NXT Unleashed - Thursday, Week 4, August 2020 - Show Recap

This was a definite go home show, not a lot of impressive matches. The surprises keep on coming in the Mae Young Classic. Who would have thought our final in the Mae Young Classic would be Sarah Logan vs. Santana Garrett? I certainly didn't!

Even though they lost tonight, Badd Boys have really, really impressed me, and judging by their little interaction in the locker room, I'd say they've impressed #DIY too.

With his win over Mansoor, Raul Mendoza locks up his spot in the NXT Cruiserweight Title 3 way elimination championship match. And last but not least, HBK, Road Dogg, and myself, Triple H, have done some investigating. You see, we've been able to crack the clues on the male superstars. Here's what we know:

2 are part of a tag team. They come from a very, very good wrestling family.

The other 3 males, all have deceased father (god rest their souls). 1 is actually a third generation superstar. All 3 of them, their fathers wrestled in WWE at one time. Well I couldn't get much more than that, but that at least gives you guys a chance to predict who might be in the group.

NXT Takeover: Championship Night is going to be fun, but stressful as well. I can't wait.

NXT Takeover: Championship Night - Saturday, Week 4, August 2020 - Show Recap

I was going to have a long, drawn out write-up for this, but I decided that I just don't want to do big write-ups, not even for the NXT Takeover shows. If I need to make note of something, it'll be highlighted in the comments. If this costs me viewers, predictors, or means I never get nominated or selected for DOTM or DOTY, so be it. Long write-ups means less time to book shows, and I'm all about booking right now.

As you can see it was a good, solid show. Don Callis is now in NXT, and he will be commentating the NXT shows with Mauro Ranallo. What does this mean for Nigel McGuinness and Beth Phoenix? More on that later.

Congrats to #DIY for coming back to win 2 matches against The BroserWeights. Those are 2 of the best tag teams in the world right there, IMHO. A little bit of a surprise as Ryback won the NXT Title Match. I'll let you guys in on a little secret, something else that might draw people away from this dynasty. I haven't been choosing winners for the matches. I've been letting my road agents do that, and I think they've done a great job so far. Now, I do have plans, which I will reveal later, in which I will take over part of the booking, but my road agents choosing winners for matches is something that will continue.

Who are the 8 members of 2nd Generation? That's what everybody wants to know. I botched that segment because I only had people rated on overness. But, as mentioned, I'm not caring too much about ratings at the moment. So, here we go, 2nd generation is:

Brian Pillman Jr.

Harry Smith (aka Davey Boy Smith Jr.)

Joe Hennig (aka as Curtis Axel and Michael McGillicutty)

Ross and Marshall Von Erich

Rachael Ellering (she's injured right now so she's in the manager role)

Miranda Gordy

Tessa Blanchard

These 8, well 7, members (can't count Ellering right now) will be trying to wreak havoc on our current champions, but it's not going to be that easy for them. No no, they aren't just going to come in and earn title shots. They start at the bottom of the line, like everybody else.

<p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">NXT News</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

Lots to talk about, as NXT is making some changes going forward. First and foremost, <strong>Triple H</strong> has opened up a developmental fed based in Seattle. It will be <strong>Seattle Championship Wrestling</strong> and several NXT talent has been sent to SCW to work. <strong>Jeff Jarrett</strong> will be in charge of SCW, and in a surprise move, Triple H has hired <strong>Vince Russo</strong> to be the head booker of SCW. The following talent will start in SCW:</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="text-decoration:underline;">Male Wrestlers</span></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Alexander Wolfe, Bronson Reed, Cal Bloom, Daniel Vidot, Danny Burch, Dave Mastiff, Fabian Aichner, Flash Morgan Webster, Jake Atlas, Kona Reeves, Mansoor, Marcel Barthel, Noam Dar, Oney Lorcan, Raul Mendoza, Ridge Holland, Travis Banks.</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<span style="text-decoration:underline;">Female Wrestlers</span></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Alisha Edwards, Isla Dawn, Jessamyn Duke, Kacy Catanzaro, Marina Shafir, Piper Niven, Sara Lee, Vanessa Borne.</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<span style="text-decoration:underline;">Referees</span></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>DA Brewer, Jessika Carr</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<span style="text-decoration:underline;">Road Agents</span></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Paige, Terry Taylor (Jeff Jarrett and Nigel McGuinness will also act as road agents).</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>SCW Weekly</strong> will be shown on the NXT Network every Thursday night, after NXT Unleashed. The announcers for the show will be <strong>Joey Styles, Renee Young, and Nigel McGuinness</strong>.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Ranking System</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

