TopRopeElbow.com Presents, MAW Fan Festival 2020 Card

While there isn’t much to report from Mid Atlantic Wrestling at the moment, the company have released their Fan Festival 2020 card. Barnaby & Rudge answered the challenge put forward by The Past Masters last month, while Bradley Blaze’s open challenge posted on the Mid Atlantic Wrestling twitter account was answered by Bull Wrecker from FCW. Trix Triumph who took offence to losing to a debuting TCW talent last month has challenged any other TCW developmental prospect to try their luck against him, while two MAW veterans are going one-on-one to see who can carry some momentum into the second half of the year. AND, a surprise appearance from a wrestling legend has been announced for the show, however all involved are remaining tight-lipped so as to maintain shock value.

Opening Match</p><p>

Singles Match</p><p>

15-Minute Time Limit</p><p> </p><p>

Copperhead vs <strong>Jonah Pilgrim</strong></p><p>

I really am not a big fan of Copperhead and I think there is more mileage in Jonah Pilgrim.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Joey Fili</strong> vs Trix Triumph</p><p>

I like Trix and I know you seem to like him, but I also think Joey Fili could be a big star and with him being a TCW Developmental guy, narratively I think they would want to see him start to get a bit of a push.</p><p> </p><p>

I am a fan of everyone but Burnett in this match (not that I dislike Burnett, they're just new!) I think the heels get the win to get The Greatness ready to challenge for the tag straps.</p><p> </p><p>

Easy call here, I think. No way is Wrecker taking the strap of Blaze. Especially when he's not a full time member of the roster.</p><p> </p><p>

Bonus Prediction: Who is the "wrestling legend" appearing on the show"?: I'm going to say The Natural.</p>

<em>I don't see Jonah winning much when he's not teaming with The Architect</em></p><p> </p><p>

<p><strong>Fab Festival 2020</strong></p><p>

Just want to preface this by saying how much I'm enjoying the diary; the fact that I'm finding it progressively harder to pick is a testament to your original story telling</p><p> </p><p>

Opening Match: Copperhead vs <strong>Jonah Pilgrim</strong></p><p>

<em>Tough one to call, I think Copperhead is a little directionless, whereas Jonah has The Scheme on his side, so I'm gonna plump (pun intended) for Pudgy Pilgrim</em></p><p> </p><p>

Singles Match: Joe Fili vs <strong>Trix Triumph</strong></p><p>

<em>Joe Man Reigns is rooted to the bottom of the card , whilst Trix could possibly have something in him with a little momentum behind him</em></p><p> </p><p>

8 Man Tag: <strong>DM&G & Heartbreak Express</strong> vs Heels</p><p>

<em>I know you need to build some heel challengers, but you've got the SKC on the horizon, and I think it weakens the tag division too much to have the face team lose here.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Singles Match: <strong>Ho Tinh</strong> vs Local Talent</p><p>

<em>Jobbedy Job Job</em></p><p> </p><p>

Tag Match: Barnaby & Rudge vs <strong>The Past Masters</strong></p><p>

<em>It seems everyone on this forum loves the past masters and I think you do too. Win for them here</em></p><p> </p><p>

Championship Match: Bull Wrecker vs <strong>Bradley Blaze</strong></p><p>

<em>I don't think Blaze will hold the gold forever, but I don't see him dropping it to an FCW import on his first night, even if Bull is here for more than one event</em></p><p> </p><p>

Bonus Prediction: Wrestling Legend Jim Force</p>

TopRopeElbow.com Quarterly Report: Q2 2020

A relatively quiet three months as far as wrestling has concerned, with very little happening from April to June that looks like it will severely change the landscape, let’s have a look at all that’s gone down in Q2 of 2020.

USPW saw a mass influx of talent and a few high profile exits, but they look like they will remain comfortably in the number 1 spot in company rankings. Titan, Daryl Devine and Roderick Remus all joined from Total Championship Wrestling, Rogue and Randy Bumfhole came in from SWF and the company made another signing from Mexico as Rock God Alvarez has joined from EILL. This quarter also saw USPW say goodbye to Enygma, Rajah and The Force. While Enygma and The Force may not be the wrestlers they used to be at this stage of their careers, their name value alone could provide a solid boost to any mid-level companies looking to get butts in seats while noted bench warmer Rajah now finds himself without a place to wrestle although he wasn’t doing too much of that in USPW to begin with. As far as the internal landscape of the company goes, Bulldozer Brandon Smith won the USPW National title while Tiffany Jade won the USPW Women’s title.

