The Great American Bash opens to a shot backstage of a long black limo arriving at the back of the Baltimore Arena. The doors open and it is Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Syxxx, Macho Man, Elizabeth & Konnan of the nWo. They walk towards the doors excited about this "big night" but just before they walk in, Kevin stops the group. Kevin looks at Konnan and askes, "K-Dawg, is everything ready?" Konnan confirms that all is set and they all do the 2 Sweet gesture before walking into the building.

We go directly into the building where the Baltimore Arena comes to life as pyro explodes and The Great American Bash is on the air.

We cut to Tony, Bobby & Dusty who review what we just saw. The nWo apparently has a plan here tonight? What could that plan be? Bobby speculates that it could be a new member and that he is not comfortable being out here. This is where the nWo fired their first real shot against us two years ago. Dusty and Tony calm Bobby down and say that they will be protected and then hype up the main event here tonight of Sting vs Kevin Nash. Also tonight: Chris Jericho, Booker T & the Hitman Bret Hart will battle Scott Hall, Randy Savage and Syxxx in our co main event. We also have every other championship in WCW up for grabs tonight. But, let’s go to Mean Gene Okerlund who is in the aisle.

Mean Gene is in the aisle and welcomes to Baltimore - Sensuous Sherri!! Sherri comes out smiling and hugs Gene Okerlund as he says it is great to see her. Gene notes that Sherri has been in the stands lately and so, he invited her to Baltimore to ask her specifically what is going on? She hasn’t been around for a year. Sherri says that quite frankly her demons cost her her job here in WCW. She spent a lot of time getting her mind and body right and to come to terms with what happened. And during that time, an old friend reached out to her and ignited a flame within her. And they both were changed for it. Sherri announces that she’s in love and that she is trying to convince her true love to come to World Championship Wrestling. If that day comes, WCW will see her once more. Sherri hugs Gene again and he escorts her to ringside where she takes her seat as an audience member here tonight as we go to the opening contest here at The Great American Bash!

SUPER CRAZY AND JERRY LYNN VS PSYCHOSIS AND JUVENTUD GUERERRA

This match is your standard crazy Lucha match that gets the crowd into the show. Both teams are flying around everywhere and one great spot is where Psychosis does a somersault cannonball off the top into everyone else standing on the outside. The announcers put over that the winner of this match could stand as a possible challenger to the Cruiserweight Title. And that winner is Super Crazy who nails a Crazy Bomb on Psychosis for the 1...2...3.

The second the door is shut, Goldberg jumps at Adams and nails a Spear. From there Goldberg is on Adams with heavy slams. But when Goldberg charges for another Spear, Adams sidesteps the champion and Goldberg’s head nails the cage. Adams sees his chance and delivers a knee to a groggy Goldberg’s head before hitting a boot that brings Goldberg down. 1...2...Goldberg kicks out. After slamming Goldberg’s head into the cage several more times, Adams goes to hit the Heart Punch, but Goldberg breaks free and uses his hand to catch Adams’ fist in mid punch. Adams looks scared to death as Goldberg whips him into the ropes and nails another spine crunching Spear. From there Goldberg hits the Jackhammer without ever needing to use the cage as a weapon. 1...2...3.

After the match, the cage lifts and Goldberg stands on the top rope celebrating. Looking down at a vanquished Brian Adams who has skirted to the floor, Goldberg raises his TV title high in the air.

In the back Mean Gene is with the challenger to the WCW Cruiserweight Title, Dean Malenko. Dean speaks about his long friendship and rivalry with Rey Mysterio and said that Dean has always known that Rey was a man with integrity. But right now, he has doubts. Dean knows Eddie put him in an impossible situation and Rey is trying to honor the commitment that he made, but sometimes a man has to stand up. Tonight, Rey has a chance to remember who he is and stand up and make sure this match is fair and square. And if he does that, the Man of 1,000 Holds will make Eddie squeal like the child he is and take back the Cruiserweight Title.