NXT will be using a ranking system for the NXT Cruiserweight and NXT Women's Divisions, as well as a ranking system for the NXT/NXT North American Titles. For those that qualify for both the cruiserweight and NXT/NXT North American rankings, Triple H said it was one or the other. In 3 months, if a cruiserweight wants to move up to the NXT/NXT North American rankings and start fresh, he can. At the same time a cruiserweight current in the NXT/NXT North American division can move down to the NXT Cruiserweight Division. For the matches that have already taken place, it was pretty simple, the winners got 3 points for winning a match. With the elimination championship matches, the first person eliminated got 1 point, second person 2 points, and winner 3 points. So initial rankings are in place.</p><p> </p><p>

Triple H has branded a new show, <strong>NXT Spotlight</strong>. It will take place on Wednesday nights. A 1 hour show to be shown on NXT Network. Each division will have a random 4 way elimination match in which the first person eliminated receives 0 points, second person 1 point, third person 2 points, and winner 3 points. In addition, 1 division will have a second elimination match on each show, and that will rotate. For the first show, the NXT/NXT North American division gets 2 elimination matches. </p><p> </p><p>

The rules are simple: competitors drawn at random, with the exceptions being if a wrestler is involved in a storyline, he will be ineligible for rankings matches until his storyline ends. Also, only 2 wrestlers per match can be the same as they were the previous week, so as not to have the same matches every week, if that makes sense.</p><p> </p><p>

Every so often, championship matches will take place on NXT Spotlight, in which the #1 ranked superstar will receive a championship match. This generally will only take place when that title is not involved in a storyline.</p><p> </p><p>

I hope this is making sense. Any questions, feel free to ask.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>NXT Unleashed</strong> will remain on Thursday nights, but it is now a 1 hour show, and it will have the storylines and other matches. ONLY matches that take place on NXT Spotlight will count towards the ranking system. No other matches will. As far as tag teams, those individuals from the tag teams have been placed in either the NXT or NXT Cruiserweight division. Every so often I will display the rankings so you can get a better idea.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<span style="text-decoration:underline;">Special Events</span></p><p> </p><p>

In addition to the Mae Young Classic and Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, Triple H has announced 3 other special events that will take place during the year. These events will take place once a year, with the events being spread out every 3 months.</p><p> </p><p>

The other events that will take place are:</p><p> </p><p>

A King of the Ring style tournament (name of event TBD)</p><p>

A Young Lions Tournament in which the winner will receive an NXT developmental contract and be featured on SCW. </p><p>

A Lethal Lottery/BattleBowl type event, # of participants and name of event TBD.</p><p> </p><p>

It is not known which events will take place when, but we are being told events will be spread out every 3 months, with the King of the Ring and Young Lions tournament taking place at the same time.</p><p> </p><p>

Suggestions for event names are welcome.</p>

<p>I love clear systems like this, totally my style, following your dynasty should get a lot more fun now! Keep it up <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/cool.png.f00d2562b2c1d873a09323753efdb041.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

Also, have you thought of doing an NXT Breakout Tournament every 2 or 3 years? That one was a really fun concept that I'm sure we'll see again in real life NXT.</p>

Thanks! Look forward to trying to balance the rankings system and the "wrestling as a sport" philosophy with the entertainment side of things (angles, storylines) etc. I get the best of both worlds.

Tell me more about the NXT Breakout Tournament. Admittedly, I'm not familiar with it.

Well it only happened once, last year. A 8 man elimination tournament, with all the participants making their NXT debuts. It's how Lumis, Grimes, Bronson Reed, Swerve, Boa, Garza, Joaqin Wilde & Jordan Myles debuted in NXT. The winner received a shot at any NXT title he wanted. Myles won against Grimes in the final, and lost when challenging Cole on an episode of NXT in late August or early September, last year. I imagine they'll be doing it every few years, it's a nice way of introducing new talents IMO, they also showed a short promo from everyone involved during the entrances

Wow! I certainly missed that. Must have been before I started watching it regularly. That might be something I instill every couple years or something. Not sure about every year, but maybe. If I did it annually, that would give me 6 special events/tournaments, and I could run one every 2 months. For someone like me that hates booking storylines, that might be the way to go. Good suggestion!

