The Kings in the North [CGC, CVerse '97]

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, December 1996.

George DeColt Sr., the patriarch of the DeColt wrestling family, owner of Canadian Golden Combat, and one of the biggest stars in Canadian wrestling history sat at his family's kitchen table. Sitting around him were his four oldest sons. Steve. Alex. George Jr. and Jack. Ricky was only twelve and was not invited to this family meeting. Also at the table was George's long time friend, tag team partner, and agent for his company, "Whipper" Spencer Marks.

.

It was six and a half years ago that George started his company. Based right here in Vancouver. He had been one of the top stars for the Canadian Wrestling Federation that had been owned by the late Ed Henson. He had been a stallwort performer who only retired when his mentor passed away. He spent a year working for Richard Eisen in America, learning about the SWF. Learning what made the SWF succesful, what made Eisen's kingdom grow and expand. He brought that back to Western Canada with a goal -- establish his own kingdom.

Dan Stone Sr. had beat him to the punch in opening up shop. He had bought the rights to Eastern Canada from Ed. He had been open for a few years longer and just like George, had a host of children to base his company around. The Stones focused on pure wrestling. Had an alliance with Burning Hammer in Japan. George was not a jealous man, not by nature, but he was an ambitious man. Right now, he and North of the Border were friendly. Sharing Canadian talent. The Stones had left Western Canada -- primarily British Columbia and Alberta to the DeColts. They had taken the rest.

The patriarch of the DeColt family was fine with that for now. He was fine to have a working agreement and share talent and protect his business -- but he had a goal... He wanted Canada to himself. He wanted the DeColt name to be the name in Canadian pro wrestling.

He looked around the table. Whipper was his best friend. Four times they were CWF National Tag Team Champions. Now Whipper was his number two in running the whole organization. Together, the two of them had all of the name value and name recognition to get sponsors and radio deals and talk TV stations into broadcasting Title Bout Wrestling.

Steve was his oldest son and currently his World Champion. Steve was quiet and mild mannered when he wasn't on camera, but when it was time he had all the fire and the passion. Alex and Jack were his World Tag Team Champions and Jack had been the first DeColt to hold the World Title. They were a great tag team and each of them were also singles stars. Alex had been Television Champion for seven months until they did the angle were Alex's real life best friend Dan DaLay had turned on him. It made for great TV.

Then there was George Jr. His third son -- inbetween Alex and Jack. George had all of the skills of his brothers, but had already shown that he had the best mind for the business. He didn't start in Canada -- he actually started in America. Worked in the Tri State area, worked down in San Diego for that Cliff Anderson fellow.

Senior took a drink of water from his glass. "I've decided to make a change. Whipper has been booking since we started. That's six and a half years. He's set us up wonderfully. He's got our top angle rolling, but I'm going to move the book from him."

Whipper nodded his head. He was in agreement with his best friend. He was burnt out. He had never planned on being a booker in the first place, it had just kind of happened. He was an agent. He could book, but was happy to not have to anymore.

"I'm going to give the book to Junior. All of you have good minds for the business. All of you are smart young men, but I think Junior could be the best booker. If I'm wrong, I'll switch the book. If I'm right, we're going to be the number one wrestling company in all of Canada. I believe I'm right."

All of the brothers seemed happy. Why wouldn't they be? It was staying in the family. Steve and Jack had no designs on being bookers anyway. They were happy just wrestling. That was their passion. Alex had designs on booking at some point, but Alex also wanted to learn the promotion side of things. Who knows, maybe in twenty years Alex could be running the company and Junior could still be booking? Alex also knew that in wrestling, you often had to cycle your bookers in and out to keep them fresh. He could get a turn with the book.

That was a long way down the road... For now, the family had a goal. "We will be the kings in the north." Senior said to his sons. "I like Dan. I like the Stones, but this country will be ours."

The mission was set...

Author's Note: So I've been wanting to do something different for awhile, something outside of my comfort zone, and for awhile this idea has been in the back of my head. I've not really played the 97 mod extensively. I've also never booked CGC and have stated before that the DeColts are a distant second to my love of the Stone family. I find their story to be compelling; however, and with their emphasis being on Sports Entertainment rather than pure pro wrestling, they offer me something entirely different than what I'm doing in The Climb or with DarK_RaideR in the Women's Wrestling Alliance. Neither of those diaries are going anywhere, but this is a story that I'm hoping to tell that gives me a different storytelling outlet.

It's also important to note that George Jr. is not a cannon character. He is my creation based off a render that the inimitable King Bison made when he did a whole host of DeColts. In this story, he is between Alex and Jack in age. Hopefully, with this being a 97 set diary, I won't step on any toes with booking CGC -- since there are a couple of CGC diaries floating around.

Thank you in advance for joining me on this journey!

