<strong>RSC Welterweight Championship: </strong><img alt="EJfWgKs.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/EJfWgKs.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> Fukusaburu Hirano (WR#19, CR#1, 17-3-1, 2-0 RSC) def. <img alt="HcKi2yu.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/HcKi2yu.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> Dominykas Jankovic (CR#2, 15-6, 2-1 RSC) via Unanimous Decision [Decent] [Jankovic broke his nose in the fight]</p><p> </p><p>

- Meeting Jankovic once more after RSC 15 where Hirano got a win via split decision, this one would be Hirano’s final RSC fight and he came into it as a huge favourite but couldn’t quite get the job done, especially in the first half. He tried to trap the arm several times in the opening round, connected with a big head kick in the second and even broke his opponent’s nose in the third, but Jankovic just would not give up. Despite winning fans over with his sheer toughness and giving the departing champion a tough fight, Jankovic just couldn’t convince the judges and they decided in favor of Hirano after the full 5 rounds. Hirano leaves RSC for ALPHA-1 as the champion and the title has been vacated after the show.</p><p> </p><p>

- Finally clashing after a long war of words, former RSC Middleweight champion Shaun Dico and the undefeated Esteban Vega met for a somewhat underwhelming fight, but certainly one that justified Dico’s nickname. The Tenacious one completed every takedown attempt he went for (and he went for a lotof them) but never managed to decisively finish off his opponent. It was a pretty once sided situation however, so the judges were in easy and full agreement in favor of the Danish grappler, who may well be gunning to reclaim gold after this victory.</p><p> </p><p>

- Foggy Lee entered his match with a 6” reach advantage and the odds overwhelmingly in his favour, but Ronaldo Freitas made him work for the win thanks to his spectacular ground defense. After two rounds of struggling, Lee apparently figured it out during the break and once the final round began, he unceremoniously took Freitas down once again to slap on the kimura for a tap.</p><p> </p><p>

- Return to form for India’s Daljit Samir, who peppered Natasha Mellow with punches in the opening round just long enough to daze her so she could deliver a murderous knee for the knockout in the second.</p><p> </p><p>

- A sleeper of an opening fight as Lithuanian Super Heavyweights Sigauskas and Blekaitis clashed after the former had previously won via unanimous decision to spark a bitter feud leading to this rematch. Not only was it even worse than the original, with the two big men just muscling each other against the cage, it also ended on a split decision this time with Blekaitis getting the equalizer. Does anyone even want to see a third chapter of this?</p><p> </p><p>

- A real gem of a fight hidden in the show’s undercard, Leia Leele’s buzzer-beater come-from-behind shock victory nearly stole the show as she survived three brutal rounds against Tilly Hall with cuts that almost exposed the bone of her skull only to connect with a head kick just seconds before the timer ran out!</p><p> </p><p>

Fukusabaru Hirano:</strong> <em>"He gave me a tough fight, but I came out on top. I'm glad to wrap this up as champion and move on to bigger and better things."</em></p><p>

<strong>Shaun Dico:</strong> <em>"Your 'Flying V' is undefeated no more. I'm coming back to reclaim my title!"</em></p><p>

<strong>Daljit Samir:</strong> <em>”Manami Ken, you better watch out. I’m coming for you next!”</em></p><p>

<strong>Mahak Kirakosyan:</strong> <em>”You know who I want to fight next. I’ve called out that coward Tomasz Petrov before but he keeps avoiding me because he knows he’s going to lose if he steps in here with me!”</em></p><p>

<strong>Laia Leele:</strong> <em>”Never, ever count me out. Put me in the cage with that fake ex-champion Regia de Avila, I’m going to destroy her!”</em></p>

<strong>RSC Lightweight Championship:</strong> <img alt="Kvh8oYR.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Kvh8oYR.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> Georges Nouri (WR#6, CR#1, 17-3, 2-0 RSC) def. <img alt="EJfWgKs.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/EJfWgKs.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> Fumiaki Hayashi (CR#2, 20-11, 0-2 RSC) via Submission (RNC) – Round 1 (2:35) [Great]</p><p> </p><p>

- Could third time finally be the charm for Fumiaki Hayashi? Absolutely not if Georges Nouri has anything to say about it! After defending his Japanese challenger in decisive fashion twice before, Nouri made short work of him yet again by quickly forcing him against the cage, slamming him down with an impressive suplex and sinking the hooks in for the choke. Game, set and match, Georges Nouri.</p><p> </p><p>

- The co-main event, dubbed “The Battle of the Baltic” due to its Estonian and Belarussian participants, did not live up to its catchy title, with Kikkas starting strong by taking down Alexievich but never managing to find an answer for his opponent’s supreme ground defense. Things only went down after that exciting start, with the two fighters grappling it out but never really going anywhere other than the judges.</p><p> </p><p>

- Dabrowski vs Robinson was also, in the words of the winner himself, a “stinker” that was mostly spent in the clinch and dirty boxing. Surely a match whose participants as well as RSC will be hoping is quickly forgotten.</p><p> </p><p>

- RSC’s Super Heavyweight division has never really managed to impress and the opening contest was no different, things however took a dramatic turn against Fred Goggins after he seemed to damage his wrist. After also getting a broken nose and with one eye almost swollen shut, Goggins put on a brave fight and although he never had a chance to win on the judges’ scorecards, he still earned the respect of fans and his opponents simply by surviving against such a predicament.</p><p> </p><p>

