WWF 1993 - A Tribute To Wrestlecrap

Recommended Posts

As you can tell my name, I am a huge fan of wrestlecrap and all that is bad in wrestling (for me it's half the fun) so I decided to do a 1993 diary (using TCP's awesome scenario) in which I attempt to use some of the worst superstars and gimmicks ever whilst at the same time improving the situation of the WWF. The story is that in a last attempt to pull ratings up, Vince McMahon calls in a favour from a Television company executive and has earnt a new show called Friday Night Smackdown on a 3month contract. In addition to this, the brand split is introduced to WWF with some superstars only allowed to appear on Raw and others only allowed to appear on Smackdown. However, the onscreen story is that Jack Tunney' WWF are breaking all known boundaries of success and the network almost begged them to take a new show. Tunney also appointed two general managers of each brand and he would see over the product as a whole. On Raw he appointed Sgt. Slaughter and on Smackdown he appointed The Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase. On a one off special on a Sunday night before the brand split was due to start, the General Managers picked 10 superstars each for their shows with the rest being decided by a lottery. Tunney said a game of rock, paper, scissors would decide who would go first. However, as Dibiase had tried to bribe Tunney for first pick, Slaughter would get the first draft. The First Pick Slaughter said he liked to keep his friends close but his enemies closer and named his first pick as WWF Champion Yokozuna Dibiase said that he was picking the most dominant superstar the federation has ever seen - The Undertaker Second Pick Slaughter spoke of his love of the USA and said that he would feel unamerican if he did not pick Lex Luger Dibiase laughed off the pick calling him a 'WBF reject' and said that he was proud to introduce to Smackdown the future of the WWF and the Intercontinental Champion Shawn Michaels Third Pick Slaughter said that although he bled red, white and blue blood, he also has a great respect for all things Canadian and picked Bret Hart Dibiase picked a man who he said he couldn't wait to place in all sorts of cruel matches - Macho Man Randy Savage Fourth Pick Slaughter picked the "greater" of the All American Steiner Brothers, Scott Steiner Dibiase said that he was picking the "greater" of the All American Steiner Brothers, Rick Steiner, thus splitting up the tag team champions. Fifth Pick Slaughter said on a recent trip to Finland he saw a man named Ludvig Borga in action and afterwards had a chance to speak to him. Slaughter said that Borga was Finnish in heritage, but American in spirit and picked him as his fifth pick Dibiase said that his fifth pick was a true legend - Jerry Lawler Sixth Pick Slaughter said that in all his years in the business he's never seen anything like Giant Gonzales in all his years in wrestling and whilst they don't see eye to eye backstage, he had to have him on Raw Dibiase said if there's one thing he likes, it's a bad guy and that's why he picked Razor Ramon Seventh Pick Slaughter said he was picking the perfect pick - Mr Perfect. Dibiase said that he didn't think much to "dancing around looking like a half cooked chicken" but he was picking the undefeated Tatanka Eighth Pick Slaughter said that the strength of Crush was unbelievable and with the right teaching he could be a force to be reckoned with and picked him Dibiase picked Diesel, a man who he said was even stronger than that "horrible purple and yellow thing" Crush and picked him Ninth Pick Slaughter picked a man who, although he doesn't get along with, he knew he could always rely on to give 100% in the ring - Bam Bam Bigelow Dibiase said that he was picking Mabel of Men On A Mission who he said he would groom for future greatness Tenth Pick Slaughter said as his final pick he would take his assistant Hacksaw Jim Duggan Dibiase said that's the first sensible pick he's made all day and picked his assistant Irwin R. Schyster

The Samoan Savages - Faction featuring Yokozuna, Fatu, Samu, Haku, The Barbarian and Afa Alaska - John Tenta plays the wild man from, you guessed it, Alaska. He wears a generic black mask but other than that he plays a similar character to his famous Earthquake. Splash Mountain - Big man tag combo pairing Alaska and Kamala on the Raw brand. For their finisher they run into and sandwich the opposition in a move known as the Splash Mountain. Crime and Punishment - Tag team featuring Nailz and Repo Man Katie Vick - Teenage cheerleader played by Trish Stratus who has a crush on The Undertaker. You have no idea how low I am prepared to stoop in this diary The Ultimate Warlord - The Warlord is given a gimmick that is an exact replica of the Ultimate Warrior and a main event push. Seriously The A-B-C Boy - Jerry Lynn gets a stupid gimmick and a pair of gharish tights to team with The 1-2-3 Kid, Sean Waltman The Raw Youth - The team of Jerry Lynn and Sean Waltman named the Raw Youth despite being on Smackdown Rappin' Rodney - Yokozuna reveals he isn't really Japanese and goes back to his 'roots' as a Samoan rapper. Benoit - Chris Benoit plays an ambiguously gay French Canadian lumberjack on Smackdown Ahmed - Tony Norris/Ahmed Johnson plays President Bob Backlund's Secretary of Defence on Smackdown Dimitri Malenkov - Dean Malenko is a hard as nails, wrestling machine with Russian Mafia connections. A poor gimmick by all accounts but it lets him wrestle to his highest standard without having to open his mouth. Also, keep in mind that an evil Russian gimmick is somewhat controversial in the early 90s after the end of the Cold War The Butlers - The Genius dumps the Beverley Brothers and adopts The Butlers as his new team. They comprise Virgil and Koko B.Ware, now known as Butler B.Ware and they are Ted Dibiase's butlers in a borderline racist gimmick The Million Dollar Corporation - Heel faction on Smackdown led by General Manager Ted Dibiase. It features himself, IRS, Razor Ramon, The Butlers and The Genius. They are also linked to the Legion of Doom who are hired guns willing to act for the highest bidder, but LOD are not officially in the faction The Giants - Mr. Fuji is given Giant Gonzales' contract by Harvey Whippleman and decides to team Gonzales up with the equally untalented Giant Silva. However, the two giants hate eachother due to their wars in the Amazon rainforest and are unable to team together effectively. Ricky - Ricky Morton is renamed but is the exact same character Robbie - Robert Gibson is given a new name to make him sound 'cooler'/QUOTE]

Great diary idea, I love the Wrestlecrap website and I have a soft spot for many of the awful gimmicks we have seen in wrestling over the years, so I am really looking forward to reading what your vision of 1993 WWF is going to result in.

