WWF Generations: The Golden Age

Introduction

The world of professional wrestling was at its peak in the 1980's, business has never been any bigger prior. In this era, the popularity of professional wrestling surged through the United States and elsewhere throughout the decade. The expansion of cable television and pay-per-view, helped drive the wrestling industry into the golden era. Not only did television play its part, but so did the promoters, one man in particular... Vince McMahon. The 1980's saw professional wrestling make a huge shift from a system controlled by numerous regional companies to one, dominated by one promotion, The World Wrestling Federation.

The future of WWF and the entire professional wrestling industry came down to the success or failure of WrestleMania I. In large part, the golden era was born off of this one event. After WrestleMania was a major success, professional wrestling began to hit mainstream. Large television networks began to take wrestling shows into their weekly programming, including Saturday Night's Main Event, premiering on NBC in May of 1985. WrestleMania's popularity and rating appeal made professional wrestling a main stay. Wrestling's popularity increased throughout, in large part, thanks to Hulkamania among the children. Not only did WWF's WrestleMania prove to be a financial success, but also Jim Crockett Promotion's biggest event of the year, Starcade, proved that wrestling could be a financial success. In November 1983, Ric Flair defeated Harley Race for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship at the event. The win marked the rise of Ric Flair's golden era and was credited for showing that Starcade could be a big financial success across many locations.

It's now March 1987 and professional wrestling is officially at its highest peak. WWF is on the verge of hosting WrestleMania III, which could become the biggest WrestleMania to date. The event is scheduled to feature WWF World Heavyweight Champion, Hulk Hogan, defend the title against Andre The Giant. JCP are on the outside looking in, as they sign more star power to their brand in hopes of knocking off the WWF from the number one spot in professional wrestling. It will be an interesting time of year to see where the sport of professional wrestling will head in the years to come...

That's right everyone, WWF Generations is back! I'm restarting from the ground up this time around, and playing as head booker, Michael Hutchens, a young upstart, who Vince McMahon believes, has potential to be a star. More on that in due time. This save is going to start off similar to how my original played out but expect a whole new direction after WrestleMania. I thought of many new directions and ideas, which really motivated me to get back at this. This mod has been one of my favorites, as I have so much fun with it, so it feels really good to get back at this. Expect many updates, as I plan to keep this dynasty in high regards. Time to turn this into the start of something special.

Backstage Segment

The show kicks off with the WWF World Heavyweight Champion, Hulk Hogan. Hogan says that despite his highly anticipated WrestleMania match against Andre The Giant, he's fully focused on tonight's main event against Nikolai Volkoff.

Normal, Tag Team Match

The Rougeau Brothers Vs. The Hart Foundation (/w Jimmy Hart)

The first match of the night featured the Rougeau Brothers, facing off against the WWF World Tag Team champions, The Hart Foundation. The Rougeau Brothers used this match as an opportunity to face the champs at WrestleMania 3. However, they fell short late, as The Hart Foundation emerged victorious.

Winners: The Hart Foundation Via Pinfall

Match Time: 7:48

Post-Match Segment

Once the match was over, Bret Hart grabbed a microphone and began to talk about the tag team division. Hart claims the division is weak and lackluster, claiming there isn’t a single team in sight of a championship match. Hart demands the tag team division to step up, so that he and Jim have competition.

Backstage Segment

Footage is shown of the Honky Tonk Man and Jimmy Hart, in which HTM taunts his WrestleMania 3 opponent, Jake “The Snake” Roberts. HTM gloats about his vicious attack of Roberts on Superstars of Wrestling, back in February. HTM claims he has no regrets on his attack and that at WrestleMania, he’ll have no problem doing it again.

Normal, Singles Match

Dino Bravo Vs. Junkyard Dog

With his match against Harley Race only a few weeks away, Junkyard Dog had to remain calm and collective, as he had the "Canadian Strongman" Dino Bravo to face tonight. Bravo took it to the JYD, with some strong offensive moves. While, the JYD came back with some strong offensive moves of his own. Determined to keep his momentum going, the JYD fought back with some hard-hitting headbutts, that soon led to him delivering the Thump. The finishing move earned the JYD a big pop from the crowd as he went for the pinfall victory.

Winner: Junkyard Dog Via Pinfall

Match Time: 6:47

Hype – Piper's Pit Returns Next Week

A video is played showcasing the rivalry that has been brewing between Adrian Adonis and “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. The ending displays that Piper will be on Superstars of Wrestling next week, to address the upcoming Hair vs. Hair match at WrestleMania 3.

Backstage Segment

The audience is brought backstage to the WWF Intercontinental champion, Randy Savage and the beautiful velvet, Miss Elizabeth. Savage wasted no time in declaring that at WrestleMania, he’ll be defeating Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, to retain his prestigious championship.

Afterwards, Savage expressed disappointment in defeating George Steele via count-out on this past Saturday Night’s Main Event. Savage made sure to address that he’d get the rightful win over “the Animal” next week. Before finishing his promo, Savage offers Steamboat a front row seat to the match, so that Steamboat gets a sneak peak of what Savage is going to do to him at WrestleMania.

Normal, Singles Match

Nikolai Volkoff (/w Slick) Vs. Hulk Hogan

The Hulkster knew he was going to have his hands full tonight, as he went up against the Russian brute, Nikolai Volkoff. From the opening bell, Nikolai went all out on Hogan, delivering vicious attacks and showing his aggressive side. Perhaps, Nikolai was too aggressive, as he rarely made any pinfall attempts. It almost seemed as though Nikolai was intentionally trying to ensure Hogan doesn’t make it to WrestleMania.

At various moments in the match, Hogan was on the verge of making several comebacks, but the tactics of Slick, ensured Nikolai continued with the upper-hand. Soon, the fans rallied together in support for their world champion and afterwards, it wouldn’t be long for Hogan to “Hulk Up”. Hogan delivered his signature punches, delivered the Big Boot and finished Nikolai off with the crushing Big Leg Drop, to earn the victory.

Winner: Hulk Hogan Via Pinfall

Post-Match Segment

The crowd erupted in cheers, as Hulk Hogan began to celebrate inside the ring. Nikolai laid fallen outside the ring, as Slick began looking up the ramp, expecting someone to show.

