(78)

Match 5: CM Punk vs American Dragon. CM Punk was close to victory after a Shining Wizard. Dragon grabbed the ropes during the pin. Punk goes for the Pepsi Plunge but Dragon conducts a backdrop off the top rope. Dragon Suplex! Dragon grabs Punk in a painful Cattle Mutilation! CM Punk almost taps out up... Goldberg is forced to leave the ring for medical help. Horsemen began to dominate over lonely Rhodes. Dustin fights back well... until Abyss and Mesias show up! They attack Dustin, while the ref is distracted. Then Castagnoli hits Rhodes with a Neutralizer. Pin...  Goldberg comes back in and rushes to break the pin, but falls short. (8:33) (77)

Fall Brawl - Wikipedia

WCW Fall Brawl 2002

An opening video highlights the main event that will determine the future of World Championship Wrestling.

WCW President Eric Bischoff opens the show with a promo. He reminds that just over a year ago, he stood in that very ring to declare that WCW wouldn't be defeated. That WCW will live. Corporate politics and bureaucracy failed to bring them down. Since then, they have recovered from the damage and have thrived, giving the best superstars from around the world a chance to shine. But corporate hydra is back. Today, they must defend WCW from corporate interference and prevent TV executives from taking over. Eric is willing to fight for this cause and asks for everyone's support.

Match 1: Shannon Moore and mystery partner vs Jerry Lynn and 'The Fallen Angel' Christopher Daniels. The crowd anticipates the reveal of the mystery partner, and it's none other than SHANE HELMS, making his return to WCW! Lynn and Daniels try to isolate Moore, but Shannon dodges one of the punches and delivers a Rocker Dropper on Daniels. Exhausted, he struggles to maintain control. Lynn is tagged in. Helms gets the hot tag! 3 Count use tag team maneuvers. They kick out Lynn from the ring. Moore jumps with a plancha on him. Daniels receives a Vertabreaker from Helms. 1...2...3. (14:32)

Match 2, Extreme Rules: Fit Finlay vs Sabu. The match quickly devolves into an all-out brawl. At one point, both wrestlers arm themselves with chairs, clashing in a fierce duel. Finlay floors Sabu with a chair shot. 1...2. Finlay attempts a Tombstone, but Sabu counters with a hurricanrana into a chair. 1...2. Sabu then executes an Arabian Facebuster. 1...2...3. (11:10)

Don Callis backstage interview. He claims that his team consists of the future of wrestling. While Bischoff might have gathered his legends, they belong to the past. Callis vows that his team will seize complete control of WCW tonight. (52)

Match 3, #1 Contendership for WCW World Tag Team Championship: Mark Jindrak and Sean O’Haire vs Brian Kendrick and Paul London vs LAX (Homicide and Hernandez). The match is chaotic, with each team displaying their signature moves, trying to secure a win. Jindrak and O'Haire seem to have an edge. Jindrak takes down Homicide with a back suplex into Rock Bottom. Hernandez immediately knocks him out of the ring with a big boot. Kendrick and London with a double dropkick to the knees takes Hernandez down. Kendrick hits a bottom dropkick. Hernandez rolls out of the ring. O'Haire gets in the ring, gets a shining wizard from Kendrick, and London rolls him up into a pin. 1...2...3. (12:21) (75)

Match 4: Eric Bischoff vs Don Callis. Bischoff starts aggressively, chasing Callis both inside and outside the ring. Callis manages to turn the tables using some cheap moves. Back in the ring, amidst a clutter of chairs and other objects, Callis attempts a piledriver. Eric counters and tries a karate-style leg kick, but Callis hides behind the referee. Seizing the moment, Callis delivers a ringbell shot to Bischoff's head while the ref is distracted. 1...2...3. (4:03)

Match 5, No DQ: ‘American Nightmare’ Dustin Rhodes vs Mesias (w/ James Mitchell). Mesias dominates with his sheer power, giving Rhodes little room to maneuver. Dustin hits a low blow and smashes Mesias with a steel chain. Mitchell calls Abyss to the ring. Abyss attacks Dustin. Mesias goes for the Mesias Splash but misses. Dustin and Mesias go to the ramp. There Mesias counters and delivers a devastating Chokeslam down the ramp! He then exits the arena with Mitchell, leaving a battered Dustin behind. Apparently, it's no contest. (11:10)

Match 6: American Dragon vs Samoa Joe. The master of submission moves against the submission machine. American Dragon realized the danger of his opponent, so he tried to contain his pressure with constant submission moves. However, Joe manages to land a leg kick followed by a Pele kick. Growing confident, Joe starts to dominate. This backfires when Dragon traps him in an armbar, effectively disabling one of Joe's arms. Joe manages to hit Dragon with a powerslam but struggles to lift him for another move. Using his good arm, Joe delivers a lariat. Climbing the top rope, Joe is ambushed by Dragon who hits a Stunner from the top! 1...2...NO! Dragon then locks in the Cattle Mutilation. The referee is forced to break up an illegal takedown that Joe had no chance of getting out of. As Dragon releases the hold, he's met with a knee strike and a Koji Clutch by Joe, forcing him to tap out. (16:06)

Match 7, WCW United States Championship: Rey Mysterio vs AJ Styles. There wasn't much of a storyline or heat between those two. But it was made up for by high-flying moves and thrilling technical sequences.  Styles nails Mysterio with a Quebrada DDT. 1...2. Rey counters with a dropkick to the knee and rolls AJ up for the pin. 1...2. Styles manages to escape and locks Mysterio in a Figure-Four Leglock. Rey reaches for the ropes. Styles attempts a German suplex, but Rey lands on his feet and delivers an enziguri. He follows up with the 6-1-9 and the West Coast Pop! 1...2...NO! Mysterio positions Styles on the turnbuckle and goes for a top-rope hurricanrana. Styles resists, looking to hit the Styles Clash from the top, but Rey counters, leaping to the mat and then springboarding back for another top-rope hurricanrana. 1...2...3. (15:50)

Match 8, 100% Control of World Championship Wrestling, WarGames: Team Bischoff (Goldberg, Shawn Michaels, Lance Storm, Ric Flair and Booker T) vs Team Callis (Chris Kanyon, Steve Corino, CW Anderson, Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli). Goldberg starts the match. And he gives his team an early advantage. However, the tide turned when his opponents targeted his leg, applying multiple Figure-Four Leglocks among other submissions. Shawn Michaels joins the match, teaming up with Goldberg to gain the upper hand. Next up was Booker T, who also had a good showing in the match. Towards the end, everyone started doing finishers on each other. In the chaos, Goldberg accidentally strikes HBK. Hero and Castagnoli cornered Goldberg, while Kanyon hit Michaels with a Flatliner. 1...2...Booker T intervenes with a save.He delivers a Harlem Sidekick to Kanyon and an Axe Kick to Corino! 1...2... but the pin is broken up. The action continues with Team Bischoff in control. Corino gets a Sweet Chin Music. Flair quickly locks Corino in a Figure-Four Leglock, forcing him to tap out. (28:54)

WCW Monday Nitro
Episode #71

Goldberg opens the show. He points out that Booker T demanded a WCW World Heavyweight Title shot a week ago. But really, it's Goldberg who deserves it.  It was Goldberg, after all, who made all the difference at War Games. He hasn't been given a title rematch since March when he lost his title. But now, he's gunning to reclaim what's his... Shawn Michaels interrupts. Shawn Michaels speaks up, mentioning that after War Games, the HBK can finally focus on his two main concerns: 1) getting the title match he earned but never received two months ago, and 2) finding out who ran him over with a car four months back. And Goldberg remains a suspect... Goldberg replies, that it wasn't him. He solves all his problems in the ring and without a car... Lance Storm comes out to the ring, emphasizing his respect for Shawn Michaels and suggesting Goldberg should respect the HBK too. After all, it was Shawn who secured their win at War Games. Goldberg fires back, referring to Storm as "Michaels' little bitch" Things heat up, leading Storm to challenge Goldberg to a match, tonight, on Nitro! (95)

Match 1: Elix Skipper and Petey Williams vs Rising Pain (Kaz Hayashi and Low Ki). Hayashi attempts his signature Hayashi Cutter on Williams, but Williams pushes him into Skipper, who delivers a powerful punch to Hayashi's head. Reeling from the impact, Hayashi is then caught by Williams with a Canadian Destroyer. But wait – did Elix have brass knuckles or something on his hand? Regardless, Williams pins for three. (9:53) (79)

Backstage, Rey Mysterio with Chavo Guerrero prepares to receive the internet award. AJ Styles steps up, offering delayed but genuine respect for Rey after their bout at Fall Brawl. Chavo confronts Styles, telling that Rey is ready to beat him up again. The argument starts. Chavo eventually challenges him to a match. Guerrero expects praise from Rey Mysterio, but he's not happy. (78)

The Four Horsemen in-ring promo. Steve Corino gives a motivational speech to his mates. They're in the crosshairs right now, but they're the best version of the Horsemen ever. That's why they're going to get through it. Now they need to rally together despite Bischoff's intrigues. Now it's more important than ever. Hero and Castagnoli had a tough match against each other last week. They need to work on their partnership, so they will challenge the WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Champions Kendrick and London to a tag team match tonight...

... Ric Flair interrupts. He says that no version of the Horsemen is 'the best ever' without him. And at the best of times, none of them could even carry bags for Flair, Anderson, Blanchard or any other legendary Horseman. Speaking of Arn... Flare asks how he could be among them. After all, he knows the real Horsemen. He is the real Horseman. And when their monster CW Anderson is trying to not just win, but traumatize his opponent, it's too much. Arn is confused. But CW Anderson interrupts, boldly declaring himself the best enforcer in Horsemen history. Arn is getting him an astonished look. Steve Corino urges not to listen to Flair. He's ready to shut him up in person - tonight in a tag team match with CW Anderson against him and his buddy Sting. (93)

Match 2: Jerry Lynn vs Jamie Noble. Noble once again showcases his technical moves, but Lynn blocks a Northern Lights Bomb and conducts a Cradle Piledriver for the win. (6:30) (79)

Post-match, Lynn seems unsatisfied and goes for another Cradle Piledriver, only to be stopped by Shane Helms.

