I'm loving the McManus/Aroma storyline, partially because I can't tell exactly how it's going to go down! <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

MR: Hello and welcome to another exciting and thrill packed edition of Saturday Night Slammasters. This is the last Slammasters before Gold Rush -- which is next Friday and Saturday. Tonight, we will find out the last entrants into the tournament.</p><p> </p><p>

RDJ: On ContinentalWrestlingLeague.com, it was announced that El Héroe Mexicano will be in the tournament. I can also officially announce -- so hold onto your butts Michael and Duke -- that Lars Brecher from Ultimate European Wrestling and Buckminster Snark from Australian Pro Wrestling will be in the tournament! Des Davids has also been added to the tournament with out having to qualify.</p><p> </p><p>

DH: Oh baby. Lars and Davids? I've seen tapes of Lars. That's one mean cuss. Mean as a copperhead snake and Des Davids is my new pick to win! I'm sorry Jay, but Des Davids is going to take the whole thing!</p><p> </p><p>

MR: And another blockbuster announcement for Gold Rush -- The Mission will be defending the Global Wrestling Council World Tag Team Championship against The Fat Cats. In the past couple of weeks, the bad blood has really begun to boil between the two teams.</p><p>

MR: And! Hot off the presses, Ox Mastadon -- the North American Heavyweight Champion will be defending against the two men who stole the show at Independence -- KC Glenn and Riley McManus. The former partners beat the hell out of each other at Independence and are being rewarded for their efforts with an opportunity to become North American Heavyweight Champion.</p><p>

<p>Wow the main event didn't hit like I thought it would. Has Jacob slipped while he was away or was it just a bad night. I guess I was looking for a solid C or so match so that D+ kind of shocked me.</p><p> </p><p>

Interesting developments with Riley and the big guy. It was bound to happen but who emerges the face and who continues down the dark side <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/rolleyes.png.4b097f4fbbe99ce5bcd5efbc1b773ed6.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> I know what I'd like to see.</p>

Sixteen men will enter the two night tournament. One will leave as Gold Rush Champion!</p><p> </p><p> Gold Rush VI is a two night event -- Friday and Saturday of the fourth week of August. It is a blockbuster event. The North American Heavyweight, Tag Team, and Women's Championships are all on the line. The United States Championship will be on the line and the COTT World Heavyweight and World Tag Team Championships are also on the line.</p><p> </p><p> This is the biggest weekend in professional wrestling. Careers are made at Gold Rush. Hellion, Riley McManus, Logan Diaz, Clyde Puder, and Ox Mastadon have all reigned supreme as Gold Rush Champion. “Bulldozer” Brandon Smith versus Lars Brecher</p><p> </p><p>

Smith and Brecher was a hard hitting affair that would have been at home anywhere in Japan with the heavy strikes that lasted through the near six-minute match. Bulldozer is a noted strong-style competitor, a former Mid Atlantic Heavyweight Champion, two-time NYCW Tri-State Champion, BCG Challenger Series Champion, GCG Openweight Champion, and a former COTT World Heavyweight and World Tag Team Champion. While Brecher was almost unknown in America, he had built a reputation in Europe as a fantastic wrestler. A four time UEW Tag Team Champion with his partner Ralph Grimm, he has also won the UEW Heavyweight Championship on two occasions and even the VWA Swiss Championship. The German grappler was a twelve year pro and a noted submission specialist.</p><p> </p><p>

Although Brecher had built a reputation for himself as a submission artist, he is a solid striker that was able to dish it out as good as he took it. He hit a wicked standing headbutt that almost brought the near six-feet-five inch Bulldozer to his knees from the impact. Lars followed the headbutt up with a German Suplex for a near fall and when Lars went for another German, Brandon did a standing switch and hit a backdrop driver that he followed up immediately with a Tombstone Piledriver for the win.</p><p> </p><p>

Bulldozer Brandon Smith defeated Lars Brecher in 6:47 by pinfall with a Tombstone Piledriver. </p><p>

