Saturday Week 3, September 2023

Live from the Fountain Square Theatre [indianapolis, Indiana, Great Lakes, USA]

Commentators: Marv Earnest & Mark Hyatt

Earnest, “Hello everyone and welcome back to the Fountain Square Theatre for another exciting night of professional wrestling action as presented by Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis. The air has a crisp chill to it and fall looks like it is right around the corner. It’s a perfect time to come indoors and spend some time with the greatest sport in the world, professional wrestling and no one presents professional wrestling any better than right here at Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis. Tonight, the men and women of CWI Battle at the Crossroads. The stakes have never been higher and joining me to call all of the action is my broadcat colleague who has now officially been banned from more bars in Broad Ripple than vapes, a man who is trying to bring Tweed back to the forefront of American consciousness and a man’s whose mother told me that if I cut him off on a broadcast again I’d be facing her team of lawyers, Mark Hyatt!

Hyatt, “Thank you for that rousing introduction Marv and I’ll have you know that I’ll soon be allowed back into any bar in Broad Ripple once we get some miscommunications worked out but that will come after this show. Tonight is all about pro wrestling and it is all about finality. We will have closure tonight. Nate DeMarcus and Funky Fedora are finally going to put this thing to bed and finally Funky Fedora can save CWI from Nate DeMarcus and send him up the road.”

Earnest, “For those of you that don’t know and are watching this without any sort of information on the lineup, in our main event tonight Nate DeMarcus and Funky Fedora clash in our main event. Winner gets the Mid American Championship. Loser gets a pinkslip and a one way ticket out of CWI. The stakes couldn’t be any higher for that match. It’s the championship versus employment. Someone is going to be champion and someone is going to be looking for employment and that is our main event. Ashley Keith and Lucy Stone-McFly will be wrestling for the Women’s Championship in their fifth meeting this year. Lucy leads their seven match series two matches to Ashley’s one and one draw. Will Ashley even the series tonight or will Lucy take a commanding three-one lead?”

Hyatt, “And you’re not even mentioning the Bunkhouse match! For the first time in CWI, to teams will step into the bunkhouse. They’ll have their jeans and boots and belt buckles and there will be weapons at ringside for them to use and the goal -- beat your opposing team up and get the W. The Taggs and Texan Justice are going to destroy each other and I can’t wait!”

Earnest, “All of that and so much more on Battle for the Crossroads so let’s go ringside to Taylor Gordy for the first match’s introductions.”

Luis Torres versus "Dapper" Danny Draper

Luis Torres has been on the CWI roster since December of 2021 and with the exception of a couple of battle royals, he hasn’t been able to break onto the main roster. He’s a graduate of Lucha Libre de Phoenix and the twenty-five year old is an excellent technician and striker. He’s had some great performances in Edinburgh and this was an opportunity for him to break out of the Edinburgh pack and make a statement against “Dapper” Danny Draper. Draper came to the ring looking like a million bucks and the 25-year-old Canadian could be a big star for CWI. This was a solid opening match between two men who were playing the opening match role correctly. While both men could have opened up their engines and tore the house down, they kept it simple. The smaller Torres started out working holds -- you know, wrestling. Draper overpowered the smaller man. He hit several big strikes, including several big uppercuts that rocked the smaller wrestler who, despite being trained at a lucha style, works a style that works more in non-lucha environments. Draper hit his D-Struction (Pedigree) to get the three count.

In a decent match, Dapper Danny Draper defeated Luis Torres in 9:13 by pinfall with a D-Struction.

The Bootcamp came out to a good amount of cheers. Felicia Luck is still incredibly popular even though she hasn’t had a big 2023. She and her partner Lucy Trigg look like they have something important to say as they get into the ring.

Luck, “2023 hasn’t been the year that Lucy and I were hoping for. We’ll be the first to admit that. We’ve been in a slump. It happens to every athlete at some point. You go through ups and downs and me and Lucy have been in a down, but we’re ready to come out the other side. We’ve got our eyes on the Tag Team Titles. We’re going to be watching The Femme Fatales and the San Diego Girls closely, because we’re coming for those belts. We want to be Tag Team Champions and we’re announcing our intentions tonight…”

Luck is cut off by the arrival of someone very familiar to CWI audiences and she is not alone.

“The Monolith” Tameka Sky is here and she’s got “Dangerous” Debroah Young with her. The two massive women are as big as many male tag teams. Neither of these two women say anything. They just look at Felicia and Lucy and smile twisted smiles before turning around and exiting.

Matt Blackburn versus "The Traskmaster" Anthony Trask

Blackburn was back in familiar territory in this match, working to get someone over. With his Japanese schedule making his CWI bookings inconsistent but he’s a good young talent to put in the ring with someone you want to establish and former USPW star Anthony Trask is one of those men. The Traskmaster could be a star on the independent scene. An incredibly charismatic grappler, he’s also a very good technician and this was a technical match. Blackburn and Trask went hold for hold and really told a technical story. Trask was focused on the lower back of Blackburn -- he hit several backbreaker variations and worked several holds that strained the lower back of the PGHW Historical Japan Champion. Trask came off the second rope with a knee right into the lower back that set up the Texas Cloverleaf. Blackburn tried to fight out of it but he was unsuccessful and was forced to sumbit.

In an exceptional match, Anthony Trask defeated Matt Blackburn in 11:42 by submission with a Texas Cloverleaf.