Suddenly, Nikolai Volkoff’s tag team partner and Slick’s client, The Iron Sheik, came down the ramp and attacked Hogan. Nikolai Volkoff joined him inside the ring to make it a 2 on 1 assault but that wouldn’t keep The Hulkster down. Hogan rebounded from their attack and sent them both over the top rope with a double clothline. The fans were rooting for Hogan once more, as Slick and his men retreated up the ramp.

Show Overall Grade:

Backstage Report:

• Jacques Rougeau sustained a Medium Concussion, in which was a move delivered by Jim Neidhart. Once the show was over, the medical staff projected that it would be at least 3 months before Jacques Rougeau can return to action.

• Bret Hart & Jimmy Hart have excellent chemistry together.

• Hulk Hogan sustained a cracked tailbone. The WrestleMania 3 Headline could be in major jeopardy.

• “Bret Hart is going to be a star in my opinion, he is worth pushing hard.” - Randy Savage

WWF Wrestling Challenge #1

March 6th, 1987

From U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington, Illinois

Attendance: 8,000 (Sold-Out!)

Announce Team: Gorilla Monsoon & Lord Alfred Hayes

• The Can-Am Connection made a statement in the kick-off match of the show, as they defeated former 3-time WWF World Tag Team champions, The Wild Samoans. ©

• The young upstart, Velvet MacIntyre, picked up another win, this time pinning Leilani Kai. (C-)

• Jesse Ventura sat down with the British Bulldogs, in which they made clear intentions that they’re not finished with the Hart Foundation. The British Bulldogs stated that they won’t rest until the tag team championship is back in their grip. (B-)

• A backstage video was shown of the Junkyard Dog, in which he hyped up his WrestleMania 3 match against King Harley Race. JYD stated that his parents taught him not to bow to no men and that he’s not going to start. (B)

• In what was a display of strength, Hercules dominated Hillbilly Jim. (C+)

• A backstage video was shown of Butch Reed complaining about the lack of respect he gets from everyone, ever since he joined the WWF. He claims it’s because they are all jealous of the skillset, he possesses. One-person Reed lists specifically is Koko B. Ware. Slick states that since Koko is so jealous, he’ll have no problem facing his client, Butch Reed, next week on Wrestling Challenge. (C-)

• Gene Okerlund interviews the #1 contender for the WWF Intercontinental championship, Ricky Steamboat. Steamboat confirms he’ll be in George Steele’s corner come Superstars of Wrestling. Steamboat states that he’ll give it his all to ensure victory against Randy Savage, at WrestleMania 3. (B-)

• In what was an exciting bout, Tito Santana emerged victorious over former WWF Intercontinental champion, “Magnificent” Don Muraco. (B-)

• Not too be upstaged, “Magnificent” Don Muraco and his tag team partner, Bob Orton Jr, attacked Tito Santana. The attack goes on for a moment until “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, makes his way to the ring, wielding a 2x4 length of wood. Muraco and Orton quickly retreat, as Duggan goes to the aid of Santana. (B-)

NJPW Crowns First IWGP Heavyweight Champion

New Japan Pro-Wrestling crowned their first heavyweight champion this past Monday, when Tatsumi Fujinami defeated Masa Saito during their Japanese tour. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer gave the match a 4-star rating, while pro-wrestling illustrated gave the match an 90/100 (A) match rating.

Is “Rowdy” Roddy Piper Leaving The WWF?

Rumors are circulating fast that World Wrestling Federation superstar, ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper’s last match in the WWF is on the horizon. According to very close sources, Piper has several movies lined up for him in Hollywood and that WrestleMania 3 could be his biggest send-off. Neither the WWF or Piper himself, have confirmed these rumors as of this report. More on this story next week.

WrestleMania III Perhaps the Biggest?

It appears that Vince McMahon is going to pull all that he can to make this year’s WrestleMania the biggest one yet. The show is already set to feature a huge wrestling card and again, a huge set of celebrities such as ‘Queen of Soul’ Aretha Franklin, Alice Cooper, Bob Uecker and perhaps more. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reported that he believes that the World Wrestling Federation will be spending an estimated $5,500,000 on just the music, celebrities and the set. Once WrestleMania is in the books though, we’ll have it covered on exactly how much the WWF spent on its super card and whether or not they made a profit off the gamble.</div>

Outside the Arena, Hours Before the Show...

The show kicks-off with a video of “Rowdy” Roddy Piper entering the Hulman Center, hours before the show. Gene Okerlund soon appears and tries to get the answer of the question that has been on everybody’s mind... Is Hot Rod staying with the World Wrestling Federation or leaving for Hollywood?

Piper declined to comment and told Okerlund that he’ll just have to find out just like everybody else tonight on the Piper’s Pit.

Normal, Tag Team Match

The British Bulldogs Vs. The Dream Team (/w Johnny V)

The British Bulldogs returned to action here tonight, after Dynamite Kid sustained a neck injury awhile back. Their first match back was not an easy one though. Brutus Beefcake & Greg Valentine ensured The British Bulldogs that they were not going to receive a warm welcome. They delivered a good beating to them in the early going, but The British Bulldogs got back into the mix. Davey Boy Smith carried the match in the end with a ton of offense and delivered a running powerslam on Beefcake to earn the pinfall victory.

Winner: The British Bulldogs Via Pinfall

Match Time: 6:50

Post Match Segment

Tensions began to show between The Dream Team as Brutus Beefcake and Greg Valentine started arguing in each other's face. Johnny V eventually got in between them both and ended the dispute quickly before it got out of hands.

Backstage Segment

The audience is brought backstage, to where “Mean” Gene Okerlund is standing next to his guest, Billy Jack Haynes. Okerlund says that Haynes is against all odds facing Hercules and Okerlund wants to know, does Haynes have a game plan going into WrestleMania 3?

Haynes responds that he’s confident in defeating and that he plans on locking the Full Nelson on Hercules. Those words soon come to strike Haynes however...

Bobby Heenan shows up alongside King Kong Bundy and Billy Jack’s WrestleMania 3, Hercules.

