Saturday Week 4, November 2024

Live from the Fountain Square Theatre [indianapolis, Indiana, Great Lakes, USA]

366 people in attendance (an increase of 111 fans from last major show)

27,789 viewers on WrestleWorld (an increase of 8,357 from last major show)

Commentators: Marv Earnest & Grace Harper

The screen comes to life with a hype package for the Pay Per View/Event. It is set to the tune of Mud by Whiskey Myers.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/qacROOmmYMs" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The video flashes through all of the stars of HPW as well as all of the major matches tonight. The camera pans through the theatre where 400 fans have filled in (366 paid, 34 comped) and give the theatre a filled, raucous affair. There are signs and HPW t-shirts and then the ring with a brand new ring mat with the HPW logo dominating it and a ramp going right to the ring. The camera moves from the ring to the announce table where Marvin Earnest and Grace Harper sitting, ready to begin the broadcast.

qSIrNZu.jpg?1snF1S53.jpg

Earnest, “Hello everyone and welcome to the Fountain Square Theatre for an exciting night of pro wrestling action here on WrestleWorld. I’m Marv Earnest and I’m joined in the broadcast booth by my colleague, legendary women’s wrestler Grace Harper. Grace, what a show we have tonight. Eight big matches, including five title fights. Thanksgiving Turmoil is looking like it could be the best night of pro wrestling action HPW has ever seen.”

Harper, “It certainly could be Marv. From the top of the lineup to the bottom, any one of these matches could steal the show, but my eye is on the main event where Nicky Champion and Funky Fedora will climb into the ring with the Mid American Championship on the line.”

Earnest, “It’s been almost a year since Nicky Champion joined HPW and it is his first title shot. Funky Fedora has held the championship since September of 2023. For fourteen months, he has stood atop the mountain in HPW as the standard-bearer. The man to beat. Tonight, he faces perhaps his biggest challenge. But that’s not all. The Ring Generals, the World Tag Team Champions, put their World Titles on the line against Mr. Grappling and Sandman Winks. The All Action and Women’s Championships will be unified into one title as Talia Neema and Yvonne Ericks step into the ring with each other for only their third singles match this year. They are one and one against each other, who will win the rubber match? Plus, the Tag Titles are on the line when the Dynamite Express defends against the Texas Express and so much more tonight. It is truly a jampacked lineup tonight.”

Harper, “We’ve been waiting three months to get back to the Fountain Square Theatre, Marv, and you’re about to see why. I know that I speak for every wrestler in the locker room area that nights like tonight are why we got into the sport. We have our largest crowd in history here at the Fountain Square Theatre. We have a brand new ring and entryway. I’m excited.”

Earnest, “Our first match tonight is one of two traditional turmoil matches. Two teams of four will meet in the ring. The last person standing wins it for their team. These are always a hit with our audience and I know the eight women in this match all want to be survivors. They all want the notoriety that comes with surviving. Let’s go to the ring where Taylor Gordy is waiting with the introductions.”

Black Diamond, Frankie Carmello, & The Daughters of Lucha Libre versus Ruby Bloodstone, Akari Kawashima, SUPREME Yoshida, & Sophie Steele

The opening match pit eight women who were all looking to break out from the pack or reestablish themselves as major players in the women’s division. The babyface side of the match controlled the bulk of the match. They scored the first elimination when Black Diamond hit her Belly to Belly Suplex on SUPREME Yoshida and eliminated her. Right after that, Akari Kawashima came running into the ring but got caught with a Belly to Belly Suplex and eliminated. Esperanza Montero got the elimination over Ruby Bloodstone and this left Sophie Steele with a four on one. She was able to eliminate La Hija de Phoenix, but Black Diamond was able to score her third elimination when she hit Sophie Steele with the Belly to Belly Suplex for another big elimination.

In a decent match, Black Diamond, Esperanza Montero, Frankie Carmello and La Hija de Phoenix defeated Ruby Bloodstone, Akari Kawashima, SUPREME Yoshida and Sophie Steele in an Elimination match in 9:40; SUPREME Yoshida was eliminated first, then Akari Kawashima, then Ruby Bloodstone, then La Hija de Phoenix, and finally Sophie Steele.

Black Diamond stood in the ring as the dominant member of her team. Frankie and Esperanza, the other two women left, went to the back so Diamond could have her moment in the spotlight. Diamond was handed her half of the Women’s Tag titles and she raised it up for all to see. Suddenly, the lights went off.