Junior looked down at his ledger book. His father had given him it when he named him the booker of Canadian Golden Combat, effective January 1, 1997. Junior was being given free rein to bring in talent as he saw fit -- though his father would have the final say. That was to be expected. His father was the boss after all. His father even gave him a set of goals to begin with. Some parameters in which to operate.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="0yLqImD.png?1" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/0yLqImD.png?1" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Junior could do that. He could work within the parameters. He also had a list of who was said to be the Franchise Players. This was a list put together by his father and by Whipper before the book had been given to Junior.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="mWuaVsP.png?1" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/mWuaVsP.png?1" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Junior didn't like being on the list and he wasn't planning on building the company around himself. He would try to use his brothers more. That's not to say Junior wasn't going to book himself, or book himself strongly, but he knew that would create resentment in the locker room -- more resentment than just pushing his brothers. The guys in the back knew the drill. This was DeColt territory after all. The DeColts would have to reign supreme in the end. Eric Tyler was his top heel. His traditionalist gimmick was money and right now Eric Tyler's group was in a bitter program with the DeColts. Runaway Train was another top heel, but who knew when Barry was going to be poached by a bigger company.</p><p> </p><p>

Junior had brought in some talents that he had met in America. He brought in Emma Chase -- whom he couldn't tell his father yet, but he had started dating when he was down in the Tri State area. She was going to be his top heel manager eventually. He'd put her with some guys he'd met. Brent Hill, John Anderson, American Buffalo -- who was working as Morpheous for the Stomper, and Rich Money. All four could be big deals. He was also bringing in Sammy Bach, Flex, Pecs, Chris Morisette and Jesse Christian to help fill out the roster and the big signing was the guy he thought was going to be the monster heel of the future -- Vengeance. That was going to be their top heel in a year. He knew it. He could feel it in his bones.</p><p> </p><p>

He had offers out to The Natural and Bryan Homes. He'd find out soon if they were going to sign on the dotted line for the company. The CGC roster wasn't big. He had let go of Mammoth and Land Mass immediately. He was going to be phasing out some guys that he did not think were going to be useful in the long run. It was time for him to put his stamp on the company.</p>

I also wanted to play as a DeColt that I wouldn't feel the need to push to the top of the mountain like I want to do with the other three -- George Jr. doesn't have to be World Champion or actively in all of the main event programs like his brothers are going to be, but can do things with his brothers that I plan on doing.</p>

<p>Did you consider a DeColt sister, Historian? That might have also been interesting.</p><p> </p><p>

Regardless, I'm curious. CGC has been slowly growing as a taste for me as a sort of Von Erich influenced town. My fascination with post WCCW Texas has reflected in 2016 CGC, so I'm curious to see what you do with the equivalent of 80s WCCW. Have to wonder how far away you get from the Elite formula!</p>

