Damn it, work took over this week and I missed the prediction. It was another good show though and I'm getting into the rhythm of the stories [as i'm newish to the diary]-- I have to say that the running over of Swoop by Spiffy seems off to me! Like, the motivation and Swoop's reaction seemed to downplay it which makes me think there is something more to it? [Also, isn't it illegal?!].

That's right Juliet Balconi, Foxxy definitely has the ability to be in bigger wrestling matches and hold her own with the guys but Juliet has potential and great entertainment skills which are obviously king in RAW.

 

I completely see where you're coming from with the running over. If I'm honest a little part of it was needing an excuse to get Swoop talking to the priest again, and with everything ramping up to episode 40 perhaps it felt a little shoehorned in and not given enough time to be a deal in of itself. That said, the reaction (or lack of it) is also intentional but for something coming up, so without going into too much details, don't worry that part of the storyline isn't completely over.

 

As for the legality of it, I'm no Australian law expert and who knows what funky stuff they allow down under... but I imagine it was pretty illegal yes! Early on in the diary when Swoop was kidnapped the police actually did come in to investigate but all the wrestlers kept to the 'wrestling code', Swoop wouldn't press any charges, and they settled it in house. So there is a precedent set. My thinking is basically so much wacky and illegal stuff has happened over the years that the police barely bother with it anymore!

 

 

 

Current prediction scores below but just a heads up that I'm temporarily putting a hold on people cashing them in. This is just because in between Episode 40 and 41 I'm changing a lot of people's appearance and if I'm honest it will be a shame to spend a lot of time on someone if it then gets changed before I get a chance to debut the new look. That said as soon as episode 41 is posted you're welcome to cash them in on anything you like.

 

Also I have quite an interesting idea for a second way to use them. Some time will pass in game and for RAW in between episode 40 and 41. My thinking is to allow you to use points up to help influence some of the details. But I'll flesh out the idea and post that after episode 40, they'll also be a little something extra to give everyone the chance to earn some bonus points. Predictions for Episode 40 will be up asap.

You're both completely right and it's exactly what Swoop meant by 'the delicate balance has shifted'. I think one of the biggest unwritten rules of wrestling booking is that if you have a face/heel divide the forces need to be roughly balanced. Season Two of the diary all came about from one premise: What happens if that balance is completely taken away?

 

In other media I'd say not only does this imbalance happen but it's the norm. Whether it's something like Star Wars/Lord of the Rings or even say a horror film in general the bad side always seems more powerful. I think in wrestling it's often easier to make a heel likeable and there's nothing less likeable than someone acting like an underdog when in reality they simply aren't. I'm hoping that by making the faces truly be the underdogs it will help endear them to the readers.

 

How the faces react to this imbalance will hopefully be interesting... I imagine it will be a mixture of three things;

 

1: As Willsky said elevating the people they already have. (They might struggle to do this as it's pretty slim pickings but maybe someone will surprise everyone and really prove themselves)

2: Trying to sway some bad guys to their cause. (This won't be easy as anyone directly opposing Swoop will have a tough time)

3: Looking elsewhere for new people to help them. (This is obviously TEW dependent but we have plenty of money and so I'm willing to bid high for the right person)

 

 

I'm really looking forward to starting the next season as this imbalance won't just mean the heels win more, or hold more titles but it completely changes the show in ways which I think will be quite unique. At the moment I'm mostly working on improving the presentation and a bunch of the wrestler pics but hopefully the break isn't too long. There's some stuff I'll be doing in between seasons to use prediction points up which I'll hopefully get out this week.

 

 

Edit: And a side note now as I've reached Episode 40/End of a season a quick note of appreciation for anyone still following and especially my small handful of regulars! I'm enjoying the fact that I can experiment with stuff (ending a season finale on a song being a prime example!) and in general just write what I want without worrying how it will go down. Writing like that will definitely mean it's not for some people (or even the people that do read won't like all of it) but it's certainly enjoyable this way so it's trade off I'm happy with. So thank you!

Haven't made the last couple of predictions but I have been able to finally catch up. It isn't too surprising on the Swoop turn, but the alliance with Main Event Mafia is huge. As people have already said it really stacks the heels on the roster.

I love the idea of them just running absolute riot with small faction battles between them with the Face guys just trying to eek out a way of life in the company until a new hero eventually rallies to the challenge is a great concept. Be it an entirely new talent, or someone who gets slowly built up during what could be labelled as the dark times of RAW, before finally getting their breakout moment.

That's why you're able to believe Swoop would trade friendships for the title, and let's face it, he became a heel the moment he started completing the trials [burning down someone's home...!]. However, you can get away with giving the title away in RAW because its a soap opera, I just think I need to better understand Jackson's quest for power [does he want to own RAW...?]. </p><p> </p><p>

Great to see your comments, I appreciate you've been along for a lot of the ride now! It will certainly be a dark time for RAW and the faces having to settle with 'just trying to eek out a way of life' is exactly the tone going forward. Although of course some faces will fight for more than that and as you say I'm sure somebody will rise to the challenge.

Thanks for the comments. Glad the presentation went down well. I'm working on improving the format going forward although if I'm honest the in game shots will be used pretty sparingly as it takes me ages! I wouldn't worry about it your presentation, most the best diaries on the boards at the moment (including your QAW) use that style, and for good reason!

 

I think people's comments about the handing over the title and MJ in general have told me one key thing. I 100% don't regret the decision, it's very integral to the key storyline going forward and I do think I dropped a few little hints and signs of what might have motivated him. That said I might have failed to flesh out MJ and his thinking enough for such a big moment, maybe treating him too much as a pawn in Swoop's story to say he's one of my top acts.

 

I have no problem with people thinking 'hmm would MJ actually do that?' because a) it was designed to be shocking and b) there's plenty of time going forward to delve deeper into his motivations but yes perhaps I should have focused on him a bit more in the run up to the surprise.

 

One idea I'm working through is having each episode going forward being focused on fleshing out 1 character or perhaps team at a time. So although other stuff will go on, each episode will have a general focus on one person. I'm trying to think of examples in TV but I remember LOST doing that, Walking Dead does too sometimes. I like the idea of trying that for wrestling. So if I go ahead with this I definitely have to mark Maurice Jackson as a high priority to give an episode to.

 

It's great to hear some interest in the next season! I'm hoping later today or at least definitely this weekend to post a way to earn and spend some predictions points.

This is exciting. Just the kind of thing I want to spend my points on. I did both the quiz and the survey which bag me another 3 points (2 for taking part, 1 for my quiz score), which puts me on 10 which is, as it turns out, all the points needed to create a new character.

 

As long as it doesn't muck up all your plans, I'd like to create a badass babyface (like Moxley) to go up against the big heel group as I feel a new star could be made that way. So this isn't Season Two. It's just a dumb little thing I had 80% done months ago and finally thought I'd get round to finishing.

 

For Season Two there's a whole new look (I think much improved) but I spent too long working on it that by the time it got round to writing I was burnt out. But it might be coming soon, not fully decided if I'm honest!

 

In the meanwhile, this is a small episode in between. Kian and Will are two of the brightest starts for the future of the diary (and save game) so I liked the idea of giving them their own little thing. Maybe I had just watched Harry Potter when I wrote it months ago, who knows!

Just realised most of the links in the diary are down, looks like a problem with docdroid. Don't know if this is something you've experienced Willsky?

 

Either way I do still have all the pdfs somewhere, so I suppose one plus of using this format is it should be easy enough to reupload. Episode 1 is ready to post so will just sort these links out then can post. Also not sold on whether I should run predictions or not for this.
