The big man from Indonesia is pacing in what appears to be a dressing area. There are no lockers, but there are several steel folding chairs and gym bags and suitcases with gear in them. . He does not look happy -- at all. He snarls and kicks a folding chair over. He looks directly into the lens of the camera.

Java, “Tonight, I went out into the ring with nineteen other men and I laid waste to all of them. Every man who stood in that ring with me understood exactly who I am. I am Java of Indonesia. I’m the man that beat Mito Miwa. I’m the man that beat Shuji Inukai. I’m the man that has dominated both sides of the globe for almost thirty years. Almost thirty damn years of my life and tonight I was supposed to become the first ever CWI Champion. That was what was supposed to happen -- but what happened instead? Conner Threepwood. That pissant. He happened. He stole my moment. He stole my Championship. So next month… Next month right back at the Fountain Square Theatre, I will be back. I will be back for Conner Threepwood. I will be back for the CWI Championship.”

The man from Indianapolis is in a different changing room than Java. The color of the walls are different, but it is set up the same. Threepwood is sitting on a chair. Sweat drips from his body. He is looking down at the CWI Championship that he holds in his hands. He looks up and looks at the camera.

Threepwood, “For fifteen years, I have been a professional wrestler. I have traveled all over the world to become the best wrestler than I can be. I have done everything that I could do -- all with one goal in mind. I have wanted to be the man. I have wanted to be respected by my peers and by the fans. Tonight, in my hometown, I did just that. Tonight I became the first ever CWI Champion. I will carry this championship with pride and dignity. I will face any and all challengers. I will make this championship one of the most respected championships in the entire sport. My name is Conner Threepwood and I am the CWI Heavyweight Champion.”

Wow, 5/5 on the first show? Start at you mean to go on, I guess (famous last words, I'm notoriously bad at predictions).

Threepwood was an excellent choice for a first champ I think. He is a reliable champion to have whilst you figure out the abilities of the rest of your roster. Plus, he does seem like the exact type of hand you're known for pushing well!

Also, I think it was a brilliant idea to have those post show videos. It's an excellent way to set up an immediate rivalry/future match up, without problem.

I appreciate it! Conner, to me, made perfect sense. He's cannon from Indiana, so it makes sense to me to have the hometown boy win the title first while everyone else gets established. There are a lot of un-established talent on this roster so as they find themselves he's good at the front.

I'm glad you liked the post-show videos. I ran them as post show segments (so that they would have ratings) with the idea being the old ROH DVDs (and a local Indianapolis company called IPW that used to run) where there would be backstage promos cut into the DVD. I wanted to make sure that I could build some angles and give the "Website" some content! I plan to make these semi-regular.

Pro Wrestling Reporter Update

O1E10IA.png

Greetings from the Schluchinski Stronghold for another website update. This time, I'm going to talk about the upstart Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis. It came as a surprise to me that Marv Earnest left Mid Atlantic Wrestling to not just book for another outfit, but run the whole thing. Marv is a very smart guy and a guy that I have known in a professional capacity for quite sometime. Marvin's Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis held its first show this past week. I wasn't there live, but I did watch the feed on their website. It was a solid first show and did more than I expected for an outfit that is built around mostly unknown talent that hasn't had a chance to perform fulltime for any mainstream operation.

Conner Threepwood was the star of the show from what I saw. His performance in the battle royal was clearly that of a ring general that was in charge and calling the shots. His time working for the Stone Family in Canada clearly gave him a command of the ring. It was also clear that they have really big plans for The Hangman (who many of you will remember as Texas Hangman. I'm glad they dropped the Texas portion of his name. Makes him more menacing.) The Hangman had the most eliminations in the match and he didn't take one bump, so clearly they were trying to make him look like a big deal. I would expect to see him protected in the coming months while they establish him as their main heel.

Rumor is also that they have a couple of guys under handshake deals that they haven't announced. I'm not sure who they are exactly -- the CWI locker room is being surprisingly-tight lipped (or they really don't know) about who the talents are. All I've been able to glean are that they have some sort of history with Marv Earnest. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't former NYCW or MAW talent that needs a job.

