ON THE ROAD WITH...

MATT BROCK

DATELINE: Sioux Falls, SD

I've arrived in Sioux Falls for WrestleRock this Sunday.

I just checked into my two-star motel. Giving it two stars is being one-and-a-half stars too generous. This place is a run down hole. I've never met so many women in a parking lot named Candi, Wanda or Naomi before. They're wandering around like it's Night of the Living Dead out there. Gotta look out the window every 20-minutes to see if my rental car is still in the parking lot.

Good thing I loaded up on spirits and smokes at the liquor store down the street.

The A/C barely works and sounds like a Motley Crue concert. The room reeks of lord knows what. The shower has mold in it. A big roach climbed out of the sink drain. When you flush the toilet, you pray the contents go down and do not come up. The toilet paper is really thin.

The bed is like laying on bricks and the pillows are each the size of a postage stamp. The sheets have cigarette burn holes in them. The TV is one where you have to turn the knob on the set to change the channel. The carpet's been here since Eisenhower was President.

Excuse me. There's a knock at my door.

The person at my door was 'Wanda'. She asked if I wanted to have some 'fun'. Told her I'm not in the mood for a visit to the free clinic after we've had 'fun' and closed the door in her face. She's still pounding on the door and cursing at me through it.

This place has no cable TV. There are what appears to be cave paintings mixed with blood on the walls. Some of the new guests just arrived in a covered wagon complete with arrows sticking out of the sides of the wagon and through the lady's bonnet.

This is surreal.

I'm only here for WrestleRock and then I am gone.

I guess I'll head to the famous Wall Drug in Wall, South Dakota, to see what that's all about after the matches.

But, I'm here to cover the show for Pro Wrestling Illustrated and give my thoughts on it when it is over.

But now, I'm gonna give my predictions on the matches:

The Trooper, Top Guns, Ken Patera & Brad Rheingans vs. Greg valentine, the Destruction Crew & Badd Company

You have the World Tag Team Champions and the Pro Wrestling Heritage Champion on one team. The Destruction Crew has been wreaking havoc for over a year as the tag team champs. Greg Valentine currently looks unstoppable as the Pro Wrestling Heritage Champion. But this is a 10-man tag and anything can happen. There's a lot of bad blood in this match. You've got 10 solid wrestlers in this match and the bottom line is things could go either way. This match is largely a pick 'em...

Excuse me. Another knock on the door.

Well, 'Wanda' just came back with her male 'friend' in a big purple hat with a long white feather in it. He told me that if I was rude to 'Wanda' again I would regret it for the rest of my life, however long or short that may be. I thanked him for threatening my life and politely closed the door in his face.

As I said before I was so rudely interrupted, the 10-man tag is a pick 'em. But, I feel I've got to pick one team. In a wild match, Trooper, Patera, Rheingans and the Top Guns emerge victorious.

Open Challenge Match: Kokina Maximus vs. Don Muraco

I'll just give it to you up front... Kokina wins and remains undefeated.

Kokina has been showing some cracks in the foundation lately as he's gotten tough matches from Jerry Blackwell and Tom Zenk before defeating them. But, those cracks are not yet wide enough to think Kokina loses anytime soon.

The case with Don Muraco will be no different. Muraco will give Kokina his toughest test to date since the behemoth arrived in the AWA. But, in the end, Kokina once again proves too powerful and finishes off the valiant fighter Muraco.

Powerbomb vs. Powebomb: Magnificent MImi (WC - w/ Valerie) vs. Wendi Richter

Valerie will be locked in a shark cage at ringside.

This woman has an uncanny knack for helping her wrestler when she's in tough spots.

Even though she'll be locked in a cage. I can't help but think Valerie will have some trick up her sleeve that will help Mimi.

Look for Mimi, with Valerie's help in some fashion, to powerbomb Richter and win the match.

Loser Leaves The AWA/No DQ: Col. DeBeers vs. Sgt. Slaughter

This the most interesting match on the card as far as I'm concerned.

