In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Franklin Rush defeated Big Bruiser Findlay in 24:46 by pinfall with a Smart Spike. Franklin Rush makes defence number 1 of his RMW Can-Am Championship title. <strong> C+</strong></p><p> </p><p>

</a></strong><a rel="">Franklin Rush pushed through the curtain and was immediately wrapped in the sizeable arms of the Los Angeles-bound Findlay O’Farraday -- Big Bruiser Findlay. The big Georgian grappler lifted Rush into the air in a bear hug that -- if he wanted to break some ribs with -- he could. Fin set Franklin down on the ground and looked down at the smaller man.</a></p><p><a rel=""> </a></p><p><a rel="">

“Carry the torch well, kid.” That’s all Fin said. It’s all he needed to say. He turned and headed towards the showers and Franklin ran his fingers through his sweaty blonde hair and looked at the Can Am Championship that had fallen to the floor in the bear hug. He picked it up and wiped it off. He had worked hard for this. He was the second graduate of the Rocky Mountain School of Wrestling. Sandwiched in between Jakob Yoder and Jared Peterson and Clyde Puder. Sandwiched between two titans and one guy who was a mess up. </a></p><p><a rel=""> </a></p><p><a rel="">

Franklin was the workhorse. He had sweat and paid every due to get here. His first title defense. He had beaten Clyde in March so that Clyde could make the main roster. He was now the guy on RMW Live. It was his show to carry. He moved through the locker room area. He had a long drive ahead of him to get back to his home. They were running further away from Denver now -- though he had heard they should have a newly rennovated Oxford Arena to run out of again. Tonight was supposed to be the last show of the contract with this building.</a></p><p><a rel=""> </a></p><p><a rel="">

Rush made his way to his locker. He set the belt down on the chair in front of it and stretched his back. He was riding with Bison tonight -- but Bison was already out at the car. He was anal about making sure he checked the tires, the fluids -- everything -- before the car ever started. That was fine with Franklin. Meant he could shower and change in peace. Robert wasn’t here tonight -- Joel ran this show and Joel came by to slap the pay enevelope against Rush’s chest. “Good work, kid.”</a></p><p><a rel=""> </a></p><p><a rel="">

That’s all Joel said and that’s all he needed to say. Franklin was a professional now. He was doing what he loved, getting paid to do it -- and more importantly, he was getting respect for his abilities. This was his dream -- and he was getting to live it.</a></p>

Riley McManus fills up the screen on the video. The Rocky Mountain Wrestling Heavyweight Championship is draped over his shoulder. The image is tight on him. Behind him, all the viewers can see is the Rocky Mountain Wrestling logo.

 

“At Wrestling Summit IV, I reclaimed my place at the top of the Mountain here. I reclaimed my rightful place as Champion here and cemented my statement that I am the cornerstone of this organization. I’ve been told it may have rubbed some people the wrong way. There may be some guys that are unhappy with what I did. I’ll be honest. I don’t care. I didn’t do it for them. I did it for me. I did it for number one. I did it for the guy who deserves to be taken care of. Riley McManus.”

 

McManus pauses and switches the championship from one shoulder to the other.

 

“I’ve been told that I’m going to defend my championship at the Oxford Invitational later this month. I’m going to have to put it on the line -- despite the fact I don’t think anyone here is worthy to have a title shot -- I’m a fighting Champion. So I’ll get in that ring… But I won’t be getting in there alone. Oh no. I know that I need to make sure that I have someone watching my back. Someone making sure no one tries to take advantage of me. I need… an insurance policy…”

 

The camera pulls back and shows that standing just behind Riley off to the right is a massive man. He’s got to be at least six feet eight inches and over three-hundred pounds…

 

 

“This man is my insurance policy. My new bodyguard. Jeffrey Aroma. He’ll be with me from now on -- to make sure none of the fans put their dirty hands on me, to make sure none of these other wrestlers try to take liberties with me. ‘Cause I’m the Champion...And I deserve to be protected -- and I know this company won’t protect me, so I’m going to have to do it myself..”

