[WWF 1991] Gulf War Wrestling

Recommended Posts

Background Information

Good morning/afternoon/prevening/evening to everyone that has taken time out of their lives to take a look at this diary. This diary is angeldelayette presenting his take on World Wrestling Federation beginning in the month of January and the year of 1991. I have done many diaries in the past, both Cornellverse and Real World. My latest diaries ended about three months ago. Though I may go back to them at some point. Those diaries are located here: [WCW 1991] Bischoff Era Begins Early and here: USPW: My Birthday. Though, chances are that those diaries will not be restarted.

I love this time period as it brings me back to my childhood. It is a wonderful time where The Ultimate Warrior is the king of the WWF, Sgt. Slaughter is an Iraqi sympathizing turncoat and Hulkamania is still running wild. I hope to bring a very unique take on this time period as we move forward. I am going to keep this diary as unique to the time period as I can. However, there will be a few changes made.

I have made a couple of changes to the schedule for the World Wrestling Federation. One of them is that WWF Prime Time Wrestling is now the 'A' show. This show takes place Prime Time on the USA Network for 2 hours on Monday nights. It is announced that it will be live every single week. The 'B' show now is WWF Superstars. All other shows have been removed from their show slots.

Inspiration

justtxyank - I would like to thank justtxyank for the hard work in creating the data that this diary is built from. I have enjoyed the hard work and I hope that I do this data justice.

jhd1 - A great diary writer and one that I go to for support again and again. He is one of my best friends on these GDS boards. He is also responsible for a lot of the graphics work that gets done both in the diary and in different games. I thank him for that.

Eisen-verse - Another amazing diary writer. He is another one of my friends and always offers good advice when I need it. His epic SWF diary, DOA diaries, PSW and the list goes on and on, have been an inspiration on everyone that reads it. I have definitely been inspired by his depictions of wrestlers in all of his diaries. One cannot help but to be inspired.

Cut Artists - I cannot forget these amazing artists that bring the real world to life. All credit for the cuts and pictures goes to their respective artists. A special thank you goes to these artists. If there is one that you see that you would like me to change the name to include/give credit to you as the artist, please feel free to let me know here or in pm.

Beejus - He is someone to whom I want to give some special thanks. His epic diary, WCW '94: War of the Thrones, is a definite diary to read. I only hope I can live up to half of what he has written there. Thank you for being an inspiration to us all.

Smasher1311 - Another predictor that has been with me for a very long time. I appreciate both his dedication and his comments when it comes to predictions time. Those comments are very important and can be a true inspiration.

KnowYourEnemy - A special thanks here to KYE for all of his inspiration and support. Throughout all of my diaries, he has been there watching my back and I am forever grateful for that.

One Star Bandit - You know who you are. I don't know who you are. But you still inspire me to put out diaries that maybe one day you will rate just a little bit higher.

Lexa90, BHK1978, critical-23, TheLeviticalLawKid3, 20LEgend, Bigpapa42, Emark, Tigerkinney, Rayelek, Midnightnick, RKOwnage, pennyone, 3rdStringPG, packerman120, Zergon, James The Animator, horseman4lyfe, to4sty, Warhawk8492, Kijar, The Lloyd and more - These names have been some of the more long-lasting names that have commented and predicted within my diaries in the past. They have been and always continue to be an inspiration to me in their comments and predictions. They always seem to stick by me through thick and thin, though some more-so than others now. Which, again, I do not blame them for their choices. I just want to thank them here and now for their predictions and comments in the past.

World Wrestling Federation

-We are on the road to the Royal Rumble this month. This night begins that road on WWF Prime Time Wrestling! As announced this past week, Prime Time will be live from the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey! It will be the first live show in the series and there will be more successive live shows as we move forward. It will be hosted by Gorilla Monsoon, Vince McMahon and Roddy Piper.

-The main event will feature two men who have an earnest dislike for each other. Back in May 1990, Earthquake attacked Hulk Hogan and crushed Hogan's ribs. Then Hogan made his return at SummerSlam 1990 when he defeated Earthquake by count out. Now, the two of them meet on the first ever live edition of WWF Prime Time Wrestling. Only one man can come out of this with a win and momentum toward the Royal Rumble. Can you predict which of these two men will win?

-The first hour will, also, see a very good main event match in the tag team division. We will see Haku and The Barbarian of the Bobby Heenan Family take on The Legion of Doom! This match promises to be one of the biggest hardest hitting tag team bouts of the month. The winner of this bout is definitely promised to move up in the tag team rankings and possibly get a future WWF World Tag Team title shot against The Hart Foundation.

-Roddy Piper will host Piper's Pit this week on Prime Time Wrestling. His very special guests will be none other than the WWF Heavyweight Champion The Ultimate Warrior and his challenger at the Royal Rumble, Sgt. Slaughter! Fireworks will definitely be ready to explode on this night with these two men in the very same ring.

