<strong>Sadly with the Marshall leaving the Hazard Gang appears to be on the outs. I think the tag team should still get a spot in the Oxford tourney</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Looking forward to the Tag tourney. I have always been of fan of good tag team wrestling (unfortunately the WWE wasn’t and the art form has died off a bit). I was a fan of the NWA Crocket Cup so this has me intrigued with the names</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>

And Reaper, I loved your title belts. I used many in my games as well, but lost a lot of them with my old laptop. Wish you still made them </strong></p>

<p>Rocky Mountain Wrestling Live #4 had been a roaring success. The best one of the first four. Joel continued to be an excellent Can-Am champion Clyde, Johnny, and Keith were showing themselves to be standout trainees with very bright futures. Acid was being a great veteran mentor and his feud with the House of Stone was really making the show have its own flavor.</p><p> </p><p> All attention was now focused on the Oxford Invitational. My attempt to show my passion for tag team wrestling. I considered myself the greatest tag team wrestler in North American history -- I had held the tag titles in three of the major North American companies and in Japan as well. I held them with different partners. I was a specialist and now I wanted to bring that to the fans.</p><p> </p><p> In addition to the four teams previously announced, I was bringing in FCW’s Puerto Rican Boys, CZCW’s American Cobras, and CILL’s Viking Raiders for their first American appearance. It should be a fantastic show and I could not be more excited for it.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45989" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="font-size:14px;">Rocky Mountain Wrestling Presents: The Oxford Invitational I</span></p><p> Saturday, Week 4, April, 2018</p><p> Live from the Oxford Arena, Special 7:00 PM Bell Time</p><p> Also Aired on Rocky Mountain Sports Network</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Main Event</strong></p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Oxford Invitational Finals</span></p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Rocky Mountain Wrestling Tag Team Championships</span></p><p> Tag Team Match</p><p> Sixty Minute Time Limit</p><p> ? versus ?</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Semi Main Event</strong></p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Rocky Mountain Heavyweight Championship</span></p><p> Sixty Minute Time Limit</p><p> Boom-Boom Jamaica versus “The Evolution” Primus Allen © w/ Lisa Bowen</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Oxford Invitational</strong></p><p> Block B Finals</p><p> Forty-Five Minute Time Limit</p><p> ? versus ?</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Oxford Invitational</strong></p><p> Block A Finals</p><p> Forty-Five Minute Time Limit</p><p> ? versus ?</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Special Attraction</strong></p><p> Singles Match</p><p> Thirty Minute Time Limit</p><p> “Glorious” Logan Diaz versus Acid</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Oxford Invitational</strong></p><p> Opening Round: Block B</p><p> Thirty Minute Time Limit</p><p> The Celestial Bodies versus The Peak Brothers</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Oxford Invitational</strong></p><p> Opening Round: Block B</p><p> Thirty Minute Time Limit</p><p> Representing CZCW: The American Cobras versus American Demolition</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Oxford Invitational</strong></p><p> Opening Round: Block A</p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Rocky Mountain Tag Team Championship</span></p><p> Thirty Minute Time Limit</p><p> Representing CILL: The Viking Raiders versus Riley McManus and KC Glenn</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Oxford Invitational</strong></p><p> Opening Round: Block A</p><p> Thirty Minute Time Limit</p><p> Representing FCW: The Puerto Rican Boys versus Former NYCW and COTT Tag Team Champions: The Ring Generals</p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote>

