TNA Knockouts History

Quote

Since its inception in late 2007, the women of the TNA Knockouts division have been praised by fans for offering a true wrestling alternative to the WWE’s poorly treated Divas division which often featured short matches focused on sex appeal, rather than athletic competition.

Furthermore, during its first few years, the TNA Knockouts segments and matches were often the highest rated segments of the program, at times drawing more viewers than the main event matches featuring names such as Sting and Kurt Angle. This showed there was a genuine interest in real women’s wrestling and fans appreciated having a platform to showcase this front and center.

Having built the division originally around Gail Kim, TNA found themselves without their star when Gail chose not to re-sign with TNA in mid-2008 - despite being the driving catalyst for the Knockouts division which was only in its infancy.

Despite this loss, TNA expanded the division with a combination of up-and-coming independent talents as well as wrestling veterans. With a depth of talent on their roster, TNA created the Knockouts Tag Team Championships – the first national promotion in decades to create a tag team division for women.

However, around this time, TNA saw the departure of popular ‘mean girl’, Angelina Love due to real life visa issues, leaving the Canadian National unable to work in America. Veteran Jacqueline Moore was also released by late 2009 and we got to witness the worst Knockouts feud and match to date in Sharmell vs Jenna Morasca.

Once Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff took control of TNA in early 2010, the once promising Knockouts Division became stagnant as the focus of the women shifted to sex appeal rather than wrestling talent mimicking rival WWE’s bikini clad Diva’s Division, losing what set it apart as an alternative, and made it so popular.

A low point of the period occurred in April of 2010 in a Knockouts ‘Lockbox Showdown’ which resulted in 4 Knockouts winning keys to open four lockboxes, similar to their ‘Feast or Fired’ concept:

  • Velvet Sky’s lockbox contained a contract for any match of her choosing. Velvet used this to face former BFF Angelina Love in a ‘Leather and Lace’ match…
  • Knockouts Champion Tara’s lockbox contained her pet tarantula, which Daffney had stolen while feuding with Tara for the Knockouts Title over the past couple of months…

Due to Tara’s box not containing her title meant she is no longer the Knockouts Champion, either Angelina Love or Daffney will become the new Knockouts Champion (by opening a box) and the remaining Knockout has to perform a striptease in the ring…

Angelina Love and Daffney open their lockboxes simultaneously and:

  • Angelina Love wins the TNA Knockouts Championship by opening a lockbox…

Meaning:

  • Daffney is told she has to go to the ring and perform a striptease or she will be fired…

A string of departures followed the 2010 change of management and the direction and booking of the Knockouts division over the course of the year including:

  • Awesome Kong – who requested her release in January after a backstage altercation with Hogan’s friend Bubba the Love Sponge while also citing monetary issues as well as the changes to TNA management as reasons for her decision to leave;
  • Alissa Flash who also requested her release around this time;
  • Roxxi and the ‘Original Knockout’ Traci Brooks, were also released by March;
  • Despite being a 3 time Knockouts Champion and being in the title picture at the start of the year, ODB also requested and was granted her release from TNA by June.
  • Tara also announced she was leaving TNA in April 2010, due to not being able to agree on new contract terms, citing money as the primary reason - however she was able to be resigned and back in the fold within a few months.
  • Daffney, Taylor Wilde, Lacey Von Erich and Hamada however, were all released by the end of 2010.

And so, by year’s end, The TNA Knockouts Division was a shell of its former self, consisting of:

  • Angelina Love
  • Madison Rayne
  • Mickie James
  • Miss Tessmacher (injured)
  • Sarita
  • Tara
  • Velvet Sky
  • Winter

Although this was a strong roster in terms of talent and picking up Mickie James and the former Katie Lea were huge additions, the division was shallow and lacked depth in terms of characters as well as diversity.

This diary will commence on January 1st 2010 and will only consist of segments and matches of the Knockouts Division.