The lights came back on and Black Diamond was not alone in the ring.

rRvuKrz.jpgpxyxDbw.jpgX7z6nXZ.jpg

Hermanas de Pestilenece were there and the three face-painted luchadoras stared at Black Diamond. Diamond immediately dropped her title and readied herself for a fight. The pink-faced Hermana, Senora Muerte, lowered herself to her knees in front of Diamond and smiled a wicked smile. Her arms outstretched. Her two cult-mates sprung in to action and both superkicked Diamond right under the jaw. Diamond dropped to the mat and Senora Muerte crawled over Diamond. She grasped at the Women’s Tag Title and licked it before lowering it over Diamond’s face. The lights went out again.

When they came back on, the Hermanas were no where to be seen and Diamond was still laying in the ring with the belt over her face as backstage personnel hit the ring to check on her.

Earnest, “I was about to compliment Black Diamond on a tremendous performance tonight but then that and I don’t know what to say.”

Harper, “I don’t either, Marv. The Hermanas de Pestilenece are here and clearly they have their eyes set on Black Diamond. I can only assume they want the Women’s Tag Titles? But maybe they want Black Diamond in general. I don’t know but they are incredibly unsettling.”

Earnest, “We’ve never had anything quite like them in Heartland Pro Wrestling. We will keep you updated as we can, but up next we have the second of our two Turmoil matches. The Montgomery Family --who have been unstoppable as a four-man unit go up against Deverell’s Army and Roy Goodlooks. Deverell’s Army have made it known that they want the World Six Man Championships -- a win tonight could really elevate their claim to a title shot.”

Harper, “It certainly could Marv, but a win for the Montgomery Family could do the same. This could be a major night for both teams. It’s also a big opportunity for Roy Goodlooks. I’ve heard from my backstage sources that he is high on the radar of Deverell’s Army. He’s got all the tools that Zippy likes in recruits and this could be a make or break opportunity for the big cowboy.”

The Montgomery Family versus Deverell's Army & Roy Goodlooks

This match is actually the last contracted match for The Montgomery Family -- but the announcers didn’t want to highlight that (for obvious reasons). The four brothers (and their sister) are on their way to Gulf Coast Wrestling, the new USPW developmental. This was their farewell match and they did the honors here in a big way. The match started with Robert Montgomery Jr. getting eliminated by Roy Goodlooks -- right off the jump, when Goodlooks hit Montgomery Jr. with a huge lariat that turned the 6’7” Montgomery inside out. Goodlooks made the cover and the whole Montgomery Family was taken by surprise with the quick elimination of the eldest brother. The match settled in after this with The Taggs working like a team. The eliminated Shawn and Eric Montgomery before Roy was tagged back in and caught by series by Kyle Montgomery -- who hit a Montgomery Driver to secure the lone elimination for the Montgomery Family. Zippy hit the Spinning Bulldog right after that on Kyle and got the final elimination for his team.

In a decent match, Zippy Deverell, Roy Goodlooks and The Taggs defeated The Montgomery Family (Robert Montgomery Jr., Kyle Montgomery, Eric Montgomery and Shawn Montgomery) in an Elimination match in 10:12; Robert Montgomery Jr. was eliminated first, then Shawn Montgomery, then Eric Montgomery, then Roy Goodlooks, and finally Kyle Montgomery.

Earnest, “Deverell’s Amy was successful here -- and in very convincing fashion.”

Harper, “It was convincing, Marv. They worked through the Montgomery Family like four men who were ready for whatever could come next I would fully expect to see Deverell’s Army challenging for the world Six Man Titles somewhere down the line.”

Earnest, “That wouldn’t surprise me at all. Zippy Deverell looks incredibly motivated and he’s got the Taggs looking meaner than ever. If Roy Goodlooks is a new soldier in Deverell’s Army then Deverell just got that much stronger.”

Harper, “It’s a good situation for both Zippy and Roy, I think.”

Earnest, “I think so too, but up next we have a tag team grudge match. Nate DeMarcus and Warwick Good team up to take up Bred for Battle. The first time these two teams met, they went to a time limit draw. With ten extra minutes on the clock, will they go to a draw this time? Or will we have a different result?”

