08.) "HEAVY METAL" VAN HAMMER

I smell a push

Van Hammer's story to this point is that he was on an undefeated streak until he ran into Cactus Jack, and now these two are having wild brawls all over the country at house shows. Rick Steiner is listed in Top 10 because he was competing as a singles guy with Scotty out injured until recently (even had a World title match against Lex Luger)-- now they're coming for the titles they never lost in the first place!

PREVIEW - WEEK TWO - JANUARY 1992

WCW Television Champion "Stunning" Steve Austin faced one of his hardest challenges yet last week in Ron Simmons, but came out victorious thanks to the numbers game. The Board of Directors has ruled that Paul E. Dangerously will be banned from ringside for this bout! Can Austin wrestle his way to a time limit draw, as he has done on several occasions, or will he fall to Simmons without Dangerously at ringside?

“Ravishing” Rick Rude, the WCW United States Champion is in danger of forfeiting his title due to going 60 days without a defense. Begrudgingly, Paul E. Dangerously has signed on for his client to defend the belt against one of the top-ranked wrestlers in the recent Power Rankings, Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat. Dangerously will not be banned from ringside for this bout, but the Board of Directors have warned that more ringside bans are in store for Dangerously should he continue to influence the outcome of matches in World Championship Wrestling.

The Steiner Brothers, Rick & Scott, never lost their WCW World Tag Team Championship but, instead, were forced to vacate them due to Scott’s injury. Now that they’ve returned to the tag team ranks, they’ll have to climb the ladder and that starts with former champions, The Enforcers!

Last week, youngster Marcus Alexander Bagwell refused an offer from the Dangerous Alliance and found himself on the receiving end of a beatdown from WCW Television Champion “Stunning” Steve Austin.Despite trying his best not to get dragged into dealing with Paul E. Dangerously and his cadre of wrestling villains, Bagwell finds himself face-to-face with “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton!

All of this and more, this Saturday on World Championship Wrestling!

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING

WEEK TWO - JANUARY 1992

FROM GREENVILLE MEMORIAL AUDITORIUM

v4pxe0J.jpgRO3hoYI.jpgwPqC9Xg.jpg

ANNOUNCE TEAM: JIM ROSS, TONY SCHIAVONE, AND DUSTY RHODES

<hr>

dbMi75k.jpg

Sting opens the show this week with a promise to find a partner for Clash of the Champions. He teases a few different people by saying things like he might "find the ultimate partner" or "let someone run wild," even going so far as to say he knows a "Nature Boy dyin' to come home." In the end, he says that, "it's going to be a great Clash of Champions for The Stinger" and that the results will "leave The Dangerous Alliance all misty-eyed."

<hr>

l93EMWj.jpgvOKgj7e.jpg

MR. HUGHES

VERSUS

BIG JOSH

Big Josh is a big fan favorite, but he proved no match here for "The Bodyguard" Mr. Hughes. A longer match than some squashes, but a squash for Mr. Hughes nevertheless.

WINNER: MR. HUGHES

<hr>

yhWJWjc.jpg2fxgXXp.jpg

Brian Pillman is out for a promo with Missy Hyatt next, flirting with her just a little bit while promoting his match against Jushin Thunder Liger for the WCW Light Heavyweight Championship at Clash of the Champions XVIII in just a few short days on TBS. The crowd begins to stir as Pillman launches into a proper promo, someone off-camera jawing at Pillman and sauntering onto the stage.

MtCnudb.jpg

"Now just who the hell are you?" Pillman asks, the man obnoxiously chomping on gum and smiling.

"Who me? I'm Scotty Flamingo... Scotty the Body to you, Missy."

Missy looks disgusted as Flamingo and Pillman go back-and-forth for a moment before agreeing to match.

FLYIN' BRIAN PILLMAN

VERSUS

SCOTTY FLAMINGO

The newcomer looks impressive in his debut, but he's no match for the world class athleticism of Brian Pillman. Air Pillman wins the match, and sends Flamingo packing.