Col....

Excuse me. Another knock on the door.

Well. 'Wanda's' feather-hatted male friend told me I need to pay him a protection fee so nothing bad happens to me tonight. I asked him about the other two nights I was staying here. Do I need to pay 'protection money' for them, too?

Feather Hat got flustered and told me I need to pay him $50 bucks a night for him to make sure nothing happens to me. I told Huggy Bear that's double each night what the room is costing. He stomped around and was very demanding. So, I gave him $10 bucks and told him to buy the strongest mouthwash he can find because halitosis is unbecoming of a pimp.

Back to the Loser Leaves The AWA/No Disqualification match...

I see this as being all-out war. These two men are fighting for their AWA careers. Everything is on the line here. It promises to be extremely violent and extremely bloody. If you're a fan of brawling and crimson masks, then this is a dream match for you. Both men know how to fight.

But DeBeers is the master of nastiness in the AWA. This guy would run over his own grandma to beat her in a match. While Sarge has shown in his career that he stoop pretty low, he'll never beat DeBeers in the Stoop Low Olympics.

DeBeers wins the match and Sgt. Slaughter, the flagship wrestler in the AWA the last few years, is gone from the promotion.

AWA WORLD TITLE MATCH: Cactus Jack (WC) vs.Wahoo McDaniel

What a story it would be if Wahoo won the World Title. It would be like a perfect Hollywood ending for a man who is in the twilight of his career but can stand toe-to-toe with anyone in the squared circled. Wahoo has stated in interviews the World Championship is the one belt that has always eluded him.

I hate to ruin that Hollywood ending...

The unpredictable and unorthodox Jack is young and full of piss, vinegar and crazier than Terry Funk or Mark Lewin.

I'm going with Jack because of the youth factor. If this was Wahoo of, say, 10 years ago, no question I would go with the great Indian star. But this is a man who has been in the sport now for over 25 years.

If you're betting on this match, I'd say go with the youngster over the legend.

Cactus Jack retains the belt.

There's a loud commotion outside in the parking lot. Excuse me.

Well, 'Wanda's' friend Feather Hat has apparently set her ablaze because, as he screamed, she did not meet her quota for the day.

Gotta call the fire department. Looks like other lodgers are just using 'Burning Wanda' to roast marshmallows.

(Matt Brock is an award winning pro wrestling journalist. That is if he really existed he would be.)

Well, that was a bit of nostalgia right there - very reminiscent of the actual columns with the "Matt Brock" byline in the Apter mags, like Looking Back (in The Wrestler) and Plain Speaking (in Inside Wrestling).  😎  If Brock actually had been a real person, I could imagine him sounding like a hard-boiled Brooklyn-accented private eye from those old film noir movies or TV shows from way back when.

Glad you picked up on the 'Matt Brock' vibe I was going for. What other Apter Mag wrestlers weren't real? Liz Hunter wasn't. But I'm stumped after that. I thought Eddie Ellner might be, but apparently he was 100% legit. I always envisioned Matt with a gravel voice from drinking too much whiskey.