I want to book the Knockouts through the Hogan/Bischoff era and hopefully show just what could have been 10 years ago…

TNA Impact! - Thursday, Week 1 January 2010

<div style="width:1000px;margin:auto;">

<img src="https://imgur.com/qoP42uU.png?1">

TNA Impact! - Thursday, Week 1 January 2010

Arguably the biggest night so far in TNA Wrestling history, where the company as a whole is stepping up and beginning to emerge as a legitimate threat to WWE’s wrestling monopoly. Big names such as Hulk Hogan, Eric Bischoff and Ric Flair making their TNA debuts, as well as TNA Impact going live every Thursday night – seemingly trying to learn from WCW’s mistakes and not initiating a Monday night war just yet…

<img src="https://imgur.com/9cXnk9Q.png?1">

TNA Wrestling President, Dixie Carter makes her way to the ring. Announcers Mike Tenay and Taz recap the online reaction to TNA announcing a weekly all-Knockouts show commencing this Saturday Night.

<img src="https://imgur.com/GZGC1aB.png?1">

Dixie Carter says that TNA Wrestling listen to their fans and the fans wanted an alternative and that’s what TNA Wrestling will continue to be. Dixie congratulates all of the TNA Knockouts past and present for their hard work over the past two and a half years since the division was born, and behind the scenes work for much longer, pushing for the chance to showcase true women’s wrestling. Dixie acknowledges the success of the division including the ratings success of Knockout segments and matches and notes that Spike TV took notice and approached TNA about an all-Knockouts show.

Dixie states that tonight has seen many changes starting to occur to TNA Wrestling going forward and the Knockouts will continue to grow and evolve too. Dixie says that the Knockouts will continue to be featured as part of the Impact broadcast and will of course still be a part of TNA Pay-Per-Views. Dixie says that this huge opportunity has presented one problem for TNA Management – they feel they need someone in charge of the Knockouts Division, a new Knockout Commissioner, and Dixie could only think of one woman in the whole world who could handle the job…

Chyna makes her way out on stage to a thunderous response from the Impact Zone!

<img src="https://imgur.com/lxM3Wiu.png?1">

Taz hypes up Chyna’s accomplishments and puts her over as one of the toughest female wrestlers of all time, while Mike Tenay lets us know that it has been 8 years since Chyna last appeared in the world of wrestling. The crowd erupt into a ‘welcome back’ chant.

<img src="https://imgur.com/SvhwDX9.png?1">

Chyna takes a microphone and thanks Dixie for the opportunity. Chyna says she is glad people still remember her, and it feels great to be back in wrestling. Chyna says she can not wait to help shape and grow the Knockouts going forward and hypes the premiere of Knocked Out this coming Saturday saying that Knockouts Champion ODB will be in action as well as a 10 Knockout Battle Royal to determine a Number One Contender for ODB’s Knockouts Title in 3 weeks at Genesis.

Just as well the titles weren’t on the line as Velvet Sky was able to roll up Taylor Wilde for the win following a distraction from Lacey Von Erich who was a constant thorn in the side of Sarita and Taylor Wilde throughout the match.

Winners: The Beautiful People

Finish: Roll up, following outside distraction

Later in the night, cameras cut backstage to find the Beautiful People crashing Traci Brooks' photoshoot and laying her out with Lacey's Ugly Stick.

The Beautiful People then demand the photographer to snap pictures of them posing over Traci's downed body!

TNA Knocked Out! - Saturday, Week 1 January 2010

TNA Knocked Out! - Saturday, Week 1 January 2010

Mike Tenay and Taz welcome us to the historic first episode of Knocked Out, which of course showcases TNA Wrestling’s women’s division – the Knockouts! The announcers talk us through a recap of the shocking debut of Chyna as the new Knockouts Commissioner!

Chyna’s music hits and she makes her way to the ring to another massive reaction from the Impact Zone.

<img src="https://imgur.com/SvhwDX9.png?1">

The Knockouts Commissioner talks up the history which is being made in this very moment. Chyna says that she believes we should start the show off strong and get right to business, announcing the 10 Knockout Number One Contender’s Battle Royal will happen right now! Chyna reminds us that the winner will face TNA Knockouts Champion ODB at the upcoming Genesis Pay-Per-View, in two weeks from tomorrow!

Chyna serves as our ring announcer as each Knockout makes her entrance. Once 9 Knockouts are in the ring, Chyna makes counting motions with her fingers.

"Oh, looks like we are one Knockout short", she says as she taps her chin.

Chyna says she is very excited to announce the tenth entrant and announces this woman is a former 2 time Women's Champion, and is making her TNA debut tonight… From New Orleans, Louisiana... Jazz!