Nate DeMarcus & Warwick Good versus Bred for Battle w/ Andrew Gibson

The action started fast and furious with all four men standing in the ring and trading blows. Referee Andre Lane had a hard time gaining control of the match. There was no love lost between the four men in the match and it showed as they brawled. Warwick Good took James Diaz to the outside with a big clothesline that sent both men to the floor, leaving Nate and Dreadnought in the ring. Dreadnought went for a clothesline, but DeMarcus ducked under it. When Dreadnought turned around, DeMarcus lifted the big man up into the air and brought him down with a heavy slam. The fans cheered at seeing Dreadnought bodyslammed -- it was a rare thing after all. Dreadnought pulled himself back to his feet and Nate DeMarcus came flying across the ring, looking for a Snap Tackle, but Dreadnought caught him with a Spine Buster that rattled the ring. Dreadnought lifted DeMarcus up and tossed him into the ropes and when DeMarcus came bouncing back, Dreadnought hit him with a second vertebrae-shattering Spine Buster. Dreadnought got in full mount and started to rain down blows. Rights and lefts. Over and over again and again. Andre Lane demanded the break, but Dreadnought wouldn’t give it to Lane and Lane was forced to disqualify Dreadnought.

In an extremely short match, Nate DeMarcus and Warwick Good defeated Dreadnought and James Diaz in 5:14 when Dreadnought got disqualified after going into a rage and refusing to stop assaulting Nate DeMarcus. Warwick Good was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance.

Earnest, “Dreadnought was unable to control himself. He has shown that tendency in his career to lose control and it came back and bit him here. He just gave this win away.”

Harper, “But did he? I don’t know if it was lost control or a purposeful decision to try and hurt Nate DeMarcus. Andrew Gibson is a smart man, I’m sure he coached Dreadnought into this situation. To ignore the referee’s instructions in order to cause maximum punishment.”

Earnest, “Up next is our first of five championship matches. The Indiana Heavyweight Championship is on the line as the champion Wild Red Stallion defends against “Showtime” Jack Jackson.”

Harper, “This is a big match up for both men. This is Jack’s second match in HPW. He was very convincing in his debut. Wild Red Stallion is a HPW original. He’s in his second reign as Indiana Heavyweight Champion. He’s defended the championship five times since winning it at Circle City Classic V in May. He’s in the best shape of his life and has consistently elevated his game. Will he be able to elevate it once again tonight? Or will Jack rise higher?”

The first title match of the night started with a center-ring lock up. Stallion pushed Jack back into the ropes and gave referee Kessie Lee Walker the clean break. Stallion is always a clean wrestler and he showcased that with the break. Jack was all smiles. He was amused at his losing the opening lock up. A second lock up and Stallion pushed Jack back into the corners. He broke clean again and Jack Jackson looked not as happy. On the third lock up, Jack didn’t let Stallion break clean. Instead, he threw a straight jab into the eye of Stallion and took over. Jack worked like a classic, old school heel. He kept trying to get Walker out of position so he could bend/break a rule. He worked her count until four when ever he tried to choke Stallion. He kept Stallion off of his feet and on the mat. Stallion started trying to get to his feet and caught a Short Knee Lift for his troubles - but Stallion shook it off. He started going into a trance. His version of hulking up. Jack’s eyes went wide and he let off several chops, but Stallion shook them off and started bouncing around the ring. He was getting hyped and Jack looked worried. Jack went for another knife-edged chop and Stallion absorbed it and then launched a knife-edged chop of his own. Then a second. Then a third. The comeback was in full effect. Stallion shot Jack across the ropes and when he bounced back, Stallion lifted him high into the air and then brought him down with a Flapjack. Stallion hit a huge hip toss and then lifted Jack high into the air above his head for the Gorilla Press Slam. Jack hit the mat hard and Stallion signalled that he was going to go for the Lakota Cutter, but suddenly Danny Draper was ringside and on the ring apron. He got Stallion -- and Walker’s attention. Walker demanded Draper exit the area and the distraction allowed Jack Jackson to get to his feet. Stallion turned around and got kicked in the gut and then a big Implant DDT and Jack Jackson was the new Indiana Champion!

In a bout that had great heat and decent wrestling, Jack Jackson defeated Wild Red Stallion in 11:33 by pinfall with an Implant DDT following interference from Dapper Danny Draper. Jack Jackson wins the HPW Indiana title.

Earnest, “Damn that Danny Draper! He just cost Wild Red Stallion the Indiana Heavyweight Championship! I think Stallion might have had the match won.”

Harper, “We can’t blame Danny. Wild Red Stallion took his eyes off the prize. He allowed himself to get distracted. That’s his fault, unfortunately. He has a responsibility to keep himself focused on the task at hand. He didn’t do that. He can be mad at Danny, but ultimately it comes down to his decision making in the heat of the moment.”