“The Return of the Monster” James Diaz versus Des Davids</p><p> </p><p>

From a visual standpoint, this was a very impressive match before the bell even rang. Des Davids was six feet five inches, two hundred and sixty pounds and incredibly muscular. James Diaz was six feet nine inches, two hundred and ninety pounds and had muscles in places that most people didn’t have places. It was not often that someone the sheer size of Des Davids had someone physically bigger than him across the ring from him and this was one of those times.</p><p> </p><p>

Davids came out of the gate early on with a nasty mean streak. He was fighting dirty and he was fighting to win. Diaz got to show off why his family is known as a family of monsters. Big men who can absorb massive amounts of pain and keep fighting. Diaz kept fighting. He fought through a huge powerslam from Davids and a clothesline that would have sent a normal man to the hospital. Diaz was able to fight back and catch Des Davids with a ring-shaking Death by Diaz and the surprising pinfall victory.</p><p> </p><p>

James Diaz defeated Des Davids in 11:30 by pinfall with a Death by Diaz. </p><p>

“The Canadian Wrestling Machine” David Stone versus Buckminster Snark</p><p> </p><p>

In one of the more interesting match ups of the night, Bucky Snark -- representing Australia Pro Wrestling and a the final student of the ZEN Temple Dojo -- against a Canadian wrestling purist. Snark came from the lucha-comedy mold -- Snark had grown more serious though since moving to APW. Stone lived up to the moniquer of wrestling machine while Snark kept wanting to turn the match into a brawl. It made for an exciting bout that really got the fans invested -- despite them not knowing the former ZEN Conceptual and APW Commonwealth Champion.</p><p> </p><p>

Snark got caught with a German Suplex that Stone rolled into a Regal Plex that Stone bridged into the pin to advance in the tournament.</p><p> </p><p>

In a bout that had decent wrestling but non-existent crowd heat, David Stone defeated Buckminster Snark in 9:22 by pinfall. </p><p>

“The Tiger” Alexander Vasquez versus Cameron Vessey w/ Lisa Bowen</p><p> </p><p>

Vasquez and Vessey had a very back and forth match. Vasquez actually had control for a good portion of the match and Vessey was fighting while stepping back. Multiple times Vasquez looked like he was going to catch Vessey with the Side Blaster, but Vessey was able to block it each time. Vasquez attempted a roll up but Vessey kicked out a two.</p><p> </p><p>

Vessey was able to counter another attempt at the Side Blaster into a Vessey Driver II and score the pinfall victory and advance in the Gold Rush tournament.</p><p> </p><p>

Cameron Vessey defeated Alexander Vasquez in 8:19 by pinfall with a Vessey Driver II. </p><p>

“Mr. PGHW” Yoshimi Mushashibo versus “The Rampage” Deever Arnold</p><p> </p><p>

From the moment Yoshimi Mushashibo walked through the curtain, the crowd was behind him. The fans in attendance knew him. They knew of his legendary battles and exploits. They also knew how special it was for him to be in the Lowe Ballrooom. Deever Arnold was booed from the minute he came out.</p><p> </p><p>

Every piece of offense that Arnold got caused the crowd to boo and every piece of offense that Mushashibo got caused the crowd to cheer There was a moment where Yoshimi tweaked his ankle that looked like it really hurt, but in the end Yoshimi locked in his world-renowned Yoshimi Lock [Crippler Crossface] for the victory.</p><p> </p><p>

Yoshimi Mushashibo defeated Deever Arnold in 7:34 by submission with a Yoshimi Lock. </p><p>

Guide versus “American Hellspawn” Hellion w/ Father Grim</p><p> </p><p>

The legendary tag team grappler Guide -- with ten tag team titles with Scout across DAVE and TCW and even one tag team title in SWF with Robbie Retro of all people. Hellion, at six feet seven inches and three hundred and sixty pounds is a terrifying sight. Guide was decked out in full material fatigues and Hellion came to the ring with a massive smoking demon head on that was terrifying to look at.</p><p> </p><p>

