The opening contest of Hoosier Hysteria was for the Heritage Championship and presented a solid opening contest. Joey Fili, who has been on a roll since losing to Funky Fedora in the fall, had the opportunity against Jack Jackson -- who has also been on a roll since debuting in HPW. They did not do anything fancy in the contest -- it was just a solid opening affair. Fili started the contest off in control, showing his power to toss Jackson around. Jackson used a handful of hair to get control. Jackson also didn’t do anything fancy, he kept his offense simple -- working towards his Implant DDT. Fili kept fighting out of the DDT, but ultimately, Jackson was able to hit the Implant DDT and score the victory and the title defense.</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

In a bout that had great heat and decent wrestling, Jack Jackson defeated Joey Fili in 10:30 by pinfall with an Implant DDT. Jack Jackson makes defence number one of the HPW Heritage title. </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

Lucy Stone-McFly w/ Storm versus "The World's Most Dangerous Woman" Morgan Stryker ©</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

The Women’s Championship was on the line and while the opening contest was a solid affair, this took the action up a level. Lucy came to the ring with Storm and the duo just looked liked a big money duo. LSM wore a new jacket and sunglasses to the ring and looked like she was fully embracing her new heel persona fully. Morgan Stryker came to the ring looking like she was ready for a big fight. The match started off slow with chain wrestling. LSM got to show the Stone family pedigree in her -- her ability to go hold-for-hold with one of the best grapplers in the sport. Neither was able to gain the upper hand in the opening moments -- until Morgan was able to counter a wrist lock into an over-the-shoulder throw that sent LSM flying through the air and crashing down into the mat. LSM immediately rolled to the outside to create separation and prevent Stryker from being able to build more momentum. Stryker showed real veteran presence by refusing to follow LSM to the ringside area. LSM got back into the ring before she was counted out. Stryker came in for a Flying Knee, but LSM slid underneath the knee and came up behind Stryker with a Snap German Suplex that dropped Stryker on her neck. Stryker staggered to her feet and LSM hit a Super Kick for a near fall. LSM pulled Stryker to her feet and hit a Snap Suplex and then went to the top rope and came off for her father’s patented Snap Legdrop, but Stryker rolled out of the way and LSM got all tailbone on the mat. Stryker took the opportunity to lock in a deep Boston Crab and try to force the submission, but LSM showed excellent technical prowess by pulling the ankles of Stryker to throw off her balance and break the hold. Both women got back to their feet and LSM went for another kick, but Stryker caught it and pulled it into a Capture Suplex that sent LSM through the air and crashing into the mat. Stryker went on the attack with several more suplexes and throws. LSM looked to be loopy when she got back to her feet and Morgan lifted her -- looking like she was going for a powerbomb, but LSM countered with a hurricanrana that sent Stryker out of the ring. LSM followed her out and the two women continued to fight around the ring and neither were able to make it into the ring before Kessie Lee Walker reached the ten count, thus rendering this match a draw by double count out. Storm turned out to be a non-factor at ringside.</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Lucy Stone-McFly drew with Morgan Stryker in 9:48 following a double count out. </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

The World Six-Man Championships were on the line next as the reigning champions, representing ACPW, put their seven month reign on the line against Deverell’s Army. While originally, this was supposed to be Zippy with both Tagg brothers, big Roy Goodlooks has had to fill in for the injured Kalder. Zippy, despite his success in HPW (with three reigns as Indiana/Heritage Champion), he has never held a World Title and the </span></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"><em>Hillbilly Outlaw</em></span></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> was in rare form in this match. He looked to be fully motivated and the wild-eyed Southern boy from Corbin, Kentucky was all fists and headbutts and viciousness as he tried to lead his team to victory. Wolfie and Roy held their end of the bargain up by being the overwhelming physical muscle -- and ultimately it was the size of Tagg and Goodlooks that made the difference -- as the smaller Canadian team couldn’t match the power. Zippy hit the Spinning Bulldog on Grimm Quibble and got the pin and the victory for Deverell’s Army.</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

In a bout that had fantastic heat and good wrestling, Deverell's Army (Zippy Deverell, Wolfie Tagg and Roy Goodlooks) defeated Grimm Quibble, Leftie Wilkes and Marcel LeFleur in 12:18 when Zippy Deverell pinned Grimm Quibble with a Spinning Bulldog. Zippy Deverell, Wolfie Tagg and Roy Goodlooks win the COTT World Six Man titles. Roy Goodlooks was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance. </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

Since November of 2023, Maribel Mercardo has been at the top of the COTT World Women’s rankings. Frankie Carmello has been on quite the roll as a wrestler and the Colombian-born grappler has the biggest opportunity of her young career in this contest. The two made for really good opponents for one another. Mercado has developed into a great heel/rudo champion who sells for the babyface and Carmello is a fiery babyface with a lot of passion and a great high impact/high risk offense that really fits in with HPW as its style continues to evolve into a more hybrid product with an old-school studio feel. Carmello controlled most of the match and Mercado took all of Carmello’s big offense. Their lucha backgrounds worked well for both women and helped elevate the match. The crowd was really into this and were really hopeful that Frankie Carmello was about to win the World Women’s Championship, but Mercado ducked under a Mafia Kick and rolled Carmello up and used a handful of tights to keep the leverage and get the win and her record-setting twenty-eighth defense of the championship.</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Maribel Mercado defeated Frankie Carmello in 11:06 by pinfall by using underhanded tactics. Our third women’s match was up next and this was different. Four teams, elimination rules, the winners would unify the HPW Women’s Tag Team Titles with the vacant COTT World Women’s Tag Team Championship. In HPW, the elimination tag matches operate differently than anyplace else. Instead of just two wrestlers being in the ring, one wrestler from each team is in the ring at all times. It made for a tough match for Kessie Lee Walker to call -- she had to watch four wrestlers in the ring and watch for any tags going on, but Walker was up for the challenge in this contest and the four teams were all up for the challenge. This match marked Urena Frost’s in-ring return to HPW and she was at the top of her game and was the general in the match. Talia Neema looked to be frustrated though -- and that story would play out over the match. Yvonne Ericks hit her </span></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"><em>Mafia Kick</em></span></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> on La Hija del Phoenix to eliminate the Daughters of Lucha Libre and make it three teams. Now it was the Hermanas de Pestilence and the Femme Fatales. The two teams went at it for several minutes and it looked like the Femme Fatales at it won -- Urena had Miseria in a world of trouble when suddenly, Talia Neema hit her own partner, on purpose, with the </span></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"><em>Hieroglyph</em></span></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> and walked away, leaving Urena Frost to get pinned by Miseria -- who officially become the COTT World Women’s Tag Team Champions.</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, Senora Agonia and Senora Miseria defeated Daughters of Lucha Libre, The Omega Chicks and Femme Fatales in 20:22; the order of elimination was Daughters of Lucha Libre first, then The Omega Chicks, and finally Femme Fatales. Senora Agonia and Senora Miseria win the COTT World Women's Tag Team titles. Senora Agonia and Senora Miseria make defence number two of the HPW Women's Tag Team titles. The Mid American Championship match was up next. Brandon Smith, the new champion, was attempting to make his first defense of the title against a highly motivated Wild Red Stallion. Stallion had the biggest singles match of his career in front of him. A match with Bulldozer Brandon Smith on a big stage and the two men delivered the kind of match you’d expect from two big hosses like this. It was hard hitting -- forearms and hard kicks and slams that would have fit right in Black Canvas Grappling or Pride Glory Honor Wrestling or one of the other puro hotbeds. Stallion went toe to toe with Bulldozer and never backed down and Stallion became the first man that Bulldozer didn’t steam roll. Stallion even got the big man from Robbinsdale, Minnesota up into the air for a Press Slam. The people were firmly behind Stallion throughout the match and when Bulldozer slid out of the Lakota Cutter and got Stallion’s back so that he could hit a </span></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"><em>Backdrop Driver</em></span></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> that folded Stallion up and allowed Smith to get the title defense in a great match.</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