Mark Hyatt rose from the announce desk and made his way into the ring. He was smiling big as Taylor Gordy joined him inside the ring.

Gordy, “Mr. Hyatt, we were told that you have a big announcement for the CWI fans tonight.”

Hyatt, “I do have a major announcement, but it’s not for these idiots in attendance. I don’t give a damn about them! I care about having an opportunity to get back to doing what I planned to do. My mother has secured me a contract of a wrestler. A wrestler who I plan on taking to the top of CWI and to the top of the COTT. A man who I’m certain is going to be unstoppable. Let me bring him out.”

Hyatt turns towards the back and he and Gordy wait for a long moment before the curtain is pushed back to reveal…

BQIPzLC.jpg

Ox Mastadon! The former three time FCW People’s and Tag Team Champion, the four hundred pound monster of a man came walking out. He looked like a man on a mission as he marched to the ring.

Gordy, “Ox Mastadon! What is he doing here?”

Hyatt, “He is here to prove a point. He is here because my mother secured his contract. I’m here because this man is 400 pounds and he is unslammable. Absolutely unslammable. There is no one here in CWI, there is no one in pro wrestling who can lift this big man up and slam him to the ground. I’m so confident, my mother is so confident, that we are putting up $15,000. $15,000 of our family’s money to any person who can slam this monster. I guarantee you that no one is going to ever be able to and Ox is going to be on a short trip to the Mid American Championship.”

Jimmy Chipolata versus "The Oklahoma Thunderbolt" Jason Patterson

In another match that featured the debut of a former USPW talent, the young Bostonian Jimmy Chipolata went toe to toe with the recently-returned Jason Patterson. Patterson was on the initial roster of CWI and had a mediocre run before he was released. It’s been a couple of years and he’s being given a second chance. He’s had some solid performances on the Edinburgh shows and this was a chance for him to show what he could do on the main shows. This was a solid affair. The crowd liked seeing the young Jimmy Chipolata -- who was clearly coming in as a babyface. He had a name from being on national TV but was still young enough that he hadn’t been over exposed or beaten into powder. This was a snug match up but it was also kept simple so as to just let the fans get used to seeing Jimmy Chipolata. Patterson hit a couple of good moves, but Chipolata was able to come off the top with a Flying Body Press that got the three count.

In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, Jimmy Chipolata defeated Jason Patterson in 10:13 by pinfall with a Flying Body Press.

Zippy Deverell, who lost the Indiana Championship last month when Mr. Grappling prevented him from using the Coal Miner’s Glove to knock out Wild Red Stallion, comes walking out. He does not look like a happy man.

Deverell, “I thought I was done with Mr. Grappling. I thought we had finished this thing between us, but I must have been wrong. I must have been mistaken. I must have missed something because last month… He took her from me. For the second time he took her from me, but this time he didn’t have the decency to take her himself. He took her and let some other man ride off with my love like he was some sort of conquering hero. Mr. Grappling, you came after me and that’s going to be the last thing you ever did. I’m going to run you out of CWI or I’m going to beat you so bad that you run and hide like a scared boy. See, I’m a desperate, miserable man Grappling. You took from me the thing that I love. You took her from me without a care for how it would make me feel. You didn’t care about how lonely I’d be without her. You didn’t care about how it would eat me up inside to not have her with me. You didn’t care. You’ve never cared but I’m going to make you care. We’re going to settle this, Grappling. One day. One day soon. Me and you are going to step into this ring and we’re finally going to end this and I’m going to put you in the ground and smile and you will know that if you come for me you better finish the damn job.”

Deverell threw the microphone down and exited.

The Women’s Tag Team Championships were on the line next as the two teams that were in the finals of the tag team tournament almost a year ago met once again -- this time if the Femme Fatales lose theyll never get a shot so long as the San Diego Girls are champions. These two teams know each other very well and are excellent duos and this was no exception. They put on a thrilling tag team contest that followed all of the traditional rules of tag wrestling. It was one of two tag matches on the card tonight and with the other being a bunkhouse-style match they were able to really build the traditional drama of the tag match. Frost and Neema controlled the match for a long while, really putting the pressure on Izzy -- who used her diminutive style to garner sympathy. The young kids in the audience really like Izzy and they showed their desire to support her. They begged for her to make the tag and several times she came close, but the Femme Fatales kept cutting her off, kept manipulating the referee to be out of position so that they could keep Coco from getting the tag. Neema hit a wicked Crescent Kick that almost took Izzy’s head off. Neema looked for another kick, but Izzy rolled under it and dove to Coco. The tag was made and Coco came in like a house of fire. Big right hands and elbows and European Uppercuts and dropkicks. The comeback was big and Neema and Frost took really big bumps off all of Coco’s moves. Coco came off the top for her Flying Bulldog on Urena Frost, the legal woman, but Neema springboarded in illegally and caught Coco with a knee under the chin in mid air. The crowd popped for that as Urena Frost immediately locked in The Finnisher (Britt Baker’s Lock Jaw) and Coco was forced to submit and we have new Women’s Tag Team Champions!

In an exceptional match, Femme Fatales defeated The San Diego Girls in 16:01 when Urena Frost submitted Coco Malloy with The Finnisher after blatantly cheating. Femme Fatales win the CWI Women's Tag Team titles.

Urena Frost carried the match in terms of in-ring performance.