This was a very physical match. Hellion is not known for possessing a pretty style, being particularly fluid technically or jumping off the top rope. He’s just a big powerhouse who steamrolls his opponents. Guide, on the other hand, is much more of an all arounder who just prefers to throw hands even though he has a good technical base and some top rope moves.</p><p> </p><p>

Guide did not back down from the monstrous Hellion -- though Hellion kept throwing Guide around the ring. Guide hit several running clotheslines and went for a big dropkick to try to bring down Hellion -- but Hellion caught Guide’s legs and pulled him right into a Devolution Bomb for the victory.</p><p> </p><p>

Hellion defeated Guide in 8:59 by pinfall with a Devolution Bomb. </p><p>

Greg Keith versus Jay Chord w/ Lisa Bowen</p><p> </p><p>

The battle of two second generation superstars -- two guys with fantastic technical bases and a family legacy that guaranteed they would be stars in wrestling, legacies that they are each living up to. Jay Chord works full time for North of the Border Wrestling where he just lost the Canadian Championship to Duane Stone. He also came out with Lisa Bowen, officially making him, at least for this tournament, a member of Bowen Services.</p><p> </p><p>

Greg and Jay went hold for hold in a fantastic match. If this match was in a bigger building or for a bigger company, it probably would have been in consideration for ‘match of the year. Greg hit Jay with multiple suplexes that he tried to follow up with a Proton Lock, but Jay wouldn’t let him get it locked in. Jay hit a big DDT for a near fall. Greg kicked out and went for the Proton Lock once more, but Jay pushed him off. Jay got to his feet and caught Greg with a Cradle Piledriver.</p><p> </p><p>

Jay Chord defeated Greg Keith in 14:53 by pinfall with a Cradle Piledriver. </p><p>

El Héroe Mexicano versus Sayeed Ali w/ Brother G</p><p> </p><p>

Sayeed Ali was out first and came to the ring with former owner of Grimm SoCal Wrestling and legendary west coast rapper, Brother G [shortened from Brother Grimm to try to stay relevant with the changing landscape in hip hop.] The crowd was definitely surprised to see Brother G in attendance and he got a mixed reaction.</p><p> </p><p>

El Héroe Mexicano was next out and a lot of fans were very excited to see the luchador they had come to know through SOTBW’s television and pay per view reach, before he moved to OLLIE and continued to push himself.</p><p> </p><p>

This match was a clash in styles in a very good way Mexicano attacked Ali with fluid lucha-libre style offense. Very fast paced moves. Some great technical prowess as well, but everything was still rooted in the speed and fluidity that one expects from high level lucha libre. Ali, on the other hand, kept trying to slow the match down and make it physical. He punished Mexicano with hard hitting strikes and a big brainbuster that looked like it knocked Mexicano out, but it only got a two count. </p><p> </p><p>

Ali got caught with an enzugari that dropped him to the mat and allowed Mexicano to climb to the top rope and leap off with the most beautiful Flying Headbutt in wrestling. That was all she wrote.</p><p> </p><p>

El Héroe Mexicano defeated Sayeed Ali in 12:50 by pinfall with a Flying Headbutt.</p><p>

El Héroe Mexicano stood on the middle rope and raised his arms above his head, celebrating his victory -- his first victory in his first appearance in the United States. Sayeed Ali got back to his feet. Brother G was on the outside of the ring and he yelled some instructions for Ali and Ali nodded. He chop blocked Mexicano while he was on the second rope. Mexicano fell to the mat and Ali draped his leg over the bottom rope and leapt up, his body crashing down onto Mexicano’s knee. He did this again. And again. And Again. Eventually, security personnel made it to the ring but Mexicano was holding his knee and could not stand on it. Ali and Brother G were all smiles as they walked to the back.</p><p>

Matthew Keith versus “The Nightmare” Scythe w/ Father Grim</p><p> </p><p>

Matthew Keith, who is deceptively thick, and Scythe had a very good match. It was the story of the more technical Keith trying to chop the tree down that was Scythe. Keith targeted the knees -- which were also helping to set up for the famous Keith Family Proton Lock, but he was also trying to keep the near seven footer off his feet. </p><p> </p><p>