Mimi up and Richter hit Miimi with a dropkick, Mimi crashed to the mat and got up and Richter hit Mimi with a kick to the gut and went for a powerbomb but Mimi deadweighted her and dropped to her front side on the mat. Richter reached down and started puling Mimi up when Mimi grabbed Richter's legs and pulled them out from under her and Richter crashed to the mat with Mimi still holding her legs. Mimi catapaulted Richter and slammed face-first into the mat in the corner. Mimi up and stomped away on Richter and then grabbed Richter by the hair and flung Richter across the ring and Richter crashed to the mat. Val liking what she sees from the cage and cheering on Mimi. Mimi snapped up Richter, whipped Richter into the ropes and caught Richter coming off with a high backdrop. Richter slammed to the mat. Crowd cheering on Richter. Mimi stomped Richter in the head and snapped Wendi up and hoisted Wendi up for her sitout powerbomb but when Richter got to the top she nailed Mimi with punches to the head and Mimi crashed to the mat with Wendi on top of her as the crowd cheered. Richter hit Mimi with a couple more head shots, got up, snapped Mimi up and suplexed Mimi and hit Mimi with an elbow smash to the chest. Mimi rolled over. Richter stomped Mimi in the back and snapped Mimi up and slammed Mimi's head multiple times in rapid fire fashion into the top buckle. Mimi spun around in the corner and Richter hit Mimi with some shoulder blocks to the gut. Richter went to whip whip Mimi into the opposite buckles and Mimi but Mimi reversed and sent Richer crashing into them. Mimi charged in and Wendi got both feet up and kicked Mimi in the chest. Mimi doubled over walked around in a circle and Richter caught Mimi in position for the powerbomb and started to hoist Mimi up but Mimi blocked the move, pulled her head out from between Wendi's thighs and drove Wendi hard into the buckles. Mimi laid into Richter with forearms to the chest, pulled Richter out of the corner and whopped Richter into the ropes and caught Richter coming off with a clothesline. Richter crashed to the mat.

Val, from the cage, was heard yelling: Finish her off, champ!

Richter got up bent over and Mimi hit a knee lift to Richter's chest and Richter crashed to the mat. Mimi grabbed Richter and went to hoist her up for a powerbomb but Wendi twice blocked the move, pulled her head out from between Mimi's thighs and popped Mimi with a clothesline. Mimi crashed to the mat. Richter grabbed Mimi as Mimi was getting up and caught Mimi in a fireman's carry and nailed Mimi with a fireman's carry slam. Crowd popped. Suddenly, the masked mystery man made his way through the crowd and attacked the AWA official from behind who held the key to the cage. Official dropped the key on the floor, Ref saw what was going on and became distracted and went over by the ropes and started yelling and gesturing for the mystery man to leave the area. Crowd buzzing. Mystery man picked up the key and was fiddling with the cage lock when the crowd popped big-time as The Trooper tore down the face aisle to ringside, grabbed the masked mystery man and slammed his head into the cage. Masked man dropped the key. Ref still distracted with what was going on on the floor. Richter picked up Mimi and powerbombed her but the ref didn't see it. Crowd going crazy. Trooper caught masked mystery man with a couple of head shots and masked man took off back up the heel aisle with Trooper giving chase. Ref turned back to the action. Richter thought she'd won. Ref told her he didn't see anything and waved the victory off. Crowd losing it. Mimi managed to slip out of the ring and go over to the cage and Val reached into her coat pocket and handed her a small chain. Mimi slid back into the ring. Richter turned and Mimi went to hit Richter with the chain but Richter ducked the move and came back and stunned Mimi with sitout arm wrench facebuster. Crowd erupted. Mimi lost the foreign object. Val stunned in the cage. Richter signaled it was time for the powerbomb part deux. Richter hoisted Mimi up and powerbombed her and the ref saw this one and called for the bell as the fans roared for Richter.

Val deflated in the cage and Mimi down in the ring. Ref raised Richter's hand in victory and Richter left the ring and celebrated at ringside with fans before heading over to the cage. Richter told the now recovered AWA official, who once again had the key, to open the cage door. Val begging the official not to do it. Official held the key up and the crowd begged him to open the cage. Mimi had recovered enough, saw what was going on, came up behind the official and Richter and snatched the key from the official's hand and ran away with it. Richter couldn't get in. But Val could not get out!

Richter waved goodbye to Val and blew her a kiss before heading victoriously back up the face aisle as Val remained in the cage and was now yelling for someone to let her out.

WINNER: Richter - Powerbomb - 7:32

Announcers discussed the Richter victory. Talked about the new era of the AWA. Said the newest arrival to the AWA would be revealed next!

In-ring: Larry Nelson stood center ring with mic in hand.