SWF saw two new faces come in to the company as Human Arsenal joined from TCW, and Eric Tyler signed on from PSW. There were also two departures as Brett Biggins and Squeeky McClean left the roster. This frees up Brett to join his brother in TCW, which may well happen given the spate of talent departures the company has suffered over the first six months of the year. Things are not all well in the Eisen Empire however, as SWF have tumbled down the company rankings to to Medium size, after a series of poor performances when compared to USPW. This is being reflected in the on-screen product as the thrown together tandem of Bear Bekowski and Joey Morgan won the SWF World Tag Team titles, While perennial midcarder Mainstream Hernandez won the SWF North American title.

TCW have seen big names leave over the first half of the year with most going to USPW and some to SWF, the company have done little to restock after such large losses to the roster. Six dojo graduates were signed on to TCW this year, with three of them going to Mid Atlantic Wrestling. On top of this Sammy Bach left the company having failed to agree terms on a contract extension. Two titles changed hands in the company during the period as Maverick won the TCW Television title and Jeremie Courney and Matt Hocking won the TCW World Tag Team titles.

EILL released a pack of talent this quarter as Ultimate Phoenix, Mexican Beast, El Demonio, Major Junta, The Gatekeeper, Referee Ramirez, Lucía and Major Junta all left the company. The name of Major Junta will shock some people as the 27-year-old looked set to be a midcard stalwart for the company for the next decade. Two signings have come into the company, those being former head official of OLLIE Domingo Castillo and legendary road agent Manuel Prieto. It was a busy three months for EILL on-screen as all four championships changed hands during the period as, Malvado won the Campeonato de México EILL title, Hombre De La Energía won the Campeonato del Mundo EILL title, Boom Boom Angel won the Campeonatos de Parejas EILL titles, and Boom Boom Angel and El Heroe Mexicano won the Campeonatos de Tríos EILL titles.

From Canada there was very little to report as veteran ring presence Nina Cacace left the company following contract expiry, while youngster Erin Grey joined from ACPW.

BHOTWG continued their aggressive signing of Japanese independent talent as Necromancer, Mabuchi Furusawa, Tanyu Toshusai, Shogun Watoga, Kiyotaka, and Orange Tsuchie all joined the company. A number of workers left during the period also, the list includes Toshiharu Hyobanshi, Kiminobu Kiroki and Namboku Makuda. Other than that both Teruki Nakayama and Aio Bandai left to go on excursion in UEW.

Very little to report from PGHW, the only news is that Satory Awatari, Matt Blackburn and Nobuyo Hikichi joined TCW on excursion.

In Britain Jonathan Faust, Sifu and Smiling John Smithie left the company at the end of their contracts. Many are expecting 21CW to begin raiding the independent scene of Britain and Ireland in the coming months in order to bolster their midcard and sign potential future world champions. Other than that, Dynamite Duo (Philip Cooper & Andrew Lee) won the Cornell Cup, Philip Cooper won the 21CW World title, and Leigh Burton won the 21CW United Kingdom title.

A quiet quarter in Australia as Autumn Gleeson left RAW following contract expiry although this was likely due to her acting pursuits, and Maurice Jackson and Nathan McKenzie won the RAW Tag Team titles.

Big news comes from the Confederation Of The Territories as they announced three new titles will be coming into being in July. The list includes a Trios title, a Women’s title and a World Junior Heavyweight Championship. Reports suggest a number of other titles could be on the way although there is no guarantee on whether or not that is true.

In other news, we are sad to announce the passing of Tadakuni Toshusai, Yodo Nakane and Stunner Okazawaya.

In retirement news, Tim Westybrook, Eve Grunge, Ellie May Walton, Toshinobu Taku and Jana Marie Bowen called time on their in-ring careers. On top of that: Silver Shark, Danger Kumasaka, Man Mountain Cahill, Harrison Hash, Luis Montero and Everest all announced that they are leaving the wrestling industry behind for good.

Finally in injury news the list of wrestlers who have suffered injuries with expected recovery times of at least a year includes: Damain Dastardly, Torch Nakazawa, Edward Cornell (Who many were pinging for Wrestler of the Year accolades), Bloodsport, Anarchist, Masao Tsubouchi, and Yu Hashimoto.

