KSW 84: SOLDIC VS. LOHORE II

Paris, France. July 2022, week 4.

Prelims:

2WzfNqN

BW prospect Charles Mollo stays undefeated.

#7 MW Oskar Piechota gets a win via kneebar vs. #13 Nico Musoke in his KSW debut.

Manny Bermudez gets a 3rd round guillotine on Arnold Allen, earning himself a second KSW FW title shot.

Henry Cejudo gets a clean UD win over Rob Font, and he'll go on to challange Horiguchi for the title in the BW tournament final.

Main card:

1. WW Tournament QF: #1 Michael CHIESA (19-5) v. #4 Ismail NAURDIEV (21-5)

Both were on weight, but Naurdi looks bigger now than he did yesterday.

Naurdi lands a jab and a big right. He's pressuring, while Chiesa is counterjabbin'. Roudhouse body kick lands for Naurdi. And a good hard straight. He moves in the pocket but doesn't touch with anything. They trade jabs for the next 2 minutes, with Chiesa looking a tad better, but still being pressured. Chiesa takes a jab-leg kick combo. Naurdi hits another hard straight. Then he opens up Chiesa with a clever feint, A GREAT STRAIGHT HITS THE JAW AND CHIESA IS DOWN, AND HE AIN'T MOVING!

Winner: Naurdiev (Straight From Austria Straight KO @4:01, round 1). Rating: Good.

Post-fight: Naurdi praises Chiesa for showing up and trying his best, but Naurdi's got a lot of hunger in him, and whoever wins tonight's main event will have a similar fate.

Naurdi broke in the world WW rankings at #22, while Chiesa fell from 10 to 15.

2. HW Bout: #8 Stefan STRUVE (31-13) v. #10 Felipe MICHELETTI (8-1)

Struve is more than 25lbs heavier and about 9 inches taller.

Struve shoots and gets to half-guard off the takedown. He hits a few shots, and smartly moves into side control. He tries to mount Micheletti, but the Brazlian rolls and gives up his back... Damn it, Micheletti... Struve can't get the RNC in, so he slowly works his way into a good body triangle. With the triangle applied, he gets the RNC on his second attempt, and Micheletti taps.

Winner: Struve (Rear naked choke @4:08, round 1). Rating: Good.

Post-fight: Struve declares his respect towards his opponent and gets the crowd behind him, saying he's the best of all worlds, as his blend of kickboxing, BJJ and grappling, and his freakish size makes him an unstoppable machine.

Struve broke into the world HW rankings at #23.

3. LHW Bout: #11 Tomasz NARKUN (19-5) v. #12 Michal MATERLA (30-8)

Narkun was on weight last night, but he also looks way heavier than his opponent here.

Materla hits a jab and a body punch, but Narkun gets close and downs him with a single leg takedown, as Materla pulls guard. But a scramble sees them soon end up with Materla on top, in north-south position. Another scramble sees them on their feet, with Narkun keeping Materla against the cage. He gets Materla down with a great trip, AND GETS HIS BACK! Narkun can't get a body triangle on, but he gets both hooks in. He seems to have the RNC in deep, but 'Cipao' Materla keeps fighting it! And he does it until he's asleep, the ref has to save him!

Winner: Materla (Rear naked choke technical submission @3:06, round 1). Rating: Good.

Post-fight: Narkun is sad that he had to put his Berserkers Team team-mate to sleep, but he's glad to stand victorious after a fight against a warrior with such heart. He's glad he can finally train together with his friend and he's putting the division on notice, as he's still a dangerous man.

Narkun broke into the wolrd LHW rankings at #24.

4. And now, FOR THE K S W LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIIIIIIIIIIIIIP: © Mateusz GAMROT (20-1-1) v. #1 Gregor GILLESPIE (18-2)

Here's a shot hoping this one goes for longer than 1 round.

Gillespie wants to impose himself from the very start, as he takes Gamrot down, and now sits in his guard! He hits a few small shots, BUT GAMROT GRABS HIS ARM AND WANTS TO LOCK IN A TRIANGLE! Gillespie blocks it and gets back to throwing strikes, but keeps his body close to Gamrot. Gamrot tries to work a triangle choke but Gillespie doesn't let it, and keeps striking. Gamrot manages a sweep and they both get back to their feet. Gamrot gets close and clinches, but Gillespie escapes the clinch, and we have 1 minute left in round 1. Gamrot shoots like a bull and Gillespie pulls guard. A few shots from the Polish land, and it's round over. Surely Gillepsie's round.

Gamrot starts the clinch this time. He works hard to manage to get Gillespie stuck against the cage. They battle there for minutes, and Goddard gets them back to the center with a bit over 2 minutes left. Gillespie's turn to shoot, and Gamrot is on his back again, pulling guard. He hits a few more punches, and Gamrot tries a triangle choke, but fails it. One more attempt fails, and the round ends as Gillespie's pounding from guard. Hard to decide who won this one, Gamrot might have edged it out.

Gamrot is again downed early in the round, as he's pulling guard 6 seconds in. BUT HE HAS A GUILLOTINE THIS TIME! CAN THIS BE IT? GAMROT HAS IT TIGHT, BUT GILLESPIE AIN'T TAPPING! Gamrot lets it go after 13 seconds, and Gillespie is back to controlling. A scramble sees Gillespie advance to half guard. Another scramble goes bad for Gamrot, as Gillespie now has side control. Gillespie hits a bunch of strikes untill the end of the round, and this was clearly his round, with 0 offence from Gamrot except the early guillotine attempt. 29-28 Gillespie?

Gamrot is the one shooting fast as round 4 starts, but he can only get Gillespie hopping on one foot. He drives him against the cage as they dirty-box. He punches him for 2 minutes until Gillespie escapes, and Gamrot is starting to look a bit tired. Gillespie's really pushing him. Gillespie shoots, and he gets the single leg TD, as Gamrot pulls guard. He punches Gamrot for about 1 minute and a half, and then Gamrot secures an arm and tries to set up a triangle choke for the remaining 40 seconds of the round, with no success. Another clean Gillespie round, so champ Gamrot surely needs a finish if he wants to retain.

Gillespie shoots hard again, BUT THIS TIME GAMROT SPRAWLS WELL! COME ON CHAMP! He gets a few small shots on Gillespie and then clinches with him. He pins Gillespie to the cage. How will you win that way, Mateusz? He's stomping as they're dirty boxing. The ref separates them with only 80 seconds left. Gamrot sprawls again as Gillespie went for the TD. Gamrot hits small shots and then clinches, but Gillespie masterfuly sweeps his legs end gets on top of Gamrot in side control. 15 seconds left AND GILLESPIE IS HAMMERING SOME BIG SHOTS ON GAMROT, BUT THE TIME IS UP! Let's see what the scorecards say!

Decision: 49-46 Gamrot (wtf). 49-46 Gillespie. 49-46 GILLESPIE (huh).

Your winner, AND NEEEEEEEEEEEEEW KSW LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION: Gregor 'THE GIIIIIFT' GILLESPIEEEEEE (Split decision). Rating: Average.

Post fight: Gillespie celebrates his short-notice performance and intends to have a lenghtier and less controversial reign than that of Gamrot. He's always willing to give a rematch to him, and he'll beat whoever offers to take on him.

Title prestige: up from 53 to 62. Awwww Yiss

Gillespie takes Gamrot's place at #24 in the P4P rankings. He also moved up in the world LW rankings, from 5 to 4, while Gamrot fell out of it, from 24.

5. And our main event of the night, PARIS! For the K S W WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP, IN THE WELTERWEIGHT TOURNAMENT QUARTER-FINAAAALS:

© Roberto 'ROBOCOP' SOLDIC (11-2) v. #7 Alex 'L'ENFANT' LOHORE (25-6)

Lohore's looking motivated, as he hits a jab but misses a high kick. Soldic does the opposite, missing a couple of jabs and hitting a glancing blow with a high kick. They box techincally but land mostly jabs, with Lohore also hitting a leg kick and dodging a head kick from RoboSoldic. Lohore gets pushing and dodges a counter-jab, hitting a jab-straight combo. He then hits a body-hook. Soldic hits a roundhouse body-kick. Lohore keeps pushing and boxing with confidence and energy. But Soldic tries to stop his flow nailing a good right hand on him. Lohore rolls his shoulders looking ready to risk it all for glory. SOLDIC HITS A SPIN KICK WHILE LOHORE HITS A DAMAGING HEAD KICK, AND SOLDIC IS LOOKING DAZED. CAN LOHORE DO IT!? HE HITS SOLDIC WITH A HUGE CROSS IN THE GUARD, BUT SOLDIC IS STILL STANDING! WHAT WILL IT TAKE TO TAKE THE BOSNIAN MACHINE DOWN? ANOTHER HEAD KICK! ANOTHER HEAD KICK LANDS FOR LOHORE AND SOLDIC IS ON THE FLOOR! LOHORE IS POUNDING ON HIM AND HITTING HARD! SOLDIC IS TAKING A BEATING FROM THE FRENCHMAN! LOHORE GOES FOR A KNEEBAR!? SOLDIC BLOCKS IT, LOHORE WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING? Lohore is hitting weak elbows, now, he likely needs to catch his breath now. And that was it for round 1. Paris is dreaming of their man getting the upset W right now!

Round 2 and Soldic throws and misses with a cross, while Lohore counters with a good cross. Lohore hits 3 jabs and a good uppercut. Soldic seems to have way more respect for Lohore than before, and he seems to be looking to grapple now. Lohore lands another strong straight right, and a jab-cross combo. Sodlic hits a good punch BUT LOHORE HiTS HIM WITH A MASSIVE HOOK, AND SOLDIC HAS BEEN SLAIN! HE'S OUT COLD! MAAAAAMMA MIAAAAAAAAAAAA, WE HAVE A NEW CHAMPION! THE CROWD IS GOING INSANE, THEY'RE CHANTING AS IF FRANCE WOULD HAVE WON THE WORLD CUP!

Winner, AND NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEW KSW WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON: FRANCE'S OWN ALEX 'L'ENFAAAAANT' LOHOOOOOOREEEEEEE (****ING HEROIC HOOK TO THE JAW KO @1:36, round 2). Rating: Good.

Post-fight: PARIS IS GOING CRAZY AS LOHORE NOW HOLDS THE KSW CHAMPIONSHIP. ALL HE CAN SAY IS THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO BELIEVED IN HIM AND THAT IT'S ABOUT TIME THIS BELT GETS TO BE ON SOMEONE WHO'S ABLE TO KEEP IT FOR LONGER THAN A CUP OF COFFEE.

Title prestige: Still at 60. Still a priceless moment.

