RSC Women’s Bantamweight Championship: Maya Komagata (P4P#8, WR#3, CR#1, 12-0, 3-0 RSC) def. Katy-Jayne Paulson (P4P#14, WR#4, CR#2, 11-1, 3-0 RSC) via Unanimous Decision [Average]

 

- Second successful title defense for Maya Komagata, even if the fight itself wasn’t as exciting as she, fans or RSC officials may have been hoping for. Pressuring her opponent with her strikes, Komagata was unable to score the big head kick she was hunting for, but that did not distract her from scoring points on the way. Paulson’s approach was to give the champion minimal room to work with and lock up with her, she was however unable to take her down where she could use her BJJ background and instead had to settle for standing clinches and controlling Komagata against the cage. The fight almost saw a decisive finish in the third round when a killer head kick connected with Paulson’s head, but she was saved by the bell before Komagata could finish her off with strikes.

 

- Boxing versus Muay Thai as Hanif Hussain and Manny Van Post met again after the Indian fighter won their first contest by unanimous decision at RSC 17: Burgess vs dos Santos in 2003. Van Post surprised everyone by hitting a takedown by the end of round one and he did so again in round two, a decision that may have swung judges in his favor. Hussain played it straight, unlike his opponent who also threw some blows from the muay thai clinch before the end of their match and given the way their match ended, a third contest is almost certain to ensue some time in the future.

 

- An all-Brazilian case in the Women’s Flyweight division, Carina Costa exploded into action against her opponent and just would not be denied in her takedown effort, but neither could she turn it into a clean finish either. Maria Ferraz entered round two with her tactics adjusted to pressure Costa through her striking, but once Costa found an opening it was down to the mat again and after a failed attempt at an arm triangle, the kimura got her the much sought for submission.

 

- Carl Ratcliffe and Edu Gattai refused to touch gloves at first but by the end of their fight, they had nothing but respect for each other as they shook hands. Ratcliffe got the 25th win of his career by scoring points with an ever-changing approach of kicks and punches to the head, body and legs that kept Gattai guessing, although he did also attempt a couple of head kicks for a finish. The Brazilian applied a defensive gameplan, looking to catch a leg or shoot for a takedown that would allow him to score points on the ground, but it wasn’t enough to convince the judges who scored it 29:28 in favour of his opponent.

 

- Laia Leele showed how far she’s come as a fighter, adding some good ground and submission defense to her arsenal on top of her kicks, but sadly it wasn’t enough against Haley Lovebond. The Texan was prepared and caught a couple of kicks to take things to the ground. Although her blows were initially not enough nor could she lock in the RNC, the damage was done and by round two she had Leele pinned down and eating punches without being able to offer any defense, forcing the referee to jump in and call for the TKO.

With barely two and a half years in operation and less than 50 shows to their name, Red Star Combat already have a solid track record for big names and exciting fights, leading Blurcat.com to re-classify them as a Mid Level Regional promotion. Retired MMA fighter and Red Star Combat CEO Konstantinos Choropas is said to be thrilled at his company's growth and RSC's recent addition of new lower weight classes sure seems to reflect their rapid expansion.

- Nora "One-Shot" Bethlen needed more than a single shot to get the job done, but she literally kicked Rachel McGuiness into retirement! After missing with a few big right hands, she was able to connect with a big head kick that sent the defending champion reeling. A second kick to the head knocked McGuiness down and Bethlen transitioned to the mount to batter her opponent with a few big right hands, before the referee jumped in to stop her. Winner and new RSC Women’s Featherweight Champion, Nora Bethlen!</p><p> </p><p>

- A hot rivalry coming to a head in the co-main event, with Spain's Saul Cervantes storming the first round. Despite three glancing head kicks and three scything kicks to the legs of his opponent, Cervantes was unable to rock him and paid for it. Having figured out his opponent, Jay Dorridge confidently stepped in by the middle of the second round to drive Cervantes against the cage and bring him down with a beautiful judo throw so he could work his way towards the armbar and tap.</p><p> </p><p>

- Antanas Kucera left RSC on a high note with a victory over his compatriot, Antanas Jankovic. After a couple of minutes trading blows, Kucera shot for the takedown and spent the rest of the opening round on top, delivering some nasty elbows that busted his opponent's face wide open. Not changing his tactics, Kucera shot once more in the second round but Jancovic was prepared and defended with a great sprawl. What he couldn't defend against though was the battering he took from his opponent, who backed him against the cage with a big right hook and got him all shelled up with a second until he was unable to defend himself and lost via TKO.</p><p> </p><p>

- A show stealing fight in the Light Heavyweight division, a dramatic striking contest that looked like it was headed to a judge decision, before Rokas Fyodorov turned things around and ended it decisively with an unusual submission hold. The two men had a long and intense fight that drained their gas tanks fast while kicks to the legs had them both wobbling as soon as the end of the first round. By the middle of round three, Fyodorov switched gears and managed to slam his opponent to the mat, only for Popov to attempt an elevator sweep that had them both scrambling. This backfired, as Popov ended all turtled up and facing Fyodorov, who went for a Peruvian Necktie that got him the tap.</p><p> </p><p>

- Osvald Kikkas didn't have the return he may have wished for after his injury, but he still put on a valiant effort against Esteban Vega. The Mexican proved he can trade leather as well as defend against takedowns, eventually creating an opening for a big right head kick that knocked Kikkas down for the subsequent TKO.</p><p> </p><p>

Quick update on this, I had a corrupt file mess with the memory card I had WMMA5 installed on, so the save got messed up and I had no backup. As such, this diary is unable to continue, but thanks for reading so far and I hope you enjoyed!
