[CVERSE] QAW: The New Standard

Recommended Posts

vmYUkfb.jpg

Formed in July 2010, Queens of American Wrestling is Farrah Hesketh's dream. Combining the best of American style professional wrestling with that of the famed luchadoras of Mexico developed a rapid fanbase in Texas.

Seen as a new take on women's wrestling in the USA, QAW became the new flag bearers in 2017 when their closest rivals Angel Athletic Association closed their doors for the final time.

Jillian Jarvis (2013 - 2018) - Emma May (2018) - Marie Punnen (2018 - 2019)

The longest running threat in QAW, Ronin 3 are rapidly reaching the seventh year of their combined reign of terror in Texas. Originally consisting of Jillian Jarvis, Toni Parissi and Juana Huracan backed by the self proclaimed “Super Agent” Vinny Cruz, the trio took no prisoners and stood tall at the top of the QAW mountain – Jillian Jarvis' five reigns with the QAW World title still unmatched even with her departure from the company in 2018.

Cracks formed in the original line up with the development of Juana Huracan's conscience throughout 2018. Eventually kicked out in the summer of 2018 for refusing to break the leg of one of Ronin's biggest enemies Danielle Sweetheart which left a spot open in Ronin 3...a spot filled by the loud mouthed breaker of limbs Emma May. Jarvis' departure from the company following a Loser Leaves QAW match to the now renamed Juana Hurricane was swiftly filled in shocking fashion by the defection of Foxxy LaRue in November 2018.

Moulding the faction into her own image in record time, Foxxy kicked Emma May out of Ronin 3 just a month after assuming the leadership role in the faction, replacing Emma May with Foxxy's protege Marie Punnen – a relationship that crumbled in September 2019 when Punnen betrayed Ronin 3 to join Emma May's Furies. Now consisting of Foxxy, Toni Parissi and Vinny Cruz's newest find Becca Barton, Ronin 3 are set for another year of running riot over QAW.

Juana Hurricane (2018 - Present) - Alexis Lee Littlefeather (2018 - Present) - Sonnaz Shah (2018 - Present)

Formed by former Ronin 3 member Juana Hurricane – Juana understanding the importance in having like minded people in her corner – Storm Front quickly stood up to Ronin 3 as the premier force for good in QAW. Not the most popular woman in the locker room despite her months of atonement for her actions as part of Ronin 3, it came as a surprise to QAW fans when Alexis Lee Littlefeather and Sonnaz Shah stormed the ring at QAW Crowning The Queen 2018 to fend off Juana's former stablemates.

Staying together as a faction long after the initial Ronin 3 war ended, the faction has taken a backseat to The Line lately as the defenders of QAW – Juana and Ashley Grover still butting heads years later on from Grover's first run in QAW.

Hellcat Hernandez (2018 - Present) - Ava Anderson & Lily Snyder (2018 - Present) - Felicia Luck (2019 - Present)

Hellcat Hernandez has never been the most popular person in QAW, The Clenched Fist's formation in August 2018 was one of the major talking points of QAW's transformative summer in 2018. The Clenched Fist originally was a trio who debuted as a group taking part in a gang style beatdown of Hellcat's then current tag team partner Pamela Rojo after Pamela's upset win over Hellcat to claim the QAW Shockwave title. The addition of Felicia Luck in 2019 hasn't made the group any less dangerous and the goals of the group stay the same - brutalise anyone who stands in their way.

Current Line Up

Ashley Grover (2019 - Present) - Houston Handley & Teresa Perez (2019 - Present)

Ashley Grover's path in QAW is one of many ups and downs. Originally just another wrestler trying to break out of the pack, her departure in the summer of 2014 seemingly came under a bad light with her name being all but consigned to an early part of QAW's history...

...until her mentor Farrah Hesketh brought her back as Farrah's secret weapon against Ronin 3 in an emotional return at QAW Big City Breakdown 2019. Taking the time to explain that she had been struggling with alcohol addiction and that it was Farrah's intervention that same summer in 2014 that put her on the path to recovery, Ashley had finally returned “home” to repay the favour. Joining up with perennial fan favourites Houston Handley and Teresa Perez, The Line has taken over from Storm Front as the first line of defence against Ronin 3 with the two units locking heads almost constantly since Ashley's return.