Raw Results From Boston, MA The Show kicked off with the familiar pan pipes as Yokozuna made his way to ring accompanied by Mr. Fuji and also The Headshrinkers, Afa, Giant Gonzales and Harvey Whippleman. They got in the ring and announced they would now be known as The Samoan Savages collectively. Yokozuna told Slaughter to get out here and name the number one contender for Summerslam. Slaughter did indeed comeout and said that he had a difficult decision when naming the new number one contender. He debated over naming Bret Hart, but decided against it as he has had several shots already, he also thought of Lex Luger but decided he could wait his turn. So that left one man, a man who has never had a shot at the WWF Title on Pay Per View, Sgt. Slaughter introduced the number one contender to the WWF Title - Mr . Perfect. Yokozuna and his cronies had a huge laugh at this announcement saying he was not afraid of Mr. Perfect. Yoko said Perfect didn't deserve it and that he had to earn his shot by defeating Giant Gonzales, Fatu and Samu in the coming weeks before he would face him for the title. Slaughter agreed this was fair as he was confident Perfect could overcome these challengers. However, he told Yokozuna not to be so confident that he would still be the world champion by Summerslam. Yokozuna looked worried as the show went to commercial. After the break, Scott Steiner was shown in Sgt. Slaughter's office (complete with camoflauge wallpaper). Steiner said that Slaughter must do everything in his power to bring Rick Steiner to Raw to reunite the Tag Team Champions. Slaughter said he was doing his best to lure Rick, but Jack Tunney was due to make an announcement about the WWF Tag Team Titles soon. In the meantime Slaughter said he had big plans for Scott as a singles wrestler. Scott was visibly annoyed as he left the office when 'The Doctor of Love' Tom Pritchard bumped into him with his new manager Brother Love. Pritchard said Steiner was a cry baby and he wasn't the only one who had been split from his partner in the draft split (Pritchard was divided from his partner Jimmy Del Ray) and challenged Steiner to a match tonight. Steiner said that he would gladly destroy him. Match 1 Scott Steiner vs 'The Doctor of Love' Tom Pritchard w/Brother Love The match was an absolute squash as Steiner destroyed Pritchard and Brother Love in under two minutes, getting the pin after a Frankensteiner. Winner: Scott Steiner After the match, Sgt Slaugter came out onto the stage and said he was so impressed by the All American Scott Steiner that later tonight he would get a shot at the WWF Champion Yokozuna in the main event. Steiner was overjoyed and seemingly forgave Slaughter for his inability to resolve the WWF Tag Title situation. A video was played on the brand new titantron hyping the debut tonight of the America loving Ludvig Borga who stood outide the Whitehouse and said God Bless the USA as the show went to a commercial break. Match 2 Hacksaw Jim Duggan and The Bushwackers vs Bastian Booger and Well Dunn A truely woeful match saw a Bushwackers battering ram on all the heels followed by Hacksaw picking up the victory over Timothy Well and then the winners celebrated in their own unique way. Winners: Hacksaw Jim Duggan and The Bushwackers Johnny Polo was shown backstage on his mobile phone talking about how great it was to be a yuppie and make money, when he realised he was on camera he ended his call and spoke of how he was looking for a new client to manage after the draft ended his relationship with The Quebecers. He said that he was a successful man and "success breeds success". Match 3 Marty Jannetty vs 'The Model' Rick Martel Marty was hyped throughout the match by the announcers as a clean cut young go getter but the crowd didn't really get behind him. Early in the match, Johnny Polo came out and stood in the aisle, seemingly scouting the two combatants. The finish came when Polo got in the ring and hit Martel with a huge DDT when the ref was down. Jannetty didn't want to win the match that way and woke the ref up and told him what happened. The referee had not choice but to disqualify Jannetty who seemed visibly annoyed with Polo. Johnny Polo got the microphone and said that Jannetty could be so good if he stopped caring about these idiots (the fans). He said that everyweek Jannetty comes out and sucks up to the fans and every weeks they don't care. Polo told Marty that noone liked him anyway but if he joined forces with him, he could turn him into a star. Jannetty slapped Polo and walked away. Winner: 'The Model' Rick Martel Backstage, Mr. Perfect was sipping a bottle of water when Yokozuna, Giant Gonzales and The Headshrinkers came out of nowhere and attacked him until the road agents split them up. Perfect was visibly wounded and Yokozuna announced that later tonight he would have to defeat Giant Gonzales in order to keep his number one contendership alive before the show went to commercials. Match 4 The Headshrinkers w/Afa vs The Smoking Gunns This was standard tag action which ended rather underwhelmingly when Afa lured Bart Gunn out of the ring and got him counted out. After the match, Afa and The Headshrinkers made it clear they were after the tag team titles and wanted to challenge The Steiners at Summerslam. Winners: The Headshrinkers Backstage, Yokozuna and Mr. Fuji cut a reasonably good promo about how Mr. Perfect was a second tier wrestler and although not a poor wrestler, he could never defeat a former Sumo champion. Cut to another backstage corridor where former WWF Champion and King of the Ring Bret Hart is walking. He turns the corner and bumps into his opponent for tonight, Bam Bam Bigelow. Bret is kocked to the floor from the impact of colliding with Bam Bam who laughs and said tonight was his chance to show the world that he was a force to be reckoned with. Lex Luger came to the ring and said he was so excited to meet the new superstar debuting tonight, Ludvig Borga. Luger said that it may even be possible that Borga loves America more than Lex himself. The show then went to commercial. Match 5 Bret Hart vs Bam Bam Bigelow w/ Luna Vachon The two went at it and had a match