Earnest, “Oh come on Grace! That’s not a fair attitude to take.”

Harper, “Sure it is. I don’t like what Danny did, but he came out to the ring. Kessie Lee Walker, the fine official that she is, was handling it. Stallion allowed himself to be distracted and to focus on Draper instead of his opponent. If he had stayed focused on Jack, when Kessie got Danny out of here he would still be Indiana Champion.”

Earnest, “Well we can debate this later because up next, the HPW Tag Team Titles are on the line. The Texas Express challenges The Dynamite Express in what should be an excellent contest. Let’s go to the ring with Taylor Gordy for the introductions.”

The second tag match and the first set of tag titles to be defended had an interesting spot on the card. They couldn’t do all the standard tag tropes -- because they had to leave something for the World Tag Titles, but they were able to have a fiercely competitive, open tag match. Whereas the first tag match was a wild brawl that ended quickly, they had enough time to tell the back and forth story of two teams that were equal to one another. There was no shine or heat or comeback, just back and forth stretches where a team would get a couple of minutes of offense before being cut off and going on the defensive. Cam Jones was in the ring illegally and he came for a Running Crossbody, but Turk ducked down and Cam went flying over the top rope and crashed to the floor. Turk was able to tag Cooper and they hit Syd Collier with Texas Rising and were able to get the three count and become the new HPW Tag Team Champions!

In an exceptional match, The Texas Express defeated The Dynamite Express in 14:49 when Cooper Christie pinned Syd Collier with a Texas Rising. The Texas Express win the HPW Tag Team Championships..

Earnest, “And we have new Tag Team champions! For the second time, The Texas Express is Heartland Pro Wrestling Tag Team Champions. What a victory for them tonight.”

Harper, “My hat is off to them and to the Dynamite Express. They were great champions. Eight defenses across two reigns -- the most combined successful defenses for the tag titles in HPW history. That’s nothing to snort at.”

Earnest, “You’re absolutely right. They were great champions and I’m sure they will stay in the title picture. Speaking of the title picture, up next we have the title unification match between Talia Neema and Yvonne Ericks. After tonight, the All Action and Women’s Championship will be unified into the Women’s Championship. Who will walk out of here with the championship?”

Harper, “Talia Neema enters this as the All Action Champion and a victory here would make her only the second Triple Crown Winner. Yvonne Ericks has dominated the championship scene for the women’s division in 2024. She’s been at the top of her game this year with her only real blemish coming against Talia Neema when Neema was able to get the All Action Championship in her clutches. This should be a very competitive match up between the two top female singles wrestlers here in HPW.”

"The Pharaoh" Talia Neema versus "Red" Yvonne Ericks

The dislike these two women have for each other was palpable as they stood in the ring across from one another. Yvonne Ericks had both the Women’s Tag Team Title and Women’s Title with her -- giving across the message that she is a big deal in the women’s division, the Ace of the division, if you will. Talia Neema had the All Action Championship but her regal Egyptian royalty garb that she took her time taking off, playing mind games. The crowd was into this match. Both women were over with the HPW audience and both have really developed into standout wrestlers. The match was competitive and really intense. Yvonne Ericks dug into her kickboxing background and really started to drive her kicks into Talia Neema’s lower body. She was trying to take Neema’s base out from her -- and take away Neema’s Hieroglyph kick that has made Neema so dangerous in her career. Neema was able to get control of the match and she was very physical with lots of snap suplexes to Yvonne. She also hit a Second Rope Leg Drop that landed with a lot of force. Neema hit a Hangman style Neckbreaker that landed with a lot of force. Ericks made a big comeback went for a Hurricanrana, but Neema countered it with a Stiff Powerbomb and then draped her legs over the middle rope while Kessie Lee Walker, oblivious to this, counted the three and Talia Neema had unified the titles!

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Talia Neema defeated Yvonne Ericks in 13:03 by pinfall while using the ropes for leverage. Talia Neema wins the HPW Women's title. Talia Neema makes defence number two of the HPW All Action title.

Earnest, “And Talia Neema is now the Women’s Champion and the All Action title has been unified into it, but damn it, she used the ropes.”

Harper, “She didn’t get caught. The ref can’t call what she can’t see.”

Earnest, “I understand that. I really do, but it still grinds my gears.”

Harper, “You’re just too nice a guy to have ever been a successful wrestler. Sometimes you’ve got to bend the rules. Winning is what matters. Talia Neema understood that tonight and she won. She’s going to get the big pay day and she’s now the Unified Champion.”