The Steiners accuse both G.T.T. and Davey Boy & Anvil before the bell even sounds and soon there is a bunch of shoving and pushing and Rick Steiner does a Steinerline on Hughes. The ref finally restores order and the bell sounds to start the match and its Neidhart & LoMonaco as things turn into a brawl. All three teams trade near falls but the ref has a hard time keeping things in order. Eventually G.T.T takes control and nails a Death Drop to Davey Boy but the Steiners break up a pin. The brawl happens again and in the chaos, Anvil sends LoMonaco into his partner, Hughes sending both men to the floor. When Anvil turns around he is met with a Steiner Screwdriver by Scotty for the 1...2...3.

We get a replay of The Anvil sending LoMonaco into Hughes before turning around and getting nailed by a Steiner Screwdriver by Scott Steiner for the pinfall. The Steiners then celebrate their win to the chagrin of G.T.T who were never defeated.

A commercial airs for WCW Monday Nitro: The Clash of the Champions airs. The special edition of Nitro will take place on Monday Week 4 July, 1998 from the Greensboro Coliseum, in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Right out the gate Malenko goes after Eddie who bails to the floor and literally uses Rey Mysterio as a shield, mocking Dean. From there the match becomes an example of Eddie’s words last Monday being prophetic as every time Dean gets close to a victory, Chavo distracts the ref. Finally, the ref has had enough and ejects Chavo from ringside and Dean begins his comeback nailing a Gutbuster Bomb from the top rope for a close near fall. After trading some back and forth wrestling moves, Dean locks in the Texas Cloverleaf, but Eddie is close enough to the ropes to reach out and break the hold. Dean charges Eddie in the corner, but Guerrero pulls the ref in the middle sandwiching him. Eddie then kicks Dean low and orders Rey to grab the Cruiserweight belt. Rey does as he is told and then gets into the ring. Eddie holds Dean up and orders Rey to nail his friend. Rey swings back but Dean drops down to the mat. Eddie looks down at Dean and then looks up as Rey follows through with the swinging. Eddie is out cold as Dean covers and the ref awakens in time to count the 1...2...3 while an emotionless Rey Mysterio watches. New Champion.

After the match, Dean celebrates with the title but Rey looks regretful like he made a mistake. After Dean leaves, Eddie comes to and berates Rey for “screwing up”. Rey, with his head down, walks away while Eddie chases after him yelling at Rey. The announcers wonder if Rey’s “mistake” was intentional.

BRET HART, CHRIS JERICHO, AND BOOKER T VS SCOTT HALL, SYXXX, AND RANDY SAVAGE W/ELIZABETH

For most of the match, it is surprisingly a wrestling contest. One where the nWo show their experience as a unit. Syxxx is highlighted as the nWo cut off Booker from his partners and take turns beating him down. But Booker’s heart is on full display as he fights back against a triple team situation and makes it to the Hitman who cleans house before he too is taken down by the gang. Jericho won’t let the leader of their team be beaten and when Scott Hall goes for a Outsiders Edge on Bret, Jericho runs up behind and kicks Hall hard in the quad. This allows Bret time to get to make the hot tag to Jericho. Jericho holds his own before Savage nails Jericho from behind with a clothesline. Soon, the nWo is back in control. And this continues until abroad happens just as Syxxx is about to lock in the Buzzkill. Booker ends up clotheslining Savage to the floor. Jericho is able to reverse around the Buzzkill and go for the Liontamer. Syxxx is about to tap out when Hall makes it back into the ring but he is intercepted by Bret who pounds away at Scott in a corner. With no help coming, Syxxx is forced to surrender.

After the match as team WCW celebrates their win, Konnan comes out with a chair and nails Booker T from behind. Soon the remaining members of the nWo attack Hart, Booker & Jericho in a pack mentality beating down the babyfaces until refs and police race to the ring to break things up. The nWo lost in this match, but it is team WCW that suffered the most as all three men look beaten to a pulp.

We go to a video package of the six month issue between Raven and Diamond Dallas Page. The video centers around Page’s desire to bring back “Scott Levy” instead of Raven and the stipulation that this match is a regular match for the US Title. No Raven’s Rules.