Emma May (2019 - Present) - Honey Badger & Marie Punnen (2019 - Present)

Brash, arrogant, undeniably talented. Four words used to describe Emma May since her debut in QAW in 2015. A loose cannon in every sense upon her debut, Emma made her name in Texas by injuring countless opponents with her feared kimura hold – a streak that lasted months before she was stopped in her tracks by Alina America.

Dangerous through and through, Emma May was head hunted by Ronin 3's “Super Agent” Vinny Cruz to join the faction upon Juana Huracan's removal. Seemingly a good fit for the group, Emma's time was cut short by Foxxy LaRue who replaced Emma with Foxxy's protege Marie Punnen after just a month. Swearing revenge ever since, the revenge came in the shape of The Furies' forming in August 2019 – Emma May coaxing the dangerous Honey Badger to join her and convincing her replacement in Ronin 3 Marie Punnen to turn her back on the faction for fame and fortune....fame and fortune that came swiftly as Honey Badger and Marie won the QAW Tag Team titles in September 2019.

Now locked in a three way feud with fan favourite Danielle Sweetheart and her first nemesis Alina America, Emma May and The Furies are out for blood and gold in QAW.

QAW Starshow 2020 Run Down

The Queens of American Wrestling are set to kick off 2020 with another blockbuster show in Austin.

The leader of The Furies Emma May finally gets her shot at Alina America's Queens of American Wrestling World title, the champion at a rare disadvantage no thanks to the presence of the always vicious Honey Badger and Marie Punnen seconding the challenger.

The battle rages on as the leaders of Ronin 3 and The Line square off in what is sure to be an ugly contest, Foxxy LaRue determined to put Ashley Grover "back in her place" whilst Grover fits to eradicate Ronin 3 from QAW's history books once and for all!

The always...cheerful Little Miss Perfect puts her Queens of American Wrestling Shockwave title on the line against the only woman to have put an end to Little Miss Perfect's frequent boasts, the Californian prodigy Modesty Pador - a title match earned by Modesty Pador pinning Little Miss Perfect at last month's Three Way Dance Christmas Gift match.

All this and much more when QAW comes to Austin, Texas!

Ava Anderson & Lily Snyder vs Coco Malloy & Izzy Quick

The first match of the new year in QAW saw the experienced heads of Ava Anderson and Lily Snyder in no mood for a long match. Tearing the young San Diego Girls apart with ruthless efficiency, the match was one sided traffic until rare miscommunication between Ava & Lily in the seventh minute saw an opening for Coco Malloy to fly into the ring with a beautiful springboard dropkick to both women.

Regrouping quickly after, Coco was made to pay as she fell victim to the Rock and Roll (Total Elimination), Snyder rolling out of the ring after impact to keep Izzy Quick from making the save.

Becca Barton & Toni Parissi vs Mariana Torres & Pinky Perez

The second tag encounter of the night, the Ronin 3 duo attacked Torres and Perez before they had a chance to enter the ring – to the ire of QAW founder Farrah Hesketh on commentary.

A more brawl heavy encounter than the previous encounter, Torres and Perez were both on the backfoot without any counter in the early goings to Barton or Parissi. Weathering the storm, the lucha duo found their footing eventually with slick technical manoeuvres.

With the Ronin 3 pairing now outmatched, it wasn't long before Torres had snared Parissi into the Venus Fly Trap (Rolling Cross Armlock) for the submission victory.

Mariana Torres [W] & Pinky Perez defeated Becca Barton & Toni Parissi [L] in 12:17 via Venus Fly Trap.

Standing tall in the ring with their arms raised, Mariana Torres and Pinky Perez's moment in the spotlight was dampened by the arrival of their rivals Ava Anderson and Lily Snyder – flanked as always by junior Clenched Fist member Felicia Luck and their agent Boss Man Brayfield. The quartet stood by the entrance way, eyes locked on Torres and Perez – the Mexican duo bracing themselves in the ring for a fight....a fight that never came on this occasion.

QAW Shockwave Title Match

Little Miss Perfect © vs Modesty Pador

Overconfident as ever, Little Miss Perfect spent all of Modesty's entrance mocking her opponent for having “less than perfect gear, a less than perfect attitude, less than perfect wrestling skills and less than perfect everything” - Little Miss Perfect seemingly not learning her lesson from last month when this same mockery backfired on her.

