"The East Side Assassin" Sayeed Ali versus "The Indiana Strangler" Conner Threepwood

This is really clever booking. Allows Ali to win a match, and show he can beat 'The Indiana Strangler'. Then when they fight for the Title, Ali is instantly a threat. Or I'm completely wrong and Conner wins. Either way, should be great! :D

Really enjoyed Railroad City Rumble, especially Foxxy's arrival, sugar. Those dastardly Canadian Blondes!! Great to see them in the Main Event though. I remember booking a great feud between Flash and Ozzie back in the day. They could be really good hands for you here.

"The East Side Assassin" Sayeed Ali versus "The Indiana Strangler" Conner Threepwood

Sayeed gets his first win beating Indiana's Pride and Joy. Ali is on a warpath and his determination will lead him in this. Ali is built from the street so an unsanctioned match is his playground. I see a Title Shot in his future, and Threepwood having an arc of having to deal with defeat for the first time.

I was asleep or mostly asleep. Battle at the Crossroads was tomorrow and I wanted a good night's rest so that I could be at my best for show day. We had a good show planned. Sayeed Ali and Conner Threepwood would headline in a match that was going to be our most brutal and vicious one yet. Steph Blake would defend the championship against Foxxy LaRue. I had big plans for Foxxy. Really big plans. Plans for her to be the face of our women's division and battle the War Maidens for quite some time. It was going to be a good show.

I was brought out of my slumber or near slumber state by the ringing of my cellphone. I picked up the phone and looked at it. I didn't recognize the number but it was a 726 area code. San Antonio.

"Hello." I said sleepily into the phone. I really wanted to be in bed. It was late. Way too late for a phone call.

"Is this Marvin Earnest?" A serious female voice on the other end said.

"Yeah. Who's this?" I asked as I blinked several times and sat up in the dark bed.

"It's Farrah." She said quickly. Farrah Hesketh. Owner and promoter of Queens of American Wrestling. I didn't have her phone number. When I talked business with QAW, I usually talked to Boss Man. He was the booker so I dealt with him. Farrah and I had only spoken on some COTT conference calls.

"Oh. Hey. What can I do for you?"

"I know it's late." She said. "But something happened tonight."

Uh oh. She had ran a show tonight. Foxxy was on their show. So was Felicia. "What happened? Is everything okay?"

"No. Everything's not okay." I could hear her sigh on the other end of the phone. "We had a four way for the title in the main event. It was going really well. It was tearing the house down. The people were really into it."

I cut her off. "Yeah. I get it. What happened?"

"Emma did a spinning back fist. It's a move she does all the time. She has the MMA gimmick and it really works in her favor and she hit the spinning back fist on Foxxy. Got her square in the temple. Foxxy went down. I thought she was just selling. I was calling the match ringside. I was thinking that damn Foxxy did great...But she didn't get back up. She wasn't selling."

A million thoughts ran through my head. If she was calling me this late at night and Foxxy didn't get up. I immediately thought of the worst.

"After the match." She continued, "We rushed her to the hospital. She's concussed really bad. Like, out for over a year kind of bad I bet. The doctor said he hasn't seen a concussion like that in years. She won't be at your show."

Obviously my first thought was of her health. "Well I'd hope not. Jesus. That's terrible."

She acted like she hadn't heard me. "But I feel terrible. I went ahead and got Alina America a plane ticket. She'll come in and work for you tomorrow. She'll fill in. I'd rather you not use her full time right now though."

"Of course." I said. I was grateful that Farrah was sending me someone to fill in so I didn't just have to cancel my semi main event. That would be helpful, but if Foxxy was out a year, I was going to need a new lead babyface female. Felicia was good but green, I wasn't sure I could count on her. Reece and Wells were a team and I didn't want to break them up. Frost and Neema were heels and I didn't want to split up the Maidens. I was up the creek.

"I have a couple of girls that you could use full time in the next couple of months if you need. We'll help you out."

Well that would make me feel better. But damn it... I was going to have to refigure out a lot of plans...