<p>I watched the monitor with my headset on. With the improvements in our production, I could now hear Marjorie directing the show -- could talk to her to tell her what was coming up. With a flip of the channel I could communicate with Alvin in the ring -- on the third channel I could feed Michael and Herb lines if I needed to. I rarely needed to. I hated overproducing talent -- particularly announcers. Announcing should feel like you’re calling a sport. There should be dead air sometimes while something is happening. They shouldn’t do fifty plugs.</p><p> </p><p> We taped the show live-to-tape, meaning we did not do a lot of post production. We taped the show like we were airing it live. Within in an hour of the show finishing, Marjorie had the footage to the Rocky Mountain Sports Network and it would go On Demand. So we did commentary live. </p><p> </p><p> It was the second match of the night. Riley and KC defending the tag titles against The Viking Raiders. Uhtred and Ragnar were a good bruiser tag team from Mexico that had done really good work for CILL -- having won the tag titles there on a couple of occasions. Riley and KC were still young as a team. They did not have a lot of experience yet, but they had all of the potential in the world. Riley had in the almost two and a half years the company had been up shown himself to be the backbone of the roster. This was our thirty-fifth show. He was on ten shows in our first year. He was on eleven shows our second year -- including the Gold Rush where he wrestled three matches. So far this year this was his fourth show. He was going to wrestle multiple times tonight. But in thirty-five shows he had been on twenty five of them. He missed two shows our first year, one our second and missed one show because of injury this year. He has appeared on one RMW Live -- but that’s because he isn’t part of the crew I want working that show full time. He has wrestled every month so far this month for us. Since October of ‘16, Riley has spent twelve months as a champion. Nine months as Heavyweight Champion, one month as COTT World Champion and was finishing his second month as Rocky Mountain Tag Team Champion. He won the Gold Rush tournament. </p><p> </p><p> KC was a sensational talent. There was nothing he couldn’t do. He was a star. A guy who could legitimately be the biggest star in the wrestling and right now they were going out with the Viking Raiders -- who were only really known to diehards in this area. Riley hit the Slingshot Suplex onto Uhtred and he and KC were on to the next round. The Viking Raiders were a good team, but tonight wasn’t about them.</p><p> </p><p> Tonight was about building our brand. Tonight was about establishing teams that were going to be here full time. KC and Riley. The Ring Generals. American Demolition. The Peak Brothers were going to go to the finals so they could put over KC and Riley. We were going to come out of this tournament with KC and Riley as the full-fledged babyface tag team with American Demolition spinning off to work the Gods of Thunder. That was the plan anyway….</p><p> </p><p> <strong>[At the Conclusion of the Main Event]</strong></p><p> </p><p> KC Glenn superkicked Eddie Peak and dropped the big man to the mat and sent him out of the ring. Riley gripped Doug by his tights and lifted him into the air. He dropped his legs over the top rope and let him bounce up. Doug bounced high -- especially for a guy his size -- and it was a big Slingshot Suplex. Riley floated over for the cover and Alvin Lavin slid into position. One. Two. Three… The crowd erupted.</p><p> </p><p> Riley and KC were leaving as Tag Team Champions. They were leaving with the Oxford Invitational trophy. In one night, they had defended the tag titles three times. They had defeated regular CILL tag champions Viking Raiders. They defeated former PSW, NYCW, and COTT World Tag Team Champions The Ring Generals, and they defeated the Peak Brothers -- who were multiple time Tag Team Champions on two continents. They were a made team now.</p><p> </p><p> KC looked over at Riley. He and Riley were both from Georgia. Both had grown up wanting to be wrestlers. They didn’t grow up in the same town. They weren’t friends as kids, but they were friends now. They had met on the Georgia independent scene. KC, Riley, and Findlay were the shining stars of Georgia, but Riley had always been the least talked about one. KC was a sensational wrestler -- he knew he could go. He knew he could tear the house down any night of the week and that his performances were often the ones people talked about. Findlay was big and strong and imposing and had been dominant in Mid Atlantic Wrestling and then in Black Canvas Grappling and then in Burning Hammer of the Wrestling Gods. Riley had been the guy who kept the local scene strong.