NXT Unleashed - Thursday, Week 1, September 2020 - Quick Recap

YWAjj3v.jpg

The first 1 hour edition of NXT Unleashed certainly didn't disappoint, as Triple H announced a series of matches where each 2nd Generation member would go against an NXT member. If 2nd Generation won more matches in the 6 match series (1 match being a tag team match), then they would all get title shots at this months NXT Takeover. However, if the NXT talent won more matches, then the 2nd Generation group would have to break up, and none of the members would receive a title match for a year, but they would be allowed to stay as NXT talent, if they chose to. Triple H said all of the members of 2nd Generation have the talent to be on NXT, but he was very disgusted with the way they made their debut.

The Von Erichs then got into it backstage with the Badd Boys, calling their run in this years Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic a fluke. Before fists could fly, NXT General Manager William Regal told them to get to the ring and settle it there. He also announced Finn Balor would represent NXT against Joe Hennig in the main event.

Keith Lee won a 10 man Battle Royal and will face Harry Smith in next weeks main event.

A very funny moment occurred before the match between Balor and Hennig. Balor made reference to Hennig's father and grandfather. "Larry, Curt, and Joe. Sounds an awful lot like Larry, Curly, and Moe. The Three Stooges, because that's what you are, is a stooge." The crowd certainly appreciated that wisecrack from Balor, but it was all business after that as he defeated Hennig, negating the Von Erichs win earlier, evening the series at 1.

I like how this 2nd Generation vs. NXT storyline is progressing so far, and the Three Stooges joke was just too good to pass up. The crowd loved it. I personally am not sold on the Badd Boys, even though they did have a good run in the Dusty Rhodes Classic. The Von Erich brothers, of course, are going to get every opportunity to showcase their skills. The debut edition of NXT Spotlight will take place next week. As always, any feedback, I'm always open to hear it.

Oh yea, let's take a look at the debut show of SCW Weekly. Interesting booking, as all the matches were tag team matches, and no champions were crowned. Apparently Russo is trying to put some more tag teams together.

Well, if you don't want to book many debuting stars straight into storylines, I guess you could go this route, but adding 8 new people on the roster every year might get it overloaded in 2 or 3 years, that's why I suggested doing it only once every 2 or 3 years. Still, it's your dynasty, do it your way, bro! Glad my suggestion was useful ;)

I have decided to postpone the debut episode of NXT Spotlight until October (game time, not real time).

I have decided to completely revamp the rankings system. All 5 titles will have a ranking system. Tag teams will stay together, there will be a form of promotion/relegation, and there will be some different rules for some of the championship rankings.

The full details will be explained at the next Takeover in a few weeks. Look for a couple episodes of NXT Unleashed sometime today.

NXT Unleashed - Week 2, September 2020 - Quick Recap

QZItiUN.jpg

Welcome to NXT AJ Styles! Unfortunately he didn't get quite as big of a pop as I was hoping, but that wasn't the biggest surprise. As he was in the ring calling out Brian Pillman Jr., another new signing, Austin Aries appeared, claiming Styles was past his prime. NXT GM William Regal came out to announce that they would wrestle each tonight in the main event, with the winner taking on Pillman Jr. next week. Aries won the match, setting up a solid match next week.

Another new signing debuted tonight, as Peyton Royce was the mystery opponent for Miranda Gordy. Regal ran into Gordy backstage, told her to get to the ring and get ready, and Royce came out, taking care of business. Also taking care of business was Keith Lee, taking care of Harry Smith. This means that 2nd Generation is in danger. They have to win both matches next week to force a tie. NXT looks to be in great shape, and the celebration as the show went off the air proved how happy Triple H, HBK, Road Dogg, and Regal are.

That's not all, we have more new talent to debut over the next few weeks. But how about SCW this week? Did they crown champions? Was it all tag team matches again? Let's take a look.

ySSnjvY.jpg

So SCW has crowned a Womens champion. Not a bad choice, Alisha Edwards is a special talent. Still no SCW champion though, hopefully that changes soon.

NXT Unleashed - Week 3, September 2020 - Quick Recap

kDdFeai.jpg

It didn't take long for us to figure out what Tenille Dashwood was doing coming out of William Regal's office. She was the mystery opponent for Tessa Blanchard and while The Coach tried to interview her, she was on her way to the ring. Unfortunately, Blanchard is one of the best womens wrestlers in the world, and she gave 2nd Generation a much needed win.

Brian Pillman Jr. showed why he has the potential to be just as good as his father, getting back Austin Aries in what many consider an upset. This completed the 2nd Generation comeback, and with the series tied at 3, Regal had an announcement. He announced that next week on NXT Unleashed, there would be a series of 3 matches to decide 2nd Generations fate. Those matches would be:

Blanchard and Gordy vs. 2 mystery opponents

The Von Erichs vs. a mystery tag teams

In a 3 vs. 3 survivor series style match, Joe Hennig, Harry Smith, and Brian Pillman Jr. would take on 3 mystery opponents.