Match 3: Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli (w/ Arn Anderson) vs Brian Kendrick and Paul London. The Horsemen's team interactions were so-so, even despite Anderson's mentorship. London climbs up for the Shooting Star Press, but CM Punk showing up and distracts him. Castagnoli knocks London out of the ring with a Euro uppercut, and in the ring, Brian Kendrick gets KRS ONE from his opponents. (8:51) (85)

WCW Commissioner Dusty Rhodes invites Rey Mysterio to the ring to give him the 2002 Progress of the Year award by the internet fans. Rey gives a speech about how proud he is of it. How he worked hard for it. And that in 2002 he finally broke through, winning the biggest award in his career, that was impossible before for a man of his weight and size - the WCW United States Championship…

… He is interrupted by WCW World Heavyweight Champion Chris Kanyon! Kanyon isn't happy that the Progress of the Year wasn't awarded to him. Which proves once again: fans are absolutely clueless about anything. Kanyon became WCW World Heavyweight Champion by defeating Goldberg. He defeated Booker T, Sting, Flair, Michaels.... All of them! All in 2002! And after that, he doesn't get an award? Instead they honor Mysterio, who 'has a big win for a man of his size'? Kanyon speaks the truth: Rey is a laughingstock for the title. Mysterio replies that he's ready to prove in the ring that he's ready not only for the United States Championship, but also the WCW World Heavyweight Title. Rey Mysterio challenges Kanyon to a title match! Kanyon replies with a laugh, but then Dusty Rhodes intervenes and sets them up to match at Halloween Havoc! (95)

Match 4: Chavo Guerrero vs AJ Styles. Both wrestlers came close to winning several times. But ending was very trivial. Chavo goes for the Rolling Vertical Suplex, but Styles blocks it and gets ready for the Styles Clash. Chavo rolls Styles up into a pin and puts his feet on the ropes. (14:51) (83)

James Mitchell backstage promo. He answers Dustin Rhodes' challenge from a week ago. Mitchell says he has consulted with his "spiritual advisor" and is accepting the challenge on behalf of Mesias, but this time it  won’t be so easy to escape for Dustin. It will be a steel cage match. And it won't just be a simple cage. It's going to be a ‘Steel Asylum' match. (62)

Backstage, Rey Mysterio and Chavo Guerrero meet again. Chavo is happy with his win, but Rey is not so much with the way it happened. Chavo argues that sometimes victory requires any means necessary. Rey might see it for himself soon as he is going to pursue the World Championship. He will need to decide: go ‘all-in’  or take the moral high ground, as Kanyon won't be playing by the rules. (76)

Match 5: Ric Flair and Sting vs Steve Corino and CW Anderson (w/ Arn Anderson). Hot tag to Sting at the end of the match. Arn Anderson tries to interfere but misses a shot and knocks out CW Anderson! Sting knocks Corino out of the ring, and Flair rolls CW up into a pin and grabs his trunks tighter. 1...2...3. (6:58) (77)

Post-match, CW Anderson is very unhappy with Arn, but Corino calms him down.

Match 6: Lance Storm (w/ Shawn Michaels) vs Goldberg. Goldberg started strong, overpowering Storm with a series of powerful moves. However, Lance soon found Goldberg's weak point, focusing his attacks on Goldberg's leg. Storm locked in a Half-Boston crab, but Goldberg powered out. He performs a Spear, but misses and runs into a steel post. Storm locks him in a Half-Boston crab again. Goldberg struggles to break out. But he did it. And right after hits Storm with a Spear! 1...2... Storm puts his foot on the rope, ref doesn't see it...3. (14:12) (86)

Post-match, Shawn Michaels points out to the ref that Storm's foot is on the ropes. The ref immediately reverses his decision and orders to restart the match. Goldberg is furious. He confronts Michaels, and the two square up. Looks like the match won't continue after all. It almost comes to a fight between Goldberg and HBK, but at this moment the show ends.

Match 1, WCW Cruiserweight Championship: Low Ki vs Elix Skipper. Elix Skipper showcased an array of interesting moves, but Low Ki's powerful kicks overshadowed any high-flying maneuvers from Skipper. Dutt tries to take down Jindrak with a hurricanrana, but Jindrak counters it into a powerbomb to the ringside, eliminating him. Styles finds himself outnumbered by Jindrak, O'Haire and Castagnoli. Althrough, he manages to eliminate Jindrak with a Pele kick. Castagnoli kicks Styles out of the ring, but he grabs the ropes - Claudio doesn't notice this. He is celebrating the victory. But O'Haire sees everything. He attacks Claudio and gives him a Widow Maker, then eliminates him. Styles is back at the ring. And now we hear a ring bell. AJ Styles and Sean O'Haire, along with their partners, are the winners! (15:29) (79)

Backstage, James Mitchell prepares Mesias for tonight's match. Mitchell says the "spiritual advisor" will be watching him closely. This is Mesias' chance to prove himself. To show that the "spiritual advisor" didn't get him out of hell for nothing. (47)

Match 3, TLC Match: Fit Finlay vs Sabu. There is nothing above the ring. But tables, ladders and chairs are available and 100% legal for the wrestlers. They can win via traditional pin or submission. Both wrestlers used the weapons to their advantage, with Finley even using a shillelagh. Sabu missed a high-risk maneuver and crashed into the table. Finlay finishes him with a Tombstone on the chair. 1...2...3. (13:08) (81)

Post-match, Shane Helms expresses his frustration with the outcome and the referee's decision, while Lynn is fine with it.

Ric Flair backstage interview. He says that CW Anderson isn't worth even a 1/100 of Arn Anderson in his best years. Just like the nowadays Horsemen are a pathetic parody of the real Four Horsemen. And Flair intends to prove it tonight by teaching CW Anderson a thing or two. WHOOOOOOO! (80)

Match 5, Steel Asylum Match: ‘American Nightmare’ Dustin Rhodes vs Mesias. The structure is eerily similar to WWE's Hell in a Cell, with the added twist of weapons inside. Match 6: Ric Flair vs CW Anderson (w/ Arn Anderson). Flair clearly displayed his superior experience in the match, seeming to predict CW's every move. However, CW began targeting Flair's arm, reminiscent of his mentor Arn Anderson's style. Flair regained control with a series of chops and traditional holds but was surprised by a DDT from CW. Anderson goes for a Spinebuster, but Flair counters, applying his iconic Figure-Four Leglock. CW barely reaches the ropes. Flair pulls him back in the center! CW hits with an eye poke and rolls Flair up. 1...2. CW Anderson knocks Flair out with a lariat. Now he asks Arn for help. What does he want? Brass knuckles! Yet, engrossed in the bout, Arn opts for a fair contest and refuses. He wants to see who is the best in a fair fight! CW and Arn start to argue. Flair rolls CW Anderson up and grabs his trunks. 1...2...3. (14:11) (81)

Post-match, Ric Flair leaves the ring. CW Anderson is furious with Arn. He attacks Arn Anderson and sets him up for a Spinebuster! Flair rushes back into the ring, saving his old ally. Punk arms himself with the championship belt, but Kendrick attacks him and hits a Sliced Bread #2. 1...2. Joe breaks the pin. Samoa Joe grabs Kendrick in a Koji Clutch! London does a dropsault to break the hold! The referee tries to bring order to the ring. Punk accidentally knocks Joe out of the ring. Kendrick hits him with a superkick - and Punk falls right into a rollup from London. 1...2...3. We have the NEW WCW World Tag Team Champions! (15:58) (85)

Post-match, the new and undisputed tag team champions are celebrating with all four championship belts. And CM Punk can’t believe they lost.

WCW Commissioner Dusty Rhodes appears on the titantron with a special announcement.  The next PPV will be WCW World War III. This show will feature a traditional World War III, a 30-man battle royal, with the winner getting a WCW World Heavyweight Championship match at the main event of the biggest PPV of the year - Starrcade.

Match 8: Lance Storm vs Goldberg. Standardly, Lance put on technique while Goldberg put on power and strength. Storm soon did his first Half-Boston Crab attempt, but Goldberg kicked out. Spear - Storm dodges, and Goldberg crashes into a steel post. Lance purposefully started working on Bill's leg. Shawn Michaels shows up at ringside to cheer Storm on! Goldberg attempts to turn the tide of the match with a superkick but misses, hits the post and only makes his leg worse. HALF-BOSTON CRAB! Goldberg is really struggling, but he doesn't give up. Goldberg reaches for the ropes. Lance pulls him back to the center of the ring... SHARPSHOOTER! It's serious for Goldberg... But he reaches the ropes this time too. Storm, apparently as the tribute to HBK, gets ready for Sweet Chin Music!.... MiSSES! Goldberg immediately hits a Spear and ends the match with the Jackhammer. (14:25) (85)

Video highlights for our main event - the ‘champion vs champion’ match - for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.

Lance Storm is leaving the arena. Suddenly a car pulls out of the parking lot and hits him! The car drives off with tires squealing and Lance needs some serious help.