</p><p> </p><p> The first time they teamed together and beat The Hazard Gang, KC didn’t really get it. The fans really responded to Riley, but he didn’t really understand why. Not in an arrogant way. KC had been in Japan for the last couple of years. He hadn’t worked this territory. He had only seen highlights on YouTube and a couple of full matches. Tapes didn’t really do the live experience justice. The experience of being in the ring with someone -- that did it justice. </p><p> </p><p> KC looked over at Riley. They were only a few feet apart so he could see him pretty clearly. He was covered in sweat and several nasty welts. Riley had worked three matches tonight. Three different styles of opponents. The Raiders reminded KC of smaller versions of the Demons or the Lords of War. Hard hitting, but safe opponents who just liked to be physical.</p><p> </p><p> The Ring Generals were smooth and technical, but also physical. Riley had even taken The Ring Generals trademarked Wheelbarrow Bomb. The Peak Brothers were entirely different animals. They were products of The Piledriver School of Wrestling. They were legends for their work in DAVE. For their willingness to bleed and hurt. They were legends in Japan in WEXXV for their willingness to bleed, to make others bleed, and to hurt. They laid their stuff in -- and they were okay with you laying yours in. They had a war against The Peaks. Riley took a nasty suplex from inside the ring to the floor. Riley didn’t complain. He never did. KC understood now. In that moment. When Eddie hit Riley with a chop that busted Riley’s skin open. Doug laid several punches and forearms in that definitely landed fully. KC was used to that. He had been in Burning Hammer. Strong style was his way of life. Riley had never worked Japan. Riley didn’t complain though. When Doug laid it in -- Riley leaned in to it. He gave it back. Something had happened in Riley’s time in Rocky Mountain Wrestling. Gone was the really good hand who went out and wrestled but didn’t make waves. Gone was the number three of Georgia wrestling. In Rocky Mountain Wrestling, for these fans, Riley was their guy. He was them. KC understood.</p><p> </p><p> They held the trophies in one hand and the Tag Team Titles in the other. KC was happy to be here. This was a great moment.</p><p> </p><p> In the back, Eddie, Doug, and Robert were waiting for them. KC and Riley set their hardware down on the production table that Robert uses. Eddie studied them. “Y’all are the real deal.” Eddie tapped each of them on the chest.</p><p> </p><p> Riley and KC smiled and then were wrapped in the massive arms of the brothers. Doug, a man of few words, spoke. “I’m proud to have put you guys over tonight. You guys are doing great stuff here.”</p><p> </p><p> He turned to look at Robert. “Eddie and I would be happy to come back. You’ve got a great shop here. If we can help, please let us.”</p><p> </p><p> Robert nodded and looked at the four men. “Thank you. Just. Thank you.”</p><p> </p><p> He hugged each one of them. KC slipped away first. He needed some water. A shower. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>[Later]</strong></p><p> </p><p> The Oxford Arena’s locker room was empty. The show was over and guys had things to do. Car rides to make. Bars to be at to meet other people to go home with or drink or whatever. Guys were young and had a little bit of money in their pockets. KC sat in front of his locker -- a solitary figure. Riley had left to go to his RV and watch some documentary on his lap top. KC was in charge of locking up tonight. Robert tried to rotate who was going to arm the building and all of that. Something about responsibility.</p><p> </p><p> KC had taken a long shower after his match. He had let the hot water hit his body and relax the sore muscles. Wrestling three matches in a night was never easy on the body. Three matches that were very physical? Even more difficult. The shower had helped. The professional-grade BioFreeze was helping even more on his neck and his knees.</p><p> </p><p> “You did good tonight.” A soft voice said behind him. He didn’t have to turn around. He knew who it was. Her voice was like music to his ears. Melodic and inviting.</p><p> </p><p> “Thanks, Marj.” He said. His drawl heavier than normal tonight. It always got heavier when he was tired. “I’d say the same… But I haven’t watched it back yet.”