<p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong>TopRopeElbow.com Present the Sam Keith Classic X Entrants</strong></span></span></p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:12px;">Number 1</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="font-size:12px;">

</span></strong><img alt="0QIQaWz.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/0QIQaWz.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="eP5UPJS.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/eP5UPJS.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

Representing IPW in this year’s tournament is the team of Ash Barnaby and Zach Rudge. The duo made their Mid Atlantic Wrestling debut recently in a losing effort to The Past Masters and will surely be looking to right their course. The odds are in their favour as five of the previous nine tournament winners have come from without MAW, could Barnaby & Rudge make it six from ten? There’s only one way to find out.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:12px;">Number 2</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="font-size:12px;">

</span></strong><img alt="54PX4yl.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/54PX4yl.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="SLAlqSt.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/SLAlqSt.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

The second team announced to enter the tournament are MAW’s own, The Wolf Pack. The Last Survivor of the Boot Camp and the Kiwi Krusher have been putting in strong performances throughout the year and many are expecting a strong showing from them here. The have faltered somewhat as a recent title match loss to DeMarcus & Gray may have hurt their confidence and momentum, but the viciousness and tenacity of The Wolf Pack cannot be understated.</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="font-size:12px;"><strong>Number 3</strong></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong>

</strong></span><img alt="dIN9Hsc.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/dIN9Hsc.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="UfvEqMG.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/UfvEqMG.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

The Greatness have had an up-and-down year in Mid Atlantic Wrestling as the TCW duo have gone 50/50 in their matches together this year with two wins and two losses. The former tag team champions haven’t been able to pick up a head of steam this year, and while few would deny the greatness of The Greatness, it is clear that they are struggling for momentum as a duo. There may tension between the two as Seth Whitehead’s only losses this year have come alongside Robbinfield. Could a breakup be in their future?</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="font-size:12px;"><strong>Number 4</strong></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong>

</strong></span><img alt="hgbDUGV.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/hgbDUGV.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="E8rmT00.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/E8rmT00.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

The second team announced as coming from outside MAW, are not even a part of the Confederation, as Acid II and Stuntman, who was introduced on the MAW website as Simon Ice, collectively known as Devil May Care will be joining this year’s Sam Keith Classic. This could hint at a working relationship of some kind between MAW and Pittsburgh Steel Wrestling, or perhaps even PSW joining the Confederation. The high flying duo will be looking to make a splash in what could be the making of them on the national wrestling scene.</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="font-size:12px;"><strong>Number 5</strong></span></p><p>

<img alt="kcT3xRv.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/kcT3xRv.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="AAnBpVr.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/AAnBpVr.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

Former two time Mid Atlantic Tag Team champions The Heartbreak Express will be entering the tournament once again, making this their fifth successive Sam Keith Classic. Tournament glory has always evaded them, but a 2019 turn to the side of good and away from their original obnoxious personas may be what gives them the edge to finally win the prestigious trophy.</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="font-size:12px;"><strong>Number 6</strong></span></p><p>

<img alt="qahJC9w.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/qahJC9w.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="rk0R24t.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/rk0R24t.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

Hailing from New York City, Brooklyn’s Finest duo of Freedom Eagle and Hawkeye Calhoun will be looking to take the trophy back to Larry Vessey’s promotion for the first time. The duo are yet to win a match together in 2020 and even had a well-received singles match as opponents earlier this year. Are the odds against them? Or were the team biding their time for the perfect opportunity to show the world exactly what they can do?</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="font-size:12px;"><strong>Number 7</strong></span></p><p>

<img alt="DQQAADa.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/DQQAADa.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="C6VIGbi.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/C6VIGbi.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

The final team entering from the Confederation are The Vikings. Ragnar and Uhtred will be representing CILL and looking to add to their impressive tally of achievements, including four runs as CILL Tag Team champions. Their last reign ended as recently as May of this year so the two berserkers are likely more than ready to win the tournament and move on to challenging for the COTT Tag Team titles.</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="font-size:12px;"><strong>Number 8</strong></span></p><p>

<img alt="h3rOlS4.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/h3rOlS4.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="gYPF5yC.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/gYPF5yC.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

Last, but certainly not least, representing Mid Atlantic Wrestling is The Past Masters. Sandman Winks and The Historian have been going from strength to strength this year, with the former’s Mid Atlantic American championship win the cherry on top of a very convincing first half of 2020. While they may not have the pedigree to be considered favourites to win the tournament, all teams start somewhere and you would be crazy to discount these up-and-comers from the tournament.</p><p>

TopRopeElbow.com report: Sam Keith Classic Bracket and Event Card

The bracket for the tenth Sam Keith Classic tournament has been released on the Mid Atlantic Wrestling twitter and the company website, along with the order of the match card, much like the RCI back in January, the tournament final does not appear to be the main event of the show, possibly a good idea so as to avoid unnecessary pressure on people who have worked two other matches throughout the night.