Taking the fight straight to the champion, Modesty didn't hold back on her rival and had the excessively loud “Paragon of Perfection” tied up in a Paradise Lock within the first 30 seconds of the match – a position that gave both Modesty and referee Erin Lawrence a temporary break from the shrieks of LMP.

Red in the fact from her embarrassment, Little Miss Perfect switched on and a back and forth contest got going until Little Miss Perfect countered a small package by Modesty with one of her own – an added handful of Modesty's gear helping secure the win for the Shockwave champion.

Commandeering a microphone following her hand being raised in victory, Little Miss Perfect sat on the apron of the ring clutching her Shockwave title with one arm and let the Austin crowd know that they had witnessed Another Perfect Match by Little Miss Perfect. Celebrating her win like she'd won an Oscar, Little Miss Perfect was brought crashing down to earth by Farrah's loud reminder that next month she would be in the annual San Antonio Shockwave Scramble.

Juana Hurricane, Alexis Lee Littlefeather & Sonnaz Shah vs Raquel Alvarado, Honey Badger & Marie Punnen

A tale of two teams, the Storm Front trio looking every bit a well oiled machine as they made their way out to the ring whereas Raquel Alvarado looked to be at odds with both Honey Badger and Marie Punnen as they made their way out – Marie having to hold the Honey Badger back from snapping Raquel in half before they had even made it to the ring.

Raquel's obvious distrust for her teammates was the running theme of the contest. Any time The Furies gained momentum, Raquel would tag herself in and end up on the wrong side of Juana, Alexis or Sonnaz. Eventually tagging herself in one time too many, the QAW Tag Team champions left the apron and took the fight to Alexis and Sonnaz leaving the contest as a more traditional one on one encounter – a move that soon saw the end of the match as Juana locked Raquel in the Time-Square Lock (Texas Cloverleaf) just long enough for Raquel to tap out.

Danielle Sweetheart vs Hellcat Hernandez

A rematch from QAW American Lucha 2017, both Danielle Sweetheart and Hellcat Hernandez were different competitors from their clash nearly three years ago. The leader of the Clenched Fist stood alone for the contest, the rest of the group staying put in the back in the only show of respect Hellcat had for Danielle.

A slower paced match than the rest of the card so far, there was a lot of glancing strikes and lock ups between the two competitors to start off the match. Hellcat was the one to take th e advantage, getting in close to Danielle and taking the QAW Icon down to the mat. Raining down punches, Hellcat was forced to let Danielle up after Danielle made it to the ropes – Erin Lawrence stepping in between the Clenched Fist leader and her prey to ensure that the safety of the competitors was maintained.

From there the match kicked into a higher gear with each woman landing bigger and bigger blows. A blocked backfist was the opening Danielle needed to make serious headway in the match, kicking at Hellcat's knee to take her down to one knee. Following it up with a Super Kick to the temple of Hellcat, Sweetheart almost had the match won there had it not been for a very close 2.9 count. Dragging Hellcat to her feet, a second Super Kick connected square to the jaw and this time Hellcat was down for the three count.

Danielle Sweetheart defeated Hellcat Hernandez in 15:19 via a Super Kick.

Ashley Grover vs Foxxy LaRue

A much more personal grudge match was the semi main event of the show as the leaders of The Line and Ronin 3 respectively faced off, each woman seconded to the ring by their stablemates.

Foxxy would spend the first portion of the match taunting Ashley but keeping her distance, frustrating The Line and Farrah Hesketh at commentary in equal measure. Slipping in her focus when she turned to give instructions to her Ronin at ringside, Foxxy was caught with a big dropkick that sent her outside of the ring and from there the fight was on.

With each stable keeping their distance, Farrah and Ashley traded fists across the entire venue – only making it back into the ring on the count of 19. Foxxy immediately backed off when back in the ring, beckoning Erin Lawrence over on the pretence that she had tweaked her ankle in the brawling portion. With Erin's attention drawn to Foxxy, the Ronin plan sprung into action with Toni and Becca blindsiding Handley and Teresa at ringside – the surprise attack drawing the attention of Ashley Grover who made her way out with the intention of protecting her friends....

pYtAN6c.jpgpYtAN6c.jpg

….except she was attacked herself by two figures cloaked all in black who appeared from under the ring. Rolled back into the ring just in time for Foxxy to claim that her ankle was fine, the near unconscious Ashley was stood up only to be put straight back down by Foxxy with her Flash Head Kick (Spinning Roundhouse Kick)...Erin Lawrence counting the three count with a degree of scepticism visible as she counted.