Scythe, living up to his moniquer “The Nightmare” never backed down, instead he kept coming forward. Kept moving towards Matthew. Kept absorbing the punishment. The crowd was definitely into the story these two were telling. Matthew hit Scythe with a big DDT but before he could make the pin, Father Grim was up on the apron yelling at referee Darren Smith that Keith had grabbed a handful of Scythe’s mask and should be disqualified. Smith goes to admonish him.</p><p> </p><p>

Suddenly, in the ring is a man who just as tall -- if not taller than Scythe. He does not wear a mask, but he is wearing a long jacket that says ‘Evil Dead’ across the back. </p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="nMVoNSO.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/nMVoNSO.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

Keith sees him and his eyes go wide. The man, whom we can only assume was Evil Dead, kicked Keith in the gut and hit him with a huge powerbomb before exiting the ring and moving around to stand by Father Grim. Scythe was back to his feet now and he picked Keith up and hit him with the Underworld Spike [Two Handed Choke Bomb] and covered him for the win.</p><p> </p><p>

Scythe defeated Matthew Keith in 11:49 by pinfall with an Underworld Spike following interference from Evil Dead. Scythe makes defence number 1 of his CWL United States title. </p><p>

Clyde Puder & Jakob Yoder versus The Devil’s Rejects © w/ February Malaise</p><p> </p><p>

This was what would be called a ‘hoss’ fight. Four big men, the smallest of whom is three hundred seven pounds -- clashing. This was not a technical masterclass or a spot fest. This was four guys who are all over three hundred pounds beating the holy hell out of one another. Heavy forearms and clotheslines. Jaw-rattling slams and suplexes. This gave the crowd everything they wanted out of four guys this size in the ring with one another.</p><p> </p><p>

Yoder & Puder showcased some good, developing team worker, but The Rejects continued to show why they have been the top tag team in the Continental Wrestling League for quite some time. They used every dirty trick in the book. Clyde and Jakob stayed in it though and Clyde hit Keith with a big Patriot Slam while Jakob tried to make sure Johnny did not interfere to break up the pin.</p><p> </p><p>

What neither man counted on was the leather and denim clad February Malaise hopping up on the apron and getting Jakob’s attention. He was a simple minded man, after all. She lured him over and even planted a big honking kiss right on the big simpleton’s mouth. He looked stunned. Clyde looked stunned. Hell, Darren Smith looked stunned. This created an opening for Johnny Anderson to blast the side of Jakob’s face with a huge boot that dropped him. Clyde hit Johnny with a clothesline that sent him over the top rope. Clyde turned around and got caught with the Reaper Breaker from Keith Holly and the Rejects were able to successfully retain.</p><p> </p><p>

The Devil's Rejects defeated Clyde Puder and Jakob Yoder in 12:52 when Keith Holly defeated Clyde Puder by pinfall with a Reaper Breaker after February Malaise interfered. The Devil's Rejects make defence number 3 of their CWL North American Tag Team titles. </p><p>

“Tonight… Tonight I get back what belongs to me. It has been sixteen months since I last held the North American Championship. Sixteen months… Sixteen long months. It’s been eight months since I’ve called myself a champion of any kind. Tonight, I reclaim my spot. Ox...KC… They are incredible athletes. Incredible professionals… But tonight is my night. Tonight is for me and only for me Tonight… Just you wait and see.”</p><p>

KC Glenn versus “The Cornerstone” Riley McManus w/ Jeffery Aroma versus Ox Mastadon © w/ Lisa Bowen</p><p> </p><p>

The main event of the evening. The North American Heavyweight Championship. KC Glenn, the best junior heavyweight wrestler in the world. Riley McManus, the most accomplished wrestler in CWL, and Ox Mastadon -- the reigning, defending North American Heavyweight Champion who is looking for his ninth successful defense -- which would tie him with Riley McManus for most in a single reign as champion.</p><p> </p><p>