Earnest, “She’s definitely in for the big pay day now having won the title match. And speaking of titles and big pay days, up next we have the World Tag Team Titles on the line. The Ring Generals, in their second reign as World Tag Team Champions, put the titles on the line against Mr. Grappling and Sandman Winks. Both teams are motivated to win. Neither team likes each other and with the World Titles on the line, this should be a great contest.

Mr. Grappling & Sandman Winks versus The Ring Generals © w/ Lucinda Lush

The World Tag Team Titles were on the line in the semi final. Mr. Grappling and Sandman Winks against The Ring Generals. They were afforded the time to really get into a classic tag match. The Ring Generals have been one of the best wrestling tag teams in the world for the past two decades. They just know how to work. They don’t take big bumps. They don’t jump off the top rope. They’re smash-mouth, in your face wrestlers and they worked this match like the World Tag Champs should. They isolated Sandman Winks from Mr. Grappling. They cut the ring off in half and they used frequent tags in and out to keep the fresh man in. Each time they tagged in, they hit a double team move of some description and used every second they could before Andre Lane would disqualify them. They focused on the back of The Mayor of Muscle Mountain and really tried to take away any kind of snap that he could have in his back. Dean Waldorf hit a Tilt-a-Whirl Backbreaker on Sandman, but kept him bent over the knee. He reached up and tagged in Marv Statler and Statler came off the second rope with an elbow drop right to the chest for a near fall. Statler followed that up with another Backbreaker variant.

Sandman had several hope spots before finally making the hot tag to Mr. Grappling and Indiana’s Finest came in like a house of fire. He was all right hands and back elbows and Suplexes and knee drops and Knee Lifts. All of his classic moves. All throwback wrestling moves. The old school flavor that the HPW crowd loved and actually had Grappling as the #2 babyface in terms of popularity behind Nicky Champion. Grappling hit a rare dropkick that sent Dean Waldorf -- who was coming in illegally -- tumbling out of the ring and into Lucinda Lush -- who was trying to get onto the apron. They both took a spill and the crowd popped -- Lush didn’t take many bumps so seeing one even like this was a happy moment. Grappling followed that up with his version of the Rip Chord DDT (think the classic Jake the Snake DDT as opposed to one of the other hundred variants) on Marv Statler. He made the cover and we had new World Tag Team Champions.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and good wrestling, Grappling & Sandman defeated The Ring Generals in 19:52 when Mr. Grappling pinned Marv Statler with a Rip Chord DDT. Grappling & Sandman win the COTT World Tag Team titles.

The crowd is still buzzing from the result of the previous contest when the lights in the building are dimmed to nothingness. A single spotlight shines on the entryway. Ready for the title opportunity that is in front of him. He begins the practiced art of the Seminole War dance. The chants and drum continues as Nicky moves skillfully on the entryway. It is practiced, something he takes pride it, similar to a Haka. His war dance wasn’t to play up a Native American gimmick, but rather it was clear that he was doing it out of pride, out of respect for his Seminole heritage. He made the walk down the stage to the ring and it was clear that Nicky Champion was ready.

Earnest, “And it’s time. The main event of the evening. The Mid American Title is on the line. We have seen every title change hands so far tonight. Will the streak continue here? Or will Funky Fedora extend his record-setting reign? Funky has faced a lot of great wrestlers in the fourteen months he has been champion, but he’s never wrestled someone like Nicky Champion.”

Harper, “This is the first time either of these two men have been in the ring with each other. They’ve never wrestled in a battle royal, a tag match, nothing. This will be the first time they lock up in wrestling history. Nicky Champion has worked hard to get his way back into championship contention in his career. He survived a brutal rivalry with Zippy Deverell and he came out the other side. Tonight, he has perhaps the toughest challenge of his career. A young, motivated champion with all the momentum in the world behind him. If NIcky Champion truly wants to redeem himself -- tonight has to be the night.”

"Hawkeye" Nicky Champion versus Funky Fedora © w/ Lucinda Lush

The bell rang and this first time ever match up between these two stars were ready for the main event. It was the match on the marquee. They took their time circling each other. It was slow and deliberate. They built to the initial lockup. That collar and elbow tie up where both men dug in. Their legs flexed and their arms locked against each other. Champion, the bigger of the two men, dropped down some and took Fedora over with an arm drag that he followed right into an arm bar. Fedora was frustrated that he got taken over so quickly but he worked quick to get back to his feet, but his arm was still in a standing armbar that Champion took into a hammerlock and then went from the hammerlock into a side headlock. Fedora backed up into the ropes and pushed Champion off to break the hold and Champion ran across the ring. He bounced back and drove his shoulder into Funky Fedora. Fedora’s eyes went wide and he slid back into the corner. He leaned out of it and Lucinda Lush -- who has recovered from the fall from being ran into by Dean Waldorf in the previous match -- and she gave him some coaching, some strategy to try to not let this happen again.

