C.W. Anderson vs. Julio Dinero

Comments: I've been off on this whole feud so far, but I think Dinero pulls off the win here.

It was started by a Russo-esque swerve before Dutch took over, give us a break :p But, for real, I appreciate you saying you're not digging it. Hopefully you get into it as I reach the destination I have in mind!

Oh no I just meant I've predicted wrong each time so far! Lol - I think the feud is perfectly good! I like the proteges taking on the master, and I'm a big James Mitchell guy.

Oh right! Haha, sorry buddy - my bad :) If it makes you feel better, The Sandman only won because he was pissed at me for making him lose the week before haha.

Standard Singles Match

Delirious vs. Glenn Gilbertti

Douglas joins us on commentary this week with Simon Diamond scheduled for action later tonight. He starts out by explaining to Scott Hudson that he attacked BG James because opportunity was calling. It’s time for The New Franchise to start making moves around here and they’ve started with the 3Live Kru because "you always go after the biggest Lion in the jungle". But, right now, Scott Hudson needs to forget about all that and just focus on the action in the ring.

And so does this narrator, not that there’s much action to speak of. Gilbertti is much better at being annoying than actually wrestling and Delirious is simply too inexperienced at this point in his career to topple the veteran. Glenn hits the Chart Buster and picks up a routine victory here.

We jump to a pre-taped promo in the interview room with the “Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels, clutching his TNA X-Division Championship over his shoulder. He says that the X-Division is now his domain and that it doesn’t matter who TNA put before him. Chris Sabin, Michael Shane, Kid Kash, AJ Styles. He has no intention of relinquishing that title any time soon.

As for Elix Skipper and Low-Ki, it seems that Triple X just cannot get away from one another. He thought they’d go their separate ways after they split up as a trio but the universe works in mysterious ways. He didn’t ask “Primetime” to help him win this Championship but he’s grateful for the assist and he intends to pay it back when he defeats Low-Ki on Wednesday and holds on to his TNA X-Division Championship.

Standard Singles Match

Chris Hero vs. Simon Diamond

This is our second time looking at Chris Hero, a savvy but relatively inexperienced technical wrestler. He fares a little better here against a competitor more his type but Diamond eventually finds his groove with the Simon Series. He gets a close near fall with that before the Simonizer sees him match Gilbertti’s victory from earlier tonight.

We flash to a pre-taped promo with James Mitchell, in a dimly-lit room as always. He says that on Wednesday, The Sandman learned what happens when you’re friends with Raven. As he stood in the ring, opposed to The Gathering’s generous offer that could end all his suffering, he was beaten to within seconds of retirement and saved only by C.W. Anderson.

He’ll get what’s coming to him for poking his nose in their business, he doesn’t have to worry about that. What Mitchell is more concerned with is what happens once both The Sandman and C.W. are done playing hero for Raven. Will he toss them aside for his own jealous pursuits just as he tossed CM Punk and Julio Dinero aside? He tells the boys that it’s simple, when you’re friends with Raven, bad things happen. But when you join The Gathering, you’re part of an entity much bigger and stronger than yourself.

“Quote The Gathering, nevermore.”

Standard Tag Team Match

Gutter & Vordell Walker vs. Samoan Connection (Ekmo & Sonny Siaki)

Shane Douglas says he’s paying close attention to this one, he likes Ekmo and Siaki and they might be New Franchise material. Gutter & Walker do their best but if anything, their attempts to fight just prolong their punishment further. Siaki hits the Siakalypse on Gutter and Ekmo squashes him with the Wild Monkey Splash for the victory.

We join Jeff Jarrett in his private locker room, with “The Monster” Abyss guarding the door in typically imposing fashion. Jarrett says that the power struggle between himself and NWA has been going on long enough, they sent in Erik Watts to undermine his authority. They are TNA Management and they don’t need no NWA stooges around here!

But Jeff is glad that Erik has proposed the Control of TNA Clash because it’s time for Watts and his corrupting influence to go away. He doesn’t go over to Cyberspace, nor has he been seen in Florida recently. Bill Behrens doesn’t have to deal with Watts poking his nose in NWA Wildside business neither! No, he’s only ever making sure that TNA follows the NWA’s beck and call and Double J doesn’t like the smell of that favouritism. In two weeks, it ends for good and Jarrett takes back his authority, his rightful ownership and control of NWA: TNA!

As for Sting, Jarrett knows he’s back on Wednesday and he can guarantee that Team Jarrett will be paying him a visit.