Back to the show. They drew seventy-two paying fans (though with comps for their wrestlers it looked like there were closed to 100 people in the crowd which gave the building a good environment. They were in a historic building in the Indianapolis area. I did some research on the Fountain Square Theatre. It's almost a century old and is in an area of Indianapolis that is on the come up. It doesn't get a lot of use -- I know it does some ballroom dancing a couple of times a month and some stuff with schools during the week, so if CWI can get it as a regular venue it will provide a cool environment.

The seventy-two paying fans paid $504 at the gate for an average ticket prize of $7. I've heard that merchandise wasn't great, a whopping $15, which is an abysmal 21¢ a person. They are going to need to get that number up in the future if they want to build a sustainable company. Merchandising is where small companies can really make up the difference, especially with almost no sponsorship money at this point.

They lost money -- I don't exactly know how much -- but they definitely lost money on this show. I'd guess close to five grand with all of the talent costs. They had 28 wrestlers on this show that they had to pay, plus two referees, Honest Frank and their agents and two managers. That's 35 people -- plus all the production costs -- that were on the payroll for their first show. That isn't sustainable in the long term. I'm sure it was just because they wanted to have the 20 Man Battle Royal on the show plus the first round of the Women's Title tournament. In the future, I expect to see less people on the individual shows going forward.

I expect that CWI should be able to build a good niche for themselves in the underserved Great Lakes area. With the support of the Confederation of the Territories behind them, they could develop into a nice little company pumping out quality shows. Time will tell.

That's all the space I have for this update. Make sure to keep your eyes on The Pro Wrestling Reporter for all your wrestling news and insider scoops.

[Ten Minutes Before Opening Bell]

I peaked out from behind the curtain at the Fountain Square Theatre that would be our home for this show and hopefully the foreseeable future. A couple of the wrestlers had brought some friends and family to the show. Ruby Reece brought her girlfriend. Talia Neema brought her mom. Jack Pryde brought some girl whose name he was sure to forget later, but they helped make the crowd looked bigger. I would be surprised if we hit a hundred people in the crowd. Not bad for our first show. I would love to have had more people in the building. More people means more energy which means the guys and gals get more immediate feedback. They can play off that crowd. This would have to do. I let the curtain close. Urena Frost and Sabrina Wells were in the ring right now. They were the preshow act. Both of their partners were in the women’s tournament, but they weren’t. I didn’t want them to feel left out so they got to go work for fifteen minutes while the people were coming in. It was a hard atmosphere to work in, but the fans that were here were responding to them. They were doing good for our first show.

Our show. My show. My God. This is my first show as the promoter. As the booker. As the guy in total control. What the hell was I thinking? I was an announcer. I was a lieutenant and here I was trying to pretend like I was going to be the general… I fast-walked towards the restroom. I couldn’t let anyone know that something was wrong internally. That my own self-doubts were creeping in. Who would want to follow a guy who didn’t believe he should be followed? Who wants that kind of leader?

I locked the bathroom door behind me and took several slow, deep breaths. I needed to get my heartrate under control. I needed to get my stomach under control. I felt like I was going to be sick. I was going to be sick…

[Ten Minutes After the Finish of the Show]

I couldn’t get up from my seat ringside. We called the show live at ringside, like Rip and The Stomper had always liked. It was how I was taught to do things. Being ringside and live provided the right atmosphere. We were in the moment with the wrestlers and tonight. Tonight was a moment. We had pulled it off. The lights didn’t come crashing down. The ring didn’t break. No one got seriously injured. No one got pissed off and got into a fight. No one started a riot. We had made it through and I couldn’t move.

For twenty-eight years, I had called wrestling action. Half of that was spent in Baltimore in front of a rapid group of regulars who loved Mid Atlantic Wrestling. I had seen many special nights, but I was just a part of those special nights. I was a cog in the machine that made them happen. This night? I had organized it. I had booked it. I had gotten the sponsors -- not many, just a barbecue joint that did the food and a board game store -- but I had gotten them on short notice. I had found the venue and gotten the insurance on it. I got the production people in place.

Maybe it was a bit arrogant of me, but I felt like this was my night. Sure, it was a great night for Conner -- he got to win the strap in the main event with some people he had known his whole life in the crowd. He got to win the strap less than seven miles from where he went to high school. It was a big moment for him, but he had had big moments. He had worked for the Stones and won the Tag Team Titles there on multiple occasions. He had wrestled in front of sold out venues with over ten thousand screaming people in them. This was a sentimental moment for him, sure. This was the culmination of a childhood dream for him, but his ass wasn’t on the line here. Mine was. I had given up a job in Mid Atlantic Wrestling. I had already been replaced by Jim Lou Freebush. A nice guy, a good announcer. He’d do good there, but that meant I couldn’t go back if this failed.