Match 9, WCW World Heavyweight Championship: Chris Kanyon vs Rey Mysterio. Match of The Year! It was hard for the champion to counter anything against Rey's quick moves. Kanyon got lucky when he caught Rey outside the ring and slammed his back first into the steel post. Next, Chris did a little work on Rey's back. Mysterio managed to retake the lead. He blocks a Flatliner attempt - and counters with a 6-1-9! West Coast Pop, but Kanyon converts that into a powerbomb. Both are lying down. With both on their feet - Rey hits a heel kick to the head. Another 6-1-9 attempt... Kanyon escapes the ring and grabs the championship belt! Chavo Guerrero comes out to interfere . Rey Mysterio is not happy. Nevertheless, Kanyon couldn't use the belt. And both are back in the ring. Kanyon tries a spinebuster, but Rey reverses into a tornado DDT. 1...2 Hurricanrana by Rey - Kanyon shoves him into the ref. The next hurricanrana attempt succeeds and Kanyon falls to the ropes. 6-1-9! West Coast Pop! A pin, but the ref is out cold. Rey tries to wake up the ref. Meanwhile, Chavo jumps on the top rope and gets ready for the Frog Splash on Kanyon! Rey gets between him and the jump. Chavo asks Rey to step back. Rey refuses. They qrgue until Kanyon gets up, hits a low blow and pushes him into Chavo! Guerrero falls off the top rope outside the ring and Rey Mysterio gets the Flatliner! 1...2...3. (15:57) (99)

WCW Monday Nitro
Episode #73

We're reminded of another shocking incident where a car struck a WCW wrestler. This time, Lance Storm is the victim. We're sure to hear more on this tonight. (75)

WCW US Champion Rey Mysterio opens the show. Rey reflects on how he nearly became the WCW World Heavyweight Champion yesterday, but Chavo's interference thwarted his efforts. He's looking for another shot…

… Chris Kanyon steps up in response, questioning why Rey deserves another title match when Kanyon bested him just the night before. The means of his victory? That's Rey's issue. Kanyon asserts he's beaten Rey just as he's defeated every other WCW superstar…

… WCW Commissioner Dusty Rhodes has something to say. He agrees with Kanyon: Rey doesn't have a compelling reason for a rematch. Yet, Dusty acknowledges it was one of the best matches he's ever seen and would love a repeat. As well as the fans.  Although rules are rules, Dusty speaks about a WCW tradition where the United States Champion could challenge the World Heavyweight Champion at any given time. Dusty's willing to reinstate this tradition, but Rey would need to relinquish his US title. Will Rey swap his current title for a shot at the WCW World Heavyweight Championship? It’s a tough deal. And Rey obviously needs to think about it.  Dusty knows how much the US title means to Rey, so he's not rushing him. Dusty will have the paperwork ready for the next week. Rey can think about it for 7 days. Next Nitro we will know the answer.  As for tonight, Rey will have a chance to get to Kanyon in a tag team match - Rey and a partner of his choice against Kanyon and his partner. (88)

Match 1: Mark Jindrak and Sean O’Haire vs Colt Cabana and Julio Dinero. 'Rookies' Cabana and Dinero didn't put up much resistance against the former tag team champions. And the match ended quite predictably when O'Hair put Dinero down with the Widow Maker. (3:46) (74)

Jerry Lynn backstage interview. He is asked about cheap win over Shane Helms last night. A win that left fans unsatisfied as they didn't see any of their signature moves that they deeply like. Lynn bluntly states he doesn't care about fan expectations. Dusty Rhodes hears this and sets up a match for him against Sabu. (49)

Ric Flair and Arn Anderson arrive at the arena together!

WCW Commissioner Dusty Rhodes brings new WCW World Tag Team Champions Brian Kendrick and Paul London to the ring. He congratulates them but quickly delivers some unfortunate news. They must relinquish their WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship. From now on, those belts are declared vacant and Dusty schedules an open tournament. Any team from anywhere in the world can have their entry for the tournament. The final is scheduled for the main PPV of the year - Starrcade - where the new WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Champions will be announced! Kendrick and London give up their belts...

... Former tag team champions CM Punk and Samoa Joe come out at the ramp. Punk calls their win last night a fluke and demands a rematch. Dusty says WCW doesn't accept automatic rematches, but Dusty sets up a match for them at World War III because he wants to see this fight one more time. (79)

Match 2: Mesias (w/ James Mitchell) vs Johnny Swinger. Mesias easily dealt with his opponent, finishing him off with a Mesias Splash from the top rope. (2:42) (54)

Post-match, Dustin Rhodes is here. He demands a match against Abyss. Mitchell agrees that Rhodes won at Halloween Havoc, and Mitchell promised to think about it. But after consulting with the spiritual leader, they decide that Rhodes hasn't earned it yet. Dustin then challenges them both - Abyss and Mesias - to a match at World War III. Rhodes will find a tag team partner. And if they win, Rhodes gets a match with Abyss under whatever rules he can come up with. (74)

Backstage, Low Ki asks Dusty Rhodes for a WCW Cruiserweight Championship rematch. Dusty again says there is no tradition of "automatic rematches" in WCW, but Low Ki will be able to earn one for himself in his next match. (65)

Shawn Michaels in-ring promo. He is furious about another car hit-and-run, especially involving his close friend, Lance Storm. Previous one on HBK was when he had his problems with Goldberg. This one, again, when Storm pissed off Goldberg in his match. He suspects Goldberg and demands an explanation. But Goldberg doesn't show up. HBK figures that Goldberg just doesn't have anything to say. Shawn will find him himself and get him to explain himself. Michaels leaves the ring. (91)

Match 3, #1 Contendership for WCW Cruiserweight Championship: Low Ki vs Kaz Hayashi vs Sonjay Dutt vs Frankie Kazarian. Low Ki and Hayashi collaborate until the end.  And it looked like Low Ki might be able to earn his rematch, but Dutt knocks him out of the ring and then jumps with a somersault. Hayashi catches Kazarian with the Hayashi Cutter for the win. (11:12) (67)

Backstage, Ric Flair returns to his locker room and finds there...  an unconscious and bloodied Arn Anderson! Flair calls for help. (75)

Goldberg has just arrived at the arena, and he's only now learning about Shawn Michaels' earlier comments. (79)

Match 4: Jerry Lynn vs Sabu. Lynn appeared so overwhelmed by Sabu's push that he was even going to leave the match altogether. Still, he forced himself back in and even managed to grab the lead. At the end, Sabu misses a Top-Rope Legdrop. Lynn goes outside the ring, where he grabs a chair and attacks Sabu. Disqualification. (10:29) (75)

Post-match, Jerry Lynn continues to beat Sabu down and prepares him for the Cradle Piledriver on a chair... Fit Finlay comes out and saves Sabu! Despite the fact that just yesterday they were opponents, Finlay helps Sabu up.

Steve Corino pre-match promo. First, he says that Arn Anderson turned his back on the Horsemen and got what he deserved. And second, Corino is going to win the World War III and get a WCW World Heavyweight Championship match at Starrcade. (75)

Match 5: Steve Corino vs Billy Kidman. Kidman's dominance frustrates Corino throughout the match. In desperation, Corino resorts to a low blow followed by an Old School Superkick, securing the victory. (5:56) (78)

Post-match, Corino continues to beat down Kidman, but Sting makes a save!

WCW World Heavyweight Champion Chris Kanyon announces his tag team partner for the main event. Kanyon decides to enlist the help of the 'Enforcer' - CW Anderson. Rey Mysterio appears and his tag team partner is... BOOKER T!

Match 6: Chris Kanyon and CW Anderson vs Rey Mysterio and Booker T. Mid-match, Chris Kanyon lands a low blow on Rey Mysterio and sets up for the Flatliner. Suddenly, Ric Flair runs out, immediately clashing with CW Anderson! The two battle their way toward the arena exit, drawing Kanyon's attention. This distraction provides an opening for Mysterio to land a 6-1-9, followed by Booker T's signature Axe Kick. 1...2...3. (13:40) (90)

Goldberg enters the arena to clarify he wasn't responsible for attacking Shawn Michaels months ago, nor did he target Lance Storm recently. While admitting to issues with the HBK and acknowledging his frustration with Storm, Goldberg says that he doesn't resort to such tactics. Shawn Michaels appears on the titantron. He reveals he's spoken with Storm, who fortunately hasn't sustained serious injuries. Lance will be present at the next Nitro, and by then, he should have evidence indicating their attacker. Until then, Goldberg is presumed innocent. But Bill better pray it doesn't turn out to be him, because then Shawn Michaels will handle the matter personally. (100).

Flair and Anderson brawl at ringside, allowing Kidman to land a Shooting Star Press on Corino. 1...2...3. (11:13) (82)

Dusty Rhodes invites WCW United States Champion Rey Mysterio to the ring to announce his decision. Everything is ready: table, chairs, and papers to sign to relinquish the title if Rey decides to do so. Rey Mysterio comes out and gives a speech saying that 2002 was a very successful year for him. Rey won the biggest award of his career. Mysterio talks about how important this title is to wrestling and to Rey personally. On the other hand, Rey almost became WCW World Heavyweight Champion and knows he could finish the job next time. So it's a tough decision...

... But before he can announce it, he is interrupted by WCW World Heavyweight Champion Chris Kanyon. Kanyon suggests that the US title is Mysterio's zenith and advises him, as a friend, to retain it and celebrate. In response, Mysterio states that while the US title has been a pinnacle in his career, with the support of his fans, he's aiming for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. Mysterio signs the papers! Kanyon immediately attacks him. A brawl ensues and Rey Mysterio emerges victorious! Rey throws Chris out of the ring with a hurricanrana. Dusty Rhodes announces that at World War III, Chris Kanyon will defend the WCW World Heavyweight Championship against Rey Mysterio! (97)

Booker T does a pre-match promo. He says that Eric Bischoff promised him a world title match for his participation in the War Games. And Booker will definitely hold Eric accountable. But he himself is determined to win World War 3 and get a title shot at the main PPV of the year - Starrcade. (83)

Match 6: Booker T vs Chris Hero. Chris Hero got a chance to try his luck in the Nitro main event. And he impressed the crowd. He avoids a Harlem Sidekick, hitting Booker with a Disqus Lariat. Hero's Welcome attempt... Booker T blocks it. After a series of counters, Booker T nails an Axe Kick for the win. (14:24) (78)

Backstage, Rey Mysterio and Chavo Guerrero leave the building, with Chavo supporting Rey's decision, as "that's exactly what he advised".