As promised and true to the rules, this match begins as a typical wrestling match. But when things get hairy, Raven tries to get himself disqualified by shoving the referee. The ref is obviously wise to this and refuses to dq Raven. Page and Raven engage in a back and forth match from this moment on with both scoring close falls. Raven shows true wrestling ability and even locks Page in a nerve hold. When Raven goes for the Evenflow DDT, Page is able reverse it into a spinebuster. Page signals for a Diamond Cutter but Raven hits Page from behind and Raven goes to the top. DDP crotches Raven. Flips the legs over the ropes so Raven is sitting on the turnbuckle and puts him in the reverse headlock to deliver a standing cutter.

But raven holds onto the ropes and DDP takes that couple steps holding onto thin air. When DDP turns around, Raven leaps and hits a sunset flip off the second rope to get the surprise pin. 1...2...3.

After the match, DDP looks stunned that he lost. The announcers put over that Scott Levy, the wrestler, did indeed show up and that he was better than Diamond Dallas Page tonight. Raven almost shows emotion at his win before he kisses his Woman and they walk over to the Nest who opens the ringside barrier and follows behind Raven as he walks away the victor.

We go to the announce booth where Tony, Dusty & Bobby tell us that it is now time for the main event. We see Michael Buffer coming down the aisle as the announcers throw us to a video package of Sting vs Kevin Nash.

It starts at Starrcade where Sting won the World Title from Hollywood Hogan, shows Kevin Nash declaring that he is the leader of the nWo and the Wolfpac being formed. We see Nash win the Golden Ticket opportunity and tease through the spring that he would cash in before announcing this match would happen at the Great American Bash. From there the video shows Sting’s moments at the GAB as well as the nWo’s first big shot fired against WCW two years ago at the Great American Bash and the story of the mind games between Sting and Nash the last few weeks. Finally we are here and it's for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.

First, Kevin Nash who is accompanied by the entire nWo. Nash looks supremely confident as do all his comrades.

Next is the WCW World Heavyweight Champion, Sting. Sting looks focused as he steps into the ring. His demeanor is serious as opposed to Nash who is very loose and joking around. Referee Randy Anderson asks both men to approach the middle of the ring. As Nash approaches he suddenly launches a big boot into Sting’s face. The Champion is floored as the nWo jump on him like, well, a pack of wolves. Sting is picked up to his feet by Konnan and Savage and Nash delivers not one, but two Jackknife powerbombs. Sting is in a crumpled heap in the ring as the nWo plays to the crowd.

JJ Dillon and other officials come to the ring and begin attending to Sting. Dillon tells Nash he’s blown his shot and the match is cancelled.. Nash just smiles as another voice we haven’t heard in six months sounds off.

Eric Bischoff marches down to the ring and tells Dillon he’s not in charge here tonight because, Hail to the Chief, the President of WCW is back! He brings Randy Anderson over to the corner in which Michael Buffer has been standing and watching all of this. Bischoff explains to Anderson that the match is still on but that Kevin Nash is not the challenger. He says that the title shot belongs to the nWo and THEY decide who will represent them. Anderson looks a little unsure but he’s not going to argue with his boss. Bischoff smiles and motions to the stage.

The crowd and announcers are both stunned as Hollywood Hulk Hogan parades down to the ring. On his way down Konnan, Savage and Syxx begin stomping Sting again. Hogan enters the ring giving the 2-Sweet gesture to Nash and Hall, before hugging Bischoff. Bischoff then tells Buffer their challenger has arrived!</div>

Sting is still in a crumpled heap as Bischoff yells at Anderson to ring the bell starting the match. Anderson finally does so just as Sting tries to stand. The moment the bell sounds Hogan is beating the hell out of the challenger before slamming Sting hard to the mat. Hogan bounces off the ropes and delivers the Leg Drop but he won’t cover. Hogan mockingly pretends to “Hulk Up” and goes off the ropes again and drops another Leg Drop. Hogan covers as Bischoff screams at Randy Anderson to count. 1….2….3.

WINNER BY PINFALL AND NEW WCW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION: HOLLYWOOD HULK HOGAN

After the match, the announcers are so disgusted at this “six month set up” that we can hear them throw down their headsets in disgust and leave the announce booth leaving dead air while Hogan plays to the crowd as the entire nWo floods the ring in celebration. Bischoff produces spray paint and Nash holds the belt for Hogan to spray paint once again with “nWo” on it.