<p>I looked down at the line up for the second ever Oxford Invitational. This year I was doing it different. Twelve teams would be in it. The first round would be standard tag matches. The second round would be triple threat tag matches, and then a standard tag match for the final. This year, the vacant COTT World Tag Team Titles would also be decided in the finals. I was bringing in the Keiths, Greg and Matt, from North of the Border on a talent trade. I was giving the Stone family multiple dates on Mark Griffin and Hugh Ancrie -- two former members of their roster, for multiple dates on the Keiths. I was bringing in Ox and Kennedy from FCW for the tournament, as well as The Wild Cats from CZCW. State of Destruction was going to get an opportunity in the tournament.</p><p> </p><p> All of the former Grimm guys I had brought over were going to be getting looks on the next few shows. I wasn’t certain who, if any of them other than El Mitico Jr, were going to stay. Clyde was also officially making his main roster debut with a match with Ian Identity. We were starting a new era in Rocky Mountain Wrestling. Brandon, Findlay, KC, Casey, and Cameron were all gone. Primus was officially back -- but I was holding him off of this show. <p>I sat at my table behind the entrance way. My monitor on. Headset on. Eyes glued to the screen. The newly renovated Oxford Arena was home to the second annual Oxford Invitational. It could seat three thousand people now. We had brought in new bleachers, started using some previously unused space in the building, and had redesigned the layout to be more economical with our space usage.</p><p> </p><p>

In the ring, The Keith Brothers and The Ring Generals were putting on a clinic in tag team wrestling. The crowd was on the edge of their seats. I listened to the commentary track. Michael Riggs was on the call.</p><p> </p><p>

“Waldorf has Greg Keith in the wheelbarrow… Statler comes rushing in, but Greg rolls through and sends Waldorf through the ropes to the outside. Matt grabs a hold of Statler… BRAINBUSTER!!!! Statler is out and he’s the legal man. Matt has the cover. One.. Two… Three.! We have new World Tag Team Champions! We have new winners of the Oxford Invitational. What a moment here in the Oxford Arena!”</p><p> </p><p>

I could hear the crowd roar with approval as Alvin Lavin, the only referee we had ever had here in Rocky Mountain Wrestling, handed each twin a newly minted trophy. I had ordered new trophies special from Charlotte, North Carolina and the sensational work of artist willr0ck was paying off with these new look trophies. Each brother was also handed one of the COTT World Tag Team Titles. They each took to a corner to show off their new hardware. Despite being twins who started at the same time, this was the first time they had won something together. The first time they had achieved this level of success together. I was happy to give them the opportunity, especially since I had four more dates on them in the future.</p><p> </p><p>

Marv, Dean, and Lisa came in through the curtain. Marv and Dean had wrestled three great matches tonight. Lisa had become my most reliable performer from top to bottom. Consistently at ringside multiple times a show, never off her game, never a bad performance, was developing as a promo. She was doing great work. We shook hands as they passed and I took my headset off. We had done it. That was the best match I had watched here in the Oxford Arena. The best match we had put on as a company. The second annual Oxford Invitational was already our best show. We were continuing to get better as an organization and had really set ourselves up for the spring and summer. I took a slow breath. Greg and Matt came through the curtain. Matt was a little bulkier than Greg -- had put on a few more pounds of muscle when he was in Japan but both were in incredible shape. They looked over at me and they grinned.</p><p> </p><p>

Greg, “Thank you Robert. Thank you for that.”</p><p> </p><p>

I shrugged my shoulders. “I didn’t do anything but give you guys a platform tonight. You’re two of the best young talents in the world. You proved that tonight.”</p><p> </p><p>

Matt grinned, “Tonight, the drinks are on me.”</p><p> </p><p>

Greg rolled his eyes. “I don’t drink. You know that.”</p><p> </p><p>

Matt, “So? Other people do. And tonight, I’m buying. You can just have water or Sprite or whatever.”</p><p> </p><p>

Greg rolled his eyes again and the two brothers walked past me. They were feeling good. They deserved to feel good. Tonight was a good night.</p>

<p>April had been successful. The second annual Oxford Invitational was our best reviewed show ever. It was also our best attended. Now we were headed back towards RMW live #16. This would be the last show for both Sonny Wildside and "Intrepid" Ian Identity -- both had been offered and agreed to exclusive contracts with the DeColts. While I hate to see them leave, I wasn't mad. They were finishing up their dates and had each put in three years with me.