Foxxy LaRue defeated Ashley Grover in 14:56 via a Flash Head Kick & interference.

Rating: 47

Cutting away from the carnage in the ring to a serene looking Emma May just outside of the venue, the challenger for the main event looked composed as she ran through the final stages of her warm up. Beckoning the camera man over, Emma spoke briefly on how she hadn't forgotten it was Alina who had handed Emma her first loss in QAW and this moment had been a long time coming. The ban on the Kimura lock was almost up and Alina's arm WILL be snapped but first, Emma is taking the QAW World title back to The Furies and proving Alina is nothing more than a fluke.

QAW World

Alina America © vs Emma May

A match with a lot of history involved, Alina America and Emma May are no strangers to each other in QAW as mentioned in Emma's pre match promo. Starting off tentatively with each woman testing the other, Emma's background in jiu-jitsu would quickly give the challenger the advantage – keeping Alina down on the mat with a variety of holds designed to frustrate the champion more than win the match in the early goings.

The fiery champion would soon gain ground, switching it around so it was Emma on the ground. Targeting Emma's arms, Alina went to work on neutralising the challenger as much as she could. Forced away from Emma by Erin Lawrence on the count of 4, Alina's frustrations began to creep into the match – same frustrations exploited by Emma May time and time again.

It would be Emma's own frustrations that cost her in the end, first teasing the Kimura hold that is banned in QAW until April 2020 – the stipulations laid in place at QAW Big City Breakdown 2015. Admonished by Erin Lawrence, Emma feigned ignorance and led Alina back up before rolling through into a Rear Naked Choke close to the ropes. Holding on long past the five count, Erin Lawrence had no option to call the match in favour of Alina America via DQ – the crowd unhappy at the rarely used call. Emma May didn't look too bothered though, stooping down to tell Alina that this was a warning shot and that she wants to beat Alina for the title with her Kimura.

Good to see I'm not entirely 100% predictable. :p The show suffered from a difference of where I want to go and the mechanics of it (two tainted finishes back to back but both leading into stories for the year), it'll get less dusty soon.

Apologies for the delay in the show going up. Got into a writing groove then Football Manager 21's beta dropped and that's where I've spent most of my time after finishing work each day. :p

Quick shoutout to White Dolphin's tremendous 5SSW work for the inspiration on how to lay out the matches. It's been a long long time since I've done anything closer to serious than comedy in my writing. I am aware that the image formatting isn't ideal with the placement of the VS image for matches with stable folk at ringside. I've been booking shows under the idea that members in stables in QAW will often second their stablemates at ringside unless there is a reason not to so I'm having them be there for the match graphics.

<strong>QAW San Antonio Invasion 2020 Run Down</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong><strong><span style="font-size:8px;">Written by Alfonso Garcia for QAW.com</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">Following on from the controversial QAW Starshow, Queens of American Wrestling roll into San Antonio for the annual invasion!</div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Two of the top prospects in QAW face off as "The Icon of QAW" Danielle Sweetheart goes one on one with Emma May in a match with big title implications. The last time these two faced off, it was Sweetheart who had her hand raised in victory.</div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The battle rages on as Ronin 3 square off with The Line in trios competition, The Line extra focused on their efforts against Ronin 3 following on from last month's Starshow - the big question on our minds is whether Foxxy LaRue's two new associates make themselves known for a second month?</div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The challenge was laid down last month by Storm Front for a shot at the QAW Tag Team titles. With Juana Hurricane sitting out to heal a minor ankle injury occurred in training, it's Alexis Lee Littlefeather and Sonnaz Shah who will be facing The Fury of Honey Badger & Marie Punnen for the QAW Tag Team titles.</div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Our return to San Antonio also means the return of the San Antonio Shockwave Scramble! Little Miss Perfect's Shockwave title is on the line against three of QAW's finest and two new faces to QAW - our Shockwave champion will be facing off against Coco Malloy, Darkness Cat, Millie the Minx as well as the veterans Christina Charlston and Jana Marie Bowen.</div></div></div></div></div></div><p></p><p> </p><p>