WINNER: FLYIN' BRIAN PILLMAN

<hr>

EmEhbwv.jpg5Fl63aS.jpgr1CrpWp.jpg

MARCUS ALEXANDER BAGWELL

VERSUS

"BEAUTIFUL" BOBBY EATON

w/ PAUL E. DANGEROUSLY

Bagwell looks nervous to be stepping in the ring with such a step up in competition as the number ten ranked Eaton. Nerves do not get the better of him, however, as he shines during the match. He looks poised for victory, but Paul E. interferes by pulling Bagwell's leg out from under him when he's near the ropes and holding Eaton up in one of his beautiful vertical suplexes. Out of sight of the referee Randy Anderson, Dangerously continues to hold Bagwell's foot down while Eaton makes the cover for the win.

WINNER: "BEAUTIFUL" BOBBY EATON

Following the match, Bobby Eaton continues laying the boots in to Bagwell while the announce team calls for someone to put a stop to the assault.

"Wait just a minute!" Jim Ross calls, the crowd roaring as someone makes their way into the arena.

dbMi75k.jpgqmg8HDf.jpg

Sting and Ron Simmons run into the ring, chasing off Eaton and Dangerously but the damage has already been done. Bagwell is clutching his ribs, writhing in pain, and unable to get up even with Sting's help.

<hr>

The Steiner Brothers are out for an interview before their match. Scott says he's proud of everything his brother accomplished in singles competition while he was away injured, and it doesn't matter that the odds were stacked against him in his WCW World title match with Lex Luger because The Steiner Brothers are back together.

Rick agrees, saying The Steiner Brothers are back and they're coming for those WCW World Tag Team title belts that they never lost in the first place. The Enforcers might be after them in the record books, but they've never been beaten by "a couple of punks" and they're not going to start tonight.

THE STEINER BROTHERS

(RICK & SCOTT STEINER)

VERSUS

THE ENFORCERS

(ARN ANDERSON & LARRY ZBYSZKO)

w/ PAUL E. DANGEROUSLY

This match showcased a new level of action for weekly TV, perhaps showing a shift in how things are running under Eric Bischoff. Both teams have their chances to shine, but in the end, the Steiners manage to fend off outside interference from Paul E. Dangerously to pick-up the win!

WINNERS: THE STEINER BROTHERS

<hr>

"Stunning" Steve Austin is backstage with Madusa Miceli for an interview conducted by Missy Hyatt. Austin says it doesn't matter that the WCW Board of Directors banned Paul E. Dangerously from ringside for his rematch with Ron Simmons; he doesn't need Dangerously to whip Simmons' ass.

qmg8HDf.jpgrUz3Hnh.jpgwwSNYMf.jpg

WCW TELEVISION TITLE MATCH

RON SIMMONS

VERSUS

"STUNNING" STEVE AUSTIN ©

w/ MADUSA MICELI

Austin's words about not needing Dangerously proved to be true, but mostly because he still had Madusa Miceli out to run interference for him. The finish came when Madusa distracted both the referee Jimmy Jett and Ron Simmons long enough for Austin to nail Simmons with a low blow to setup his Stun Gun finisher to pick up the tainted victory.

WINNER, AND STILL WCW TELEVISION CHAMPION: "STUNNING" STEVE AUSTIN

<hr>

Paul E. Dangerously is backstage with "Ravishing" Rick Rude for an interview with Missy Hyatt. Rude says that while he hates to rob all of these "South Carolina slobs" of his gift of gab, he is taking a vow of silence until the Board of Directors are removed from power for the injustices they've committed against The Dangerous Alliance.

This leads to Paul E. Dangerously ranting against the Board of Directors again for attempting to impede his legitimate managerial license. His decision to bankrupt this company by destroying the likes of Sting and Barry Windham has never felt more justified than it does in this moment, and Ricky Steamboat can be assured that he is next!