Bundy and Hercules waste no time in attacking Haynes, as Okerlund quickly retreats. After dealing a fairly good amount of damage, Hercules applies the Full Nelson on Haynes. After several seconds, Heenan tells Hercules to release the hold. Heenan proclaims Hercules as the true master of the Full Nelson and come WrestleMania, Haynes will be on his way out of the WWF.

Brad Rheingans Vs. King Kong Bundy (/w Bobby Heenan)

From the opening bell, King Kong Bundy didn’t break a sweat over his competitor tonight. Rheingans threw his strikes to no effect, as Bundy wasn’t fazed by a single jab. Bundy soon delivered his crushing offense and finished Rheingans off with a Big Splash.

Winner: King Kong Bundy Via Pinfall

Match Time: 4:43

Piper's Pit Segment

We approach one of the most anticipated moments of the night, as Hot Rod addresses the latest buzz on his infamous pit. Roddy Piper talked about how his movie career and how he enjoyed it. Piper brought up his possible retirement after WrestleMania, but did not directly answer the rumor.

However, Piper did have a lot to say about his upcoming Hair Vs. Hair match against Adrian Adonis at WrestleMania III. Piper said that if there was one thing that was certain about the Hot Rod, it would be that he’s not leaving WrestleMania 3 bald.

Normal, Singles Match

George Steele Vs. Randy Savage (/w Miss Elizabeth)

Randy Savage was far more aggressive in this match compared to his previous match against George Steele at this past, Saturday Night Main Event. Steele attempted to fight back but Savage wasn’t having it tonight, as he made his intentions on sending Ricky Steamboat a message.

A distraction by Miss Elizabeth’s charm, paved the way for Savage to finish Steele off. After delivering a Flying Elbow Drop, Savage received the pinfall victory.

Winner: Randy Savage Via Pinfall

Match Time: 9:26

Post-Match Segment

Instead of gloating about his victory, like he usually does, Randy Savage continued his vicious attack on George Steele. The referee, Tim White, tried to stop Savage but he was instantly shoved down hard to the mat.

The #1 contender for Randy Savage’s WWF Intercontinental championship, Ricky Steamboat, came charging into the ring, delivering several strikes to Savage, until he was able to quickly escape the ring and retreat up the ramp with his velvet, Miss Elizabeth. Steamboat hurried to Steele’s aid, while he continued to keep his eyes locked on Savage. Savage didn’t look back at Steamboat, as he exited the arena, outraged.

Backstage Segment

The WWF World Heavyweight Champion, Hulk Hogan, cut a promo hyping up his WrestleMania 3 match against Andre The Giant. Hogan then switched his focus on Nikolai Volkoff and The Iron Sheik’s attempted attack on him last week. Hogan says he needs a good workout before facing Andre and that he challenges them to a handicap match next week, against himself. Hogan then runs down history about how he defeated The Iron Sheik 3 years ago to become the world champion, as the crowd erupts for him.

Hogan was able to fight off Hercules and Ordnorff for a brief second, but the numbers game played its toll. All four men began stomping Hogan down, while Bobby Heenan watched on with a satisfied smile. Before the show came to an end, Heenan warned Hogan that his championship run is near its end, as Andre WILL walk out of WrestleMania 3 as the new WWF World Heavyweight champion.

• Hulk Hogan believes Dynamite Kid is clumsy and that he should be cut loose, before he gets someone hurt.

• Roddy Piper likes what he sees in Koko B. Ware and thinks he should get a push.

• Randy Savage doesn’t think Coporal Kirchner can sell worth a damn. He thinks he has a lot left to learn.

• In a non-title match, Velvet MacIntyre continued her hot streak by defeating the WWF Womens champion, The Fabulous Moolah. The solidifies her another match, with the title on the line. ©

• Gene Okerlund reports breaking news that WWF World Heavyweight champion, Hulk Hogan, suffered a cracked tail bone. Despite this, Okerlund announces that Hogan has decided to continue on with his challenge and take on the handicap match, against doctors' orders. (B-)

• Tensions escalated between The Dream Team after their previous loss against The British Bulldogs. Due to a miscommunication between Brutus Beefcake and Greg Valentine, the Can-Am Connection pulled off a huge victory. ©

• The Dream Team began to argue once again, this time it involved each man shoving the other. While it was a bit more difficult this time around, Johnny V managed to cool his clients down. ©

• Before their match, a video played, in which it featured both men cutting a backstage promo on each other. Butch Reed claimed Koko B. Ware to be jealous of him, while Koko B. Ware claims he’s not and that he’ll showcase it. ©

• Butch Reed showcased his brutal strength against Koko B. Ware and was very close to pulling off the victory. However, a reverse by Koko B. Ware transition into a Sunset Flip, which gave Koko B. Ware the pinfall victory. (C-)

• Koko B. Ware showcased he wasn’t jealous and reached out to Butch Reed for a handshake, over the good match. Reed looked at it in disgust and seconds later, came upon attacking Koko B. Ware. Reed executed his finisher, the Gorilla Press Slam, sending an ecstatic message. ©

• WWF President, Jack Tunney, announces 20-men battle royal for WrestleMania 3. Tunney announces several participants who include, King Kong Bundy, Paul Orndorff, Jim Duggan, Butch Reed, Koko B. Ware, Bob Orton, Tito Santana & Magnificent Muraco. ©

• A recap of last week’s match between Tito Santana and “Magnificent” Don Muraco is played. The video also reveals Jim Duggan’s save on Tito Santana. ©

• The main event featured great action between “Cowboy” Bob Orton Jr and “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan. Duggan almost had the match in his hands until a distraction by Magnificent Muraco, led to Orton sealing the victory. (B-)

• The Magnificent Muraco & Bob Orton Jr decide to get revenge on Duggan by attacking him. Seconds pass, as Tito Santana is hurrying to the ring. He fights both men, as he holds on from the 2 on 1 attack. Duggan soon recovers, as he and Tito send Orton and Muraco packing. (B-)

• The Fabulous Moolah was furious over losing to Velvet MacIntyre.

