WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING ON TBS

PREVIEW - WEEK THREE - JANUARY 1992

Harley Race had a hand in debuting a monstrous trio at the end of Clash of the Champions XVIII; that group included Big Van Vader, “The Bodyguard” Mr. Hughes, and the debuting “Beast From The East” Bam Bam Bigelow! With their sights set on Sting, could this new challenge combined with the threat of The Dangerous Alliance prove to be too much for The Stinger?

In a Number One Contender’s Match, The Steiner Brothers, Rick and Scott, take on Michael P.S. Hayes and Jimmy “Jam” Garvin, The Fabulous Freebirds, in order to determine the next challengers for the WCW United States Tag Team Champions, The Young Pistols. The Steiners are sure to be out for revenge after being cheated out of those same titles by Steve Armstrong and Tracy Smothers just a few short weeks ago.

All of this and much, much more, this Saturday on TBS!

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING

WEEK THREE - JANUARY 1992

FROM JACKSONVILLE COLISEUM

ANNOUNCE TEAM: JIM ROSS, TONY SCHIAVONE, AND DUSTY RHODES

<hr>

A recap is shown of Harley Race sicking Big Van Vader, Mr. Hughes, and a debuting Bam Bam Bigelow on Sting & The Great Muta at the end of Clash of the Champions XVIII. Narration from the familiar WCW voice over announcer wonders what this means for Sting and World Championship Wrestling now that the hero is being attacked from all directions by The Dangerous Alliance and, now, Harley Race's new faction.

WCW TELEVISION TITLE MATCH

"STUNNING" STEVE AUSTIN ©

w/ MADUSA MICELI

VERSUS

JOHNNY B. BADD

Johnny B. Badd usually competes in the Light Heavyweight division, but his recent successes have afforded him a Television title opportunity. He plays to the crowd and looks impressive to start, but falls victim to a Stun Gun in the end for Austin to retain his title.

WINNER, AND STILL WCW TELEVISION CHAMPION: "STUNNING" STEVE AUSTIN

r1CrpWp.jpg

Paul E. Dangerously joins "Stunning" Steve and Madusa in the ring after his successful defense; Dangerously looks annoyed as he rails against the WCW Board of Directors once again for their unfair treatment of himself and the members of The Dangerous Alliance. They are trying to divide and conquer, but the Alliance will not be divided, will not have a wedge driven in between them. The Dangerous Alliance is as strong as ever, and they will prove this to Board of Directors in due time.

<hr>

"Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff is out for an interview next, welcomed to World Championship Wrestling by Missy Hyatt. He says that he's got a chip on his shoulder: a Ron Simmons-sized chip. Mr. Wonderful is in WCW to prove that he is still one of the best in the world, and this weekend on WCW synidcated programming, Simmons put a little damper on his return. But tonight? Tonight he's stepping in the ring with a youngster, and he's going to run him over as he shows the world what he's got left in the tank.

LXWaJA1.jpgnGbTQuL.jpg

"MR. WONDERFUL" PAUL ORNDORFF

VERSUS

SHANE DOUGLAS

The crowd is firmly behind the returning Shane Douglas here, but Mr. Wonderful is determined to play spoiler. The pair have a good match, ending when Douglas rolls Orndorff up out of nowhere for a quick, clean pinfall.

WINNER: SHANE DOUGLAS

As referee Randy Anderson raises Douglas' hand, Orndorff attacks from behind to a chorus of boos. He puts the boots to Douglas before he bails, looking disgusted with himself after a return weekend sans victory on the way out of the arena.

<hr>

GqhJBoG.jpgMtCnudb.jpg

TOM ZENK

VERSUS

SCOTTY FLAMINGO

The Light Heavyweight division is really starting to heat up in WCW, with new champion Flyin' Brian Pillman and Jushin Thunder Ligar setting the world on fire with their athletic showcases as well as new faces showing up all the time. This match sees brash newcomer Scotty Flamingo take on fan favorite Tom Zenk; while Zenk looks good most of the match, Flamingo cheats with a handful of tights for the win.

WINNER: SCOTTY FLAMINGO

<hr>

Ao1Lc4d.jpgkjxs8kH.jpg

"Heavy Metal" Van Hammer is backstage for an interview with Missy Hyatt, but before it can begin Cactus Jack charges onto the scene and begins brawling with Hammer. The two fight in the interview area before spilling out into the arena, going at each other like rabid dogs while the announcers rave, "this means it's not over between these two!"

PDOlx3l.jpg

Just as Cactus Jack puts Hammer down in the aisle way, Abdullah the Butcher comes out of nowhere to blast Jack with his kendo stick! Abdullah cuts Jack down with the kendo stick, and gives Van Hammer a shot for good measure when the youngster tries to thank him for his help.