Standard Singles Match

Dragon Kid vs. Kid Kash

Scott Hudson calls Dragon Kid one of the most exciting free agents in the Japanese wrestling scene. He’s definitely an athletically gifted talent but an unknown commodity that doesn’t quite have flight in his wings with the TNA faithful just yet. The two work an impressive contest that turns on a dime when Dragon Kid’s Top Rope Hurricanrana attempt is countered into a Powerbomb. This leaves the Kid easy pickings for the match-winning Money Maker from Kash.

Standard Singles Match

Bryan Danielson vs. Sonjay Dutt

Mike Tenay explains that just like former TNA X-Division Champion Michael Shane, Bryan Danielson was trained by Shawn Michaels and has experienced considerable success in RoH alongside recent tours of Japan. His game is mostly grappling, a stark contrast to Dutt’s speed and agility but the mismatch makes for an interesting encounter. Every time Sonjay gets rolling, Danielson stops him dead in his tracks.

But Bryan debunks any kind of suggestion that his game is mat based and therefore one dimensional, planting Dutt with a wonderful Tiger Suplex. With the “Playa from the Himalaya” stunned face down on the canvas, Bryan locks in the Cattle Mutilation and Dutt submits the match to fight another day.

We jump to Team Jarrett’s locker room where Don Callis is trying to motivate Northcutt and Legend. The two men stand stoically as they’re told to remember who they are and think what they’re capable of. They were bought in to Team Jarrett for a reason, they’re killers! And they just have to channel that...

But then Jeff Jarrett bursts in and immediately ends the friendly, more conciliatory tone of his Consultant. He tells the Red Shirts that he’s sick and tired of AMW and he put the Red Shirts on this task to deal with them. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on you for blowing a second chance! Jarrett gives them an ultimatum, deal with the “Wildcat” and the “Cowboy” tonight or they’re fired from the team!

If Red Shirt Security lose, they’re fired from Team Jarrett!

America’s Most Wanted (Chris Harris & James Storm) vs. Red Shirt Security (Kevin Northcutt & Legend)

Mike Tenay senses that Northcutt & Legend are fighting with more urgency tonight and it is true that they get the better of the early exchanges, especially considering the beating they got last week. Legend in particular looks impressive here and Don West ponders if a different alliance might unleash some of that controlled aggression. He cuts off Storm attempting the Last Call and hits him with a Cutter before a hot tag brings in both Northcutt and Harris.

This is where everything breaks down and despite Red Shirts earlier successful tactic of trying to put the beating on Storm, they find themselves drawn into a slug fest mano a mano. This is, again, bad news for Northcutt & Legend, the latter of which is taken out by the Catatonic. Northcutt is left alone and soon falls prey to the Death Sentence, a fitting move given the circumstances.

Back in the Team Jarrett locker room and Don Callis is trying to calm down the NWA World Heavyweight Champion by reminding him that there are still other matches tonight, there’s no need to do something hasty, it’s time to calm down and consider their next move carefully. They have strength in numbers and they can still use the Red Shirts, we just have to change our course.

However, as soon as Northcutt and Legend return, Jarrett tells them that he was serious about his earlier ultimatum. They were given numerous opportunities and they’ve failed one time too many! Now he has “The Monster” Abyss on his side, he doesn’t need their protection anyway. They’re fired from Team Jarrett, get out!

Don Callis shakes his head and advises Jeff to think about this decision but Double J repeats himself and orders Northcutt and Legend to hit the road as he himself storms off to regather his emotions, Callis in tow trying to assuage his temper as best he can. Legend and Northcutt glance at one another before the former removes his red shirt, passes it forcefully into the chest of the latter and slowly walks away, leaving Northcutt all alone.

Standard Singles Match

AJ Styles vs. David Young

Don West calls this a great opportunity for David Young, both to score a big upset and to get in Jarrett’s good books with the Champion in such a foul mood tonight. He does manage to assert himself with his signature Spinebuster but unfortunately it’s too close to the ropes and Styles falls out of the ring. Once returned, the respite has given AJ enough to spring his shoulder up before the three, much to the chagrin of his opponent.

Young goes to the well again but “The Phenomenal One” has it scouted this time, turning the Spinebuster into a Tornado DDT before the Pele Kick (or as Don calls it,
“THE PELE!”
) is the perfect prelude for the Styles Clash and the 1-2-3.

We jump to the Team Jarrett locker room for a third time tonight where Gilbertti and Diamond have just arrived and are already squabbling. Glenn first brings up that Swinger couldn’t get the job done against AJ Styles, he promised he’d sort it out! Simon returns in form about Gilbertti’s tag team partner, David Young. He just lost, why wasn’t Gilbertti on hand to help him out?