of which the quality was far too high for a scenario based around terrible angles and gimmicks. The finish came when Bam Bam was forced to tap out to the Sharpshooter or risk serious injury. After the match Luna tried to comfort Bam Bam who was throwing a major tantrum. Winner: Bret Hart Backstage, Harvey Whippleman and Adam Bomb discussed how great Bomb was due to his being affected by a nuclear blast. Crush walked over and started doing weights next to them for no apparent reason. Whippleman and Bomb said that Crush was also a phenomenally strong man and wondered if any nuclear bombs and gone off around Crush's Hawaiian home. Crush took offence to this and said his physique and strength was down to hard work and clean living, not chemical explosions. Adam Bomb challenged Crush to a match next week which was accepted. Mr. Perfect came out to the ring with a slight limp following his earlier assault at the hands of the Samoan Savages. He got a microphone and said that perfection is a state of mind and no matter what beatings they lay on him, he will still be the "Reflection of Perfection". He told Giant Gonzales to get out here right now and their match will begin. Gonzales made his entrance as the show went to a commercial break. Match 6 Mr Perfect vs Giant Gonzales Naturally Mr. Perfect carried Gonzales through the entire match before picking up the win after a particularly weak looking Perfect-plex. Winner: Mr Perfect Sgt. Slaughter came to the ring and announced the debut of his fifth draft pick.... Ludvig Borga. Borga came out to a mediocre ovation despite his build up, draped in red, white and blue clothing and waving a huge US flag. The two celebrated their love of America for a while before Lex Luger came out to join the party. However, Borga cracked the flag over the backs of both Luger and Slaughter before taking off his American clothes to reveal a T-Shirt saying 'I LOVE FINLAND'. He then paraded around the ringside area trying to shake the hands of the fans booing him as Lex and Slaughter lay prone in the ring. Match 7 Scott Steiner vs Yokozuna w/ Mr. Fuji for the WWF Title A decent match saw both wrestlers get an equal amount of offence before a run in from The Headshrinkers and Giant Gonzales gave Yokozuna the win. The Headshrinkers stole Steiner's tag title and ran to the back but they were met by Mr. Perfect who cleaned house on Fatu, Samu and Giant Gonzales before returning the WWF Tag Title to Scott Steiner. During the melee, Yokozuna and Mr. Fuji slipped out of the ring and he and Perfect stared eachother down as Raw went off the air. Winner: Yokozuna Quick Results: Scott Steiner defeated 'The Doctor of Love' Tom Pritchard Hacksaw Jim Duggan and The Bushwackers defeated Bastian Booger and Well Dunn 'The Model' Rick Martel defeated Marty Jannetty by DG The Headshrinkers defeated The Smoking Gunns by countout Bret Hart defeated Bam Bam Bigelow by submision Mr. Perfect defeated Giant Gonzales Yokozuna defeated Scott Steiner to retain the WWF Title
The Wrestling Newsletter - August 1993 This week has been a monumental week in wrestling with the draft split exposing the weeknesses of the WWF roster rather than benefiting the underused workers. It seems Vince McMahon has decided in order to nullify the rising WCW he needs throw money at it to make it go away. Many experts expect Smackdown to be dropped at the end of its 3 month contract after Survivor Series and anticipate the brand split to be a temporary storyline in order to give new signees and underused guys a chance before only those that fail are released That's why there have been several huge signings this weeks for the WWF and only one departure. Starting with the departure, Alundra Blaze has been released, indicating the WWF's decision to dismantle whatever woman's division they had. However, Miss Elizabeth has resigned and is rumoured to orchestrating attacks on her real life ex husband Randy Savage. Another female signing is fitness model Trish Stratus from Canada. She is only 17 years old but she is expected to be involved in a small yet crucial way in the WWF's biggest (and crappest) storyline of the year. WWF has also brought back Jake Roberts in a deal that gives him one chance and one chance only. Roberts has a storied history with drink and drugs but the WWF are hoping his new found Christian ways will curb his outlandish behaviour. The Snake is expected to play the character we are used to seeing from him but as yet it is unclear which brand he will appear on. The WWF has also brought back Haku, The Barbarian and The Warlord. Haku is expected to join The Samoan Savages on Raw whilst The Faces Of Fear are expected to join Smackdown's tag division, although we do not know if they will be heels or faces yet. The WWF are also trying to prove that WCW's loss will be their gain by aquiring Chris Benoit who WCW released this week. Plans so far indicate that he will be repackaged as 'Benoit', an ambiguosly gay French Canadian lumberjack. Greg 'The Hammer' Valentine is also set to return to Smackdown utilising his tried and trusted grizzled veteran gimmick. WWF are also apparently hot on the heals of The Road Warriors. As you may know, Hawk is currently receiving a push of sorts in WCW whilst Animal is collecting money from an insurance policy after a back injury. However, it is known he is keen for a return. It is known that the WWF have no interest in bringing Hulk Hogan or The Ultimate Warrior back to the company, they are said to have burnt their bridges. In addition to these names the WWF has also signed the following to development deal, we will get more details on them as soon as we can: SMW: Adam Copeland, Al Snow, Apolo, Bill Goldberg, Brock Lesnar, Chavo Guerrero, Christian, Chuck Palumbo, Dave Batista, D'lo Brown, John Kronus, Lance Storm, Mark Jindrak, Mike Sanders, Perry Saturn, PJ Walker, Rob Van Dam, Super Crazy USWA: Bobby Duncam Jnr, Dean Malenko, Giant Silva, Glen Jacobs, Jerry Lynn, John Layfield, Johnny Ace, Juventued Guerrera, Kendall Windham, Kevin Walcholz, Marcus Bagwell, Mike Awesome, Paul Levasque, Paul Wight, Rhino, Sean O'Haire, Shawn Stasiak, Shelton Benjamin, Ultimo Dragon, Vampiro.
