Total Wrestling: Grit, Grind and Glory

Recommended Posts

GREAT start man. I've read it all word for word. It'll be really interesting to see you take on another company within the cverse. and to lose arguably the top guy straight away puts your back against a wall straight away.

In my current save, SOTBPW get involved in big contract disputes a lot more than BHOTWG or CGC do, so it's interesting you went with those two companies along with SWF, USPW and NOTBPW, which are probably more obvious. If you had a preference, where would you like him to end up? It would be more of a challenge for you if he stayed in the US. But in truth, any one of the companies mentioned are threats to you right now.

One thing I wanted to point out, you said the vulchers are circling, but should it be vultures? I'm horrible like that.

My final quick question, will we see a 'product change' from Total Wrestling? I know your SWF saves are very storyline driven, and more importantly, character based. Will we see TW shift towards a more 'Sports Entertainment' focus?

But with USPW spearhading to the lead, SOTBPW and Burning Hamer rising and a SWF with nothing to lose, TCW became more attractive for a challenge, and I can't wait to see you you fare on this one.

You know, I don't know if I have a place I really wouldn't mind him going to. As you said, going anywhere will hurt us. He's, by far, our most over wrestler and we're going to have a massive hole with him gone. That said, we're behind all of our competitors; so, this is just another example of how we need to re-tool and continue to fight.

One thing I wanted to point out, you said the vulchers are circling, but should it be vultures? I'm horrible like that.

In fiction often, if someone is on the verge of dying as they walk aimlessly through the desert, the vultures begin to circle above them. They're waiting for the person to die in which to pick at the carcass. I know, delightful, huh?

Either way though, this is how I perceived the current state of Total Wrestling. Everyone sees the writing on the wall; falling to cult, losing Golden, Cornell is gone, etc. They all expect them to just die, but there is so much fight left in the company.

My final quick question, will we see a 'product change' from Total Wrestling? I know your SWF saves are very storyline driven, and more importantly, character based. Will we see TW shift towards a more 'Sports Entertainment' focus?

I'm straying away from the supernatural, over-the-top, craziness that tends to come with SE products. There will still be a focus on characters and how things unfold; as even UFC provides such a product (and they are working with real fights). Truthfully, I want to connect more with the tradition of wrestling while also giving a wrestler-focused product.

As time progresses, there may be some more SE elements that are added but they'll be rather minor.

Actually, I was quite surprised when he put up BHOTWG, but SOTBPW also wouldnt make sense, given that Rocky Golden, not only is a lot less popular in Mexico and Japan, but also he isnt open to work outside of English speaking North America (USA and Canada) so we can reduce the options to only those countries, and given his popularity as the third figurehead, behing Nicky Champion and Jack Bruce, he isnt going to sign for anyone that cant offer a guaranteed pay, so that leaves out ACPW, FCW, GSW, IPW, MAW, NYCW, 4C, PSW, his former home of CZCW, and obviously RIPW, as he isnt a developmental guy or AAA and QAW as they are female only companies, so the options reduce to five, CGC, NOTBPW, SWF, TCW and USPW, but we eliminate TCW as Rocky already said he is going to let his contract run out, so the only four viable options are CGC, NOTBPW, SWF and USPW, and this is where we are now, but we can speculate who is more probable to get Rocky Golden, first i would eliminate CGC, as they might not even join the bid against the 3 giants, but they could offer a contract if they were the first to offer to begin the bidding, but even if they bid a couple of times, they are going to have to let it go, as they dont have the financial resources to fight agaisnt the 3 national companies, they cant even keep their stars in written contracts how are they gonna pay Rocky, then I would eliminate USPW, if i understand how this is written, Rocky has one month on his contract, so the bidding wont begin right away, that means USPW will so their usual routine of raiding the territories, taking their champions and top guys, a consequence of this will be that by the time Rocky Golden becomes available they will have already spended a little bit of money on a lot of written contracts, but money isnt a problem, they are the richest company in america, but what might stop them is that they have bloated their roster, filling to much the roster is a bad idea, so although USPW could spend the money, after a couple rounds of bidding they will realize that spending so much on a wrestler, probably more than all their january signings together, when you all ready have a too big roster, and that his enter to the company could make even more impossible for wrestlers to get attention, and with the bidding not looking as is going to end soon USPW, will do the tactical move of retreating and letting Rocky go, that only leaves NOTBPW and SWF, here dont even I know what will happen, but here it goes, probably SWF will get him, as it has happened in every game i had when Rocky Becomes available, but NOTBPW needs him more all their main event scene is over fourty, they need a wrestler who they can build around and Rocky would already be the 2nd most popular guy on the roster, and the biggest babyface, given that the most popular wrestler is the Heel Steve DeColt, at the beggining of the game NOTBPW doesnt have a figurehead as the biggest Stones have retired and no one has taken the mantle, the only credible wrestler to take the figureheadship is Steve DeColt, but he is a heel, he would need to be turned face, and at least in the beggining of the game NOTBPW hasnt ever experimented with a face DeColt, or if he will be accepted as THE star in eastern canada, but if you have Rocky he is young enough to be there a lot of time, is popular enough to build around him a new main event, he isnt the best wrestler in the world, but is good enough for the standards of NOTBPW, they dont have to lose their biggest heel turning him face and having a barren heel side, and the feud builds itself Golden vs DeColt, with DeColt berating the fans as they received Golden with a heroes welcome and accepted him as the face of NOTBPW, meanwhile when he defected to NOTBPW they all turned against him.