2nd Generation didn't like this, demanding to know who their opponents would be. Regal told them that it must not feel good to be in the dark. He did say that it would not be opponents they had already faced.

A solid show, at least I thought. Wow, that show rating. Ouch! I know I'm not worried about ratings so much, but boy, NXT will never get back to medium status like this. Oh well, whatever happens happens I guess!

Let's take a look at how SCW Weekly turned out this week:

iYooifR.jpg

In other news, WWE is definitely having some struggles with their women's division. We have already taken Peyton Royce from them, and are in the works of taking another of their female stars. Becky Lynch is on maternity leave, and old senile Vince just announced that Sasha Banks is going on maternity leave. What a mess. I think it's funny. We will continue to raid the WWE and take their talent. Whether or not we become the #1 company in the world, if we can knock WWE from that spot, I'm happy.

NXT Unleashed - Week 3, September 2020 - Quick Recap

Xo4JOLI.jpg

3 more wrestlers made their debut tonight, as the team of Bobby Lashley, James Storm, and Zack Ryder teamed up in a winner take all match, but couldn't take down the unified team of Brian Pillman Jr., Joe Hennig, and Harry Smith.

The reason this was a winner take all match is because of the results of the first 2 matches. The Von Erichs stayed hot by beating Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin.

Miranda Gordy and Tessa Blanchard couldn't get on the same page and they were defeated by Candice LeRae and Io Shirai.

With 2nd Generation winning the tiebreaker series 2-1, William Regal announced that as per the stipulation, all the members of the stable would wrestle for a title at Saturday's NXT Takeover. He then announced the problem that only Blanchard or Gordy could wrestle for the NXT Womens Title. He then dropped a bombshell that they would have to wrestle each other in the opening match of NXT Takeover, with the winner taking on NXT Womens Champion Santana Garrett. This did not make either lady happy.

I'm going to forego the SCW results, as until they start having title changes, I don't see the need. I'll definitely keep an eye on them though.

It looks like NXT may be stuck at Small status, as we can't get to Medium anytime soon with the ratings, yet the ratings are too high for us to drop to Tiny status. So Small it is, at least for now. That's ok, I don't care, because I have big, big plans for the company.

6 matches on the card. 5 title matches, and a match to decide who wrestles for a title. If people want to predict, great, but if nobody does, i'll just keep running through shows like I have been lately. I won't run this show before Monday though.

NXT Takeover: Oregon

Saturday, Week 4, September 2020

PK Park - Eugene, OR

Show Attendance: 2,855

Show Announcers: Mauro Ranallo and Don Callis

The show opened with Triple H and William Regal discussing the NXT ranking system. All titles will have rankings. There will be 3 way elimination matches in which the winner gets 3 points, the runner-up 2 points, and the first eliminated gets 1 point. Randomly drawn, once everybody in a ranking group has had 1 match, the rules will be that nobody can be involved in more than 2 ranking matches in a row. Every so often, there will be title matches involving the #1 contender. Other rules to follow. Groups have already been drawn, first ranking contest will last through the end of the year. From there, competitions will be every 6 months. Promotion, demotion, released from company, moves to SCW, all part of it. More rules to follow, groups have been randomly drawn.

Tessa Blanchard vs. Miranda Gordy - Winner to compete for NXT Womens Title later in show

It looked like the fingerpoke of doom was going to decide this match, as Gordy and Blanchard shook hands, and Gordy laid down in the center of the ring. But wait... it wouldn't be that easy. As Blanchard went for the pin, Gordy rolled her up quickly, getting a 2 count. From there, the ladies of 2nd Generation battled, but the experience of Blanchard was too much, as she went on to get the victory!

Winner: Tessa Blanchard

The Coach caught up with The BroserWeights backstage, getting their opinion on the NXT ranking system. Matt Riddle commented that while it was great teaming with Pete Dunne, he wanted singles gold. Dunne agreed, and The BroserWeights decided to split up to take their chances at singles gold, entertaining the idea of getting back together in the Tag Team division at a later date.

NXT North American Title Match

Joaquin Wilde © vs. Joe Hennig

Wilde, the former DJZ in Impact, used his quickness to his advantage, constantly frustrating Hennig. The 2nd Generation Superstar could never really get an advantage. Wilde was a surprise winner in the NXT North American Title Tournament, but he proved that he was a worthy champion, getting a big victory, winning the first one for NXT!

Winner and still NXT North American Champion: Joaquin Wilde

NXT Cruiserweight Title Match

Tyler Breeze © vs. Brian Pillman Jr.

