Bonus Point: Who makes an appearance to challenge Conner Threepwood: <strong>Acid</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Apologies for a long one but I want to explain my reasoning. Part of me wants to go for Riley McManus, in a meta way us readers are "smarks" but I think he would overshadow Threepwood and you don't want a heel getting more support than your hometown hero. Part of me thinks it could be Crockett Tubbs in the "bitter former partner left behind" role, but that's not really a smark-y story to tell. So I'm going to go for Acid, since he trained Conner, and that relationship hasn't really been addressed in Kayfabe, it would give those in the know a little tip of the cap, while also bringing in a fairly big name guy to face the champ. Plus you seem to be on a run of putting Conner over aging guys. (Honorary mention to Acid II in a kind of who is the true successor story, but I think that deserves more than a one time match).</em></p>

Saturday Week 3, June 2020

Live from the Fountain Square Theatre [indianapolis, Indiana, Great Lakes, USA]

68 people in attendance (down from 82 last show)

Commentators: Marv Earnest & Honest Frank

qSIrNZu.jpg?1Vaq1dgZ.jpg

Earnest, “Hello everyone and thank you for joining us once again for another month of Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis action. This is School’s Out and I am Marvin Earnest. I’m not alone today, as always, I’m joined in the broadcast booth by my colleague Honest Frank. Frank, tonight CWI sees its first ever World Title contest of any kind as the Queens of the Damned, the reigning World Women’s Tag Team Champions make the trip up from Mexico to put the titles on the line against Lilly and Rose. How big of a deal is it for the World Tag titles to be on the line?”

Frank, “There is no greater accomplishment in a person’s professional career than to hold a World title. It is a hallmark achievement. It is something that travels with you forever. Once you call yourself World Champion, you can always call yourself World Champion. You’re in rarefied air.”

Earnest, “I spoke with Lilly and Rose earlier today, Frank -- and they told me that they have never been more motivated for a match in their careers. Tonight, they are in the main event with the opportunity to win the Worlds Tag Team Titles -- an opportunity they have wanted since March. It is here. Plus, Steph Blake and Suzanne Brazzle go one on one for the second time in CWI -- once again for the Women’s Championship. Last time, Steph Blake was able to pick up the win and become the inaugural champion -- albeit with some help from Talia Neema and Urena Frost. Will tonight be the same story? Or will the story get rewritten and be the night that Suzanne Brazzle reigns supreme? And our third title match of the evening -- The Rock City Stars put the CWI Tag Team Titles on the line against the newly arrived Canadian Blonds. The Blonds made a big impact last month when they surprised the wrestling world with their arrival here in Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis. Will they continue that momentum tonight and win their third championship together? Or will The Rock City Stars continue their run at the top of the tag team pile here? Find out tonight on School’s Out.”

The Dog Soldiers versus The Hot Taggs

The opening match was the first of three tag team contests on the show tonight. The Dog Soldiers, Youngblood & Stallion, have been on a roll recently are looking to continue their momentum against the brother-duo from Montana. The Taggs are not a part of the full time roster in CWI, but are looking to impress here and maybe earn a spot on the roster. Both brothers are big and mean and seem exactly like the kind of duo that CWI would feature. In this contest, they got to be snarly brawlers, but they also showed that they weren’t afraid to take bumps for their opponents. Like normal, Ace took the heat and beating from the Taggs before he made the tag -- no pun intended -- to Stallion. The big Lakota Warrior came in with a lot of energy and cleaned house before tagging Youngblood back in so that he could hit the Flying Tomahawk Chop on Wolfie Tagg and secure the victory for the duo.

The Dog Soldiers defeated The Hot Taggs in 8:20 when Ace Youngblood pinned Wolfie Tagg after the Flying Tomahawk Chop.

The masked man known the world over as Acid came walking out from the behind the curtain -- with no music playing -- so it took the crowd a minute to realize he was out there, but when they did they immediately got interested. He walked to the ringside area to take a microphone. He climbed into the ring.