Saturday Week 3, September 2020

Live from the Fountain Square Theatre [indianapolis, Indiana, Great Lakes, USA]

57 people in attendance (down one from last show)

Commentators: Marv Earnest & Honest Frank

qSIrNZu.jpg?1Vaq1dgZ.jpg

Earnest, “Hello and welcome back to another exciting night of Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis. We’re back in the Fountain Square Theatre -- the home of Championship of Wrestling from Indianapolis for tonight’s action. I’m Marv Earnest and I’m joined in the broadcast booth by a man I once saw convince a homeless man to give him a dollar for a drink at the gas station -- Honest Frank.

Frank, “I was thirsty and had forgotten my wallet."

Earnest, "We have a hell of a line up tonight Frank, but we have an announcement for our fans regarding the Women's Championship match tonight. Originally, Foxxy LaRue was scheduled to wrestle Steph Blake for the CWI Women's Championship, but Foxxy LaRue sustained a serious injury tonight. In her place, former QAW Champion Alina America will be making her CWI debut and will be challenging Steph Blake for the title."

Frank, "Which I really don't think is fair, Marv. Steph Blake has spent a month training for Foxxy. Breaking down Foxxy's game tape. Getting ready for that. She shouldn't be forced to wrestle someone she isn't prepared for. She shouldn't have to put her title on the line just because her opponent got injured. I think that's a miscarriage of justice and I'm going to lodge a formal complaint."

Earnest, "You'll have to let me know how that goes. Plus, in our main event In a lights out, unsanctioned fight -- Sayeed Ali will be here to go against Conner Threepwood. It's going to be violent. We do not recommend letting your children watch this match up. All that and so much more tonight at Battle at the Crossroads!"

Young & Wasted versus The Player's Club w/ Lucinda Lush

The young team from FCW was up against CWI’s new young team. The Player’s Club look great together. The young high flying team started off strong with lots of fast paced action. They weren’t well known in the area -- though they’ve been seen on WrestleWorld so some of the audience in attendance knew who they were. A distraction from the glammed-up Lucinda Lush helped Jack Pryde take control of the match and he and Corner never let up. They worked deliberately and impactfully and Jack Pryde hit the PrydeFall to get his team the win -- giving the Player’s Club a second straight win.

The Player’s Club w/ Lucinda Lush defeated Young & Wasted in 7:08 by pinfall after Jack Pryde hit Taylor Norton with a PrydeFall.

Both men are smiling and they walk to the ring to shake hands with the members of the crowd. They don’t get in the ring to talk, they just walk back up the other side.

Ralph Liotta versus "Lone Star" Samson Sharpe w/ Mark Hyatt

Last month, Ralph Liotta was in the ring with The Hangman and this month, the former MAW Tag Team Champion was in the ring against former RIPW Champion Samson Sharpe. The big blonde Texan, with the big mustache, was very physical with Liotta as Hyatt jumped up and down on the outside. Liotta did his best, but Sharpe’s physicality -- very reminiscent of fellow cowboy Pistol Pete Hall -- was too much for him and when Sharpe hit the Full Nelson Bomb.

Samson Sharpe w/ Mark Hyatt defeated Ralph Liotta by pinfall after a Full Nelson Bomb.

"Spicy" Pepper Pelton versus Acid

A solid match up here as veteran Acid was with a youngster still trying to make a splash. Acid went out of his way to make Pepper look good -- internet rumors are that Acid requested this match, that he wanted to work with Pepper and make the big man look good. Acid bumped a lot for Pelton. He took a big back suplex with the same gusto that he would have taken it for one of the big heavyweights in Japan (not that he wrestled many of them). Acid did hit a flurry of offense and slow the match down and Pelton did a good job selling, but in the end, Pelton blocked an Acid Rain Bomb and hit the Fisherman’s Suplex with the bridge to get the victory -- the biggest victory of his young career.

Pepper Pelton defeated Acid in 11:31 by pinfall with a Fisherman’s Suplex.

Wells, “And we are tired of them. We’re tired of fighting off attacks. We’re tired of all of the war Maidens. Ruby and I want to be the best tag team in wrestling. We want to wrestle Lilly and Rose for the World Tag Team Titles -- but to get there, we’ve got to end this thing.”