• Judy Martin sustained a floating knee cap and will have to take time off for the injury to heal.

Journal Entry #1 - Living the Dream

Journal Entry #1 – Living the Dream

Saturday, March 14th 1987

Disbelief... Was the only word that ran through my head, as I still could not believe my dream was now a reality. Imagine being a 21-year-old and being hand selected by Vince McMahon himself, to choose you as the head booker of perhaps the biggest wrestling promotion in the world. Crazy right? I know. You see a year ago, I was just enrolling into the University of Michigan and now suddenly, I’m catching myself seated in my own professional desk. It all started a year ago, when I saw in the newspaper that the WWF was seeking a young male, with knowledge and a natural talent for the company. Of course, the WWF didn’t publicly state they were looking for a member of the booking team, because in the public eye, they want you to believe in their characters and stories. What many don’t know is what goes on behind the scenes.

Anyways, the WWF wanted the applicant to write out a wrestling storyline, whether it was fictional or not, it just had to be a story you created. I decided to apply and wrote out a storyline for Harley Race and Hulk Hogan. Once my application was submitted, I waited. A year went by until a Monday evening, when I received a call by a WWF representative. A flight was booked for me, as I was told that I have been chosen to meet the owner himself, Vince McMahon. We had a meeting in which we discussed a lot of things, but the meeting wasn’t one on one. A few veterans of the business were present but other than that, I can’t discuss any more about it. All in all, we discussed the future of the business, a possible New Japan Pro-Wrestling agreement, developmental territory and why McMahon selected me as the with potential. Of course, I’ll go into that more in-depth at a later time.

As of now, it’s all about living the dream as we approach the biggest wrestling event, WrestleMania III. The card is practically set in stone but I was given the rights to change a few things like end the Hillbilly Jim and King Kong Bundy storyline. I also overviewed the Pay-Per-Appearance contracts.

Barry Orton - Released: Terminating anyone is never good but I felt like it had to be done with Barry as he is toxic to the locker room. Bob Orton wasn’t too pleased but it had to be done.

The Midgets – Released: This one was personally not knowing what to do with them besides put them in pointless segments.

Bob Holly – Signed: Bob Holly is entering his 1st year in the company and so I thought I’d give him an opportunity. I set out with a 3-month deal for him to put over the other guys. While he’ll be losing, he’ll be earning experience, to hopefully land him a job somewhere else.

Eric Embry – Signed: Unlike Bob, whose is entering his first year, Eric Embry has 9 years of experience and is only 28 years old. There is talent in the kid and I want to see how he fares in some pre-show matches before we take the next step.

Ivan Putski – Released: This one I debated with for a few days after the first Superstars of Wrestling this month. Originally, I was going to keep Putski and use him after he recovered from his injuries but ultimately, thought it was best to let him go.

We made two huge signings though that both Vince and I believe will be huge stars in the future of this company. We’re making steps into the developmental company of ours, which may take a while before it’s accomplished. We’ll be debuting one of the new signees in a week or two and we’ll see where it goes.

A few tasks were handed to me by Vince himself, in which he said he expects every one of them to be achieved.

Goal #1 – Vince doesn’t want our popularity decreasing from the time I take control to a full year from now. It’s his assessment on whether I can exceed expectations.

Goal #2 – After 2 years, Vince EXPECTS to remain as the #1 wrestling company in the world. I’ll certainly do my best to guarantee that.

Goal #3 – Vince and Tom Zenk have simmering tensions. However, Vince believes in Zenk’s tag team partner, Rick Martel. He wants to see Martel succeeding in the company. We’ll make it happen.

Goal #4 – Another men Vince thinks highly of is the 31-year-old, Jim Duggan. He wants Duggan to maintain his moderate fan base, while also hoping his fan base increases.

Goal #5 – Vince informed me that the signings I cannot make involve Luchadors and Cruserweights. McMahon wants brawlers and wrestlers. I have to also report to him about any contract being offered, before a deal is finalized.

Half-way through the month and it’s so far been one of the most surreal rides ever. Every morning, I look forward to another day, as I continue living the dream.

Savage states it clearly that at WrestleMania, he’s going to slay the dragon. The Heenan Family began to stomp down Hogan, as Heenan reminded Hogan that he is no match against The Heenan Family. Heenan then announced that next week, Andre The Giant will be present on Superstars of Wrestling. Heenan informs Hogan that unless he’s willing to hand Andre the title next week, he’s better off staying at home. Duggan & Santana talk about wanting a match but before they can issue a challenge, they are attacked from behind. Orton & Muraco tell Duggan and Santana that they’ll see them at the battle royal. Before the show came on the air, many wondered whether the WWF World Heavyweight champion, Hulk Hogan, would be on this week’s Superstar of Wrestling, considering the champion was injured and that Andre The Giant is here tonight. Hogan proved he doesn’t back down, no matter the odds against him, as he cuts a promo telling Andre The Giant and Bobby Heenan that he’ll see him inside that ring TONIGHT!

WWF newcomer, “Ravishing” Rick Rude made his way down to the ring, wearing a luxurious robe, as he was scheduled for his WWF debut match. Once inside the ring, Rude spoke on the microphone, as he grabbed the attention of the ladies in attendance. Rude informed them that they're about to see most “Ravishing” body in existence.

Rude took off his robe, showcasing his tremendous shape and muscle, as the lights went out in the arena and a spotlight shined on Rude in the middle of the ring.

Rude demonstrated early-on, that he’ll take any step necessary to achieve victory. Rude controlled the pace for most of the match and it wouldn’t take long for Rude to achieve his first victory in the WWF.

As Jake “The Snake” Roberts made his entrance to the ring for the upcoming tag team match, a video was played of Roberts, in which he talked about Honky Tonk Man. Roberts says that tonight, he’s giving all the fans here a sneak peek at what He and Damian are going to do to HTM at WrestleMania.

Roberts says that tonight’s DDT is going to feature a nice touch of venom, as Roberts ensures he’s ready to get his revenge as early as possible.

Tonight’s Superstars of Wrestling featured two big main events, with this being the first of them. With WrestleMania approaching, these 4 men took it out against each other, as they give fans a preview of what is to come this Sunday. JYD and Race battled among each other, intensifying their rivalry. However, the main focus was between Jake Roberts and HTM.

