No Ordinary Men [CVerse]

Recommended Posts

I don't know why, but I do love a good revenge story like LeGrenier's there. Most of my diaries have such a story somewhere, whether it's BCG vs GCG, GSW vs IPW, any US hardcore promotion vs USPW/SWF etc. I want to see him succeed now. Good writing, both that and the DeMarcus one.

Haven't tampered much with B shows, but I do like the presentation. Short, concise and fun.

Also, it's probably because of the portrait, but does anyone else also read Marv's talking with a Tony Schiavane voice in their heads?

Saturday Week 3, October 2020

Live from the Fountain Square Theatre [indianapolis, Indiana, Great Lakes, USA]

66 people in attendance (up 9 from last show)

Commentators: Marv Earnest & Mark Hyatt

qSIrNZu.jpg?1aO4dY56.jpg

Earnest, “Hello everyone and welcome to Showdown in Naptown! We're coming to you once again from a raucous Fountain Square Threate here in Indianapolis, Indiana. I'm Marvin Earnest and I'm joined in the broadcast booth tonight by former manager-extraodinarre, Mark Hyatt. Mark, how much money did your mother spend to get you this spot?"

Hyatt, "Don't you worry about that Marv. You need to be worried about keeping your job now that you're in the booth with me! Have you seen tonight's lineup, Marv? What a night of professional wrestling action we're going to see! The Femme Fatales are finally going to run Sabrina Wells and Ruby Reece out of Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis after the Steel cage match in our main event!"

Earnest, "Well, I don't think that's what's going to happen but we're going to find out! That is our main event. There are three championships defended tonight, plus legendary wrestler Krusher Karloff is here and he's up next so let's go ringside to Steffi Chee for the introductions."

Krusher Karloff versus The Hangman

Krusher Karloff was greeted like a star. The former USPW star is old and has two bad knees and a bad back but the 66 people in attendance were definitely happy to see a star from national Television and later, national streaming services. The big Karloff was up against The Hangman -- and was the Hangman’s biggest opponent so far both in name value and size. Karloff did not look intimidated by the Hangman -- until the Hangman hit a big throat thrust that dropped Karloff. He looked up in shock from the force of the blow. Karloff fired some big shots of his own, but Hangman didn’t even register he was getting struck. The big Karloff looked shocked and became the latest victim of the Big Boot followed up by a Choke Slam and The Hangman scored a big, big victory.

In an extremely short match, The Hangman defeated Krusher Karloff in 2:22 by pinfall with a Choke Slam.

The Dog Soldiers came out to the ring. Ace Youngblood stood next to Steffi Chee.

Chee, "Last month you guys won a six man tag but then were beaten down after the match. Walk us through your thoughts."

Youngblood, “Last month, we thought we had even the score. We got a big six man win over Genesis. We were proud -- and then what happened? The fourth man, Dreadnought, came to the ring and attacked us from behind and we were left laying.”

Monterio, “And that’s unacceptable to us! We’re tired of it, Andrew Gibson. We’re tired of the attacks! We want to settle this. So here’s what we want to do. Next month. Thanksgiving Turmoil The four of you against us. Elimination. We’ll settle this thing once and for all.”

Youngblood, “And we know there are only three of us, but I know someone. Someone who doesn’t work here. Someone who wants to make a big impact in the sport of pro wrestling. He’s been around the business his whole life. His family has been around the business. He is a high-level athlete.. And he will be here next month to be with us. I’m not telling you who he is, you’ll just have to be here to see!”

Patterson & Blackburn versus Bred for Battle w/ Andrew Gibson

Well. This happened. It was just a bad day at the office for these four. All four of whom are touted prospects. They are all young, but all supposedly have high upsides. Blackburn has been working a lot in PGHW and has been noticeably improving, Patterson is a big young brawler that has been getting better -- the same with Diaz and Dreadnought, but neither team was on their game today. It was just slappy and they blew several spots, but Dreadnought hit his Dread Bomb on Blackburn and the big man got the win for his team.

In an extremely short match, Bred for Battle defeated Patterson & Blackburn in 4:57 when Dreadnought pinned Matt Blackburn with a Dread Bomb.