Reece, “So next month, right here in the Fountain Square Theatre, we want a match. We’ve already gone to CWI management, we’ve gone to the Indiana State Athletic Commission and the Confederation of the Territories to get it cleared. Next month, in the main event, it will be us versus The Femme Fatales, winner gets a shot at the COTT World Women’s Tag Team Championship… But this isn’t just any match… It will be a STEEL CAGE match! Felicia Luck versus Kate Lilly

Kate Lilly, one half of the World Women’s Tag Team Champions, was in singles action. Debbie Rose was off the show with a sprained ankle. Her opponent was the young woman from the Boot Camp. Felicia Luck has been impressive in QAW and has been impressive so far in CWI -- she continued that streak here against the tag team specialist. Lilly is a very good singles wrestler -- but she is used to being a tag team wrestler and there was a spot where she looked for the tag for a partner that’s not there. Felicia Luck hit a big barrage of strikes before Lilly countered with some strikes of her own. Lilly went for a hurricanrana, but Luck reversed it into a pin and got the quick three count.

Felicia Luck defeated Kate Lilly with a roll up.

The Dog Soldiers versus Genesis w/ Andrew Gibson

The Dog Soldiers and Genesis locked horns in a six man here. Dreadnought was not in the match -- and it made sense as to why with Wild Red Stallion going on a rampage. It’s been clear from his pairing with Ace Youngblood as well as how he has been booked so strong, that Wild Red Stallion is being built to be a major foundational piece of the company. Youngblood continues to impress as the veteran and Monteiro took some great bumps for James Diaz -- the standout of his trio. Martin and Sinner have yet to really catch fire, either in singles or in tags, but they are both very green. Gibson was good on the outside, but his group failed to get it done with Chip Martin ate a Lakota Cutter and that was it.

America definitely looks like a star and the crowd was super excited to see the Hispanic wrestler who has been slowly positioned to be the face of QAW. Steph Blake sold being super angry at being asked to defend against America. She complained that she hadn’t had an opportunity to prepare for her, that it wasn’t fair for her to be asked to wrestle an opponent she wasn’t ready for -- but Bret Graveson told Blake it was either get in the ring or forfeit the title. Begrudgingly, she got in the ring and the match started. It was a good match -- America was a really good opponent for Blake and the two women went at it and worked a good pace throughout. America is primarily a technician -- though she can do a bit of everything and in this match she did. She consistently got the better of Steph Blake. She was a bit quicker. A bit better on the mat and even was a bit better when it came to brawling. Multiple times Blake took powders out of the ring to try and slow it down. Eventually, Blake was able to use a closed fist -- right in front of the refere and it almost got her disqualified as Graveson started to call for the bell, but decided better of it since it is a championship match. Blake cursed -- as if she wanted to be disqualified and then America rolled her up and almost got the three. America went to the top rope and Blake cut her off and used the positioning to bounce America off the ropes and down to the mat with a Slingshot DDT.

Steph Blake defeated Alina America (subbing for the injured Foxxy LaRue) in 18:15 by pinfall after a Slingshot DDT. This was Blake’s third successful defence of the Women’s Championship.

"The East Side Assassin" Sayeed Ali versus "The Indiana Strangler" Conner Threepwood

The main event was next. The fans in attendance were warned that this was an unsanctioned match and that it could be very violent. There was no time limit. No disqualifications. The only way to win was by pin, submission, or referee stoppage if he felt someone could no longer defend themselves. Ali came out to “Gangster Rap Made Me Do It” by Ice Cube and the crowd was on him from the second he walked out. He had attacked their hero. He had left him bloody and declared war and now he was here for a fight. Threepwood came out in fighting attire. No championship belt. Just jeans and a sleeveless shirt. Make no mistake, this was a fight. From the moment both men were in the ring, it was vicious. Threepwood is normally a technician, but not this night. This night, he was a brawler trying to fight for what he believed in, for his pride. He was up against a man whose wheelhouse was violent fighting though, and Ali quickly went into his pocket for a chain that he wrapped around his fist and used to open Threepwood up. Bad. Threepwood’s shirt was quickly stained in blood and the two men continued to fight around the ring. Ali scared a couple of kids from the front row away and stole their chairs and set them up to bodyslam Threepwood on. He hit a big running elbow off the ring apron onto Threepwood. Threepwood fought back and sent Ali into the guardrail hard. They fought into the crowd where security made sure fans stayed out of the way when Ali fought back to the sparsely populated bleachers and DDTed Threepwood onto them. He jumped off the bleachers for a big splash -- but he never once went for a pin. Never once. He just brutalized Threepwood. He hit a second DDT on the bleachers and then lifted a bloody Threepwood up and hit him with a Death Valley Driver onto the floor and referee Jez McArthur had to step in and call the match because Threepwood was clearly knocked out and not able to defend himself. Ali took a handful of Threepwood’s blood and smeared it on his own face and chest. He looked like a maniac. He stood over Threepwood an invading conqueror.