Another surprise champion, but Pillman Jr. was not to be taken lightly in this one. His father was one of this best lightweights of all time, and Pillman Jr. showed why he was a chip off the old block. Breeze could have taken the match a little more serious, doing a little too much dancing. Pillman was all business, and it resulted in our first title change of the night.

Winner and NEW NXT Cruiserweight Champion: Brian Pillman Jr.

After the match, Pillman Jr. celebrated in the ring, getting a big win for 2nd Generation.

Backstage, Harry Smith and Joe Hennig were celebrating Pillman Jr.'s title victory, when they heard Miranda Gordy and Tessa Blanchard having a heated argument in the next dressing room. Along with Rachael Ellering, Smith and Hennig broke things up, reminding Blanchard and Gordy that they were on the same side, and that the 2 ladies needed to work together because a title victory for Blanchard meant one step closer to total domination.

NXT Tag Team Title Match

#DIY © vs. The Von Erichs

Nobody can deny that the Von Erichs are one of the best wrestling families in the world, and Ross and Marshall Von Erich are future stars... but they aren't there yet. #DIY controlled the match with superior tag team wrestling, and defended their titles rather easily.

Winners and still NXT Tag Team Champions: #DIY

NXT Womens Title Match

Santana Garrett © vs. Tessa Blanchard w/Rachael Ellering

Blanchard, being one of the best female wrestlers in the world, really used that confidence to her advantage, and it looked like we were going to have yet another title change. It looked even more troubling for Garrett when Gordy came to the ring. Gordy seemed to be in full support of Blanchard, and it looked like Gordy and Ellering were concocting a plan to interfere. Ellering distracted the official, and Gordy jumped up on the ring apron. All seemed to be going to plan until Gordy did the unthinkable.. blasting Blanchard in the back of the head with a huge forearm! Ellering was oblivious to what was going on, as Garrett hit Blanchard with a shining star press to retain the title, as Gordy looked very pleased at what she had done!

Winner and still NXT Womens Champion: Santana Garrett

Backstage, HBK caught up with Ryback to give him a few words of encouragement. HBK told Ryback that while the other titles mattered, it was very important for NXT to keep a tight grasp on the NXT Title. He told Ryback to go win this one for NXT!

NXT Title Match

Ryback © vs. Harry Smith

Both men really tried to use their power, and it was a very open match, with both men having a share of the advantage. Lots of near falls in the match, and it looked like Ryback was going to run out of steam. He had just enough left though, getting one last burst of energy to hit a big finishing move and keep the NXT Title in the camp of NXT, finishing off a very good show!

Winner and still NXT Champion: Ryback

NXT Takeover: Oregon - Post Show Comments

This will be my new writing style going forward, for shows and events. I decided that I'm not even going to look at the ratings anymore, because I just don't care. I'm more about the booking, telling my stories. Unless someone specifically wants to see the rankings, I will stop including the quick recaps.

Having Santana Garrett go over Tessa Blanchard was literally a last minute decision. With me needing to create storylines, I thought a jealous storyline between Blanchard and Gordy would be a good women's storyline. Pillman Jr. going over Tyler Breeze was a given. Pillman Jr. is a future star. While Ryback isn't the idle champion, I wanted 2nd Generation to remain the hunters, not the hunted. I have plans for a Joaquin Wilde storyline.

I'm still looking to hire a tag team, a cruiserweight, and one wrestler for the NXT Title ranking group. I've also decided to have NXT Unleashed be on Wednesday nights. It'll be a 1 hour show. It just makes more sense to have it first in the week, then have NXT Spotlight on Thursday, which will be a 2 hour show.

Prediction Contest Rankings

NXT Takeover: Oregon

#1- vladjarca - 4 points

#2- dukka- 3 points

I appreciate that dukka predicted a draw in the #DIY vs. Von Erichs match. I thought about giving him 1/2 point for that, but then I figured I'd have to give 1/2 point every time someone predicted a draw, and that would be a slippery slope.

Overall

#1- vladjarca- 17 points

#2- dukka- 3 points

#3- fight kyle fight - 1 point

I'm still hoping to get more people predicting, but if not, we'll go with what we have, and I'll change my prizes a bit.

It would be nice if you'd show us the rankings once every 2 or 3 months, or at the end of each month.

Fun dynasty, bruh ;)

As far as the title rankings, I will show them frequently, probably once a month.

What I don't plan on revealing anymore are ratings, match and segment ratings and final show ratings. I'm going to leave those out so that way I don't focus on them so much