Acid, “I’ve been in this business a long time. I’ve been all around the world. I’ve wrestled some of the all time greats. People the world over know who I am and for the past few years, I’ve been wondering to myself… What’s something I need to do. That something is Conner Threepwood. I’m the reason Conner Threepwood is a professional wrestler. I taught him everything he knows -- but not everything I know. I molded him into the wrestler he is today and now he’s the COTT Mid American Champion. I’m proud of him for that success, but it’s success he has gotten without ever beating the man who taught him the sport. So I’m here in Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis… I’m here to challenge Conner Threepwood to a match for that title. Threepwood, I know you’re not here tonight, but if you’re the man I taught -- I know I’ll see you next month. If you’re not the man I taught, then… well… Then you’ll still be seeing me.

Matt Blackburn versus The Hangman

Blackburn was back in action against The Hangman. Two young guys. Hangman has been undefeated in singles competition in CWI -- and has won all of his matches in very convincing fashion. Blackburn was the smartest opponent so far -- he danced around the Hangman and hit some good strikes that focused on the lower body -- but Hangman barely registered any of them. When Hangman got ahold of Blackburn, it was business as usual for him. A couple of throat thrusts, a big body slam, a big boot, and then the Chokeslam and that was all she wrote for Matt Blackburn.

The Hangman defeated Matt Blackburn in 1:49 by pinfall after a Chokeslam.

"Oklahoma Thunderbolt" Jason Patterson versus Dreadnought w/ Andrew Gibson

Jason Patterson has had some successes and some failures in CWI. He’s won some, he’s lost some -- and tonight he was in the ring with a highly motivated monster. Dreadnought is one of two monsters on the CWI roster -- the other being The Hangman, but he’s presented much differently. The Hangman doesn’t sell. He doesn’t register pain. He wins quick and in dominant fashion. He doesn’t leave his feet. He doesn’t move quickly -- he’s a methodical monster straight out of the West. Dreadnought is different. He’s presented like the ultra-athletic monster. Quick and explosive -- he sells strikes, but he doesn’t bump. He drops to a knee -- but he doesn’t take any bumps. Patterson isn’t quite so lucky. He bumped all over the place for the big man, who then hit the Dread Bomb to get the victory.

Dreadnought beat Jason Patterson in 8:26 by pinfall after a Dread Bomb.

The Femme Fatales came walking out. Last month, they were unsuccessful in their match against Reece and Wells and neither woman looks particularly pleased.

Frost, “Reece and Wells… You are the two luckiest women on the planet. Last month was a fluke. An absolute fluke. You should have never been in the ring with us, let alone be allowed to be in a position to beat us.”

Neema, “So we’re going to do this again. One more time. We’re going to beat y’all like we should have in the first place!

The Canadian Blonds (Goldstein and Savage) versus The Rock City Stars ©

The first of three title matches on tonight’s show. The Canadian Blonds (formerly Blondes) and the Rock City Stars are no strangers to one another. They worked together in MAW for two years and had plenty of matches against one another. It showed in the match up. The Blonds are an excellent pairing with one another -- Savage is the ultra cocky poser kind of guy -- who has put on some muscle mass since NOTBPW (but is still small). Goldstein, the pretty boy himself, is a great ring general and isn’t afraid to be the subject of some in-ring humiliation. They worked like classic heels here against the Rock City Stars -- and Turner was once again the man who took the heat. His long hair, good looks, and ability to sell make him great on the indy-level. One woman in the crowd almost hopped the barricade to help Rockin’ Ryan when Ozzie yanked him back by the blond hair to keep him in the side headlock. With there being two matches left, neither team wanted to overshadow what was to come so they told their story. Manna made the big come back for the team after the hot tag (no relation to the duo that started the show off) and Savage and Goldstein bumped big for him. Manna looked like he had the match won when out of nowhere, Philippe LaGrenier popped up out of nowhere and distracted him so that Ozzie could roll him from behind and got a handful of tights -- and the three count and we have new Tag Team Champions!