RSC Ligh Heavytweight Championship: 8AjE4Pf.png Hyun-Shik Lim (WR#15, CR#2, 17-3, 1-0 RSC) def. qYGvcU9.png Carlos dos Santos (WR#23, CR#1, 18-6, 3-0 RSC) via TKO (Strikes) – Round 2 (0:43) [Good]

- He may have only fought (and won) a single fight in RSC, but Hyun-Sjik Lim’s name value alone was enough to land him a main event title match, of which he made the best of, defeating Carlos dos Santos for the strap. After a round of working on his opponent’s legs and body with kicks, Lim had the defending champion limping by the end of round one, which in turn lowered his defenses for the North Korean to zone in and get the win early in the second.

- It may not be the hottest feud in RSC, but Sjolin vs Kaczmarek is certainly one of the longest. With Kaczmarek giving Sjolin her first career loss to retain the RSC Women’s Featherweight title back in July of 2002, Sweden’s “Iron Chef” was out for redemption and she finally got it over a year later. Although the match itself was nothing exciting, spent mostly grappling each other against the cage, the finish was quite unusual with a takedown attempt ending up in something of a headlock. Quickly shaking the cobwebs from her eyes, Sjolin pounded away with shots from the side to the head of her opponent, with the referee soon forced to jump in and declare a TKO victory for her.

- After months of trading insults, Benoit LeMarche and Saul Cervantes finally traded blows as well inside the cage, with the cocky Spaniard pulling of a surprise win when he caught his opponent’s arm from the bottom of the guard, just as LeMarche was attempting to get past it, and into an armbar for the submission.

- Last time she made an appearance for RSC, Rennaya Rives lost both her undefeated streak and a title match to Trish Biel. Whether that motivated her or she simply needed to vent her frustrations, Croatia’s Tatjana Vinnick paid the price. The Brazilian fighter took her down with a big left swing in the opening round but couldn’t finish her off, a mistake she did not make twice as she managed to get the TKO on round two.

- Jonas Jankowski returned after his debut submission win over Willem Van Ommen at RSC 26: dos Santos vs Piquet to pick up another one, this time over French kickboxer Maurice Braudel. Jankowski just suplexed him onto the cage as soon as their fight began and then applied a guillotine for the tap to further shoot up the ranks while Braudel, now at a 0-3 losing streak in RSC, would do well to worry about his future with the company.

Fight of the Night: Cervantes vs LeMarche

KO of the Night: Ivanov vs Petrovic

Submission of the Night: Cervantes vs LeMarche

Post-Fight

Hyun-Shik Lim: "Big moment. One of the biggest in my career."

Annika Sjolin: ”Ugh, feels so good to finally get this in my rearview mirror. Maja Krawczyk is my next dream opponent, she better get prepared because I’m coming for her.”

Saul Cervantes: ”Give me Jay Dorridge -any time, any place- and I’m going to embarrass him, just like I did with LeMarche tonight.”

Rennaya Rives: ”Next fight, huh? I dunno, think trading blows with Helena Broderick would be pretty cool, but whatever the powers that be decide for me, I’m down with it.”

Jonas Jankowski: ”First fight, Rear Naked Choke. Second fight, Guillotine. The writing’s on the wall. I can and I will choke out anyone who gets in the cage with me.”

<strong>RSC Women’s Bantamweight Championship:</strong> <img alt="EJfWgKs.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/EJfWgKs.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> Maya Komagata (P4P#7, WR#3, CR#1, 11-0, 2-0 RSC) def. <img alt="Z9K0aSm.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Z9K0aSm.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> Katarzyna Wojchiechowska (P4P#14, WR#4, CR#2, 10-1, 3-0 RSC) via Unanimous Decision [Good]</p><p> </p><p>

- Poland’s Katarzyna Wojchiechowska got her title match at long last and went into it strong, delivering kicks to her opponent’s legs and body as well as some big right hooks but failing to make any significant progress. Komagata took her shots with high kicks aiming for the head but nothing seemed to rock her challenger either. With little progress made, the challenger showed the first signs of exhaustion halfway into the fight and paid for it with a big head kick but to her credit, survived it to keep fighting. From that point on, the defending champion, who was also quite hurt to keep headhunting, switched to a clinch and controlled most of it with short strikes for the rest of the match, convincing the judges to deem her the winner by unanimous decision.</p><p> </p><p>

- "The Second Generation Star” Roope Kuqi finally made his RSC debut in the semi main event and was surprisingly good against Moldova’s Mugur Boc, with both fighters showcasing some great wrestling skills as they struggled to top each other. Takedowns were hard to score for either fighter and even then, their ground defense made it hard to score anything but Boc finally found a way through in the final round, getting the leglock to win and give Kuqi his first ever career loss.</p><p> </p><p>

- Aldona Dvorak got a warm reception but her hometown advantage wasn’t enough to carry her to victory. She and eventual winner Zofia Ivanov spent all three rounds smothering each other against the cage while trading elbows and knees until it was time for the judges to call this.</p><p> </p><p>

- Another unspectacular Super Heavyweight fight, this one exposed both competitors’ atrocious cardio already from the opening round. To their credit, Snettisham and Klyushev were able to stand and bang for the full three rounds to at least provide a mildly entertaining fight with the judges deeming that the Russian got the better of the exchange.</p><p> </p><p>