Nate "the Great" DeMarcus versus Philippe LaGrenier

This match was a refreshing change of pace from the previous match up. DeMarcus and LaGrenier worked a solid pace throughout the contest. DeMarcus dominated with his power early on. He tossed LaGrenier around. He hit a big two handed toss that sent LaGrenier rolling out of the ring and begging for a time out. LaGrenier begged for a break but DeMarcus came right out after him. LaGrenier ran around the ring and DeMarcus gave chase. LaGrenier slid in the ring and when DeMarcus followed him, LaGrenier hit him with a diving knee to the temple and took control of the match up. LaGrenier focused on the neck of DeMarcus -- LaGrenier’s trademark move is the Quebec Arrow, a twisting Face Crusher, and he was clearly trying to soften DeMarcus up for it. He went for it twice, but both times DeMarcus was able to push LaGrenier away. After the second one, LaGrenier came running back towards DeMarcus and got caught with a big Samoan Drop. This started DeMarcus on his comeback. His comeback was built around power spots. LaGrenier flew through the air, taking big bumps for DeMarcus. After a particularly big hip toss, DeMarcus hit the Snap Tackle and got the big singles win.

In a decent match, Nate DeMarcus defeated Philippe LaGrenier in 12:56 by pinfall with a Snap Tackle.

The COTT Mid-American Champion, Conner Threepwood came walking to the ring. He was still moving gingerly after the brutal match he had last month. Even though he’s had a month to heal, the brutality of the match clearly affected him.

Chee, "Conner, I have to ask. How are you feeling tonight?"

Threepwood, “Last month did not go the way I wanted it to go. I’ll be the first to admit that. I went into that match thinking I was going to prove something and I got my ass kicked. I’m man enough to admit that. I thoroughly got my ass-kicked. No two ways about it. Sayeed Ali came here, to my hometown and he left me laying in a pool of my own blood… but he didn’t pin me. He didn’t make me submit. Sayeed Ali. I know that wherever you are right now, you’re going to hear this. I’ve contacted the COTT. I’ve contacted CWI management. They have a contract for you. A contract with CWI. If you sign it, you’ll have a match with me for the COTT Mid-American Championship next month as Thanksgiving Turmoil. If you sign it, you will have the opportunity to win COTT gold and feel validated. You beat me here in September and you earned that shot, but it won’t be an unsanctioned, anything-goes match. It will be sanctioned. There will be rules and we’ll find out how good you are when you can’t punch a man with a chain.”

"Spicy" Pepper Pelton versus Zippy Deverell ©

Two of the hottest prospects in CWI were in the ring with one another here. This was a physical match that the crowd was really into and made up for the green-ness of both workers. Pelton has become a popular member of the roster -- his Wisconsin, Big Ten, roots making him a fan favorite while Deverell and his hillbilly-outlaw schtick has earned the ire of the audience. This was a brawl. There were not a lot of holds and there was no chain wrestling. Pelton kept trying to get his hands on Deverell and Deverell kept trying to get away. It was a game of cat and mouse and Pelton did finally get his hands on Deverell and tossed him around the ring like a rag-doll. He tried to lift him up for the Spice Rack, but Deverell raked the eyes before he could get lifted and hit the Spinning Bulldog and got his second defence of the Indiana Championship.

In a decent match, Zippy Deverell defeated Pepper Pelton in 10:18 by pinfall with a Spinning Bulldog. Zippy Deverell makes defence number two of the CWI Indiana title.

The Rock City Stars versus The Canadian Blonds ©

The second battle between these two teams was a heat-fest. The Blonds did a great job of getting the crowd against them and these two teams took their time. There was no rushing either of the duos. Slowly, they built their story. The Blonds cheated at every turn they could. At one point, Savage started arguing with Manna -- the illegal man and when referee Jez McArthur was trying to keep Manna from getting in the ring, Goldstein was choking Turner in the corner with the tag rope! Manna got tired of it and tried to come in to help his partner and the Blonds switched places in the ring and McArthur didn’t realize it. Turner started to fight back and went to make the diving tag -- but Savage got in the ring and McArthur didn’t see it. He saw Manna come in and ordered him out and the Blonds went back to work on the beaten-down Turner. Turner finally made the hot tag and Manna came in like a house of fire and both Blonds bumped big for him. Manna looked like he was going to hit the Rock and Roller on Ozzie Goldstein when Flash Savage springboarded into the ring with a knee trembler while McArthur was checking to make sure Turner could continue. McArthur turned around and saw Goldstein hit the Golden Shower (essentially an X-Factor) and make the cover and the Blonds retained their Tag Team Titles!