</p><p> She laughed and it was a beautiful sound. He had never considered himself to be a romantic guy. He’d had something like four girlfriends his whole life. He didn’t idealize women. Not any more. James Lee Burke had said it in Black Cherry Blues, <em>“I believe every...man remembers the girl he thinks he should have married. She reappears to him in his lonely moments, or he sees her in the face of a young girl in the park, buying a snowball under an oak tree by the baseball diamond. But she belongs to back there, to somebody else, and that thought sometimes rends your heart in a way that you never share with anyone else.”</em> Maybe he did idealize women, or a certain women, but it was hard for him. In high school, he had thought he had found that woman, but he was wrong. They were young and dumb and no matter how much you thought you’d met the love of your life, it rarely was that way. That’s what he’d convinced himself. Until a couple of weeks ago and a trip to a Mexican Restaurant with a woman led to a trip to a bowling alley, to a movie theater, to another dinner, to spending most every night together in some capacity.</p><p> </p><p> He turned on his stool so he could see her. “Why are you still here? I thought you’d have gone home.”</p><p> </p><p> She tilted her head at him. “You’re still here. Why would I leave before you?”</p><p> </p><p> He shrugged. “I don’t know, I just thought that ---”</p><p> </p><p> She waved her hand through the air. “That’s your problem Kevin. Sometimes, you just plain think too much.”</p><p> </p><p> She called him Kevin. No one did that anymore. He’d been KC since he was a little kid. He didn’t even call himself Kevin in his internal dialogue and monolgues. He liked it. “Maybe I do.”</p><p> </p><p> “You definitely do. Get your back. You’re going to take me for a bite to eat and ask me all about how my night directing the show you and Riley stole went. If you’re lucky, you might even get to kiss me before the night’s done.”</p><p> </p><p> “Only if I’m lucky?” He asked with a smile as he stood up.</p><p> </p><p> She didn’t say anything. She just gave him that smile where she tilted her head down some so the focus was on her almond eyes. He loved that particular smile. She just held her hand out towards him. He crossed the room and took it. This had been a great night...</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45989" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>I had a strong desire to write some more narrative, so here's almost 2100 words that I worked on today for the conclusion of the arc to the Oxford Invitational. As a lifelong fan of tag team wrestling -- a man who is also excited for the return of the Crockett Cup, it was really important to me to put on a good show. It was also important for me to continue to develop the characters of my world, to continue to develop who they are and what motivates them. <p> </p><p> Robert, as my first person Point of View character for this diary, has been incredibly fun to write for. I haven't really seen anyone write Robert before in any of the diaries I've read (so someone might have in a diary I missed). I like to think that I've made him come alive in the electronic pages of this diary. Riley has been a fun character to capture from a variety of perspectives. KC, who has long been one of my favorite characters in the CVerse -- even before he'd blown up and become so good -- was very fun to write for this.</p><p> </p><p> Obviously, Marjorie was invented for my cannon and my story. I don't know if Robert's supposed to have kids in the official CVerse Cannon, but for me he does. And with his twenty years being based out of LA, it would make sense for one of his kids to have a strong interest in film and television and she has been a lot of fun to bring into the story and have interact with the world.</p><p> </p><p> Hopefully you guys are enjoying the narratives as much as the shows and are enjoying the building of the 'real' people that populate this company as much as I have had in making them come alive in my head.</p><p> </p><p> At the end of the day, I write the diary because it's fun and because I love TEW and I want to craft stories in a world or universe that I love -- and Bioware hasn't let me take over Mass Effect stories yet. You all have given me some really great feedback throughout the now month that this diary has been going on and it has been predominantly positive -- which I appreciate deeply. Maybe I say thank you too frequently, but I believe it is important in letting people know that I appreciate it. Plus, it's holiday time and I'm feelin' all sentimental and all of that stuff.</p><p> -Hist.</p><p> </p></div></blockquote>

<p>Nothing wrong with saying thank you. Thing is, we should be saying thank you more for this.</p><p> </p><p>

This has been inspiring for me, I just wish I had the writing chops to do full blown narratives like this but for me, small snippets is about all I can muster.</p><p> </p><p>

Anyway, not going to get sentimental <img alt=";)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/wink.png.686f06e511ee1fbf6bdc7d82f6831e53.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

Can't wait to see where you take this.</p><p> </p><p>

Thank you,</p><p> </p><p>

<p>“Age is a peculiar kind of thief. It slips up on you and steps inside your skin and is so quiet and methodical in its work that you never realize it has stolen your youth until you look into the mirror one morning and see a man you don't recognize.” - James Lee Burke in “Creole Belle”</p><p> </p><p> Joel Bryant did not know when he became the old man in wrestling. Or of the old guard. He did not feel old. At forty-seven, he was definitely not in his physical prime any more. That had been over a decade ago, but at forty-seven he still had a lot of life left. He didn’t feel old, but he knew he was in a young man’s game. It was a game that favored youth and he was on borrowed time. He understood why TCW let him go. They wanted to go younger. They had lost their top stars. They had to retool and rebrand and he had not been part of those plans. Kyle thought it would be smart, plus you couldn’t keep the old booker around and let him be just one of the guys.</p><p> </p><p> Joel had been the booker for almost a decade. Tommy had given him that role. Tommy trusted him. Joel had a good mind for the business, he did not get flustered, and he didn’t play favorites. He did what was best for business. He was fair. He was impartial. Tommy had valued that. Kyle had not. Kyle wanted something different. Ultimately, it cost both of them their jobs.</p><p> </p><p> Joel looked at the mirror and splashed warm water on his face. He had come to work with his best friend Robert at the end of 2017. He was working as the assistant booker and assistant producer. He was helping. Helping guys put their matches together. Helping work with the youngsters. He knew his time in the ring was coming to a close. He had more miles in the rearview then on the road ahead -- but if he could prove himself valuable here he could show that Kyle was wrong. </p><p> </p><p> He splashed water on his face again and then grabbed the towel to pat his face dry. He could remember his whole career. “The Straight Shooter” had never drank. Never done a drug. He didn’t even like to take doctor prescribed pain pills. When he tore his shoulder, he barely took tylenol. He just dealt with the pain. As a result, he had a great memory. He could remember getting paired with Robert before a tour of Golden Canvas Grappling and that pairing turning into a friendship that would span two decades. Robert was the veteran when they teamed up. He had been wrestling for eight years longer than Robert. He had helped teach Joel, helped bring him up to speed. Helped him learn how to pace himself and work a crowd. How to make the other guys look like a million bucks. How the greatest tool Joel could have would be to be a smart wrestler.</p><p> </p><p> Joel had always known he wasn’t going to be the star of a company. It had never been his calling. Sure, he had a run with the TCW Hardcore and the TCW International titles, but that was more as a reward for being a good hand and needing someone to keep it going as opposed to him being a star. He understood all that. He accepted all of that.</p><p> </p><p> He loved being in the wrestling business. When people thought he should retire when he tore his shoulder, he laughed it off. He didn’t want to retire. He loved the business too much. His love of the business had cost him a marriage. Made him miss too many family events. Sharon couldn’t take it anymore, but Joel couldn’t change -- or wouldn’t change. He was a wrestler and right now he was the Rocky Mountain Wrestling Can-Am Champion and he was tasked with going out with the youngsters each month and helping them learn. He was doing for them what had been done for him all those years ago. He took pride in that. He looked down at the table next to him. The lineup he and Robert had made for RMW Live #5. It was a good line up. It would be a good show. Joel would make sure of it.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45989" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="font-size:14px;">RMW Live #5</span></p><p> Saturday, Week 2, May, 2018</p><p> Live at the Oxford Arena, 7:30 PM Bell Time</p><p> Also Aired On Demand on the Rocky Mountain Sports Network</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Main Event</strong></p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">RMW Can-Am Championship</span></p><p> Sixty Minute Time Limit</p><p> “The Anvil” Mark Griffin versus “The Straight Shooter” Joel Bryant</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Singles Match</strong></p><p> Thirty Minute Time Limit</p><p> “Pure Athlete” Art Reed versus Johnny Anderson</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Tag Team Match</strong></p><p> Thirty Minute Time Limit</p><p> American Elemental II and Elemental IV versus Acid and Acid II</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Opening Match</strong></p><p> Singles Match</p><p> Twenty Minute Time Limit</p><p> Princeton Pryce versus Marcel LeFleur</p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote>

If I can figure out how to navigate the pictures when I get back from my trip, I might even do a dairy on here. Been thinking about it for awhile off and on. </strong></p>

<p>Rocky Mountain Wrestling Live #5 was another success. Joel has been a fantastic Can-Am champion. His match with Mark Griffin was sensational. We were gearing up for our second Fire on the Mountain -- a show I was looking forward to. Nate Johnson had recently left TCW -- and while I didn't much care for him or what he did to Jack DeColt, I saw an opportunity to bring him and Bobby Thomas in for a night. It helped that Bobby Thomas and Art Reed are good friends and it will earn me some points with Art to give Bobby a rare US match.</p><p> </p><p> The original plan was to do American Demolition versus The Gods of Thunder for the COTT World Tag Team Championships. Unfortunately, both Atlas and Titan were signed by TCW before we could do the show and Fred decided he did not have the professional courtesy to finish out the last date and drop the Tag Titles. I had to make a phone call. Fortunately, Big Smack Scott lived nearby and was willing to be the sub in partner for the main event.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45989" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="font-size:14px;">Rocky Mountain Wrestling Presents: Fire on the Mountain 2</span></p><p> Saturday, Week 4, May, 2018</p><p> Live from the Oxford Arena</p><p> Also Aired On Demand on the Rocky Mountain Sports Network</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Main Event</strong></p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">COTT World Tag Team Championship</span></p><p> Sixty Minute Time Limit</p><p> American Demolition versus The New Gods of Thunder[Atlas and Big Smack Scott] © w/ Lisa Bowen</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Semi Main Event</strong></p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Rocky Mountain Heavyweight Championship</span></p><p> Sixty Minute Time Limit</p><p> Puerto Rican Power versus "The Evolution" Primus Allen © w/ Lisa Bowen</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Special Attraction</strong></p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Rocky Mountain Tag Team Championship</span></p><p> Forty-Five Minute Time Limit</p><p> The Specialists [bobby Thomas and Nate Johnson] versus Riley McManus and KC Glenn ©</p><p> </p><p> Singles Match</p><p> Thirty Minute Time Limit</p><p> "The Hawaiian Strong Man" Ekuma versus "Intrepid" Ian Identity</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Opening Match</strong></p><p> Singles Match</p><p> Twenty Minute Time Limit</p><p> "Glorious" Logan Diaz versus Wesley Browning</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote>