Roberts was making his in-ring return tonight, as he unloaded on HTM the moment he received the chance. The two were tagged in half-way through the match and they were the ones to close out. HTM almost broke away with victory but Roberts would pull off a sneaky and venomous DDT to HTM, which then gave Roberts the win.

As the competitors for the main event of the night, a video package was played in which the WWF Intercontinental champion, Randy Savage, taunted Ricky Steamboat. Savage says the clock is ticking leading to WrestleMania 3, where the “Macho Man” Randy Savage will the slay Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat. Savage states that when the dust settles, the “Macho Man” will still go down as the greatest reigning WWF Intercontinental champion.

In what was a huge main event match, all 6 competitors battled it out viciously, as neither team could break away with momentum. Ricky Steamboat and Randy Savage had a classic clash near the end of the match. The British Bulldogs and The Hart Foundation took their battle up the ramp, giving more focus towards Steamboat and Savage.

Both men threw punches as though the title was on the line, with neither man looking to back down. With the match all over the place at this point, the referee made the call to pronounce this match as a draw. However, that didn’t stop these 2 teams from fighting each other. The battle escalated to the point where WWF crew members had to break up the brawls taking place.

Winners: Draw

Now was the moment everyone was waiting for, as the 8th Wonder of the World, Andre The Giant, made his way to the ring, accompanied by Bobby “The Brain” Heenan. Once inside the ring, Heenan took over on the microphone and began to make comparisons between Andre The Giant and Hulk Hogan.

Heenan lists all of the disadvantages of Hogan matched up against Andre but never once made any mentions of advantages that Hogan may have. Heenan states that the WWF World Heavyweight Championship will soon be in Andre’s grip and that The Family will have achieved their ultimate goal... Forever killing Hulkamania.

“Real American” begins to play throughout the arena, as the crowd erupts in cheers as the WWF World Champ, Hulk Hogan begins making his way to the ring. Hogan approaches Andre face to face, completely ignoring the presence of Bobby Heenan. The two rivals had a tense stare down before their highly anticipated match. Hogan finally began to speak, in which he talked about his and Andre’s past friendship.

Hogan says he’s always looked to Andre as his best friend and that one of the main reasons why Hogan is the champion is because he pushed himself because of Andre. Hogan states that he would never put his hands on his best friends but Andre crossed that line when he joined up with Bobby “The Weasel” Heenan.

Hogan added that there was no going back now and that come this Sunday, Andre’s going to realize the huge mistake he made by turning his back on his friends. Andre’s response was dead silence, as he looked down upon Hogan for a few seconds. Afterwards, Andre grabbed Hogan by the shirt and declared that he seeks nothing more than the WWF World Heavyweight championship.

Andre tore Hogan’s shirt off, which prompted Hogan to begin dishing out punches. Andre soon delivered punches of his own and trapped Hogan in the corner of the turnbuckle. Andre began dishing out punishment, as he attacked Hogan’s ribs and injured tail bone. The segment ended with Andre The Giant standing over Hogan while holding the WWF World Heavyweight championship, painting a scene that we could very well see come this Sunday at WrestleMania 3.

• Rick Rude delivered under expectations in his WWF debut, as he showed up wasted on drugs. It really affected his performance and also as a result, gave management second thoughts on a big-time push.

• Junkyard Dog wrestled wasted and Harley Race wasn’t too pleased about the incidence. This causes heat between both men, just days before their WrestleMania match.

• In a backstage segment, “Ravishing” Rick Rude admires his looks again while calling out the male audience, claiming them to be fat and out of shape. ©

• After being attacked last week by Magnificent Muraco & Bob Orton, Tito Santana & Jim Duggan participated in another interview with Jesse Ventura. The duo talked about the WrestleMania 3 battle royal and how they look forward to getting their hands on Muraco & Orton. (B-)

The audience is then brought to a camera shot of the World Wrestling Federation Owner, Vince McMahon. McMahon welcomes everyone to WrestleMania 3, as he introduces tonight’s guest to play “America The Beautiful” she’s known as the “Queen of Soul”, Aretha Franklin.

Aretha Franklin appears at the top of the ramp, as she performs “America The Beautiful”. After an outstanding performance, the sold-out crowd gives Franklin an enormous applaud. The opening match of tonight’s show kicked off in a huge battle royal, as 20-men competed, in hopes of earning either a WWF Intercontinental or World Heavyweight Championship match. While others in this match were focused on going after their rivals. Once the opening bell rung, all the participants in the match began to trade fists.

The first elimination doesn’t take long to come, once the team work of King Kong Bundy and Paul Orndorff come into play to eliminate Lanny Poffo & George Steele. Throughout the continuation of the match, Bundy and Orndorff use their teamwork to establish their dominance in the match.

The third elimination of the match comes by the hands of the “Ravishing" Rick Rude, who played up a teamwork with Eric Embry before betraying him and tossing him over the ropes. Rude certainly establish himself further in the WWF after making a strong appearance tonight.

The rivalry between Butch Reed and Koko B. Ware escalated further in this match, as Reed certainly wasn’t over the loss, he took to B. Ware. He stayed focused on eliminating B. Ware from the start of the match. Eventually, a strong clothline from Reed was enough to send B. Ware over the top rope.

Another elimination happened seconds later, when the Can-Am Connection use their experience as team to eliminate Kamala.

Rick Martel and Tom Zenk used a lot to get the big men out that is Kamala, which only helped to the advantage of Nikolai Volkoff and The Iron Sheik. The tag duo was able to defeat the Can-Am Connection this past Friday on Wrestling Challenge. While it was an attempt to eliminate Martel and Zenk, the attack backfired into Voloff and Sheik getting eliminated instead.

As the ring became emptier, teamwork began to get less steady, unlike Bundy and Orndorff, who know their objective, the Dream Team are still trying to figure out their own. They worked like a team in this one but recent tensions between the two brought up the topic on whether they can trust each other. It seemed that way all throughout the match until Valentine suddenly betrays his tag team partner, Brutus Beefcake, eliminating him. The tension became clear that this wasn’t the end and that more would come after WrestleMania.