Sayeed Ali defeated Conner Threepwood in an Unsanctioned match in 15:50 when the referee was forced to stop the match when Conner Threepwood could not defend himself.

Finally, I want to just thank Historian for consistently writing these shows. Whether predicting, or reading as i did for the first couple, it is great fun during lockdown

Well thanks man. I'm glad you're enjoying what I'm putting out. I'm having a lot of fun with CWI!

Ralph Liotta versus "Lone Star" Samson Sharpe w/ Mark Hyatt

Never bet against the cowboys in a Historian diary

I do love me some cowboys baybay!

Love their new pics ;)

Really enjoyed Railroad City Rumble, especially Foxxy's arrival, sugar. Those dastardly Canadian Blondes!! Great to see them in the Main Event though. I remember booking a great feud between Flash and Ozzie back in the day. They could be really good hands for you here.

Thank you for the new pics! And thanks for the comments on the RCR. I really liked Foxxy and had big, big plans for her. She was going to shock the world and win the title here, but the fates had other things. I love the Canadian Blonds -- I had them figured in right at the start but figured a brand new company couldn't get people to travel from Canada for the show until they'd proved themselves a little bit so I had to wait.

I enjoyed reading Railroad City Rumble, when I was reading the Threepwood interview, for a moment I wondered if Sayeed Ali was actually supposed to be there lol. So good job suspending my disbelief. :)

Well that's high praise! Thank you!

Not gonna lie, when I got midway through that first segment, my heart stopped for a second.

I thought we had another Jebediah on our hands.

Well I'm sorry to make your heart stop! I hope we avoid another Jebediah. that broke my heart!

You....this...this is abomination.

This is what I look like right now:

I want to thank everyone who has read this so far. At the time I write this, we are closing in on 14,000 views in the little over a month this diary has been going on. I appreciate all of the support. I also appreciate everyone who voted for me in the Veteran Diary of the Month for April. No Ordinary Men picked up the win there so it's off to a good start! I'm really pleased with how this diary is shaping up and the stories that are beginning to be told. The next couple of months are a lot of fun in the game -- I've run all the shows through December so that I could be ahead for writing purposes and I like the direction it's going.

This was the first show in our third prediction contest and we had a good turn out! 16 people predicted on the show and no one was able to grab the perfect score. This was actually the show that had the most misses. There were seven matches announced for the show, but due to Foxxy's injury I did not count that match as part of the scores, so all of the scores are out of six!

As always, the scores are sorted by number correct and then by the order that they were posted.

Prediction Results for Battle at the Crossroads

  1. Smw88 -⅚ -83%
  2. KingSlender - ⅚ -83%

I hope you all enjoyed the show! As always, comments and feedback are always welcome, whether in public or in a PM.

My pleasure. Let me know if you ever need any alts doing (easy things only :D)

Shame about Foxxy. I've had my share of injuries throwing spanners in my plans last minute already in my diary, but I'll PM you about them. I say already, but I'm six months in where I'm writing (somehow).

Loved the Main Event. Ali is a star, and the way he won was excellent. Someone mentioned suspending disbelief in Conner's promo, and I had the exact same thought!! Towards the end of this match, I found myself willing Conner to his feet to fight back. I actually wanted Ali to win when the match began because I'm a fan of his. I also love the render by King Bison. By the end I was rooting for Conner!! Such a masterful job of taking me on that journey in a short paragraph!

Jolly good show.

I guess we'll get no more sugar with Foxxy gone. :(

The American Gold debut was so awkward it reminded me of Jericho's comeback in like 2012 when he wouldn't speak. This was even more awkward since Chee was in the ring ready for an interview lol.

I didn't expect Reece and Wells to challenge the Fatales in a Cage. Reading it I was expecting a 2/3 falls match, maybe ban others from ringside or something. But tag team cage main event is gonna be a spectacle. Not sure who's gonna win.