This will also be interesting to see how many fans MAW can attract to WrestleWorld as this will be the first show aired on the streaming service since the deal was announced earlier in the year.

The Product

CkRqHlE.jpg

“Don’t work hard kid, work smart.” Those were the last words Sam Keith spoke to Trevor Riggs before he graduated from the Mid Atlantic Bootcamp. The man who would become The Architect lived by that advice. It became his mantra. His code of ethics. If something was worth doing, it was worth doing with peak efficiency. This meant Trevor wasn’t the most exciting wrestler, but he protected his body and his opponents’ and he was rewarded with a strong push for his work ethic.

In January of 2020, Trevor Riggs, aka The Architect won the Rip Chord Invitational. He joined an illustrious list. A who’s who of professional wrestling and it made him proud. But there was something empty in Trevor. A vacuum right in the pit of his stomach that he couldn’t fill with just a tournament trophy. Accolades were all well and good, but the lust for championship gold was what drew a man to professional wrestling in the first place. Trevor didn’t get into wrestling to be a sometimes tag team champion. He wanted to be The Guy. So he took his concern to Sam Keith.

The office of Sam Keith, real name Samuel Gauge, was exactly what one would expect from the office of a former wrestler. It was not neat or tidy but Sam always seemed to know where everything was. It had gotten somewhat cleaner since Tamara McFly had started working full-time for the company. Trevor knocked on the door and was beckoned from within. He went in and sat on the chair across the desk from his boss. Sam gave him a wry smile and asked him what the matter was.

“Well Sam, I want to know what the plans are for me going forward. One minute I’m winning the Invitational, the next minute my title match is getting ended with a DQ to further somebody else’s story. Am I getting near the belt this year?”

Sam went back to typing on his old computer and said “That’s a question for Jay, isn’t it?”

“Well that’s the thing Sam,” Trevor said, a hint of annoyance in his voice, “You’re the boss, you know what’s going on and I know you can tell Jay no.”

“So?”

Trevor sat wide-eyed and unable to form words. What had Sam just said to him? He couldn’t understand what was going on, why was the man he idolised so nonchalant in dealing with his concerns?

“So!?” Trevor exclaimed. “So, I’ve been busting my ass here for nearly a decade! I’ve taken every piece of advice you’ve ever given me on board! I read your notes like it’s the damn Bible! And all you have for me is a ‘So’?” Trevor was seething. His red face and half-raised voice betrayed the shock he tried so desperately to hide.

“Then leave.” Sam said, without looking up from his computer.

“Why the hell would I do that Sam!? What is going on here!” Trevor demanded.

Sam finally looked up from his computer and met Trevor’s eyes before continuing. “Trevor, you’ve been here long enough to know that guys move on when they’re done. If you feel like you’re done here, then leave. Believe me, I want you to stay Trev, you’re a great talent and a great man. But if you feel like you’re stagnating you don’t have to stay.”

“And where would I go Sam?”

“You’re choice Trevor, I can’t make that choice for you.” Sam shrugged.

Trevor looked down, dejected. He muttered a low thanks under his breath and got up to leave the office.

“Oh and Trevor?” Sam called out before Trevor left. “I’ve only ever told Jay no once, when he said he didn’t want to book.”

Ooh, great show! You're really making me buy in to The Wolf Pack as dastardly ring generals! Great debut for Simon Ice, shame it made the past masters look a little weak, I hope he stays with the roster to build off of that momentum. Tournaments are notoriously hard to book, so I'm happy with 6/10 :)

<p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Void</strong></p><p>

<img alt="S6XMtek.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/S6XMtek.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Charisma vacuum does not accurately describe Josh Jones. A vacuum suggests that at some point form the dawn to the end of time, that something could feasibly have existed in that space. That given some miracle, some great cosmic shift, that charisma could inhabit Josh Jones. To make this claim would be to lie. Josh Jones was, is, and always will be a boring man. Then, now, forever.</p><p> </p><p>

Josh went to great pains to stop being the human embodiment of the colour beige. He took improv classes, acting classes, dance classes, jujitsu classes, and he even joined a book club in the hope that literary classics would provide some kind of existential eureka moment in which the secrets of being an engaging person were revealed in some kind of blinding flash. None of these things happened.</p><p> </p><p>