Lance Storm comes to the ring with bandaged ribs. He is ready to name a person who did the hit-and-run on him at Halloween Havoc. Storm says he's not seriously injured, but will definitely be out of in-ring action for at least the rest of the year... Shawn Michaels shows up. HBK wishes Storm well. Also, he is eager to learn the perpetrator's identity. Storm reveals that while the attacker avoided most security cameras, he overlooked one. Detectives watched the video... Goldberg interrupts them! He gets in the ring and reiterates that he's not solving his problems this way. And he himself wants to know who did it. Lance responds that one of the detectives himself is ready to name the attacker. The detective is live on the titantron. He reveals that the car that hit Storm was registered to... Goldberg! Without hesitation, Michaels tackles Goldberg, initiating a brawl. The referees and officials rush to the ring, trying to separate them. The show goes off the air at this point. (89)

WCW World War III 2002

Styles and Dragon are looking to regain the tag team titles - and this match is an important stepping stone on that path. Jindrak and O'Haire have asserted themselves as a serious force and are also on their way to the titles. Mark and Sean corner Dragon, but Dragon manages to tag in Styles. AJ takes control initially, but Jindrak catches him  into a tilt-o-whirl slam. O'Haire is tagged in, quickly grounding Styles with a massive big boot. Dragon interrupts the pin. Styles fights back and hits Jindrak with a tornado DDT. Dragon kicks O'Haire out of the ring. And follows with a plancha. However, O'Haire catches him and launches him into the steel steps. Back in the ring, Styles jumps onto the top rope. O'Haire pushes him right into the arms of Jindrak, who delivers a back suplex into Rock Bottom. O'Haire then finishes AJ with a Senton Bomb. 1...2...3. (14:12) (76)

Dustin Rhodes backstage interview. He refuses to reveal his mystery partner, but promises that the man is quite experienced and will definitely help him out. (60)

Match 2: Jerry Lynn vs Sabu. It's a brutal contest. Lynn surprises Sabu with a Ligerbomb. 1...2. Sabu fights back, knocking Lynn down before landing a springboard somersault legdrop. 1...2.  Sabu climbs the top rope again, Lynn attacks him and does a German superplex! 1...2...NO! Sabu grabs a chair. The referee intervenes. They argue. Lynn takes advantage of the confusion and knocks Sabu down. Cradle Piledriver! 1...2...3. (14:11) (73)

WCW Cruiserweight Champion Elix Skipper backstage interview. And he is kinda frustrated that he rarely gets those interviews. But that's about to change because he's on track to become a legend in the cruiserweight division. (47)

Match 3: ‘American Nightmare’ Dustin Rhodes and mystery partner vs Abyss and Mesias (w/ James Mitchell). Dustin Rhodes makes his entrance, followed by his surprise partner: Curt Hennig! The duo wastes no time, dishing out punches to their opponents. Mesias soon hits Hennig with a Spear. Abyss knocks Rhodes out of the ring with a big boot. Mesias and Abyss take over the lead. Belly-to-belly suplex by Mesias on Hennig. Spear attempt but Rhodes helps his partner out. Series of great suplexes by Hennig showed that Curt is still going great. An accidental ref bump. Mitchell hands Abyss a bag filled with thumbtacks. Abyss tries a Black Hole Slam on Hennig onto the tacks, but Hennig counters with a DDT on the very same tacks! 1...2... Mesias interrupts the count. Mitchell, now armed with a chair, steps onto the apron. Hennig evades a charging Mesias, who collides with both the chair and Mitchell. Hennig then delivers the Hennigplex, followed by a BlackOut from Rhodes. 1...2...3. (14:08) (71)

Booker T backstage interview. He returned to WCW with one ambition: to become a five-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion. Tonight's WW3  is a pivotal move towards that. (73)

Match 4, WCW Cruiserweight Championship: Elix Skipper vs Kaz Hayashi. Elix Skipper goes for the Play of the Day - unsuccessfully. Skipper gets caught by the Hayashi Cutter. Pin... Petey Williams runs out to the ring and distracts the ref. Kaz knocks Petey out of the ring. Skipper attempts to hit Kaz with a brass knuckle, but Hayashi dodges and delivers a Hayashi Cutter! 1...2...3. We have the NEW WCW Cruiserweight Champion! (16:11) (68)

Steve Corino backstage interview. He promises that 2003 will be his year. He will enter the year as WCW World Heavyweight Champion, having won at tonight's World War 3 and then at Starrcade. (64)

Match 5, WCW World Tag Team Championship: Brian Kendrick and Paul London vs CM Punk and Samoa Joe. CM Punk and Samoa Joe are determined to reclaim the titles. As reigning champions, Kendrick and London exude more confidence than in their initial match. Brian Kendrick receives the hot tag and takes control. He executes an Asai Moonsault on Punk and Joe. Punk is pinned. 1...2. Kendrick tags in London. Samoa Joe counters with a powerslam on London. 1...2. CM Punk enters the ring with the championship belt, but London dodges a shot, which inadvertently strikes Joe! Kendrick quickly delivers Sliced Bread #2 on Punk, while London executes a stunning Shooting Star Press. 1...2...3. (16:01) (80)

Hype video for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship match. (81)

Match 6, WCW World Heavyweight Championship: Chris Kanyon vs Rey Mysterio. It's a very important match for Rey Mysterio. He gave away the biggest prize in his career, WCW US Championship, just for that match. So Rey is determined to do everything it takes to win. All high risk maneuvers. All innovative moves. Although Kanyon had some innovations up his sleeve himself. Rey nails Kanyon with an enzuigiri: 1...2. Mysterio bounces off the ropes but is met with a forceful elbow strike: 1...2. Kanyon retaliates with a neckbreaker modification and applies a Camel Clutch. Rey reaches the ropes. Mysterio reverses the momentum, placing Kanyon on the ropes... Chavo Guerrero makes his way to the ringside... Rey runs for 6-1-9, but stops as he sees Chavo. He's upset. He asked him to stay away from it! Kanyon uses this distraction to hit a Flatliner out of nowhere! 1...2...NO! Kanyon argues with the referee. Rey hits him with a dropkick to the back. It hurts the ref as well. 6-1-9 by Rey! West Coast Pop! Pinfall, but there's no one to count. Mysterio tries to bring the ref back to life. Chavo attempts to give him the championship belt! He persuades him to use it. Rey refuses.... Chavo disappointedly lowers his hands down… and out of nowhere hits Rey with the championship belt! Kanyon finishes Mysterio with a Flatliner. 1...2...3. (17:44) (88)

A video showing the history of the returning traditional Battle Royal. The MOST important 30-men Battle Royal in professional wrestling This match was first held in 1995 in three rings. Then it was repeated until 1998. The winners were Randy Savage, Giant, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash. 2002 is the year that World War Battle Royal returns. In the one ring. But still for the big prize: the winner gets a WCW World Heavyweight Championship match at Starrcade. (73)

Match 7, Battle Royal: Air Paris, Alex Wright, Billy Kidman, Christopher Daniels, CW Anderson, Chris Hero, Claudio Castagnoli, Crowbar, Chavo Guerrero, Sting, Frankie Kazarian, Fit Finlay, Glen Gilberti, Hernandez, Homicide, Hugh Morrus, Jamie Noble, Goldberg, Matt Sydal, Petey Williams, Shawn Michaels, Steve Corino, Ric Flair, Booker T, Johnny Swinger, Yang, Mike Sanders, Shannon Moore, Shane Helms, Sonjay Dutt. Throughout the match, Goldberg and Michaels seized every chance to fight each other. Early on, several competitors were quickly eliminated, leaving the primary contenders: Shawn Michaels, Goldberg, Kidman, Daniels, Cal Anderson, Finley, Flair, Homicide, Corino, Booker T, and Castagnoli. Daniels and Homicide collaborated to take out Kidman. The Horsemen work together, gaining control of the match. They eliminate Ric Flair. Then they target Booker T, but Finlay and HBK join to help him. Booker's Harlem Sidekick sent Castagnoli out of the ring. Daniels goes to the top rope, Homicide attacks him and prepares for Superkick... Finlay attacks them and eliminates both! He turns around... Spinebuster from CW Anderson! Finlay is eliminated! we have the Final 5: Shawn Michaels, Goldberg, Anderson, Booker T and Corino. As Michaels and Goldberg focus on each other again, Anderson and Corino go after Booker T. Horsemen are close to eliminate him... but Ric Flair returns! Flair attacks Anderson with so much energy, that CW is quickly eliminated. Flair and Anderson continue to fight throughout the arena. HBK and Goldberg are so engrossed in their fight... that they fall down out of the ring together! They are eliminated! And also continue to fight at ringside. Corino attempts a Superkick on Booker... Booker T dodges and hits a Harlem Sidekick, knocking Steve out of the ring. Booker T wins! (28:26) (82)

Post match, Booker T celebrates. Now he will fight for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship at Starrcade! With that, World War III ends.

WCW Monday Nitro
Episode #76

Last night's big winner, Booker T, opens the show. He thanks everyone for their support. He has proven everything to everyone. He promised to win World War 3, he won World War 3. Now he will go to Starrcade, the main show of the year, the arena where the best of the best succeeded. He will be performing at the show where true legends were made. And Booker will join their ranks, becoming a five-time (five-time, five-time...!) WCW World Heavyweight Champion!...