Another story was continuing to develop, as Bob Orton and Magnificent Muraco continue to take their fight to Jim Duggan and Tito Santana. The fight among them lasted most of the match with neither team breaking away. However, Duggan and Santana soon built the momentum to eliminate both Muraco and Orton. This created a huge cheer from the crowd.

The Can-Am Connection continued their hot momentum, as they worked together to eliminate Dino Bravo.

However, the tag team’s momentum came to an abrupt ending as Bundy and Orndorff eliminated the exhausted duo.

Jim Duggan and Tito Santana were continuing to establish themselves as a strong potential tag team, as they used great teamwork to eliminate “The Natural” Butch Reed. Greg Valentine attempted to send Santana over the ropes until Duggan came to his aid, eliminating Valentine in the process.

The tag team duo of King Kong Bundy and Paul Orndorff were now approaching Rick Rude. Before they could get their hands on Rude, Rude voluntary eliminated himself, by stepping over the rope and exiting the ring. The loss didn’t seem to bother Rude however, as he remained fascinated by his body even on his way up the ramp.

This left 4 men left, with two alliances formed inside the ring. Duggan and Santana were in trouble here, as Bundy and Orndorff went on the attack. Duggan and Santana used whatever strength they had and managed to eliminate Orndorff but that soon cost them, as Bundy appeared behind the duo, sending them both over the top ropes. Afterwards, King Kong Bundy was the last men in the ring and was pronounced the winner of the 20-Men Battle Royal match.

After a huge opening match to kick-off the show, fans were now presented with to the backstage, as 1964 World Series champion, “Mr. Baseball” Bob Uecker interviews the WWF World Heavyweight champion, Hulk Hogan. Hogan states that tonight’s match may be the most difficult challenge he has ever faced. While that may be the case, Hogan promised fans that he’s going to overcome Andre The Giant and continue to let Hulkamania run on, believe it brother!

Dubbed “The Full Nelson Challenge” this match featured both men trying to lock in the Full Nelson, on the biggest stage. Haynes held his own in the opening minutes, as he had Hercules dazed by a couple of Haynes’ punches. Hercules wouldn’t be taken lightly though, as he quickly bounced back and began to dominate with his massive strength.

Haynes was now on the receiving end of some hard-hitting attacks by Hercules, as he continued to run the match now at this point. Hercules would then soon lock in the Full Nelson lock, applying it with great strength, Haynes had no choice but to say he gives up.

The British Bulldogs Vs. The Hart Foundation

The first hype video of the night begins with the WWF World Tag Team Championship feud between the former champions, the British Bulldogs and the current champions, the Hart Foundation.

This rivalry goes back a few years, when the British Bulldogs were just making their arrival in the WWF. Over time, it escalated and this past January, the Hart Foundation managed to defeat the British Bulldogs thanks to “Evil Referee” Danny Davis help. In the weeks building up to WrestleMania, the match was made official and on top of that, Davis was banned from the match. The British Bulldogs now have a chance to recapture their titles back. The Hart Foundation have made it clear that they will achieve victory with or without Danny Davis’ help. The stage is now set for these two teams to do battle, in which one team will walk out with the gold.

In the buildup of a couple of weeks, the tension between these two teams really ignited. Now both teams are coming into this match it with something to prove over the other. Both have traded words but the way to prove which team was speaking the truth was to be found inside the ring. Dynamite Kid and Bret Hart kicked things off, fighting in a technical style, appealing to “wrestling” fans. When neither man could break win, tags were made, which gave fuel to the fire as big men Davey Boy Smith and Jim Neidhart clashed.

The match caught the fans attention in awe, as they watched a very entertaining match take place between these two teams, who go all the way back to Stampede Wrestling. The match entered its final minutes, as Kid and Hart fought to the nail to out maneuver each other. Neidhart tried intervening, which caused Smith to fight him outside the ring. Kid caught a glimpse of the action outside, which distracted him for a brief second for Hart to get a surprise roll up. The referee counted the pin and 3 seconds later, the Hart Foundation were the winners and still reigning champions.

Savage talks about how the time is ticking for Steamboat’s biggest loss of his career. Savage proclaims himself to be the greatest WWF Intercontinental champion and that he doesn’t plan to lose tonight or anytime soon.

Adrian Adonis Vs. “Rowdy” Roddy Piper

The audience is now presented to a hype video of the upcoming Hair vs Hair match between Adrian Adonis and “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. While the match has a huge stipulation, the main interest in this one could perhaps be the final match of Roddy Piper’s career.

The rivalry between these two men began when Roddy Piper returned to the WWF after a brief hiatus, in which he wasn’t pleased about Adrian Adonis replacing Piper’s Pit with his own, The Flower Shop. Weeks followed as Piper crashed Adonis’ set and it eventually led to a Hair vs Hair match. Piper then brought back Piper’s Pit on an episode of Superstars of Wrestling, promising he wouldn’t be leaving WrestleMania bald. Adonis guarantees that he will. Whoever it is, one thing is for certain, someone will be leaving tonight bald.

One of the most highly anticipated matches of the night came upon the viewers, as they witnessed what could perhaps be “Rowdy” Roddy Piper’s last match in the WWF. Not to mention, both men’s hair was also on the line between these two men.

The match began with Adonis leading the way with some tough offense but Piper would soon manage to counter. The counter paved the way for Piper to carry the match but his momentum was soon interrupted by Jimmy Hart, who strikes Piper in the head with his microphone. The match carried on as the referee didn’t catch a glimpse, as he was dealing with Adonis. Adrian knew the distraction paved off as he went for the pin. The referee counted to two in a half, before declaring Piper kicked out.

Piper would soon rebound and before anyone knew it, Piper locked in the Sleeper Hold, as Adonis struggled to get out of the hold. Hart began to get frantic at ringside as he watched his client dazing and falling asleep. The referee counted to 5 for a response from Adonis, the referee then declared Adonis unresponsive and raised Piper’s hand in victory.