Lohore broke in the world WW rankings at #23, while Soldic fell from 4 to 17.

Attendance: 10 754

Main card preview:

1. Women's Flyweight Title: © Lucie PUDILOVA (13-6) v. #2 Ashlee EVANS-SMITH (8-5)

Our 2nd ever Women's Flyweight champion is on a 5 fight winning streak, and she's a badass. Great when grappling on the feet, great on the ground, good muay thai, good striking game, good chin, good conditioning and a fighting spirit. Who's gonna stop this girl? Maybe A Evans-Smith? Ashlee is coming off 2 decision wins over Alexandra Albu and she's been working on countering wrestling. Is that enough, since she only has a decent chin, decent technical boxing and good conditioning & heart? Of course it ain't enough.

Prediction: Pudilova by 1st round KO.

2. Middleweight Bout: #8 Abusupiyan MAGOMEDOV (26-4-1-1) v. #10 Scott ASKHAM (21-6)

Following a drug test failure in his KSW debut, Magomedov cleansed up and went on to win his next 4 by KO, with Kichigin being the only one who made it past round 1. He's one of the best boxers you'll see in MMA, and his head movement is a nightmare for any head hunter. He also has very good kicks and a great ground and pound game, + a good chin and conditioning and the heart of a lion, making him a complete well rounded nightmare. He's asked for a fight against ex-champion Askham and it's time KSW finally gives him what he wants. Askham is coming off violent losses to Jotko and Murtazaliev, and seems to be on the decline. He's still a good and very well rounded fighter, but his chin is vulnerable now, making it hard for him to stay competitive in a division full of great strikers.

Prediction: Magomedov by 2nd round KO.

3. Light Heavyweight Bout: #6 Vinny MAGALHAES (24-12-1) v. #10 Ivan SHTYRKOV (20-2-1)

Magalhaes is riding a 5 fight winning streak, with 4 1st round submissions. He's been working on his TD defence and bottom control & sweeping, as he's looking to decide where the grappling bouts go in order to apply his world class BJJ game. Shtyrkov is coming off impressive KO wins over Blachowicz and Viktor Nemkov. The power of his hands is his main asset, but he also posseses good wrestling so he can ground and pound on his opponents. Surely he's smart enough to try to keep it on the feet, tho, as pounding on a BJJ master like Magalhaes is a great risk. Anyone can win this one, tho.

Prediction: Magalhaes by 2nd round submission.

4. Welterweight Tournament Quarter-Final: #1 Donald CERRONE (36-17-1) v. #6 Rafael DOS ANJOS (30-16)

The OG Cerrone is coming off 6 consecutive losses, all of them via finish. His best weapon left is his ground game, if you believe that, although he still has decent to good striking. Will this cut it against an RDA that grapples like a champion and still has good boxing and low kicks? I doubt it.

Prediction: Dos Anjos by 3rd round submission.

5. Light Heavyweight Title: © Johnny WALKER (23-5) v. #1 Ryan BADER (32-5-1)

This was originally supposed to be Walker vs. Rockhold, but an injury made way for Bader to get his. Walker is riding 6 wins, with only 1 via decision, and he's seen as one of the best 5 P4P fighters at the moment. His control and pounding when on the ground are his only weaknesses, but he's still a submission threat and also careful to avoid getting sub'd. His striking game is nothing to mess with and he has the chin to go with it. Bader hasn't lost since January 2016. That was a long long time ago. He's a great boxer, a great wrestler and also good on the ground, as in his KSW debut he got one of his rare submission wins over Krylov. His chin is only decent, and Walker will be looking to exploit that with his killer striking. And he likely will, ending a 12-0-1 undefeated streak for Bader.

Prediction: Walker by 2nd round KO.

1. <strong>For the KSW Women's FLYWEIGHT title: © Lucie 'BULLET' PUDILOVA (13-6) v. #2 'REBEL GIRL' Ashlee EVANS-SMITH (8-5)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Pudi oustrikes Ashlee early on with jabs and a low kick, but then they trade leater for 2 minutes. Lucie's the one who keeps pressuring, and finally she manages to nail Ashlee with a good head kick, and Ashlee's slumping against the cage! But Pudi throws another hight kick that gets absorbed by Ashlee's forearm and head, and Ashlee is composed again. Back to work, Pudi hits jabs and low kicks until the end of the round, occasionaly taking a counter jab from Ashlee.</p><p> </p><p>

As round 2 starts, we see Ashlee's limping a bit. Pudi keeps coming with jab-low kick combos. Ashlee manages to hit a cross but her leg is only looking worse. Yet she hits another cross, but is hit by a 1-2 from Pudi. They trade hooks, and Ashlee gets cut under the eye. Pudi hits a good straight, and then gets a hook attempted countered by a good hook from Ashlee. But Pudi hits a nice hook of her own. And now she's back to jab-low kick combos. AND THEN SHE GOES HIGH WITH A KICK AND ROCKS ASHLEE, who backs until she hits the cage! Pudi gets the thai clinch, we have 40 seconds left. She throws a big knee to the chest, and misses the next attempt, and it's round over. 20-18 Pudi.</p><p> </p><p>

Round 3 starts AND PUDI ROCKS ASHLEE WITH ANOATHER BRUTAL HEAD KICK! ASHLEE's still on her feet, BUT PUDI SMASHES HER WITH A BIG RIGHT AND ASHLEE'S DOWN! PUDI POUNDS AWAY AND ONLY THE REF CAN STOP THIS ONSLAUGHT! STILL CHAMPION!</p><p> </p><p>

Winner, AND STIIIIIIIILL KSW WOMEN'S FLYWEIGHT CHAMPION: Lucie 'BULLET' PU-DI-LOVAAAA (Smashin' TKO @0:55, round 3). Rating: Great.</p><p> </p><p>

Post fight: Aged 35, with a 8-6 record, Ashlee announces her retirement. Pudi looks good with gold around her waist and says she's ready for any challenge and wants to test herself against anyone, including Antonina who won her debut earlier on the prelims.</p><p>

Title prestige: from 28 to 38, still a long way to go...</p><p>

Lucie Breaks in the women's P4P rankings at #14 and goes up in the world FlyW rankings, from 13 to 3.</p><p> </p><p>

2.<strong> MW Bout: #8 Abusupiyan MAGOMEDOV (26-4-1-1) v. #10 Scott ASKHAM (21-6)</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong></p><p>

They brawl with style early on, as in the first exchange Askham lands 3 punches while Abus lands 4 + a strong slick body kick. Then Askham lands a hook and takes a leg-kick. Then he hits a cross, but takes a jab-straight combo. As Abus presses forward, Askham hits a leg kick and dodges his opponent's strikes. Abus is spending quite some energy on ineffective strikes and Askham hits him with a jab and a good straight. They jab some more until the end of the round, and although he missed a lot, it's likely 10-9 for Abus as he touched Askham more often and nailed some powerful shots.</p><p>

Askham lands a hook, BUT ABUS HITS A MORE POWERFUL ONE AND ASKHAM GOES TO THE FLOOR! HE'S THROWING BIG SHOTS ON ASKHAM, WHO'S IN TROUBLE! He pounds until the ref stops it, TKO WIN FOR ABUS!</p><p> </p><p>

Winner: Magomedov (Hook & pound TKO @0:35, round 2). Rating: Great.</p><p> </p><p>

Post-fight: Magomedov praises Askham for being a tough man and expresses his interest in fighting the winner of the title tournament. Alikhanov and Piechota also want a piece of that pie, Abus.</p><p>

Magomedov breaks in the world MW rankings at #15.</p><p> </p><p>

3. <strong>LHW Bout: #6 Vinny MAGALHAES (24-12-1) v. #10 Ivan SHTYRKOV (20-2-1)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Vinny shoots as soon as possible, but Shtyrkov doesn't get taken down. Vinny gets him to the cage wall, but he's the one being dominated after a takedown attempt fails. But Shtyrkov doesn't deal much damage and Vinny escapes with 3 minutes left. Shtyrkov seems unable to land anything but jabs, until he finally hits a straight right, and then another, stronger one, as Vinny's looking to grapple. Vinny shoots again and drives Shtyrkov against the cage again. He then takes Shtyrkov down with a gret trip, securing side control with 1 minute left! He goes for an arm triangle, but can't get it, so he throws a few shots hoping it's enough to earn him the round, as it reaches its end. I'd give it to Magalhaes, as he landed more and also got a takedown, plus a decent submission attempt.</p><p>

Vinny shoots again, but again, he can only get Shtyrkov against the cage. They fight there for about a minute and then he sends Shtyrkov down with a slick trip, and Shtyrkov gives up his back! Magalhaes can't get the RNC, but after a struggle, he locks in a very tight body triangle. HE THEN GETS THE RNC LOCKED IN RIGHT, AND SHTYRKOV HAS GOT TO TAP! He does! The local hero wins!</p><p> </p><p>

Winner: Magalhaes (Rear naked choke @3:23, round 2). Rating: Good.</p><p> </p><p>

Post-fight: Vinny hugs and praises Shtyrkov for a good fight and reminds everyone he's asked for a Anthony Smith fight, and Smith hasn't even debuted or got a fight scheduled in the meantime.</p><p>

Magalhaes goes up from 19 to 6 in the world LHW rankings.</p><p> </p><p>

4.<strong> WW Tournament QF: #1 Donald CERRONE (36-17-1) v. #6 Rafael DOS ANJOS (30-16)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Well, two veterans meet here, and they're both 2 wins away from a title shot. They trade jabs early on and RDA hits a roundhouse body kick. Cowboy hits 2 jabs and a leg kick. RDA hits a jab and another body kick, and they go back to trading jabs for a while. RDA hits a leg kick, and then Cowboy hits him with a nice hook, AND RDA LOOKS HURT! Can Cowboy pull off the upset? Nope. A strong vintage Cowboy headkick gets ducked and RDA's back in it, 95 seconds left. RDA hits a hook, but Cowboy hits 2 jabs and a nice uppercut, and they trade leather until the end of the round. Judging by both volume & impact, Cowboy won round 1.</p><p>

They trade jabs and Cowboy clips RDA with a nice hook. They trade more jabs with Cowboy outstriking, but then RDA hits a wonderful hook, but Cowboy takes it like a can of beer. RDA hits a leg kick. Cowboy hits a good jab-straight combo and they hit a few more jabs until the end. Another fun round, but I say Cowboy clearly won it, if you can believe it. Damn, RDA needs a finish.</p><p>

