CTC Sunday Night Fights 24

Sunday, Week 1, December 2003

MAIN EVENT

Middleweight Bout: "The Talented" Sutton Ripley (20-6-1, 3-2 CTC, Favorite: -110) vs. Ashley "The Tiger" Ballard (15-4, 1-1 CTC, Underdog: +100)

Sutton Ripley is one of the most under-rated fighters in MMA due to his highly unique fighting style. He has developed his tactics around his two big assets, his ferocious right hand and his uncanny balance which makes him incredibly hard to take down. He generally lures his opponents in before swinging to win. He is coming off a first round knock out loss to Bambang Sriyanto in his last fight. Ashley Ballard is a very good kick boxer who is enormously powerful thanks to his compact, muscular frame. A cardio machine, Ballard rarely seems to tire. He is coming off a second round submission loss to Petey Mack in the Semi-Finals of the Season 3 Middleweight Tournament.

CO-MAIN EVENT

Middleweight Bout: Dexter "D-Man" Darling (20-8-1, 1-1 CTC, Favorite: -300) vs. "The Executioner" Maarten De Vries (17-9, 0-1 CTC, Underdog: +230)

Dexter Darling is one of the best pure athletes in MMA history, and his success has been built on explosive power and never-ending stamina. The former football players best strategy has always been to follow one of his massive takedowns with brutal ground and pound, but as his career has progressed so too has his ability to use smooth boxing to vary his attacks. He is coming off a second round submission loss to Thomas Smith in the Final of the 2002 Winter Series Middleweight Tournament. Maarten De Vries is a favorite of MMA fans around the world, and is widely loved for his exciting fighting style, which is based primarily around his array of spectacular kicks, although his occasionally reckless attacks do sometimes leave him in trouble. He is coming off a first round TKO loss to Thorbjorn Rekdal in his last fight.

MAIN CARD

Final of the Sunday Night Fights 24 Middleweight Tournament

Middleweight Bout: Gavin "The Lawman" Marshall (11-1, 4-1 CTC, Favorite: -380) vs. Oleg Tariverdiev (10-3, 0-1 CTC, Underdog: +300)

Gavin Marshall marries an excellent pedigree in amateur wrestling with dangerously heavy hands to create a style that is hard to deal with. He is coming off a third round TKO victory over Tetsuji Myojin in his last fight. Oleg Tariverdiev is a Jiu-Jitsu expert, who is extremely dangerous on the ground thanks to his submission skills. Tariverdiev also has competent boxing and grappling games at his disposal. He is coming off a second round knock out loss to Dexter Darling in the Semi-Finals of the 2002 Winter Series Middleweight Tournament.

Middleweight Bout: Mal Phe Roby (22-8, 0-1 CTC, Favorite: -240) vs. Chaim Alexievitch (9-1, 2-1 CTC, Underdog: +190)

Mal Phe Roby is an extremely tough fighter who has an exceptional ability to shrug off even the hardest blows as is they were mere slaps. He is a decent striker in his own right, and is especially fond of his vicious low leg kicks and Muay Thai knee strikes. Tenacious in the extreme, Roby's dogged determination makes him a hard fighter to finish. He lost by first round TKO to Sutton Ripley in the Quarter-Finals of the Season 3 Middleweight Tournament. Chaim Alexievitch is a wrestler, a rugged competitor who has the tenacity of a pit bull in the cage. He likes to grind out results with his grappling skills to smother an opponent against the cage and ground, from where he can beat them up with dirty boxing and ground and pound. He is coming off a third round submission victory over Edgar Van Den Hoogenband in his last fight.

Semi-Final of the Sunday Night Fights 24 Middleweight Tournament

Semi-Final of the Sunday Night Fights 24 Middleweight Tournament

Middleweight Bout: Snuffy Fontana (11-1, Underdog: +150) vs. Jaromir Grygera (22-7, 1-1 CTC, Favorite: -210)

Snuffy Fontana is an all-rounder who can strike, grapple or use submissions. With time to develope, Fontana could become a major name. He is coming off a first round TKO victory over Tucker Plumm in BCF. Jaromir Grygera is a rugged wrestler who possesses a potent ground and pound game and is known for being one of the hardest Middleweights in the world to finish. He is coming off a third round submission victory over Carl Ratcliffe in his last fight.

