<p>Rocky Mountain Wrestling Live #8 was a success, but it was also revelatory. Art Reed’s body is past the point of no return. His mind is still there, but his body isn’t. I was going to have to finish him up soon. Have him put over some of the young talent before I let him ride off into the sunset. Joel had made his seventh successful defense. He was carrying the standard of the belt very nicely. I was going to reward him with actually having him appear on the Gold Rush show.</p><p> </p><p> I had made the decision that Gold Rush was going to expand to two nights. It wasn’t my idea, it was actually Michael Riggs -- my play by play man who was also doing a great job with marketing and advertising. He thought it would make the tournament seem that much more special, plus it would allow me to make it a sixteen man tournament -- which I did want to do.</p><p> </p><p> Adding sixteen guys into it would give me a lot of guys to use -- and would allow me to feature guys from other territories. This year, I was featuring two NOTBW guys and one 4C. I was bringing back Sayeed Ali -- who had done great in our first Gold Rush and I wanted to give him a little bit more exposure. I was also going to use both Duane Stone -- who just lost the Canadian Championship, and “Shooter” Sean Deeley. I was really hopeful that this would be the best set of shows we had run all year.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45989" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="font-size:14px;">Rocky Mountain Wrestling Presents: Gold Rush III</span></p><p> Night One</p><p> Saturday, Week 4, August, 2018</p><p> Live from the Oxford Arena, special start time of 7:00 PM</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Main Event</strong></p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Rocky Mountain Heavyweight Championship</span></p><p> <em>The Ring Generals and Cameron Vessey are banned from ringside</em></p><p> Sixty Minute Time Limit</p><p> “Bulldozer” Brandon Smith versus “The Evolution” Primus Allen © w/ Lisa Bowen</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Semi Main Event</strong></p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Rocky Mountain Tag Team Championship</span></p><p> Forty-Five Minute Time Limit</p><p> The Ring Generals w/ Lisa Bowen versus McManus and Glenn ©</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Gold Rush Tournament Opening Round</strong></p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Block B</span></p><p> Twenty Minute Time Limit</p><p> Duane Stone versus “The Second Generation Superstar” Cameron Vessey w/ Lisa Bowen</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Gold Rush Tournament Opening Round</strong></p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Block B</span></p><p> Twenty Minute Time Limit</p><p> Toma versus “The Machine” Brent Hill</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Gold Rush Tournament Opening Round</strong></p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Block B</span></p><p> Twenty Minute Time Limit</p><p> Acid versus “The Anvil” Mark Griffin</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Gold Rush Tournament Opening Round</strong></p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Block B</span></p><p> Twenty Minute Time Limit</p><p> “Mr. Impact” Hugh Ancrie versus “Intrepid” Ian Identity</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Gold Rush Tournament Opening Round</strong></p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Block A</span></p><p> Twenty Minute Time Limit</p><p> “Glorious” Logan Diaz versus Sayeed Ali</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Gold Rush Tournament Opening Round</strong></p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Block A</span></p><p> Twenty Minute Time Limit</p><p> “The Hawaiian Strong Man” Ekuma versus “The Straight Shooter” Joel Bryant</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Gold Rush Tournament Opening Round</strong></p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Block A</span></p><p> Twenty Minute Time Limit</p><p> Squeaky McClean versus “Shooter” Sean Deeley</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Gold Rush Tournament Opening Round</strong></p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Block B</span></p><p> Twenty Minute Time Limit</p><p> “The Man With No Fear” Sonny Wildside versus Marcel LeFleur</p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> The night two card was also pretty much booked. Thank you to him for his great work -- and for being willing to make said logo when I asked him. If anyone else graphically inclined would like to make any logos for some of our shows, I will definitely not say no! <p>That's a wrap on Gold Rush! It was suggested by theheel for Gold Rush to be a two night event -- and I thought it was a good idea from a loyal reader so I went with it. I was disappointed with the second night, but in it we discovered some guys who don't have good chemistry -- and the main event was hampered by fatigue -- it was their fourth match in two days, and third of that particular night, but all in all I'm happy with the tournament and I'm happy with how our summer ended. We put on some of our best matches (multiple C+ matches!! including Bulldozer versus Marcel, which I had no idea would get such a good rating) and got to introduce the angles/storylines that will be carrying us through the next few months with Lisa Bowen's retooled squad of wrestlers, the arrival of both Cameron Vessey and Casey Valentine (thank God for USPW having signed almost every major star from TCW and Casey falling down the pecking order -- he was also hurt for awhile so he didn't get used and no one picked him up when his contract was up because of the injury, so I've been waiting to debut him).</p><p> </p><p>

I hope you enjoyed the two shows! Again, thank you to KYE for the logo for Gold Rush, which I hope you all love as much as I do. It's got the old school feel that I've been going for with RMW.</p>

Logan Diaz winning was unexpected but great show, great tournament! Hope Diaz can turn this huge win into something big for his career in Rocky Mountain Wrestling

Called it, baby yeah! LET'S GO LOGAN!