Glenn says he heard about what happened earlier on so he was staying out of dodge. Out of sight, out of mind. But Simon Diamond has no clue what has happened and his being out of the loop amuses Gilbertti greatly. He starts ribbing him about the meetings he hasn’t attended and how clueless he seems to be about the organisation he is supposedly loyal to...

ElclwUV.jpg

This is when Jarrett storms in to immediate remarks in his direction from Gilbertti and Diamond but he shuts them both up. He’s tired of hearing their arguing and their bickering, he’s already had to fire two members of Team Jarrett tonight and he’s in no mood to hear their excuses. Whatever their differences are, they need solving now!

When Gilbertti asks how they should mend this divide, Jarrett lectures him. Does he have to figure out everything? He doesn’t care what they do, the in-fighting stops or both of them will face the music. Jarrett storms off again and the final shot is of both Diamond and Gilbertti shrugging their shoulders, neither man any the wiser on how they’re going to bridge this gap.

In their lair, The Gathering address their upcoming encounter with C.W. Anderson. James Mitchell promises that Anderson will receive what he’s due for getting involved where he wasn’t wanted. He could have just stayed at home, he could have wrestled somewhere else, he could have stayed put in the dressing room and carried on slugging a Bud Light! All of those would have been more advisable life choices than catching the ire of The Gathering.

Punk says that he and Dinero learned the truth about Raven and it’s a shame that others have to be given the same lesson. Raven doesn’t care about anybody but himself, not that he’ll ever be back in TNA anyway after his skull was spiked onto a solid steel chair. But it is sad to him that The Gathering have to keep delivering the same sermons to the masses. He doesn’t blame The Sandman for his alcohol-fueled stupidity, he doesn’t expect any better but he thought a wise veteran like C.W. Anderson would have more sense than to fight the corner of his old co-workers.

Julio finishes with confidence, he has the trust of both Punk and Mitchell to go out into the ring and sort their business by himself. After gifting The Sandman his victory last week, that’s exactly what Julio will do this week and he will atone for his previous deeds. C.W. picked a fight with him and tried to hit him with that Anderson spinebuster but it’s not too late for him to see the light.

Standard Singles Match

C.W. Anderson vs. Julio Dinero

C.W. is a pure brawler with little finesse so it’s no surprise that Dinero looks for more impactful offence followed by holds to try and slow the pace and wear down Anderson’s energy reserves. It doesn’t make for an particularly exciting match and the audience inside the Asylum is little interested in either of these two competitors. What follows is largely lacking in energy even though the action is solid.

Julio looks for the Jalapeno Popper but C.W. manages to shift his weight and slide off his opponent’s shoulders. After a reversal on the irish whip, Anderson plants Dinero with his signature Spinebuster and leaves Julio staring at the lights.

In the locker room of The New Franchise, Shane Douglas has his arm around Michael Shane as Traci stands off to one side. He might have been disappointed to have lost his TNA X-Division Championship and even more frustrated about TNA refusing to clear him to compete because of his injury but it’s time for them to change their focus. They’ve held singles gold, now it’s time for tag team gold, the kind that is befitting of a group of their magnitude.

Michael listens attentively as Shane Douglas explains the situation. He’s got into the head of the 3Live Kru, he’s put BG James in the emergency room and tonight he’ll do the same to Konnan. After he wins tonight, who else could the NWA possibly consider as No. 1 Contenders to those World Tag Team Championships?

Traci agrees with them and tells Michael Shane to think about what it would mean for his career if he belonged to the same lineage as The Miracle Violence Connection, The Hollywood Blondes or The Four Horsemen. Douglas finishes by remembering when Ricky Steamboat took him under his wing and led him to tag team glory. It made him who he is today and The New Franchise will make Michael Shane just the same.

TNA X-Division Championship

Standard Singles Match

Christopher Daniels © vs. Low-Ki

Despite Elix Skipper having interfered in the Ultimate X match, he’s nowhere to be seen here and both Tenay and West ponder why, maybe he isn’t actually in cahoots with Daniels? These two Japanese Junior like wrestlers know each other very well, both as opponents and as former tag team champions so it’s no surprise they put on a very good competitive match here. Daniels goes for the B.M.E. but lands only on Low-Ki’s raised boots, just as Low-Ki’s Double Foot Stomp finds only the canvas, Daniels having rolled out the way when the move was telegraphed.