Also in the mix are “Ms. CWL” Lisa Bowen, the leader of Bowen Services and the manager of champions in CWL. Under her guidance, Ox Mastadon, Primus Allen, Atlas, the Gods of Thunder and the Ring Generals have all achieved championship success in CWL. Jeffery Aroma was also ringside -- despite his recent disputes with Riley, he had been a good bodyguard that had helped Riley hold onto the Heavyweight Champion for a year and have a long, record setting reign as COTT World Heavyweight Champion. Aroma was also the most successful United States Champion (though James Diaz did tie his eight successful defenses with the championship). This was a boiling pot of personalities.</p><p> </p><p>

Oh, who can forget that McManus and Glenn are former tag team partners who were former North American Tag Team Champions and the first winners of the Oxford Invitational. </p><p> </p><p>

The match started with McManus and Glenn working together on the near five-hundred pound Mastadon. Mastadon had well over two hundred pounds on each of them and Glenn and McManus were acutely aware of their need to take him out of the match. They showcased some of the team work that made them an exciting and successful team. They hit a double running knee trembler to Ox Mastadon’s dome that sent the big man rolling out to the floor and left McManus and Glenn in the ring.</p><p> </p><p>

They immediately went at it with one another, showing the same fire that they showed in their instant-classic match at Independence. They went hold for hold with technical exchanges. Countering each other and keeping one from gaining the advantage. KC eventually kicked the knee of Riley to bring him down to a knee and then hit him with a shining wizard.</p><p> </p><p>

Right at this time, Ox came back into the ring and took control. The near five-hundred pounder worked methodically. Big slams, using his weight to his advantage. Ox hit KC with a huge powerslam that sent KC rolling to the floor. Riley was back up and he came right after Ox. The people were coming alive as Riley brought the fire to Ox. He even hit a big headbut. The crowd stood up as Riley signalled for it -- the Slingshot Suplex. Could he possibly get the big man up for it? And he did. He bounced Ox’s ankles off the ropes and into the Slingshot Suplex. Ox’s bulk hit the ring and it sounded like a bomb went off. The people exploded with cheers. </p><p> </p><p>

Riley stood to his feet clutching his back. All he had to do was make the cover. Before he could, big Jeffery Aroma rolled into the ring and clotheslined Riley from behind. The crowd gasped in shock and Lisa roared her approval on the outside. There was nothing Darren Smith could do about it either when Aroma hit a huge running powerslam onto Riley. Ox lumbered back to his feet and hit the Ten Ton Splash to get the three count and successfully retain his championship.</p><p> </p><p>

Ox Mastadon defeated KC Glenn and Riley McManus in 13:34 when Ox Mastadon defeated Riley McManus by pinfall with a Ten Ton Splash following a turn by Jeffery Aroma. Ox Mastadon makes defence number 9 of his CWL North American Heavyweight title. </p><p>

Riley McManus clutched his ribs in agony. The Ten Ton Splash from Ox Mastadon felt just as nasty as it looked. Ox clutched the North American Championship in his meaty hand and hoisted it above his head -- at the same time, Jeffery Aroma -- the Headhunter -- rolled into the ring. He and Ox locked eyes and Ox shrugged his shoulders and exited the ring leaving Aroma alone with Riley. Aroma made a deliberate show of rolling the sleeves of his white dress shirt up. He looked down at Riley with disgust.</p><p> </p><p>

Aroma: I gave you everything! I gave you everything I had! </p><p> </p><p>

Aroma grabbed Riley by a handful of his hair and pulled him to his feet and blasted him with a hard right hand. He didn’t let Riley fall. He just held him up like a ragdoll. He punched him again. Then a third time. </p><p> </p><p>

Aroma: I had your back! You blame me? You dared to blame me for you being a failure?!?</p><p> </p><p>

Aroma slammed his elbow into Riley’s face. Blood was flowing from a cut above Riley’s eye. Aroma gripped Riley by the throat and lifted him into the air. High into the air. Holding him with one hand. He drove him down into a bent knee and then lifted him back up and drove him down into the mat -- The Complex Chokeslam. Aroma looked at his fist and looked back down at Riley.</p><p> </p><p>

Aroma: You can blame me for this though.</p><p>