WCW UNITED STATES TITLE MATCH

RICKY "THE DRAGON" STEAMBOAT

VERSUS

"RAVISHING" RICK RUDE ©

w/ PAUL E. DANGEROUSLY

Just as he had "deprived" the audience of his words earlier, Paul E. Dangerously covers up Rick Rude during his usual robe reveal while shouting at the crowd that they don't deserve "Ravishing" Rick Rude. What ensues is a highly competitive, action-packed match that is only tarnish by the finish. After a clever scheme that gives referee Jimmy Jett the impression that Steamboat hit Rude with Dangerously's phone, Rude rolls Steamboat up during the ensuing argument and holds his tights to get the pinfall.

WINNER, AND STILL WCW UNITED STATES CHAMPION: "RAVISHING" RICK RUDE

A huge argument breaks out in the ring, eventually involving not just the competitors in the main event and Paul E., but the rest of The Dangerous Alliance, Sting, Ron Simmons, "The Natural" Dustin Rhodes, and Barry Windham as well before the show goes off the air.

CLASH OF THE CHAMPIONS XVIII

PREVIEW - TUESDAY - WEEK THREE - JANUARY 1992

The Clash of the Champions rolls into Greensboro, North Carolina for the 18th edition of the quarterly special, and we’ve got a hot one for you this time around! Sting’s contention with The Dangerous Alliance boils over in a massive tag team encounter! We know that Paul E. Dangerously is sending “Ravishing” Rick Rude and “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton, but who will The Stinger recruit to be by his side? It won’t be either of the WCW Tag Team Champions, “The Natural” Dustin Rhodes or Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, nor will it be Barry Windham as he challenges for “Stunning” Steve Austin’s WCW Television Championship. Sting has hinted that just about anyone could show up to help him out against The Dangerous Alliance, but who will it be?

A good deal of The Dangerous Alliance’s issues with the top babyfaces in WCW started when “The Natural” Dustin Rhodes refused to sign on with Paul E. Dangerously. This almost directly resulted in Barry Windham being injured by Larry Zbyszko in an act which caused Dangerously to dub him, “The Cruncher.” Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat showed up as a mystery replacement for Windham, and together Rhodes & Steamboat claimed the WCW World Tag Team Championships from The Enforcers. But, the war rages on and now the titles are up grabs once again!

The WCW Patriots have been on the hunt for the WCW United States Tag Team titles, but The Young PIstols have cheated them out of the titles every time they’ve stepped into the ring together. Will that prove to be the case once again this Tuesday in Greensboro?

The ring has proven unable to contain Cactus Jack and “Heavy Metal” Van Hammer each time they’ve attempted to have a match recently, so it’s Falls Count Anywhere this Tuesday at the Clash!

All of this and much, much more coming your way on TBS this Tuesday night! Don’t miss Clash of the Champions XVIII LIVE from Greensboro, North Carolina.

ANNOUNCE TEAM: JIM ROSS, TONY SCHIAVONE, AND DUSTY RHODES

A video is shown recapping the nefarious deeds of The Dangerous Alliance, including theirs attacks on Sting, Barry Windham, and recently on Marcus Alexander Bagwell. It also highlights the promises Paul E. Dangerously has made that have come true: the rise of The Enforcers, the championship ways of "Ravishing" Rick Rude and "Stunning" Steve Austin, and more.

<hr>

After the opening video, the announce team welcome us to Clash of the Champions XVIII and put over a jam-packed night of action. Harley Race makes his way out to the entrance stage for a moment, and Jim Ross makes notes that "The Total Package" Lex Luger is not scheduled to be there this evening. But, it is soon revealed that Race is not there with Luger, but with the first tag team of the night.

Despite relying on their cheating ways as of late, the Pistols don't cheat this time around. Instead, solid tag team wrestling and double team maneuvers lead them to victory over the dejected WCW Patriots, who haven’t managed a win in a while.

Alexandra York is out with the entire York Foundation, which consists of Terrence Taylor (recently returned to the stable), Thomas Rich, and Richard Morton. York says that the Foundation's cash flow has been limited since they lost a few assets, so she's been looking to acquire some more name value for The York Foundation. Her computer has identified the acquirable targets: the Armstrong family. York says that tradition is as good as name value, and so she will be focusing all of her manpower and acquiring the Armstrong brand.