Threepwood didn't have the fighting skills to take on Sayeed in his element. If that was a wrestling match Threepwood would've had him but Sayeed has now dominated the face of CWI. What will come next? :3

<p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="rqaDjDy.jpg?1" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/rqaDjDy.jpg?1" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

The gym was quiet around Nate DeMarcus. He was friend's with the owner and the owner had actually given him a key so Nate could work out in peace. It wasn't that he was super famous, but in this section of Baltimore he was well known. He had been wrestling for seven years. He'd moved from Rhode Island to Baltimore to train as a pro and had never left. He had worked hard in his career to improve. He and Tyrone, a fellow Bootcamp graduate, had developed into a marquee tag team for the company. They'd won the Sam Keith Classic and twice won the Mid Atlantic Tag Team Titles. Nate liked teaming with Tyrone, but he didn't want to just be a tag guy.</p><p> </p><p>

He pushed the incline higher on the treadmill. He liked doing his cardio in silence. No headphones. Just the sound of the machine running and his feet bouncing off the tread. He was trying to increase his cardio so he could go even longer in singles matches. At six-feet-five inches and two hundred eighty five pounds, Nate was big and strong and athletic. He had all the tools. Greg Sluchinksi said he wasn't charismatic enough. He said he was missing that 'It' factor to be a singles star, but he was bound and determined to prove him wrong. He looked like a star, he knew that. He could wrestle like a star. He worked a powerhouse style. He liked to throw his opponents around and brawl. It was very effective.</p><p> </p><p>

His size fifteen feet pounded on the tread. Beads of sweat rolled down his face. His jaw tightened and unenlightened. He inhaled through his nose and exhaled through his mouth. Sam Keith had made sure to set him up with a job in CWI. Marv's company. Nate liked Marv well enough. He was a nice guy. An old-school, no-nonsense kind of guy. Marv didn't want gaga on his shows. He didn't want fluff. Marv took his business seriously. Nate liked that. Nate wasn't old-school, per say. He was just a guy who was going to do what he was told. That was his job. Follow instructions. Deliver what was asked. Marv wanted to feature Nate as a singles act, so Nate was trying to do what was asked. When Marv asked him to put the kid Zippy over, Nate didn't complain. He did what was asked.</p><p> </p><p>

He increased his speed and tempo. His legs strained to keep pushing himself. His breathing intensified. He was on a heavy-duty treadmill. One built for a guy his size. He wanted more speed. More explosiveness. He wanted his comebacks to be bigger and stronger. To power up and be able to make his comebacks that much more dramatic. Nate knew he was the number two babyface in CWI. Conner was the top dog. Conner got the sympathy. He was the hometown hero, Nate wasn't. He wasn't upset about that -- but he wanted Conner's spot. He'd never be the hometown guy, but Conner was eight years older than Nate. Conner had been on TV in Canada and had a name but also head nine more years of wear and tear on his body. Conner also had an average look. He was two hundred and twenty or so pounds. He was in good shape but didn't have an impressive physique. That's probably why the audience liked him so much. He looked every bit like one of them. They believed they could <em>be</em> Conner Threepwood. They couldn't be Nate DeMarcus. He was bigger and stronger and better built -- that wasn't ego, it was just the fact. Most of the people in the audience weren't ever going to look like him -- so he had to work harder to connect with them.</p><p> </p><p>

Nate knew that the long-term plans were for him to have a run with the Mid American strap. That's why he put Zippy over. Zippy was set up to be the Indiana Champion. Zippy was a good young heel and Nate was happy to put him over, but Nate was hungry for more. He looked up at the large clock on the wall. He only had ten more minutes before the gym opened up and he would no longer have the silence for his run. He bent forward a bit to try and finish strong. He increased the incline more. It was hard to keep a good pace running up hill. His legs burned and were begging for a break, but Nate had to push past it. He wanted a top spot and to get a top spot, you had to be willing to outwork your competition. </p><p> </p><p>