I'm glad you guys enjoyed! I was hoping Logan would catch some people by surprise -- darn you Romanini. I've tried very hard to book Logan well. He's only lost twice, once to Primus and once to Joel -- though technically the Joel match was a DQ finish to protect Logan.

Initially, Logan was not pencilled in to win the tournament. I try to plan out the tournaments in advance -- when I'm sketching out the next feuds and I like to use Gold Rush to set up the fall angles. The loss of Running Wolf, Star Master, Angel of Mercy, and Boom-Boom Jamaica definitely made me change plans. I was going to put Running Wolf over in the tournament (he initially was not going to have a rematch in July) to set up for him to get a rematch with Primus later on. He signed with TCW and it created the opening.

Logan's been here since the beginning, he's consistently improved and worked his way up the card -- so I think now is the time to give him a good main event/upper mid card singles push. Based off the finals, I hope it was clear that he is going to be aligned with the other major faces in the company -- Riley, KC, and American Demolition.

I probably would have gone with Bulldozer or Findlay to win the tournament -- but shortly after signing with me they also signed touring contracts with PGHW and because theheel convinced me to go to two nights for the show, I knew they would not be available for both nights.

Casey wasn't originally going to wrestle on Night Two, I was going to save his in ring debut, but Allen suffered a minor back injury (he could have worked through it), but being that I3 was already working through a similar back injury and it really affected his match rating with Ancrie on the first night, so I figured the substitution would make sense and allow me to further set up the fall.

In other news, I'm looking to name Bowen's new group of five guys, which name do you all prefer [the group of five is Primus Allen, Casey Valentine, Cameron Vessey, and The Ring Generals]:

1. The Bowen Corporation

2. The Five Pillars

3. The Pentateuch

4. Something else?

Great Tourney, the 2 nights give it a bit of that Crockett Cup feel. Love the tourney win and big push for Diaz.

On the names listed I’d go with The Bowen Corporation because she is the constant and you don’t know when the others will get poached ( the wrestlers more likely to get snatched than Lisa). But I’ll give it some thought today as I wander around Costa Maya.

Other thoughts

The Syndicate

The Family

Bowen Family

Madame Bowen’s Familia or Family

East Coast Wrecking Crew (might be a good tag name)

I miss when she ran a stable of monsters lol but I suppose we must all adapt and evolve eventually. Bowen Corp gets my vote

[saturday -- After the Main Event]

i3MJlMR.jpg

Brandon struggled to take a full breath. It hurt. There was already the deep black-and-blue bruising that comes with breaking a rib. He had done it before. He was familiar with the pain. The pain when breathing. The pain when moving in certain ways. He sat down in a chair -- doing his best to sit straight. An ice pack was pressed to the back of his neck, one was pressed to his surgically repaired left knee --the knee that had been destroyed when a left guard went to pancake him and it led to it being shattered. He also had two ice packs pressed to his chest to try to reduce any bruising and swelling. He had not been diagnosed with broken ribs yet -- but he knew. It had happened before. He knew the feeling -- and this was that feeling.

cm1sAKe.jpgIhIR4AY.jpg

Primus Allen -- still covered in sweat -- and Casey Valentine, the newly debuted former Mid Atlantic standout and former USPW Television Champion were in front of him quickly. “Oh **** man, are you okay?” Primus asked -- very clearly concerned.

Brandon nodded. His breathing shallow and purposeful. “Yeah. Just the ribs. I’ll be good.”

Primus shook his head. “Man I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to. I know you got the flight to Japan tonight to get ready for PGHW. This is just. ****”

Brandon managed a smile. “Don’t be so hard on yourself, fella. It happens. You weren’t unsafe. Just landed wrong on the powerslam. It’s no big deal. How’s your back? I sandbagged you on one of those Germans.”