Daniels hit an Enzuigiri but a stunned Low-Ki responds with a Savate Kick, both men hitting the mat, both men failing to land the defining blow. Low-Ki goes for the Ki-Krusher but only gets the “Fallen Angel” up about halfway before a counter into an Inside Cradle has Daniels escaping with the flash pinfall victory.

Don West ruminates that this match was always going to be defined by such a narrow margin and that Low-Ki will surely be back for another shot sooner rather than later.

Standard Singles Match

Konnan (w/ Ron Killings) vs. Shane Douglas (w/ Traci)

Mike Tenay explains that BG James is expected to be out injured for a couple of weeks and that NWA will hold an emergency meeting over the weekend concerning the status of the NWA World Tag Team Championships. Konnan is out for revenge here and starts out on the front foot with an array of different strikes, including a stiff Lariat and a Spinning Heel Kick.

He does hit The 137 but the commentators are stunned when he doesn’t go for a cover. His insistence on delivering punishment instead of winning the match comes back to bite him when hostilities between Traci and Ron Killings on the outside occupy the attention of Andrew Thomas.

q7q19UM.jpg

“Here comes the cavalry for The New Franchise!”

Although Michael Shane himself doesn’t have much impact (he’s immediately decked by a Lariat), the distraction gives Douglas time to unsheath the chain, wrap it round his knuckles and strike Konnan once between the eyes. Traci points to the ring and as Andrew Thomas returns his attention back to match, the 3 count is academic with The New Franchise getting out of dodge as quickly as they arrived.

As Ron Killings is sighted checking on the wellbeing of one of his brothers in the Kru for a second week running, we jump to the announce table where the commentators hype the debut edition of TNA iMPACT! and inform us that a second match has been made official for the broadcast. America’s Most Wanted will take on Team Jarrett’s Simon Diamond and Johnny Swinger.

Don West says the match has huge implications, we could very well find out the newest contenders for the NWA World Tag Team Championships in this match. You don’t want to miss it!

Standard Singles Match

Sting vs. Kid Kash

Kash starts out fast here, trying to put away “The Icon” with a series of roll-ups before the effects of Sting’s offence take too great a toll on his smaller and thinner frame. But when he gets press slammed to the canvas, it’s obvious that a different strategy is required. He tries slowing the pace, hoping that maybe his stamina is superior and he can gradually tire out the Stinger and even the odds that way.

This doesn’t work either. Whatever Kash tries Sting has an answer for it. He looks for the Money Maker but Sting escapes the predicament with raw power courtesy of a Back Body Drop. Kash looks for Dead Level but Sting is too strong to be hit with the Brainbuster and Kash only gets a Suplex of his own for his troubles. When Kash does floor Sting with a Neckbreaker, he attempts a Double Jump Moonsault but the pool is empty and he is promptly trapped in the Scorpion Deathlock. With the pain in his ribs too great and Sting’s strength just too much to handle, there’s little hesitation at all in Kid Kash’s frantic tapping out.

After that victory, Sting ascends the turnbuckles and celebrates with the raucous crowd, their reaction befitting of his megastar status. He covers all sides of the arena, making sure everybody gets a good look at “The Icon” and goes home happy.

ElclwUV.jpg

“The NWA World Heavyweight Champion has just appeared on the stairwell!”

But then Jeff Jarrett arrives, pointing and shouting, remonstrating clearly about the idea that he should be defending the NWA World Heavyweight Championship against the Stinger. He arrives by the announce table side of the arena, which leaves Sting facing away from the ramp...

GzneTVl.jpg

“Here comes The Monster! It’s all an elaborate ruse!”

Abyss charges down the ramp and ambushes Sting with clubbing blows to the back and precise punches to the ribs and the kidney area as the Stinger tries backing up into the corner to protect himself. Sting does get some fight going against Abyss but then Jarrett and Kash join in the assault with Don West comparing this to a pack of wolves picking on a helpless mule.

Abyss takes Sting up in the Torture Rack position but then sits out, sending a whiplash through the spine of “The Icon”. Mike Tenay says he’s never seen that move before but Sting is in agony in the ring, trying to hide his grimace by burying his face into the canvas but not convincing anybody. We fade to black with Team Jarrett standing tall and both announcers questioning whether Sting will make it to the building for the Control of TNA Clash next week.