The Canadian Blonds defeated The Rock City Stars to win the CWI Tag Team Championship in 18:36 when Ozzie used a handful of tights on the pin.

“The Miracle Blonde” Suzanne Brazzle versus “The Mistress of the DDT” Steph Blake ©

The second of two main events. A rematch from March Madness. The two veterans of the sport. Both with more miles behind them than in front of them, though Blake has more highway left than Brazzle -- who has been battling father time but announced her plans to retire from the sport in August. This could be her last shot. The last grasping attempt to go out on top for a woman that has given her everything to the sport -- and tonight, Suzanne Brazzle dialed back the hands of time just enough to remind people of the woman she was in her prime. The people were behind her. The whole of the near 60 person crowd chanting Brazzle, Brazzle, throughout the match as she did everything she could to put Steph Blake away -- and to her credit, the bullish leader of The War Maidens, sold her ass off for Brazzle and let her hit all of her big moves -- but Blake kicked out of all of them. After Brazzle hit a Miracle Connection and still didn’t get the win, she looked up at Bret Graveson with wet, pleading eyes. She looked exhausted as she held up three fingers and Graveson shook his head sadly. The fans could tell he was disappointed, but was doing his job. Brazzle pulled Blake up and looked like she was going to dig deep one more time, but Blake suddenly hit a few forearms and then the Slingshot DDT and got the three count to retain.

Steph Blake defeated Suzanne Brazzle to retain the CWI Women’s Championship in 16:17 after hitting the Slingshot DDT and pinning her. This was Blake’s second successful defense.

Lilly & Rose versus The Queens of the Damned ©

The main event of the evening. The Women’s World Tag Team Titles. This was a big match. The first World Title match of any kind to happen in Indianapolis in a long time. Lilly and Rose have been teaming together for fourteen years. They’re an excellent team. They were one of the top teams in AAA -- but they’ve never held World Titles. The Queens of the Damned are the premier team south of the border, with Queen Amazon being perhaps the top luchadora in all of Mexico (though Electric Dreamer might stake her own claim being that she is the Women’s World Champion). These two teams wrestled like two excellent teams. The fans were excited to see the normally rudo-team, which made them the fan favorites for the evening. Lilly and Rose did every dirty tactic they could think of. They pulled on their masks. They pulled on their hair. They came in and out of the ring illegally while Jez McArthur was distracted. Shane Sneer would have been proud of how good they worked as heels throughout the big main event. Amazon and Diablo are an excellent team and they got to showcase their blend of lucha, but in the end, it was a Thorn Cutter from Rose onto Diablo and Lilly and Rose were World Tag Team champions.

Lilly & Rose defeated the Queens of the Damned to win the COTT World Women’s Tag Team Championship in 25:49 when Debbie Rose pinned La Hija del Diablo after a Thorn Cutter.

<p>Our sixth show is in the books! Another 17 people showed up to predict to this one -- that had a pretty quick turn around (don't worry, I don't think I will ever quite replicate the sheer pace of The Climb!) We had a lot of really good performances on this show. Several people were able to correctly guess that Acid would be the surprise appearance. Newcommer Kainlock debuted on the predictions in a big way -- correctly predicting every match and not using the bonus point to make up the point.</p><p> </p><p>

Our race this quarter is currently being led by Hazemore -- though the Celtic phenom Tryker has been incredibly consistent in her predictions and is still sitting at a perfect score through two shows. There are two shows remaining in the quarter -- will it be Hazemore? Will it be Tryker? Will Kainlock who just debuted with a perfect score of his own leapfrog Hazemore and Tryker to the front of the line? Will MaiTyLer or ElSheriffo -- who have only missed one point so far on the first two shows, surge to the top? So much potential with the first two shows of the quarter being predicted on so well. </p><p> </p><p>