Standing back up, Fedora and Champion locked up again and this time, Fedora wrapped a hand in Champion’s hair and used that to pull Champion back into the corner. Senior official Bret Graveson demanded the break and Fedora backed up, but brought his hand down with a hard chop in the corner and Champion let out a woof and Fedora hit him with another chop and then a third and then a short forearm and then he pulled Champion into a side headlock of his own. He drug Champion into the center of the ring and really wrenched the headlock in. He shouted something to a woman in the front row and thrust his hips at her right before Nicky Champion lifted Fedora high into the air and then brought him down with a hard Atomic Drop that caused Fedora to break the headlock and clutch at his backside. He turned around and Champion caught him with another hard shoulder tackle. Fedora took a big bump off of it. He immediately powdered out of the ring and took counsel with Lucinda Lusha.

At the eight count, Fedora got back into the ring and another lock up happened and again Fedora used a hair pull to get the advantage, but this time used it to pull Champion back into a side headlock. He took Champion over and kept the headlock. Locking in the seated side headlock, really wrenching it in. It was purposeful. He was trying to keep Champion grounded. Fedora switched positions so he could actually raise his body in the air, keeping the grip on Champion’s head. He let his body fall back to the mat, wrenching the neck. He repeated the process two more times before releasing the hold. He backed up a few paces and came forward, jumping into the air to bring his knee down onto the back of Champion’s neck and now Champion got to transition into what made him famous, what made him USPW, and pro wrestling’s biggest star. He sold. Fedora settled into his offense -- neckbreakers, headlocks, forearms to the neck.

Fedora backed Champion back into the corner again and let off several more hard chops that dug into Champion’s chest and broke skin. Only a small trickle of blood came from Champion’s chest, just enough to let people know the sheer force that Fedora was chopping with. After several chops, Nicky burst into action, switching positions with Fedora so he could let off several chops of his own. He hit with the same force that Fedora hit him with and the result was much the same. Champion pulled Fedora from the corner and hit a Vertical Suplex -- but couldn’t capitalize because the impact of slamming into the mat made him grab at his neck. All of the punishment he has absorbed so far. Fedora was able to get to his feet first and when Champion got to his feet, he ate a knee to the gut and grabbed Champion’s neck. He turned him slowly and dropped him to the mat with a hard neckbreaker that got a two count, but Champion wasn’t going down that easy. Fedora pulled Champion back to his feet and backed him up to the ropes. He lifted him and draped him over the top rope. Fedora backed up several paces and came forward and used a big High Knee Lift while Champion was balancing on the ropes to cause Champion to bounce up and off of the ropes to the unprotected wood floor. Champion looked out of this and Bret Graveson reluctantly began the ten count. It took until seven for Champion to get up and into the ring.

Fedora went back on the attack. He pulled Champion up and tossed Champion across the ring into the ropes. Champion ricocheted across the ring and Fedora bent over and lifted Champion high into the air with a Back Body Drop. Fedora followed that up with a Leg Drop that got him another near fall. Fedora immediately went into a Seated Sleeper Hold. He had his body weight pressing into Nicky Champion and Nicky Champion was in a really bad way. He looked like he was out of it. His arm was raised once. It fell. It was raised a second time and a second time it fell. The crowd was on the edge of their seat. They’d seen wrestlers fall asleep -- Sandman Winks often made them visit Morpheus and Fedora could be sending Champion there. Graveson raised Champion’s arm high and let it fall and it almost fell to the mat but just before it did Champion was able to stop it. The crowd started to cheer and Fedora’s eyes went wide as Champion’s arm pumped and he started to get to his feet. He drove his elbow into Fedora’s gut once, twice, three times to be free. Fedora was doubled over and Champion dug deep and hit a big DDT on Fedora that laid both men out. Graveson started the ten count to see if it was going to be a double stoppage, but by eight both men were back on their feet.