Middleweight Bout: Ramon da Silva Ramos (9-0, Favorite: -250) vs. Mario de Souza (26-10, 0-1 CTC, Underdog: +190)

Ramon da Silva Ramos is an outstanding kick boxer with a lethal head kick in his arsenal, Ramos is also tough to take down, and even tougher to submit. His one weakness is that his grappling is mediocre at best, leaving him open to being shut down by top wrestlers. He is coming off a first round TKO victory over Wes Hersch in GAMMA. Mario de Souza is one of the most solid fighters in Mixed Martial Arts. He is primarily a ground and pound competitor, where his BJJ skills make him very dangerous, but also has the ability to stand and strike. He is coming off a first round knock out loss to Petey Mack in his last fight.

Middleweight Bout: Ethan "The Terror" Sutton (12-2, 3-1 CTC, Favorite: -810) vs. "Crushin'" Moe Muschin (6-3, 0-2 CTC, Underdog: +640)

Ethan Sutton is primarily a wrestler with excellent takedowns, Sutton also has some solid boxing skills at his disposal, although the lack of power in his hands means that he is unlikely to get too many knock outs that way. He is coming off a Unanimous Decision victory over Paul Goodfellow in his last fight. Moe Muschin is a wrestler, who has a good clinch game but lacks badly in the stand-up department. He is coming off a third round knock out loss to Chaim Alexievitch in his last fight.

PRELIMINARY CARD

Sunday Night Fights 24 Middleweight Tournament Quarter-Final Bout: Nate Dawes (4-2, 0-2 CTC, Underdog: +640) vs. "The Flying V" Esteban Vega (9-1, 1-1 CTC, Favorite: -810)

Nate Dawes is a powerful and explosive wrestler, he learned his trade at college level, where he was once considered one of the best grapplers in the country. Now fighting MMA his raw athleticism is hard to counter, as is the fact that he backs up his wrestling ability with huge power in his fists. He is coming off a first round submission loss to Tom Essy in his last fight. Esteban Vega is an extremely promising talent from Mexico, who looks to have all the tools to be a major contender. His boxing is excellent, he has a strong wrestling background, and he has developed great defence on his back. He is coming off a Unanimous Decision victory over Owen Hyde.

Sunday Night Fights 24 Middleweight Tournament Quarter-Final Bout: Dwayne "The Pain" Alleyne (12-1, Favorite: -1200) vs. "El Diable" Santiago Rocha (4-1, 1-1 CTC, Underdog: +950)

Dwayne Alleyne is a Greco-Roman wrestler, who loves to grab hold of his opponent, press them up against the cage, then wear them down with nasty dirty boxing. With his seemingly endless cardio, he can inflict damage on his opponent all night long if needed. He is coming off a Unanimous Decision victory over Pepe in GAMMA. Santiago Rocha is a Chilean strongman, a Muay Thai specialist who can be devastating from the clinch. He is coming off a first round TKO victory over French Dancer in his last fight.

Sunday Night Fights 24 Middleweight Tournament Quarter-Final Bout: Andre Passos (4-2, 0-2 CTC, Underdog: +520) vs. Mariusz Nowak (4-1, 1-1 CTC, Favorite: -660)

Andre Passos is a Muay Thai specialist, a pure striker who loves to stand and bang. He's by no means the best fighter in the world, but he has the skills to have a decent enough career and will always be a fan favorite because of his willingness to engage in exciting brawls. He is coming off a Unanimous Decision loss to Taillefer Belanger in his last fight. Mariusz Nowak is a wrestler by trade, and has the grappling skills to give anybody problems, but seems more than happy loading up his massive overhand right and going head-hunting instead. He is coming off a first round submission loss to Hunter Scribbins in his last fight.

Sunday Night Fights 24 Middleweight Tournament Quarter-Final Bout: Paul "The Demolisher" Goodfellow (4-2, 2-1 CTC, Underdog: +170) vs. "Untappable" Eugene McDuff (3-0, 3-0 CTC, Favorite: -220)

Paul Goodfellow is a high level kick boxer who is known for his brutal finishing ability. A born fighter, if Goodfellow can get his grappling to a decent level then he'll become an extremely dangerous mixed martial artist. He is coming off a Unanimous Decision loss to Ethan Sutton in his last fight. Eugene McDuff is a Scottish competitor, who was one of the very best Judo players in all of Scotland, and cross-trained extensively prior to his debut. An extremely versatile competitor, who has good takedowns, and can finish with either strikes, or submissions on the ground, and also has punching power that makes him dangerous standing. He is coming off a third round submission victory over Jordan Flintstone in his last fight.