Once the match had ended, the referee handed Roddy Piper a pair of scissors, as Piper would then approach Adonis, who was still asleep from the Sleeper Hold. Piper began clipping away, which then prompted Hart entering the ring and trying to stop Piper. Piper smirked at Hart’s attempt and then he chased him down, trying to cut his hair too. The two men ran around the ring, before going up the ramp, leaving the scene. A final shot of Adrian Adonis was shown, in which he began to wake up with half of his hair clipped off. Adonis soon left the ring enraged.

The audience is brought backstage with Bob Uecker interviewing his next guest, Andre The Giant, as his match against Hulk Hogan gets closer. Uecker keeps his distance, as he looks at Andre with a slight bit of fear in his eyes. Heenan talks mostly for Andre, in which he says that Andre will destroy Hulkamania and he’ll prove to the world why he’s the 8th Wonder of the World. Before the segment comes to an end, Andre speaks that tonight, he’ll be the new WWF World Heavyweight champion.

While this match didn’t have the biggest hype of the night, it certainly had the rivalry heat and that helped elevate this match. Both men exchanged fists once the opening bell rung, with neither man breaking away with offense in the opening minutes. As the match continued to stay balanced, with both men showcasing their skillet. JYD began to heat up late in the match, as the fans began to rally behind the fan-favorite, who was receiving a huge reaction by the crowd.

JYD began to deliver his signature headbutts, which was clearly impacting Race. However, knowing he was in trouble, the wrestling veteran quickly rolled out of the ring, escaping the attack. JYD chased Race around the ring, once they entered the ring, Race took the offense.

JYD attempted one last comeback inside the ring, but a reversal by Race caused the attempt to fail, which in return, gave Race the chance to deliver his finishing, Piledriver. Race then covered JYD to earn the pinfall victory.

After winning the match, King Harley Race demanded Junkyard Dog to fulfill his obligations and bow down to the king, Harley Race. JYD seemed to resist for a few seconds, as Race continued to demand JYD to bow down to him. Eventually, JYD fulfilled his obligation and bowed down to Race but as JYD came up, he delivered several punches to Race. The crowd once again erupted in cheers for the JYD, as he delivered the Thump!

Honky Tonk Man Vs. Jake Roberts

A hype video begins for the next feud of the night, Honky Tonk Man versus Jake Roberts. The feud began between the two awhile back and quickly escalated when the Honky Tonk Man delivered a guitar to Roberts on the Snake’s Pit. The guitar shot injured Roberts and had him on the shelf for some time. Now with Roberts back 100%, he plans to get retribution, while the Honky Tonk Man looks to deliver another hit here in Detroit, Michigan.

This match featured a ton of heat and fans were highly supportive of Jake Roberts, as he faced off against the Honky Tonk Man, who was heavily booed. The match kicked with a feeling out process between both men. Afterwards, the momentum would swing back and forth between both men, with neither breaking wind.

Jimmy Hart attempted to get involved, like he has in most of the matches he’s been in tonight, but this time it quickly backfired. Roberts delivered a dropkick to HTM, which led to him bumping into his manager, Jimmy Hart. This then led to Roberts delivering the DDT to the dazed HTM, leading to the pinfall victory.

Jake Roberts may have won the match but he displayed an urge to get more out of this moment then by just earning a win. Roberts grabbed Honky Tonk Man’s guitar and positioned himself, getting ready to swing as HTM slowly stood up.

The strike looked as though it was just minutes away too until HTM’s manager, Jimmy Hart, got in the way by pulling the guitar away from Roberts. The struggle over the guitar went on between the two, as HTM was now on the verge of making his move.

Suddenly, "He's Back (The Man Behind the Mask)" begins to play through the stadium, as Detroit's own, Alice Cooper made his arrival here in the Silverdome, wearing a Jason Voorhees hockey mask. The crowd erupted with cheers as the rock star made his way down the ramp. Cooper didn't come alone though, as he walked down the ramp with an expensive rock n roll guitar.

Cooper took off the mask and got on the apron, insisting Roberts take the guitar and smash HTM in the head with it. Jake takes the guitar and as he turns around, HTM tries to attack Roberts. Roberts quickly dodges the attack and instead of using the guitar, delivers a second DDT. Roberts then insists that Cooper hits HTM in the head, as he lifts him up. Cooper doesn't hesitate as he smashes the guitar into HTM's head. The crowd eats up the moment, as Alice Cooper and Jake Roberts celebrate together inside the ring.

The semi-main event was now just moments away, as the hype video for the WWF Intercontinental Championship match began to play. The video showcased the beginning of the feud which went back to November 1986. A vicious attack by Randy Savage placed Ricky Steamboat on the shelf, as Steamboat suffered a crushed larynx. Steamboat eventual return brought fire back to the feud, as the two both look set to settle the score. Both men want to walk out as the WWF Intercontinental champion, but only will... The sold-out crowd here in Detroit, Michigan showed they had a whole lot of energy as they gave both Steamboat and Savage huge reactions. The match was as tense as could be, as Jesse Ventura talked about how this match wasn’t just personal, it was also for the WWF Intercontinental championship. Monsoon informed viewers that the title cannot change hands to count-out or disqualification.

The bell rung and both competitors began to circle one another, as they looked to get an opening. Eventually, Steamboat went for the first move as he attempted to bring Savage down with a leg sweep. Savage countered quickly and delivered a few punches which then followed by a double axe handle. The offense from this point went back and forth, making it difficult to know who really was going to walk out as champion. The action even spilled to the outside, in which Steamboat made a tremendous comeback.

Now late in the match, every move began to become more important by the minute. Steamboat had the upper-hand, after making a strong comeback. A few strikes followed by a dropkick, gave Steamboat the opening to finish Savage off. Steamboat headed to the top of the turnbuckle, as he prepared himself to deliver the Flying Karate Chop.

Once Steamboat took off, Savage quickly moved out of the way, avoiding the attacking and sending Steamboat down with an atomic drop. Savage then replicated Steamboat by going to the top turnbuckle and soon delivered his finishing, Flying Elbow Drop.