Friday Night Smackdown Preview The first Smackdown in WWF history will come to live this Friday night from New York City. The Million Dollar Man likes to splash cash and he's certainly spent enough to make tonight's show one for the books. After the draft split, Smackdown was left without the WWF Title and certainly some of the bigger names on the roster will be unhappy about this. See how the situation is resolved. Speaking of unresolved situations, Monday Night Raw gave no indication to The Steiner Brothers of what is to become of their titles. Perhaps Ted Dibiase can shed some light on this issue. The undefeated Tatanka will have a tough test of his skills against the wily veteran (and GM's favourite) Irwin R. Schyster. Also watch in amazement as the Men On A Mission battle the dastardly Quebecers Former WWF Champion Bob Backlund will be in action against rising star Diesel and witness the return to the ring of the Red Rooster as he takes on 'The Bad Guy' Razor Ramon. Confirmed Matches Tatanka vs IRS Men On A Mission vs The Quebecers Bob Backlund vs Diesel The Red Rooster vs Razor Ramon The '1-2-3' Kid vs Doink The Clown Jim Neidhart and The Beverley Brothers vs Virgil and High Energy Plus Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, Randy Savage, Jerry Lawler and Damien Demento in action! Smackdown Results from Alumni Arena, NY The show began with the royal overtures of Jerry Lawler's theme. The King got on the microphone and spoke of how Smackdown didn't have a world champion, but it did have "a King". He told the audience he was certain that Ted Dibiase was on his way to the ring now to present The King with a brand new World Heavyweight Title. However, instead of Dibiase, the music of the Macho Man hit and he came down to the ring in a ridiculous frilly purple and green outfit. Savage told Lawler that he was born to wear the WWF Title and demanded Dibiase to come out now and explain what he's going to do about the fact the champion (Yokozuna) is exclusive to Raw. As the Macho Man was berating The Million Dollar Man, the lights went out and The Undertaker made his way to the ring with Paul Bearer. Bearer got the microphone and said that now "that worm, Harvey Whippleman" was unable to torment his Undertaker anymore, he had his eyes on the top prize, the WWF Title. Finally, the Smackdown GM Ted Dibiase came out to address the three superstars. Before he could speak, Savage asked why he couldn't have a shot at the WWF Title, he said that even though Yokozuna was on Raw, there was no reason he couldn't have a WWF Title shot at a cross brand PPV. Ted Dibiase said that was true, but Jack Tunney decided Raw would get to pick the number one contender at Summerslam as a punishment for Dibiase trying to bribe him. However, The Million Dollar Man said that he didn't care anymore because Smackdown does have a champion they could all be proud of and with that he introduced the WWF Intercontinental Champion Shawn Michaels. HBK came out and told Savage, Taker and Lawler that as he was Intercontinental Champion, it was no longer a second tier belt. He said a championship is only as good as its champion and with him as the Intercontinental Champion and "that fat slob" Yokozuna as the WWF Champion it was clear which belt had more prestige. Savage defended the WWF Title and said he was long done with the Intercontinental Title saying he "left behind in the 80s". Michaels challenged Savage to put his money where his mouth his and wrestle him tonight. Savage said he would gladly teach him a lesson, only he didn't want the Intercontinental to be on the line as he was above that. Dibiase made the match official for tonight, HBK vs The Macho Man in a non title match. However, if Savage doesn't win, he must openly admit that the WWF Intercontinental Title is on a par with the WWF Title. Jerry Lawler started whinging about how he was The King and deserved royal treatment, this was greeted by a chokeslam from The Undertaker. Dibiase announced the second part of a double main event tonight - The Undertaker vs Jerry 'The King' Lawler as the show went to commercial. Coming back from the commercial break, Jim Neidhart was in Ted Dibiase's office (think Mr. Burns' office). Ted told Neidhart that tonight he was letting him get his hands on his punk brother in law Owen Hart in the 6 man tag match. However, Dibiase informed Neidhart that he wanted a favour from him, he said of all the people that could've been drafted to Smackdown, the last person he wanted was Virgil and he wanted Virgil absolutely destroyed tonight. Neidhart said he lived to give pain and wanted to thank The Million Dollar Man for this match but asked why he had to team with The Beverley Brothers who he referred to as "the worst tag team in the WWF". Match 1 Jim Neidhart and The Beverley Brothers w/The Genius vs Virgil and High Energy Naturally, The Genius began with a poem 'I am so pround of my boys, The Beverley Brothers, they will make High Energy run home to their mothers". The match itself was understandably terrible with The Beverley Brothers botching several moves to the annoyance of Jim Neidhart who showed impressive strength throughout. The finish came when Virgil small packaged Blake Beverley. After the match, Neidhart yelled at The Beverley Brothers calling them 'useless'. Winners: Virgil and High Energy Backstage, Rob Bartlett (remember him?!) was interviewing 'The Bad Guy' Razor Ramon. Razor said he was embarrassed a few weeks ago by the 1-2-3 Kid, there