Best of Seven Series, Match #5

qG46qME.jpgmmWyz8z.jpg8RiRMpW.jpg

Ashley Keith versus Lucy Stone-McFly ©

The fifth match up of these two did not disappoint. This was the story of two women who knew each other very well. The match started off with a series of holds and counter holds, telling the story that these two women knew each other’s moves. They have had four matches before this, with Lucy coming out on top twice and Ashley once and a time limit draw once. They’ve spent a lot of time in the ring with each other in 2023. There were occasional strikes, but it was mostly holds and some suplexes and trying to get the advantage over each other -- until Lucy started to pull away. She hit several knee strikes to the abdomen and then a snap suplex that she floated over and locked in a front guillotine. She really wrenched in the guillotine until Keith was able to wrestle out of it. LSM went to work after that, and Keith played the role of the woman trying to find a way to gain an advantage -- and finally she gripped Lucy’s tights and sent her head first into the middle turnbuckle. This allowed Keith to take control. She hit several suplexes. She locked in a Dragon Sleeper that almost put LSM away, but Lucy was able to fight her way out of it. LSM hit a flying Mafia Kick that turned Keith inside out and then LSM set up for the Delorean Driver, but Keith was able to slip over the shoulder to be behind her. She hit a Dragon Suplex that she immediately followed that up with the Proton Lock (Muta Lock) and forced the submission to win the Women’s Championship and make the series 2-2-1.

In an exceptional match, Ashley Keith defeated Lucy Stone-McFly in 24:11 by submission with a Proton Lock. Ashley Keith wins the CWI Women's title.

Texan Justice versus The Taggs w/ Haley Buck

The semi main event was a different kind of match than CWI was used to. Weapons were brought out from the back and placed around the ring (since CWI isn’t a place that would have weapons just underneath the ring). There were chairs and tables and kendo sticks and bullwhips and cowbells and all sorts of things that were stuffed into aluminum trash cans. Both teams made their entrances and both teams were wearing street clothes. Jeans and boots and belts with big buckles. This was old school wild west -- and with Texan Justice being from, well, Texas, and the Taggs from the frontier of Montana, this fit their styles and characters. Haley Buck kept her distance, sipping her shine but trying to stay out of the way for the most part. This was ‘Tornado’ rules and referee Bret Graveson was tasked with having to keep an eye on the match. It helps that falls only count in the ring -- so even though the teams could brawl anywhere, they had to finish the match in the ring. This was a fight. There weren’t holds. There were no arm drags or wrist locks or hammerlocks. There were punches and kicks and headbuts and sending an opponent into the bicycle rails that separate the fans from the ring area. There were steel chair shots to the back and kendo stick shots and violence. All four men bled and the crowd was roaring their approval. They wanted blood. It was like they had been transported from Indianapolis to the Circus Maximus and were clamoring for the gladiators to hurt each other. The Taggs managed to isolate Samson for a while after Hoss took a back drop INTO the ring post and landed in a heap. They beat Samson down and suplexed him through a table that cracked on impact. The blood lust was real, it was visceral. The crowd scattered when Hoss got back to his feet and launched a lariat that sent Kalder over the bicycle racks into the crowd. Hoss turned towards Wolfie and he launched himself for a big boot. Wolfie ducked out of the way and for the first time ever, Haley Buck took a bump when Hoss Handley drove his boot into her jaw and flattened her. The crowd exploded seeing her finally taking a bump. The fight came back in the ring and Samson was back up and it was two on one with Kalder still on the outside on the other side of the railing. Wolfie couldn’t stop himself from taking a Lariat from Samson Sharpe and then Hoss hit him with a Piledriver and Texan Justice survived the Bunkhouse.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Texan Justice defeated The Taggs in a 2 vs 2 - Bunkhouse match in 16:09 when Hoss Handley pinned Wolfie Tagg with a Piledriver.

Loser Leaves CWI

Funky Fedora versus Nate "the Great" DeMarcus ©

The main event of the evening. Winner leaves with the Mid American Championship. Loser leaves CWI. The stakes couldn’t be higher and both men wrestled like this was a match they couldn’t afford to lose. The feud had been building to this moment. Nate controlled the early minutes of the match. His power was too much at the beginning and he brought the fight right to the bleach-blonde Fedora. Nate took Fedora down with a double leg and tried to lock in an armbar -- something very different from Nate’s arsenal, but he was showing that he was trying to win and win early. Nate hit a stalling Vertical Suplex and then followed that up by lifting him high into the air for a Gorilla Press Slam, but Funky reached down and raked the eyes. That allowed Fedora to seize control. He hit a series of chops and then a neckbreaker to bring Nate down to the mat. Fedora stomped at Nate and even broke out The Strut®. Fedora hit the ropes and hit a big knee drop into the back of Nate’s neck. He worked a chinlock for quite some time -- working a hold, you know, wrestling. He broke the chinlock to pull Nate up and hit another neckbreaker. With Funky’s two big moves being the Slingshot Back Suplex and the Top Rope Knee Drop, he was trying to soften Nate up for them both. He hit a third neckbreaker and went for the pin but only got a two count. Fedora argued with senior official Jez McArthur but McArthur refused to back down. Fedora pulled Nate up and lifted him high in the air and brought the big man down for a brainbuster and another near fall.