RDA takes a pair of jabs and nails Cowboy with a left cross. He then hits a pair of jabs and a leg kick. They both seem to slow things down a bit. Cowboy hits a jab-jab-low kick combo of his own. RDA hits a low kick. Cowboy comes with a jab-body kick combo. RDA hits another low kick, and only now is Cowboy limping a bit. They trade leather for about 2 minutes, and RDA hits a jab-low kick combo. And they trade some more leather until the end, as RDA likely won this round, but lost the fight on my scorecards.</p><p> </p><p>

Winner: Cerrone (Decision: 29-28 x 3). Rating: Great.</p><p> </p><p>

Post-fight: Cowboy salutes Brazil and shows love for the country that gave us many greats and generations of amazing martial artists. He says he's gonna fight for as long as he can and he's glad to be a winner after such a shitty streak, and he'll keep coming back to the cage for as long as he's got fight left in him.</p><p>

Cerrone moves up from 20 to 19 in the world WW rankings.</p><p> </p><p>

5. <strong>And now, it is time FOR OUR MAAAAAIN EVENT OF THE NIGHT!</strong></p><p><strong>

FOR THE KSW LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP, FROM RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL, A FIGHTING MACHINE, OUR CHAMPION, © Johnny WALKER (23-5) v. the challanger who has 0 defeats in the last 6 years, #1 Ryan BADER (32-5-1)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

They trade leather early, and as Bader connects a straightm HE GETS ROCKED WITH A HUGE HOOK TO THE JAW! BADER IS DOWN! Walker is hitting some good strikes on him, but as Bader starts to cover up better, Walker switches to hitting the body while in side control. He spends the whole rest of the round doing this, as Bader's unable to pull guard or half guard. 10-8 Walker? Nah, 10-9.</p><p>

Round 2 and Bader hits a hook but gets touched with 2 jabs and a cross, AND BADER HITS THE DAMN FLOOR. Walker can't believe it, Bader is out!</p><p> </p><p>

Winner, AND STILL KSW Light Heavyweight Champion: Johnny WALKER (Cross KO @0:30, round 2). Rating: Good.</p><p> </p><p>

Post-fight: Walker is glad to have brought KSW across seas and to win against an opponent that had all the momentum in the world in violent fashion. He thanks his SBG Ireland mates and does the McGregor walk and he's looking like the perfect prick. Damn you Johnny, we love you.</p><p>

Title prestige: from 69 to 77 (aw Yeaa)</p><p>

<strong>Maciej</strong>: Yea, yea, that would be nice. But how in the world did 'Cowboy' beat RDA? RDA has been training like a mad man, I thought he'll be a legit contender when we picked him up, he hasn't done anything of note.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Martin</strong>: Might be the mental side of things, I don't know bud. But Cerrone is a big name and he might just make a bigger impact than we'd expect.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Maciej</strong>: Anyway. All in all, KSW Worldwide 1 was hella fun, and a big success. So it surely won't be the last.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Martin</strong>: I'm actually thinking of doing another one before the year ends, but we'll see how the booking process will go.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Maciej</strong>: Perfect, I'm all for it. But now, we gotta talk to our Russian friends about the fun we'll be having over in October.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Martin</strong>: Indeed. But let's have a little fun, hall-of-famer. We already established that this year the GP will be in the heavyweight division. Who you got your money on?</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Maciej</strong>: Overeem. No way he's not winning this. And the whole world will be watching it and loving it.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Martin</strong>: Overeem? He's 42, I think? You sound like such a casual sometimes. I'm going with young Tafa. He looked better than expected tonight. Aight now, off to our business with the Russians.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Main card predictions:</strong></p><p> </p><p>

1. Light Heavyweight Bout:<strong> #3 Anthony SMITH (35-16) v. #13 Viktor NEMKOV (32-9-1)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Originally, Nemkov was supposed to fight Thiago Santos to headline the prelims, but an injury for 'Maretta' got Anthony Smith debuting instead. Smith is coming off back to back wins over Prochazka and Ankalaev. His chin is getting weaker, but he still is a pretty good all arounder, with his main assets being his submission attacks, his punching power and his clinch. Nemkov started his KSW career with 2 wins, but is coming off decisive losses to Shtyrkov and Cirkunov. His great wrestling is his main asset, but he struggles to get submissions over quality ground fighters and seems to lack KO power. His chin is also as bad as Smith's. Still, this might be pretty close if Nemkov can get some takedowns and avoid throwing hands with Smith.</p><p> </p><p>

Prediction: Smith by decision.</p><p> </p><p>

2. Bantamweight Bout:<strong> #1 Raphael ASSUNCAO (29-9) v. #7 Ben NGUYEN (20-11)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Assuncao is coming off a loss to Garbrandt. Aged 40, the veteran is still good all around and has an impressive positional ability that helps him maintain control and pull off unexpected submissions. He is 2-4 in his last 6, with his wins being decisions over Chito Vera and Kelleher. Nguyen seemed to be having a career resurgence in KSW before Damacio Page took his head off with a head kick. Now, he comes back with a chance to prove himself against another veteran and he'll look to get the bandwagon back on track. His boxing is great, so are his submissions, and he's a good grappler on the feet as well, plus his chin is also decent.</p><p> </p><p>

Prediction: Assuncao by decision.</p><p> </p><p>

3. Lightweight Bout: <strong>#10 Marcin HELD (31-8) v. #11 Rashid MAGOMEDOV (24-8-1)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Held is having a great run right now. He left the UFC coming off a win in 2018, went 2-0 in ACB, went 2-1 in PFL and won & defended their championship, and now he's 3-0 in the KSW, coming off a RNC win over Rick Glenn. He's mainly a grappler with great submission of all kinds and great takedowns, but pretty weak in the clinch and armed with fairly decent striking. Rashid Magomedov, although 1-5 in his last 6, has a dangerous man aura around him, as he seems dangerous no matter how bad it's been going for him. Still, he's usually only dangerous on the feet and his chin isn't looking too well at this point in his career. On paper, he makes a good stepping stone for Held, but if he pulls off an upset he coul get some nice chances for himself.</p><p> </p><p>

Prediction: Held by 2nd round submission.</p><p> </p><p>

4. Heavyweight Bout: <strong>#6 Philip DE FRIES (21-7-1) v. #8 Satoshii ISHII (26-11-1)</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong></p><p>

This two first met in 2014, when Ishii won over De Fries by unanimous decision in Antonio Inoki's IGF. They met again in June 2020, as De Fries dominated Satoshi to defend his KSW Heavyweight championship by unanimous decision, in a fight where according to 2 of the judges, he won 2 rounds by 10-8. Now they've gotta break the tie. Since then, De Fries won against Bedorf and Micheletti, but lost his title against Aleksander Emelianenko, while Ishii collected impressive wins over Goncharov, Sayles, Ante Delija and Ben Rothwell. De Fries has pretty powerful strikes, but lacks technique. He has some decent takedowns that help him towards imposing his great BJJ game. Ishii is a great judoka that also possesses great submissions, but is inferior to De Fries in the striking department, which De Fries exploited in their last fight. Now we see who's really the best man, as they collide for a third time.</p><p> </p><p>

Prediction: Ishii by 3rd round submission.</p><p> </p><p>

5. Welterweight Bout: <strong>#8 Borys MANKOWSKI (25-8-1) v. #10 Albert TUMENOV (24-5)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

The MMA Gods finally gave Borys a good position in the rankings. Now, he gets another good opponent to keep proving himself. Borys is a machine with too many qualities to mention, and he's on a 6 fight winning streak, 4 submissions and 2 UDs. Tumenov proved himself by getting wins over Kaszubowski and RDA, and his lone KSW loss was in a war against Robocop Soldic. He's a striker with a great chin, and will look to keep the fight on the feet or throw hammers if his fists ground his opponent. Sadly for Tumenov, fighting Soldic & Mankowski back to back isn't really the easiest task, but he's only 30, so he will have time to bounce back and make a splash.</p><p> </p><p>

Prediction: Mankowski by 2nd round submission.</p><p> </p><p>

In dissapointing news, 8-0 prospect Claudia Rey missed weight, so she's getting cut regardless of the result, as we don't have where to bump her up to. :(

(I'm sure our friend Matt will love these results)

KSW 85: PRIZEFIGHTERS

Poznan, Poland, September 2022

Prelims:

qzS1TZc

Gunni Nelson defeated #11 WW Amirov by TKO in a fantastic fight.

Nick Pace got a 1st round RNC sub' win in his FW debut against #13 Martinez.

#7 MW Abdulsupyan Alikhanov KOed #10 Barriault cold in less than a minute.

Main card:

1. LHW Bout: #3 Anthony SMITH (35-16) v. #13 Viktor NEMKOV (32-9-1)

They trade early and strong, banging each other, but then Nemkov shoots for a TD, but only gets Smith against the cage. He takes him down with a slick judo trip, AND GETS THE BACK OFF THE TD! He tries hard to get a RNC for almost 2 minutes but can't do it. Wait, now he has both hooks in! HE GETS IT, AND IT'S IN DEEP! SMITH TAPS!

Winner: Nemkov (Rear Naked Choke submission @3:20, round 1). Rating: Great.

Post-fight: Nemkov says this is what happens when the underdog actually believes in himself and comes into the fight with the right gameplan. He's glad to get this big win and shakes hands with Smith.

Anthony Smith fell in the world LHW rankings, from #9 to #20.

2. BW Bout: #1 Raphael ASSUNCAO (29-9) v. #7 Ben NGUYEN (20-11)

They trade early on and Nguyen hits a clean good right, and then a good hook, as Assuncao hits jabs. Nguyen hits a hard cross, and he's dominating really well here. Assuncao seems to want to grapple, but Nguyen gets him win a hard jab-straight combo. After that, they trade leather for a while and as we enter the last minute, Assuncao hits a body kick, but Nguyen answers with a strong straight, AND ASSUNCAO IS OUT, COLD!

Winner: Nguyen (Straight from Asia KO @4:08, round 1). Rating: Great.

Post-fight: Nguyen bows respectfully in the face of his opponent and hugs him, wishing him well. He's thankful for the opportunity to fight a respected veteran like Assuncao and is curious about who's the next fighter KSW throws him against.

Assuncao fell in the world BW rankings, from #18 to #25.

3. LW Bout: #10 Marcin HELD (31-8) v. #11 Rashid MAGOMEDOV (24-8-1)

They touch gloves, and then Held goes for a TD and gets it right, as Rashid pulls guard. Held fails when trying to advance past guard. Magomedov goes for a punch, but Held dodges and isolates a leg! He secures a toe hold and he finishes it fast!

Winner: Held (Toe hold submission @1:21, round 1). Rating: Good.

Post fight: Held is glad he's back at the top of his game, as he earns a second submission win here in KSW, and he says he'd fight anyone, but would love to fight Magomedsaygid Alibekov, who's set to fight Abel Trujillo right now. He's getting that fight no matter the result of Alibekov's next fight.