At the announce desk, Scott Hudson gets his journalism on and probes Simon Diamond on last week’s locker room argument between himself and Glenn Gilbertti. Diamond cannot understand what the problem is, Swinger wanted to fight on his own against AJ Styles and the team was happy with that. We jump to a pre-taped promo inside a relatively well-to-do and luxurious enough looking bar, where Shane Douglas and Traci are dressed fancy (by the standards of pro wrestlers anyway), enjoying the lifestyle that comes with being The New Franchise. Douglas says they’re celebrating, first the pop to BG James’ teeth that has had him running scared and then the victory over Konnan. He’s real proud of his handiwork and so is Traci, who is proud of her boys for finally taking what is theirs instead of waiting for it.</span></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Book Antiqua';"> </span></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Book Antiqua';">

Douglas is looking forward to next week’s Control of TNA Clash because whoever comes out victorious will have a date with him and his rightful claim to a tag team title shot. PREVIEW - NWA:TNA on PPV #79

NWA:TNA on PPV #79 Preview

CARD SUBJECT TO CHANGE

Wednesday, Week 4, January 2004

Over the weekend, Dutch received a rather unwelcome phone call from the NWA President, Bill Behrens.

62XMFQW.jpg

“Due to the circumstances, we have moved to vacate the tag team championships.”

Dutch knew this was just part and parcel of TNA’s membership within the National Wrestling Alliance. They used their primary championships but it didn't make the decision any less frustrating. He asked for time to rectify the situation.

“The decision has already been made Dutch. We’ll need to vote on new champions, which we haven’t had the opportunity to do yet...”

After several frantic phone calls with other members of the NWA to try and rectify the situation, including Billy Firehawk…

auI264U.jpg

“YOU TOLD ME YOU DIDN’T WANT TO WORK WITH CYBERSPACE! NOW YOU GOT A PROBLEM, YOU WANT TO WORK WITH CYBERSPACE!”

Well, that one didn’t go too well. Perhaps it was a bad idea to have terminated the working agreement with CSWF.

But Dutch decided to go ahead and do a title match anyway, better to ask for forgiveness rather than permission.

NWA: TNA on PPV! #79

Wednesday, Week 4, January 2004

Live from Tennessee State Fairgrounds

Attendance: 1,500 SOLD OUT

Announce Team: Mike Tenay & Don West

Standard Singles Match

Dragon Kid vs. Elix Skipper

Mike Tenay brings up that we still haven’t had an explanation from “Primetime” about his involvement in Ultimate-X 2 and his motives for pulling Low-Ki off the overhead wires. Don West postulates that maybe he’s looking for a Triple X reunion with Daniels but he wonders how keen the “Fallen Angel” is on that idea now he’s holding singles gold.

Skipper has little time for wayward thinking of that sort here though, he’s against one of Japan’s more exciting Junior heavyweights. This match is everything that has put the X-Division on the map: high flying, fast paced and all action from the very beginning. Dragon Kid nearly has it sewed up courtesy of a Deja Vu, the multiple rotations on his headscissors leaving Skipper in a daze that he barely manages to fight out of when trapped in the subsequent crucifix pin.

The Kid goes for a Springboard Hurricanrana but is countered and planted with an authoritative Powerbomb for a close near fall. Proving that he’s a match in the athleticism department, Skipper leaps from the mat with both feet landing on the top rope and hits a Moonsault Press for a very close near fall of his own. The two are just trading bombs at this point but it comes to an abrupt end when Skipper sits out of a Tilt-A-Whirl Headscissors attempt, planting the Kid face and chest first on the canvas. This leaves him primed for the Play of the Day and “Primetime” takes the W.

We flash to a pre-taped promo in The Lair, the dimly-lit room that The Gathering have occupied for some weeks now. First, CM Punk lost to The Sandman and Julio Dinero lost to C.W. Anderson but this has been a learning experience. James Mitchell says they are better than the sum of their parts and now he knows beyond any shadow of doubt that The Gathering is better together. Strength in numbers, as the old adage goes.

CM Punk speaks up and thanks “Father Mitchell” for displaying to them their weaknesses. He understands the importance of making his understudies stronger when all Raven did was make them weaker so he could exploit their service. Mitchell isn’t competing with them, he doesn’t fear them, he believes in them and he’s taking them to greater heights than Raven ever would.

Dinero says that tonight they right their wrongs. Him and Punk lost when fighting solo but nothing can stop The Gathering united.

Standard Tag Team Match

C.W. Anderson & The Sandman vs. The Gathering (CM Punk & Julio Dinero) (w/ James Mitchell)

This one starts as The Sandman is still making his entrance through the crowd, C.W. electing not to burn daylight and go after Punk & Dinero on his own with a flurry of left hands. By the time his partner arrived at the squared circle, he had already flattened Julio Dinero with his signature Spinebuster and had Punk reeling in the corner.