Brad & Brian Armstrong come out, saying that while the Foundation may have gotten the better of them in recent weeks on WCW programming, they have no intentions of being acquired by anyone. York promises them they will see differently soon enough.

The announce team put over the match these two had earlier this month in Japan, showing some clips of it during their entrances. The two never slow down for one second from start-to-finish, even the technical exchanges are lightning quick. The result is different this time, however, as Pillman catches a surprise roll-up out of nowhere to put Liger down for the three count.

The Freebirds make short work of their opponents, much to the displeasure of DDP on the outside.

WINNERS: THE FABULOUS FREEBIRDS

The Freebirds try to get their hands on DDP after the match, but his cohorts have recuperated and fend them off. The Diamond Exchange bails while all the men jaw at each other, making it clear this isn't over.

FALLS COUNT ANYWHERE

CACTUS JACK

VERSUS

"HEAVY METAL" VAN HAMMER

Cactus Jack makes his entrance first and tries to charge Van Hammer, but Hammer fires his pyro guitar at Jack to temporarily blind him. They miraculously start in the ring but don't last there long, spilling to the outside and going all over the arena until they eventually end up outside near where they are preparing for a rodeo. Before the match is over, Hammer has been hit with a shovel and Missy Hyatt, who followed the match outside to cover it for the show, ends up in a water trough. Cactus Jack wins.

WINNER: CACTUS JACK

Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat and "The Natural" Dustin Rhodes are backstage with Eric Bischoff for a promo before their match. Steamboat says Barry Windham might not be in this match, but that doesn't mean they aren't out for revenge for their friend. Rhodes says that The Enforcers might've taken Windham out temporarily, but he's back and better than ever. By the end of the night, all three men will be wearing gold, naturally.

THE ENFORCERS

(ARN ANDERSON & LARRY ZBYSZKO)

w/ PAUL E. DANGEROUSLY

The announcers talk about how there are rumors of someone from the WCW Board of Directors being in attendance, so Dangerously is expected to be on his best behavior at ringside. That doesn't prove to be the case, however, as Dangerously interjects himself into the match at several points behind the referee's back. Despite all of that, however, he doesn't play a part in the finish as the Enforcers seemingly injure Ricky Steamboat to isolate Dustin Rhodes in the last several minutes of the match. Arn Anderson picks up the win with a Spinebuster on Rhodes.

"Stunning" Steve Austin and Madusa Miceli are backstage for a promo with Eric Bischoff where Austin threatens to break Windham's hand all over again if tonight isn't the end of his dealings with The Dangerous Alliance.

STING & THE GREAT MUTA

VERSUS

THE DANGEROUS ALLIANCE

("RAVISHING" RICK RUDE & "BEAUTIFUL" BOBBY EATON)

w/ PAUL E. DANGEROUSLY

The Dangerous Alliance are beside themselves when Muta makes his entrance. The match features all of Muta's signature spots, including spitting mist in the eyes of Paul E. Dangerously to take him out of the equation late in the match. Sting makes Eaton submit to the Scorpion Deathlock for the victory.

WINNERS: STING & THE GREAT MUTA

The Dangerous Alliance lick their wounds and retreat, Sting and The Great Muta celebrate in the ring for a moment before Harley Race comes out to the entrance stage and feigns a clap for the babyfaces before giving them a thumb’s down.

Big Van Vader and Mr. Hughes charge out from the back and hit the ring, working to beatdown Sting & Muta. Just when it looks like they are going to be able to fight back, someone new hits the ring.

“Wait just a damn minute! That’s… that’s…” Jim Ross raves.

”That’s Bam Bam Bigelow!” Tony Schiavone screams as “The Beast From The East” hits the ring to turn the tides for the heels, now beating Sting & The Great Muta three-on-two with Harley Race outside directing traffic. The broadcast runs out of time just as Vader is crushing Sting with a Vader Bomb and Bam Bam Bigelow delivers the Diving Headbutt to The Great Muta.