Funky was getting frustrated that he couldn’t put Nate away and the crowd was behind Nate. The cheers were getting louder. Trying to urge Nate back to his feet. Urge the champion back on offense and Nate started the big hulk up. The classic babyface I’ve-been-getting-my-ass-beat-but-I’m-firing-up hulk up. Funky’s eyes went wide in the classic heel sense and Nate launched into the comeback. Big right hand! Big left hand! Big right hand. A short arm clothesline and then a scoop slam. The crowd was roaring with every shot that Nate was giving Funky and Funky was selling big. He got extra air when Nate hoisted him up for a slam. He took a bump off of each of Nate’s punches. Nate lifted Funky high into the air for the Gorilla Press Slam. He dropped him to the mat and the fans knew what was coming. Nate always followed up the Gorilla Press Slam with the Snap Tackle and Nate took off into the ropes to build up momentum and he flew through the air. He hit Funky and Funky took a big bump -- a big bump right into Jez McArthur. Jez took a big bump off of colliding with Funky. Nate made the cover, but Jez was out cold and there was no one there to hit the three. Suddenly, Nate was pulled from off of Funky by…

yHITgNJ.jpgGJsFLgZ.jpg

The Ring Generals! The PGHW Glory Crown Tag Champions. The crowd started to boo as the former COTT World Tag Team Champions started to assault Nate DeMarcus. They hit him with a Double Brainbuster and then Marv Statler lifted Nate’s legs up for the Wheelbarrow. Dean Waldorf nodded and Nate was lifted him and they worked together to hit their trademark Wheelbarrow Bomb -- the Wheelbarrow Bomb that has brought them eleven tag team championships/accomplishments. Nate was laid out and Marv went over to Funky. He shook Funky back conscious and Funky’s eyes went wide and then he smiled. Marv pointed to the top rope and Funky Fedora climbed up to the top and came off with the Top Rope Knee Drop that added insult to injury at this point and then made the cover. Marv and Dean hopped out of the ring to boos as Jez McArthur slowly came to and crawled over to count the one...two...three..

In an exceptional match, Funky Fedora defeated Nate DeMarcus in 28:23 by pinfall with a Top Rope Knee Drop. During the match we also saw Dean Waldorf run in and attack DeMarcus, and Marv Statler also attack DeMarcus. Funky Fedora wins the COTT Mid American title.

After their shock arrival at Battle at the Crossroads, CWIWrestling.com can confirm that The Ring Generals, the reigning PGHW Glory Crown Tag Champions, former COTT World Tag Team Champions, five time NYCW Tag Team Champions, PSW Tag Team Champions, and the 2018 winners of the Elite Tag Team Series in PGHW have signed contracts with CWI.

"Marvelous" Marv Statler and "Deadly" Dean Waldorf are both eighteen-year pros from the city of Chicago. They grew up believing that pro wrestling needed to be a big deal in the Great Lakes region and with the success of CWI, the two men have decided to throw their hats into the mix at CWI. They arrived in shocking fashion, helping Funky Fedora win the Mid American Championship for the second time and end Nate DeMarcus' CWI career. What do they have planned for their time in CWI? We will have to find out!

Author's Note: The following is an interlude, just a little narrative that I wrote and felt like posting before I post the show.

2cfwIcJ.jpg

He looked out the window above the kitchen sink at the snow-capped peak of Granite Peak. It was early. Wolfie never liked being up this early but there was work to be done. It was the price he and Kalder paid for his father continuing to support their lifestyle. The Miller Ranch -- of course Wolfie and Kalder weren’t really “Taggs”, it was a professional name, a tongue in cheek reference to their love of tag team wrestling. In truth, Wolfie’s name was Wolfgang Miller -- his father’s choice in name. He and Kalder had grown up here in the shadows of the Beartooth Mountains in Stillwater County, Montana. They had grown up easy. Their family-owned 50,000 acres of pristine Montana land. They raised cattle and horses. They had stakes in oil and natural gas companies. They had never wanted for anything. Wolfie took a drink of his coffee to prepare himself for the morning chill that awaited him. When he graduated high school, his father had given him a small house on the property. He had done the same for Kalder later and their sister Breanna later. They all had their own cabins. Their own privacy. Wolfie had the best view in his opinion. He could see Granite Peak -- the crown jewel of the Beartooth Mountains. He had a very small stable where he could house his prized bay colored Shire horse that he had named Old Dollar after John Wayne’s horse.

Wolfie took another drink of his coffee and his thoughts were interrupted by the ever-familiar sharp knock of his brother Kalder. They had drawn the morning ride duty. Every morning, a pair had to ride the fence line of the ranch to check for damages or tracks that might indicate illegal access. It was a repetitive chore but it was a chore they did without complaint. They had shocked their father when they told him they wanted to be wrestlers. He had expected them to graduate high school and either go to college or immediately work full time helping to run the family ranch and business. Wolfie was the oldest. He was supposed to take charge, but he had grown up getting NOTBPW and CGC on the television. He hadn’t grown up on American wrestling. He had grown up idolizing the McWades and the DeColts and the big rough tag teams that came through both Canadian companies. When he and Kalder were little, they practiced all the moves they saw. Powerbombs and body slams and clotheslines. They had pulled the couch cushions onto the ground. They even made their sister wrestle even though she hated it.

Wolfie finished his coffee and walked to the door. He reached up to the hooks next to it and pulled down his sheepskin coat off the hook and pulled it on. He opened the door and Kalder stood there. He had Duke and Old Dollar already saddled and ready. Wolfie grabbed his shotgun and made his way to his horse.

pi2WXKO.jpg

“Morning.” Kalder growled at his older brother.