Funky Fedora w/ Lucinda Lush versus Amazing Fire Fly ©</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

The main event of the evening. The World’s Heavyweight Championship. There was pageantry in the entrances -- HPW has always presented World title fights as big deals. This was the second time these two men have met in singles action -- the first time being a year ago for the World’s Championship at this same show, in the same venue. Tonight, Amazing Fire Fly was coming in with twenty-seven successful defences of the World’s Title while Funky Fedora was coming off of his fourteen month reign as Mid American Champion. The match started off slow with Fedora attempting to use his size advantage to over power the smaller luchadore, but Amazing Fire Fly’s quickness allowed him to consistently get out of the power of Fedora and showcase fluid technical skills by getting Fedora down to the mat. Fire Fly tried to twist Fedora like a pretzel, but Fedora had the strength advantage and was able to power out of the holds and get back to his feet. Fire Fly hit a Frankensteiner -- while not as impressive as a big man doing it -- was impressive nonetheless to happen so early on. Fedora immediately powdered out of the ring and Fire Fly took to the air for the singular dive out of the ring to the floor on the whole show. Fire Fly landed flesh on Fedora and took both men down and Lucinda Lush threw a fit on the outside and the people really popped for the spot. Fire Fly got Fedora back into the ring and as he was trying to get in the ring himself, Lush grabbed him by the foot. The momentary distraction allowed Fedora to seize control and we transitioned into the heat. Fedora worked slow and purposeful. Fedora isn’t a classically gifted technician or a wild-brawler, he’s an old fashioned Southern heel. Everything he did was simple but executed well. He hit a Fist Drop and then worked a chinlock. He hit a Bulldog and then worked a Side Headlock. Everything he did focused on the head and neck -- trying to soften Fire Fly up for the Top Rope Knee Drop or the Slingshot Back Suplex. Everything was purposeful. Fedora hit a neckbreaker and then a Knee Drop where he just leapt up and came down with his knee. </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

The crowd was into it as Fedora continued to punish Fire Fly -- but every few minutes, Fire Fly would fire up. He’d hit a couple of strikes to create separation and then he would hit some sort of aerial move -- a springboard jawbreaker being the most impressive -- but each time Fire Fly got rolling, Fedora would take another cheap shot to slow him down and get control back. He raked the eyes. He tugged at the mask. He grabbed a handful of tights -- anything he could do to throw Fire Fly off balance and allow himself to get control. Fedora set Fire Fly up and looked like he was going to hit the Slingshot Back Suplex, but Fire Fly used the Slingshot momentum to flip up and over Fedora. He landed behind him and immediately jumped up onto Fedora’s shoulders and hit a Poison Rana that really caught the crowd off guard. Those sort of bumps weren’t normal in HPW and the fans seemed to really take to it. Fire Fly hit a Standing Shooting Star Press for a near Fall and then went to the top rope for his </span></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"><em>Sky High Fire Fly</em></span></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">, that connected perfectly and got him his twenty-eighth title defense.</span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Georgia;"><span style="font-size:12px;">

While the four locker rooms (a babyface and heel for each gender) in the Fountain Square Theatre were slowly emptying -- the building had recently been renovated so that two previously unusable rooms could now be used -- Zippy Deverell found a quiet corner of solace. It had been a good night for him. He had won a World’s Title. While not a singles title, it was still something. It was something that meant he would be travelling around North America and defending the title in front of new crowds. He was going to get his name out there.

When he started in Heartland Pro Wrestling, then Championship Wrestling from Indianapolis, he was just a rookie who could talk a little bit. He wasn’t much back then but a wide-eyed rookie trying to make something of himself. Flash forward five full years later, he was a stalwart of the company, a break out star, and now one third of the World Six Man Champions -- and he was the leader of that group. He was the big star.

With no one around him, he sat on the floor. He was going to be celebrating later, he knew that. Yvonne would want to do something -- as would Wolfie and Roy and Haley and some of his other friends. They’d probably bring some booze back to the hotel and celebrate there where they were safe from the prying eyes of fans. Before that happened, he wanted just a moment of quiet reflection. It was bittersweet, winning a World’s Title. It was a great, career-defining moment but it was also a moment he couldn’t share with his father. That made it bitter. He wanted nothing more for his father to be there with him. To share in the moment with him. To be able to text or call him and talk about the match and the success of it and really just to hear his voice. He missed his father. Nights like this, where they would otherwise have had the opportunity to talk to one another, those nights hurt the worst. Those were the nights where he could clearly picture his father’s voice in his head and the laughs they might share.

“Babe, there you are.”

Zippy looked up to see Yvonne. She had found him -- not that it was a bad thing she had. He wasn’t trying not to be found, he was just trying to find a moment of peace and quiet in an otherwise crazy life.

“You okay?” Yvonne asked as she knelt down to be level with Zippy.

He nodded, “Yeah, I’m good. Just needed a minute.”

“Today was a lot,” She said with an understanding smile.

“I just… I miss him,” Zippy said with a shrug as if trying to dismiss his own feelings.

“Of course you do. It’s okay to miss him. It’s perfectly normal,” She reassured him and he nodded. He wasn’t upset that he missed his father. He wasn’t embarrassed by it, but he also didn’t want to advertise it. He didn’t want the sympathy right now. Tonight was a success all around. They had a great show. People worked hard. They were on cloud nine and him being down would only bring them down and he didn’t want that.

“I just didn’t want people feeling sorry for me. Not tonight.”

She nodded and said nothing. They sat there for a long moment in a comfortable silence. The kind of silence that can only come with people who have been intimate with one another. He exhaled and started to stand and Yvonne matched his movements.

“We don’t have to do anything tonight if you don’t want to,” She offered but Zippy shook his head.

“No, he wouldn’t want that. He’d want me living it up and that’s what we’re going to do,” Zippy said emphatically.

Yvonne just nodded and smiled. “Then that is exactly what we are going to do.”

She held her hand out and he took it and the two of them walked back towards the chaos of a show being broken down.

“You’re too good to me,” Zippy said midstride.

“I know.”

“And you’re so humble.”

They laughed and suddenly the melancholy was gone and Zippy wasn’t a son mourning his father’s passing and being unable to share a moment with him but rather a significant other sharing a laugh with his partner. Zippy knew what the plan was for him this year. Marv had shared the year-long booking plan withhim at the start of the year. It was typical Marv. Zippy knew the melancholy would come back. If the year went like Marv had told him it was going to go, it was going to be a big, big year for him.

Earnest, “Hello everyone and welcome to another exciting and thrill packed episode of Wrestling Spotlight right here on WrestleWorld. I’m Marv Earnest and I’m joined today by my broadcast colleague, Grace Harper and Grace, what a night we have. We’re fresh off the heels of Hoosier Hysteria and the Showcase of Champions, but we also kick off our sixth annual March Madness tournament with the Block A opening round tonight.”

Harper, ”I look forward to March Madness every year. It’s a great time of year and last year was the first year that March Madness was expanded to sixteen teams -- something that continues this year. There are a lot of great teams in the tournament. Former COTT World Tag Team Champions, The Ring Generals are in it. Former two-time HPW Tag Team Champions, The Dynamite Express, are also in the tournament. As are the very accomplished Thunder & Lightning, who have been champions in PSW and CWA. Death Row has arrived in HPW and will be competing. Gosh, I’m so excited.”

Earnest, “I am too, Grace. I’m so incredibly excited. I love tag team wrestling -- I’m not ashamed to admit it. I’ve always been a fan of great tag team wrestling and March Madness is the premier tag team tournament in all of independent professional wrestling. We have representatives from seven different companies in the COTT and representatives from the independent wrestling scene who are not affiliated full time with any major wrestling organization. Sixteen teams, thirty-two men, all vying for the trophies and the right to challenge for the HPW Tag Team Titles in May at the sixth annual Circle City Classic. There is a lot riding on this tournament and the next month of Wrestling Spotlight’s is going to be incredibly competitive. You won’t want to miss a second of it.”

Harper, “Why would you ever miss a second of the best wrestling show you will watch this week? That’s just ridiculous.”

Earnest, “I couldn’t agree more -- and right now we’re going to go to Taylor Gordy who is standing by with Mark Hyatt and the COTT Mid American Champion, ‘Bulldozer’ Brandon Smith.”

05TFh3q.png

The camera slides over from the commentary table over to the interview set where Taylor Gordy, the ring announcer and interviewer extraordinaire is standing with Mark Hyatt. The Mid American Champion, Brandon Smith, is snarling behind both of them, staring at the camera.

TiIkT9w.jpgaO4dY56.jpgSV5X1fA.jpg

Gordy, “This past Saturday at Hoosier Hysteria, Brandon was successful in defending the Mid American Championship against Wild Red Stallion --”

Hyatt, “Of course he was! I told you he was going to be. He’s Big Poppa Dozer. He’s the most dominant, destructive force in this sport. He put Nicky Champion out of the sport. He is undefeated. He has run through everyone that’s been in the ring with him and Wild Red Stallion put up a valiant effort. Boy, he really tried at Hoosier Hysteria. He gave it his very best but his very best wasn’t good enough. That’s not an insult either. No one’s best is good enough.”

Gordy, “Well do you know what’s next for the Mid American Champion? What do you guys have planned?”

Hyatt, “Nothing right now. We are taking this month to enjoy the great action that the March Madness tournament is going to give. Brandon is an accomplished tag wrestler in addition to being a dominant singles wrestler. I love tag team wrestling and so does Brandon. We’re very interested in seeing what is going to happen.”

Gordy, “Do you have any predictions?”

Hyatt, “I do. My mama had me put money down on The Dynamite Express -- the best tag team in all of wrestling!”

Gordy, “What about The Wolf Pack -- your former charges? They’re in the tournament as well.”

Hyatt, “I don’t want to talk about them after what they did to me. I hope they get what’s coming to them the way they abandoned me when HPW and the COTT conspired with the Athletic Commission here in the State of Indiana to have my managerial license suspended. They left me high and dry and didn’t stand up for me at all. Despite all the money my mama put in to making sure they had the very best training in the world. So I’m fully behind The Dynamite Express -- a real team that’s never done anything but show me and Brandon respect. But that’s all you’re getting from me, Taylor. Brandon and I have a show to watch.”

Mark Hyatt led Brandon Smith off.

Gordy, “Well, we know who Mark Hyatt and Brandon Smith are supporting in the March Madness tournament. Back to you Marv and Grace.”

Earnest, “Thank you, Taylor Gordy. Tonight’s Block A starts with The Dynamite Express going toe to toe with Harvey MacDonald and Rodney St. Pierre.”

Harper, ”All the smart money's on the Dynamite Express. They’re one of the three most accomplished teams in this tournament along with The Ring Generals and Thunder & Lightning. The Dynamite Express have twice been HPW Tag Team Champions. They’re an incredibly talented team that are the epitome of teamwork and of knowing your partner; however, Harvey MacDonald and Rodney St. Pierre, while rookies with only a couple of matches under the belt, they went through the No Ordinary Men Academy of Pro Wrestling together. They’ve been teaming together in training and since turning pro. They know each other well and are looking for a big break in their careers. This could be that break. Sometimes a team that is heavily favored can underestimate the underdog and it can come back to cost them.”

Harvey MacDonald & Rodney St. Pierre versus The Dynamite Express

The Dynamite Express came out of the gate trying to end the match quickly. They were focused and motivated to make short work of MacDonald & St. Pierre, but the two young graduates of the NOM Academy of Pro Wrestling were very surprising in this contest. They kept finding ways out of trouble and got several near falls. This was a story of almosts -- MacDonald & St. Pierre ALMOST got the job done, but the Dynamite Express, with all of their experience and all of their skills, were just too much for them and a Chop and Charge on MacDonald secured the victory.

In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, The Dynamite Express defeated Harvey MacDonald and Rodney St. Pierre in 7:55 when Cam Jones pinned Harvey MacDonald with a Chop and Charge. This match was part of the 'March Madness VI' tournament.

Earnest, “The Dynamite Express did not underestimate their opponents tonight. A valiant effort from MacDonald and St. Pierre, but they came up short tonight and the Dynamite Express have punched their way to the Elite Eight in two weeks.”

Harper, ”MacDonald and St Pierre showed some impressive team work -- their double dropkick almost got them the win, but that experience edge for the Dynamite Express was the difference maker. They didn’t panic when they got into deep waters, they stuck to their game plan and they hit the Chop and Charge and are one step closer to the trophies.

Earnest, “Before we get to our second match of the tournament, we have a video to promote a wrestler who is going to be coming to HPW very soon.”

SToNX1I.jpg

A video package rolls showing a muscular blonde man with facepaint. All of the footage is him in training matches -- nothing from his career so far. HPW couldn’t get the footage frm his actual career. In the footage, he hits a flying splash, He hits a big High Knee, a Press Powerslam, and locks in the Torture Rack. The video is interspliced with still pictures from wrestling magazines (all properly credited) that show matches from RIPW, one of the stills is from the win of the RIPW Tag Team Titles and th other from winning the RIPW USA Championship. The video ends with superimposed text saying: ZAP! COMING SOON

Earnest, “Zap is coming to HPW! One of the hottest young wrestlers in North America has apparently signed with Heartland Pro Wrestling! That’s big news.”

Harper, ”It certainly is Marv. Did you see some of that footage? Wowie. That kid could go places. He looks like he was carved out of granite and still had explosiveness. Zap could be a big difference maker here in HPW.”

Earnest, “He absolutely could be, but he’s not here tonight. We’re ready for the second match of the A Block in the March Madness tournament. Thunder & Lightning will be taking on the Assassins.”

Harper, ”Thunder & Lightning are making their debuts in HPW here. They have nine sets of Tag Team Championships as a duo. They’re incredibly accomplished and one of the best tag teams in the world. We don’t know much about the masked Assassins. We do know that they have been very successful since arriving in HPW in the fall. We also know that they want to be the team that knocks off a highly touted duo like Thunder & Lightning in the Opening Round.”

Thunder & Lightning versus The Assassins

A big debut here for Thunder & Lightning. The former 4C and PSW Standouts had a good career in CWA before being deemed surplus to budget requirements and were released. This was their first appearance other than a couple of independent spot shows since being released near the end of 2024. The Assassins had a lot of momentum going into this match and they actually controlled the majority of the contest. They were fighting dirty and taking shortcuts and they put Thunder & Lightning in real jeopardy. Several times, the Assassins looked like they had Lightning Lomas put away, but Lomas was able to make a tag to Jason Thunder and Thunder came in...well… like a house of Thunder. He was able to clean house and hit his Thunder Struck on Assassin #1 to get the win.

In a decent match, Thunder & Lightning defeated The Assassins in 11:38 when Jason Thunder pinned Assassin #1 with a Thunder Struck. This match was part of the 'March Madness VI' tournament.

Earnest, “It took a Thunder Struck, but Thunder & Lightning are heading to the Elite Eight.”

Harper, ”The Assassins looked very good in this match -- I thought they were going to pull it off. They really had Lightning Lomas on the ropes -- if he hadn’t been able to tag Jason Thunder in when he did, I think we would have a different finish to the match.”

Earnest, “You might be right, Grace, but that means that we have The Dynamite Express and Thunder & Lightning in the Elite Eight in two weeks and that should be a barn-burner.”

Harper, ”It should be -- two teams that no each other well and have wrestled each other several times. It should be a great match up.”

Earnest, “Before we get to the next match up, we have Taylor Gordy standing by with Lucy Stone-McFly.”

The camera slides from the announcing desk to the interview set where Taylor Gordy is standing by with Lucy Stone-McFly and her bodyguard Storm.

Gordy, “At Hoosier Hysteria, you had an opportunity to win the Women’s Championship from Morgan Stryker -- but the match ended in a double count out. Obviously that’s not the outcome you wanted.”

McFly, “Of course that’s not the outcome I wanted. You think I wanted Morgan Stryker to be a coward and get us counted out?”

Gordy, “Well wait a minute --”

McFly, “No you wait a minute. That’s exactly what happened. You saw it. I saw it. Storm saw it. The whole world saw it! She ran from the ring and she held me so I couldn’t get back in. She was scared because she knew that I was moments away from winning the Women’s Championship for the third time. I knew that Morgan Stryker wasn’t as good of a wrestler as I am, but I didn’t know she was such a coward as she would get us counted out to keep her title.”

Gordy, “That’s really extreme to call Morgan Stryker a coward.”

McFly, “Well, she’s an extreme coward! Morgan Stryker pretends to be this wrestler that never backs down from a challenge -- but when she was in the ring with me she backed down. That’s pathetic. That’s not what champions are supposed to be and Morgan Stryker, one of these days, we’re going to get in the ring with one another again and next time it doesn’t matter what kind of coward she is because I’m going to take that title back.”

Lucy Stone-McFly and Storm march off and Taylor Gordy looks right in the camera.

Gordy, “Very incendiary words from Lucy Stone-McFly. I’m sure they won’t sit well with Morgan Stryker. Back to you Marv and Grace.”

Earnest, “Thank you Taylor Gordy. Just like you, I’m sure that Morgan Stryker is going to have something to say to Lucy Stone-McFly. Morgan is not one to take being called a coward lightly.”

Harper, ”No she’s not. She’s a fighter and Lucy is floating down a dangerous river if she’s going to call Morgan a coward.”

Earnest, “We will keep you all updated with that situation -- but up next is our third match from Block A in the March Madness tournament. This one pits The Manifesto against Death Row.”

Harper, ”This is a very interesting match up, Marv. Death Row is incredibly experienced. They have twenty years of teaming under their belt. They're big and physical and violent and they know each other inside and out. The Manifesto is younger with less experience, but they are also longtime teammates. They played college football together. They got into wrestling together. They’ve been very, very good as a tag team. They have not lost a tag team match since March Madness V. That’s great consistency and momentum for them. They have great size, speed, and explosiveness. This should be a high quality match up and either of these teams could go really far.”

The Manifesto versus Death Row

This was a short and ultra physical match up. Death Row is long past their prime and get by still on being big and bruising and violent. They brought that to the ring against The Manifesto -- who have been built as the ultra athletic, wrestling tag team (think the Steiners). This was wild and completely different than the first two matches, but it also ended quick when they hit Knuckles with The Credential to get the victory.

In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, The Manifesto defeated Death Row in 5:51 when Bobby Marks pinned Knuckles with The Credential. This match was part of the 'March Madness VI' tournament.

Earnest, “The Manifesto just pulled off the upset against the veteran team. That was a great contest. Very competitive. Very physical.”

Harper, ”It was exactly what I thought it was going to be. It was physical and four big bulls locked in a rut and The Manifesto pulled it out with that Credential move that has served them very well as a team.”

Earnest, “They’ll face the winner of our main event -- but before we get there, we have some video footage to show you. So production team, roll the footage.”

We cut to what looks to be a parking lot security camera recording. The date and timestamp on the video let us know this was just after Hoosier Hysteria went off the air. We see veteran wrestler Sean McFly -- who did not wrestle at Hoosier Hysteria, loading up a bag into the trunk of his Mercedes. He turns at something we can’t see and starts to exchange words with someone off screen. Funky Fedora and Lucinda Lush walk into the frame and the two of them continue to exchange words with Sean McFly. Something is said and Funky shoves McFly and McFly responds by slapping Fedora. Right after the slap, Lush digs into her purse and pulls out some sort of spray. She sprays it right into McFly’s eyes and his hands go up and Fedora goes on the attack. He throws several right hands at McFly before grabbing him by the head and throwing him against the trunk of his car. Then he drives McFly’s head through the backseat, driver side, window. McFly stays stuck in his car as Fedora and Lush quickly make an exit.

Gordy, “We just saw some very disturbing video footage. Why did you guys attack Sean McFly?”

Fedora, “The video didn’t have the horrible things Sean McFly said to Lucinda. You know, since he got here, he’s been treated like a hero and a legend of wrestling but the things he said to Lucinda that night were completely vile and inappropriate.”

Gordy, “What did he say to you Lucinda?”

Fedora, “She’s a lady, she’s not going to repeat those words and for her honor, I’m not either. I don’t want her to have to relive those horrors but Sean McFly. Youre lucky that’s all I did to you. You’d be wise to not show your face around here again.”

Funky Fedora led Lucinda Lush off.

Gordy, “I’m not quite sure what to make of what we have just seen and heard, but Marv and Grace back to you.”

Earnest, “I’m not either. That doesn’t sound like the Sean McFly I know. I think there is something we’re not being told.”

Harper, ”You never know, Marv, but something does sound fishy.”

Earnest, “We will try to dig deeper into this story to get more information, but it is time now for our main event -- the final match of the Block A for March Madness. Rich & Famous take on The Casey Brothers.”

Harper, ”This is a very important match too, Marv. The Casey Brothers came into HPW with a lot of fanfare and looked like they were going to be a top tag team. They’ve stumbled a little bit out of the block and they need a win here to keep themselves going in HPW. Rich & Famous have been a team for almost twenty years. They’ve won nine sets of tag team titles and have been successful all across the United States. They’re incredibly talented -- but they’ve never won a tag team tournament. A tag tournament is a different beast all together. You don’t have the time to prepare like you would for a normal match. This tournament takes place over a month - but they’ll have two weeks to prepare for the second round and then a week for the final four and a handful of minutes for the finals. It is gruelling. It is taxing and Rich & Famous are going to want to prove that they’re a big money tag team that can win tournaments as well.

The Casey Brothers versus Rich And Famous

The main event pit a desperate Casey Brothers against a highly motivated Rich & Famous. The Casey Brothers brought the fight to Rich & Famous and tried to end it quick and early, but Rich & Famous weren’t going down without a fight. The match settled into a very solid tag team affair with classic tag team action. Rich & Famous controlled the action after the early storm. They isolated Chuck Casey and really wore him down. Several times he came close to tagging Tully, but Rich & Famous kept Chuck isolated and were actually able to hit the Cash In to put him away before he could ever tag Tully back in.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and good wrestling, Rich And Famous defeated The Casey Brothers in 13:31 when Jackpot Jordan pinned Chuck Casey with a Cash In. This match was part of the 'March Madness VI' tournament.

There aren’t stories of me being a crappy dad or cheating on my significant other. None of that. You know what they say about Sean McFly? They say I’m a model wrestler. I’m the kind of guy you want in your locker room. I’m the kind of guy who is never going to be a problem. I conduct myself with dignity. The Rock City Stars vs The Gilbert Brothers</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

The Gilbert Brothers have definitely had their best days. Their prime is watching them from the rearview and despite being the reigning BMCW Tag Team Champions (and working for ACPW), they’re not the athletes they once were -- but neither on the Rock City Stars and this made of a not great match that was saved by the charisma of both teams. If it wasn’t for that, this would have been much worse. The Rock City Stars were the crowd favorites with many in the crowd having attended the very first March Madness tournament six years ago. Ryan Turner hit his Six String Shooter on Joe Gilbert to get the win for his team.</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

Roughhouse Riders vs Mexican Hardcore Killers</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

This match was short and action packed and wild. Mexican Hardcore Killers are two wild brawlers and they were outsized by Roughhouse Riders. They tried to even the score with wild brawling, but the Roughhouse Riders were equal to it and the two big men brought the fight right back to the Mexican Hardcore Killers. Jimmy Dillon hit a big crossbody that sent both him and E-Z to the floor and Victor Crash was able to hit his Ice Backbreaker on Sanchez Villano to get the win.</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

We are treated to a hype package over Jack Jackson. It showcases his wins so far in HPW and mixes that with him holding the Heritage Championship. He’s a sensational wrestler with almost thirty full years of being active in the sport. Phoenix IV is a great young wrestler. He’s the heir to the Phoenix legacy. His father is the original Phoenix in Mexico and Phoenix IV has won a lot of championships in his career so far. He’s thrice won the Mexican Championship in OLLIE. He’s held the trios titles on three separate occasions and held the tag titles on three different occasions -- twice with Axxis Jr. Then you have The Ring Generals. Twenty years they’ve been a team. They’ve won eleven sets of tag team titles as a pair. They’ve also won the prestigious PGHW Elite Tag Series. They’re an incredibly experienced team and they’re managed by Lucinda Lush. This should be a great match.”</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

Axxis Jr & Phoenix IV vs The Ring Generals</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

This match really delivered on the hype. It allowed The Ring Generals to go against a team with a style they don’t normally work -- the Ring Generals aren’t known for being lucha wrestlers, after all. Despite being 47 years old, Axxis Jr. was in rare form. He was actually in the ring the most for his team and he hit all of his trademark spots -- including the Gravity Axxisault -- his high vertical Moonsault that he purposely slightly overshoots so that he actually lands a powerful Headbutt instead. If it wasn’t for a well timed distraction from Lucinda Lush, that would have been all she wrote. Phoenix IV tagged in and Phoenix IV immediately went for the Phoenix Sault -- the Quebrada style move that his father made famous in Mexico, but Waldorf pulled Statler out of the way. They made the tag and immediately hit Phoenix IV with a Wheelbarrow Bomb to get the victory.</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, The Ring Generals defeated Phoenix IV & Axxis in 11:46 when Dean Waldorf pinned Phoenix IV with a Wheelbarrow Bomb. Axxis Jr carried the match in terms of in-ring performance. This match was part of the 'March Madness VI' tournament. </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

</span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="color:#800080;"><strong>Harper</strong></span></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">, ”That should be a great match, but I’m blown away but Axxis Jr. Tonight, he really dialed back the hands of time and brought his A Game.”</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

</span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><strong>Neema</strong></span><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">, “Because she left me here, Taylor. We’re supposed to be best friends. She never tried to bring me up with her. Nothing. She just left me here to rot. But I didn’t rot, did I? No. I succeeded. I won the All Action Championship and unified it with the Women’s Championship. That was ME! And then she comes riding back and I’m supposed to be second fiddle to her again? I don’t think so. She left. She should be thanking me that I told HPW management to bring her back. She should be thanking me for her job and a chance to keep making a living in this sport. But she hasn’t been. She just wanted me to carry her back to the championship picture and I’m tired of carrying people Taylor. I’m tired of making people stars. I’ve been here since the beginning. I’ve never left. I’ve held every championship open to me EXCEPT the Women’s World Championship. I’ve done nothing but be successful and I’m going to continue to be successful without having to carry her.”</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

Nate DeMarcus & Warwick Good vs The Wolf Pack</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

The main event of the evening was really good as well. The crowd was really into this. The Wolf Pack have really grown into their own in the past six years and controlled the match. They isolated Warwick Good who sold his ass off until he could make the tag to Nate DeMarcus. DeMarcus came in with all the babyface fire that he could muster and the crowd was really behind him. They love Nate DeMarcus in Indianapolis and The Wolf Pack took big bumps for him. This was the only match of the night that followed proper traditional American tag team wrestling. The opening match had come close, but they didn’t do any extended heat spots and the match wasn’t very good. This match was and they hit all of the big traditional beats of a tag match. Nate tagged in Warwick and then hit the ropes. He looked like he wanted to hit Sean Noggin with a Spear, but Noggin moved out of the way and Nate hit Warwick. Noggin dumped Nate out of the ring and then hit the Hangman’s Neckbreaker on Warwick Good for the pinfall. Nate DeMarcus looked noticeably frustrated on the floor after the match.</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

In a bout that had fantastic heat and good wrestling, The Wolf Pack defeated Nate DeMarcus and Warwick Good in 13:46 when Sean Noggin pinned Warwick Good with a Hangman's Neckbreaker after Nate DeMarcus accidentally struck Warwick Good. Nate DeMarcus carried the match in terms of in-ring performance. This match was part of the 'March Madness VI' tournament. </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

Author's Note: I don't imagine I will get the show up tomorrow as my Thursday's are usually pretty full; however, I wanted to take a special moment for a little reflection. So, if you will allow me...

This diary started a year ago (on 4/22/20). It was a diary/idea that I had thought about for months. I had my wife make graphics in advance. I knew the company name and location. I knew I was going to be Marv Earnest. I knew I wanted to build a company that, if they were available, featured Conner Threepwood and Nate DeMarcus. We were in the early onset of COVID here in Indiana where I call home and the diary was a planned escape from reality for me. It was also my second nothing-to-something plan (the first being RMW and The Climb). I knew that I wanted to do something in a similar vein. I wanted to do something with narratives. I wanted to tell the story of a man trying to make something of himself and a company trying to carve out a spot for themselves in a competitive space.

In a year, I've ran 172 shows -- 166 have been posted [i've got the last two in March Madness and all of April to go]. There have been numerous narratives as I have attempted to build a world that is engaging and not just the characters. We've been the only diary to go from the launch of the game to now with no breaks, no pauses, no hiatuses. Just a year straight of producing content. I feel like this has been a quality diary, but I also want to say that I am eternally grateful for everyone who has read this, lurked on it, commented on it. Whether it's your favorite diary or not, whether it is a must-read or an occasional read, whether you started at the beginning or jumped on during the journey, I appreciate it. Writing diaries about a booking simulator is a niche hobby, but it is one I enjoy. It helps me when I am burnt out. IT helps me when I need to work through some things and it continues to help me scratch my wrestling itch. It's a game and community that has provided me with some great friendship. It has given me a creative outlet and it has allowed me to work on writing projects in smaller chunks when I'm being taunted by the fields of snow that other projects can present at times. It's gotten me into a rhythm with writing consistently -- which has bled over into other avenues of my life and career pursuits.

So again. Thank you for spending the last year with me on this journey. It's not done yet -- and I hope you don't jump off the train yet.

Congratulations on making it this far, Historian. You've built up some great lore over the journey with CWI/HWA and have developed some great characters (although there are so many of them it's sometimes hard to follow!).

I always love a tag tournament, and March Madness does it best. A bit surprised to see DeMarcus and Good fall in the first round - it could be the end of them I think. Would love to see DeMarcus make another run at the main title, as I feel he's been pushed aside with some of the big signings in the last couple of years.

No Ordinary Men is one of those reads that I can only count on to be consistent and engaging, no matter the show or narrative. Seeing the growth of the characters, the new faces and the faces long gone, is really immersive from the reader's perspective. The storylines, both in the ring and out (Zippy Deverell vs. Mr Grappling, Marv Earnest vs. Canada), are more often than not captivating and worth the time spent in this thread. The more organic stories that develop as time passes on are what keeps me coming back. The relationships, the occasional fight, the workers you built until they were signed away, etc.

You've got a good one here Davey Boy, let's hope we see HPW sell out arenas one day!

Oh and don't forget, give Zippy the world!

“Billy, can I talk to you for a minute?” The deep but soft voice asked. The voice belonged to Sean McFly. The fifty one year old McFly stood like a sentry in the doorway to the small gym that was off the side of the No Ordinary Men Academy of Pro Wrestling. Marv Earnest’s HPW and wrestling school had taken over more square footage in the historic Fountain Square neighborhood. The Atomic Cafe and the Duck Pin Bowling were still there, but HPW’s school ran full time in the theatre now and the old Fountainview Inn had been converted into a gym and small production studio. While television was shot not too far away at the Center Stage of Studio 65, this was still home. Marv’s office and home was across the street in a converted storefront with an above-store apartment. This space served as the spot where the big shows were held as well as a spot for training and for the wrestlers to work out, free of charge, when they were in town for tapings or for those that had moved to town to be closer to their action.

McFly didn’t live in Indianapolis, but he came to town for a couple of days before and after each block set of tapings to help out. The March Madness tapings had concluded the day before and McFly was due to fly out Calgary the next day but today he was in the doorway to a gym that was empty except for Billy Chases Thunder -- known professionally as Wild Red Stallion (though early on just as Billy Chase). The six foot six inch Billy was deeply engrossed in his squat routine -- he never skipped leg day -- and had airpods in his ears. It took him a minute to even notice the elder statesman of the HPW roster. “Oh, hey Sean. I didn’t see you there.”

“No, I figured. Can I talk to you for a minute?” Sean replied.

The big Lakota nodded his head. “Let me finish this set first.” So Sean leaned against the doorjam as the two hundred and eighty pound Billy Chases Thunder finished his last three reps. He replaced the bar and started to remove the weights. “What’s up?”

“I was walking by and saw you here and figured I’d stop by.” Sean started and Billy nodded his head. Billy was not, by nature, a talkative man. At twenty four years of age, he was known for being reserved. He was highly professional, he had a strict moral code and as such often didn’t associate with a lot of the hodgepodge of characters that make up the wrestling business. Billy didn’t drink. He didn’t smoke. He didn’t even drink caffeine. He didn’t eat fast food or junk. Everything was organic and came directly from the land. He was careful about what he put into his body -- both to keep his body in tip top physical condition but also to live closer to his ancestors. Billy was a proud Lakota -- a member of the Sans Arc (Itázipčho) band of Lakota. The same band of Lakota that had given the world Black Hawk and Circling Bear.

“And I was thinking.” Sean continued, noting the silence that people had come to associate with Billy. “You’re good. Really good for someone your age and I think you could be a break out babyface. I really do. I think you could be a top guy in the sport and I was wondering if you wanted some help to get there.”

Billy registered what Sean was saying but he did not immediately reply. Billy was careful with his words. He was particular with them -- especially when asked a question. It took a long moment for him to formulate his reply. “What kind of help?”

Sean moved further into the gym. “Well, I was thinking that I could work with you some. Now, I’m not saying that I’m the best mind in the business or anything like that and I’m not trying to insult you or anything. I’ve just been to the dance. All the dances really. I think I could help you hit that next level.”

Billy wasn’t insulted. Why would he be insulted? Sean McFly was a veteran. He had been the top non-Stone or DeColt (though he was married to one) in Canada for two decades. Before that, he had been a top star and World Champion for SWF. He’d had another run in the dance until his neck broke. He knew what it took to be a star and Billy at least wanted the chance to be a star. No one gets into wrestling who doesn’t at least, on some level, want to be a star. Billy did not say anything; though, he just nodded.

Sean took the nod to be a tacit agreement. “Awesome. I’ll be here every taping. I agreed to help produce the shows with Rick and Marv and Grace. We can work on some stuff before the tapings start and even in the days just before and just after. Do you live around here?”

Billy shook his head no. He didn’t. He still lived up on the Rez. It was important to him that he didn’t abandon his people or his home. The Rez had always been home and no matter the success he got he wasn’t going to abandon them. Even when he was twice one third of the World Six Man Champions and was traveling all over North America to defend the titles, he still went home to the Rez. He helped his mom with the chores and helped his dad around his autobody shop. He tutored his little cousins and played pickup games of basketball with his siblings and the guys he grew up around. He still took classes on the Rez to improve his Lakota -- he wasn’t fluent yet but he wanted to be. He wanted to keep the language alive.

Sean nodded. “That’s fine. Wasn’t sure how long you’re in town before and after shows.”

“A day or so.”

McFly nodded. That was pretty typical. It all depended on flights or if they were driving. The ones who were flying usually flew out the day after, maybe two days depending on where they were going. Indianapolis had a great airport but some guys stayed behind to film local ad spots. Marvin had started increasing the local presence for HPW. Not just flyers and newspaper adverts but now he had radio ads and local television ads. That was in addition to ads on WrestleWorld and other wrestling websites. McFly appreciated that. Billy was a guy that Marv loved to put in local ads and Sean could see why. He was big and handsome and striking. He turned heads.

“Great. We can work on stuff then too.”

“Okay.” Billy’s response wasn’t cold. It was just straight to the point. When he wasn’t on camera, that’s how he was. He got to the point. He didn’t waste time or mince words. He said what he needed to say.

“We’ll start next month.” Sean added as he started to turn and leave.

“Or now.” Billy said. While he was not an expressive person, he was eager to begin. He wanted to be great, but more importantly, he wanted to learn. He wanted to know the subtle arts that Sean had mastered. The way he could take a beating and just look at the people and develop sympathy. The way Sean could take a bump and make it look so devastating while he really didn’t feel anything. How was Sean fifty one years old and coming off a broken neck but still confident enough that he was taking Tombstones and Backdrop Drivers? Billy wanted to learn these secrets. He wanted to master the art of being a babyface. Of the comeback. Billy had his opening shine stuff down great, but his comeback still needed some work to not be too formulaic. He didn’t want to do the same thing every time but he also wanted to build his comeback around the spots he knew he did really well. He knew McFly could help him with that.

“Sure. Now works.” Sean said with a grin. He saw dollar signs in Billy Chases Thunder. His Wild Red Stallion persona was fantastic. His fire. His strength. His look. It was all money and Sean McFly was going to do everything he could to turn him into money. Into a draw. Not for anything other than to help the business that had given Sean everything. He wanted to give back and this twenty four year old kid from the Lakota Nation could be the future.

The kid known as “Miracle” Mike Dalton adjusted the volume on his TV. He had baseball’s talking heads on in the background as they continued the never-ending debate over who should be favored to win the Series this upcoming season. The season hadn’t even started and teams like the Brewers were already counted out while the Dodgers and the Yankees were the sure fire favorites behind strong pitching and their continued willingness to spend ungodly amounts of money on poaching talent from other clubs. He’d heard it all before, but he still loved it. He looked down at his bowl of cereal and spooned up the last mouthful of Frosted Flakes.