Velvet Sky went straight for Taylor Wilde while the remaining Knockouts worked together to eliminate arguably the biggest threat: Awesome Kong! The final four came down to Tara, Alissa Flash, Christy Hemme and Jazz. Tara wins, by last eliminating Alissa Flash!

Winner: Tara

Elimination Order: Awesome Kong (1), Sarita (2), Jackie Moore (3), Velvet Sky (4), Taylor Wilde (5),

Dr Stevie announces Daffney is accepting ODB's challenge! Daffney pushes past a confused Lauren, who replies that ODB didn't issue a challenge. I'm loving this concept. I tried to book WWE Evolution in that particular mod, but didn't have much success. Here's hoping you have better success with this idea. Booking an all women's show is hard!

What are you doing as far as the rest of TNA goes? Are you autobooking Impact? Either way, you can't do any worse of a job than Hogan and Bischoff did. That was awful, they damn near killed TNA.

Can't believe you booked Tara for Impact and only gave her a backstage monitor spot! Impact's casual spending is out of control! <img alt=";)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/wink.png.686f06e511ee1fbf6bdc7d82f6831e53.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

If I was to suggest hires I'd say Madison Eagles straight away - she's just a fantastic worker.

As an Aussie, I'll admit I've already got my eye on Madison Eagles, Jessie McKay and Tenille Tayla :D

If I missed it, apologies for asking but what Mod are you using?

Actually I really enjoyed TNA between 2006-2009 but sadly Hogan came in and the show just sucked after that. Been 10 long years...

Enjoying the start of this a lot

Thanks! It was tough to find a mod around this time period so I've converted a 2010 mod by MrCanada through to 2016 which I'll admit means the mod is a bit clunky but playable. I've also imported some more female workers and done some minor tweaking.

Love the concept! Out of curiosity, will you be keeping us updated on major events of the men's division?

Also, I saw you mention Tenille Tayla - is that Emma/Tenille Dashwood? If so, I 100% approve! :D

I might do a monthly update for the men if there is interest? The Autobooker can make some interesting booking decisions (kind of like 2010 TNA irl :p)

And yes Tenille Tayla is Emma - one of my favs!

TNA Knocked Out! - Saturday, Week 2 January 2010

TNA Knocked Out! - Saturday, Week 2 January 2010

<img src="https://imgur.com/aAlaRRU.png?1">

TNA Knockouts Champion ODB is in the ring with a microphone and she calls out Alissa Flash, saying that she can and will beat Flash - even if she has to put her title on the line for the opportunity.

<img src="https://imgur.com/5e39pLG.png?1">

Tara's music hits and she makes her way to the ring, snatching the microphone right out of ODB's hand!

Tara reminds ODB that she is the Number One Contender and ODB should be worrying about her coming after the title, not some wannabe nobody who got a cheap shot and a lucky win. Tara reminds ODB that she has been Champion everywhere she has been and she can and will beat ODB just like that, as she snaps her fingers.

ODB takes exception to this and gets in Tara's face, with the two Knockouts trash talking each other.

<img src="https://imgur.com/uFSc577.png?1"><img src="https://imgur.com/Gj3eb0I.png?1">

Alissa Flash and Daffney make their way out onto the stage. Flash says that she is more than happy to hand out another defeat to ODB and show everyone once again why she is the Future Legend and why Tara doesn't even matter. Flash and Daffney begin to make their way down the ramp as Chyna's music hits!

<img src="https://imgur.com/SvhwDX9.png?1">

Knockouts Commissioner Chyna comes out on stage and tells Flash and Daffney not to proceed any further. Chyna says that they will all get their chance to face each other tonight, but it will be later tonight in our main event!

<img src="https://imgur.com/idXoDNe.png?1">

Back from commercial break, Mike Tenay and Taz recap the opening segment and hype the main event tag match, questioning how Champion ODB and Number One Contender Tara can work together as a team!

Awesome Kong [vs] Hamada

Background:

  • These Knockouts have never faced each other in America

Hamada managed to build some momentum and looked like she could topple the Monstrous Kong however Kong was able to ground Hamada's offense and put her away

Winner: Awesome Kong

Finish: Pinfall, following the Awesome Bomb</div>

Post match, Hamada slowly gets to her feet and offers a handshake, in a sign of respect to her formal Japanese rival.