Nate remembered a story that Jay Williams told about Kobe Bryant. He heard the story years ago. Jay Williams talked about showing up early before a game against the Lakers to get a workout in and Kobe was already there. When Jay finished, Kobe kept working out. After the game, Jay asked Kobe why and Kobe said, "<em>I wanted you to know that it doesn't matter how hard you work because I'm willing to work harder than you.</em>" That was Nate's motto. He had some God-given abilities. He had size that was natural. You couldn't work hard enough to be six-five, that was a gift. He had the genetic predisposition to be able to put on muscle mass. That was luck, but Nate was also always going to work harder than anybody in the room. No one was going to be in better shape than he was. He took training seriously. He followed a 6-6 training schedule. Six hours a day. Six days a week. Sunday was the Lord's day so he didn't work out on that day.</p><p> </p><p>

Every other day was this. Two three hour workouts. One cardio and resistance. One cardio and strength. He wouldn't be outworked. No one would say Nate DeMarcus was lazy or didn't give it his all. The owner of the gym, his friend, walked in. He didn't say anything. They knew the drill. Nate looked at the time and pulled his headphones on. </p><p> </p><p>

He wasn't afraid of hard work and the work was just beginning.</p>

Philippe LaGrenier took a long drag of his cigarette. He knew he shouldn't be smoking. It was bad for you. It had long term health effects. It could kill you. He knew all this as he took another long drag. What was he going to do? It was his one vice. He wasn't a heavy drinker. He didn't pop bills or do drugs. He smoked cigarettes. He closed his eyes. 2020 had been a good year for the French-Canadian. Black Maple Championship Wrestling and Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis had both given him jobs. He was featured in both. Used in both. He was having an opportunity to resurrect a career that should have never stalled.</p><p> </p><p>

"F*****g Alex DeColt." Philippe thought to himself. He didn't actually know if was Alex who wanted him gone from CGC. He'd never know, but he'd always suspected. Alex didn't like anyone getting popular enough to challenge the DeColts for the top spots. That's why they were out of business and had to merge with the Stones and Alex was in hiding somewhere licking his wounds and his old attached-at-the-hip buddy Dan was running some low-rent organization in Vancouver. Sure, Philippe knew it wasn't Dan's fault. Dan had actually been nice to Philippe but Philippe liked seeing people that had wronged him fail. Alex DeColt and the whole DeColt family had wronged him. </p><p> </p><p>

They had trained him. He had been a good student. He could do a bit of everything. He could brawl. He could wrestle. He could talk. He had good size. He was handsome. He spoke two languages fluently. He looked good on a poster. All the things you'd want in a star, but where had that gotten him? Up until 2020, no where. He had been toiling away for nine years on the independent scene. Nine years. He was angry about that. Why hadn't the Stones offered him a job? Probably because they were afraid he'd get over on their old-ass crew. When the merger happened, he thought he was finally going to get an offer. Instead, nothing. It was a damn travesty.</p><p> </p><p>

He took another drag and let the smoke push through his nose. He had moved to the USA. To Seattle. He liked Seattle. Sure, it wasn't close to either of his places of employment but it was a good town. Had a great fish market. He had a good little apartment. He was featured in two companies on different sides of the border. He was motivated to make all of the major companies that had looked him over for the past nine years look like fools. Not one call. Not from USPW or SWF or TCW. Nothing. He'd make them all regret it.</p><p> </p><p>

Especially Alex DeColt and the whole DeColt family. "If you'd kept me. You'd have bought out the Stones." He thought as he pushed his cigarette into the ashtray and took a drink of his latte. "I'll show you all." He muttered out loud to no one in particular. "I'll show you all."</p>

One of my favorite things about territorial wrestling and companies like OVW and SMW were the spot shows. Small little shows that could be a place for wrestlers to work on new stuff. The show itself isn't designed to advance big storylines or anything like that. I liked it enough that I've added it to the schedule and will present it like this. A news post on the company website without it being a big ordeal. It will always be a throwaway show, so it's not designed to raise company popularity but will allow me to let some of our younger talents have a place to shine and develop and narratively will allow me to tell the story of Marvin booking out spot shows with local community groups. I can try out matchups, I can let guys who are green develop here on shows, bring veterans in to work with youngsters in a way that makes sense because, if you're doing a charity show or a fundraising show, you could bring in an old name or two to either win or lose but be a one off that doesn't take up big time space on major cards.<p> </p><p> I also must give a special thank you to <strong>KingSlender</strong> who actually came up with the name the Spice Rack when I was saying how I wanted Pepper Pelton to do a torture rack. He didn't invent a new spot here or anything, I just created the move in the database and assigned it to him so he could have it.</p></div></blockquote>

"You've got to be kidding me, Nigel." I said as I looked up at him. He came all the way here to tell me in person, which I respected, but I still couldn't believe the news.