4. HW Bout: #6 Philip DE FRIES (21-7-1) v. #8 Satoshii ISHII (26-11-1)

De Fries towers over Ishii, as most HWs do, having 5 inches and 20 pounds over the 5'11'' 245lbs Ishii.

It's on and Ishii refuses to touch gloves. De Fries is pressuring, AND HE HITS ISHII WITH A HARD CROSS, KNOCKING HIM DOWN! HE POUNDS WITH HEAVY SHOTS, CAN ISHII SURVIVE!? DE FRIES GOES FOR AN ARMBAR AS ISHII STARTS COVERING UP WELL, but he can't lock it in right. Ishii then successfuly fends off a kimura attempt. De Fries is hitting the body and the head with easy strikes. Herb Dean gets them up with 35 seconds left. De Fries setps in the pocket AND ROCKS ISHII WITH AN UPPERCUT, AS HE KNOCKS HIM DOWN A SECOND TIME! He's pounding but again, Ishii's defending well, although he gets rocked a few times, and it's round over. Surely a 10-8 round for De Fries.

They trade a few easy shots as round 2 starts and Ishii manages to clinch without taking damage. But he can't take De Fries down, and the Englishman takes him down with an inside trip, ending up in guard. A scramble sees them back up, with the smaller Ishii pressuring De Fries against the cage. He works hard and manages to get De Fries on the floor with a good trip, and he's now in guard. An uninspired scramble from De Fries sees Ishii get side control. De Fries manages to transition to half guard, and Ishii throws small strikes at him until the round is over. 19-18 for De Fries, could we see a draw here?

Last round and De Fries hits a jab and a hard cross, but Ishii then shoots and gets De Fries down! But De Fries has a guillotine! But it's likely not deep enough, so De Fries let's go of it after 12 seconds. Ishii throws some lefts and defends when De Fries tries to get his hand. Ishii controls well and hits De Fries with short strikes. He fends off another arm submission attempt, and he keeps controlling De Fries until the round ends.

Judges scorecards: 28-28. 29-27 De Fries. 28-28. That's a Majority Draw, so a new decisive bout will be needed. Rating: Average.

5. It is now time for our MAAAAAAAIN EVENT OF THE EVENING! A WELTERWEIGHT BOUT BETWEEN TWO QUALITY WARRIORS!

#8 Borys 'THE TASMANIAN DEVIL' MANKOWSKI (25-8-1) v. #10 Albert 'Einstein' TUMENOV (24-5) (that's such a "Ryan 'Darth' Bader" kinda nickname...)

Borys wanted to shoot but Tumenov keeps him at bay with sharp kickboxing. Tumenov hits a low kick and Borys hits a jab and a damaging right hook. They slug it out and Borys scores with a cross, but Tumenov throws a powerful head kick, AND MANKOWSKI IS DOWN ON THE FLOOR FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE IN 7 FIGHTS! Tumenov gets pounding but he gets swept after landing osme big strikes! Mankowski manages to get Tumenov against the cage, AND HE PULLS OFF THE CLASSIC MANKOWSKI SUPLEX! Tumeno'v sitting against the cage, with his legs under Borys. He stops the guillotine attempt, tho, he's done his homework on Borys. Tumenov's punching the back with strikes of frustration, AND BORYS GETS THE GUILLOTINE IN THIS TIME, BUT WITH ONLY 14 SECONDS LEFT! WILL TUMENOV SURVIVE? He does! Onto the next round! Really hard to judge this one, I'm giving it to Tumenov

Tumenov starts round 2 off hot, hitting 4 punches and a good rounhouse kick. He then hits a good straight. But then Borys manages to clinch, pushing Tumenov against the cage again. Mankowski Suplex goes well again, but Tumenov pulls guard this time. Borys can't isolate a leg, and a scramble sees Mankowski on the floor, pulling half guard. Tumenov throws small strikes on him for the rest of the round, and he's been looking very good here. Likely 20-18.

Mankowski tries to be the strikes as round 3 starts, but gets countered with a good hook from Tumenov. He bullies Borys with his jabs, but then Borys shoots with speed and Tumenov is now pulling guard. Borys again fails when trying to isolate a leg, but gets side control off a scramble. He tries to go for a Von Flue choke, but can't get it, so he settles for knees to the ribs, and round 3 ends with Borys as the clear winner. 29-28 Mankowski.

Borys his a good cross, and only now both men are starting to look a little tired. Tumenov tries to unleash a head kick but Borys dodges it and connects with one of his own! TUMENOV'S WOBBLING! FLYING KNEE CONNECTS, BUT TUMENOV HAS BLOCKED IT FAIRLY WELL! Tumenov is backed against the cage, AND MANKOWSKI TAKES HIS HEAD OFF WITH A HUGE HEAD KICK! HE'S OUT COLD! WHAT A BOUT THIS WAS!

Winner: Borys 'THE TASMANIAN DEVIL' MANKOWSKI (Head kick KO @1:21, round 4). Rating: Fantastic.

Post-fight: "This is the kind of war that will turn a kid into a die hard and a hater to a hardcore fan. I told you I can take on anyone and win with style. Thank you Albert for one hell of a fight, TONIGHT IS MY NIGHT AND MANY MORE WILL COME! THANK YOU POZNAN, I LOVE YOU!"

Main card preview:

1. Lightweight Bout: #3 Anthony PETTIS (24-11) v. #10 Nik LENTZ (31-13-2-1)

Pettis is coming off 2 consecutive wins after getting cut by the UFC, both via finish. Aged 35, he's a skilled strikes with decent power in his hands, but his biggest assets at this point are his wrestling and submission games. His chin is also not the worst. Lentz is only now coming back after debuting last December. Lentz is a wrestler who's been about two levels lower than Pettis for his whole career, and now it's pretty much the same situation, although it's maybe just a 1 level difference now. Lentz has a small chance, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Prediction: Pettis by decision.

2. Light Heavyweight Bout: #5 Mauricio RUA (27-14-1) v. #11 Karlos VEMOLA (32-6)

Shogun is coming off a an unsuccesful title challange. He's still a good fighter all around, with his submissions from the bottom being his main asset. Vemola is 5-o in KSW and would love nothing more than to beat a legend to cement himself here. His most impressive wins in KSW were over Erslan, Stosic & Shtyrkov, 2 of them via ground & pound KO. The fact that he's a wrestler that likes to spen the fights over his opponent while Rua's best submissions are those from the bottom might be a bad sign for Vemola, but a win for him would surely prove a point, although he's 37, a veteran in his own right.

Prediction: Rua by 2nd round submission.

3. Lightweight Bout: #7 Magomedsaygid ALIBEKOV (17-1) v. #8 Abel TRUJILLO (18-9)

Alibekov is a good sambo fighter who's been on a roll. He's a very good boxer and also great on the floor, and he has a top notch wrestling clinch. Trujillo is 3-1 in KSW and his boxing is taking him further than expected. He's mainly a boxer with good takedown defence and fairly good ground strikes, being only decent in the other departments. His head-hunting style has been working most of the times, tho, as he has all momentum on his side right now.

Prediction: ALibekov by 3rd round KO.

4. Featherweight Tournament Quarter Final: #1 Jose ALDO (30-8) v. #5 Cub SWANSON (27-13)

Aldo is coming off an unsuccessful title challange where he got KOed in seconds. His chin is straight up bad at the moment, but he is still quite a complete fighter, with almost eveerything a quality fighter needs, except submission offense and top control. Cub just got his first KSW win in his second fight for us. He's a good grappler who also occasionaly busts out some nice strikes, but Aldo seems the favorite on paper.

Prediction: Aldo by 3rd round KO.

5. Featherweight Title & Tournament Quarter Final: © Mirsad BEKTIC (18-3) v. #2 Khamzat DALGIEV (16-4)

Bektic looks unstoppable. He's such a complete fighter, yet he chooses to grind his opponents away in every fight. Great takedowns, great top control, great striking elusiveness, and if you somehow manage to connect, his iron chin might just break your hand. I can surely picture him cleaning the whole division and then going down to bantamweight to add some more gold. Dalgiev's run as champion was an impressive one, with 3 clean KO wins and a TKO, and he's been working hard on his ground game and to improve his strenght. Him and Bermudez seem to be the only ones in the division to have a real chance of stopping Bektic. I see him getting back his title here, in his hometown.

Prediction: Dalgiev by decision.

1. LW Bout: <strong>#3 Anthony PETTIS (24-11) v. #10 Nik LENTZ (31-13-2-1)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Pettis hits Lentz with jabs and a hook, getting Lentz a gash above his eye. Lentz answers by shooting and getting a single leg TD, as Pettis pulls guard. Lentz smothers him for most time, and Rosenthal gets them up only after 3 minutes, with 80 seconds left. Pettis connects with a good right kick! Lentz's standing against the cage, trying to cover up, as he eats another decent straight. But he dodges an uppercut that would have finished him, and as soon as he circles back he shoots for another takedown and gets it! BUT PETTIS HAS A GUILLOTINE! There are just seconds left, tho! And Lentz survives, but the guillotine was in tight. The 2nd takedown might have given Lentz the round, but Anthony's guillotine might have secured him that round. 10-9 Pettis in my book, but keep in mind Lentz had top control for 3 minutes.</p><p>

Round 2 starts and Pettis hits 3 jabs and a leg kick, but Lentz shoots and gets Pettis down again. But he has a guillotine again! Not tight enough, tho, IMO. Yes, Pettis releases it. Lentz punches the body for about 2 minutes, but Pettis works his way up on the feet with thanks to a hook, and now they're in a standing clinch. Pettis manages to get Lentz against the cage! But Lentz is outstriking him and works his way into controlling Pettis. With the underehooks in, he lifts Pettis and gets side control off a greco-roman slam, and hits a few elbows untill the round is over. Surely a Lentz round, 19-19?</p><p>

Lentz shoots as soon as the round starts, BUT AGAIN PETTIS HAS A GUILLOTINE! But Lentz gets free, and punches Pettis untill the ref gets them up with 70 seconds left. Another Lentz takedown, another guillotine attempt for Pettis, another escape for Lentz. Lentz punches Pettis for the rest of the round.</p><p> </p><p>

Winner: Lentz (Decision: 29-28 x 2, 29-28) (Dunno how anyone can find a reason to give 2 rounds to Pettis). Rating: Average.</p><p> </p><p>

Post-fight: As Lentz finally gets the first big win of his career, he's glad he's been believing in himself for as long as he's been fighting and he'll proudly bear this win on his record.</p><p>

