I've been watching One Piece in the original Japanese with subtitles. I've seen all the way to mid-Crocodile Arc before in English. But I want to watch it all in Japanese to see it uncensored. There's a lot of differences between the two.

The English that's available on Funimation is uncensored.

Anybody see the new DBZ broly movie yet? I went with some friends and we all loved it, but we grew up with Dragon ball. Another moviegoer who was dragged there by his friends was baffled, and made that audibly clear at the end. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

I love all anime, but particularly anything with mecha. Robotech, Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED Destiny, GunBuster, GunSword, and Gundam 00. I also want to rewatch Neon Genesis Evangelion, which I love but have't watched in nearly 20 years.

On the non-mecha front, I'll watch ANYTHING by Miyazaki.

Got to see Totoro on the big screen in September, which was a real treat.

My wife and I recently re-watched Great Teacher Onizuka, which feels very inappropriate in 2019. And she''s got me watching Maid Sama these days.

Is there a good spot to start with Gundam? I used to watch G all the time as a kid, but I could never get into the original series or Wing.

I don’t understand Japan’s obsession with fan service. Especially when it comes to pre teens and teenagers. I’m able to ignore it half the time, but some anime have so much it’s hard to look past.

Dude.... Now that you mention it. Most of the characters are like 15 years old. It even shows their ages when they make their first appearance for the show. Straight up says 15 then two minutes later they are 99% naked & I'm just expected to sit there & say "this is fine." Spoiler, IT'S NOT FINE! WHY ARE YOU ENDORSING THAT?!?!

The worst part is it's not even a "niche" thing, which would be bad enough, but even widely loved and well known shows like My Hero Academia are straight up sexualizing children and it gets largely ignored because people like the show.

I started Full Metal Panic the other day and one character hands a picture to another character of a 12 year old and the guy goes “oh she’s gonna be hot in a few years!”

Like wtf Japan? It’s a good thing some anime have such good stories, but man, it’s hard to look past the over sexualized women.

That's the main reason I stopped watching Fairy Tale a long time ago. I liked the fighting but all of the fan service just turned me off of the show. Japan is a weird place. I love it, but sometimes it's really really out there place. My Hero is a really fun show. Thankfully it's not super other the top with the fan service. I'm sure it's there. I just don't notice it as much.

That's a kind of line that can get you on a list somewhere! I never watched FMP. So I don't even know what that show is about. Is it kinda comedy-esc?

FMP (as opposed to Fullmetal Alchemist) happens to be the source of my username "FullMETAL", so I'm probably a bit biased in favor of it.

As for the sexualization of children in Japanese media (especially drawn/animated media), my ongoing theory/blame placement for things like this is centuries of isolationism-induced inbreeding coupled (more relatively recently) with the WW2 nuclear fallout radiation poisoning (being passed down by those who've gotten exposed to a small enough amount to still have survived it and procreated, that is) that's been negatively affecting the brains of Japanese people (but primarily Japanese men).

Isolation + easy access to the dark side of humanity does not lead to pleasant things.</p>

<p>Probably best we change the subject. I’ve been making a list of anime I want to watch.</p><p> </p><p>

Anything anyone think I should watch? Preferably shorter anime(26 or fewer episodes)</p><p> </p><p>

I plan on tackling Fairy Tail at some point but would like to get some shorter out of the way first</p>

<p>It's over 26 episodes thanks to season 3 (plus season 3 is a little crap anyways), but I have to recommend Overlord. You'd think the main character being ridiculously overpowered would get boring, but it's so cathartic watching him just wreck house.</p><p> </p><p>

There's also Konosuba, which feels like a fantasy anime version of Always Sunny. All the characters are jerks in some way and watching their schemes come apart is hilarious.</p><p> </p><p>

If you like romantic comedies both My Love Story!! and Senryu Girl are pure wholesome joy. Especially My Love Story. My only gripe is that neither of them could resist the urge to make a swimsuit episode.</p><p> </p><p>

And if you haven't seen them already, I highly recommend Samurai Champloo, Excel Saga and Azumanga Daioh. Champloo is the underrated follow-up to Cowboy Bebop with an equally awesome soundtrack. It's hard to believe how well hip hop and feudal Japan work together until you see it. And Excel Saga and Azumanga are two of my all-time favorite comedies.</p>

I absolutely love "slice of life" styled anime's those are my favorite. But my favorite anime of all time is S-Cry-Ed. That show was like 26 episodes. It had a great arc IMO. Seeing how the main character changed from start to finish was always really cool. Plus it has my favorite voice actor Steve Blum in the main role as Kazuma.