was no way that The Red Rooster would do the same thing tonight. Then, The Red Rooster came over and started clucking at Razor. Ramon threw his toothpick at Rooster and walked off in disgust. Match 2 The 1-2-3 Kid vs Doink The Clown In a fun, but short, match Doink got the win when he hid under the ring and apparently duplicated himself whilst there as 2 Doinks came out and attacked The Kid and then both pinned him. Winner: Doink The Clown(s) After the commercials, Gorrilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan hyped tonight's double main event of The Undertaker vs Jerry Lawler and Shawn Michaels vs Randy Savage. Match 3 Men On A Mission vs The Quebecers As Mabel and Mo were rapping their way to the ring (alas without Oscar) The Quebecers attacked them in the aisle and made full use of their dirty trick by isolating Mo and eventually scored the pinfall after a double spinebuster. Winners: The Quebecers After the match, The Quebecers introduced their new manager Raymond (Rougeau) and said that Rick Steiner better watch his back as they proved they were the best tag team on Smackdown and in the WWF and deserved a shot at Summerslam. Backstage, the cameras caught up with Shawn Michaels and Diesel. HBK said that later tonight was his chance to prove he's a major player in the WWF, but first Diesel would show how dominating he can be against "the old fogey" Bob Backlund. Match 4 Razor Ramon vs The Red Rooster The entrances lasted longer than the match as the Rooster ran around the ring clucking and Razor merely grabbed him and gave him the Razor's Edge for the win with the first move of the match. Winner: Razor Ramon Backstage, The Million Dollar Man was speaking in his office to IRS (who sits at a typewriter on the edge of Ted's desk). He told IRS that Tatanka was a capable superstar but his undefeated streak needed to end to bring him down to earth a bit. Dibiase told Irwin if he won he would give him this, and he opened up a briefcase, the contents of which we can't see, but IRS is speechless at the sight. The show then goes to commercial. Match 5 Diesel vs Bob Backlund Shawn Michaels came down to ringside and superkicked Backlund when the referee wasn't looking, Diesel then hit the Jacknife powerbomb and scored an upset win. Winner: Diesel Jerry 'The King' Lawler was backstage looking very worried. His good friend, country singing senstation Jeff Jarrett came over and asked what was wrong. Lawler said he wondered if he was out of his depth against The Undertaker, who he pointed out couldn't feel pain. Jarrett asked since when were kings afraid of undertakers. This lifted Lawler's mood who said he had a plan and whispered it in Jarrett's ear who seemed to like what he heard. Match 6 Tatanka vs IRS A good match saw plenty of back and forth action, plus all the dirty tricks imaginable from IRS. Ultimately it was Tatanka who picked up the win with an Indian Death Drop after IRS ran into an exposed turnbuckle, which he had himself exposed. Winner: Tatanka After the commercials, Jeff Jarrett and Jerry Lawler attempted to sneak up The Undertaker and attack him. They found a man wearing a long black coat and hat and started beating him up, only to realise it was just a coat and hat stand. In their confusion the real Undertaker appeared and chased the heels off. Rick Steiner made his way to the ring with his WWF Tag Team Title and said that the situation regarding the Tag Titles was ridiculous and demanded something happened about it soon. He said that The Million Dollar Man should use some of those millions on purchasing Scott Steiner from Raw to unite the WWF Tag Team Champions. When he was finished, Damien Demento made his way to the ring for their match. Match 7 Rick Steiner vs Damien Demento Considering Damien Demento was in the match, it wasn't too bad. A series of power moves culminating with a huge Bulldog saw Rick Steiner pick up the win. However he had no time to celebrate as The Quebecers and Raymond made their way to the ring and beat Rick Steiner down. Winner: Rick Steiner Backstage Paul Bearer was shown in a dark room with a coffin. He hyped up his Undertaker saying he was the most dominating superstar in the WWF. When he finished The Undertaker did his trademark upright sit up in the coffin and told Jerry Lawler it was time to "Rest In Peace". Then Smackdown went to another commercial. Match 8 The Undertaker vs Jerry Lawler w/Jeff Jarrett Both Lawler and Jarrett did a great job of acting scared of The Undertaker who dominated the match, apart from brief periods where Lawler and Jarrett cheated for a bit of offence. Ultimately The Dead Man was too much for The King who was tombstoned after 10 minutes and pinned Winner: The Undertaker Backstage, The Macho Man said he was so confident of victory tonight that if he didn't win he would gladly admit that the Intercontinental Title is just as good as the WWF Title. He said HBK was just a flash in the pan IC Champ unlike himself, Savage claimed he 'made that title'. Match 9 Shawn Michaels vs Macho Man Randy Savage These two had a match as great match featuring both men utilising their flying elbow drops. However the finish put a downer on the match as Diesel interfered when it seemed Savage was bound for victory. The Intercontinental Champion and his bodyguard assaulted Savage until Bob Backlund, Diesel's opponent earlier in the night came out and chased them off. Backlund attended to Savage, who was clutching his ribs as Smackdown went off the air.