“Morning.” Wolfie replied as he slid the shotgun into its scabbard and then mounted Old Dollar. His Ted Flowers saddle was comfortable. He had taken good care of it. It was easier to ride when you had a comfortable saddle.

“Sleep well?” Kalder asked and Wolfie just nodded. The two brothers were best friends. They had always been. There were two years separating in age and when Kalder had been born Wolfie had never been more excited. He was a big brother. He had someone to play with and teach and boss around and they had been practically inseparable. They didn’t need to talk much. They said little in the mornings and they rode in mostly silence. Their breath puffing steam into the crisp Montana air.

The horses moved in step. Moved carefully. Their father had not approved of them being wrestlers. He didn’t think that wrestling was proper business for his sons. They were supposed to be gentlemen ranchers. They were supposed to lead the family business. He had reluctantly agreed to allow them to pursue their dreams so long as they returned to the ranch to do work, to continue to learn the business. So they did. He didn’t understand their desire to pretend to get beaten up (though sometimes it wasn’t pretend). There was work to be done around here. Animals to raise. Fires to put out. Decisions to be made. They could be doing that. Instead, they were going to Los Angeles and Indianapolis. They were bleeding and making other people bleed. They were snarling and menacing and looked like the second coming of the Wood “Brothers” or the McWades.

“You think dad’s ever going to get used to this?” Kalder asked his brother as if reading his mind.

“Maybe.”

“You think he’ll ever come see us?”

“If we work for Rocky Mountain maybe. Otherwise, not likely. I don’t see him traveling to watch us play fight.” Wolfie was honest. He didn’t believe his father would ever want to se his two sons wrestle. He still talked derisively about the business at family meals. He still told people in town that his sons were just going through a phase. He didn’t see the legitimacy, but he had never been up with them late at night watching the gladiators do battle. He had never seen Dean and Dallas McWade against the Wood Brothers on video tape. He had never scoured the internet for footage of The Peak Brothers against the New Wave in DAVE. He had never dreamed of being in front of a packed arena, bleeding and sweating and hearing the crowd. Their dad didn’t think so grand. He thought of expanding the ranch. He thought of fence mending and controlling the wolf population. He didn’t dream of fame, just money. Wolfie and Kalder were different.

Wolfie’s eyes scanned the fence line. He knew every inch of this fence. He had ridden this path thousands of times. It was familiar and easy. He exhaled and looked over at Kalder. His little brother looked equally consumed by thought. Wolfie was no great moral philosopher. He wasn’t in pro wrestling to make a statement or be an artist. He liked it. He got to feel the adrenaline rush through his veins. He got to masturbate the emotions of the crowd. He got to feel like a big deal -- and he liked that. He liked feeling like a big deal. He got to travel to new places and sleep with new women and live the rockstar life. That was enough for him. One day, he knew that he and Kalder would be the top tag team in wrestling. He knew they had it/ The kind of thing that old-timers who talked too much talked about in the locker room. Wolfie only half listened. He respected them, but he knew the path he wanted to cut for him and his brother. Knew their desired destination. They didn’t need money. Their father still paid for everything. He didn’t have to understand or agree with their decision to support them. He was a good man like that.

Wolfie loved pro wrestling because he loved being a star. He loved feeling superior. He loved the eyes on him and the attention. IPW and CWI were going to make sure his bed never grew lonely and his thirst for attention never went unquenched. One day, he’d move on to bigger and better things and bigger and better beds with better women and more money. For now? He was satiated.

“I’ll race you to the bend.” Wolfie said and spurred Old Dollar into action before Kalder could answer. Kalder cursed and spurred Duke into action and the two brothers were kids again -- kids who had the world by the balls and were invincibile. Wolfie laughed as the crisp wind ripped at his hair and beared and his jacket flapped behind him. He rose and fell in the saddle in perfect time with Old Dollar’s gait. He had the whole world in front of him. So did Kalder. They were princes who would be kings. They’d own a ranch. They’d be stars the world over. The world was theirs for the taking and they were going to take everything they could.

Earnest, “Hello everyone and welcome back to the Fountain Square Theatre for another exciting night of professional wrestling action as presented by Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis. Tonight, the World Tag Team Championships are on the line for only the second time in CWI history as the reigning champions Bred for Battle put the titles on the line against The Texas Express. Plus a Four Way Elimination Tag Team Match for the CWI Tag Team Titles, the Women's Tag Team Titles are on the line and the Indiana Heavyweight Championship is on the line. It is a jam packed night of action so let's go ringside."

Fresh off his debut last month, the young Bostonian Jimmy Chipolata came walking to the ring. He was receiving a bunch of applause. The fans liked seeing the former USPW wrestler on their shows. Chipolata was not presented like a big star in USPW -- his record there before coming to CWI since 2020 was 2-142, but he had been on TV a lot and that gave him some name value.

Chipolata climbed into the ring and looked poised to start talking, but before he could he was interrupted.

sCnYeMn.jpg

The “Traskmaster” Anthony Trask came walking out. He was already holding a microphone.

Trask, “Don’t even start, Jimmy. I don’t know why you’re here. I don’t know why they would hire you. A guy like you. You don’t belong here. You don’t belong in this building. You don’t belong into this sport. You’re just a waste of space and I’m going to run you out of Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis and this sport. You hear me Jimmy? I’m going to run you out of this sport.”

Jimmy looked at Anthony standing there. A long, hard look. He raised his microphone up.