Show day is a very hectic day -- especially when you are the man in charge. I have to be everywhere. All the time. I have to make sure the guys are putting up the ring the right way. I have to make sure the entranceway is built properly. I have to make sure the concession stand is up to snuff. The merch. Plus sit down with the agents to go over what I had in mind for the finishes and then let them work with the talent to make sure the show was as good as could be from top to bottom. Then I had to go out and call the show live. I had to be the voice of the show. I had to do the billboards at the start of the show. I had to take us off the feed -- we weren’t airing live or anything -- but I treated it like a real production. I didn’t have a spare moment. I didn’t have time for controversy. I didn’t have time for anything dramatic -- not on show day.</p><p> </p><p>

On the day of School’s Out, I was taking a restroom break before the show started. Everything was set up. Attendance was looking down from our May show, which was really disappointing. We had put on a good show at Circle City Classic. A really good show, I thought. To see that somehow, even after putting on a good show, we were significantly down in attendance was disheartening, but I couldn’t let any of the talent see it. I had to be the brave face. The general couldn’t let his troops see him sweat. At least, that’s what I told myself as I walked through the hallway of the Fountain Square Theatre. It was an old building, but I loved it. Duck Pin Bowling was next door -- and sometimes after a show, I went and threw those small balls at those small pins to take out frustrations.</p><p> </p><p>

I rounded the corner and reached into my pocket to pull out my phone, but I had to stop myself. I heard something. Something I definitely should not be hearing. Not this close to showtime. Not in my backstage environment. Not in a damn hallway for sure. I leaned back slightly and saw the unmistakable sight of two people enjoying each other’s company in a way that is not meant for public consumption. I cleared my throat.</p><p> </p><p>

“Matt. Urena… What the hell?” I asked incredulously. I wasn’t either of their fathers. What they did on their own time was their own business. I didn’t want to be a guy who policied romantic affairs, but I also had to keep the backstage environment stable.</p><p> </p><p>

Matt Blackburn turned his head with a shock. He definitely didn’t expect to see me there. “Oh. Uh. Hey boss.” He said as he quickly tried to fix his shirt and keep me from seeing more of the lady -- which I didn’t want to see more of anyway. I was old enough to be her father and she worked for me and I was never the type to ogle anyway. I turned my head to give them both a minute to comport themselves.</p><p> </p><p>

“We’re a thing now.” Urena said plain as day. She wasn’t the type to beat around the bush -- and I didn’t care if they were an item. They were adults. Date who you want to date.</p><p> </p><p>

“I don’t really care. It’s your business, not mine. But this.” I motioned to the two of them without looking at either of them. “Can’t happen in my building, on my dime, at my show. When you’re here, you’re here to work. You understand?”</p><p> </p><p>

I could tell they were both blushing with embarrassment but nodding in agreement. I continued, “Don’t let me catch it again. Otherwise, I’m inclined to not be so forgiving next time.”</p><p> </p><p>

I walked away from the two of them. I never had to deal with this stuff in Mid Atlantic. Rip and Sam weren’t guys who promoted women’s wrestling -- even when I insisted they should. For years there was only Lisa on the women’s roster and she was tougher than half the guys and treated the business with a lot of respect.</p><p> </p><p>

I checked my watch as I kept on my path. It was almost showtime. Tonight was supposed to be a big night. I checked my phone for the last time before the show started. I never looked at it during the show. Everyone was here and accounted for. I swallowed and walked out to head towards the table I shared with Honest Frank and shook my head. Damn kids. You’d think they’d know to go behind a closed door. Oh well. On my way to the table, Rick Sanders passed by me. I put my hand his arm and leaned in.</p><p> </p><p>

“Tell Virgil to potato Matt a couple of times tonight. Try to knock some sense into him.”</p><p> </p><p>

Sanders didn’t ask twice. He didn’t ask for an explanation as to why. He just nodded his head and continued back to his post. He had come out to shake some hands and sign a few autographs before the show. Virgil would teach Matt and then all would be well again.</p>