Anthony Pettis fell from #19 to #25 in the world LW rankings.</p><p> </p><p>

2. LHW Bout: <strong>#5 Mauricio RUA (27-14-1) v. #11 Karlos VEMOLA (32-6)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Vemola refuses to touch gloves, as is tradition. Shogun answers to this disrespect with a hard straight. Vemola gets a leg as he was trying to get a TD. He gets Shogun against the cage, but he escapes soon. Vemola shoots again. Everything repeats, as Shogun escapes from against the cage without taking damage. And the exact scene repeats once again. Come on, guys... Well, thank God, Shogun hits a hook. But Vemola shoots again and gets the TD this time, as Rua pulls guard. Vemola sits on top of Shogun and hits some strikes untill the round is over. He dictated the pace, he landed strikes and got a good TD, safe to say it's 10-9 Vemola.</p><p>

Vemola shoots again and gets the takedown. They punch each other for 4 minutes, with Vemola obviously outstriking, and Roshenthal gets them up with 30 seconds left. Vemola gets Rua against the cage, hits 2 punches and that's it. 20-18 Vemola. Rua seems to be in need of a Hail Mary Sub, and he surely's the right man for the mission. No sub' attempt from him yet, tho. </p><p>

Shogun hits Vemola with a nice straight. He follows up with a crunching hook, but Vemola's taking it well. But Vemola dodges another stirke and shoots, getting Shogun against the cage. They dirty box for a minute and Shogun wrestles his way to freedom. Shogun hits another good straight, and Vemola shoots again, getting Shogun against the cage but Shogun escapes with 0 damage taken this time. Vemola shoots again and Shogun pulls guard. SHOGUN GETS AN ARMBAR LATE, WITH ONLY 22 SECONDS LEFT. BREAK THAT ARM, RUA! NO, IT'S OVER, VEMOLA SURVIVED! </p><p> </p><p>

Scorecards: 29-28 Vemola. 29-28 Rua. 29-28 Vemola.</p><p> </p><p>

Winner: Vemola (Decision). Rating: Decent.</p><p> </p><p>

Post-fight: Rua announces his retirement and I have no idea how to comment this, as losing to a prick like Vemola isn't the nicest way to go out, especially when he was seconds away from breaking his opponent's arm. Vemola brags with his wrestling and says he'd like Shtyrkov or Narkun next.</p><p> </p><p>

3. LW Bout: <strong>#7 Magomedsaygid ALIBEKOV (17-1) v. #8 Abel TRUJILLO (18-9)</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>

</strong>Alibekov hits two good hooks early, while Trujillo only catches him with jabs. More jabs land from him, but he gets struck with a right as clean as day. Alibekov hits a good jab-hook combo, damaging Trujillo. He then gets close enough to clinch. He gets Trujillo against the cage. AND HE NAILS A BIG SUPLEX, as Trujillo pulls half guard. And Alibekov hits Trujillo as round 1 ends. 10-9 Alibekov.</p><p>

Alibekov shoots and drives Trujillo up against the cage. Some dirty box AND ALIBEKOV SUPLEXES TRUJILLO AGAIN, but he ends up in full guard this time. Alibekov tries to isolate a leg but can't do it. He then advences to half guard. He's pounding, and a scramble sees him back in full guard. He tries again to isolate a leg and fails, as the round ends. Another good round from him. 20-18 Alibekov.</p><p>

Trujillo tries to be more aggressive, but gets struck with a crunching hook. Alibekov is starting to get a little tired, and a cross from Trujillo lands. Trujillo follows up with a good hook, AND ALIBEKOV LOOKS DAZED! But Alibekov dodges and he's back into it. Alibekov dodges another good hand and hits a damaging hook. But Trujillo also hits a big right, AND THEN HE SMASHES ALIBEKOV WITH A HUGE CROSS! Alibekov's on the floor, TRUJILLO'S HAMMERING! But Alibekov covers well and survives. Trujillo throws some weak elbows but doesn't finish it. </p><p> </p><p>

Winner: Alibekov (Decision: 29-28 x 3). Rating: Great.</p><p> </p><p>

Post-fight: Alibekov is glad to have survived that last round and praises Trujillo for showing good heart tonight. He's looking forward for his next challange. </p><p> </p><p>

4. <strong>FW Tournament QF: #1 Jose ALDO (30-8) v. #5 Cub SWANSON (27-13)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Aldo opens Cub up with a smart feint AND WRECKS HIM WITH A HUGE STRAIGHT RIGHT! Cub is down, AND ALDO'S RAINING HAMMERS ON HIM! AND THAT'S IT!</p><p> </p><p>

Winner: Aldo (Straight & hammers TKO @0:36, round 1). Rating: Good.</p><p> </p><p>

Post-fight: Aldo invites everyone to his winner party and is still looking to bring everyone he faces to the floor. Bektic - Aldo, Dalgiev - Aldo 2, Bermudez - Aldo, it's as good as booked.</p><p>

Aldo up from 10 to 8 in the world FW rankings.</p><p> </p><p>

5.<strong> And now, Russia, your main event, FOR THE K S W FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIIIIP AAAAND IN THE KSW FEATHERWEIGHT TOURNAMENT QUARTER FINAAAALS:</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>

© Mirsad BEKTIC (18-3) v. #2 Khamzat DALGIEV (16-4)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Dalgiev hits Bektic with a cross early on, opening a gash under his eye. Bektic grabs Dalgiev and pushes him against the cage, BUT DALGIEV FIGHTS BACK AND GETS BEKTIC DOWN, PULLING GUARD! WE'VE NEVER SEEN BEKTIC ON THE FLOOR IN KSW! A scramble sees them back up, tho, with Dalgiev pushing Bektic against the cage. Dalgiev manages to take Bektic down again with a single leg takedown, and now tries to get a leglock! But he can't do it. Dalgiev keeps smothering him without throwing strikes, and it's round over. 10-9 for Dalgiev, and Russia's heart is with Dalgiev.</p><p>

Bektic wants to right the wrongs of round 1, and he takes Dalgiev down wit a single leg TD. He's punching the body and doesn't let his arm be grabbed by Dalgiev. But a good scramble sees Dalgiev on top, in guard! He hits a few shots before going for another leglock. The ref' gets them back up with a minute left. Dalgiev nails Bektic with 2 jabs and a good straight, and then another 2 jabs and a cross, as the round ends. Hard to choose a winner for this round, but I'd say the sub' attempts and ground control make it 20-18 for Dalgiev.</p><p>

Bektic is defending better against Dalgiev's boxing this time, and Dalgiev's starting to get tired. But then he hits a good jab-straight combo. But a Bektic takedown sees Dalgiev pulls guard. But as Bektic tries to move past it, a scramble sees Dalgiev back in control, driving Bektic up against the cage. Dalgiev gets him down again with an ugly takedown, as he holds Bektic in turtle position, with a facelock. He goes for a D'Arce Choke! But it doesn't work and Bektic scrambles and now holds Dalgiev against the cage. 1 minute of dirty boxing. 1 more minute of dirty boxing, and Dalgiev escapes with 1 minute left. He only lands 1 jab, and it's another close round. but the fact that Dalgiev actually nailed damaging shots and went for a submission edges it out for him in my book. 30-27 for Dalgiev and this is bad for Bektic, as his last 6 wins were all via decision and he might need to change tactics right now.</p><p>

Bektic grabs Dalgiev and gets him against the cage. Not many strikes happen, and after 2 minutes Dalgiev escapes. Dalgiev hits a strong cross, and then he hits a strong hook! He hits one more jab and Bektic clinches with him, getting him against the cage. They dirty box for the minute left. Another close round, but again, the only strikes that actually did had big impact where from Dalgiev, so it's 40-36 on my scorecard. </p><p>

Dalgiev hits Bektic with a strong hook. He misses a bunch of strikes and seems to be getting tired, but happily for him Bektic doesn't seem like the guy that can finish a fight against a quality opponent. Still, Betkic takes him down and sits in his guard now. He pounds with easy strikes, and a scramble sees Bektic move to side control. HE TRIES A KIMURA, but Dalgiev defends. Dalgiev's looking exhausted, tho. But Bektic can't do anything than throw strikes untill it's round over, and it's 49-46 on my card. </p><p> </p><p>

Winner, AND NEEEEEEEEW K S W FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPION: Khamzaaaaaat DALGIEEEEEEEEEEEV (Decision: 50-45, 49-46, 48-47). Rating: Good.</p><p> </p><p>

Post-fight: "Last year, I thought nothing will ever compare to beating Jose Aldo here, in Russia. This is better. I feel I've climbed a mountain, and I'd say this is the best moment of my career. Amazing. Be sure we'll do the trilogy, but first I have to move through Manny Bermudez and one more opponent. Bring it on."</p><p>

<strong>Main card preview:</strong></p><p> </p><p>

1. Middleweight Bout:<strong> #3 Khalid MURTAZALIEV (19-4) v. #6 Kevin HOLLAND (19-7)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Khalid is coming off a long awaited, but unsuccessful title challenge. Aged 29, he still has plenty of time to get his hands on gold. He's been working hard on his wrestling and his ground game, where his main asset are his top control and submission defence. Trailbrazer Holland is also 29, coming off a UD loss to Derek Brunson. He's lacking momentum and he seems to be on an early decline. He's a powerful puncher with good wrestling, but a pretty weak chin, and Murtazaliev's quality striking will most likely end this fight.</p><p> </p><p>

Prediction: Murtazaliev by 1st round KO.</p><p> </p><p>

2. Women's Flyweight Bout: <strong>#3 Mara ROMERO BORELLA (14-8-2) v. #11 Cory MCKENNA (9-1)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Mara came into KSW off 2 UFC wins, but got upset in her debut by Viana Mota, who choked her in the 2nd round. Mara is a good BJJ fighter who likes to keep close contact to her opponent. McKenna is a top prospect and she's 5-0 in KSW. She's a great boxer and wrestler and she has very good sub' defence and a good chin, making her hard to finish. She called out Mara after winning on her main card debut, and she'll likely win in dominant fashion.</p><p> </p><p>

Prediction: McKenna by 3rd round KO.</p><p> </p><p>

3. Heavyweight Bout: <strong>#2 Alexander VOLKOV (32-9) v. #4 Curtis BLAYDES (16-5-1) </strong></p><p> </p><p>

Well, Volkov is coming off KO losses to JDS & Hunt. He's a good boxer with decent kicks, who's been training in karate since his youth. He also has good submission defence, but his chin is quite bad, which isn't great for a guy that loves to stand and bang like him. Blaydes just won his KSW debut against Mukhomad Vakhaev. He's a great grestler with good ground skills and plenty of power in his hands, + a decent chin. I see him getting the W here, but I expect a close fight.</p><p> </p><p>