The Wrestling Newsletter - August 1993 This week's Smackdown exposed several weaknesses on the show. The lack of a world champion and the apparent conclusion that the Intercontinental Championship will be become the flagship belt is confusing and gives the midcard nothing to fight over. That said, you could argue that Smackdwon has no midcard to speak of. In terms of storylines, why was Ted Dibiase trying to get Tatanka to lose. It's apparently his job to get ratings so why try to end a winning streak which is gathering lots of momentum and garnering lots of interest. Also, Ted Dibiase was featured far too much on Smackdown, he is a fantastic wrestler and brilliant on the microphone but many feel he was far too heavily featured this week. At the Smackdown tapings this week, Greg Valentine wrestled a dark match as a face against Jimmy Del Ray and picked up the win to a decent reaction. Speaking of Del Ray, he is set to be repackaged with a new gimmick, possibly as a fighter pilot Top Gun style. Basing a gimmick on a movie that's seven years old is bound to be a success.... The second Doink on Smackdown was apparently played by Steve Keirn who is currently wrestling as Skinner on the Smackdown brand. It is unknown whether the two Doinks will continue in this manner or if that was just a one off dirty trick. In one bizaare news story, the WWF has apparently come to terms with a deal involving Las Vegas magician Lance Murdoch. So far, it is believed that he will not appear on screen himself but he will offer the WWF advice on how to perform special effects in front of a live audience. Many insiders are saying these effects will come in to play during The Undertaker's storylines. John Tenta has re-signed with the WWF and it seems he will be repackaged as The Natural Disaster (as his former partner Typhoon is tied down to a written contract with WCW). The WWF are still trailing the Road Warriors with Animal keen to join but Hawk not wanting to. The WWF are said not to be interested in Animal without Hawk. WWF management are said to be less than impressed with Randy Savage's attitude. He was scheduled to lose to HBK on Smackdown due to Diesel's interference but he blocked it using his creative control. It seems, he is happy to go along with this feud with Shawn Michaels but wasn't happy to do the job on live television Expect WWF delevopment talents Sean O'Haire, Shawn Stasiak, Mark Jindrak, Chuck Palumbo and Mike Sanders to debut in the coming weeks as a quintet of male cheerleaders who will be clean cut faces whipping the crowd into a frenzy before their matches.
Thanks for your comments. I hope it is coming across as light hearted (and occassionally humourous!) without being ridiculous and trying too hard to be funny such as having Giant Gonzales vs Blake Beverley for the WWF Title at Wrestlemania.
Raw Preview Mr. Perfect will have tough test tonight as he faces Headshrinker Fatu, and remember, Perfect has to win to keep his hopes of a WWF Title shot at Summerslam alive. Speaking of the champ, Yokozuna will have a difficult task as he defends the title against Hacksaw Jim Duggan, GM Sgt. Slaughter's assistant. After Ludvig Borga shocked the world by turning on America in his debut last week, he will have his first match tonight, teaming with Bam Bam Bigelow to face Bret Hart and Lex Luger. WWF fans have yet to see Borga in action but both Slaughter and Luger have testified that he is a wrestling machine. Also, following their altercation last week, Crush will face off one on one against the nuclear man Adam Bomb. This one should be intense to say the least. Last week saw Johnny Polo cost Marty Jannetty a match against Rick Martel. Tonight, Jannetty will take on Giant Gonzales and you have to wonder what impact Johnny Polo will have on the precedings or if Jannetty will sell out to the successful business man. WWF Tag Team Champion Scott Steiner was impressive in singles action last week and will get a chance to prove himself again against Headshrinker Samu who has been after his gold lately. In tag team action, watch the ever popular Smoking Gunns battle a mystery team, new to the WWF. In short, this Raw can't be missed! Confirmed Matches WWF Title Match: Yokozuna (c) vs Hacksaw Jim Duggan Mr. Perfect vs Fatu Scott Steiner vs Samu Bret Hart and Lex Luger vs Ludvig Borga and Bam Bam Bigelow Marty Jannetty vs Giant Gonzales Crush vs Adam Bomb The Smoking Gunns vs ???