The Gathering fight back though, thanks to the outstretched cane of “Father Mitchell” catching the boot of C.W. and leaving him tumbling into a CM Punk’s DDT. It’s mostly plain sailing from here, barring a short flurry from The Sandman and The Gathering’s togetherness pays dividends when they hit a Powerbomb Neckbreaker combination on C.W., the Near Death Experience closes this chapter.

We jump to the interview room where Scott Hudson welcomes an excited Jeff Jarrett. Tonight is going to be a great night for Team Jarrett! Their ranks are a little leaner now Abyss is handling their security, they’re all on the same page and Sting hasn’t turned up after last week’s “Shock Treatment”. Jarrett likes their odds of a clean sweep tonight: Kash, Gilbertti and then Erik Watts being shown the door, it doesn’t get better than that!

Hudson asks what happens if Jarrett loses tonight, a question that sours Double J’s mood but he says it’s written in the contract that Don Callis will be released should Erik Watts win. Those are the terms they agreed to and they will honour them (Hudson doesn’t seem so convinced) but Jarrett isn’t concerned, he founded TNA and as far as he’s concerned, nobody will ever take this wrestling organisation away from him.

Standard Singles Match

Don Harris vs. Kid Kash

Mike Tenay brings up that these two have had their issues for several months now, stretching back to Team Jarrett’s ultimatum. Don dominates the match as expected, given his obvious size and power advantage. He beats Kash from pillar to post but an assist tips the scales back in Kid’s favour.

RosTA5U.jpg

”They can’t help themselves, they have to get involved in each other’s matches...”

Glenn Gilbertti charges down the ramp and jumps on the apron but Harris knocks him down almost immediately. This isn’t the last of his involvement though, because as Kash makes the cover following a Bank Roll, Gilbertti grips Don’s outstretched right leg beyond Slick Johnson’s field of view and the referee counts the encumbered Harris down for the three.

Back in the interview room, Scott Hudson is standing by with BG James and Konnan, stripped of their NWA World Tag Team Championships due to an injury (or so the official statement goes). But BG James is perfectly fine, save a few stitches in his lip and a bruised conscience! He can’t understand why the National Wrestling Alliance rushed to such judgement but the 3Live Kru are used to fighting the system, they’ve been doing it their entire career and tonight is no different.

Konnan pipes up, Orale! BG is right, there’s nothing wrong with the 3Live Kru. “K-Dogg” tells Shane Douglas that his actions over the last two weeks have told everyone what kind of man he is. An ambush from behind, a concealed chain? Real men don’t fight like that where he comes from and tonight, the whole world finds out that The New Franchise are a couple of bitchachos! They’re gonna get punked the F out when the Kru goes rowdy and takes back what is rightfully theirs - those NWA World Tag Team Championships.

Standard Singles Match

AJ Styles vs. Glenn Gilbertti

This is a predictably one sided clash from the very beginning, with Styles proving his dominance and Gilbertti surviving most of the early exchanges. There are moments when Team Jarrett’s resident stooge (Mike Tenay’s words) manages to shorten the odds but only by more nefarious means. He makes the most of the referee’s 5 count when choking AJ in the corner, he gets in an inconspicuous blow that looks a little too far below the belt for Don West’s liking but by all accounts, Gilbertti needs a saviour here.

BmgLVF0.jpg

“Look who he’s here to bail their friend out of trouble!”

Simon Diamond comes down the ramp, charging at first but then slowing right down as he reaches the ring. Gilbertti is perplexed and even Styles looks a little confused but Diamond carries on standing at ringside, just observing the action and watching attentively as AJ Styles takes Gilbertti up and plants him with the Styles Clash for the victory.

As Gilbertti berates Diamond, who protests his innocence in a vaguely audible argument, we go over to the announce table where Mike Tenay and Don West hype TNA iMPACT! for next week and inform us that Roddy Piper will be there. We don’t know yet in which capacity the “Hot Rod” will be on the show or why he’s going to be on hand for us but tune in to find out!

NWA World Tag Team Championship

Standard Tag Team Match

3Live Kru (BG James & Konnan) vs. The New Franchise (Shane Douglas & Michael Shane) (w/ Traci)

The Kru turn this one into a donnybrook immediately before Michael Shane uses Traci as a shield and buys some recovery time. The rest of the match follows the same trend, with Shane Douglas diverting referee Rudy Charles’s attention towards Konnan trying to come in so The New Franchise can earn more real estate exercising their double teams.

Naturally, it all breaks down and Rudy Charles loses control of the action. Konnan goes for a Lariat but Michael Shane ducks and BG James bears the brunt of the impact. As “K-Dogg” turns back around, the butt of his jaw meets Michael Shane’s boot, his signature Superkick finding the mark! As Shane Douglas keeps BG locked down, Michael Shane collapses onto Konnan and Rudy Charles counts the elementary three to crown new Champions.