- A surprisingly standing, striking battle in the opener, given that both fighters boast a background in wrestling but Canada’s Allen LeFleur got the win over Greek veteran Alekos Karabatsos thanks to a few big right hooks that did the damage, eventually felling him so that LeFleur could finish him off.</p><p> </p><p>

- Disappointing farewell for Maxime Giresse at the top of the pre-show, the Frenchman losing to underdog Markus Jovanovic in his final RSC match. Giresse ends his run with the company with a 2-4 record and will continue to fight in Europe for Signature Martial Arts.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Post-Fight</span></strong></p><p><strong>

Maya Komagata:</strong> <em>"Won’t lie, I wanted to win this with a big kick KO, but I’m happy to retain the title either way."</em></p><p>

<strong> Katarzyna Wojchiechowska:</strong> <em>”I’m very disappointed with the outcome, I should have taken Komagata out early on and I paid the price for not doing it.”</em></p><p>

<strong>Konstantinos Choropas (CEO of RSC):</strong> <em>”Judges had a lot of work tonight, we didn’t get a lot of clean finishes in the main part of the show but I’m hoping fans enjoyed getting more content and some exciting fights.”</em></p><p>

<strong>Allen LeFleur:</strong> <em>”Karabatsos put on a tough fight, he didn’t let me play to my strengths so I had to adapt. He is resilient and I respect him as an opponent.”</em></p>

- Perhaps the most anticipated main event in quite some time, featuring the only two men left in the RSC Super Heavyweight division who can do more than just be big and get tired fast. On one side, the defending champion, Canada’s Dwight Witherspoon. Undefeated in RSC (3-0) and his entire career (9-0), odds absolutely in his favour and enjoying a significant height and reach advantage. On the other side, the challenger and #1 contender, just a few miles away from his home in Glasgow, Colin J L Capes, also enjoying an undefeated streak in RSC (2-0) and his overall career (7-0). The tough Scotsman was the one who’d issued the title challenge and entered the cage with a weight advantage, as well as a nasty streak of having finished all 5 of his last opponents. This was as big as it gets and the heat between the two only got bigger when they refused to touch gloves before the opening bell. Capes started off strong, knocking the champion down but was unable to turn that into a TKO. Witherspoon tried to ensnare the Glaswegian into a submission using his long legs, but nothing came out of it. With the opening round drawing to a close, it seemed that Capes was ahead and we were in for an exciting fight. As if to add an exclamation point to that feeling, Capes nailed a huge left head kick on his much taller opponent once round 2 began, knocking him out cold for a shocking championship victory!</p><p> </p><p>

- Spectacular fight in the semi main event, with heavy favourite Harald “Hammer” Hubner starting strong when he caught his opponent’s leg and took him down to the mat. Despite several attempts for the RNC, Dalen defended well and limited his opponent to a ground and pound. Clearly fired up by his performance in the first round, Dalen scored a couple of big head kicks as soon as round 2 was underway to send Hubner stumbling back, then closed in to knock him out with several big shots.</p><p> </p><p>

- "One Shot” Nora Bethlen did it again! Maja Krawzcyk accepted her challenge and entered this fight as a heavy favourite, showing some good defense against her opponent’s notorious big right hooks, but the sheer force behind the blows got the Russian fighter punch drunk enough to lower her defenses for a proper shot to get past and knock her out, ending her undefeated streak. Bethlen’s victim list continues to grow and she has certainly entered the discussion about a potential title shot in the near future.</p><p> </p><p>

- The night’s Welterweight fight had a distinct Mexican flavor to it as Fernandez and de Terreros met inside the cage. Despite being known as “The Bruiser”, Fernandez got badly outstruck and soon enough went down, with de Terreros capitalizing for a TKO win.</p><p> </p><p>

- Ramin Rostami may be known as an unspectacular low risk grinder, but he was far from that in the opening contest as he quickly got the double underhooks in and took his slower opponent to the mat for a deep kimura! Edu Gattai somehow managed to escape the hold though and defend against another attempt at it, but Rostami struck gold with attempt number three, getting the armbar on for the tap.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Folke Dalen:</strong> <em>”I’m just glad to stick it to the bookies. I was very well aware of the odds and it only pissed me off to work harder and fight harder. Paid off, huh?”</em></p><p>

<strong>Nora Bethlen:</strong> <em>”I know the odds were with Krawczyk tonight, but I always believed in myself, that’s why I called her out in the first place.”</em></p><p>

- After some spectacular performances and a long war of words, defending champion Rachel McGuiness and her fellow American challenger Lynda Epsom finally met in the night’s main event with championship gold on the line. Epsom was cautious about closing in to wrestle and for good reason, as McGuiness not only kept her at bay but almost knocked her out just a few minutes into their fight. Although the blow was not enough to take Epsom off outright, it did create the opening McGuiness needed to close in and drop the bombs for the TKO and retain her title. Visibly shattered by her loss, Epsom announced her retirement after the fight, ending with a track record of 11-5.</p><p> </p><p>