Chipolata, “I hear you, Anthony. You’ve been a pain in my ass the entire time we were in Florida. You’ve been the biggest pain in my ass. You arrogant, self-righteous, pompous, asshole. I’m here in CWI to prove that I belong in this sport. To prove that I’m better than my record in USPW would have you all believe. I didn’t live up to my potential. I’ll be the first to admit it. I didn’t live up to the athlete I know I am. I’m here to rebuild. To reclaim. You want to stand in my way? I’m begging you. BEGGING you to give me a try.”

Trask just smiles.

Trask, “Oh this is going to be fun, Jimmy. I’m going to enjoy breaking you.”

Anthony dropped his microphone and exited.

Brute Kikuchi versus Wild Red Stallion ©

Brute Kikuchi, most known for his time in PGHW where he was twice a Glory Tag Crown Champion with Bison Yano but also a former International Champion, was making his big main roster debut here. In February of 2021, he broke his neck and subsequently had his BHOTWG (where he was working at the time) contract expire without being renewed. The muscular Big Heavyweight grappler took the opportunity to jump start his career back up by coming over to CWI. He was the first Japanese wrestler that was getting some extended time but the big man could be a valuable resource. He had a big opportunity here against the rising star Wild Red Stallion. This was a slow hoss match. Kikuchi is only 33 years old but his broken neck and the the decade and a half he has spent in the wrestling business has taken its toll on his physical abilities. He’s still a capable wrestler, but that neck injury clearly derailed his career. This was a physical match that made up for Kikuchi’s physical shortcomings with a lot of smoke and mirrors from big hitting moves that each man was able to sell to buy time in between spots. The strikes were hard and the fans could believe that these two were in a real fight. Stallion hit Kikuchi with a Running Big Boot that sent Kikuchi tumbling over the top rope to the floor. Stallion followed him out of the ring and the two men continued to hit each other as referee Andre Lane, assigned the opening contest, was forced to count both men out.

In a bout that had great heat and good wrestling, Wild Red Stallion drew with Brute Kikuchi in 9:36 following a double count out.

Tameka Sky and Debroah Young -- two women who appeared to announce their partnership last month, came marching to the ring.

Sky, “I don’t know why The Bootcamp is getting a Tag Title shot. I don’t understand it. I’ve been the most dominant women’s champion in CWI history. I was unstoppable. I reigned supreme over this division and then it was taken from me. So I called up my friend here. Called up Debroah Young who needed a new place to go. See, she was too violent for Canada. She got kicked out of Canada for being too violent. She ain’t allowed back on that side of the border. They don’t know what to do with a woman like her or a woman like me. We’re too big. Too strong. Too Raw. Too Aggressive. They don’t know how to handle us, but we know how to handle us and whoever wins the Tag Titles tonight are going to find out first hand that they ain’t women enough to handle us. We’re the baddest bitches in wrestling. And the whole women’s division is about to be put on notice.”

Young didn’t say anything, she didn’t have to. Sky carried the promo for the two of them and then they walked to the back.

Daughters of Lucha Libre versus The Hooligans

The first of the marathon of tag team matches pit the very capable Daughters of Lucha Libre against the almost-equally capable Hooligans. The two teams were tasked with having a solid tag match, but one that still allowed for plenty of storytelling in the three tag matches that would follow this one. The women accomplished that by staying pretty basic and having an open, babyface match up. Both teams got in plenty of offense. It was back and forth and each team got to play to their strengths. Montero looks like a star waiting to burst out of the tag pack -- like her cousin Gino when he was partnered with his brother. She looks like she could be the top woman in a company and she hit several good high flying moves -- including being the one to get the fall after the Lucha Legacy -- which is an assisted blockbuster (essentially a blockbuster where your partner has the opponent on their shoulders).

In a decent match, Daughters of Lucha Libre defeated The Hooligans in 13:35 when Esperanza Montero pinned Helena Hooligan with a Luca Legacy.

The new Mid American Champion, for the second time, Funky Fedora comes walking to the ring. He’s not alone though. He’s flanked by The Ring Generals. The three men are all dressed to the nines. Fancy suits, watches glittering on their wrists glittering. Fedora cradles the Mid American Championship. The Ring Generals had the PGHW Glory Crown Tag Championships. They climb into the ring.

Fedora, “What did I tell you? What. Did. I. Tell. You? I told you I was going to run Nate DeMarcus out of CWI. I told you that I was going to once again be Mid American Champion and here I am with the Mid American Championship. Here I am with The Ring Generals -- the PGHW Glory Crown Tag Champions. Champions. And baby, it feels good.”

Fedora is all smiles.

Fedora, “This is what is happening in pro wrestling. This is excellence. This is what pro wrestling is all about. Look at these two men. The Ring Generals. The best tag team in pro wrestling today. They have been successful everywhere they’ve gone. They’ve done nothing but win championships. They dominated American pro wrestling for a decade and now are dominating Japanese pro wrestling and are back. Back here with me. And look at them. Custom tailored suits. Rolex watches. Three men united by our desire to win titles and make money. Because there are three things we care about in life. Winning. Money. And breaking hearts. Am I right fellas?”

They smile and laugh and nod.

Fedora, “Of course I’m right. But we’re not alone. There’s one more of us. There’s one more guy here who drives a Cadillac. There’s one more guy here who wears custom suits and wears Rolex watches. And he’s about to come on down.”

“Dapper” Danny Draper came walking out. He was also wearing a suit and a Rolex and looked like a million bucks. He came walking to the ring to join the other three men.