Awesome Kong looks around the Impact Zone who are cheering for Kong to accept the sportsmanlike gesture.

Kong looks at Hamada's hand and then looks at her gloved fist...

Hamada motions with her hand and can be seen speaking to Kong in Japanese.

Kong eventually accepts the handshake and the Knockouts raise each other's arms in the ring, to the cheers of the crowd!

Backstage, The Beautiful People hijack the camera to film the next installment of 'The Meanest Girls'. It's not long before they run into their next victim, Christy Hemme.

<img src="https://imgur.com/fCCfUCo.png?1">

Christy sees The Beautiful People and immediately turns to leave but Velvet and Madison are able to surround her. Christy asks Lacey what they want, Lacey replies that they want Christy to be a part of their show! Christy looks confused, as Madison hits her in the back with the Ugly Stick!

Knockouts Tag Team Champions Sarita and Taylor Wilde appear out of nowhere and chase off The Beautiful People who drop the camera. We see Taylor and Sarita checking on Christy as we head to commercial...

<img src="https://imgur.com/9cXnk9Q.png?1">

After the break, Lauren Brooke is backstage with Knockouts Commissioner, Chyna in her office.

Chyna says she has seen what happened before the commercial break and has decided to make a 6 woman tag match happening next, where Christy Hemme will team with the Tag Champions, Sarita and Taylor Wilde to face The Beautiful People.

Furthermore, due to their victory on Impact! last week against Sarita and Taylor Wilde, The Beautiful People will get a chance at the Knockouts Tag Titles at Genesis, one week from tomorrow!

Sarita, Taylor Wilde & Christy Hemme [vs] The Beautiful People

Background:

  • Sarita and Taylor Wilde are the Knockouts Tag Team Champions
  • The Beautiful People will challenge for the Titles one week from tomorrow at Genesis
  • This match was made following The Beautiful People's 'Meanest Girls' attacks on Christy Hemme

Christy Hemme was able to get some revenge and the Tag Team Champions were able to pick up some momentum before their Title defense after picking up the victory. A rare display of miscommunication between The Beautiful People resulted in Madison Rayne accidentally hitting Velvet Sky with the Ugly Stick, leading to Sarita getting the pinfall!

Winners: Sarita, Taylor Wilde & Christy Hemme

Finish: Roll-up, following the accidental interference</div>

<img src="https://imgur.com/9cXnk9Q.png?1">

After the break, Lauren Brooke is in the interview area, with Alissa Flash.

Flash makes it clear that her only goal and focus is to beat ODB and become the Knockouts Champion. Flash says that ODB is a joke representing the Knockouts Division and a Diva like Tara isn't much better.

Flash asks Lauren what people tuning in think when they see the Champion groping herself and drinking alcohol? Flash vows to represent the division properly and begin carving her legacy...

<img src="https://imgur.com/9cXnk9Q.png?1">

Before our main event gets underway, Mike Tenay and Taz take a moment to run down the current card for the upcoming Genesis Pay-Per-View which is one week from tomorrow:

'Future Legend' Alissa Flash & Daffney [vs] ODB & Tara

Background:

  • ODB is the Knockouts Champion
  • Tara will challenge for the Title one week from tomorrow at Genesis
  • Alissa Flash owns a pinfall victory over ODB from Impact!
  • Alissa Flash and Daffney teamed together in the Knockouts Tag Team Title tournament

ODB and Tara just couldn't get on the same page with frequent stiff, blind tags and trying to outdo each other, at one point even almost coming to blows!

After working over Daffney, the egos of ODB and Tara allowed an opportunity for the tag to Flash who was able to take advantage.

In the end, Flash was able to side-step a spear, causing ODB to accidentally knock her partner Tara off the apron. This distracted ODB long enough for the 'Future Legend' to take advantage and hit the Michinoku Driver II!

Winners: Alissa Flash & Daffney

Finish: Pinfall, following the Michinoku Driver II to a distracted ODB

</div>

Post match, Tara gets in ODB's face and asked what happened!

ODB blames Tara for them losing the match! Eventually the two hot-headed Knockouts come to blows as officials try to separate the women!

<img src="https://imgur.com/uFSc577.png?1"> <img src="https://imgur.com/Gj3eb0I.png?1">

The camera pans up to the stage and catches Alissa Flash with Daffney smirking at the chaos to end the show!