In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, The Canadian Blonds defeated The Rock City Stars in 21:56 when Ozzie Goldstein pinned Stan Manna with a Golden Shower. The Canadian Blonds make defence number one of the CWI Tag Team.

Felicia Luck versus "The Mistress of the DDT" Steph Blake ©

Steph Blake was accompanied to the ring with Black Diamond -- who did a really good job ringside despite not being a manager. Her natural charisma really helped her. Luck was presented as a really dangerous competitor that Blake did not want to mess with. Blake was wary of the young woman and tried to keep her distance. She was able to control most of the match and focused on the neck of Luck -- to set the young woman up for one of many DDT variations. She went for a Tornado DDT that Luck countered and was able to launch and bevy of strikes at Blake. Blake tried to run but she couldn’t get far away. Luck hit her Lucky Strike, a running knee to the face and Steph Blake was out -- but Black Diamond was on the apron. Referee Bret Graveson ordered her down but she wouldn’t get down and Luck hit her with a Lucky Strike and Black Diamond took a big bump off the apron to the floor. Unfortunately, the time spent dealing with Diamond was enough that Steph Blake was able to recover. She blindsided Luck and quickly hit her with the Slingshot DDT and Steph Blake got the big win!

In a bout that had great heat and decent wrestling, Steph Blake defeated Felicia Luck in 14:39 by pinfall with a Slingshot DDT following interference from Black Diamond. Steph Blake makes defence number four of the CWI Women's.

Reece & Wells versus The Femme Fatales

The main event came after a late intermission -- taken so that CWI could set the cage up. This isn’t an SWF or USPW operation where the cage is lowered, the fencing had to be manually put on the ring apron and tied together. It was a good match, but all four women are still relatively inexperienced. It was a brawl for sure. By nature of it being in a cage, it was a tornado tag match. CWI follows the classic (and really the only cage rules that SHOULD exist), that you win by pinning or making your opponent submit. This was a fight for sure. All four women went into the cage and got some juice (a cage match isn’t a cage match without blood). Frost, in particular, got busted open with a real gnarly gash and a couple of gashes on her arms and shoulders that made her look like a crazed female Viking. Wells’ blonde and pink hair was stained red with her own blood as well and it really added to the drama of the match. There were several near falls -- but the match ended when Wells Super Kicked Neema and Reece hit a Head Kick on Frost and got the pinfall victory.

In a decent match, Reece & Wells defeated Femme Fatales in a Cage match in 21:03 when Ruby Reece pinned Urena Frost with a Head Kick.

Urena Frost carried the match in terms of in-ring performance.

First I would like to say thank you for the nominations for Diary of the Month and the various categories. It's always nice to see that people are enjoying what you're writing (and I'm enjoying writing it!)

That is our October show in the books! I was a little disappointed with the main event of the show. I was hoping that it would deliver a better rating. Urena Frost, in particular, is a really, really bright prospect. Even though she's an original character, she wasn't built to be over powered, but her destiny roll has given her a couple of really good potential stats that mean she could be great. Plus, she's also working for CWWF and has been on every all-women's independent show in the US and Canada, so she's getting a lot of work. The other three are also really good prospects and I was bummed that they didn't tear the house down in the cage. The tag match with Patterson/Blackburn and Bred for Battle was really disappointing. Blackburn has been getting a lot of work in Japan and I want to see him start delivering the kind of quality matches he has been delivering there. Patterson has been underwhelming so far. Dreadnought and Diaz are both just very very green and both were off their game on this show. C'est la vie.

This month we had *seven* perfect scores out of the 19 predictions. That's more than I expected but I expected some perfect scores. With Lilly and Rose being heels and the World Tag Champs, I had to put Reece and Wells over -- plus, Neema and Frost can get their heat back in other programs but I felt like Reece and Wells would have been dead-in-the-water here as they wouldn't have had any other heels to work with.

Threepwood continues to be an interesting character. I'm not sure if he'll be the guy long term like Riley was in The Climb, his star quality isn't great and at some point he'll hit a ceiling, I'm sure -- but he's been really impressing me with his microphone work!

Also, a special thanks to willr0ck who made the Frost and Neema renders. I believe both of them will be featured in the upcoming women's expansion that he's working on -- so you'll be able to add these two to your own universe! When the women's expansion drops, I will be adding the women into my game (and maybe the promotions too, though it's harder to add the promotions into the save and keep continuity with what's been going on, but the individual workers are definitely easier to add).