... Current WCW World Heavyweight Champion Chris Kanyon is here to disagree. He calls Booker's victory a joke. The same way as Booker T is a joke. Kanyon won the title 8 months ago. This makes his championship reign one of the longest in recent WCW history. WCW was a joke until Kanyon became the champion. Chris Kanyon took the company to the next level, gave the company credibility, and gave the company a reason to be proud of their champion. Booker T is the same joke from the old WCW. They are on different levels. And it will be seen at Starrcade. (100)

Match 1, 1/8 Finals for WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship: Super Crazy and Tajiri vs Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley. Fans are happy to see the familiar Crazy and Tajiri. Will they be able to advance in the tournament and maybe get permanent WCW contracts? We'll see. But they had a great showing in the match against the rather green and young Shelley and Sabin. Crazy blocks a double suplex and puts his opponents down with a double DDT. Tag to Tajiri. Tajiri knocks Shelley down with a Buzzsaw Kick. Sabin attacks him but gets caught in a Tarantula, meanwhile Crazy finishes the lying Shelley down with a Moonsault. (4:43) (66)

Backstage, Elix Skipper and Petey Williams Skipper is determined to get a rematch. But Williams says it's his turn to challenge for the WCW Cruiserweight title and he's already arranged a match at the next Nitro. And Petey is counting on Elix for help. Elix isn't very happy about it. (43)

Dustin Rhodes and Curt Hennig backstage interview. Hennig is excited to be back in WCW. And since Rhodes and Hennig got the victory last night, Mitchell must accept the challenge. Rhodes wants a match with Abyss at Starrcade. (60)

Match 2, 1/8 Finals for WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship: Elix Skipper and Petey Williams vs Los Maximos (Joel Maximo and Jose Maximo). Los Maximos have established themselves quite well in the indie scene. They showed a couple of indie style moves, but had a tough time against the more experienced WCW stars. Williams executed a Canadian Destroyer on Jose Maximo to win. (5:56) (74)

An intriguing video hyping Eric Bischoff's "the latest and the greatest new signing".

CM Punk and Samoe Joe backstage interview. They don't care about "the new star signing" from Bischoff. Probably some other old addicted veteran. The future of WCW is with the young. Them. They have their sights set on the WCW United States Championship now. They're both in qualifying matches for Starrcade. So they intend to win them and then dominate the Starrcade match as the team. (65)

Match 3: Brian Kendrick vs Yang. Yang wasn't bad, but WCW tag team champion proved too skilled for him. Yang misses a leg kick and gets a Sliced Bread #2 from Kendrick. (8:09) (79)

Post match, Mark Jindrak and Sean O’Haire attack Kendrick. They manage to do some serious damage to him before the ref and officials show up, followed by Paul London. (80)

Rey Mysterio in-ring promo. He demands that Chavo Guerrero come out here. No one shows. Rey wants to know why Chavo did this. He - from all the people - knew how much last night's match meant to Mysterio. Rey finally got his first real shot in 2002. He gave up the WCW United States Championship for that chance. But because of Chavo, he lost everything. Tonight, Rey has to start all over again, competing in a qualifying match for the US title. Mysterio wants Guerrero to come out here and explain himself. Still, no one comes out. (74)

Match 4: Claudio Castagnoli vs Billy Kidman. These wrestlers were the first to earn a spot in the ladder match for the WCW United States Championship at Starrcade. It's about time we see them in a singles match. Castagnoli pulled ahead using savvy tactics. Kidman blocks Castagnoli's Neutralizer with a DDT and follows up with a Shooting Star Press. Kidman gets the important win. (10:27) (67)

Sting backstage interview. He recalled how Steve Corino cost him a shot at the United States Championship and vowed that Corino wouldn't get away with it. (59)

Match 5, Qualifying for the WCW United States Championship Ladder Match: Rey Mysterio vs CM Punk. An even match until Rey Mysterio dodges a split-legged moonsault by Punk. Rey rolls up his opponent. 1...2.  Attempted hurricanrana, but Punk reverses that into a powerful sit-out powerbomb. 1...2. Pepsi Twist attempt, Rey blocks and delivers a bulldog to the second rope. 6-1-9! West Coast Pop - Punk dodges and delivers a DDT. 1...2.  CM Punk climbs the top rope and prepares Mysterio for the Pepsi Plunge.... Rey blocks... At that moment, Chavo Guerrero sneaks in and hits Rey! That's enough for Punk to perform the Pepsi Plunge for the win. (14:20) (84)

CW Anderson backstage interview. He talks about how Ric Flair not only cost him the WCW United States title match last week but also interfered with his chance to win at World War 3. Does Flair need a match with him that badly? Then CW agrees to destroy Ric once and for all. Starrcade would be the right place for it. (64)

Match 6, Qualifying for the WCW United States Championship Ladder Match: AJ Styles vs Steve Corino. The match proved to be worthy of the main event. Corino blocks an enziguri and grabs Styles in a Cloverleaf. Styles turns it into a roll up. 1...2. AJ's attempt to grab the lead ends with an inverted DDT from Corino. 1...2. Pele kick out of nowhere by Styles! Styles Clash attempt... Corino blocks and goes on the apron. Both men fight there. Styles wins and hits a brainbuster on the apron! Back to the ring. 1...2. Styles climbs the top rope... SPIRAL TAP... missed! Corino immediately puts him down with a German suplex. 1...2...NO! Both men are up. Old School Superkick by Corino! 1...2...NO! Steve Corino is pissed. He knocks out the ref and goes outside the ring for a chair. Corino is ready to finish AJ with it... Sting runs in and grabs the chair! Big right punch from Sting. And Styles Clash by AJ! 1...2...3. (15:37) (77)

Shawn Michaels in-ring promo. He hypes his upcoming match against Goldberg at Starrcade, what would have been a "dream match" under different circumstances. And Michaels would want this match to feel like a celebration. A fair wrestling match. Shaking hands after the match. To see who was better. But Goldberg made it too personal. And now at Starrcade, they're going to have a real battle on their hands. Goldberg wanted to kill Michaels by hitting him with a car? Now Shawn Michaels will do anything to take down Goldberg at Starrcade. (91)

WCW Monday Nitro
Episode #77

TONIGHT: In the main event, Ric Flair and Booker T will face Chris Kanyon and CW Anderson. Also tonight, we'll find out the remaining two participants in the ladder match for the WCW Unites States Championship at Starrcade, and we'll also see a match for the WCW Cruiserweight Title! (75)

Match 1, 1/4 Finals for WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship: Super Crazy and Tajiri vs Frankie Kazarian and Matt Bentley. Stacy Keibler appears during the match, taking notes at ringside. Kazarian and Bentley are maintaining pressure with rapid tags to isolate Super Crazy. But Crazy turns the tables with a double DDT on a combined suplex attempt and tags in Tajiri. With an agile handspring elbow, Tajiri takes down Kazarian and locks in the Tarantula. As the referee intervenes, Bentley lands a low blow on Crazy. Bentley capitalizes with a Superkick on Crazy to secure the victory. (7:10) (70)

WCW World Heavyweight Champion Chris Kanyon in-ring promo. He says that in life, the truth always beats the lies. And the truth is that Chris Kanyon is the innovator, the most technical wrestler in this company and the man who makes the most energetic, most electric, most exciting matches. Plus he's the longest reigning champion in recent WCW history. And Booker T was turning that very WCW into a joke. Kanyon's one championship is worth Booker T's four joke championships he so often brags about. At Starrcade, Kanyon will defend the title again….

… World War 3 winner Booker T is here. He says that Kanyon dominated most of 2002 because Booker T was away for most of 2002. But that's going to change now. Because Booker is back, Booker won the WW3, and Booker is going to Starrcade for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. (98)

Match 2, 1/4 Finals for WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship: Teddy Hart and Jack Evans vs Colt Cabana and Julio Dinero. Cabana and Dinero moved on through the tournament by defeating local lightweights Andy Douglas and Chase Stevens, who call themselves The Naturals, at WCW house show. Tonight, they'll be facing a match against what announcers have been hyping as the "Next Generation Hart Foundation". Hart and Evans pick up another surprise victory when Evans delivers a 450 Splash on Dinero. (5:37) (63)

James Mitchell backstage promo. Mitchell accepths the challenge from Rhodes on behalf of Abyss. Starrcade it is. And it's going to be Rhodes' funeral. (56)

Match 3, Qualifying for the WCW United States Championship Ladder Match: Christopher Daniels vs Sabu. Daniels starts strong, dominating the match, but Sabu quickly reverses the momentum with a hurricanrana. Sabu's attempt at an Asai moonsault misses, giving Daniels the opportunity to seize Sabu with the Angel's Wings and claim the victory. (7:01) (79)

Post match, Christopher Daniels grabs the mic. He announces that it's Fallen Angel's time. Ladder matches are his specialty. Daniels goes to Starrcade to get the biggest win of his career and walks away as the new WCW United States Champion. (67)

Steve Corino in-ring promo. He came to WCW over a year ago to dominate. Before that, Corino wrestled in ECW. Then in the indie confederations. People like Sting couldn't last there. Sting is a prima donna. He's been a franchise player in WCW his whole life. Got contracts. Got main eventing. Got a title shots. Got titles. A diva like that couldn't stand that in ECW you had to spill blood to get paid. He couldn't stand that for 50 bucks in the indies you had to make a really great match. And if the match didn't turn out to be a five-star match? You don't get invited back the next day. And your family won't have anything to eat. But how would Sting know that? He was on a fat contract from AOL Warner before, he's on a fat contract with WCW now.  He's going to get paid either way. And Corino has nothing against it. But last week, Sting interfered with the careers of real fighters and prevented Corino from regaining the United States title at Starrcade. Steve won't forgive that. And since he has a free night at Starrcade, he's going to end Sting's pathetic greenhouse career on this day...

... Sting is here to respond! He agrees that he's spent his entire career in WCW. But not because of the comfort of it. But because it's the best company on Earth. Because it has the best competition in the world. It has the best fans in the world. They know wrestling. And you can't be bad if they've been waiting for you in the ring for almost 15 years. Here, you can make a name for yourself as a hero. Or as a scumbag, attacking the weak. Corino chose the latter, and Sting didn't like it. Sting wants the best in this company - in *his* company - to be the best. To win. And Sting is going to make sure that happens. He will do the same he did all his career: protect the future stars from the scumbags like Corino. As for Starrcade - he accepts the challenge...