-Roddy Piper is not the only one hosting a segment on Prime Time Wrestling, Brother Love will host the Brother Love Show. His special guests will be The Million Dollar Man and Virgil. These two men are scheduled to take on Dusty Rhodes and Dustin Rhodes at the Royal Rumble. What will these two evil men have to say about that upcoming match? Make sure you tune in on Monday night on USA and find out.

-Jack Tunney also plans to make an announcement regarding the Royal Rumble. What will the WWF President have to say when he makes an appearance on Prime Time Wrestling?

Non-Title Match

Mr. Perfect vs. Brian Costello

Comments: Mr. Perfect wins in a quick match. Looking forward to seeing his first true challenger for the belt.

Brooklyn Brawler vs. The Texas Tornado

Comments: Texas Tornado wins in what should be a good match. Brawler is one of my favorite jobbers of this time next to Iron Mike Sharpe.

The Warlord vs. Al Burke

Comments: Match to get over Warlord. He could be a great heel for you.

Haku and The Barbarian vs. The Legion of Doom

Comments: This would have been an interesting match to see at this time. Don't think they met until WCW several years later.

Rick Martel vs. Sam Houston

Comments: I think Martel wins although Houston would be someone who if he can control his demons could be a star in the midcard.

Barry Hardy and Bob Bradley vs. The Rockers

Comments: Rockers pick up the victory in a squash match.

Earthquake vs. Hulk Hogan

Comments: PPV Quality match on free TV.

Thoughts On Diary: Looking forward to seeing the schedule of PPVs as they are starting to try to add some more events. Seeing the title pictures and storylines develop as the Hogan era starts to die out and the Next Gen start. Curious to see who will get the straps moving forward. Hope this save makes it several years into the game.

<p>Non-Title Match</p><p>

<strong>Mr. Perfect</strong> vs. Brian Costello</p><p>

Comments: Mr. Perfect, IMO, was one of the best pure wrestlers of that era, and he had the charisma. It's a shame he never got a chance with the main title.</p><p> </p><p>

Brooklyn Brawler vs. <strong>The Texas Tornado</strong></p><p>

Comments: Ditto what I said about Tornado. He and Hennig left this world far too soon.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>The Warlord</strong> vs. Al Burke</p><p>

Comments: Definitely a squash match here.</p><p> </p><p>

Haku and The Barbarian vs. <strong>The Legion of Doom</strong></p><p>

Comments: Really looking forward to seeing how this match plays out.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Rick Martel</strong> vs. Sam Houston</p><p>

Comments: Martel was really under utilized in both WWF and WCW. Don't remember much of Houston.</p><p> </p><p>

Barry Hardy and Bob Bradley vs. <strong>The Rockers</strong></p><p>

Comments: The Rockers were one of my favorite tag teams, hope they get a good push as a tag team here.</p><p> </p><p>

Earthquake vs. <strong>Hulk Hogan</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Comments: I really, really hate to pick Hogan. I actually liked Hogan growing up, he was my hero. Then I found out what kind of person he really was, and now I pretty much despise him. Nevertheless, you're going to have a hard time booking him to go over cleanly, especially as the face of the company.</p><p> </p><p>

Thoughts On Diary: Really looking forward to this, as my WWF 1991 attempt got washed out. Mine was a brand split though, so I'll be interested to see what you do with the whole roster together.</p>

I have plans for the straps from this point through WrestleMania right now.</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="sportsfanmas" data-cite="sportsfanmas" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="46192" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Non-Title Match<p> <strong>Mr. Perfect</strong> vs. Brian Costello</p><p> Comments: Mr. Perfect, IMO, was one of the best pure wrestlers of that era, and he had the charisma. Thanks for the predictions and comments. I am in total agreeance with you when it comes to Mr. Perfect and The Texas Tornado. They both could have been so much more if not for certain timely things. Imagine them in today's WWE. They would be right at the top, in my opinion.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:GEORGIA;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:GEORGIA;"> So many people complain about Hulk Hogan but the truth is that most people were Hulkamaniacs back in the day, myself included. Back in the day, he did a lot of things for charity and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. But I'm not here to defend him because I know he's not a perfect man(that's Curt Hennig). I hope you enjoy going on this journey with me as we move forward.</span></p></div></blockquote>

Brooklyn Brawler vs. <em>The Texas Tornado</em></p><p>

Comments: <em>Ditto for Kerry....hopefully you can keep his demons under control because I was a big Tornado fan back in the day</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>The Warlord</strong> vs. Al Burke</p><p>

Comments: <em>Three for three in the squashes....I was a big Powers of Pain fan, not so much the Phantom of the Opera Warlord's solo run.....guessing you bring Davey Boy in at some point, since Bulldog and Warlord wrestled at virtually every event this year I believe</em></p><p> </p><p>

Haku and The Barbarian vs. <strong>The Legion of Doom</strong></p><p>

Comments: <em>It's gonna be stiff brother </em><img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><em> the Doomers go over....although if you were looking for credible challengers for the Harts (since I'm not sure if the Nasty's have jumped ship yet) you could do worse than the future Faces of Fear</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Rick Martel</strong> vs. Sam Houston</p><p>