- Former RSC Bantamweight champion Stella Massey was caught by surprise when Vicki Summers charged in to take her down as soon as their fight began. To her credit, Massey successfully fought off several submission attempts throughout the round and when Summers took her down again in the second, she was able to reverse the situation and rain down the blows, forcing the ref to jump in and call the TKO. The real shock came after the fight however, with “The Rotterdam Rock” announcing this was her last one, drawing an audible reaction from a shocked crowd. Massey ends her career at 32 years of age with a 14-2 career record to her name, a reign as the first ever RSC Women’s Bantamweight champion with 2 defenses and having made it up to #3 in the World Rankings.</p><p> </p><p>

- Shannon Palmer is called “The Rash” because once she’s on someone, she’s hard to remove and that’s something Maria Ferraz was well aware coming into their fight, making the best of her striking game to keep the American at a safe distance. This tactic kept Palmer at bay for two rounds, but with the clock ticking down on the final round, Palmer finally took a risk to grab a leg and back her Brazilian opponent against the cage. With plenty of time to work with, Palmer was able to trip Ferraz down and found a way to get her in the armbar, earning herself a decisive victory in almost redeeming fashion.</p><p> </p><p>

- Coming in strong after his decisive victory over Dmitry Gomolov at RSC 30: Hirano vs Jankovic II, “The MVP” Manny Van Post went straight into a headhunt from the opening bell in the night’s Heavyweight division fight. Lachlan Bowen, whose winning streak ended at RSC 25: Biel vs Rives courtesy of Jean-Pierre Richelieu, attempted to close the distance and eliminate his opponent’s blows with a clinch, but Van Post escaped to nail him with a knock out head kick! Now with two decisive wins in a row, “The MVP” may well be making a comeback while Bowen’s losing trajectory continues downward.</p><p> </p><p>

- A treat for the Moscow fans, the show went off to a hot start with local fighters Dominykas Wojcik and Peter Kovacic trading blows. Of the two, it was Wojcik who got the best of the exchange, knocking his opponent out in just over a minute to win.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>RSC Heavyweight Championship:</strong> <img alt="GsoDPQW.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/GsoDPQW.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> Pai Cheng (WR#24, CR#1, 13-0, 4-0 RSC) def. <img alt="RWU2mQ5.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/RWU2mQ5.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> Percy Catcher (WR#22, CR#3, 14-6, 2-0 RSC) via Submission (RNC) – Round 4 (3:26) [Good]</p><p> </p><p>

- Can anyone stop Pai Cheng? Percy Catcher certainly couldn’t! Making the best of his wrestling skill and weight advantage, the champion from Shanghai was able to eliminate his challenger’s striking weapons and although he was the first to look like he was digging deeper into the tank during the third round, Catcher was the one to run out of gas first. Cheng aggressively chased the RNC and, to his credit, Catcher defended against it multiple times with success, forcing his Chinese competitor to pull out the big guns and deliver two of his signature suplexes, the force of the slams apparently enough to rattle Catcher and crack his defenses long enough for a hand to slide under his chin and seal Cheng’s fourth title defense, making him arguably the most successful and longest reigning champion in Red Star Combat by now.</p><p> </p><p>

- Rich Robinson said his goodbye to RSC by ruining Syed Tan’s debut despite the betting odds being overwhelmingly in favour of the Malaysian. After his opening salvo of strikes, Tan threw a careless head kick that Robinson caught to take him down and failing the sprawl attempt to escape, Syed Tan got struck by a “Hard Rain” of blows that brought about his loss via TKO.</p><p> </p><p>

- Though he hadn’t announced it, at 35 years of age with limited presence and even less success, it was very much expected this show would be Daniil Skala’s final fight. “Skull Crusher” put on a great performance despite the odds being greatly against him and pressured his young opponent throughout the first round but a careless attempt at a head kick was all Tomasz “The Train” Petrov needed to grab his leg, take him to the cage and apply a Guillotine for the tap.</p><p> </p><p>

- After failing to capture the RSC Women’s Bantamweight title from Stella Massey and losing to Carmen Routhwaite, Estonia’s Tiiu Kass redeemed herself by knocking out Alicia Fothergill in the opening fight. The American striker, who came into this fight after having broken her 0-4 losing streak with a knock out over rookie Ona Pospisil got herself knocked out by “The Tigress” and her future with RSC seems to be on shaky ground.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Chakrit Mamanee:</strong> <em>”I hope Hojo wins the belt off Nouri just so I can destroy him for the gold when we meet.”</em></p><p>

I've only ever properly played WMMA5 as WEFF just because I struggle to keep so many weight divisions going at once so womens MMA naturally limits me in a good way. It's bringing back so many memories reading through this.

Out of the people you have I remember the swede, Aniki, had a pretty decent run with me early on with some big upsets. I know Rives screwed up a bunch of my plans by beating a few of my favourites (and ended up dual division champ).

How is Idina Mickelthwaite doing? Guessing she's just in WEFF? She was super dominant for me for a few years. Surprised Trish is still undefeated, I know she last her streak pretty early on with me.

I emphasize with your super heavyweight division issues though I tried to get a lightweight womens one going (mostly just to give Idina some stuff to do after going through all the featherweights) but the talent pool just wasn't there. But it's always made me a little sad that super heavyweights aren't that big or interesting in UFC but I suppose it's just they don't actually have the athletic capability to put on entertaining fights most the time.

First of all, glad to have you here (little traffic on this diary) and glad you're enjoying it, thanks for the comments. WEFF is my favorite promotion as well, with SIGMA a close second, but WEFF are pretty much a safe monopoly so I figured I might as well give myself a challenge.

Annika Sjolin had a good start by beating then-monster Vasya Kaczmarek but then fell down the ranks, only recently making a decent comeback. Rives failed to capture the gold but she's making a comeback as well, apparently.

Idina is the #20 Featherweight in the world rankings with a 7-0 career record to date. Since the game's start she's beaten Shaunagh Stoltman and Velvet Avery by Unanimous and Split decision respectively, with her first decisive victory being over the great Anna Thompson in August of 2003. She is, of course, still employed by WEFF.

Trish Biel was sort of an underdog champion for me and a large part of her long reign is due to her not defending the title that often, but she's held onto it alright so no arguing that.

Super Heavyweights are a twofold case. One, I figured there's a gap in the market. Two, being mainly a wrestling fan, I had to feature the big monster men. So far they've been disappointing, but I can only downplay that division as I hope for the best.

RSC Women’s Flyweight Championship: 3uyLnAV.png Daljit Samir (P4P#8, WR#3, CR#2, 13-2, 3-2 RSC) def. wkJRxLq.png Trish Biel (P4P#9, WR#4, CR#1, 11-0, 3-0 RSC) via TKO (Strikes) – Round 4 (4:34) [Decent]

- Undefeated champion Trish Biel made her third title defense in the main event, entering as a favourite by far against India’s Daljit Samir after a long series of call outs and public clashing. Each fighter played to their strengths, with Samir pressuring the champion with strikes while Biel used takedowns for some ground and pound in a pretty even contest. Samir’s saving grace was her spectacular ground defense and eventually it allowed her to sprawl back to a standing position in the fourth round to knock down her opponent so she could finish her off with strikes and win the RSC Women’s Flyweight championship.

- What could have been a spectacular fight had all the wind taken out of its sails and crammed into this show’s semi main event due to outside circumstances as RSC Middleweight champion Reed Howlett had to defend his title early before time ran out on his contract with Red Star Combat, which he has been reported to be unwilling to renew. Howlett, who will continue to fight in Europe for SIGMA, was booked to fight the recovered former champion Shaun Dico in what RSC officials were probably hoping to be a passing of the torch, before ALPHA-1 swooped in to sign Dico to an exclusive contract. With both fighters having their last one, knowing that whoever would win would immediately get stripped of the title took away some of the fight’s heat. The fighters themselves were no less motivated though, with “Tenacious” Shaun Dico completing 7 out of his 8 attempted takedowns and pressuring his opponent for 4 rounds of ground and pound, while Howlett only had a few good striking moments in the second and third round before a big uppercut floored his challenger for the TKO finish.

- An unspectacular fight in the midcard with Heavyweights Dave Lennon and Aljur Paras trading blows for the full three rounds up to a judge decision. Lennon took the fight on the scorecards despite mostly taking blows in the fight, his highlight being a moment before the end of round two when he managed to grapple his opponent against the cage. Paras, despite a good showing, was unable to finish his opponent off or convince the judges and it cost him, not just victory here but his undefeated 6-0 streak overall.

- After tapping out Laia Leele at RSC 6: Klyushev vs Rasmussen in 2002 with an Armbar, Portugal’s Regina de Avila went on to defeat Vasya Kaczmarek for the RSC Women’s Featherweight title. Now a year and a half later, with no championship gold at stake, de Avila and Leele met again after a heated build-up on social media, but the outcome was no different. Leele opened up with a risky head kick and got her leg caught, with de Avila catching it to drive her back against the cage and find a way to lock in the Arm Triangle for another submission just a couple of minutes into round 1.

- A victory against the odds for 24 year old Armenian boxer Mahak Kirakosyan in the opener, against his opponent of plus ten years. Australia’s Shane Gilchrist was given zero chances of grappling or takedowns, as Kirakosyan’s striking kept him at bay and soon knocked him down to set up the TKO finish.

Post-Fight

Daljit Samir: "I lost some momentum in late ’02 early ’03 when I suffered the first two losses in my career, but I made my way back into being the #1 contender and it paid off tonight. Winning the RSC Women’s Flyweight title is one of the greatest moments in my career."

Mahak Kirakosyan: ”Oh I still want Tomasz Petrov, I’m not going anywhere. I’ll keep asking and calling him out until he faces me or quits.”

Matas Vidmar: ”I’ve put a lot of work during training in working on my kicking power, so I’m glad it paid off tonight in pretty spectacular fashion.”

A great diary you have here. Hope you keep this. I have had couple of diaries myself in WMMA5 but couldn't continue it for long.

Thanks. It's a part-time gig, but I enjoy writing it for a change from wrestling every now and then.

Kikkas concussed - Fight moved

Estonian Middleweight fighter Osvald Kikkas sustained a moderate concussion during training for his fight against Esteban Vega, originally scheduled to take place at RSC 39: Nouri vs Hojo in late February. RSC refused to replace him and instead have moved the bout to RSC 43: McGuiness vs Bethlen, in late April.

Emile Rachal recovery and debut

Former SIGMA Middleweight fighter Emile Rachal's neck recovered from the whiplash strain effect that had been holding the German fighter on the sidelines. He will be making his RSC debut at the upcoming RSC 38 Vine vs Rossi show, looking to start strong and extend his 7-0 career record at the expense of Chaim Alexievich.

Broken Collar Bone for Drazen Gabelich

Croatia's Drazen Gabelich broke his collar bone during training and while the injury will not be impacting the date of his scheduled fight against Leandro Bastos at RSC 40: Marazzina vs Lee, it will certainly mess up with his training schedule. Whether he can bounce back from this setback remains to be seen inside the cage.

Kimie Igarashi suspended

Following the drug test results of fighters at RSC 37: Biel vs Samir, Kimie Igarashi has been suspended for a year and her recent victory over Kata Mallasz overturned after she tested positive for recreational drug use. Igarashi denies the allegations and RSC's female fighters are once again under scrutiny, following former champion Lucia Pessoa's double test failure and subsequent firing.

RSC Welterweight Championship: AHeE6PK.png Simon Vine (CR#1, 26-11, 0-0 RSC) def. 9j1KX0s.png Carmello Rossi (CR#5, 15-6, 2-0 RSC) via TKO (Strikes) – Round 3 (4:25) [Good]

- Huge night for Simon Vine, who won the vacant RSC Welterweight Championship in his debut for the company. Vine was off to a rough start, taking multiple big rights and failing to trip his opponent, who he kept against the cage for the rest of the opening round in what seemed like a potential upset. The scene seemed to replay itself in the second, but this time Rossi was taken down successfully and hit multiple times with elbow shots, while an attempt to escape only saw him give up his back for the remainder of round two. With both fighters on even ground, round 3 kicked off but Vine seemed like he'd figured out Rossi by this point, immediately taking him down for more elbow shots before once more taking his back after a failed sweep. Rossi fended off the kimura but that exposed his head to several more elbow shots, with referee Martin Mills getting criticized for a potentially slow intervention to jump in and call for the TKO.

- Spectacular action in the semi main event with Thea Higgins dominating the first round as she kept her opponent trapped on the mat against the cage for some furious ground and pound. Routhwaite responded with big right hands in the second that kept her compatriot at bay and even landed two big head kicks, the second one rocking Higgins but lacking the power for a KO. Routhwaite wasn't able to zone in for a TKO either and the two fighters were separated by the bell as they were grappling on the ground. With everything to fight for, Higgins immediately shot for the takedown and controlled most of round 3. Routhwaite used constant motion for a great ground defense game but Higgins just wouldn't let go and although she couldn't complete the RNC, she kept the hooks in for most of the second half of the round, convincing the judges to unanimously declare her the winner.

- Ronaldo Freitas returned to the cage for the first time since losing his undefeated record to Foggy Lee by submission at RSC 30: Hirano vs Jankovic II. Up against rookie opponent Jozef Mikhailov, Freitas didn't even touch gloves and that seemed to fire up the Russian, who went for a clinch and controlled the Brazilian against the cage until the ref broke it up to reset. Just the wake up call Freitas needed, he made the best of the reset to land some big right hands, eventually dropping his opponent to finish him off and get the win.

- Newmar and Johns met once more after Newmar won their first fight in the prelims of RSC 19: Biel vs Broderick via TKO. This time Johns was gunning for the equalizer and she got it, even if it wasn't in such decisive manner. Still, the 30-27 score perfectly reflects the story of the match, with Johns dominating all three rounds and landing several hard knee shots but not managing to finish her resilient nemesis.

- Newmar and Johns weren't the only ones facing each other again, as Hargitay and Blekaitis also fought each other before in the prelims of RSC 16: Hayashi vs Nouri, a fight that Hargitay won by TKO. As exciting as your average Super Heavyweight fight in RSC, the opening contest was plodding and went the full three rounds before the judges called it, putting Hargitay at 2-0 against Blekaitis.

Bonus

Fight of the Night: Higgins vs Routhwaite

KO of the Night: Big Magic vs Ruzicki

Submission of the Night: Ellis vs Dietrich

Post-Fight

Simon Vine: "Shout out to the crew at Strike Force. More gold for the team showcase."

Thea Higgins: "Carmen Routhaite is tough as nails. She hit me hard and made me work hard for this win, hell, she almost had me in the second. I respect the hell outta her."

Ronaldo Freitas: ”I want Ryan Fenniman next. I will destroy him!”

Fi Johns: ”Wrapped this one up so now Diana Wozniak better get prepared for me to crush her!”

RSC expanding on the low end

Following their RSC 38 Vine vs Rossi event, Red Star Combat officials announced the addition of two new weight classes for each gender. Men are getting the Bantamweight and Flyweight classes, while Strawweight and Atomweight have been added for women. RSC officials said they will be hiring fighters but fans will have to wait at least until May before they actually see any fights in those categories. Asked whether this might be the beginning of the end for the Super Heavyweight division, officials denied such plans, though the decision itself to focus on lighter weight classes is widely considered to be a response to the disappointing RSC Super Heavyweight fights so far.

Pai Cheng joins Wudang Academy

RSC's undefeated and longest reigning champion, the Emperor of their Heavyweight division, Pai Cheng, officially joined the Wudang Academy where he will be training for his future fights. Formerly a prominent member of the Singapore-based Tai Sheng Men Society, Cheng recently left the group of submission specialists feeling he had learned all he could from them. A proven master of technical grappling with a penchant for suplexes, Cheng is now out to work on his striking and conditioning, two areas the Wudang Academy and their brutal training regime are known for.