... We have an intense staredown here. And it ends with a brawl! Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli immediately show up to help their leader, but Sting fights them off! Horsemen eventually leave the ring. (81)

Match 4: Mark Jindrak and Sean O’Haire vs John Cena and Johnny Swinger. Again the potential of Cena and Swinger was apparent, but Jindrak and O'Haire were in a completely different league. Jindrak knocks Cena out of the ring with a dropkick and Swinger gets the Widow Maker. (4:13) (78)

Post match, Jindrak and O’Haire continue the beatdown. This is the ultimate rookie destruction! It feels like they want to send a message to all the other teams. But WCW Tag Team Champions Brian Kendrick and Paul London run out to the ring. A brawl ensues, which the officials are forced to break up. (76)

A new video hyping how the "new superstar" and "Eric Bischoff's biggest acquisition" would soon appear in WCW and change the company forever.

CM Punk and Samoa Joe backstage interview. As always, Punk does the talking. He calls Samoa Joe "the most dangerous man in WCW". And tonight, Joe would make a name for himself in singles action, defeating Jamie Noble and getting to the WCW United States Championship match at Starrcade. (60)

Match 5, WCW Cruiserweight Championship: Kaz Hayashi vs Petey Williams. Elix Skipper runs out to the ring to help his partner. But he misses and accidentally attacks Williams! Low Ki runs in and immediately attacks Skipper. In the ring, Hayashi hits a Hayashi Cutter on Williams for the win. (7:57) (75)

Chavo Guerrero in-ring promo. He's ready to say -  why he prevented Rey Mysterio from becoming the WCW World Heavyweight Champion at World War III. Chavo reminds us that Rey won the internet award for "The Best Progress in 2002". And that's not fair. Because Chavo did more than anyone else in this year. But what did he get in return? Nothing. Not a chance. In fact, he was off the TV for almost 2 months after the big win over the legend Ric Flair. But Chavo was ok with it. After all, the world isn't fair. It's a fact. He accepts it. He even wanted to help Rey beat this world. Chavo knows it, but Rey coundn't accept the truth: you can't win fair here.  What's that fairness for? To make all those stupid fans happy? No. Chavo tried to show it to Rey. But he was too blind and too stupid to see. Enough. Now Chavo Guerrero's only gonna be thinking about himself.... Rey Mysterio has heard enough - he runs to the ring, but Chavo manages to escape. (78)

Match 6, Qualifying for the WCW United States Championship Ladder Match: Samoa Joe vs Jamie Noble. Noble showed that besides jumping, he's also good at technical wrestling and takedowns. He took Joe down a couple times and did some pretty interesting and painful holds. And it looked like Joe was going to lose for the first time in WCW in a singles match. But the Samoan caught Noble with a powerslam. 1...2. Noble makes an attempt to regain the lead and climbs the top rope. CM Punk shows up and grabs his leg! Joe attacks his opponent and delivers a Muscle Buster. Koji Clutch and that's it. (8:05) (80)

Tony Schiavone meets Rey Mysterio backstage. Rey says he's lost everything: a chance to be the WCW World Heavyweight Champion, the WCW US Championship, a friend who was family to him. But he will make it through. He'll rise up. And he starts by challenging Chavo to a match at Starrcade. (62)

Match 7: Chris Kanyon and CW Anderson vs Booker T and Ric Flair. Kanyon and Anderson dominated Flair until it came down to a hot tag to Booker T. Booker immediately grabbed the lead and targeted Kanyon. Flair kicks Anderson out of the ring and grabs him in a Figure-Four Leglock at ringside! The referee tries to break the hold. In the meantime, Kanyon strikes Booker T in the head with the championship belt. Flatliner! 1...2...3. (10:12) (81)

Post match, Booker T wants a revenge, but Kanyon grabs the belt and escapes to the ramp.

Last Nitro ended with a Shawn Michaels promo. Goldberg shows up this time. Did he have a problem with Shawn Michaels from the beginning? Yes. That's because HBK came here, to WCW, to Goldberg's house, and acted like he owed everyone here. Being the arrogant prick he always was. Just because Shawn won a couple matches with another company a couple years ago doesn't make him privileged here. He needs to earn he place on the top here. And to do that he needs to go through Goldberg. Goldberg vs HBK. Yes, it could be a dream match. If it weren't for Shawn's accusations that Goldberg was driving that damn car. If Shawn himself hadn't decided to make a war of it. But since that's what happened? Then Goldberg will finish Michaels off at Starrcade. (87)

WCW Monday Nitro
Episode #78

TONIGHT: Shawn Michaels and Goldberg will be in action tonight. And they still not allowed to touch each other until Starrcade.

WCW World Heavyweight Champion Chris Kanyon opens the show. He says he has given the honor back to the World Championship and the entire company. He has given them their pride back. The World Title is now a badge of honor. The biggest prize in professional wrestling today. And for that, the fans are booing him? Without Kanyon, they would still be the object for jokes from other wrestling fans for watching WCW. WCW, which waa a joke, a garbage, until Kanyon took matters into his own hands.  Chris is the most charismatic, most innovative, most technical and toughest champion there has ever been...

... One person who disagrees with that is... Ric Flair! Flair reminds us that the WCW World Heavyweight Championship dates back not to last year, but much further back. And it's been held by the best champions. Therefore, no honor has been returned to him by Kanyon. It's an honor to hold that title. And speaking of charismatic champions... Flair carried that title and made him the pride of wrestling world...

... Kanyon responds that Flair is long gone.  To which Ric disagrees and suggests we find out in the ring. Tonight. At Monday Nitro! Chris Kanyon accepts the challenge and as soon as Flair turns away, strikes him in the head with the championship belt. (100)

Match 1, 1/4 Finals for WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship: Jamie Noble and Matt Sydal vs Sonjay Dutt and Yang. We continue our coverage of the Open Cruiserweight Tournament, the finalists of which will determine the new WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Champions in a match at Starrcade. Dutt and Young defeated the team of Amazing Red and Shark Boy at the house show (we saw the video highlights). Noble was a head and shoulders above everyone in the match. He was the one who caught Dutt with the Tiger Suplex and Sydal finished the match with his 630 Splash. (6:54) (78)

Elix Skipper and Petey Williams backstage interview. They promise to win tonight in their quarterfinal match, but the conversation quickly turns to last week, where Skipper accidentally prevented Williams from becoming WCW Cruiserweight Champion. Williams is not happy about that fact. And Skipper is unhappy that he wasn't told "thank you" for at least his intentions. (45)

Stacy Keibler joins the announcers for the next match. She says that she is looking for potential clients that she intends to bring to the top as a performance coach. She has her secrets on how to properly motivate.

Match 2, 1/4 Finals for WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship: Elix Skipper and Petey Williams vs Shane Helms and Shannon Moore. The miscommunication between Skipper and Williams was evident in this match as well. Moore and Helms, with their extensive experience together, easily capitalized on it. Williams goes for the Canadian Destroyer on Moore, but Helms grabs him from behind and does the Nightmare on Helms Street. Moore kicks Skipper out of the ring while Helms does the pin. (8:09) (77)

Jerry Lynn backstage promo. He's got a chance to reclaim his WCW Cruiserweight Championship tonight. And he promises to do just that. (50)

Rising Pain (Kaz Hayashi and Low Ki) backstage interview. I'm not good at Japanese, but I think Hayashi is unhappy with Low Ki's willingness to help Kaz a week ago and doesn't want his help tonight. (54)

Match 3: Billy Kidman vs CM Punk vs Claudio Castagnoli. A little warm up before the ladder match at Starrcade. Kidman found himself alone against two men. He managed to avoid the Neutralizer at the end. Kidman hits Claudio with the Kid Krusher and climbs the top-rope... Punk attacks him and delivers a Pepsi Plunge for the win. (6:49) (79)

Match 4, WCW Cruiserweight Championship: Kaz Hayashi vs Jerry Lynn. Jerry Lynn was very eager to regain the title. He avoids the Hayashi Cutter and goes for the Cradle Piledriver... block. Hayashi misses a springboard forearm and gets the Liger Bomb. 1...2. Lynn goes for the Cradle Piledriver again, and again Hayashi blocks and goes for a running knee strike...accidentally knocking the ref down! Lynn immediately hits a superkick and gets out of the ring. The championship belt is in Jerry's hands! Low Ki runs into the ring against Hayashi's wishes and knocks Lynn down with a leg kick! Hayashi takes his opponent down with the Hayashi Cutter. 1...2...3. (8:03) (78)

Post match, the champion realizes he's been helped again. And he's not happy about it. Hayashi pushes Low Ki away, grabs the belt and leaves the ring.

Match 5: AJ Styles vs Samoa Joe vs Christopher Daniels. And another triple threat from the participants in the ladder match at Starrcade. Styles and Daniels team up against Joe. Samoa Joe catches them with a double suplex. Joe sends both of them to the corners - and each gets a running knee to the jaw. Joe puts Styles down with a sitout powerbomb. 1...2. Daniels breaks up the pin. Daniels and Joe fight. Styles comes to life and gives Joe a Pele kick! A tornado DDT on Daniels follows. AJ climbs up the top-rope... Frog Splash! 1...2. Daniels kicks out. Styles climbs the top-rope again. Daniels attacks him. Both men are fighting on the top-rope. Samoa Joe attacks both, pushes Daniels out of the ring - he hits the barriers head-first - and Styles gets the Muscle Buster and Koji Clutch. The referee is forced to stop the match. (13:29) (81)

Video vignette about "the biggest signing of Eric Bischoff". This person is coming soon to WCW. Now we know a date: Nitro #80, the first Nitro after Starrcade and the last one (season finale) in 2002.