Fedora swung a big right hand but Champion blocked it with his left arm and hit a right hand of his own. Then a second right hand. Then a third right hand that had Fedora on wobbly, dramatic, perfect for the moment. Champion drove his elbow into Fedora’s face and it dropped Fedora. Fedora got back to his feet and Champion hoisted him high in the air for a big bodyslam. Then an elbow drop and a near fall of his own. Champion pulled him up and hit a double underhook suplex that tossed Fedora across the ring. Fedora flew through the air. He bounced back up and Champion lifted him and spun him around and down with a big Spinebuster that got a near fall. Champion picked Fedora up again and looked like he was going for the Hawkeye Hammer but Fedora sandbagged him and fell back to his knees. Fedora grabbed a handful of Champion’s tights and pushed him off into the ropes. Champion came back and Fedora stepped around him and locked in an Abdominal Stretch. He set it in deep, real deep, but then Champion overpowered him and brought him over for a hip toss. Fedora got back to his feet and Champion caught him flush with a forearm that sent Fedora stumbling back into the ropes. Fedora almost fell through the ropes, but he rebounded and came into a clothesline that took Champion’s head and the crowd gasped. This was not something that Fedora usually did. Both men were down but Fedora got back to his feet. He had the look of a man who refused to lose his championship. He pulled Nicky Champion up and spun him around. He pushed him towards the ropes and lifted him, he dropped Champion leg first on the ropes and let it slingshot Champion back and completed the Slingshot Back Suplex. The crowd was silent as Fedora made the cover.

One.

Two.

Thre --

No! Nicky Champion kicked out. No one kicks out of the Slingshot Back Suplex. Fedora’s eyes went wide and he immediately looked at Graveson but the senior HPW official held up two fingers and made the universal symbol for a shoulder coming up just in time. Despite kicking out, Champion looked out of it. Fedora dragged Champion towards the corner. Fedora climbed to the top rope and Lucinda nodded. Fedora jumped off and bent his knee and drove his knee down into the upper chest-face of Champion with the Top Rope Knee Drop. Fedora clutched at his knee -- he came down with more force than he meant to. Fedora made the cover and Graveson was there to make the count.

One.

Two.

Thre --

No! Again Nicky Champion kicked out and the crowd roared with approval. Nicky just kicked out of both of Fedora’s homerun shots. Fedora looked like he was going to cry. HE looked like a desperate man. He pulled Nicky Champion up and suddenly Champion pushed him back. When Fedora came back in, Champion hit him with a headbut that dazed both men. Champion underhooked both of Fedora’s arms and raised him in the air, upside down. He held him there for a minute before falling forward and sitting out, completing the Hawkeye Hammer. The crowd was silent when Nicky rolled Fedora over. He hooked the leg and Graveson was there.

One.

Two.

Three!

It was over. Nicky Champion had done it and the people roared with approval.

In an exceptional match, Nicky Champion defeated Funky Fedora in 28:54 by pinfall with a Hawkeye Hammer. Nicky Champion wins the COTT Mid American title.

Earnest, “We have a new Mid American Champion! That was the damndest match I've seen in an HPW ring. What an effort from both men. What a night of action tonight. Thanksgiving Turmoil will go down in history, mark my words, but we're all out of time. Make sure you down into Wrestling Spotlight right here on WrestleWorld on Friday Night. We can't wait to see what's next. For Grace Harper and everyone here at Heartland Pro Wrestling, I'm Marv Earnest saying thank you for joining us, we can't wait to see you again."

Once I read the first paragraph, I realized I was in for a show! Really like how you describe the camera angles as the show begins. The first women's angle oh boy. I don't know why, but I love these where masked women are licking stuff in a psycho way. I know, I might have some mental issues. Hey, Who doesn't? A good debut, and despite not having the full story of HPW on the top of my mind I like this kind of product. As I'm writing this comment as I'm reading I was wondering if there's a mechanic to Unify titles in TEW that I'm not aware of, which is bad, cause it could add some prestige to a belt and would add more value to the purchase belt function, although one can do it within our mind. With the win of Nicky Champion the first thought I had, lots of title changes. "Me likes it". As for the match is very well written although I missed both man playing it more to the crowd but given the importance of the match they should be heavily focused so it makes sense. The false endings and the quick comeback to finish up the match surely will leave this story open.

Very good show, there's a reason behind the DOTM tag at the title and despite not following all the diaries, it's deserved. I was very entertained and engaged in the show. Surely, I will keep around and following your writing and work up-close.

Tough break on losing the Montgomerys.

It is a tough break. That's the way it goes sometimes though. At least it was CANADA!