Prediction: Blaydes by decision.</p><p> </p><p>

4. <strong>Welterweight Title & Tournament Semi Final: © Alex LOHORE (26-6) v. #4 Ismail NAURDIEV (22-5)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Lohore just shook the MMA world when he KOed Soldic in their rematch and won the KSW Welterweight Title. His great stand up game is getting even better, and he's also been working hard on his offensive submissions. He's a great and well rounded martial artist, and his favourite game plan is ground and pound. After losing the title, Naurdi bounced back with a 1st round KO over Michael Chiesa. Naurdi's qualities are very similar to Lohore's, except his chin and cardio are better. He also seems to have good enough TD defense to keep the fight on feet unless Lohore manages to knock him down. Still, it will surely be a close fight.</p><p> </p><p>

Prediction: Lohore by 4th round KO.</p><p> </p><p>

5.<strong> Heavyweight Title: © Shamil ABDURAKHIMOV (22-6) v. #1 Stipe MIOCIC (21-4) </strong></p><p> </p><p>

Shamil is a powerful puncher that loves to keep the fight on the feet and look for the KO or get his opponents against the wall to grind them with his dirty boxing. Stipe is coming off 2 wins and has a good stand up game, more power than Shamil, good wrestling and a good ground game, and great ground and pound potential. Still, he loves to strike so he might not want to take Shamil down, as his stand up game is better than his opponents and both their chins are fairly decent for their age. Still, I see Shamil pulling off an unexpected KO here.</p><p> </p><p>

Prediction: Abdurakhimov by 1st round KO.</p><p> </p><p>

KSW 87: ABDURAKHIMOV VS. MIOCIC

Moscow, Russia. October, 2022.

Prelims:

BJozpB6

#7 MW Oskar Piechota gets a 2nd round guillotine win over #10 Cezar Ferreira.

#5 FW Bryan Caraway wins via UD in his rematch with #4 Josh Emmett, securing himself a place in the FW Tournament Semifinals, where he'll rematch Jose Aldo.

Main card:

1. MW Bout: #3 Khalid MURTAZALIEV (19-4) v. #6 Kevin HOLLAND (19-7)

Moscow's own Khalid dodges and hits a jab-hook combo early on. Holland gets him with a hook in the next exchange, BUT KHALID WRECKS HIM WITH A VICIOUS RIGHT CROSS, AND HOLLAND IS OUT COLD! DAMN!

Winner: Murtazaliev (Cross KO @0:42, round 1). Rating: Good.

Post-fight: Khalid bows down in the front of his people and says he's glad KSW has gave him this opportunity and that he's been working hard on landing the perfect punches in camp and we can expect more KOs like this from him in the future.

Khalid moved up from #12 to #6 in the world MW rankings.

2. W FlyW Bout: #3 Mara ROMERO BORELLA (14-8-2) v. #11 Cory MCKENNA (9-1)

McKenna starts off hot, hitting a hard jab-cross combo. Borella dodges McKenna's striking and then shoots, getting McKenna on her back! McKenna claws her way to the cage side, but Borella pins her when she gets in a seated position. McKenna takes a few shots but manages to stand up, and she escapes Borella, getting back to the center. They trade some weak jabs and McKenna gets a body punch. She then hits a great jab-straight combo. But then she throws an unispired jab-leg kick combo tht misses and Borella manages to secure her leg! She drives McKenna against the cage, but McKenna reverses the position! She gets a good outside leg trip and Borella is down, with McKenna on her back! But there were only seconds left, and that's it for round 1. Close round, as Borella hit plenty of strikes when on top of McKenna, but the impact of McKenna's early strikes might give her the round. I'm giving it to McKenna, 10-9.

McKenna is throwing early, but only hits a jab, and then a weak head kick. THen she touches with a jab-big right combo. As Borella barely htis a jab, McKenna wrecks her with a jab-jab-cross combo, but Borella still isn't rocked! She shoots for a TD, but can only get McKenna against the cage. But again, McKenna reverses the hold and then manages to get a takedown, getting side control off it this time. She throws a few weak hands and the goes for a kimura, but doesn't get it. She hits small strikes until the end of the round, and surely all judges gave her this round. 20-18 McKenna on my card.

Borella shoots early this time and she gets McKenna against the cage again, but is that a good idea? McKenna escapes again with ease, and hits Borella with a strong jab-hook combo. She then catches her with a hard jab-cross combo, and now McKenna's breathing a tad heavier. Still, she connects a 4 jab combo, but another TD attempt from Borella sees McKenna stuck against the cage. But again she escapes with ease. She gets violent with Borella again, but Borella takes all of McKenna's shots like it's nothing. And the round ends as McKenna's still throwing and Borella's still eating them shots like it's breakfast time. This might be a 10-8 round for McKenna.

Winner: McKenna (Decision: 30-27). Rating: Decent.

Post-fight: McKenna declares her respect for Borella and her toughness and says she's proud of how well she did here. She knows how to get a crowd to like her.

Borella fell from 16 to 20 in the W FlyW world rankings.

3. HW Bout: #2 Alexander VOLKOV (32-9) v. #4 Curtis BLAYDES (16-5-1)

Blaydes looks about 20lbs heavier than Volkov.

They stand and bang early, as Volkov hits a 1-2 and gets nailed with a cross. He barely touches Blaydes with a head-kick. Blaydes retaliates with 2 jabs and a good hook. But Blaydes gets shot witha big hook from Volkov. Jab-hook combo lands for Volkov. Blaydes then hits a jab-body punch combo, and Volkov answers with a jab and a clean right. Blaydes hits a good cross, but gets struck with a 1-2. Volkov hits a spinning body-kick. Blaydes hits a hook, and then he hits a good jab-jab-cross combo, AND VOLKOV HITS THE FLOOR! BLAYDES IS POUNDING WITH BIG SHOTS, AND THE REF GETS IN BETWEEN THEM!

Winner: Blaydes (Cross & Pound @3:47, round 1). Rating: Great.

Post-fight: *Blaydes being bland*

Blaydes went up from 14 to 9 in the world HW rankings, while Volkov fell from 16 to 18.

4. For the K S W WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIIIIIIIIIIP: The Champion, Alex 'DA KIIID' LooooOHOOORE (26-6) v. The #4 Contender, Ismail 'The AUSTRIAN WONDERBOOOY' NAURDIEV (22-5)

Lohore dodges a hook and nials a clean right. They stand and bang but miss the big shots and only land jabs. Lohore takes a clean right now. They both trade leather, wasting plenty of energy and displaying impressive head movement. As we're reaching the end, Lohore hits 2 jabs and a clean right, and Naurdi hits 2 jabs right before the round is over. Naurdi connected more, and he's likely won this round. 10-9 Naurdiev.

Round 2 and Lohore hits a good right but takes a jab and a spinning body kick. Naurdi hits another kick, to the ribs. Lohore hits a leg kick, but gets touched with a head kick, and he's been outstruck in the first half of round 2. Naurdi hits a jab-straight combo. Both men are already getting a bit tired. Lohore hits a jab-straight combo, but Naurdi hits a jab-cross one. Another nice combo lands for Naurdi, AND LOHORE'S NOW STUMBLING! 30 seconds left! BIG RIGHT FROM NAURDI AND LOHORE'S DOWN, CAN THIS BE IT!? NAURDI IS UNLOADING WITH BIG HANDS, AND THE REF JUMPS IN WITH ONLY 3 SECONDS LEFT! WE HAVE A NEW CHAMPION!

Winner, AND NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEW K S W WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPIOOOOOOOON: Ismail 'THE AUSTRIAN WONDERBOOOOOOOOY' NAUUUUURDIEEEV (Straight & pound TKO @4:57, round 2). Rating: Good.

Post-fight: Naurdi thinks it's about time someone manages to actually win when defending this title, and he says he's the right man for the task. He's glad to be champion again and he's not losing it again.

Title prestige: up from 60 to 64.

Naurdi went up from 21 to 6 in the world WW rankings, while Lohore fell off the list.

5. And our main event, FOR THE K S W HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIIIIIIIIIIP: The defending champion, RUSSIA'S OWN KSW CHAMPION, Shamil 'ABREK' ABDURAKHIMOV (22-6) v. #1 Stipe MIOCIC (21-4)

They trade some leather in the first minute, and then Miocic hits a pair of jabs and a good hook. Shamil misses some more big strikes, and Stipe hits him with a jab-hook combo, opening a gash under Shamil's eye. Stipe hits a jab-jab-cross combo, but gets caught with a good hook. Stipe hits a good jab-straight combo. Shamil can barely touch Stipe. Stipe hits him with another good hook. And another one. Shamil's already breathing heavily. Stipe hits another hook. And a hook to the body now, following 2 jabs. Another hook to the body from Stipe and it's round over. Shamil only connected with 1 jab, and my prediction went to shit. 10-8 Stipe?

Round 2 and Stipe hits with another punch to the body. He hits a jab and a roundhouse body kick, and is also starting to slow down a bit. Stipe hits a low kick. OHO, SHAMIL HTIS A JAB-LOW KICK COMBO, hitting his first combo of the night! Right hook from Stipe. Low kick from Stipe. Shamil hits a roundhouse body kick, also takes one + a jab from Stipe. Jab-cross combo lands for Stipe. Shamil hits a 1-2, but takes a jab-straight combo from Stipe. Jab-low kick combo from Stipe. They clinch, then, and Stipe tries to take Shamil down, but can't do it, so they let go of the clinch. Stipe hits a good 1-2. They're both looking tired. They trade jabs before clinching again, and Shamil gets Stipe against the cage, with 45 seconds left. He hits a knee and Stipe escapes when Shamil tries a stomp, and it's round over. 10-9 Stipe, so 20-17 Stipe on my card.

Stipe starts with another body kick. He dodges a right and hits a good hook. Jab-low kick from Stipe. Shamil is looking exhausted. Body punch by Stipe, and now Stipe's looking as exhausted as Shamil. They clinch and Stipe gets Shamil down with a greco-roman slam! Shamil pulls guard. Stipe moves to half guard. Stipe hits a bunch of strikes for minutes and then moves to side control, with 45 seconds left. From there, he throws some big strikes that hurt Shamil, forcing him to give up the back! 10 seconds left. And that's it. Might be another 10-8 round for Stipe, as he hit powerful strikes and Shamil hasn't touched him with anything this time. Shamil needs a finish for sure.