Predictions welcomed

Raw Results The show began with Vince McMahon standing in the ring and he said that right now he was going to interview Ludvig Borga about his actions last week and about his debut tonight in the main event teaming with Bam Bam Bigelow against Bret Hart and Lex Luger. Borga came out to a big boo wearing Finnish colours, but he acted like a face, trying to shake hands with the fans and so on. When he got to the ring, McMahon asked him why he betrayed America last week. Borga said that 'USA is not OK' and that countries like his beloved Finland were suffering the effects of global warming because countries like America weren't cutting down their fossil fuel emmissions. He said that Americans were 'insular and selfish' unlike the ecological people of Finland. Suddenly, the music of Lex Luger hit and the musclebound hero made his way to the ring in an aggressive manner as if he had heard enough. Lex grabbed a microphone and simply said 'If you don't like America, get the heck out'. Luger also said he couldn't wait for the main event to teach Borga a lesson and insisted the match started now. So Bam Bam and Bret made their way to the ring and the scheduled main event became the opening match. Match 1 Bret Hart and Lex Luger vs Bam Bam Bigelow and Ludvig Borga The definite match of the night was a back and forth affair with each superstar getting in their trademark moves. The finish was marred in controversy, however, as Lex used the metal plate in his elbow to knock Bam Bam out of the ring and accidentally hit Bret Hart too. Whilst Lex was apologising, he was small packaged by Borga for the upset pinfall. Winners: Bam Bam Bigelow and Ludvig Borga After the match, Borga assaulted the downed Luger and then covered him in a giant Finnish flag before getting out of the ring area as fast as he could as Raw went to commercials. Coming back from the break, Mr. Perfect was seen in the back taping his wrists ahead of his match with Fatu later. There was a knock on his door and Perfect opened it to see a big cardboard box there. However, both Headshrinkers jumped out and attacked him before Scott Steiner appeared to run them off. Match 2 Jimmy Snuka, Jim Powers and The Bushwackers vs 'Dr. Love' Tom Pritchard w/ Brother Love, Bastian Booger and Well Dunn This match was as poor and as confusing as it sounds. The Bushwackers got another chance to do The Battering Ram into lots of people repeatedly before Sunka gave Timothy Well a splash and picked up the win Winners: Snuka, Powers and The Bushwackers Backstage Sgt. Slaughter was in his office talking to his assistant Hacksaw Jim Duggan about Duggan's WWF Title match tonight. He said if he won, not only would he have to go through Mr. Perfect at Summerslam, but he'd have to face either Bret Hart or Bam Bam Bigelow the next night on Raw as those two will compete for the number one contendership at Summerslam. Then Raw went to commercials. Match 3 The Smoking Gunns vs Splash Mountain Coming back from the commercials, The Smoking Gunns were making their way to the ring and then they awaited the arrival of their opponents. They were introduced as 'The Ugandan Giant' Kamala and Alaska 'the wild man from.....Alaska' collectively known as Splash Mountain and weighing a combined 837 pounds. The match was short but fun with Splash Mountain living up to their name in terms of the number of splashes they used. The finish came when Kamala stood in one corner and Alaska stood in the other and Bart Gunn stood groggy in the middle of the ring. Then the two big men charged at Bart Gunn and sandwiched him with the move now known as the Splash Mountain. Kamala then picked up the pinfall. Winners: Splash Mountain Backstage Todd Pettengill (oh yes!) was trying to interview Ludvig Borga. Borga ignored him at first but then said that now he had pinned Lex Luger, he had pinned America and that was all he wanted to achieve in the WWF so he announced his retirement from wrestling after just one match and said he was returning to Finland with a 100% record still intact. He then got into a car and fled the arena. Elsewhere backstage, Bret Hart cut a fairly lacklustre promo about his match with Bam Bam Bigelow at Summerslam to become number one contender for the WWF Title. Bret said he'd been there before and knew he had what it takes to reach the top of the mountain. Then there was a commercial break. Match 4 Crush vs Adam Bomb w/Harvey Whippleman A standard big man brawl went back and forth with body slams and clotheslines for about 5 minutes before the fight spilled to the outside and both men fought around the ring and even into the crowd resulting in a double count out. Draw due to Double Count Out After the match, Sgt. Slaughter came onto the entrance ramp and announced that the two would meet again at Summerslam in a Nuclear Warfare Match which meant no count outs and no disqualifications. This received a mediocre pop. Backstage, Marty Jannetty was with Todd Pettengill. Marty said that the fans meant everything to him and he couldn't be bought by 'that yuppie' Johnny Polo. He warned Polo not to get involved in his match with Giant Gonzales tonight as he didn't want anything to do with him anymore. Match 5 Marty Jannetty vs Giant Gonzales Jannetty wasn't good enough to drag even an average match out of the Giant. Naturally, Polo ignored Jannetty's warning. However, rather than trying to help Jannetty like last week, he punched Jannetty with a clenched fist behind the referee's back which lead to Gonzales picking up the pin. Winner: Giant Gonzales After a short commercial break, Lex Luger was shown backstage. He said that Borga had wronged him, but worse than that he had wronged the fans, but worst of all he had wronged America. Lex said that everytime he left America he couldn't wait to come home. However, he said he must travel to Finland to find Ludvig Borga and right the wrong that has been done to America. He then got onto the LEX EXPRESS (!!) and told the driver to head to the airport. Match 6 Mr. Perfect vs Fatu w/ Afa Afa's constant interference gave Perfect some problems. However, he had the last laugh when Fatu accidentally knocked Afa off the apron and Perfect hit the Perfect-Plex and continued his charge into Summerslam. Winner: Mr Perfect One commercial break later and Jack Tunney, the WWF President, is standing in the ring. He announces that he had a big problem deciding the future of the WWF Tag Team Titles with Scott Steiner on Raw and Rick Steiner on Smackdown but finally he has made a decision. He said that at Summerslam there would be a 6 man battle royale with 2 men starting and another man entering every 2 minutes until one team remains who will be crowned WWF Tag Team Champions. He announced the match would be between The Steiners, The Quebecers and The Headshrinkers. Match 7 Scott Steiner vs Samu Scott Steiner was clearly fired up for this match after the announcement from Jack Tunney. He hit several huge suplexes and clotheslines. However, Fatu interfered and The Headshrinkers and Afa double teamed Steiner leaving the WWF Tag Team Title co holder prone in the ring. Winner: Scott Steiner by Disqualification After the break, the Jim Ross and Vince McMahon announced an event had occured in the locker room during the break and cameras were there to record the goings on. Scott Steiner was in the locker room going crazy, yelling that his WWF Tag Team Title had been stolen from his locker room. He blamed The Samoan Savages and promised revenge before Crush, Jim Powers and Marty Jannetty managed to calm him down. Match 8 WWF Title Match: Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs Yokozuna (c) Despite the announcers building Duggan up as a tough test all night, Yokozuna dominated from the outset and had the match won with a Bonzai Drop after about 4 minutes. Winner and still WWF Champion: Yokozuna After the match, Yokozuna decided to Bonzai Drop Duggan 3 more times until Mr. Perfect charged down to ringside to save Hacksaw from serious injury. Before Perfect could get his hands on Yokozuna, he and Mr. Fuji fled the ring to get the WWF Title and flee the arena. However, just like Scott Steiner's title earlier in the night, the WWF Title had vanished. Yokozuna picked up WWF Timekeeper Mark Yeaton and demanded his title. Yeaton shrieked he had no idea where it was and finally Yokozuna let him go as Raw went off the air surrounded in much confusion.