Wy40bV5.jpgUNqAu9P.jpg

As The New Franchise celebrate in the ring, BG storms off. He’s half way up the ramp when Konnan catches up and tries to explain what happened. James is having none of it and he blames “K-Dogg” for their defeat. Konnan argues back, does BG seriously think he did it on purpose? The argument escalates and the former champions exchange shoves in frustration at one another.

MQpWxGV.jpg

”Ron Killings is out to play peace maker!”

But “The Truth” gets between the two and tries to calm hostilities, pulling BG James to one side and directing more sentiments his way than towards Konnan. In the ring, The New Franchise struggle to contain their glee at the dissension in their rivals and sensing some bias himself, BG James storms off and leaves his two friends at the altar.

Control of TNA Clash

Jeff Jarrett (w/ Don Callis) vs. Erik Watts

Unfortunately for him, referee Andrew Thomas was never going to keep this one under control and his repeated attempts to impose his authority are met by all three competitors reminding him of their respective authority. Jarrett tries to stall but the larger, more imposing Watts pursues and the two of them brawl around the outside of the ring until Erik is given an introduction to the steel ring post.

The current “Director of Authority” does fight back and goozles Jarrett for a chokeslam but Don Callis attacks him from behind and has a deer in the headlights moment when the intimidating Watts turns around. Callis begs for mercy and Andrew Thomas thinks about throwing it out but Erik Watts warns him not to and clotheslines Callis out of the ring to the floor below.

But as he turns around, he’s met with Double J’s signature guitar shot! Jarrett stares daggers through the referee, making the cover as Andrew Thomas dithers.

SdnJkk8.jpg3u002Xz.jpg

“Will he count or will he throw it out?”

“I don’t know Mike but I’d hate to be Andrew Thomas right now!”

After a short delay, the referee finally acquiesces and counts Erik Watts down for the three.

<div style="padding: 20px; border: 2px solid #da251c; margin:15px;background: #dddddd; max-width:100%;";">

ElclwUV.jpgLgNP7OO.jpg

As our two commentators seeth at the conclusion nobody wanted to see (okay a few people probably wants Watts to lose), Jarrett and Callis, now recovered, celebrate in the ring together. Andrew Thomas attends to Erik Watts and several of the ring crew help him out of the ring as the dejected referee takes off behind them. He was put in a difficult position, says Don West, but he still counted the pinfall instead of ordering the disqualification.

Jarrett takes the microphone from our ring announcer Jeremy Borash and promises that TNA will be a better place now the “Director of Authority” is out of a job. He was interfering where he wasn’t wanted. They don’t send him anywhere else to oversee operations, only to TNA... well not anymore!

Don Callis takes the microphone and praises the referee for making the right decision, he chose TNA over the NWA, he’s a wise man! He tells the fans to tune into IMPACT next Wednesday for a very special Team Jarrett celebration as we go off the air with the two of them standing tall and Mike Tenay questioning what this means for the company now there’s new management in town.

TNA Xplosion!

Saturday, Week 4, January 2004

Live from Tennessee State Fairgrounds

Attendance: 1,500
SOLD OUT

Announce Team:
Scott Hudson & Simon Diamond

B4JTtoM.jpgvZvxtPt.jpg

M2l7m46.png

CM Punk vs. Vordell Walker

Hudson finds it curious that neither Mitchell nor Dinero are seconding Punk here but he doesn’t need their guidance anyhow. Whilst Walker does catch him with some strikes and is game for some grapples, Punk seizes the initiative with the Pepsi Twist. The Anaconda Vice follows the Welcome to Chicago and it’s a relatively routine victory for one of The Gathering.

Chris Harris says they’ve put the Red Shirt Security in their rear view but they are positive that Jeff Jarrett will find another challenge for them soon. When you’re AMW, you’re always ready.

James Storm congratulates The New Franchise on becoming the NWA World Tag Team Champions but warns them that they’re just keeping that gold shiny for the “Cowboy” and the “Wildcat”.

The S.A.T. (Joel & Jose Maximo) vs. Sinn and Slash

Joel and Jose Maximo are cousins of The Amazing Red, who is currently injured but is recovering well according to Scott Hudson. This is a showcase match for the two high flyers who capture the W thanks to a Double Spanish Fly on Sinn.

At the announce desk, Glenn Gilbertti confronts Simon Diamond...