Hollywood Hogan raises the “nWo World Heavyweight Title” belt to the ceiling while the Baltimore crowd throws trash into the ring as The Great American Bash goes off the air.

What a swerve! I thought for sure the nWo was going to evolve into the Wolfpac, but Hogan came out of nowhere. Interested to see who Sherri brings to WCW.

Holy shit that is the swerve of a lifetime. I fully expecting Nash to walk out with the belt and be cemenred as the top heel with Hogan gone for good. I now not to trust anything coming from Mean Gene.

Thanks, guys! This has been the plan since day one of this diary (and was terrified I wouldn’t be able to pull it off). And it is part of a larger story arc for Hogan and the nWo that will play out to the final six months of 1998 and possibly beyond.

WCW Monday Nitro opens up to a long black limousine arriving outside the Nassau Coliseum. When the limo pulls up, it just sits there. No one gets out. Tony Schiavone speculates that Hollywood Hogan, the new WCW World Heavyweight Champion, is in that limo.

The pyro explodes as the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island comes to life. WCW Monday Nitro is on the air and we come to you in the shadow of New York City twenty four hours removed from the most shocking event in the history of World Championship Wrestling. Hollywood Hogan, yes you heard that right, is the WCW World Heavyweight Champion after an elaborate plot by the New World Order that was six months in the making. Later on tonight we will show what went down last night in Baltimore as the nWo set up Sting, set up WCW and stole the World Title back. And in our main event, The Hitman Bret Hart will seek to get a measure of revenge against the nWo when he takes on Konnan. We will also talk about a special edition of WCW Monday Nitro - the Clash of the Champions, later in this program. We have a new WCW Cruiserweight Champion in Dean Malenko when Rey Mysterio, apparently broke with La Familia. Eddie Guerrero will be here to address that but let's go to the ring for our opening contest on Nitro.

JUVENTUD GUERERRA VS BLITZKRIEG

Pretty spectacular Cruiserweight bout to open Nitro as both men take to the sky with some crazy flips onto the floor and in the ring. Blitzkrieg actually fares well early on but Juventud nails a Brainbuster on Blitzkrieg that drops him right on his head and that seals Blitzkrieg’s fate. Soon, Juventud goes up top and nails a 450 Splash that is so powerful, it nearly hurts Juvie. A quick cover and it’s all over.

At the Clash of the Champions, how about The Steiners Brothers versus Davey Boy & The Anvil for the WCW Tag Team Titles. Mean Gene puts over the challenge and says we will be right back on TNT.

Nitro returns to the Nitro girls in the crowd doing a routine that ends with Chae sitting on the lap of a lucky fan and giving him a hug.

The announcers show still photos from last night at The Great American Bash where Goldberg defeated Brian Adams. We are told that next week, Goldberg will return to Nitro to defend his championship against Reese from the Nest which represents the biggest challenge, literally, that Goldberg has faced yet.

Brian Adams is in the ring beginning to cut a promo about how he lost to Goldberg last night and attempting to make an excuse when Chris Jericho comes down with a microphone slow clapping. Jericho mocks Adams “great showing” last night before then pointing out that Adams may have been a loser at The Bash, but Chris Jericho and team WCW were winners. Adams pushes and shoves Jericho and challenges him for right now, Jericho agrees, a ref runs in and the match is on.

Adams is angry and beats the hell out of Jericho for a good portion of this match, but Adams’ arrogance costs him when Adams goes for an arrogant cover by putting his foot on Jericho’s chest after a powerbomb. Jericho grabs Adams by the leg and turns it into a Liontamer. Adams is able to power out and the two share some back and forth action before Adams goes for the Heart Punch, but again Jericho catches Adams by reversing it into a small package and Jericho hooks a rope with his arm as the ref counts 1...2...3.