"I'm not." He replied. There wasn't a hint of regret or sympathy or even empathy in his voice. Nigel Harriet, better known to the wrestling world as Honest Frank, was in fact an honest man. He was also an impeccably dressed man. He always had on a collared shirt and pressed pants and his hair was always combed perfectly and his face well-groomed. He never looked like he wasn't put together. He stood in front of me in the Fountain Square Theatre just a couple of days before Showdown in Naptown. He had come in early to give me the news.

"But you're factored in here. You commentate. You agent. The boys like you. I like having you around. You have the respect of our audience." I was trying to make my case but I wasn't doing it very well. I wasn't used to this part of the job.

"Yeah, sure. That's all fine, but you're not going to pay me $120,000 a year for the next couple of years." He wasn't wrong, but that part pissed me off to hear.

"Well no. I can't afford that but I didn't know this was all about money for you. I thought you had more character than that."

"Oh go to hell, Marv. Of course it's about money. I'm fifty years old. I've spent over half my life in this business. I never made great money, decent money, but nothing close to this. I never made six figures a year. Even when I was working for DAVE for those three years. I made okay money, made could-wrestle-full-time money. They're offering me enough money that wrestling can be my fulltime job. I can save. I can invest. If I do a good job, I can get renewed and stick around for a lot longer." My old friend was living up to his pro wrestling pseudonym. I knew I shouldn't be mad at him. He was doing what was best for himself.

He was right. I knew that, but damn it knowing something consciously wasn't the same as reacting on it that way. "I thought you were different. I thought you were in this with me. That you wanted to build something. Build a sustainable company and give back."

"No." I didn't expect to hear him say that. "I like the next generation of stars, but this is my profession, Marv. I'm in this business because I love it and want to make money at it. I'm a good commentator and a good agent. I know that. I'm going to do great work in Rhode Island. I'm sorry to leave you like this, but I can do Showdown in Naptown for you. I can finish up there and then I'll be gone."

I still couldn't believe that he was going to work for the Eisen family. They had offered him a deal and wanted him to go work in RIPW. They wanted him to be a veteran that could help the guys. He'd be good at it. As much as he said no just now, I also knew that he liked talking to young guys and helping them put their matches together. "No, don't worry about it."

"Marv, come on. I'm a man of my word. I came here to do the job you hired me to do. I'll finish up this week." He was trying his best to be professional but I wouldn't let him.

"No. It's okay. You're moving on so I'd rather just find a guy now who can be in the booth long term and not go into the Thanksgiving show trying to find a replacement."

"Whatever. It's your business." I should have been nicer to Nigel. He was doing the right thing. He was being professional, but damn it I didn't care.

"Thanks Nigel." I said dismissively and that was probably the end of a friendship that had lasted for a long time. Or, at least a strain on it that I was going to have to apologize for later, but I wasn't always great at apologizing.

Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis can announce that Mark Hyatt has had his managerial license with the State of Indiana temporarily revoked. It came to the Indiana Atheltic Commission's attention that Mr. Hyatt had used some political connections of his mother to get around some of the rules required to be a manager and as such, his license will be suspended upon investigation. Mr. Hyatt will be in the broadcast booth with Marvin Earnest at Showdown in Naptown and if there is a change in his managerial status, we will update you here. His current clients, The Wolf Pack and Samson Sharpe have been released from their obligation to him.

Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis will be returning to the Fountain Square Theatre on Saturday Week Three of October for Showdown in Naptown. After the events of Battle at the Crossroads, there are a lot of questions heading into this show. The show will be headlined by the first cage match in CWI history when Ruby Reece and Sabrina Wells team up to battle the Femme Fatales and settle the score once and for all. The two teams are 1-1-1 and this match will decide the number one contender to the COTT Women's World Tag Team Championships, as well as bring to a close a rivalry that has been going on for ten months.

The Mistress of the DDT Steph Blake will defend her Women's Championship against the young upstart, Felicia Luck, who is fresh off of wins against Black Diamond and Kate Lilly. Conner Threepwood, who has not been medically cleared to wrestle will be in attendance to speak about his Unsanctioned match from last month. All that and so much more!