Gilbertti heard everything that Diamond had to say about him last week on Xplosion and if he wants to prove his credentials as a singles wrestler, if he wants to show everybody how he has the killer instinct for Team Jarrett, why doesn’t he get in the ring and prove it?

Thanks to GG, Diamond has a match lined up with Sting in his near future and he better take him out or else he’ll face the consequences.

Ekmo & Sonny Siaki vs. Chris Vaughn & Rick Santel

It was always an uphill battle for Santel & Vaughn here. Although they do inflict significant damage on Siaki, Ekmo’s power proves to be too much and he pins Vaughn after the Wild Monkey Splash.

There are concerning scenes after the match as Siaki has to be helped to the back by medical staff.

Pre-taped promo with Jeff Jarrett and Don Callis...

In the Team Jarrett private locker room, Jarrett and Callis are still celebrating the eviction of Erik Watts as the “NWA Director of Authority”. They are in charge now and their first gift to us the fans is a match between Jeff Jarrett and Ron Killings on the very first TNA iMPACT.

Although Don brings up that Double J is the NWA World Heavyweight Champion, he’s quick to declare this will be a non-title match because there’s no way the fans could possibly think “The Truth” is deserving of a title shot. However, that’s the beauty of this match, it’s an opportunity for Ron Killings to show everybody what he’s capable of and it’s only happening because Team Jarrett runs the show.

mUL3IEq.jpg

D'Lo Brown vs. Bobby Roode

Hudson explains that Roode is a Canadian competitor that has cut his teeth in Scott D’Amore’s Border City Wrestling but is now looking for other opportunities outside of Canada. He has one here against D’Lo and certainly doesn’t put a foot wrong, making this a decent back and forth match by Xplosion’s standards. Roode certainly has the intensity and attitude to give anybody in TNA a competitive match.

But he’s overpowered and outgunned here in the end. D’Lo uses his experience to weather the storm and come back before putting Roode down for the three with the Lo Down.

Okay, so totally out of format but I thought I'd update you guys on what's happened around the game world.

WWE signed the following list of people:

Daffney, Shelly Martinez, Ken Shamrock, April Hunter, L.A. Park, Vader, Simply Luscious, Luna Vachon, Nicho el Millionario (formerly known as Psicosis of course), Shantelle Taylor, Persephone, Ayako Hamada, Mustafa Ali (he's 17 lol) & Amy Weber. They also signed both Traci Brooks and Trinity from me, although neither are set to join WWE formally for a little while yet.

Shawn Michaels won the Royal Rumble but the event will forever be remembered for its main event, when Brock Lesnar defeated Eddie Guerrero in a 99-rated match to retain the WWE Heavyweight title. The go-home RAW featured Triple H retaining the World Heavyweight title against Shawn Michaels in a 99-rated match also.

Molly Holly's contract came up, I tried to hire her but she decided to stay with WWE. Her re-signing, compounded by the signing spree of basically every female wrestler with an overness over 15 in the USA means that any plans I had of starting a women's division will probably have to go on the back burner. I also tried to sign Spanky but he decided to stay put too.

NJPW also went on a hiring spree and signed the following:

Naruki Doi, CIMA, Masato Tanaka, Kaz Hayashi, Kendo Kashin, Kintaro Kanemura, Naoya Ogawa, Yoji Anjoh, Masato Yoshino, Takao Omori, Masato Yoshino, The Great Sasuke & Satoshi Kojima.

CMLL hired Bob Orton, Chavo Guerrero Sr. and Yoshiaki Fujiwara. They're also stealing Octagon from AAA so that's sure to cause some tension.

CSWF hate TNA now because I terminated the working agreement in order to sign Michael Shane, Ron Killings, James Storm and Chris Harris to exclusive written deals.

And that's about all. I'll post a Championship update shortly and then on to the first iMPACT :)

Live on ESPN, we begin a new era of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling with the very first TNA iMPACT! AJ Styles vs. Kid Kash

Comments: He's your real franchise player, man.

America’s Most Wanted (Chris Harris & James Storm) vs. Simon Diamond & Johnny Swinger

Comments: If AJ is the #1 guy, then AMW is the #1 team

Konnan vs. CM Punk

Comments: I don't know if you plan to push Punk so early, so I'll go with a bigger name at the time

Ron Killings vs. Jeff Jarrett

Comments: Dirty victory, Double J has more momentum

Bonus Question

Who is the new signing debuting tonight?: It's a stab at the dark, but I'm gonna say Jeff Hardy. He went to TNA around this time, and his arrival would really solidify a new era in the company. Would make the first episode memorable too