Ric says that Raven and Woman’s issues with Benoit and the Horsemen are not dead and when The Crippler returns, these issues will be dealt with. But tonight? Tonight is about righting wrongs. And there was a travesty that happened last night. A setup that was clearly six months in the making and the set up took out WCW’s biggest hero. Now the Nature Boy and the Stinger have a complicated history, but what happened last night was bs and someone needs to set things straight. In the entirety of this company there have been two constant names….Sting….and Ric Flair. So, Hogan wherever you are right now - hear this: The Nature Boy is calling you out. EDDIE GUERRERO W/CHAVO GUERRERO JR. AND REY MYSTERIO JR. VS Jamie Noble

The announcers tell us that Jamie Noble is one of the future stars of WCW signed to WCW Mid Atlantic and Noble probably wishes that he stayed down in the Carolinas because he met with a furious Eddie Guerrero who just brutalizes the kid. Eddie delivers vicious chops and ferocious suplexes across the ring just sending a message of anger. Finally, Eddie nails a Frog Splash for the emphatic victory.

After the match, Eddie orders Chavo to dispose of his opponent and hand him a microphone. Eddie berates Rey for last night accusing Rey of setting him up and breaking with La Familia and breaking his word. Rey just looks at the mat not meeting Eddie’s eyes until Eddie screams “look at me”. Rey looks up and glares before saying “it was an accident”. Eddie refuses to believe Rey and tells him to get out of his sight. Rey walks away while the announcers put over how humiliating this is. Eddie then challenges Dean for The Clash of the Champions for his rematch before storming off.

The announcers are prepared to show us what happened last night in the main event, but we quickly cut to a live scene and it's the parking lot where the long black limo is still there only the doors have been opened. The announcers tell us not to go anywhere, when we come back, Hour # 2 will kick off and we may find out who is in that limo.

Kevin Nash leads Savage, Konnan, Syxxx, Hall, Elizabeth and Eric Bischoff bringing up the rear to the ring. Everyone is high fiving and in good spirits as they enter. Nash says that now everyone knows what has been up. Keeping that secret was so hard to do, but the reveal has been 2 Sweet! So Stinger got played, you all got played and WCW got fooled yet again by the n...W….o. But the mastermind behind the whole thing has been the champ. So.. E come over here and bring our leader out.

Eric grabs the mic and hugs Kevin. Bischoff looks euphoric as he says “ladies and gentlemen….the leader of the New World Order...the man that IS professional wrestling….the nWo Heavyweight Champion of the world….Hollywood Hogan!!!!”

Hogan comes out and as he does a huge amount of pyro goes off. Black and white confetti fall from the ceiling all over the crowd and fills the ring as Hogan soaks it all in. He gets into the ring and high fives his partners before raising the belt high above his head and races around the ring running in a big circle. Once Hogan stands in the ring, the black and white balloons fall down and fill the ring in gigantic celebration.

Hogan gets on the mic and says ‘he’s not normally one for saying I told you so but….’ before laughing again. Hogan says the nWo once again proved how smart they are and how stupid WCW is. Everything that has happened since Starrcade has been because the nWo planned it. Sting is just the latest in a long line of so called icons that Hollywood has put down and now old man winter, Ric Flair, wants another shot? Hollywood isn’t interested in a hasbeen, he’s looking towards the future of the nWo and that means making sure this title doesn’t go anywhere for a long, long time!

The music plays again as the members all celebrate. Schiavone, clearly disgusted, tells us that after the break we’ll see the United States Champion, Raven in action. Don’t go anywhere.

Nitro returns to still photos of last night at The Great American Bash where Diamond Dallas Page was defeated by Raven in a one-on-one match with no interference. We are told that next week on Nitro, DDP will sit down with Tony Schiavone for an intimate one-on-one interview about what is next for Page after losing the war with Raven.

As soon as the match begins, Stevie Richards tries to enter the ring and Hennig decks him. That allows Raven the distraction he needs to nail Hennig from behind and start working on Curt’s well documented neck injury. After some near falls, Raven goes for the Evenflow but Curt backdrops him over the ropes to the floor. Curt goes up top and does a crossbody from the top of the rope to the floor and then decks Richards again as the Nest begin to stir like they’re gonna come into the match until Woman holds her hand up saying Raven is fine. She goes and checks on her man and appears to slip him something. Back into the ring, Raven swings but Curt ducks and nails the Hennig-plex. 1...2…..Woman put Raven’s foot on the ropes. Curt goes and yells at her and while that is happening, we see Raven slip on a pair of knucks that Woman handed him and when Curt comes over, Raven decks him while Woman distracts the ref. Raven picks up an unconscious Curt and nails the Evenflow DDT for the 3 count.