CGC does not run the biggest venues or big arenas -- so they’re not using a crane, but they use the opening camera shot to give the viewers watching at home on Alberta on Air or British Columbia Broadcasting the sense that CGC is a big deal in Western Canada. The camera makes its way around the ring to the ringside broadcast table where Jerome Turner and George DeColt Sr. are stationed with their monitors in front of them. CGC uses the announce team right at ringside instead of back on the stage or in some far away perch. It’s not a fancy table by any means, just a wooden table with a monitor and space for them to have their notepads, but there they are.</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> Turner, “Hello everyone and welcome to Title Bout Wrestling! To see him do that to my own flesh and blood, to his best friend… Well, I almost had to lace the boots up once more -- but my sons pleaded with me. They want to handle their own business and I’ll let them. Their grown now.”</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> Turner, “Well maybe we will see some retribution tonight. This is Canada and the all American gimmicks aren’t necessarily a great selling point, but they’re two young white meat babyfaces -- and it helps that their announced opponents for this match are two of the most hated men in CGC -- former World Tag Team Champions, The Soldiers of Fortune. </strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> The Soldiers of Fortune made their entrance -- being shepherded to the ring by their manager, the leader of the School of Tradition, Eric Tyler. The Soldiers of Fortune have been the most destructive tag team in CGC history -- and that is a tall order when the Demons of Rage, the McWades, and the Lords of War have all been here. Their eleven-month reign as World Tag Team Champions is a record and ever since they aligned with Eric Tyler -- when Jack and Alex took the World Tag Team Titles from them -- they’ve become even more vicious. They are on a mission to get their belts back.</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> Chris Morrisette and Jesse Christian were out of their depth swimming in these waters. A relatively new tag team (and by new, we mean put together for CGC and not teaming anywhere else), they were clearly outmatched by the bigger, physical duo of Chance and Fate. Both Morrisette and Christian are still young in the business with nine years combined experience -- less experience than Chance has by himself. The Soldiers of Fortune controlled the entire match with Eric Tyler looking on. He looked very pleased as they made short work of the American Boys. Chance hit a wicked spine buster on Morrisette and got the pinfall victory for his team.</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> The Soldiers Of Fortune defeated The American Boys in 6:43 when Chance defeated Chris Morrisette by pinfall.</strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="7EqFCw6.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/7EqFCw6.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong><img alt="5E3fXiM.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/5E3fXiM.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="46751" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><img alt="YKeyTTx.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/YKeyTTx.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> After The Soldiers of Fortune win, Eric Tyler dismisses them to the back and he stands in the center of the ring holding a microphone. He is showered in boos and he takes his time before he speaks. He can control an audience. He understands how to work them, how to hold them in the palm of his hand. After a long moment, he speaks.</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> Tyler, “When I came to CGC, it was with the belief that this organization was going to be different. That this organization was going to uphold the values of professional wrestling. The values that were so evident in Canadian wrestling under the watchful eye of Ed Henson. Values of clean professional wrestling. A handshake before and after a match. Obeying the referee’s commands. Respecting your opponent. Letting the best man shine. These were the ideals that CGC were supposed to represent… Until the DeColt boys showed up and the ideals went out the window. It became about them. About whatever it takes to make sure the DeColts are on top. Look at me. I was World’s Champion. I was at the top of the mountain. For just under a year. Who took me off the mountain? A DeColt. Since then, they’ve done whatever they can to keep me from the World’s Title. They even let Steve wrestle his own brother. It should have been me. It will be me. The War started in December with Dan DaLay -- another man who is fed up with the constant abuse of the DeColt family. Steve -- until you give me the title shot I deserve, the war will continue. We will take what we have to until we get what we want. You have been warned. You can make it stop whenever you want. Just sign a contract to defend the World Title against me -- and then beat me -- and the war will stop.”</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> Eric Tyler drops the microphone and exits the ring while the camera goes back to the announce table.</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> Turner, “Those are very strong words from Eric Tyler. He has declared war on the entire DeColt family. George… how do you feel about this?”</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> DeColt, “He wants a match with Steve. I’ll leave it to Steve. He is the first person rewarded with an opportunity to challenge Dan DaLay -- the new Television Champion. DaLay makes his entrance with his new manager, Eric Tyler -- who is back out again. Tyler leads DaLay to the ring. DaLay is not wearing the Television title but is dragging it like it was the head of a fallen opponent. The spoils of war. DaLay tosses the belt into the ring before he rolls under the ropes -- he doesn’t step over them. He doesn’t have to. When he stands up straight and stares at Ted Moore across the ring, Moore knows what he’s in for and he doesn’t looked pleased by the sudden realization that this is not the jolly big man that CGC fans came to love. This is a man who was willing to turn his back on his childhood best friend. This is a man who threw friendship away for his own individual glory. </strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> The bell rang and Moore shot out at DaLay like a bat out of hell. DaLay is significantly larger than his opponent -- and Moore knows that. Or should. He’s not the brightest bulb in the box and maybe he didn’t realize going right at DaLay was exactly what “Iron Fist” wanted. He pummeled Moore. It wasn’t pretty, but it was effective. DaLay tossed Moore -- who is not a small man -- around like a ragdoll. DaLay is not the most polished worker, but as a bully asserting his will? Very effective. In the end, he hit a DaLay Down [inverted Piledriver] onto Moore and got the victory.</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> Dan DaLay defeated Ted Moore in 7:56 by pinfall with a DaLay Down. The looked like the stars of Western Canada that they are -- and the women in attendance were going crazy for them. Which makes sense. They are four young, good looking, All-Canadian boys. Junior rubbed the back of his neck. He had just gotten done being told by his father just how he could have improved the first show. He did not feature enough women -- that was the biggest knock. He introduced two new storylines to the organization which will definitely help with audience engagement in a storyline heavy product. He knew now though that he needed to make sure that there were good looking women on the show. He had featured Emma on the show, but that wasn't enough. One segment with a good looking woman was not what his audience was expecting. He had to do better in the future. He had just finalized the format for his second show at the helm. He was pretty pleased with it. He was advancing stories. Grace Harper, who they called Helen Wheels -- a play on Hell on Wheels, would be on the show. As would Emma.

Last week on Title Bout Wrestling, CGC saw the shocking debut of a facepainted monster identified only as Vengeance. He attacked beloved CGC wrestler and Canadian Indian Howling Dog -- who is sure to want some retribution this week. The School of Tradition ended the show standing tall over the fallen DeColt boys. Eric Tyler made his missive clear. He and his gang are going to wage war on CGC and the DeColts until he gets a title shot at Steve DeColt. Will Steve address this? How do Jack and Alex feel? We are less than a week away from Elimination where we are sure some of these emotions will come in to play. Find out live this Sunday on Title Bout Wrestling!

Quick update, this show probably won't be up until Monday. I'm moving this weekend and will be going without internet from some time tomorrow when I turn in all of the stuff to the cable company and Monday when the installers come and get everything set up. I also don't want to post the show as quickly as I do in The Climb -- I want to give more time between shows so that people can follow the story better, plus I want the television shows to feel more sports entertainment which requires a little more time for me to write anyway.