And while I knew we had lost money -- we hadn’t drawn enough people to cover the wage bill from this show, let alone the production costs -- the show was good. It wasn’t great. Nothing was going to win match of the year from this show. Hell, nothing would win match of the month or even match of the week, but we didn’t insult our fans’ intelligence. There was nothing silly here. Nothing over the top or blatantly fake. It was solid and believable and I knew that we would be back here again and that we would draw more fans next time.

I took a long slow breath. The fans had all filed out. I looked up and the boys were coming out to tear down the ring. All of them except Java -- I didn’t expect Java to come out to help tear down the ring. There was Conner, the champion, leading the youngsters out. There were Suzanne Brazzle and Steffi Chee and Steph Blake, all with close to twenty years experience, coming out to tear down chairs and help.

It was only one show. I had to tell myself over and over again. But in the moment, damn it if I didn’t feel invincible. I didn’t feel ordinary for the first time in a long time -- and that… That was worth it.

I haven't sat down to read yet. But I wanted to first tell you how excited I am to dig in.

Oh, and your visuals are disgustingly wonderful lmao Awesome as always!

Thank you. The vast majority of them were my wife! (Togg made the general website outline and the roster template). My wife made all the other pretty graphics.

Well dang now I'm going to have to add CWI to my private game just like I did with RMW. Awesome work man.

If you want to send me a PM, I can give you the database where I created CWI. It has all the other companies that are active in this game active as well.

B]Author's Note[/b]: One of my goals in this project is to make the game world feel alive, not just by narratives about people on my roster but every month updating the results of the rest of the COTT Territories. I want people to be able to feel like they know what's going on -- who the local champs are as well as the title changes in the COTT. I want the COTT to feel lived in and not just something that is referenced on my shows, but something that is living and breathing in this world. I know that it gives a lot of quick results to read in one post, but hopefully it allows you to track your favorite companies. It will also provide narrative jumping off points as guys can be brought in and their careers in other places referenced.

New Signings!

Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis is pleased to announce that it has signed two new young wrestlers to its roster. We would like to introduce you to them below.

yBWqNYi.jpg

Although American, Matt Blackburn has lived in Japan since he was 11 years old, the result of his father, an academic whose specialist subject is Japanese art, moving the family there in 2011. It was in Japan that Blackburn fell in love with wrestling, particularly the no-nonsense approach favoured by PGHW. Resolving to become a wrestler himself, the athletic youngster went on to become not only the first westerner to be accepted by the PGHW Dojo, but the first to complete the full training schedule and graduate. He made his debut for PGHW in the summer of 2019 and while he goes through the famed Japanese 'Young Lion' system, Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis will be his first American professional wrestling exposure.

"California Cool" Charlie Corner is a Los Angeles native who was trained in the American WWA facility. Good looking and with a lot of natural charisma, the 6'6 has 'future star' written all over him. Since turning pro he has been working the independent scene in and around LA, and has shown himself to be a solid brawler who works hard. His finisher, the Corner Cutter, is an explosive face crusher that he hopes is going to bring him a lot of success here in Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis.

Both men are expected to make their in-ring debuts for CWI at Hoosier Hysteria later this month.

Main Event - CWI Championship - Java vs. Conner Threepwood ©

Java is here because he has some name value and can put your new champ over, once that's done he's gone.

Women's Championship Semi-Final - Suzanne Brazzle vs. Talia Neema

Talia is too green to hold the strap, giving it to an experienced worker, will allow her time with the strap and time to train the other girls.

Women's Championship Semi-Final - Steffi Chee vs. Steph Blake

Conversely,Steffi is getting there with age, she was winding down 4 years ago, she's knocking on retirements door now. And she has some name value to give to Blake.

Jason Patterson & Matt Blackburn vs. Bred for Battle w/ Andrew Gibson

Name team vs. no name team.

Nate DeMarcus vs. Charlie Corner

Charlie is the FNG, he loses and he has to pay his dues.

The Hangman Open Challenge - ??? vs. The Hangman

His challenge he wins.

Pepper Pelton vs. The Masked Mauler VII

No reason other than the Mauler is in of itself a name.