Shamil hits a clean right early, but Miocic hits one of his own in the next exchange. They then clinch again after trading jabs. Stipe can't get Shamil down, and Stipe ends up backed against the cage instead. But Stipe escapes with ease, and then he hits Shamil with a mean hook! And another one, but Shamil's still taking them. Another hook lands for Stipe. And Stipe throws another strong hook. They then exchange some powerful hooks, but both remain composed. They clinch again and a greco-roman slam sees Shamil pulling guard again. Stipe hits a few shots until the round is over, and that's it for round 4. 40-34 Stipe on my card.

Shamil's face looks quite damaged. They clinch early on and Shamil gets Stipe against the cage. Stipe escapes with ease once more. Stipe dodges past one more hook and lands a clean right. And then a jab and another clean right land for Shamil. Jab-hook combo lands for Stipe. And another one. Shamil hits a jab and Stipe answers with A POWERFUL STRAIGHT, AND SHAMIL IS DOWN! Stipe hits some good shots, but Shamil's covering well. Stipe keeps hitting good shots, but Shamil scrambles when Stipe tries to mount, and now Shamil has Stipe against the cage. Shamil hits some good shots, and there are 40 seconds left. Shamil keeps hitting with small strikes until it's round over. 10-9 for Stipe again.

Winner, AND NEEEEEEEEEEW KSW HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIOOOOOON: STIPE MIOCIIIIIC (Decision: 50-45 x 3). Rating: Decent.

Maciej is extremely sad:

Maciej: Martin...

Martin: Yes?

Maciej: I have terrible news...

Martin: If no one died and no champion retired, it can't be that bad.

Maciej: IT IS THAT BAD! THE COUNCIL OF MMA GODS DEMOTED US BACK TO HIGH LEVEL NATIONAL!

Martin: Screw them, then. No MMA Gods invited at this years Grand Prix. Except Silva, Khalidov and Pudzi.

Maciej: This is stupid! We should invite them to the show to talk about it!

Martin: You invite whoever you think we should invite, them. Just don't cut my guys off the list. Who do you think's winning it?

Maciej: Overeem, of course.

Martin: Nah, young Kawasaki's smoking everyone this year.

New signings:

Now, onto our next card, THE SPECTACULAR KSW GRAND PRIX 2022: HEAVYWEIGHT CHALLANGE

Prelim fight:

WW: Michal Michalski v. Uros Jurisic

Main card preview:

1. HW GP QF 1: #9 Fernando RODRIGUES JR (15-7) v. #10 Mukhomad VAKHAEV (9-7-1)

Rodrigues is on a 3 fight winning streak, all by KO. He's an axe murderer with scary power in his hands, and good technique. Sadly, his chin is pretty weak and the rest of his game is only fairly decent. But a good thing is that his fights rarely go for too long, which is good in a one night GP. Vakhaev is coming off 3 consecutive losses, against the likes of Emelkanenko, Mir and Blaydes, so no shame in those. He's also the last guy to defeat Rodrigues, so this will be an interesting rematch. He's a good sambo fighter, with good boxing and takedowns, plus good ground and pound. But I believe the hands of Rodrigues seal the deal this time. Anyway, neither men seems to have the chins to win 3 in one night, unless they catch lightning in a bottle.

Prediction: Rodrigues by 1st round KO.

2. HW GP QF 2: #14 Justin TAFA (11-2) v. #12 Hachigoro KAWASAKI (7-0)

Another rematch here (draw was random again). Tafa is 3-1 in KSW, with his lone loss being against Kawasaki. He's a great boxer with a granite chin, but his sub' defence is mediocre and that was exploited by Kawasaki in their first fight, as although Tafa might be the best head hunter we have, the other sides of his game are pretty bad, although he's only 28 and has time to get better. He also has some great knee strikes. Kawasaki is a 25 years old Japanese prodigy. He became Pancrase champion just before coming to KSW. He's a BJJ expert with a great chin, and good technical striking (especially low kicks), but lacking power. He has good grappling on the feet and he's just great on the ground, and he seems worst potential opponent for Tafa, as Tafa's only chance is nailing him with the perfect punch before Kawasaki can get close. And Kawasaki's chin of iron makes KOing him a hard task. Kawasaki is one of the two favorites of the night in my book. Tafa makes that shortlist too if he can get through Kawasaki, but I don't see him winning here.

Prediction: Kawasaki by 1st round submission.

3. HW GP QF 3: #13 Zaur GADZIBABAYEV (12-5-1) v. #4 Justin WILLIS (13-4)

Zaur is coming off 3 wins, 2 subs and a TKO. He's a fighter with a great chin and good submission. Sadly for him, he's not well rounded by any means, and getting his opponents down isn't easy when he faces quality opposition. Is Justin Willis tough enough opposition? He's a good puncher who likes to trade, but his chin isn't the best and Zaur's striking might just be enough to take him down and see him get subbed, and Zaur's tough chin will help him surely. Willis can pack a punch, tho, so it will be a matter of what happens first: does Zaur's chin fail him, or does Willis get taken down and submitted? I believe more in the first.

Prediction: Gadzibabayev by 3rd round submission.

4. HW GP QF 4: #7 Stefan STRUVE (32-13) v. #11 Mindaugas GERVE (10-3)

Well, this is a bummer, as it was supposed to be Overeem vs. Struve, but Overeem got injured just 2 weeks before, and now his debut is put on hold once more. Struve is coming off 3 wins, all via submission in the 1st round. His submission game is his main asset right now, but he also has decent striking and takedowns. Gerve is coming off 5 wins, all via KO, 4/5 in the 1st round. He's a good to great boxer with good conditionoing and lethal submissions, although he rarely gets to use those great submissions, as his punches usually seal the deal and his takedowns are only decent. I see him and Kawasaki as the two main contenders of the night.

Prediction: Gerve by 1st round KO.

5. Featherweight Bout: #7 Salahdine PARNASSE (17-2-1) v. #13 Jason KNIGHT (22-8)

Paransse last faught at last years GP, where he lost a big fight against Mirsad Bektic in a painful display of wrestling from Bektic. He's still mainly a muay thai fighter with great submissions from the bottom and good takedown defence. He's fighting Knight who's 1-2 in KSW, coming off a SD win over Andre Harrison. Knight is good with the low kicks and loves throwing them, and he's good on the floor too, with good submissions from the bottom. Parnasse is likely smoking him.

Prediction: Parnasse by 1st round KO.

6. Light Heavyweight Bout: #4 Misha CIRKUNOV (16-7) v. #7 Tomasz NARKUN (20-5)

Cirkunov got a 1st round win via RNC in his KSW debut. He has powerful hands, but preffers to use his wrestling and ground game as his main weapons. Narkun just got a 1st round RNC win over Materla in his last fight, after suffering back to back losses for the 1st time in his career. He also prefers to keep fights on the ground, also preferring bottom control. His submission game seems superior to that of Cirkunov, so it's him that I see winning this one.

Prediction: Narkun by 3rd round submission.

Don't be scared, submit those

Main card predictions:

HW GP QF: Fernando RODRIGUES JR. v. Mukhomad VAKHAEV

HW GP QF: Justin TAFA v. Hachigoro KAWASAKI

Michal Michalski, who fights on the prelims, weighed in overweight for his WW fight against Uros Jurisic.

KSW GRAND PRIX 2022: HEAVYWEIGHT CHALLENGE

Warsaw, November, 2022.

Prelim fight: Jurisic KOs Michalski in the 2nd & calls out Halota.

Main card:

1. HW GP QF 1: #9 Fernando RODRIGUES JR (15-7) v. #10 Mukhomad VAKHAEV (9-7-1)

Round 1: They trade a lot of small shots early, but a fast headkick gets Vakhaev groggy. Rodrigues follows up with another one and Vakhaev's out cold.

Winner: Rodrigues Jr. (Headkick KO @0:57, round 1). Rating: Good.

2. HW GP QF 2: #14 Justin TAFA (11-2) v. #12 Hachigoro KAWASAKI (7-0)

Round 1: If you read the preview, scrap that. The first jab-hook combo that Tafa throws gets Kawasaki groggy. Tafa lands one more big hook but Kawasaki is still up, leaning on the cage. HE THROWS A HUGE KNEE AND THAT IS IT, THE HARDEST CHIN IN THE DIVISION GOT SMASHED COLD! HOLY SHIT!

Winner: Tafa (Head knee KO @0:33, round 1). Rating: Good.

3. HW GP QF 3: #13 Zaur GADZIBABAYEV (12-5-1) v. #4 Justin WILLIS (13-4)

Round 1: It's a boxing war mainly, but Willis pulls out an unexpected head kick, but Zaur stays in the game. Willis outstrikes Zaur int he first 3 minutes and hits another head kick, but then Zaur starts wrestling and gets Willis down. They end up against the cage and dirty box for the last minute of the round. 10-9 Willis.

Round 2: Zaur stands and bangs with Willis again, and they look pretty even until Zaur shoots and takes Willis down again, 2 minutes in. He almost locked in a kimura from side control. He pounded on the downed Willis for most of the round, likely winning it. 19-19.

Round 3: They bang again and Zaur gets a cut above the eye after the first exchange of the round. They keep trading until a tired Willis clinches and gets Zaur against the wall. Willis dominates him until the ref separates to check Zaur's cut. Back in the center, Willis throws a hook taht gets Zaur down on the floor. He follows up with big shots but Zaur defends decent enough to stay in the fight, with 2 minutes left. Fight ends with Willis striking from side control, and this surely was his round. 29-28 Willis on my card.

Winner: Willis (Decison: 29-28 x 2, 28-29). Rating: Good.

4. HW GP QF 4: #7 Stefan STRUVE (32-13) v. #11 Mindaugas GERVE (10-3)

Struve has 11 inches and 25lbs over Gerve.

Round 1: Struve clinches, gets Gerve down with ease, keeping him seated against the cage. He fails with a guillotine attempt. They both fail multiple sub attempts as Gerve managed to pull a full guard, and it's surely Struve's round. 10-9 Struve.

Round 2: Gerve keeps Struve at bay in the first part, hitting him with good strikes and taking very little damage on the feet. Struve clinches as we move on two the second half of the round. He keeps Gerve against the cage and hits him with a bunch of short strikes for 2 minutes, when the ref' gets them back to the center. Gerve hits one more good shot and that's it. Surely Gerve's round, 19-19.

Round 3: Again, Gerve dominates on the feet, as Struve looks like he has forgotten all the kickboxing he knew. But 1 minute in, he catches a leg and takes Gerve down, but a scramble sees Gerve get top control, in guard. Gerve pounds on him, but Struve manages to get close to the cage wall and get on his feet. Gerve doesn't keep him on the fence, and they're back in center, with 1 minute left. Gerve hits more hard strikes, surely securing the round. 29-28 Gerve.

Winner: Gerve (Decision: 29-28 x 2, 30-27). Rating: Good.