Primus shrugged his massive shoulders. “It hurts, but it’ll be okay.”

Brandon nodded and looked over at Casey. “Cool Hand, I didn’t know you were coming in tonight. Why didn’t you tell me?”

Casey grinned his semi-famous grin. “Rob wanted to keep it hush hush. Didn’t want it to leak. But I’m here full time now. Glad to be here. Seems like a good crew.”

Brandon reached out a hand and grabbed Casey’s hand to shake it. He grimaced from the torque it put on his chest. “They do have a good crew here. Couple of ex Mid Atlantic guys. Riley’s a stud now. Who would’ve thought? They’re putting out quality guys from the school. It’s like Mid Atlantic nestled in the Rockies. It’s great.”

“Seems like it.” Casey said as Primus walks towards his locker.

Brandon takes another labored breath. “I’ve got to get showered and get to the airport. Don’t want to miss my flight.”

“Nothin’ worse than that, big fella.” Casey helped pull Brandon to his feet. “It’s good to see you again.”

Brandon nodded his head. “Real good. It’s like we’re getting the band back together.”

“I did miss the band.” Casey said wishfully. Brandon nodded. He knew that feeling. In MAW, he had been American Patriot. Had held the Mid Atlantic Championship for over a year -- fourteen months actually. He had won the Rip Chord Invitational. He had been the vocal point until he passed the torch and left. In that time, he had formed friendships with Findlay. With Cameron and Casey. With Riley. With a lot of the guys. He missed them. Sure, he and Findlay had been in Black Canvas together -- but then Findlay had gone to BHOTWG and Brandon had spent time with GCG. Now they were here. They were World Tag Team Champions. Casey was here. Cameron was here. Riley was here. It felt good. Broken ribs and all. Brandon felt good.

He slowly walked to the shower. Walked to the soothing feel of warm water against a sore body. He had a plane to catch -- but he was already counting down the days until he was pack. Back with his team. Brandon knew that few things were certain, but he knew that he was loving being a part of the Rocky Mountain Wrestling roster. The guys got along. They worked hard. Robert and Joel were great head coaches. They were trying -- and Brandon wasn't going to let them down.

He just had to shower. And get to the airport. And get to Japan. And wrestle. And get back on a plane. It was his life. But he loved it.

She wrapped her arms around his neck and frowned at him. She wasn’t happy. “I’m going to miss you.” She said before burying her face in the crook of his neck.

He wrapped his arms around her. He was sad too. “I’m going to miss you too. It’s only for a couple of weeks though and then I’ll be back.” She didn’t say anything, she just pulled herself closer to him. Her face buried against him. He reached a hand up to rub through her dark hair. His cheek resting on the top of her head. “I know it sucks. I hate leaving you. I’ve gotten so used to being here with you -- but we have FaceTime. We’ll still be able to see each other.”

She nodded against him and pulled her face back. “I know. But still. It sucks. You’re going to be six thousand miles away. What happens if you get hurt? I won’t be there to help.”

He kissed her forehead. “I know, but I’ll be fine. I speak the language. They’ve got a great staff. They’ll take care of me and before you know it I’ll be home and we’ll be getting burrito bowls at Chipotle again and arguing which show was better, Deadwood or Rome -- or why you’re crazy enough to think The Newsroom was better than the first four seasons of The West Wing -- and how neither are better than Sports Night. We’ll go bowling and play pool and go to the gym and you’ll teach me about cameras and what a gaffer is and I’ll teach you about the Bronze Knight Saga and why Lukien is a very underrated fantasy hero.”

She laughed at his rambling and gently punched him in the arm. “You’re a nerd, you know that? An incredibly in shape nerd, but still a nerd.”

“Guilty.” He flashed that Georgian smile. That southern boy charm.

“I know it’s going to be okay and I know I’m just being emotional and silly -- but still, it sucks. You’ll be sixteen hours ahead of me. Traveling by bus with all the boys. I’ll be here, editing and producing content and helping my dad. It’s not the same when you’re not around.”

“I know, but I’ve got to. I’ll be with Brandon and Finn and Taylor. I’ll check in with you. I promise. If you’re lucky, I might even send you a Snap of me reading to you.”

She laughed. Hard this time. “Oh my favorite.” She said with a roll of her eyes. She looked up at the giant clock in the way-too-big Denver airport. “You’re going to miss your flight.”