Nelson: What a day of great rock 'n' wrestling it's been here at WrestleRock in Sioux Falls, South Dakota!

Crowd popped.

Nelson: As you know, it's a new era here in the AWA! Things are indeed changing here! And they're gonna change even more with my next guest!

Would you please welcome the newest addition to the AWA... the 'Russian Nightmare' Nikita Koloff!

Crowd popped and the roar got louder as Koloff made his way down the face aisle to the ring. He was dressed in a suit and tie.

Koloff climbed in the ring and acknowledged the fans. His head was shaven once again.

Nelson: Nikita, listen to this fantastic crowd response for you!

More cheers.

Koloff: It is great to be here in the American Wrestling Association, Larry Nelson.

You have new blood running the promotion. And the AWA promises to be more exciting moving forward.

Nelson: A lot of fans remember you as a Communist and America hater, for lack of a better term. And then, a few years ago, you changed.

Koloff: I did change. It wasn't overnight. I had grown up, how you say, deluged with anti-Americanism in Mother Russia.

Over time, living here a few years, I came to appreciate America. It is the greatest country on earth.

Loud cheer from the fans.

Koloff: I am proud to now call my home the United States. The people have been very, very good to me here. Even in the days when I was an America hater and Russian, how you say, supremacist.

America is light. Soviet Communism is darkness. God bless America.

More cheers and chants of USA! USA!

Koloff: And I want to say something about somebody here in AWA.

Nelson: Go ahead.

Koloff: The great thing about America is you have, how you say, the freedom of the speech.

Nelson: Our most important freedom.

Fans cheered.

Koloff: Col. DeBeers just beat Sgt. Slaughter in a loser leaves town match. Col. DeBeers, I have soemthing to say to you. You hate this country like I did. You, how you say, despise the good American people and how they live. You praise South Africa. I hope that you will one day see the light, Colonel, and embrace a country that has been good to you even though you have not been good to it.

Fans cheered.

Koloff: But, if you don't want to change and, how you say, embrace American freedom and America, you should pack up and go home.

Loud pop from the crowd.

Nelson: Definitely words that Col. DeBeers needs to hear.

Nikita Koloff, everybody! He's here and the new era of the AWA rolls on!

Announcers discussed the arrival of Nikita Koloff and his words for Col. DeBeers.

Figured Cactus would've gotten a longer reign than that. Guess he was just a transitional champion because of Slaughter leaving.

Sarge would still be the World Champion but then I called an audible and went with the Sarge to the WWF behind the scenes storyline. Jack was just a placeholder. Wahoo was the only one I saw on the roster as a viable WC on the face side at this point despite his advanced years in the biz.

Question is: is Wahoo just a transitional World Champ, too?

Yes he is!  But the next champion needs to arrive and get established quickly.  But I can see who his manager will be.  And it could be a very interesting combo!

And boy do I feel for Jonnie Stewart lol.

WRESTLEROCK FAN POLL

Your opinion of WrestleRock? Always remember this is all in good fun 😉

Thumbs Up - I’m giving the show a lean to thumbs up.  I’m glad the Jonnie Stewart match was not telecast.  I always liked Stewart and while in the dying AWA the Milliman thing was a “fun” joke (I guess), the new AWA is beyond the joke.  Shocked Cowboy would go with that decision.

While I wouldn’t have gone with Wahoo winning, it’s a nice story and the fans (most of them) went home happy.

The undercard was solid, not a real weakness of the cards main show.  That said I would have liked to have seen a tag team title defense on a big show.

Best match on WrestleRock?  If I didn’t know what the outcome was going to be for me it would have been DeBeers vs Sarge.  Loser leave is the ultimate high stakes

Worst match on WrestleRock?  It wasn’t a bad match and I get why it was done, but for me it would be the opening 10-man match.  I would have loved to see Bor Orion get in the match if you’re going to have it.

Star of the show?  Has to go to Wahoo for winning the one title he never had before.