Fedora, “You’re looking at the new shot callers here in CWI. You’re looking at four men who are going to control this company. We’re the measuring stick. The standard. We look good and we wrestle better. We make the most money. We live the best lives. We are what’s happening. Just like the cars we drive, we are the standard of the world. We are the Cadillac Four.”

The Bootcamp versus The Femme Fatales ©

The Women’s Tag Team Titles were on the line in the second of four big tag team matches. Last month, the Femme Fatales finally became Women’s Tag Champions when they defeated The San Diego Girls. This month, they were in the ring with former CWI Women’s Champion Felicia Luck and her partner Lucy Trigg. This match followed the standard tag team format. The Bootcamp controlled the beginning of the match. Luck and Trigg have really melded as a team. Their time training together at the Mid Atlantic Bootcamp before it closed. The Femme Fatales, as best friends, have been one of the best working teams anywhere. Urena Frost continues to be a workhorse, continues to be impressive and the rumors about her leaving for a bigger stage seemed to only fuel her to deliver more in this match. When she and Talia cut off Trigg -- they put Trigg in full sell mode. Trigg was the weak link for her team -- and the weak link of her team. She took the beating from the Femme Fatales -- including taking several double team moves that rocked her. Trigg was able to counter a headkick from Talia Neema with a kick of her own that allowed her to make the tag to Felicia Luck. Luck came in with fire that would make Sam Keith proud. She hit with heavy strikes. Hard strikes. Frost and Neema took a beating from Felicia Luck. She hit both Urena Frost and Talia Neema with Lucky Strikes that turned them inside out. Lucy Trigg came into the ring -- even though she wasn’t supposed to, and she and Luck hit Urena Frost with a Hard Knocks, a 3D, to get the pinfall victory and become new Women’s Tag Team Champions.

In an exceptional match, The Bootcamp defeated Femme Fatales in 14:29 when Felicia Luck pinned Urena Frost with a Hard Knocks. The Bootcamp win the CWI Women's Tag Team titles.

In terms of in-ring work, Urena Frost was head and shoulders above everyone else. Lucy Trigg was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance.

In a video package that is clearly meant for the home video audience -- though the audience in attendance could see it on the flatscreen TVs -- one on either side of the entryway -- in the building. This was a video hyping next month’s Last Man Standing Match between Mr. Grappling and Zippy Deverell. Footage was shown from their three previous matches. The first match at Circle City Classic III, Zippy Deverell standing over an unconscious Mr. Grappling after he was Spike Piledrove on the outside. The Coal Miner’s Glove Match where Grappling busted Deverell open wide with Deverell’s Daddy’s glove. Then Zippy winning back the Indiana Championship at the past School’s Out, but then Grappling stopping him from using the glove to cost him the Indiana Heavyweight Championship against Wild Red Stallion. This has been one of the hottest feuds in wrestling over the past year and a half and it looks like it is finally coming to a head at Thanksgiving Turmoil next month.

The Dog Soldiers versus American Gold versus Texan Justice versus The Dynamite Express ©

The CWI Tag Team Titles were on the line in the third straight tag team match of the evening. This one was the only multi-team match, with four top teams competing in an elimination match up for the titles. The Dynamite Express won the titles from Texan Justice back in June -- and Justice, after surviving the Bunkhouse match last month, looked to reclaim the tag straps. American Gold have twice been tag team champions and look to win a third time whereas the Dog Soldiers look to finally cross the hurdle and win the tag belts. They have twice been World Six Man Champions, but they’ve yet to hold collective gold here in CWI. There was a lot at stake in this match and the four teams wrestled like it. They had plenty of time to build the drama of the match. Unlike most companies, when CWI puts on a four way tag team match, one member of each team is in the ring at all times and they tag in and out. It was a tall task for senior official Bret Graveson -- his first month on the job as senior official -- to draw a match like this but he didn’t shurk from the responsibilities. He was on top of his game and really helped the four teams keep the match going. Each team got an opportunity to shine. Texan Justice were the big rough and tumble Texas cowboys that hit hard and controlled the early portion of the match whereas American Gold were the hyper-athletic team that were just hard to stop. The Express were the veterans who understood ring position and how to keep themselves out of trouble and the Dog Soldiers were the babyface underdogs who took a beating.

Maliek Chamberlain hit a Gourdbuster on Hoss Handley to pin the big cowboy and eliminate Texan Justice -- which put The Dog Soldiers against two heel teams that both wanted to be the ones to eliminate them. The Dynamite Express and American Gold’s desire to be the team that got the next elimination ultimately was their undoing as they ended up fighting amongst themselves instead of working together and Marcus English hit a Tornado DDT on Syd Collier and pinned him and the Tag Team Champions were eliminated! The Dog Soldiers were left with American Gold. They have developed a rivalry over the summer and this was a continuation of it. When we were down to these two teams, we had more of a traditional tag match. American Gold controlled it and several times they looked like they were about to get their third CWI Tag Championship, but Monteiro -- who was taking the beating, fired up and delivered several big shots to create some space and tagged in Ace Youngblood -- who came in like a rocket. He had chops galore for everyone. He hit that Flying Tomahawk Chop on Marcus English and got the pinfall and The Dog Soldiers had finally won the Tag Team Titles.

In an exceptional match, Ace Youngblood and Roger Monteiro defeated The Dynamite Express, Texan Justice and American Gold in 26:44; the order of elimination was Texan Justice first, then The Dynamite Express, and finally American Gold. Ace Youngblood and Roger Monteiro win the CWI Tag Team.