RSC Lightweight Championship: EJfWgKs.png Motoki Hojo (CR#2, 22-8, 0-0 RSC) def. Kvh8oYR.png Georges Nouri (P4P#23, WR#5, CR#1, 18-3, 3-0 RSC) via KO (Punch) – Round 3 (4:25) [Good]

- Absolute shocker in the main event as “The Wing Chun Superstar” Motoki Hojo was true to his nickname and managed to do what no one else has in RSC, take the Lightweight title off of George Nouri’s hands! Nouri was off to a hot start, suplexing his challenger to the mat and going through four different submission holds, with Hojo defending himself well against all of them before the referee reset the two fighters in the center. Perhaps getting a bit too confident, Nouri angled for a second takedown but got careless in the process, allowing Hojo to connect with a crunching straight right to his jaw that knocked him straight out.

- Battle of the old guard in the co-main event as Brazil’s Leandro Piquet returned to the cage since losing to dos Santos by submission at RSC 26: dos Santos vs Piquet. His opponent was former RSC Light Heavyweight champion Adrian Swall at 35 years of age, just one year older than his opponent. The action saw Piquet use his Muay Thai strikes to hold Swall at bay, who would in turn attempt to grapple and muscle the Brazilian against the cage. Piquet would control the first half of each round while Swall dominated the second, however it was the third round that swung the judges’ opinion as Piquet managed to increase his control to nearly three thirds of the round, with Swall making a desperate run for it in the final minute.

- Former RSC Featherweight champion Rafael Tavares made his return since losing to Francesco Marazzina by submission at RSC 25: Biel vs Rives. He has tapped out Ilya Fedorov before at RSC 12: Swall vs Burgess in 2002 and he did so again, but for a brief moment it seemed like we would be seeing an upset. Fedorov managed to knock the Brazilian down but couldn’t quite finish him off as Tavares sprawled to safety and attempted a series of trips that Fedorov nicely defended against, until he no longer could. Once on the ground, it was only a matter of time before Tavares would squeeze a tap out of the Russian and he did just that, courtesy of an armbar.

- Mando Romero may have won 3 of his 5 last fights via knockout, but it is no secret the Mexican boxer is weakest on the ground and that’s exactly what Piotr Dabrowski exploited. Romero tried to keep his opponent at bay but couldn’t resist throwing some heavy punches as well, the slower strikes creating the opportunity Dabrowski needed to shoot for the takedown that eventually allowed him to apply a kimura and get the tap.

- An unexpected striking battle in the opener between Gayle and Kovacic, both of which are primarily wrestlers, it soon became clear why neither wanted to make a move first. Kovacic dedided to shoot first with roughly a minute left in the match, only for Gayle to sprawl and send her down on her knees. Making the best of her dodge, Gayle rained down the punches and got herself an easy TKO while fans needed to see it on replay to realize what had just transpired.

RSC Featherweight Championship: AHeE6PK.png Foggy Lee (CR#3, 15-3, 3-0 RSC) def. 9j1KX0s.png Francesco Marazzina (WR#20, CR#1, 24-10, 1-0 RSC) via Unanimous Decision [Good] [Marazzina broke his nose during the fight and announced his retirement afterwards]

- An intense and emotional main event, a passing of the torch and changing of the guard as Foggy Lee defeated Francesco Marazzina for the title. Lee came hot out of the gates with long combos that pressured the defending champion but also wore out his stamina, allowing Marazzina to hip toss him, though he ran out of time before he could attempt a submission. Round two was the turning point, with Lee having gotten some much needed rest during the break and a lucky blow that shattered Marazzina’s nose. From that point on, Lee changed his approach to deliver fewer but stronger and more calculated blows while keeping his gas tank in check. Marazzina could only try and survive until the end, his only highlight being another takedown with less than a minute before the finish, mainly thanks to his opponent’s exhaustion but yet again, he could not get him to tap in time. Lee won by unanimous decision and Marazzina, still bleeding, made an emotional speech to announce his retirement from the sport of mixed martial arts.

- Fan favorite Michael Dali made his RSC return after a leave of absence to fight for SIGMA. Frankie Burgess was his opponent, who Dali publicly denounced as a worthy former RSC Light Heavyweight champion leading up to this match. The hatred between the two was evident in their blows but neither man seemed to gain a decisive advantage and Dali’s inexperience showed in the fact that while he was able to land some decisive blows, instead of focusing on those he would instead throw himself into wild combinations of blows that Burgess would easily block. That said, the match went the full three rounds and ended up in a contested split decision, with Dali openly expressing his contempt for it during his post fight interview.

- Rennaya Rives and Helena Broderick clashed in the Women’s Flyweight division, a fight with implications of a future title shot. Broderick got badly outstruck in the opening round, much to the dismay of her home crowd who was hoping for one of her powerful big right hands to turn the tables in her favor. Rives made good use of her feet for some head kicks during round one and it paid off as the damage piled on and one of these kicks in round two floored Broderick so she could finish her off and get the TKO victory.

- Drazen Gabelich made his return after injuring his collar bone during training. The Croatian went into this fight with a patient, defensive strategy, trying to lure his opponent into big swings and a mistake that would allow him to shoot. While that made for a snoozer of an opening round, Bastos finally made the mistake and Gabelich managed to take him down for the armbar and submission, proving his game plan right all along.