5. FW Bout: #7 Salahdine PARNASSE (17-2-1) v. #13 Jason KNIGHT (22-8)

Round 1: Parnasse overwhelms Knight with a bunch of punches and kicks in the first 2 minutes, but Knight shoots and gets a single leg TD. He stays in top control for the whole round and pounds with small strikes, likely securing the round. 10-9 Knight.

Round 2: Knight takes Parnasse down fast, and keeps top control for minutes, Parnasse manages to escape and get up with 90 seconds left. But Knight clinches and gets him against the cage, where he beats him with clinch strikes, as Parnasse deals 0 damage in round 2. 20-18 Knight, Parnasse surely needs a finish.

Round 3: Again, Kinght gets Paranasse down early, but this time, they both get up in a clinch with 2 minutes left, after Knight dominated on the floor. In the clinch, Knight hits some powerful knees and then gets Parnasse back down. They get back up right before the end and Knight has been the aggressor this whole round. Great showing from the underdog. 30-27 Knight on my card.

Winner: Knight (Decision: 29-28 x 3). Rating: Great.

Post-fight: "About time I stop getting treated like a pushover. I dominated your ex-champ, it's time I get a shot at top guys to climb up these rankings. I want Arnold Allen next, and after that I might just challange for the belt."

6. HW GP Semi-Final 1: Fernando RODRIGUES JR. (16-7) v. Justin TAFA (12-2)

Well, two of the strongest strikers in the division meet here. Both weighed in at 265, but Tafa looks quite heavier than Rodrigues now.

Round 1: They stand and bang and it's a real banger, as both men go all out looking for another 1st round finish that seemingly doesn't want to come. But as we reach the last 30 seconds of round 1, a big straight left sends Rodrigues down, and Tafa's pounding earns him the TKO win. Are we seeing the birth of a star here tonight?

Winner: Tafa (Straight & pound TKO @4:54, round 1). Rating: Good.

7. HW GP Semi Final 2: Justin WILLIS (14-4) v. Mindaugas GERVE (11-3)

Gerve looks at least 30lbs lighter than his opponent. Willis already looks gassed, going 3 rounds in the QF at 265lbs ain't the best thing. Gerve still his something left in his gas tank.

Round 1: They stand and bang. Overconfindent, Gerve throws a wild head kick and gets rocked with a hook to the jaw. Willis hammers down on him but it ain't enough to end it, and Gerve pulls half guard. Willis pounds small shots, and a scramble sees Gerve on the back of Willis in turtle position. He throws some small shots and it's round over. 10-9 Willis.

Round 2: They bang again for the first minute, but they fall in a clinch as we enter minute 2. Willis hits some punches and gets the TD. He stays a while in top control but a scramble sees Willis pulling guard. Gerve pounds until the end of the round and this round was extremely close. I'm giving it to Gerve by an extremely slim margin. They're both exhausted by now. 19-19.

Round 3: Again, they bang for the first minute, to the fans delight. They then clinch, and Willis controls Gerve against the cage. He absolutely dominates him for minutes, and the ref gets them back to the center with 90 seconds left. Can Gerve turn the tides of this round? Nope. They clinch and Willis punches Gerve until the end of the round. 10-9 Willis, 29-28.

Winner: Willis (Decision: 30-27 x 2, 29-28). Rating: Great.

Can Willis pull off a Khalidov and win despite coming into the final completely exhausted? Personally, I doubt it, but let's see.

8. LHW Bout: #4 Misha CIRKUNOV (16-7) v. #7 Tomasz NARKUN (20-5)

Round 1: They clinch early and Cirkunov gets Narkun down with a cool judo trip, getting side control. He hits Narkun for minutes and the ref gets them up with 2 minutes left. They clinch again and Cirkunov gets narkun down with a similar throw, but he gets the back this time. He gets the body triangle on, and applies the RNC with 22 seconds left. Narkun taps with 2 seconds left.

Winner: Cirkunov (RNC submisison @4:58, round 1). Rating: Average.

Post-fight: Cirkunov praises Narkun for a good fight and says he love wrestling with quality grapplers. He's curious to see who KSW throws next at him.

Cirkunov moved up in the world LHW rankings, from 16 to 10, while Narkun fell off the list, from #22.

9. And now, a pretty surprising main event, THE FINAL OF THE KSW 2022 HEAVYWEIGHT CHALLAAAAAANGE:

Justin 'BAD MAN' TAFA (13-2) v. Justin 'BUFF' WILLIS (15-4)

Tafa fought for less than 6 full minutes tonight, while Willis is coming after 2 decision wins. Both men took some big shots.

Round 1: Willis manages to keep up with Tafa's striking for 2 minutes. Then, he starts a desperate clinch. He manages to get Tafa down. A scramble sees Willis get side control. He fails an Americana attempt, but locks in a kimura! But Tafa escapes! Willis hits him until it's round over. Willis somehow won this round, despite fighting with a pretty empty gas tank, while Tafa's still pretty fresh.

Round 2: But it won't bee looking good for Willis for long. Tafa hits him with a cross that gets Willis groggy. Tafa grabs Willis and sends his knee right in his head, knocking his opponent out cold.

Winner: Justin 'BAD MAAAAAAAN' TAFAAAAAAAAAAAA (Head-knee KO @0:26, round 2). Rating: Great.

Post-fight: Aged 28, Tafa is glad to lift his trophy in the air and wants to use this as a springboard to bigger things. He respects everyone but thinks he has got what it takes to be competitive in this division, and he can't wait to get his chance against Stipe.

Tafa broke in the world HW rankings at #19, while Willis fell from 15 to 18.

Attendance: 7 154.

Critical rating: 83. Commercial rating: 81.

FOTN: J Tafa v. J Willis

KOOTN: J Tafa v. J Willis

SubOTN: M Cirkunov v. T Narkun

Profit: +2 130 190.

Martin & Maciej are analyzing the division after this big show:

Martin: Well, the young heavyweights looked great here.

Maciej: But no Polish fighters...

Martin: But we are developing guys like Tafa and Gerve. Stars are stars, if our fans pay tickets, buy on PPV and watch on TV, things go well.

Maciej: Aight, aight. Do you see Tafa KOing Stipe?

Martin: Well, Stipe is 40, Tafa is young and hungry, if he won't knock him out we might see another HW champion retire with the belt. Tafa better perform.

Maciej: And then his star shines even brighter. Perfect.

Martin: Kinda sad Parnasse lost, tho.

Maciej: Should I fire Knight? I feel he's a waste of a spot on the roster, really.

Martin: Who cuts fighters after victories, Maciej?...

Maciej: You don't become a trend-setter by following the norm, Martin!

Martin: We're not firing Knight.

Maciej: Damn it. Fine.

And presenting the last card of the year will be a great pleasure, as we showcase our elite in the USA, IN L.A. BABY! KSW Worldwide 2: Walker vs. Rockhold. December, 2022.

Prelims:

MW: D Du Plessis v. A Ilic

W FlyW: A Niedzwiedz v. K Atherton

WW: #14 K Kaszubowski v. P Kincl

HW: #15 A Kudin v. Z Cisse

FW: D Parubchenko v A Azhiev

LW: H Szymajda v. N Parke

LHW: #5 Thiago Santos v. #12 I Shtyrkov

Main card preview:

1. Women's Flyweight Bout: #4 Ariane LIPSKI (15-6) v. #11 Polyana VIANA MOTA (11-9)

Ariane is 4-1 in her last 5, with two victories via 1st round stoppage. She's a good muay thai figher that also has good takedowns and BJJ, making her a pretty complete fighter. Her wrestling is a weak point, tho, and so is her chin. Viana Mota is the definition of never say die. As in, she's 2-8 in her last 10 but we still believe in her and so does she. Go do your thing, Poly!

Prediction: Lipski by decision.

2. Lightweight Bout: #2 Paul FELDER (19-7) v. #4 Mairbek TAISUMOV (29-7)

Felder got a UD win in his KSW debut against Rashid Magomedov. His good low kicks and decent stand up game are his main assets. Although he's been working on his ground game, it's unlikely to make a difference right now. Taisumov is coming off an unsuccessful title challange. He's one of the best strikers in all of MMA, so Felder is likely just in the way of Taisumov getting back on track.

Prediction: Taisumov by 2nd round KO.

3. Women's Flyweight Title: © Lucie PUDILOVA (14-6) v. #2 Antonina SHEVCHENKO (12-2)

Champion 'Bullet' Pudi is coming off 6 wins, 4 of them via KO. She's a great muay thai fighter, but her main striking asset is her boxing technique. She also is great on the floor and her wrestling game is also stron, being really hard to shift off top control. She also has a good chin, and she's pretty much the best champion we could ask for. And an axe murderer. Antonina has a win over Pudi in 2019, via RNC. Since then, she's lost 1 fight but won 4 others, so she has a pretty good momentum on her side. She's a good technical striker, but seems to lack KO power. But she's also a pretty good clinch wrestler armed with good TD defence, to keep her fights mostly on the feet, although she's got a few submission wins. Still, it's unlikely that 2022 Antonina will be too much trouble for 2022 Pudilova.

Prediction: Pudilova by 2nd round KO.

4. Middleweight Title & Tournament Final: © Darren TILL (21-3-2) v. #2 Derek BRUNSON (22-9)

Champ Gorilla Till is coming off 2 violent and cold KO wins, over Jotko and Murtazaliev. He's still evolving, as his striking gets more and more dangerous and he's even developing a decent to good ground game. And his chin can take big shots. Brunson got thrown into the KSW MW Tournament straight away and defeated Heinisch and Holland via decision to get here. He's a powerful striker, but he lacks technique. He loves to ground and pound his opponent, and his good wrestling is often put to good use, allowing him to decide where many of his fights go. He's surely not the favourite, but a win for him is surely possible.

Prediction: Till by 4th round KO.

5. Light Heavyweight Title: © Johnny WALKER (24-5) v. #4 Luke ROCKHOLD (18-6)

It looks like this show will be Old Challengers Night, as all 3 title challangers are aged 38. Walker bounced back in style after his 2 UFC losses, being now on a 7 fight winning streak, with only 1 going to the judges. His boxing is nothing to F* with, and his kicks aren't too merciful neither. Add some second to none TD & Sub defence, and you've got yourself a universal nightmare. Oh, he also has a strong-ass chin. Rockhold has somehow convinced the world he still has it with a submission win over now retired Ed Herman. He's a veteran, a good striker and a great wrestler, and a good BJJ fighter. But I really can't see him giving Walker any trouble.

Prediction: Walker by 2nd round KO.

It's the last of the year, make sure to submit those sweeet

Main card predictions:
