2000 Historical Mod: The Millennium Bug

Recommended Posts

January 2000 is the dawn of a new Millennium for the wrestling world and while the world may not be ending, the wrestling war in North America has cooled down. For America, the big three of ECW, WCW and WWF have been locked into a battle for the future of the scene and while WCW would put up a good fight, it was firmly locked out of competing for the number one spot with numerous bad decisions that have taken a toll on the momentum of their biggest stars.

ECWTNN-p14-e1567516055763.jpg

In ECW:

-The company finally signed that national tv deal in 1999 to grow from, but issues have risen between TNN and ECW with TNN not enjoying the content from the company despite pulling the best ratings the network has seen.

-Pay issues and bigger companies swooping in have taken the toll on the ECW roster and left owner, Paul Heyman to try and build up a new batch of stars while also making sure to keep to what has made ECW successful.

-Money is a big factor in the future of ECW and many doubt the viability of the promotion longterm if Heyman can't seem to even pay stars on time.

In WCW:

-Head Booker, Vince Russo would take over in 1999 and has brought his brand of booking to the company, which has not been received well by the wrestlers and the WCW fans.

-WCW has dropped from the position it was in a few years ago and the promotion looks to be struggling with a locker room out for their own interest and losing younger wrestlers in the shuffle.

-The biggest lose to WCW has come in the absences of Hogan, Sting and Goldberg, three of the biggest WCW stars who will be out for a bit, forcing WCW to try and hang on with the stars they have and use some of the midcard talent to pass by.

-A new version of the nWo has formed in the form of nWo 2000, as WCW looks to the old dog to perform some last tricks to pull WCW back into the fight.

-Madusa holds the WCW Crusierweight title and it seems to be the real nail in the coffin of the cruiserweight division.

-For WCW to truly make a comeback, it will have to strike a balance between the stars of yesterday and the stars of tomorrow.

In WWF:

-The Attitude Era has been a huge success for the WWF and allowed it to become the global number 1 in all of wrestling as the rest of the world looks to catch up.

-A big worry for the WWF has been the absence of its biggest star and the face of pro wrestling, “Stone Cold' Steve Austin sits on the shelf for a couple of months.

-Without him, it seems to be a uphill battle to keep that number 1 spot, but The Rock has filled in for Austin as the new face of the company while Austin is out.

-Another missing star is The Undertaker who is gone for a few months as well and reportedly coming back with a new gimmick.

-Chris Jericho was a steal from WCW and since coming to WWF, he has lit a match under the company with a fantastic promo with The Rock, but since then he has lounged in the midcard and currently involved with something of cooling off feud with Chyna.

-Triple H and Stephanie McMahon have formed, The McMahon-Helmsley alliance which has become the primary heel stable in the company and have dominated WWF television.

-The Big Show holds the WWF Championship, but it has mostly been a dud of a reign thus far and he has before a secondary attraction to the star power of Triple H, Mankind and The Rock.

EX-0-TeWsAAv7Q_.jpg

-The Lucha Libre scene has been hit by declining attendances and many young and established stars being taken in by the bright lights and war occurring in The United States.

For Mexico

-CMLL continues to run their traditional style, relying on the older stars to draw their biggest shows while younger stars help fill out the midcard.

-Francisco has show little in way of changing what CMLL has always stood for and his approach has led to both success and failure for the promotion.

-AAA continues to balance the star power of their young and old stars while also providing a more experimental approach to Lucha Libre that has made them big money and created big, young stars.

For Japan:

-MMA has become booming business for the country, supplanting the previous big sport called wrestling.

-NJPW continues to do big shows that regularly sell out the Tokyo Dome and have kept to their traditional style even as they sign MMA fighters to help populate the roster.

-Rumor has it that Inoki looks to legitimize the product and take advantage of the boom that MMA has received in MMA.

-AJPW has maintained its position as the firm number 2 in Japan with no signs of changing from its tradition.

-The company is no longer spearheaded by Giant Baba as his widow now controls the business side of the company with Mitsuhara Misawa doing the booking, but rumors are there of tension between the two parties.

-The Joshi scene has taken blows in popularity as AJW suffered a loss of a TV deal they later recovered and exodus of talent to help buff the roster of GAEA.

-Whether the scene has a bright future ahead of it, comes down purely to the management of the Joshi promotions.

-FMW has embraced the style of Sports Entertainment with its deal with Direct TV, but the ownership of Shoichi Arai is sure to cause more problems for the company down the road.

Beta Version 1.0 ETA: Around 1000 workers, no real date, but that is the target. I will then tweak this data by adding a few more wrestlers, title lineages, etc.

Beta Version 2.0 ETA: Around 1500 workers and then I will release small updates to this version by adding more and more small details to the data.

Beta Version 3.0 ETA: Around 2000 workers and I will release small updates to this version by adding more and more smaller details. This will probaly be the actual final version of the mod, still debating on making that final version 4.0, but thats way off in the future.

I've partnered up with JoMo for this American section of the mod who has provided extensive help on the American Indy scene at this time.

JoMo also has an amazing Real World Events Graphics - The Ultimate Pack that I would highly recommend to download for this mod in order to make it just that more realistic. http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=544521

I don't have any venues in the game yet, but I am using d12345's Locations Extended Mod for locations in order to have places where both the AI and the human can book. http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=547157&highlight=d12345

The Broadcasters are from Asaemon's broadcaster mod, just did some tweaking on certain broadcasters in order to bring the TV ratings in line. https://bethebooker.net/thread/15/asaemons-broadcaster-database

The Othertvshows are used from Ropacm's OtherTVShows database, which is a great resource to add on some realism and bring the TV ratings around for the companies. http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=546827

The NGO Picture pack should be compatible with this, I have tried the naming and such of people to match it and I implore you to use it, since it is a great picture pack for any historical mod. All credit to them for the pictures for this. https://tewdb.com/img572.htm

As well as working with iDOL's stable logos. http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=545705

And last, but not least, Gendai for permission for Moves, Move Sets, Workers, Alter Egos.

Most of the data for this is a work in progress, no I wouldn't take much of it as a final update or anything, looking to buff America up to like 600 people and with yet to debut people, up to like 1000. So again, if you would like a chance to help add/modify this database as part of the process, this would be the chance.

<p>Looking forward to this mod being released. Always enjoyed playing the old New Millennium Mod from 2013, as WCW and trying the turn the tide of the war back towards them.</p><p> </p><p>

Did convert that mod to 2016 and also tried to convert it to 2020 but just seem to get runtime errors so will be playing this went the mod is ready for a release.</p>

Phase 1 Hype Beta updates

Just wanted to update everyone on progress for this.

Appreciate all the messages and positive words( I messed up on the hype portion, but I hope hope hope to get this Phase 1 beta out maybe a week or so after TEW 2020 officially releases).

Glad to announce that I've partnered up with JoMo for this mod who has provided extensive help on the American Indy scene at this time as well as his excellent events picture pack.

Very thankful to Asaemon for allowing us permission to use his broadcasters Mod, which will be very very helpful for this.

Ngo's Picture pack should be compatible with this and I implore you to use it, since it is a great picture pack for any historical mod. All credit to them for the pictures for this.

And last, but not least, Gendai for permission for Moves, Move Sets, Workers, Alter Egos.

Really curious about this amazing looking mod! Any updates :)

Oh yeah, more than likely I should have the first phase beta out a week or so after release dates. Right now im bumping up workers on the indy scene as well as supplying employment histories, so after the worker count hits around 380-400 for the US region, I will probably drop that beta

Great to hear! Are you including a lot of future workers in the data that we see today?

This is a massive undertaking and one that demands a lot of care and attention. The 2000s were the period that broke the WCW and made the WWF into the titan it is today. Despite all this it is vital to not let this distract you from the fact that in 1998 The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell in the Cell, and he plummeted 16 feet through the announcers table.

Short watcher

Another quick update, probably the second to last one before the first phase 1 beta release.

Doing a short watcher(Plus lining up worker names with the nGo pack/Adding bios/Employment history) and here are the results so far.

iPINGJX.png

Everything is going pretty well so far, once the bios/employment histories are done, all that is left is venues/locations which I'm not too bothered about now in these early stages as they require their own set of testing. The worker count is around 360 I believe, with only The United States accessible as a region for now and around 8 companies and 10 upcoming workers in the year 2000. Going to add some more, but I wanted to focus on important players year by year so people like Brock, Randy, Shelton, etc.

All in All I would say expect this to be updated with one more update from a newer watcher game going the full year and then after that the actual Phase 1 Beta release, I'd put that timeframe between next week Friday( May 22) and the Friday after that( May 29) which is a broad time frame, but something that my best guest.

Thank you all again for the interest and comments, I'll get to powering on the employment and bios.

Wanted to update everyone on the status of this mod thus far.

Things have been progressing rather quickly for me in this stage of the first phase and I think I'm pretty secure with having a beta come out on the 28th.

So I'd add in I'd love feedback from those who play into it what the scene needs for this and for that I would ask these questions as you play:

Do be aware, that the only regions available for this part of the beta will be the U.S.A and Canada. It includes 13 companies(1 yet to debut that won't debut for some reason)and only one of them being based in Canada and about 400 workers right now.I have no intentions of opening anything else up right now until the other stages of this mod nor workers that won't have a big impact on the scene right now(So people like Vader, Scorpio, Ultimo, etc. are not in my plans to add to this phase since they have obligations in Japan). This will not be a long term play booking simulation as of now, but you could feasibly do a year or two with this imo when I did watchers.

Here are some things I would love some feedback on for the beta:

1. Company Sizes: Do you feel they are fairly sized for this time period/Do you feel popularity across regions are done correctly?

2. Contracts: I'm trying to simulate things like The Radicalz walking out and budget cuts by WCW, so a few workers have their contracts ending this month/mid 2000 or do you feel The Radicalz could be accomplished better by simply adding starting morale to all 4/to simulate pay issues for Awesome in ECW?

3. Typos in writing for everything: I make a fair few typos and have done some work fixing them up here and there.

4. Looking for more data on the independent companies for workers and such: If you would know anymore info on the birth dates/skills/debuts/history for people in OVW, HWA, WWC etc. Let me know.

5. Workers to add to the free agent pool/Companies to add: I'm looking for legends you think would be great additions to the free agent pool(Mostly since I plan on tying all title histories to people) and companies to add to the NWA that are based in America/Canada would be perfect or stand alone companies would be just as perfect.

That just about completes it for me, any other things that are messed up, would also be perfect to add. I'm looking to stamp some stuff out and make sure some things are well rounded as I prepare to add more to the data over time and from other regions.

So I wouldn't really call this the first phase BETA, think of it as a alpha of a beta that is being worked on. So if you want to be part of the process of making the American/Canadian region pop, here is your chance or you could also play it for fun to rebook certain moments, if you would like. So with that, I'll go to the assets used and such.

I've partnered up with JoMo for this American section of the mod who has provided extensive help on the American Indy scene at this time.

The Othertvshows are used from Ropacm's OtherTVShows database, which is a great resource to add on some realism and bring the TV ratings around for the companies.

The NGO Picture pack should be compatible with this, I have tried the naming and such of people to match it and I implore you to use it, since it is a great picture pack for any historical mod. All credit to them for the pictures for this.