The referee counted to 3 and then declared Randy Savage the winner, despite Steamboat’s late break out attempt. Savage hurried out of the ring with his WWF Intercontinental championship still intact. Steamboat looked on in disbelief, as he stood in the ring, upset over capturing his moment.

After an unbelievable match, the world was now on the verge of witnessing the most highly anticipated match of the night, Andre the Giant versus Hulk Hogan. In what used to be friendship between both men, has now turned into a rivalry. It all began when Hulk Hogan earned a huge trophy for his astonishing reign as WWF World Heavyweight Champion on a past episode of Piper’s Pit. The following week on Piper’s Pit, Andre The Giant was awarded a smaller trophy compared to Hogan’s for his recognition of being “the only undefeated wrestler in wrestling history”.

A confrontation between the two went down on February 7th, with another episode of Piper’s Pit. Bobby Heenan claimed Hogan used Andre as his “friend” so that Andre would never challenge him. Hogan on the other hand disagrees, as he says Heenan is only brainwashing Andre so that he can get whatever he wants and desires. Andre then challenged Hogan to a match at WrestleMania 3, in which Hogan neither accepted or denied, as he continued to plea with Andre. The confrontation between the two ended in shock, as Andre ripped off the t-shirt and crucifix from Hogan, with the crucifix scratching Hogan's chest, causing him to bleed.

On a later edition of Piper’s Pit, Hogan accepted Andre’s challenge and vowed to come out of the match victorious. Andre and Hogan then participated in a 20-men battle royal on the February 21st, edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event XI, which aired March 14th. Neither man did get the victory, however, Andre did out show Hogan, by eliminating him from the match. The following weeks led to Hogan being beaten and battered by the hands of the Heenan Family.

One final confrontation happened between Andre and Hogan on the March 26th, edition of Superstars of Wrestling. Hogan promised to make Andre realize his mistakes and that there was no going back now. Andre grabbed Hogan by the shirt and made clear that he wants nothing more than the WWF World Heavyweight championship. A brawl between the two began, once Andre started to rip Hogan’s shirt, as Hogan retaliated in strikes. The brawl eventually ended with Andre The Giant getting the best over the injured WWF World Champion. Andre then stood over Hogan, with the WWF World Heavyweight championship, giving fans an image that could very well happen tonight.

Tonight, the WWF World Heavyweight champion, Hulk Hogan, will be coming into this match with a legitimate tail bone injury. Hogan has been known to overcome the odds and obstacles but will he be capable of walking out of tonight as victorious?

The champion’s opponent tonight, is a man who is not only known as the “8th Wonder of the World” but he’s also “the only undefeated wrestler in wrestling history” he’s Andre The Giant. This big man is feared by many and now looks to do whatever it takes to become the new WWF World Heavyweight champion. Andre wants recognition, Andre wants it to be known that he’s THE biggest and strongest wrestler, not Hulk Hogan. Will Andre the Giant end Hulk Hogan’s 3-year run with the world title or will Hogan defeat the undefeated man that is Andre?...

The match that everyone has been waiting for has now started, as the bell rung, both men approached each other with a stare down. The crowd were heating the moment up, giving the moment a good minute, before Andre threw the first strike. Andre delivered Hogan with several chops, that were known to be vicious by their sound. Hogan retaliated with punches, trying to avoid the corner that Andre was setting him up for.

To no success, Hogan was now trapped in the corner of the turnbuckles, as Andre delivered devastating chops to Hogan’s chest. Andre began to target Hogan’s tailbone, in which seemed to legitimately hurt Hogan. Despite what it may have seemed, both men played the script well and after suffering devastating pain, Hogan soon made his comeback. Hogan began to “Hulk Up” and afterwards, did his whole counter-punch sequence, that led to a Big Boot. Afterwards, Hogan delivered the Big Leg Drop.

Hogan was just a second away from retaining the WWF World Heavyweight championship until Bobby Heean got involved to save Andre from being defeated. Heenan grabbed the referee’s attention and pointed out Andre’s hand on the ropes. The referee seen it and declared it a rope-break.

Hogan used a lot to put Andre down, as he now had to think of another way to defeat the giant. Andre began his attack again and then placed Hogan in a Sleeper Hold. Andre was now well on his way to victory as Hogan began to be unconscious. The referee than began his count to 5, in which if Hogan doesn’t respond, Andre becomes the winner.

Suddenly, to the shock of everyone in the arena, including Andre the Giant and Bobby Heean, Hogan raises his fist high in the air. Caught off guard by the shock that Hogan is still responsive, Andre lets his strength on the hold loosen, giving Hogan clear opportunity of another comeback.

Hogan soon breaks out of the Sleeper Hold, then delivers several punches to Andre’s head before attempting something nobody expected...

The sold-out crowd here erupted in cheers, as they could not believe Hulk Hogan body slammed Andre the Giant, who is 500+ lbs. Hogan kneeled down for a second to catch his breath and energy, before finishing off Andre with a Big Leg Drop.

The crowd erupted in cheers once more, as all of the Hulkamaniacs in attendance were in loud support for their superstar. Hogan exhausted as ever, was soon on his feet and standing tall inside the ring as he held up the WWF World Heavyweight championship. Andre The Giant and Bobby Heenan were on their way to the back, as they suffered defeat tonight. Hogan continued to celebrate in the ring as his theme “Real American” continued to play.

As the celebration continued, the announce team thanked the fans watching from home and told them about how they witnessed history tonight that will never be forgotten. After talking about the huge main event and the overall spectacle event, they urge viewers to tune into Superstars to find out the aftermath quickly, before wishing them a good night and then closing off.

Backstage Report:

• Both Rick Rude and The Iron Sheik showed up to WrestleMania wasted on drugs. As of right now, no action has been taken.

• Reports indicate that the match between Andre and Hogan could have gone on better if it had not been to Hogan's tailbone injury. In which, many were very surprised when Hogan body slammed Andre down.

• Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is already praising Savage versus Steamboat as an "instant classic", in which he believes the match stole the show. Hard to argue with that one.

Thanks everyone for the predictions! I was very overwhelmed by how many predicted, which was awesome. Apologize for the late post, I've been quite hooked to Red Dead Redemption 2 lately, which has taken much of the free time I get.