Was Vixen the right choice for the rock act on the show?  Considering the location, I’d say no.  Might be my bias that I never was really interested in them back in the day, but that aside do they fit Sioux Falls?

I'm assuming the attendance was a slight disappointment to the AWA but let’s see how they did financially.  The rumored signings should be a positive and you never know what the impact of Nikita vs DeBeers might be.  I’m of course a heel fan and I liked the true Russian Nightmare better than the Super Powers Nikita, but DeBeers is a good feud to start with especially fresh of that shocking win over Sarge.

Your opinion of WrestleRock?  I'd go thumbs up, as I thought it was a good first major effort for the AWA under its new ownership, and it can only go up from there.

Best match on WrestleRock?  Would have to be the Cactus-Wahoo AWA World title main event (Wahoo finally gets a World title reign of his own, but for Cactus, his reign as champion appears to only be the beginning for him), though the drama of the Sarge-DeBeers loser leaves the AWA match makes that match a close runner-up.

Worst match on WrestleRock?  Kokina-Muraco, if only because of Sheik Adnan's post-match antics against Muraco on Kokina's behalf.

Star of the show?  Wahoo McDaniel, for finally achieving his career-long dream of winning a World championship after weathering the reckless onslaught of Cactus during their match.  I'll also give honorable mention to Bill Watts for how he handled the defiant Valerie and Mimi to kick off the Wendi-Mimi powerbomb vs. powerbomb match.

Was Vixen the right choice for the rock act on the show?  I'd heard of Vixen but never really gave them a listen, so I had to check out the linked videos - and damn, those are four hotties with musical talent!  😍  So I'd say, yeah, they were the right choice for the show.

I agree about the 10-man tag. Honestly, I just did not want to lay it out with all the moving parts.

Had to put the 10 guys on the show for a payday.

You're tired of the Jake Milliman Hulk Hogan gmmick? 🙃 Watts does need enhancement talent. Things will dramatically change starting with the June TV tapings.

Unfortunately for Vixen, they did not hit their stride until the metal decade was winding down and petering out. Think they would have been bigger if they had their first album release in '85 rather than '88 or '89.

Attendance was down by like 800 from the Sarge-Lawler house show match there. Ticket prices might have scared them off. But still would have been around a $100,000 house. Tix for the house show would have been much cheaper than WR.

Glad you liked the Watts-Mimi interaction. Just seemed like a fun little bit to throw in there.

The fallout from Kaissey's actions are coming soon.

We'll see if they can top the show with Super Clash 5.

Vixen looked good, their music was good but the expiration date on metal as a major form of music entertainment was fast approaching. The lead singer now works as a dental hygenist(?) in Connecticut, I believe.

Thanks to both of you for leaving comments.

Zenk picked up Stewart and bodyslammed him. Both men down. Ref counting. Both men up and Stewart struck Zenk with a punch, whipped Zenk into the corner and caught Zenk with a running back elbow smash to the chest. Zenk stumbled out of the corner and went down on his face in the ring. Stewart picked up Zenk and bodyslammed him. TV MAIN EVENT: The Trooper vs. 'Cowboy' Bob Orton

Orton came down the heel aisle to pretty strong boos.

Trooper came down the face aisle to a strong ovation. Trooper handed out souvenir speeding tickets on the way to the ring.