The only reality I will accept is Zippy getting his revenge and becoming the next COTT Mid American champion

Zippy should have a really big 2025.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. There isn't a functionality in TEW to unify titles -- I just had to deactivate the All Action Championship. Normally, I don't have that many title changes on one singular show, but all of the stories for the titles hit this as a point for changes. Good to have you onboard.

The bass was loud and heavy and he could feel it running through him. The lights were low. His drink was just the right temperature and not too watered down. It was exactly what he needed. Tonight, he’d lost the Mid American Title and sure, he wasn’t that beat up about it. It was a fake title in a fake sport that he was picked to win and didn’t win off of actual athletic ability, but it still stung. He had lost to Nicky and he’d known Nicky for awhile. He’d shared locker rooms in USPW with Nicky so he didn’t dislike the guy, but he had liked being champion. He had liked being the top guy and now he wasn’t and that was the way the business worked but he could still be sad about it, right? He was allowed to feel something.

He took a drink. A slow drink and his eyes scanned his surroundings. The club was filled with under-thirties who were out for a good time and some over-thirties who wanted to ignore their responsibilities and drink and party and find some one to take home. Isn’t that what they all wanted? Isn’t that way you came to a place whose booze was too expensive and lights too low and music too loud? You came to have a good time which was really code for forget what ever was bothering you. He felt his phone buzz again. It had been buzzing for awhile. He looked at it quickly.

2GfzzVu.png?2

He clicked his tongue off his teeth and repocketed his phone. He wasn’t going to respond to her. He hadn’t responded to her all night, hell, all week. It might have been a couple of weeks. He wasn’t sure. He’d been drinking a lot. Not enough that he had been unable to discharge his duties -- he’d never come to work impacted by his pastime, but his nights had been spent in places like this. He’d message her at some point. Probably later tonight if he wasn’t able to convince someone to take him home or come back to his hotel room with him. If he was alone and drunk? Sure, he’d message her back and apologize and tell her he’d just been really focused on the match tonight and getting mentally prepared and been blocking out the world. He’d say sorry a dozen times and she’d forgive him and she’d never ask him if he’d been drinking or if he’d been with other women and he wouldn’t volunteer the information and he could go back to Memphis and pretend to be happy with her and hold his son and pretend like that was the life he wanted. It was the pattern they’d fallen into.

He took another drink and caught his own reflection in the mirror. He looked good. Hair slicked back. Dressed nice. Dressed with just enough money to let the locals know he had it without making it look like he had purposefully dressed in nothing but expensive clothes. It was the dance. Had to try without making it look like you were trying too hard. He saw a girl on the other side of the bar. She was laughing with one of her friends and flipped her dark hair back and then looked at him and he smiled and she smiled politely but didn’t otherwise engage so he looked away as to not be creepy. They were just strangers who had caught each other’s eye. Maybe he should go back to his hotel room alone. Maybe he should drink a stiff cup of coffee to cut his buzz down and call Lola and they could talk. She’d always had his back. Since high school. She’d been a consistent support system. She still was. She was raising their son, mostly by herself. She worked. She worked hard. She was a good woman. Better than he deserved, for sure and for some reason she was in love with him. Or maybe she wasn’t. Maybe she was just comfortable with the status quo. It was the only real relationship either of them had ever known and maybe there was comfort in that. Or fear. Or whatever. Terry wasn’t a philosopher or psychologist. He was just a guy who liked to drink and get laid and wrestle other dudes and feel like a star.

He finished his drink and stood up. He wasn’t going to leave this club alone tonight and he had come here for a good time. He had come here to forget or at least to run away from his problems for a little while. To run away from real life for just long enough. He shook his head twice and ordered another drink. He drank it quickly and slammed it down on the bar. He let out a “Whooo” and suddenly he was transformed. The woman and baby waiting for him in Memphis were a thing of the past. He was Funky Fedora, damn it. He had just wrestled Nicky Champion to the best match in Heartland Pro Wrestling history. He motioned to the woman he had made eye contact with. He motioned to his drink, then to her, trying to ask her if she wanted another. She smiled, shrugged, and nodded yes and the drinks were ordered and he made his way around the bar. It was time to get down to the business of the night.

<p>Wowsers, a lot of title changes!</p><p> </p><p>

What an exceptional main event. I don't normally read the matches in detail, but I did on this occasion and was rewarded! I think having Champion win is the right choice for the story, and will be a huge rub for whoever manages to take the title off him. It'll be interesting to see who he faces next.</p><p> </p><p>

I'm also a fan of the title switch for the Indiana Heavyweight title. I like Wild Red Stallion and he had a good reign, but I think the time was right.</p>