He frowned and leaned forward. Kissed her in the middle of the airport. She pulled away after a few moments and smiled. She tried to ignore the wetness blurring her vision. “Alright. Go. Catch your plane. Let me know you landed safely.”

“I will. I’ll see you soon.” He said and he turned to walk away. He took a couple of steps and turned to look over his shoulder. She was starting to leave. “Marjorie.” He called out. She turned around and looked at him. He swallowed hard. “I love you.” It was the first time he had said it to her. The first time he had said it to a woman in… Well, in a long time.

She blushed. A deep crimson. “I love you too.” She called back. He smiled and then he turned and made his way to security. She stood there for a long moment. It was probably time she told her dad...

“Hey Dad… Do you have a minute?” Marjorie looked at her father. It was Monday morning. The beginning of September. They had just completed their biggest weekend to date. Both Gold Rush shows drew just under four hundred people. Logan had been crowned the third Gold Rush Champion. Her dad was riding high -- and she was about to tell him news she knew he did not want to hear.”

Robert looked up from his desk. He was tired. Two shows in one weekend made him tired -- and today he had to go over finances, he had to look for any guys that had been declared as professionals now that he wanted to bring in. He had to further set up for the Top Graduate Tournament. He had a meeting with Rocky Mountain Sports Network this week to discuss progress now that they were almost a year into their relationship together. “Of course, Marj. What’s up?”

He looked at his daughter. His oldest. She was so much like her mom. Smart. Funny. Determined. Independent -- and with a temper that could bring buildings to rubble. She moved closer to his desk. “Well… I wanted to tell you about something… Or someone… Or…” She chewed her bottom lip.

He leaned forward. “Something going on?”

She nodded. “See. I’ve kind of been dating someone for the past couple of months and… I thought you might like to know.”

“You’re dating? Really?” He grinned. His daughter had dated boys throughout high school and her first year of college and then he hadn’t met anyone since she was twenty. She could have been hiding them from him -- he wasn’t an overbearing father. Didn’t expect her to ask his permission. He owned a gun, but he didn’t use it to intimidate suitors. It was for home protection and was secured. “Who’s the lucky guy.. Or girl? Or… Person?”

She swallowed. “It’s a guy. And you know him.”

“I do? Is it that Williams boy from down the street?” He asked playfully and she gave him the glare she learned from her mom. The glare that said she didn’t want the playfulness right now. “Sorry. Who is it?”

“KC.”

“Who?”

“KC.”

“You mean?”

“Yep.”

“Glenn?”

“Yep.”

He took a moment to digest this information. One of the guys on his roster was dating his daughter. Had apparently been dating his daughter for quite some time now. “Does anyone else know?”

“Mom. Some of my friends. Riley. And people who were at the Denver International Airport on late Saturday night when he flew out.” She responded, shifting her feet.

He fiddled with the gold band on his left ring finger. It was a tick he had that helped him think. “Is he nice to you? Does he treat you well? Do you like him?”

“Yes. He’s very nice to me and he treats me incredibly well. And… I love him, Dad.”

Loved him? This was not what Robert was expecting to hear on a Monday morning. He pinched the bridge of his nose and nodded his head. “Then that’s what is important and what I care about.”

“Really?” She said surprised. She was expecting anger. Outrage. Or sadness at not having been told sooner -- but not this. At least, not as the initial response.

“Yeah. I can’t say I’m thrilled with the idea, but you’re a grown woman. You’re smart. You make good decisions. You know what you want. If he is what you want -- then of course I support you. You’re my daughter. I love you. All I want is for you to be happy.”

She moved closer to him and wrapped her arms around her father. He hugged her back. “But, if he breaks your heart --”

“Dad…”

“I’ll have to fire him.”

She laughed at this and kissed her dad on the cheek. He held her close to his chest for a moment like he used to do when she was younger and just wanted to spend every minute he was home from the road with him. Back before boys and jobs and grown up life. He released her. “Alright. We both have work to do.”

She nodded and straightened her shirt before turning to leave. She stopped at the door. “And Dad… I love you too.”

She walked away and he smiled for no one to see. Just for himself.

Our most successful month of our time as a company. We ran three shows, crowned a new Gold Rush Champion, and set ourselves up for the fall. We had two groups of five that could carry the vocal point of our shows for sometime.</p><p> </p><p> It was also time for the Top Graduate Tournament -- just for graduates of the dojo.