I sat at my end of the table. Jeremy Stone and Sam Keith were at their end. The restaurant was nearly empty -- it helped we were at the hotel restaurant next to the airport in Minneapolis. Jeremy had wanted to meet.

Jeremy looked at the two of us. “Thanks for meeting with me here.” He said nervously. His eyes darted around. He looked older than he should. The stress of running his father’s company was getting to him. That much was clear. “I know it was short notice, but it really couldn’t wait.”

I took a drink from the glass in front of me and leaned forward. “What’s going on, Jeremy?” I had known Jeremy for a long time. He and I had once held the North of the Border Tag Team Championships. We were the second champions, had a good reign through the fall and winter of ‘93. We had bonded then. It had been what, twenty four years since we had lost the Tag Team titles?

Jeremy looked from Sam to me and sighed. “We’re getting our butts kicked. Absolutely getting our butts kicked. We have been for three years almost. Steadily losing money. Steadily losing popularity. The Canadian economy and wrestling business are in the toilet. You saw what happened to ACPW, CPWA, and QPW. All three closed. 4C is hanging on because Troy has kept it under a good budget. I don’t know how the DeColts are managing, but we are struggling. We’ve fallen to a ‘regional’ ranking by TotalExtremeWrestling.com. I’m worried that we’re not going to be able to keep the company afloat much longer. I can’t risk my family’s financial security.”

Sam leaned back in his seat and ran his fingers through his graying hair. Sam was widely considered the best promoter of independent wrestling in North America. He had great ideas. He was a great trainer. Mid Atlantic was financially stable and able to consistently develop new talent when their talent got raided. “You guys have been open 33 years. You can’t close.”

“I don’t want to close. I don’t. But -- when Vickie and Sean split, she hasn’t had the same creative drive. She’s my sister though, I can’t fire her. Sean left. Steve left. Duane’s been plagued by injuries. Same with Tim. Junior’s been retired and we haven’t been able to restock the top of the card -- nor could I really afford to compete to bring people in. I haven’t even been able to keep some of the younger talent around.” He scratched at his bald scalp. “If I close it down, maybe the rest of the guys can find work and I can do something else. I don’t know.”

I listened to him. He was in pain. This was his family’s legacy. They had started with Alberta and Ontario and expanded to all of Canada. They had moved their headquarters to Eastern Canada years ago, but the roots were the same. Jeremy looked tired. I looked at Sam. He looked at me and nodded. We were on the same page and we both knew it. “Join the COTT.” I said.

“What?” Jeremy said. “But.. Wait.” His eyes lit up. He realized the possibilities. When his company was bigger, they didn’t fit the mold. Joining the COTT would provide his company with some protections and security. It would provide him with a place to refresh his talent base by bringing in talent from other places. They could bring in the World Championship and World Tag Team Champions. For the COTT, we would gain the prestige of the oldest active Canadian promotion. We’d add the legacy of the Stone family. The authenticity that brings. It was a match in heaven. “That’s a great idea. I’m in.”

Sam grinned. His baby, the COTT, was growing. With the addition of NOTBW, we had probably the four best wrestling companies in North America. OLLIE, MAW, NOTBW, and my own little RMW. CZCW put on consistently good shows. FCW was stable. NYCW was stable. L-Ring in Hawaii was stable. We were looking strong for the rest of 2018 and the future. “Welcome to the family.” Sam said. We all raised our glasses.

Oh the possibilities...