Comments: <em>Houston is no Jake Roberts that's for sure....he's a decent underdog babyface, but Martel wins here</em></p><p> </p><p>

Barry Hardy and Bob Bradley vs. <strong>The Rockers</strong></p><p>

Comments: <em>Shawn and Marty keep rocking along here....until the eventual split</em></p><p> </p><p>

Earthquake vs. <strong>Hulk Hogan</strong></p><p>

Comments: <em>Huge TV match that co-headlined Summerslam only a few months earlier.....I was always more of a Warrior/Savage fan that Hogan, but he doesn't lose much at the best of times, let alone on tv......that and I'm assuming he has a showdown with Slaughter in his future, so this keeps him strong</em></p><p> </p><p>

Thoughts On Diary: Good to see you taking on the "F" after your NWA diary, it's certainly an interesting time too, so I'm curious to see what direction you take things.....and while I would have no problem seeing Hogan/Slaughter and Warrior/Savage at Mania (much as IRL) I would much rather see the stipulations reversed......Warrior vs. Savage for the Title, Hogan vs. Slaughter in a retirement match</p>

This is one of the most famous arenas in the world and it's only fitting that it's home to a show by the World Wrestling Federation. Our main event is a contest for the ages as </span><span style="font-family:GEORGIA;"><strong>The Million Dollar Man</strong></span><span style="font-family:GEORGIA;"> steps in the ring with </span><span style="font-family:GEORGIA;"><strong>Tito Santana</strong></span><span style="font-family:GEORGIA;">! Last week, Ted DiBiase changed his partner for the match at the Royal Rumble when he dropped his bodyguard </span><span style="font-family:GEORGIA;"><strong>Virgil</strong></span><span style="font-family:GEORGIA;"> for The Undertaker. Virgil did not look happy about that. Will that play any role in tonight's contest? Also, last Saturday on Superstars, The Million Dollar Man forced Virgil to walk out of a match against Santana just to prove that he can do anything with his money. Virgil is said to be unhappy about taking that loss.</span><p><span style="font-family:GEORGIA;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:GEORGIA;"> -The number one contender to the World Wrestling Federation Heavyweight title, </span><span style="font-family:GEORGIA;"><strong>Sgt. With the fall of the Soviet Union, Volkoff has turned his allegiance to the United States. He was part of a team that defeated Sgt. Slaughter's team at the 1990 Survivor Series. Thoughts On Diary: Liking this so far. Glad to see Undertaker sticking with DiBiase longer, but I still hope to see Paul Bearer take over Undertaker keeping him heel for longer. Looking forward to the Rumble to see who walks out the winner and who will be competing for the World Title. So many options for WrestleMania at the moment.</p>

Non-Title Match

Barry Hardy and Bob Bradley vs. The Hart Foundation

Comments:

The Undertaker vs. Shane Douglas

Comments:

Mike Sharpe vs. The British Bulldog

Comments: These first three look like squash matches to me.

Power & Glory vs. The Rockers

Comments: And here´s were my inexperience starts to show, I go with Rockers here but it´s more of a guess than anything else since I have no idea were these two teams standed at this point of time.

Sgt. Slaughter vs. Nikolai Volkoff

Comments: Slaughter had promo time on last show and that would suggest that he has more going on so picking him based on that.

The Million Dollar Man vs. Tito Santana

Comments: Normally I would go with DiBiase but I wonder if that Virgil storyline is going to affect this one.

Prediction Listing

Non-Title Match

Barry Hardy and Bob Bradley vs. The Hart Foundation

Comments: No Brainer right here

The Undertaker vs. Shane Douglas

Comments: And again.....shame, because Douglas was a decent little face back in the day, although he was probably better suited to WCW around this time

Mike Sharpe vs. The British Bulldog

Comments: Squash number three

Power & Glory vs. The Rockers

Comments: I know a lot of people have gone for the Rockers here, but I'm going the other way....P&G were a great team, and we're on a hell of a hot streak around this time, to the point that had the LoD not come in when they did I really think they could have been in with a shot at the titles.....their finishing move was tremendous as well

Sgt. Slaughter vs. Nikolai Volkoff

Comments: My lord I would have skipped this match, not a huge fan of Sarge, even less of a fan of Nikolai

The Million Dollar Man vs. Tito Santana

Comments: Should be a great match, but no way is Deebs losing here....although you have been known to throw a few curve balls in from time to time so I wouldn't be overly surprised to see Chico pick up a surprise win

I can say that Paul Bearer is currently on the roster. Whether he will come out as Paul Bearer or Percival Pringle III is still yet to be determined. I am actually a fan of Brother Love. Maybe that comes from being raised in the south. Glad to see you're looking forward to the Rumble. There are definitely a lot of options for the winner. I know exactly who it's going to be.