<hr>

8rg9ReZ.jpg

Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat is backstage with Eric Bischoff for an interview. He says that he's been happy to stand side-by-side with "The Natural" Dustin Rhodes these past several months, but now it's time for him to start accomplishing some goals he set when he returned to World Championship Wrestling. The first of these goals coincides with getting some revenge on The Dangerous Alliance, and that is taking the WCW United States Championship away from "Ravishing" Rick Rude.

sy4SaGN.jpg

Before Steamboat can say much else, he's blindsided by Rude with a vicious forearm. Rude's "vow of silence" seemingly continues, as he doesn't trash talk Steamboat while putting the boots to him. Bischoff hightails it out of the scene while the announcers scream that things are getting out of control in World Championship Wrestling!

<hr>

Diamond Dallas Page cuts a quick promo, hyping up Vinnie Vegas, constantly referring to him as "the big guy" and calling him a "diamond in the rough" while Vegas stands beside him looking menacing.

lMhbXVd.jpglIKiF0C.jpgvOKgj7e.jpg

VINNIE VEGAS

w/ DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE

VERSUS

BIG JOSH

If there's anyone in WCW who can stand toe-to-toe with the new big man in WCW, it's Big Josh and he isn't afraid for one second. That still doesn't help him when Vegas nails him with the Snake Eyes for the victory in short order.

WINNER: VINNIE VEGAS

<hr>

XLDZDz2.jpg

Brian Armstrong is out with his brother Brad, celebrating their victory over The York Foundation at Clash of the Champions. The brothers say they are not, and never will be, for sale-- especially not to The York Foundation.

lcCx2MI.jpgL2VBv6T.jpghCKEprs.jpg

BRAD ARMSTRONG

VERSUS

TERRENCE TAYLOR

w/ ALEXANDRA YORK

Terrence Taylor and Alexandra York offer Brad Armstrong a cashier's check to call off the match and join them, but Armstrong rips it in half. Taylor attacks, and controls a good portion of the match, but Armstrong takes the win in the end to make the score 2-1 against The York Foundation.

WINNER: BRAD ARMSTRONG

<hr>

The Steiner Brothers, Rick & Scott, are backstage with Missy Hyatt for a promo. They say they never lost the WCW World Tag Team titles, and they were cheated out of the WCW United States Tag Team titles, but nothing is going to stop them from claiming World Championship Wrestling gold. The Freebirds might be a team bordering on legendary, but The Steiner Brothers are legends in the making.

VTr0rHc.jpgbj2CYQX.jpgvbT5X9H.jpgyXAFHW3.jpg

THE STEINER BROTHERS

(RICK & SCOTT STEINER)

VERSUS

THE FABULOUS FREEBIRDS

(MICHAEL P.S. HAYES & JIMMY "JAM" GARVIN)

The crowd isn't quite sure how to take two babyface teams competing at first, but they win them over with a decent match that sees The Steiner Brothers claim number one contender status to the WCW United States Tag Team Championships.

WINNERS: THE STEINER BROTHERS

The Steiner Brothers are celebrating their win the ring when the crowd begins to stir, all turning towards the entrance as two men in black jackets and ski masks charge the ring. Rick & Scott are too busy posing on opposite turnbuckles to see the attack coming; the masked men are swift and brutal, stout men in black tights and the announce team wonder who it might be beneath the masks. The mystery is not to be revealed tonight, though, as the men leave after the devastation has been done.

<hr>

j6U9gP5.jpgl93EMWj.jpg

Harley Race comes out to the ring with Big Van Vader, Bam Bam Bigelow, and Mr. Hughes. He says that he has created a three-headed hydra to eat Sting alive. These men are big, bad, and dangerous, and World Championship Wrestling can consider this a global warning: no one is safe from the destruction that these men will bring.

lVFVtMp.jpg0vfnPLK.jpgX8rd7nO.jpg

BAM BAM BIGELOW

w/ HARLEY RACE

VERSUS

STING

Another high quality main event, continuing the practice of better matches on television that started with the new year. The finish sees Harley Race get involved, distracting Sting and the referee long enough for Bam Bam Bigelow to put Sting down for the Diving Headbutt after the distraction.

WINNER: BAM BAM BIGELOW

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING ON TBS

PREVIEW - WEEK FOUR - JANUARY 1992

Our main event this week sees WCW United States Heavyweight Champion “Ravishing” Rick Rude put his title on the line against recent rival Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat! Rude’s “vow of silence” didn’t stop him from putting the boots to Steamboat this past weekend on WCW programming, and now the Board of Directors have seen fit to move up Rude’s title defense against Steamboat. Originally scheduled for Superbrawl II, citing The Dangerous Alliance’s history of injuring opponents, the Board of Directors have decided to make it this week’s main event!

In more Dangerous Alliance news, WCW Television Champion “Stunning” Steve Austin will step into the ring once again with Sting! Earlier this month, these two went to a time limit draw on WCW Main Event– will that be the same outcome this time around? Or are Stunning Steve’s days as champion numbered?

All of this and much, much more, this Saturday on TBS!