After the match, Raven gets on the microphone and says that as Page requested last night - “Scotty” showed up. And “Scotty” beat Dallas’ ass and sent him home. Raven says that there are no split personalities here, like Jim Morrison before him, Raven knows that there are things known and things unknown. And Raven knows who he is and who he isn’t. So Page is gone because he was not willing to have his soul cleansed. The Nest is now looking for another lost one to save here in WCW. Come to us, for Raven feels your pain and is your salvation. Instead of Raven, it’s Woman who says the tagline “Quote the Raven, Nevermore”. Raven and Woman hold hands as they go to their Nest in the crowd and everyone parts while they walk away into the crowd.

Nitro returns to a collection of still photos from the various matches last night with the headlining match being the World Heavyweight Title. Underneath the photos is a lower third to remind everyone to buy the replay of The Great American Bash now.

DEAN MALENKO, JERRY LYNN, AND SUPER CRAZY VS HECTOR GARZA, LA PARKA, AND PSYCHOSIS

Wild and crazy Six Man Cruiser match with a lot of high spots and flips including Psychosis and La Parka doing tandem moonsaults from two corners to everyone on the floor. But the star of this match, beyond the Cruiserweight Champion, is Super Crazy. Super Crazy really controls a lot of this match before the heels take over. Eventually Crazy is able to tag the champion who cleans house and goes for a Texas Cloverleaf on Hector Garza but Psychosis kicks him in the head and a wild six man brawl happens. In the chaos, La Parka brings in a chair to hit Malenko, but Super Crazy saves Malenko and Malenko nails Psychosis with a Powerbomb into a bridge for the pinfall.

After the match, Malenko gets on the mic and says that any of these men that he teamed with just now or the ones they just beat deserve a shot at this title. The Cruiserweight Title is going to become the premiere title in the wrestling world and if Eddie Guerrero wants to whine and complain and demand a rematch in four weeks...all he had to do was ask. Dean accepts but his two partners look like they wanted the title too.

In the back we see Bret Hart walking down the aisle toward the ring when Mean Gene stops him. Gene asks Bret what are Hitman’s thoughts on what the nWo did last night to Sting? Bret says he is disgusted but not shocked. If anyone is surprised, then they have not been paying attention. WCW is about more than just one man though, Bret is here. He is fighting this war too. And in just a moment, that war will have another battle. Konnan is about to be Excellently Executed. Gene tells us not to go anywhere, our featured contest is next on Nitro.

BRET HART VS KONNAN

It is not surprising that Bret Hart would work a scientific style, it is a surprise that Konnan would but that is exactly how a large part of this match ends up being. Both men end up trading numerous scientific holds including submission efforts. Konnan nearly scores a submission victory when he takes a Half Boston Crab and yanks back very far that has Bret in a ton of pain. The Hitman is able to battle back into things and hit a elbow drop off the second rope as well as a Side Russian Leg Sweep for a two count. When Konnan goes for the Gory Special, Bret leans forward and grabs Konnan’s left leg, tripping him before grabbing the other leg and locking in a Sharpshooter. Konnan tries to fight it off but once it is locked in, he has no choice but to submit.

WINNER BY SUBMISSION: BRET HART

Just as Konnan taps, Syxxx runs in and kicks Bret in the head. The entire nWo flood the ring and starts beating up on Bret even though the Hitman holds his own until Hogan gets in and blasts Bret from behind with the belt.

As Hogan is taunting Bret, the crowd comes alive as Ric Flair comes sprinting down the aisle with Arn right behind him and Ric has a tire iron in his hand. Ric goes right for Hogan and jumps on his back. Nash pulls Ric off and Ric swings the iron connecting Nash in the gut with it. Bret is back up and joins in the melee, also going for Hogan. Arn hands Bret a tire iron as well. Finally Bischoff pulls Hollywood out of the scrum as Flair and Bret, weapons in hand, hold off the nWo.

Both men are screaming that they want Hogan while the champion backs up the aisle clutching his belt for dear life. Bret and Ric stare uneasily at each other but they are holding the ring as WCW Monday Nitro goes off the air.