Josh worked during the week as a high school P.E. teacher, and somehow he found students sleeping through his classes. Standing. Totally upright and at attention, students’ heads would lol and they would snap to attention as if some kind of spectral entity had invaded their corporeal being.</p><p> </p><p>

Imagine then, that you are the best wrestler in the world – if the world consisted solely of the Baltimore metropolitan area – yet acted so stiff you didn’t get the part of the tree in your middle school production of The Wizard of Oz because you were “too wooden”. This was the conundrum Josh Jones found himself in going into 2020. No big company would ever get behind him, even Mid Atlantic Wrestling treated him as nothing more than a solid hand. He was being used as the measuring stick against which new recruits were tested. Marvin Gallagher was the first to take the test and he was performing well, but Josh couldn’t help but feel he had more to give. He had heard about the altercation in Sam Keith’s office. Telegram, telephone and all that, and that wasn’t how he wanted to go about things. Josh knew his time would come when it came, if it ever came at all.</p><p> </p><p>

He worked at the school in the day, hit the gym in the evening and argued with his housemate, Chuck, about whether MAW would be doing better had Rip Chord not retired. Josh says no, Chuck says yes, they both agree that things could have been much worse if Rip had sold up to the Eisens like the rumours said at the time. It was a quiet life, was the life of Josh Jones. A life he enjoyed. A life he didn’t want to give up because he didn’t have lofty goals or high aspirations. But increasingly was becoming a life he thought about in hindsight. Could he have been more? At thirty-two years of age, only six younger than James “Cheetah Boy” Neil, Josh had never made it to the big leagues. Six months curtain jerking in CGC and then the move to Baltimore. And Josh could see the wear and tear on James’ body. Granted his career spanned two decades to Josh’s one. But Josh knew he was no spring chicken. He was nearing his peak and had little to show for it. But without that “it” factor, he thought maybe, just maybe he had all he deserved.</p>

<p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Affirmative</strong></p><p>

The Piledriver School of Wrestling boasts some of the biggest names in professional wrestling amongst its graduates. Skull DeBones, Jack Bruce and Rick Law all graced the prestigious facility at once point and as time goes on, more and more of what will become legendary workers have graduated. In 2010, Jonah Pilgrim found his way on to the independent circuit, with the top-class credentials of the Piledriver School. Unfortunately for Jonah, he looked more like a fan than a wrestler. He was big. But kind of pudgy. Tall. But kind of lanky. He was a funny guy who looked more suited to stand-up comedy than professional wrestling.</p><p> </p><p>

Fortunately for Jonah, he was resourceful, quick-witted, and able to use his appearance to his advantage. He spent a number of years working some of the most highly acclaimed comedy bouts on the independent circuit all across the Eastern United States before Sam Keith spotted him and set him up with a job in Mid Atlantic Wrestling. Indie pop-up shows were good fun, but if he wanted to make a name for himself in the business, Jonah knew he had to find a real place to ply his trade, and none were better than MAW. </p><p> </p><p>

The day he signed for MAW he was told he’d be paired up with Hal Harvard, real name Benjamin Cardillo, as a kind of frat boy team. Jonah had no issues with that, it was a good use of his talents. Ben was a weird guy. Very secretive, kept to himself and whenever he and Jonah needed to talk about a match or an angle they always did it in Jonah’s place, which was weird for him considering he still lived with his mother and sisters at the time. There was even a time when Jonah could have sworn, he heard Benjamin say “affirmative” to his mother over the phone, but he assumed they were just one of those military families.</p><p> </p><p>

The night before Ben left to go to SWF after signing a big money contract, Jonah took him out for a drink. There, in a dark bar with the smell of old whiskey hanging in the air Benjamin told Jonah “Listen buddy, I’m going to do something big when I get to SWF, just you watch.”</p><p> </p><p>

Jonah, happy for and proud of his friend clinked a glass against his and said “Of course you will buddy, and with some luck, I’ll be joining you soon. Maybe we can get the Pack back together what do you say?”</p><p> </p><p>

Ben smiled to himself and said, “You don’t get it Jonah, I’m going to change the world.”</p><p> </p><p>

Another weird one in a long line of weird ones, Jonah shrugged his shoulders and continued his celebrations with his friend. When the truth behind Operation Lullaby came out, and Jonah discovered why Ben had really gotten into wrestling, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride for his friend. The two talk occasionally, and Jonah even got to meet Ben’s wife and daughter that he couldn’t talk about while the two worked together.</p>