TL;DR: CGC and USPW will bail on the negotiations, NOTBPW needs him more, SWF will probably get him.

Well I just like everything about this!

looking forwards to where it goes.

I definitely feel your pain around the board formatting, so keen to see how the PDF format works and goes down as that is likely to massively increase the chance I will return with another diary myself at some point in 2019.

Dude, Rhodes sounds so bitter, but at the same time he kind of has a point. His performance and in-ring skills are average at best. Sure, 100 star quality, but he'd fit better in a Sports Entertainment setting. He's not Tommy Cornell! It's just a shame you don't get like a 'transfer fee' for him, and aren't able to spend that on a guy who truly would make a difference to TCW.

Looking forward to seeing the current roster, as I'm almost 2 years into my save now, so I have no idea who did or didn't work for TCW in January 16. Ricky Dale Johnson, Edd Stone and Aaron Andrews work for me now ;)

I love the idea of being able to buy out a wrestler's contract either to release them or bring in from another company

The thing with Rocky in this version is that you can hide his flaws until TM. By that point his overness and improved ring skills will see him be more valuable. He's more of an asset than RDJ at any point since about 2010.

I don't think Rocky's value can be overstated. It's a huge loss. Wolf has to step up as does Ace, Peak & Sammy.

You need good rolls for these guys & your young guns plus hope to avoid time decline for guys like RDJ, Vessey and Human Arsenal.

EV, is this the default data or Derek's? Who is on your time decline, NBT lists?

I'm using the default data (with some edits to Total Wrestling -- mimicking the fact that they lost the National Battle in the first month; dropping to cult, less prestigious, popularity hit. etc.).

Time Decline

1) RDJ: 9 years past his prime. "Retirement" talks.

2) Brent Hill: 8 years past prime. "Retirement" talks.

3) Joel Bryant: 8 years past prime. "Retirement" talks.

4) Eddie Chandler: 5 years past his prime.

5) American Buffalo: Couple years past his best. Fighting a battle with his body.

NBT

1) Jay Chord

E-V,

This is looking amazing, my friend. It is interesting to see you taking on Total Wrestling. You know that I will have a front row seat for this one. Looking forward to seeing just who the standout wrestlers are in this diary. Though this will be more realistic in nature, you are always great in coming up with characters for the wrestlers that draw people in. I am sure that you will be able to do the same even with the realism of Total Wrestling. I have faith in you, my friend.