Chavo Guerrero in-ring promo. He has given his entire career to WCW and the fans. He wrestled with integrity. He wrestled for them. He didn't leave for a more popular company when he had a lucrative offer. All his life he has been in the shadow of his uncle Eddie Guerrero. When the ship called WCW started to sink, all the fan favorites quickly bolted for the big dollar. Including his uncle. Chavo stayed. Chavo stayed even when WCW had one foot in the grave. But still couldn't step out of the shadows. Now? Now everyone's talking about Rey Mysterio. Rey this, Rey that. But Chavo isn't going to be in the shadows anymore. If that's what it takes for him to beat Rey at Starrcade, then so be it. Guerrero accepts Mysterio's challenge. In fact, they were before in this place... Last year at Starrcade Chavo beated Rey in a great match, and he will do it again. (81)

Match 6: Goldberg vs Mesias (w/ James Mitchell). Mesias proved himself a worthy opponent. Plus the interference of James Mitchell helped. Goldberg managed to take Mitchell down at the end, but immediately got an inverted DDT from Mesias. Sharpshooter attempt from Mesias, Goldberg blocks and takes his opponent down with a leg kick. Spear follows right away, followed by a Jackhammer. (5:40) (78)

Post match, Abyss and Mesias attack Goldberg. He tries to fight, but the forces are clearly not equal. Dustin Rhodes runs in to make a save. (75)

Match 7: Shawn Michaels vs Sean O’Haire (w/ Mark Jindrak). HBK took the lead until a mini-intervention by Jindrak. O'Haire grabbed the lead and used power moves to dominate. Gutbuster by O'Haire. 1...2. O'Haire whips his opponent into the ropes but gets a flying forearm. HBK gets ready for the Sweet Chin Music.... Jindrak climbs up for an apron. He is immediately attacked by Brian Kendrick and Paul London! O'Haire climbs up and gets his Sweet Chin Music with a pin to three. (10:15) (78)

Match 8, Non-Title: Chris Kanyon vs Ric Flair. Kanyon realized what he was up against when he got a cheap kick to the leg. From now on all of his "innovation" disappeared when Flair started torturing his leg, keeping him down. Ric Flair goes for the Figure-Four Leglock, but Kanyon blocks and does a DDT. 1...2. Chris lifts Rick up for a powerbomb, Flair lands some punches to the head, jumps off and rolls Chris up into a pin. 1...2. Kanyon goes for the Flatliner, Ric rolls Chris up again and grabs him in a Figure-Four Leglock.... no, Kanyon pushes Rick out of the ring with his foot. The referee checks on the champion's condition. In the meantime, CW Anderson is here! Devastating Spinebuster on Flair at ringside! Anderson rolls Flair back into the ring... Flatliner by Kanyon! 1...2...3. (12:36) (76)

Post match, CW Anderson continues to beat Flair down. Booker T makes a save. Harlem Sidekick on Anderson! Harlem Sidekick on Kanyon! Chris escapes, leaving Anderson to get the Axe Kick. Booker helps Flair up.

WCW Monday Nitro
Episode #79

TONIGHT: Shawn Michaels and Goldberg will face off one-on-one... but not in a match. They'll get a chance to say whatever they want to each other to each other's faces. (77)

Match 1, 1/2 Finals for WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship: Jamie Noble and Matt Sydal vs Frankie Kazarian and Matt Bentley. Noble and Sydal are starting to become a pretty good team. Noble hits a standard Tiger Suplex on Bentley at the end. Sydal climbs onto the top-rope... 630 Splash... Kazarian manages to pull Bentley out of the ring at the last moment. Noble attacks him outside the ring and grabs him in a choke hold! While all this is going on, Bentley climbs back into the ring and quickly rolls Sydal up into a pin to three. (15:11) (77)

Match 2, 1/2 Finals for WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship: Shane Helms and Shannon Moore vs Teddy Hart and Jack Evans. Teddy Hart and Jack Evans surprised everyone by reaching the semi-finals of the tournament without having full-time WCW contracts. But the fairy tale ended when Helms caught Hart with a Vertabreaker followed by a Moonsault from Moore. (15:25) (76)

Post match, Moore and Helms don't have time to properly celebrate before they are attacked by the other finalist - Kazarian and Bentley. (62)

ANNOUNCEMENT: At Starrcade, a fierce fatal 4-way bout for the WCW Cruiserweight Championship is set: Kaz Hayashi vs. Low Ki vs. Elix Skipper vs. Petey Williams.

Match 3: Rising Pain (Kaz Hayashi and Low Ki) vs Elix Skipper and Petey Williams. Considering they would all be in a fatal 4-way match in 6 days, both teams suffered from a miscommunication. It ended in a global brawl as each competitor started jumping outside the ring on the others. Everyone continued to brawl outside the ring and the ref was forced to end the match on the double count out. (7:38) (76)

Match 4: Dustin Rhodes vs Steve Corino. Dustin Rhodes grabs the lead and is on his way for the BlackOut when suddenly - ironically - the lights go out. And when it comes back on, Abyss and Mesias are in the ring attacking Rhodes, bringing the match to a disqualification. (6:14) (75)

Post match, Abyss and Mesias take Rhodes to the ramp, where Curt Hennig comes to help Dustin! Hennig, Rhodes, Abyss and Mesias continue to brawl on their way backstage. Steve Corino stays alone. And the lights go out in the arena again! And when it comes back on, it's Sting standing behind the unsuspecting Corino! Scorpion Death Drop to the fans' excitement. (72)

Performance coach Stacy Keibler will be watching the next match.

Match 5: AJ Styles, Billy Kidman and Christopher Daniels vs CM Punk, Samoa Joe and Claudio Castagnoli. Very dynamic preview of the ladder match for the vacant WCW United States Championship at Starrcade. Daniels was a little mismatched for his team. And apparently that played a part. Daniels accidentally hits the ropes just as Kidman was preparing for the Shooting Star Press. Castagnoli with a big boot knocks Daniels out of the ring and follows. Joe and Styles also fall out of the ring. And Punk performs a Pepsi Plunge for Kidman. 1...2...3. (15:05) (79)

Video vignette: Eric Bischoff will reveal his newest and “the biggest signing” at the first Nitro after Starrcade.

Match 6: Chris Kanyon and Chavo Guerrero vs Booker T and Rey Mysterio. Booker T brought his team to the lead at first, but soon Kanyon and Chavo with a series of quick tags seized the advantage and isolated Rey. Chavo taunts Mysterio in every way possible. Apparently this is what pissed Rey off, as he hits a dropkick to the knee and then knocks Chavo out of the ring. Rey jumps Asai Moonsault out of the ring! Back in the ring, Booker T tries to get to Kanyon. Chris dodges a Harlem Sidekick... Flatliner attempt... Block. Rey tries to get back in the ring, but Chavo hits him with a low blow and whips into the steel steps. Booker T goes for an Axe Kick on Kanyon, but Chavo hits him with an eye poke from the apron. Booker T gets the Flatliner. 1...2...3. (14:09) (94)

Post match, Chavo Guerrero attempts to hit Booker with a Frog Splash… but Rey Mysterio stops it. Top-rope hurricanrana by Mysterio! Booker T kicks Kanyon out of the ring.

WCW Commissioner Dusty Rhodes is here. WCW announcer Dusty Rhodes says that Goldberg and Shawn Michaels have been trading their promos for weeks. Now it's time to say everything to their faces. Rhodes invites both participants in the match to Starrcade….

… Shawn Michaels says he's been in the best arenas in the world, he's done five star matches, he's won titles. But the match at Starrcade is more than that. Here he will be fighting for himself and his friend Lance Storm. Yes, it is a "dream match". But it's more. This is going to be a very real war that Shawn Michaels is determined to win...

… Goldberg replies that he's used to solving all his problems in the ring. And at Starrcade, he will do just that. He will face HBK one-on-one in the ring. Goldberg then turns the page and ends the whole Shawn Michaels thing by ending Shawn Michaels himself. HBK and Goldberg come face to face...

… and it comes down to a fight! To a brawl that is completely illegal! Goldberg goes for the Spear, but HBK ducks and is already making a Sweet Chin Music attempt... which Goldberg dodges. The wrestlers go to their corners. Starrcade is in six days! And that's the end of the show. (100)

WCW Starrcade 2002

Here, in the AstroDome, Houston, TX… We kick off the biggest show of 2002 - WCW Starrcade!

And first to appear in the arena is... Ultimo Dragon! The former WCW Cruiserweight Champion, former J-Cup holder (9 different championships at the same time!), and "founding father" of the WCW Cruiserweight division gets a proper announcement. He's here to present the vacant WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship and award the winners later. (32)

Match 1, WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship: Shane Helms and Shannon Moore vs Frankie Kazarian and Matt Bentley. Moore and Helms showcase their lifelong friendship through their in-sync performance, even though Kazarian and Bentley display strong teamwork too. The match is a roller coaster. 3 Count lay Kazarian out with a reverse 3D. 1...2. Camel Clutch from Helms on Kazarian. Bentley pops up to make the save but gets kicked by Moore. Helms delivers a missile dropkick from the top rope to Kazarian, Moore makes the pin attempt. 1...2.  Bentley jumps into the ring and delivers a series of dropkicks and backdrops. Flying elbow from Bentley onto Moore! 1...2...NO! Helms breaks the pin. Bentley hits Helms with another backdrop and goes to the top rope again... Flying Elbow... MISSED! Helms goes for the Vertabreaker.... Kazarian attacks Helms and hits a gutbuster. 1...2... Moore breaks the pin. Backbreaker by Moore on Kazarian. Moore climbs up on the top rope.... Stacy Keibler comes to the ringside... Low Blow on Moore! Moore goes down, gets up... Superkick by Bentley! Moore falls right into the Wave of Future. 1...2...3. We have the NEW WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Champions! (13:54) (72)

Post match, Ultimo Dragon comes in to hand over the belts, but you can see that  he's not thrilled with how things went down. He says something to the champions. Stacy Keibler gives the order to her new clients... and Kazarian and Bentley attack Dragon! Wave of Future by Kazarian! Flying Elbow by Bentley! (52)