- Hot start to the show with hometown hero Bast Moulke getting a loud welcome as well as an audible reaction when neither he, nor Dmitry Gomolov touched gloves before the start of the fight. Despite all the trash talk back and forth leading to this fight, the actual outcome was unexciting to say the least, with Moulke mostly being the aggressor. All three rounds were more or less spent in a standing clinch, pushing each other to the cage for some dirty boxing, nothing to set the world ablaze but a clear win on the judges cards, 30-27 for Moulke who was in complete control from start to finish.

Fight of the Night: Lee vs Marazzina

KO of the Night: Rives vs Broderick

Submission of the Night: Gabelich vs Bastos

Post-Fight

Foggy Lee: "Thanks to all my fans, sponsors and family at Montreal Fight Sciences. This was a tough fight and I’m excited to be the champion. If I had to pick someone to defend it against, that would be Rafael Tavares, I have huge respect for him and liked what I saw in his fight two weeks ago."

Michael Dali: ”Quintrell Dubois, you biased French wanker, I got a 30-27, clean sweep on the other judges’ cards, what the hell is this score? This should have been a unanimous decision, there is no question I kicked this guy’s ass! Next up for an ass kicking is Lim and he better prepare, because I’m coming for him and his title!”

Rennaya Rives: ”Yeah, I suffered my first and only loss to Trish Biel in that title match, but I’m making my way back to another shot. Now that Samir holds the gold, I’ll be watching her closely and hoping we meet in the cage soon.”

Bast Moulke: ”I hope a fight can be arranged between me and Aljur Paras, I still want to face him inside the cage.”

RSC Super Heavyweight Championship: TAUaUeR.png Hector Jimenez (CR#3, 5-0, 2-0 RSC) def. 43.gif Colin J. L. Capes (WR#10, CR#1, 8-0, 3-0 RSC) via Unanimous Decision [Average] [Capes broke his nose during the fight]

- Having finished all 5 of his last opponents, Colin J. L. Capes walked confidently into his first title defense, but Hector Jimenez had done his homework and dodged all three attempts the champion made for a big head kick in the opening round. That was the most exciting part of the fight, to be honest, since both big men aren’t exactly renowned for their stamina. Capes attempted to score points by muscling his challenger against the cage, but the longer fight brought out some surprising takedown skills on Jimenez, who used them for previous ground and pound points. Capes, sporting a broken nose, made one last desperate attempt at a head kick in the final round catching nothing but air and with the match taken to the judges, Jimenez was unanimously declared the winner and new RSC Super Heavyweight champion!

- Shocking co-main event, with Brazil’s Rosamaria Correa wrapping it up as soon as it started with a single uppercut! The muay thai fighter caught Ivanov square in the jaw and knocked her flat out, ending the match by pouncing on top to finish her off with more strikes.

- A tale of two opposites in the Featherweight division’s double RSC debut: Birmingham’s Ryan Fenniman stepped into the cage having finished 4 of his 5 last opponents, whereas Ireland’s Colm Dee hasn’t won a fight for two and a half years, since September 2001. Odds seem to be on the British youngster’s side, but Dee had something to prove and apparently that drove him to deliver a killer punch just a minute and a half into the match, shutting out the lights for his opponents in a single blow that sent the fans into a frenzy.

- Kafu Bunya made his RSC debut, the former ALPHA-1 Welterweight champion going toe to toe with RSC’s former Welterweight champion, Dominykas Jankovic in a fight that was as even as it could get. Bunya dominated round one and the first half of round two with quick strikes, while Jankovic controlled the second half with a total of three takedowns and a 100% takedown success rate. This was where Bunya’s strong point shone, his great defensive skills allowing him to survive on the ground and often escape with some great sprawling. The score of 29-28 reflects how the fight played out, with Jankovic barely edging a win thanks to his ground control game and now perhaps dreaming of another shot at gold.

- Great night for Roope Kuqi in the opener as the “Second Generation Star” eliminated Wally da Cunha’s muay thai striking but getting in up close and pressuring him in the grapple, until he was able to take him down and apply the RNC. Kuqi is now back to his winning ways, following his first and only career loss so far to Mugur Boc back in November.

Bonus

Fight of the Night: Kuqi vs da Cunha

KO of the Night: Dee vs Fenniman

Submission of the Night: Kuqi vs da Cunha

Post-Fight

Hector Jimenez: "I think the obvious first challenger would be Dwight Witherspoon. He’s the former champion and a great fighter, I have a lot of respect for him and I think we could put on a great fight for the fans."

Rosamaria Correa: ”Big thanks to my fans and sponsors for supporting me. Next fight? I’d love to kick Nora Bethlen’s ass.”

Colm Dee: ”Screw this Ireland-UK thing, I got nothing against this kid. My previous fight was in SIGMA against Marco Bernacci. I know he’s on this roster too and I want a chance to reclaim my pride by defeating him next time I enter this cage.”

Dominykas Jankovic: ”Thanks to the Mantas Andreyev Fighting team for helping me prepare and to my sponsors for supporting me financially so I could fight tonight. Kafu Bunya has been in the global top 10 and that was not by accident, he has my respect for what I saw tonight.”