Mike had a busy day in front of him -- at least in his mind. He had to work at his 9-to-5 office crunching numbers for a car rental service that could careless about him except he was an ex jock with an accounting degree who looked good enough in a suit that he could sit in meetings and impress college baseball fanatics. After work, Mike was supposed to go to dinner at his girlfriend’s parents house. Sophia was from an Italian family. 100% Italian. He was the first non Italian anyone in her family had ever even dated and dinner at her parents house meant chicken riggies and red wine and laughter. It was loud -- they were Italian -- after all and there was sure to be at least one mention of Uncle Gio who you could only talk about carefully. He had been connected. Had being the proper word. Gio wasn’t around anymore. Connections had done him in.

After dinner, Mike had to go to the gym. He’d have to work off the riggies and work off the wine and get a sweat in. He’d heard an old man say one time that you should try to sweat every day so Mike did. In his apartment complex gym on the machines or treadmills or with the free weights. He was an accountant now, but he was also a weekend warrior who had just gotten his first break -- getting to spend Monday nights once a month to wrestle on WrestleWorld and most Saturdays at some local Utica establishment.

Mike drained the bowl of milk and got up to drop it in the sink. He looked at the talking heads and then down at his right elbow. The scar there was prominent. If it caught the light just right, it shined. His battle scar of the life he left behind. It is cliche to say that a pro wrestler came to wrestling after their other athletic pursuits ended because of injury but in his case it was true. An errant baseball that caught him in the right elbow did just enough damage that he could know longer throw the ball the one hundred twenty seven feet from homeplate to second base to catch a runner in midsteal. He could get the ball there, sure, but not with any force or velocity and a catcher who was a .255 hitter needed that arm. He didn’t have it anymore. So there went his dreams of being a 15th round pick for the Mets or some other team that needed a catcher. Maybe the Pirates. They always needed a catcher.

That was then. Now, he was pursuing his childhood love of wrestling. It had never been a career he considered. He was supposed to play pro ball, but he’s not. Instead, he sits behind a desk and runs numbers. It’s not the worst life, but it’s not what he imagined. When his arm went out and he knew he’d never play baseball at a level high enough to get where he wanted to go, he threw himself into wrestling training. Sophia had been supportive -- she was always supportive though. She was a great “player’s wife” as he had heard guys talk about it. A woman who didn’t want to be front and center. Who encouraged him, but also kept him grounded. She didn’t take any of his shit and didn’t let him feel sorry for himself.

Wrestling had been slow going for Mike. He was good -- not great -- at the start. He was a natural athlete and he took to the contact portion of it well. He took coaching well, but he had to find himself and the New York scene wasn’t particularly good for that. Hell, the tristate scene wasn’t a great place to break in. The indy’s weren’t great, NYCW was suck in a time warp, PSW wasn’t the product that he wanted and he couldn’t get a break. It took sending his tape out all over the US and Canada for someone to call him. Marv Earnest had been that guy. He called and gave Miracle a chance and wasn’t that Miracle enough?

Marv had told him that he needed a guy with a particular set of skills. A technician. Someone to build up as a new submission expert. Marv had been trying with Reggie Combs but Reggie just wasn’t connecting with the audience. Marv hoped that Mike could. Mike was a solid technician with a good kimura. Marv had the idea of pairing him with Peresphone and seeing if that helps him get over. So far it had worked. Mike was off March because of the tag tournament, but Marv had shared his plans for Mike for the next year if he could get over. Mike was going to get over. He would accept nothing but that. Baseball hadn’t worked. Wrestling would. It would be a…Miracle

Earnest, “Hello and and welcome to another exciting, thrill packed episode of Wrestling Spotlight right here on WrestleWorld! I’m Marv Earnest and I’m joined tonight, as always, by Grace Harper. And tonight, Grace, we present the Elite Eight of the sixth annual March Madness tournament. We have four big matches tonight. Eight teams competing. Four will advance to next week’s Final Four and Finals. I am so excited for tonight's action.”

Harper, ”You and me both Marv. From top to bottom, this is going to be a great show. We have some of the most experienced tag teams in the world competing tonight. With the eight teams competing tonight, we have forty-seven different championship or tournament wins for the duos. That is an incredible amount of success for wrestlers in this tournament, Marv.”

Earnest, “It certainly is. HPW has put together the best collection of tag team talent and we’ve seen that the past two weeks but tonight it goes to a whole new level.”

Harper, ”I can’t wait to find out which four teams are going to advance.”

Earnest, “I can’t either, but before we get to our opening contest, Taylor Gordy is standing by with The Omega Chicks.”

05TFh3q.png

We switch over to the interview set up of the studio where Taylor Gordy is standing with Amy Rhodes and the former Triple Champ, Yvonne Ericks.

TiIkT9w.jpgq32tOPo.jpgjvXMzxL.jpg

Gordy, “A few weeks ago at Hoosier Hysteria, you two were involved in the four team elimination match to unify the HPW Women’s Tag Team Titles with the COTT World Women’s Tag Team Titles. You were unsuccessful that night as the Hermanas de Pestilence ended up walking away with the titles. What is next for you two?”

Ericks, “We were unsuccessful, you’re right, but this thing between us and the Hermanas de Pestilence is far from over. You think I can just let it go? They took Black Diamond out of HPW. Diamond was my friend. They stood in a graveyard that had a gravestone for me on it. These aren’t normal women, Taylor. That’s why I had to call up Amy and get her to come back to HPW to help me. This thing between us -- it won’t be over until it’s really over, you know? Amy and I might have to go to a dark place. A real dark place. But we’re going to do what we have to do to win. To get retribution.”

Yvonne and Amy walked off. It was short and to the point.

Gordy, “It sounds like The Omega Chicks are still focused on the Hermanas de Pestilence and the World Tag Team Titles. Back to you Marv and Grace.”

Earnest, “The Omega Chicks don’t seem like they’re going to let this go anytime soon.”

Harper, ”Would you, Marv? I know I couldn’t. Not after what the Hermanas de Pestilence did to Black Diamond. I don’t know if I’d be able to get over that.”

Earnest, “I don’t know if I’d be able to either. I do know this; though, our first match is up next! The Roughhouse Riders, who upset Death Row in the first round take on The Wolf Pack, who defeated Nate DeMarcus and Warwick Good in their first round match.”

Harper, ”This is a definite clash of styles. The Roughhouse Riders are two big physical men. They like to fight -- as seen against Death Row. They aren’t the most technically polished men on the HPW roster, but they’re two of the biggest and most physical. The Wolf Pack like to work a style very similar to the Dynamite Express. They’re from the same training camp the Express went to -- The Bootcamp -- and they work a very similar style. Will that style allow them to overcome the power and physicality of the Roughhouse Riders?”

Roughhouse Riders versus. The Wolf Pack

As Grace Harper described in the pre match commentary, this was a clash in styles. The Wolf Pack spent the match trying to utilize their hybrid of technical wrestling and quick tags to wear down the Roughhouse Riders. They isolated Victor Crash -- who despite being taller than Jimmy Dillon does give up some weight to his partner. The Wolf Pack worked over the neck and even busted out their old spot of the seated front facelock/second rope knee drop that they used during their initial run in HPW to much success. They weren’t able to keep Crash down though and the big man fired up and fired back and was able to get Dillon in the match and then the size of Dillon was too much. He was able to get the match to a more physical nature and was able to hit the Sit-Down Splash on Sean Noggin.