Match 2, WCW Cruiserweight Championship: Kaz Hayashi vs Low Ki vs Elix Skipper vs Petey Williams. A great cruiserweight match. Low Ki puts Williams in the tree of woe and hits a low dropkick. 1...2. Skipper breaks the pin. Elix prepares a move, Hayashi attacks him and does the STO. 1...2. Low Ki and Hayashi perform a Flatliner/Bulldog combo on Petey Williams. They go up... Hayashi hits a Hayashi Cutter on Low Ki! 1...2... Elix Skipper breaks the pin and tosses Hayashi out of the ring - he hits the barriers. Play of the Day on Low Ki! 1...2...3. We have the NEW WCW Cruiserweight Champion! (14:40) (82)

Match 3, No Holds Barred: Dustin Rhodes vs Abyss (w/ James Mitchell). The match turned into a brawl again. Soon there were chairs, trash cans and even a table in and around the ring. Mitchell repeatedly tried to interfere until he got a kick to the head from Rhodes. This allowed Abyss to grab the lead and deliver a splash in the corner. Black Hole Slam! 1...2...NO! Rhodes kicks out. Abyss pulls a barbed wire baseball bat out from under the ring! The commentators are hysterical. This has never happened in WCW before (according to them)! Dustin avoids a hit and does an eye poke. Neckbreaker by Rhodes!  Abyss starts to get up and gets the BlackOut! 1...2...NO! James Mitchell climbs into the ring, but Rhodes catches him and places him in the corner of the ring for the Shattered Dreams! The fans are ecstatic. Mesias rushes to the ring to save the manager.  But he is met halfway by Curt Hennig. Rhodes sprawls out to finish off his manager with a signature low blow... A masked man enters the ring. Is this a famous 'Spiritual Leader' of Mitchell? He attacks Dustin Rhodes and delivers a DDT! Abyss finishes Rhodes with a Black Hole Slam through a table. 1...2...3. (12:42) (81)

Post match, a masked man enters the ring and shows his face. It's... RAVEN!

Mark Jindrak and Sean O'Haire backstage interview. They call the current  WCW tag team division a joke. It makes sense that the champions here are the skinny Kendrick and London. Now Jindrak and O'Hair are here to dominate. And at tonight's Starrcade, they intend to take the WCW Tag Team Championship. (74)

Match 4: Sting vs Steve Corino. Sting pounces on Corino, and at first they fight more outside the ring than inside. Steve Corino manages to whip Sting into the steel steps. Back in the ring, Corino attacks Sting's leg. Sting was able to grab the lead at the end. Stinger Splash! Another Stinger Splash! Scorpion Deathlock attempt, but Sting's leg is too damaged for this hold. Corino rolls him up. 1...2.  Corino grabs Sting himself in a Scorpion Deathlock! Sting is in a lot of pain, but he refuses to give up. Steve Corino dominates the match. But gets caught with a DDT! 1...2...NO! Sting goes for the Scorpion Death Drop.... Corino blocks and does the Northern Lights Bomb! 1...2...NO! Old School Superkick! 1...2...NO! Corino goes for another Northern Lights Bomb.... Sting blocks, Scorpion Death Drop attempt... low blow by Corino! Northern Lights Bomb! 1...2...3. (16:12) (80)

Match 5, WCW World Tag Team Championship: Brian Kendrick and Paul London vs Mark Jindrak and Sean O’Haire. Kendrick and London were completely unimpressed with their more athletic opponents. They used quick moves, looking to defend the titles. Kendrick and London with a double dropkick knocking both opponents out of the ring. Suicide dive from London onto Jindrak. Kendrick misses with a slingshot splash on O'Haire. Sean takes Kendrick down with a lariat at ringside. Attempted running splash - missed - O'Haire crashes into the steel post. It hurts. That's how Kendrick and London get the advantage. Enziguri in the ring from London to O'Haire. Paul climbs up onto the top rope... Wait, there is some guy in a baseball cap. What he's holding? It's a steel cane. And he hits London with the cane! It's... MIKE SANDERS! London falls down and gets a Widow Maker. Jindrak knocks Kendrick out of the ring, and O'Haire makes a pin. 1...2...3. We have the NEW WCW World Tag Team Champions! (15:20) (81)

CM Punk and Samoa Joe backstage interview. Punk reminds us that both he and Joe have defeated their current opponents in recent matches. Joe is the most dangerous man in WCW. Punk is good at strategy. Tonight, their opponents won't stand a chance of walking away with the WCW United States Championship belt. Punk will either take it himself or his "project" Samoa Joe will do it. Joe doesn't really like being called a "project". (67)

Match 6: Ric Flair (w/ Arn Anderson) vs CW Anderson. CW Anderson was objectively more powerful and athletic than Flair. He grabbed the lead from the start and even had the opportunity to taunt the legend a bit. He throws Flair into a steel post back-first a couple of times. Spinebuster attempt, but Flair blocks, explodes with a series of chops and delivers a jawbreaker. 1...2. Anderson goes for a leg kick, Flair catches him and turns it into a Figure-Four Leglock! CW reaches the ropes. Eye poke by Anderson! Devastating Spinebuster! 1...2...NO! Anderson argues with the referee. Arn Anderson checks on his friend's condition. CW sees this and argues with Arn. Arn pushes CW! CW Anderson swings for a punch, but at that moment Flair rolls him up into a pin and grabs the tights. 1...2...3. (14:52) (82)

Match 7, Ladder Match, WCW United States Championship: AJ Styles vs Billy Kidman vs Christopher Daniels vs CM Punk vs Samoa Joe vs Claudio Castagnoli. CM Punk and Samoa Joe were immediately paired and quickly became the favorites in the match. As you might expect, the wrestlers showed a lot of interesting ladder spots.Joe and Punk are destroying all of their opponents. And Punk is about to climb for the title. But Joe stops him! Punk and Joe argue. And Joe hits Punk with a Muscle Buster! Joe climbs for the title himself, but Castagnoli topples the ladder with him. Claudio climbs to the top... Kidman attacks him. Kid Krusher off the ladder! Kidman doesn't even have time to catch his breath before he gets Angels Wings from Daniels. Daniels climbs to the top. AJ Styles jumps off the ropes onto the ladder! Styles and Daniels battle up top. AJ wins and hits a Styles Clash from the ladder!  Everyone is down. Punk now climbs to the top. He is soon joined by Styles. And then Joe! Punk goes for the Pepsi Plunge on Styles from the ladder.... But then Joe reaches for the title! Punk decides to let Styles go and reaches for the belt himself. AJ attacks both of them, slamming both of their heads into the ladder! Punk and Joe go down, and Styles takes the belt. We have the NEW WCW United States Champion! (17:30) (93)

Match 8: Rey Mysterio vs Chavo Guerrero. Epic rivalry continues. It’s Mysterio-Chavo, part II, a sequel from the last Starrcade. A very intense and very personal match for both competitors. Chavo Guerrero catches Mysterio during a springboard moonsault attempt...and hits with a Gory Special! 1...2...NO! Chavo grabs Rey in a Gory Stretch. Mysterio kicks out and rolls Chavo up. 1...2. Tornado DDT by Rey! 1...2 Springboard dropkick by Rey. Chavo falls on the second rope. 6-1-9! Rey goes for the West Coast Pop, Chavo catches him and delivers a powerbomb and then immediately grabs in a half-Boston crab! Rey manages to get to the ropes. But Guerrero immediately puts Rey down with a three rolling vertical suplex. Chavo climbs up the top rope... Frog Splash. Missed! Mysterio rolls Chavo up. 1...2...NO! Another vertical suplex by Chavo. Brainbuster! Guerrero climbs the top rope again for the Frog Splash. Rey gets up and attacks Chavo. Hurricanrrana off the top rope! Rey rolls Chavo up. 1...2...3! (16:09) (94!!!)

Post match, Chavo immediately attacks Rey and gives him a brutal beating. Guerrero injures Rey's leg by throwing steel steps on it. Mysterio requires serious medical attention.

WCW President Eric Bischoff comes out to the ring. “Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! Before Starrcade I’ve got a zillions of emails, messages on our internet board, about how excited you are about Starrcade. Quoting: “Starrcade feels like it got here so fast! I'm very excited for it.” I hope we didn’t disappoint you so far.” He thanks everyone who performed so far for great matches. We have a lot of good things ahead of us. Starrcade did come very fast, it’s true. 2003 is here. Over the past few weeks, Eric has been promising all WCW fans a bombshell. Yes, Eric has signed a big star. A lot of people don't believe him. A lot of people think it's some veteran. Or that Eric is exaggerating. But no. This is a "world champion" caliber acquisition. Man, this is an acquisition of caliber... Eric is willing to say that there has never been an acquisition like this in WCW history. And this new acquisition is coming tomorrow on Monday Nitro...!...

… Bischoff is about to leave, but is interrupted by ... DON CALLIS! Callis returns to WCW. Eric is clearly not happy. Don says don't let Eric unleash his guards and chain dogs on him just yet .Because Callis has an announcement to make as well. Eric might want to hear it. And Eric is not going to like it. Don couldn't deny himself the pleasure of doing it here at Starrcade, Bischoff's biggest show. Eric had defeated him at Fall Brawl, and Callis was gone. But he promised that it wouldn’t be the end. In the last couple months, Don accomplished a few things. Thanks to his influence at the TV network, Don got a slot for his own wrestling show called RAGE, which will run on Thursdays. And he's taking half of WCW's superstars with him!...

… Bischoff replies that it will only happen over his dead body. Callis says that either Bischoff will voluntarily give him half of his contracts, or Eric will lose his slot on The Score TV channel for his Nitro and all those stars will still go to him when Eric can't afford to pay them. Bischoff has time to think until tomorrow. Callis will be on Nitro tomorrow to find out Eric's decision. (91)

Wow.

That’s big.

Everyone is silent.

Match 9: Goldberg vs ‘The Heartbreak Kid’ Shawn Michaels. HBK pounces on Goldberg almost immediately. HBK used quick and technical moves as weapons against the power of Goldberg.