The Wrestling Newsletter Raw was fairly average this week with only one match (Bam Bam and Borga vs Luger and Bret Hart) being anything above the standard TV match and that storyline about the missing belts is just stupid. Another stupid decision was the 6 man battle royale match in which the last two standing are named WWF Tag Team Champions. Surely this could result in combinations such as Fatu and Pierre being named new champs. The WWF clearly haven't thought about the fact that if The Steiner Brothers win, the problem of one champ being on Raw and the other on Smackdown, wont be solved at all. So don't expect them to pick up the in at the PPV. The debuting Alaska was in fact John Tenta under a mask. Tenta has previously played Earthquake teaming with Typhoon but with his former partner in WCW, the WWF teamed him with veteran big man Kamala. Smackdown's one season contract has been extended to six seasons despite the less than impressive ratings. Obviously rumours of the brand split being short lived were false. In other news, Roddy Piper has signed a new deal with the WWF but it seems his in ring appearances will be limited to special PPVs. However, expect the Rowdy one to host a regular Piper's Pit segment on WWF television. In development news, Jimmy Del Ray appeared in SMW debuting his Top Gun gimmick. Known as 'Maverick Del Ray' he defeated Al Snow. Expect Del Ray to re debut sometime after Summerslam. The WWF's negotiations with The Roadwarriors are still ongoing. Hawk is prepared to join the WWF according to the latest news but doesn't want to give up WCW and has suggested working alternative weeks for the two leading wrestling companies in America. If the WWF succeed with the negotiations, expect to see Animal and Hawk at Summerslam. Speaking of the WWF's second biggest event of the year, here is the current card along with matches that are likely to take place. It doesn't look a particularly great PPV, but it could be worse. Confirmed Matches WWF Title Match: Yokozuna (c) vs Mr. Perfect (if Perfect beats Samu on Raw, which he definitely will) Bret Hart vs Bam Bam Bigelow for Number One Contendership Nuclear Warfare Match: Adam Bomb vs Crush Three Team Battle Royale for the WWF Tag Team Title: Steiner Brothers vs The Quebecers vs The Headshrinkers Likely Matches Randy Savage vs Shawn Michaels Diesel vs Bob Backlund Lex Luger vs Ludvig Borga The Undertaker vs Jerry Lawler and Jeff Jarrett This leaves the WWF 5 shows to come up with matches for Tatanka, Giant Gonzales, Razor Ramon, Doink, IRS, Marty Jannetty, The Smoking Gunns, High Energy and more
Hows the Summerslam card comparing to the real life one?
Friday Night Smackdown Preview Last week's Smackdown ended with former WWF Champion Bob Backlund rushing to the aid of another former WWF Champion Randy Savage who was falling victim to a 2 on 1 attack from the WWF Intercontinental Champion Shawn Michaels and his bodyguard Diesel. In accordance with this, the main event for Smackdown will pit HBK and Diesel against The Macho Man and Bob Backlund. After his match against Jerry 'The King' Lawler last week, The Undertaker will square off against Lawler's protegé, Nashville singing sensation, Jeff Jarrett. Surely Lawler will be involved in some way. Speaking of The King, he will be involved in the comeback edition of Piper's Pit, hosted by WWF legend Rowdy Roddy Piper. The combination of those two superstars with live microphones will be interesting to say the least. Razor Ramon has been on a roll since his debut in the WWF, apart from an upset at the hands of the 1-2-3 Kid, tonight Razor will get a chance for some revenge as they compete. Last week Irwin R. Schyster was unable to end Tatanka's winning streak. Tonight, the Native American Warrior will face off against a man yet to register a victory, Barry Horrowitz. Could a reversal in fortunes occur? With the announcement on Raw that The Steiners will defend the WWF Tag Team Titles against The Headshrinkers and The Quebecers at Summerslam. Tonight Rick Steiner will have to find a partner to face The Quebecers but he better be careful that he doesn't suffer the same fate as Scott Steiner and Yokozuna on Raw who had their belts stolen. After their poor performance in the six man tag match last week, The Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase is giving The Beverley Brothers another chance to impress in a 2 on 1 handicap match against the GM's least favourite superstar, Virgil. If they don't get the job done, Dibiase has promised a severe punishment. All this and more on a blockbuster edition of the show that is changing Friday nights, Smackdown! Confirmed Matches Shawn Michaels and Diesel vs Macho Man Randy Savage and Bob Backlund The Undertaker vs 'Double J' Jeff Jarrett Rick Steiner and ??? vs The Quebecers Razor Ramon vs The '1-2-3' Kid Tatanka vs Barry Horrowitz The Beverley Brothers vs Virgil
Sorry for lack of updates, had lots of work to do.