The two men felt each other out early on before the action picked up. Some good back-and-forth action before Orton gained a clear advantage using some heel tactics but he could not put Trooper away. Trooper then gained the advantage and took control of the match. Orton was able to fight back late and regain the advantage. Orton was on the offensive and went to whip Trooper into the corner but Trooper reversed and sent Orton crashing into the buckles. Trooper moved in and hit Orton with shoulder blocks to the gut. Orton then shoved Trooper back and Trooper collided with the ref and both men went down. Orton stomped on Trooper and snapped Trooper up and went to suplex Trooper but Trooper twice blocked the suplex try and, just as the ref got to his feet, Trooper suplexed Orton into the ref and the ref crashed back down to the mat. Crowd buzzing (or just buzzed). Orton snapped up Trooper and whipped Trooper into the ropes and missed Trooper coming off with a clohtesline and Trooper came back and pulverized Orton with his flying shoulder tackle finisher. Crowd popped. Ref still down. Trooper backed up as Orton got to his feet. Trooper charged in and popped Orton with another flying shoulder tackle. Orton crashed back down to the mat. Trooper went over and checked on the ref. Masked mystery man came through the crowd and hopped the chain barricade and climbed in the ring. He had a cloth and spray can with him. Mystery man held the cloth up and sprayed it.

Marshall: What is that smell, Lord James?!

Blears: Smells like ether, Lee.

Mystery man snuck up behind Trooper and placed the rag over his mouth. Trooper struggling trying to escape the gas. Trooper weakened fairly quickly and passed out on the mat. Orton had recovered enough and crawled over and covered Trooper and the masked mystery man dragged the ref over to count. Mystery man escaped through the crowd. Ref counted. 1.....2.....3! Ref called for the bell as the crowd booed. A dazed and confused Trooper barely moving. Orton and the ref to their feet and Orton had his hand raised in victory.

I remember seeing this match once on a video store tape I rented years ago, USA All-Star Wrestling (which contained matches taken from the syndicated Crockett shows).  That tape brings back memories because the first match on it had Dusty Rhodes, Rick Steamboat and Dick Slater battling Ron Bass, Black Bart and Tully Blanchard in a six-man Bunkhouse Brawl match (with JJ Dillon, the manager of Tully, Bass and Bart at that point, lassoed by Magnum TA to keep him from interfering in the match).  😎

Wahoo's too old to be a long term champion, at this point in time he somewhere around 50 or so. If anyone on the roster is fit to be the figurehead right now it's Nikita. He's arguably the most famous guy on the card right now thanks to his time in the nwa. Plus he's a Minnesota natives himself out of kayfabe and he was basically Goldberg before Goldberg was a thing. It Might be best if Wahoo drop the belt to one of the top heels like kokina or debeers, then have Nikita beat that guy and take the title.

That's where I saw the match, too! Only it was called Super Star Wrestling and the box was yellow. Don't remember the 6-man, though. The Ric Flair-Kurt Von Hess match I posted a while back was off one of those video tapes as well.

P.S. - My profile pic is of a young Rip Taylor. I think only a small number of us here would even know who he was.

He would have been 51 IRL at this time. I was planning on booking him as champ for 2 years! 😬

Oh no dude, it's talk like that why Bobby heenan called the awa the alzheimer's wrestling association. You need youngblood to carry a company.

Never heard Heenan call it that before. LOL! He's right, though. Verne stuck to his guns way too long. Hogan was the future in '83 and he let it slip right through his fingers. You don't want to see Wahoo taking out all the younger AWA talent? I put the strap on Chief because he was the next major name face on the roster. Not to give anything away, but I would not hold my breath on a 2 year run with the big belt. IRL, it would have been a nice reward to cap off his long career IMHO.

While Wahoo might be older but it’s a nice story for him to reach the promise land finally.  He won’t be a long term champion but you can get some matches out of him.  At this point the problem in Kokina is your building a monster.  Monsters don’t need belts especially while they are still learning.  There is money in the chase, but you put the gold on him now you eventually have to beat him.  Build and chase then when he finally gets a shot you have something.  Wahoo with the belt is a perfect setup to Tully.  Once Blanchard has the belt, you have ready made feuds with Windham, The Trooper and maybe even if he’s still a babyface, Nikita.  Kokina can have a run with the Heritage title.  Start slow, build slow and you have something special down the line.

Just some booking thoughts on the fly, but I can’t wait to see what you do.!

Valentine came down the heel aisle to mainly boos but also had his fans.