In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, Roughhouse Riders defeated The Wolf Pack in 8:39 when Jimmy Dillon pinned Sean Noggin with a Sit-Down Splash. This match was part of the 'March Madness VI' tournament.

Earnest, “A big win for the Roughhouse Riders who will now have a trip to the Final Four next week. They are two matches away from winning the March Madness tournament and getting themselves an opportunity for the Tag Team Titles at Circle City Classic in May.”

Harper, ”They’ve definitely earned these two victories. They’ve fought against two teams that work much different styles and they’ve managed to overcome the style differences and experience differential to get two straight victories here. I really like the momentum they have going into next week.”

Earnest, “Before we get to our second match tonight, let’s go to a video letting us see Zap, who is coming to HPW very soon.”

COMING SOON

Earnest, “I’ve said it the past two weeks -- but I’m beyond excited for Zap to be coming to HPW.”

Harper, ”You and me both, Marv.”

Earnest, “Up next, we will see former HPW Tag Team Champions and the original winners of the March Madness tournament, The Rock City Stars take on The Ring Generals.”

Harper, ”This is another great matchup in this tournament of two incredibly experienced teams. Both have two decades of experience together. Both have multiple tag team title reigns. Will The Rock City Stars be able to reclaim their spot at the top of the HPW ladder? Or will The Ring Generals win their first North American tournament and earn themselves a shot at the Tag Titles?

The Rock City Stars versus The Ring Generals w/ Lucinda Lush

The Rock City Stars came out of the gate and were in control for several minutes. The Ring Generals didn’t quite look comfortable until Lucinda Lush tripped up Stan Manna and the Generals were able to seize control of the match. Once they had control, they didn’t let it go and Stan Manna ended up eating a Wheelbarrow Bomb and the Ring Generals were into the next round.

In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, The Ring Generals defeated The Rock City Stars in 5:56 when Dean Waldorf pinned Stan Manna with a Wheelbarrow Bomb. This match was part of the 'March Madness VI' tournament.

Earnest, “The former two-time World Time Tag Team Champions are into the final four.”

Harper, ”They’re going to be very hard to beat. They’ve got the most experience of the teams left. They’ve twice been World Champs. This could be their year.”

Earnest, “It certainly could be, and before we get to our next match, let’s go to Taylor Gordy who is standing by with Urena Forst.”

We cut to the interview section where Taylor Gordy is standing with Urena Frost, as promised.

TiIkT9w.jpgA1qVEOl.jpg

Gordy, “Last week, Talia Neema had some very strong words to say about you. How do you feel knowing the person who was supposed to be your best friend turned their back on you?”

Frost, “I feel about as good as you can imagine. I thought Talia Neema was my sister. My best friend. We’ve known each other most of our lives. We got into the sport together. I’ve never known her to be so bitter. To be so jealous. I thought she was happy here. She’s been wrestling here and in Europe and been incredibly successful and I thought that was enough for her but apparently it wasn’t. Apparently she was jealous of the success I was having. Apparently she was jealous that I had dominated 3C and held their top title for thirteen months. Apparently she didn’t like that she wasn’t there with me and that jealousy has led her down a dark path. I’ll be honest though, I don’t want to fight her. She’s my friend. My best friend. Even with her recent actions, even with her jealousy, I don’t want to fight her.”

Urena adjusts and looks directly into the camera.

Frost, “I’m sorry you’re upset, Talia. I really am. I’m sorry you felt abandoned or left behind. I never wanted you to feel that way. I wanted to give you the chance to succeed without feeling like you were in my shadow or second fiddle to me. You did that. You succeeded here -- you thrived here -- and I’m so proud of you. I’m not going to fight you, Talia. I just can’t.”

Urena walks off leaving Taylor Gordy standing there.

Gordy, “Back to you Marv and Grace.”

Earnest, “It’s not often you see someone say they don’t want to fight someone.”

Harper, ”Well why would you want to fight your best friend? I understand where Urena Frost is coming from.”

Earnest, “I guess I can too, but we do have a fight coming up, between The Manifesto and Rich and Famous!”

Harper, ”Another interesting matchup. The Manifesto are a relatively young team still who have yet to really achieve anything outside of some wins. I don’t mean that as an insult -- just in the four years they’ve been professionals they haven’t won any championships. Rich And Famous on the other hand are incredibly experienced. This is experience against size. Let’s find out which prevails.”

The Manifesto versus Rich And Famous

These two teams had plenty of time in this contest and they delivered. Rich And Famou were the generals in this match and led the Manifesto through a very good match. It was a back and forth affair with Rich and Famous controlling the match but then The Manifesto fighting back and their power and athleticism allowing them to keep from getting into too much trouble. The turning point of the match was when Jake Idol came off the top rope for a Crossbody and Bobby Marks caught him and slammed him down to the mat. That allowed the Manifesto to seize control and end up hitting The Credential and got the biggest win of their young career.

In a bout that had great heat and good wrestling, The Manifesto defeated Rich And Famous in 9:54 when Bobby Marks pinned Jake Idol with The Credential. This match was part of the 'March Madness VI' tournament.

Earnest, “The Manifesto with the huge upset tonight. They just upset Rich And Famous and are into the Final Four. They’ll be facing the winners of the main event tonight. The Final Four is shaping up to be an incredible show.”

Harper, ”And that’s next week!”

Earnest, “And before we get to our main event, Taylor Gordy is standing by with Women’s Champion Morgan Stryker.”

Women’s Champion Morgan Stryker does not look very happy.

TiIkT9w.jpgcFN1npk.jpg

Before Taylor Gordy can even say anything, Morgan Stryker starts right in.

Stryker, “Lucy. You have the audacity. The gaul… To come out here in front of cameras that air this program all over the United States and Canada and call me a coward? I’ve never been a coward. Not a day in my life. I’ve never run from anything. I’ve never backed down from anything. I look everyone in the eye and I fight every challenger. To call me a coward...I’ve never been more insulted. You’re going to get another match with me Lucy. At Circle City Classic in May. I’m giving you ample time to prepare. No excuses. No exceptions. I’ve even asked for there to be no countouts. No way for you to feel like you’ve been cheated out. I’m going to beat you from pillar to post, Lucy. You’re going to regret everything you’ve said. You’re going to regret opening that mouth of yours. I promise you.”

The Champion walks off.

Gordy, “Strong words from our champion. Back to you Marv and Grace.”

Earnest, “Well I love our main event that is up next. Thunder & Lightning against The Dynamite Express in our last match of the Elite Eight.”

Harper, ”This should be a great match. These two teams know each other very well. They’ve wrestled in Canada several times and are split evenly between them. Neither has an advantage going into this. This should be an evenly matched, ultra competitive contest.”

Thunder & Lightning versus The Dynamite Express

Once again, Grace Harper was right. These two teams almost went to the time limit in their match. It was a back and forth contest with each team controlling the match for a few minutes at a time before the other found a way to seize control. Thunder & Lightning were clearly wrestling with a chip on their shoulder in this match -- they haven’t gotten over not being resigned by the CWA while the Dynamite Express were wrestling like they wanted one more chance at the Tag Team Titles they lost to the Texas Express. The finish came when Cam Jones hit Lightning Lomas -- who was not the legal man -- and got him to come into the ring illegally. Bret Graveson stopped Lightning and it gave Syd the opportunity to come into the ring behind Graveson’s back. He reached into his tights and pulled something out that he socked Jason Thunder with and allowed Cam to make the pin and they stole the victory.

In a superb match, The Dynamite Express defeated Thunder & Lightning in 14:20 when Cam Jones pinned Jason Thunder by using underhanded tactics. This match was part of the 'March Madness VI' tournament.