Lucy Stone-McFly versus Ashley Keith ©

For the sixth time, LSM and Ashley Keith found themselves in the ring with one another. By now, the two women knew each other incredibly well and this was another chess match. The first several moments were a back and forth battle of wits before LSM was able to gain control. Instead of trying to work holds, LSM as trying to turn this into a strike battle -- something that Ashley Keith did not seem prepared for and she powdered out of the ring to try and buy some time. She wanted to create some space and give herself a moment to breathe. Ashley took her time -- using up almost every ounce of Kessie Lee Walker’s count before she got back in the ring, but she immediately rolled back out. She was trying to frustrate LSM and it seemed to work because Lucy came out after her and Ashley ran away and LSM gave chase. Ashley rolled back into the ring and when Lucy followed it provided the opening for Ashley to go to work. Ashley was able to settle in and try to set up the Proton Lock, but LSM continued to be equal to it. It was back to being a chess match and the crowd was loving every bit of it. LSM was able to make the big comeback and even hit the Delorean driver -- but Ashley was able to kick out just before the three count. Lucy went for another Delorean Driver, but Ashley slipped out of it, took her down and locked in the Proton Lock for the submission and the first defence of her championship and the lead in their best of seven series.

In an exceptional match, Ashley Keith defeated Lucy Stone-McFly in 19:18 by submission with a Proton Lock. Ashley Keith makes defence number one of the CWI Women's title.

The Texas Express versus Bred for Battle © w/ Andrew Gibson

The Texas Express have been waiting several months for this opportunity -- ever since they put away American Gold at Circle City Classic IV, they’ve had their eyes on this moment. The World Tag Team Champions. Bred for Battle have held the titles for just over a year -- winning them last October in Edinburgh, Indiana. Coming into this match, Bred for Battle has had thirty-four successful defences of the World Tag Team Championships. They have not been pinned as a team since May of 2022 when they lost the CWI Tag Team Championship to American Gold -- and in fact, since forming their team in 2020 they have only suffered one pinfall loss as a tag team -- that’s to American Gold. They have been almost unbeatable, unstoppable and they were coming into this match with incredible momentum. The Texas Express has had a lot of momentum as well and this was a main event, big fight feeling tag team match. On a night where there were three other tag matches of some sort -- two women’s and the four way elimination tag, these four men had to be different than the other matches but still deliver the goods. They were able to do so with a match that was built around Bred for Battle isolating Cooper Christie from Turk. Diaz and Dreadnought have both turned into very good big men workers. Diaz looks to be the more polished of the two while Dreadnought looks like he could be the bigger star. Diaz and Dreadnought tossed Cooper around. They hit him with a bunch of double team power moves and Cooper was really taking a beating. Dreadnought came off of the second rope for a big splash and James Diaz hit a series of wicked headbutts.

Cooper Christie took the beating from the two big men and tried to stay alive, but Gibson had his warriors locked in. In between slams, Diaz and Dreadnought took turns locking in painful holds -- mostly bearhug variations -- designed to apply pressure to the back of Christie and further wear him down. Christie refused to surrender, he kept trying to fight out of it and it increased the violence. Turk tried to get involved several times, but Bret Graveson, in his first main event as the official Senior Official in CWI, kept Turk on the outside (and in fairness, he didn’t allow Bred for Battle to cheat, the two big men didn’t need to). Diaz hit a Buckle bomb on Christie that shook the ring. He tagged in Dreadnought and the big 310-pound Dreadnought came off the top rope for a Moonsault -- a Moonsault that he only breaks out on special occassions and a moonsault that was sure to put the match away but Cooper Christie rolled out of the way and the big man found nothing but empty canvas. The opening allowed Christie to make the tag to Turk Trenneman and the fresh Turk came in with all that Texas fire. Big right hands rocked Diaz when he tried to come in and stop Turk from getting settled in. Turk unloaded on Dreadnought. The big man took all of Turk’s moves and when Turk hit the ropes and came back for a Flying Cross Body, Dreadnought went down and the people exploded. Turk was fired up and Dreadnought rolled to the corner and made the tag before rolling out of the ring. Turk caught James before he came in the ring and dropped him with a dropkick. Dreadnought and Diaz tried to regroup with Gibson on the outside when suddenly Turk Trenneman soared through the air and landed on all three men. CWI doesn’t do a lot of dives -- they are reserved for big moments in main event matches and the people responded accordingly. Turk was fired up and he sent James Diaz back into the ring while Gibson and Dreadnought were laid on the outside. Diaz tried to cut Turk off -- and hit him with several hard strikes but Turk came right back at him.

Christie was up in the corner and Turk fired Diaz off with enough force that when the 290 James Diaz hit the turnbuckles the ring seemed to shift. Turk tagged in Cooper Christie and The Texas Express fired James Diaz off into the ropes. He came ricocheting back to them and Turk hoisted James up, high into the air and Cooper was there to catch him with his knees, hitting their Texas Rising, the Shatter Machine, and James Diaz looked out of it. Cooper made the cover and Bret Graveson slid into position and counted with all the drama he could muster. One...Two...Three. We have new World Tag Team Champions!

In an exceptional match, The Texas Express defeated Bred for Battle in 24:05 when Cooper Christie pinned James Diaz with a Texas Rising. The Texas Express win the COTT World Tag Team titles.

James Diaz carried the match in terms of in-ring performance.