In the ring, Valentine removed the belt from around his waist and held it up to more boos before handing it off to the ref. Valentine came to the ring to the strains of The Fight by Giorgio Moroder.

Announcers wondered if Jammer could do the unthinkable.

Jammer started the match on fire and was able to hit the champ with his Jammer slam (whip opponent into the buckles, opponent bounces out of the corner into a powerslam) and went to pin Valentine. 1...2...thr... Valentine kicked out. Not long after this, Valentine took control of the match, worked over Jammer's left knee area and caught Jammer in the figure four. Jammer quickly submitted. Ref called for the bell and Valentine kept the hold locked on. Ref ordering Valentine to let go but Valentine not listening. Crowd popped as Don Muraco* charged down the face aisle and hit the ring. Announcers pointed out that Muraco had recently beaten Valentine in a non-title match on TV. Valentine quickly released the hold on Jammer and got up and started fighting with Muraco. Valentine gained the upper hand on Muraco and went to whip Muraco into the ropes but Muraco reversed and caught Valentine coming off with a press slam. Valentine up and walked right into a fireman's carry from Muraco followed by a Samoan Drop. Crowd erupted. Valentine rolled out of the ring and crashed to the floor to more cheering. Muraco stood tall in the ring as Valentine stumbled over, grabbed his belt from Larry Nelson and made a hasty retreat up the heel aisle.

Go bodyslammed Milliman and went out on the apron and mounted the top buckle. Go for a flying body press but Jake rolled out of the way and Go slammed to the mat as the fans cheered. AWA DEBUT: Tina Moretti vs. Candi Divine

Divine came down the heel aisle to a mixed crowd reax (she's a 'tweener'.)

Moretti leaped to her feet and the ref raised her hand in victory to a nice crowd response. Moretti left the ring and slaped hands with fans at ringside before heading back up the face aisle.

Split-screen pic aired of DeBeers and Patera with the caption: NEXT... THE MAIN EVENT!!!

Commercials/Market-specific promos for hoiuse show citites/Generic promos for non-house show cities

TV MAIN EVENT: Col. Debeers vs. Ken Patera

An uninvited Valerie joined Lee Marshall and Lord James at the announcers' table for the match.

Patera came down the face aisle to a very good ovation.

DeBeers made his way down the heel aisle to overwhelming boos but also had his core of fans.

Before the match, Patera took the ring mic from Larry Nelson and looked right at Valerie.

Ken: Valerie. Why do you keep coming out during my matches? I'll say it again. I'm not signing with you and joining your stable! Never gonna happen!

Match started out as a feeling out process before DeBeers gained the upper hand early but Patera quickly turned the tables on him. Some near falls during the match and DeBeers also escaped Patera's swinging full nelson finisher by getting his leg out over the middle rope to force a break before Patera could start the swinging part. DeBeers took some shortcuts during the match to gain the advantage.

End of the match saw the two men slugging it out in a  back-and-forth battle. DeBeers gained the advantage and whipped Patera into the corner. DeBeers moved in and Patera charged out and flattened DeBeers with a big running clothesline. Crowd popped. Patera snapped DeBeers up and nailed DeBeers with a spinning powerslam. DeBeers in trouble. Crowd cheering. Suddenly, Valerie took off her headset and made her way to ringside. Patera had circled around behind the stunned DeBeers and was preparing to lock DeBeers into his swinging full nelson finisher when he suddenly noticed Val standing at ringside. DeBeers moved over by the ropes and started yelling at Val. DeBeers made it to his feet behind Patera and charged up behind Patera and nailed Patera with a running high knee to the back. Patera bounced front-first into the ropes and DeBeers rolled him up from behind for the pin. 1... DeBeers grabbed a handful of tights. ...2...3! Ref called for the bell as the fans booed. Ref raised DeBeers hand in victory and the Col. then left the ring. Patera to his feet and glaring at Val.

Larry Nelson walked up to Val with mic in hand.

Val: Ken Patera. I can make you or break you. Take your pick.