Middleweight Bout: Jakuchu Abe (8-0, Favorite: -340) vs. Frederico Vergara (10-0, 2-0 CTC, Underdog: +270)

Jakuchu Abe is a black belt level Jiu-Jitsu student, who has also honed his other skills, particularly his striking, in order to make himself a complete mixed martial artists. He is coming off a Unanimous Decision victory over Zaco in ALPHA-1. Frederico Vergara is originally from a boxing background, as is obvious when you see his hands in action, but has also dabbled in the other areas of MMA. The result is a well-rounded competitor who will only improve as he gains experience. He is coming off a first round submission victory over Woody Fierstein in his last fight.

Middleweight Bout: Tetsuji "Rampage" Myojin (11-1, 0-1 CTC, Favorite: -1110) vs. French "Private" Dancer (8-6, 1-2 CTC, Underdog: +880)

Tetsuji Myojin is a good all-rounder, his only problem is that he is a jack-of-all-trades but a master of none, if he could add some potent strikes or deadly submissions to his arsenal, he'd be tough to beat. He is coming off a third round submission loss to Gavin Marshall in his last fight. French Dancer is a fighter who had a decent, if unspectacular, record as an amateur wrestler. Other than his grappling skills, Dancer doesn't really have a lot going for him in MMA terms. He is coming off a first round TKO loss to Santiago Rocha in his last fight.

Middleweight Bout: Noppanon On-Mo (2-2, 0-2 CTC, Underdog: +950) vs. Tuck "The Everlasting" Durdell (9-2, 2-2 CTC, Favorite: -1200)

Noppanon On-Mo uses his Muay Thai background to kick the crap out of anything that gets in his way. If he could learn some grappling and do something about his abysmal ground game, he could be a force at Middleweight in the future. He is coming off a second round knock out loss to Simon Lessard in his last fight. Tuck Durdell is a ground and pound specialist, who is considered a good prospect for the future based upon his athletic abilities and drive. A solid wrestler with a powerful shot, he can be viciously effective if he can get on top of an opponent and open up. He is coming off a second round submission loss to Wederson de Oliveira in is last fight.

Middleweight Bout: Tom "The Bomb" Essy (6-0, 1-0 CTC, Favorite: -1200) vs. Todd "The Bruiser" D'Abruzzo (9-6, 0-2 CTC, Underdog: +950)

Tom Essy comes to MMA with a good amateur wrestling pedigree and that is clear in his solid takedowns and good top control. Primarily a ground and pounder, he doesn have a not-so-secret weapon in a massively powerful right hand that can lay out anybody if it connects. He is coming off a first round submission victory over Nate Dawes in his last fight. Todd D'Abruzzo is a big puncher, who hits hard. His stand-up is fairly good and he has the power to do serious damage, but he is let down by how limited he is in other aspects of MMA. He is coming off a first round knock out loss to Jonn Parent in his last fight.

Middleweight Bout: Thiago Azevedo (4-1, 1-1 CTC, Underdog: +340) vs. Woody "Buzz Saw" Fierstein (13-8, 1-1 CTC, Favorite: -430)

Thiago Azevedo is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist, who is at his best when he can engage his foes in a grappling contest, take them down, and work his submission skills. His stand-up is less assured, but he does possess enough raw power to make sure that he can not be underestimated. He is coming off a second round submission loss to Tiki Britton in his last fight. Woody Fierstein is a decorated amateur wrestler who has worked hard to expand his skill set and become a real mixed martial artist. He has exceptional cardio that allows him to keep attacking for the entire match, and he often picks up wins by finishing strong against tired opponents. He is coming off a first round submission loss to Frederico Vergara in his last fight.

Middleweight Bout: Tiki "Great" Britton (4-0, 2-0 CTC, Favorite: -110) vs. Wederson de Oliveira (10-3, 3-2 CTC, Underdog: +100)

Tiki Britton was an accomplished college wrestler known for his explosive athleticism, Britton has the potential to be a real player somewhere down the line. He is coming off a second round submission victory over Thiago Azevedo in his last fight. Wederson de Oliveira is a BJJ fighter, who is good off his back, and extremely dangerous when it comes to slapping on armbars at a moments notice. His only problem is that his striking is mediocre at best and opponents know exactly what to expect from him. He is coming off a second round submission victory over Tuck Durdell in his last fight.

Sorry it's been a few days, but I have been having some computer problems. I will likely be buying a new laptop in the next couple days, and will be back, but unfortunately this dynasty is over. I will be back with a new one soon. In the meantime I'll be able to log on with my tablet and still predict and be active on the forum.
