WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING

WEEK FOUR - FEBRUARY 1992

FROM THE FIVE SEASONS CENTER

v4pxe0J.jpgRO3hoYI.jpgwPqC9Xg.jpg

ANNOUNCE TEAM: JIM ROSS, TONY SCHIAVONE, AND DUSTY RHODES

Jim Ross welcomes us all to the last edition of World Championship Wrestling, noting that fans will tune in at the same time next week to see a new show from WCW called WCW Saturday Night! You’ll see the same great superstars you’ve come to love and hate, but with a new look set and a new approach to matchmaking from Commissioner Nick Bockwinkel and the World Championship Wrestling Board of Directors. But, that’s next week, and here to ensure we kick things off with a bang, two of the best in the world, the warring stars of the WCW Light Heavyweight division, champion Flyin’ Brian Pillman and international superstar Jushin Thunder Liger!

WCW LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH

FLYIN' BRIAN PILLMAN ©

VERSUS

JUSHIN THUNDER LIGER

These two have met several times on both American and international soil, and it's been magic every time. This time, the two dazzling high fliers work a slower, more methodical and technical match in the opening minutes before picking up the pace with some trademark high flying offense from both men. They trade a couple of near falls, and a series of stalemate spots leading into them meeting in the middle of the ring and shaking hands as the crowd cheers. The cheers soon turn to jeers, however, as the bell rings to signal a time limit draw and the crowd chants "five more minutes" as Pillman is handed back the WCW Light Heavyweight title.

TIME LIMIT DRAW

lIKiF0C.jpg

Diamond Dallas Page and The Diamond Exchange are out when we return from commercial, showboating in their stolen Freebirds jackets. DDP says that The Freebirds don't have what it takes to get it done in the evolving world of professional wrestling anymore, but that his boys in The Diamond Exchange will take real good care of the sport long after the 'birds have been put out to pasture.

yXAFHW3.jpglMhbXVd.jpg

JIMMY "JAM" GARVIN

VERSUS

VINNIE VEGAS

Vinnie Vegas makes short work of Garvin here, taking him out with Snake Eyes after little more than a big boot and a sidewalk slam.

WINNER: VINNIE VEGAS

Michael P.S. Hayes hits the ring with a riding crop immediately following the pinfall, laying into Vegas with it until The Diamond Studd charges in to Vegas' aide. Garvin recovers, and DDP joins the fracas as well, but even 3-on-2, The Diamond Exchange can't outmatch the furious Freebirds here. Hayes and Garvin chase them off and recover their prized jackets in the process, strutting and showboating for the fans in them as we head to commercial.

"RAVISHING" RICK RUDE

w/ PAUL E. DANGEROUSLY

VERSUS

DJ PETERSON

WCW United States Champion "Ravishing" Rick Rude essentially mauls DJ Peterson here, finishing him off with a Rude Awakening and quite literally booting him out of the ring following the match.

WINNER: RICK RUDE

r1CrpWp.jpg

An incensed Paul E. Dangerously marches into the ring as Rude is booting his fallen opponent out, microphone in one hand and ever-present cell phone in his other. Dangerously says that Rude, as the United States Champion, deserves respect but these people boo him. That "Beautiful" Bobby Eaton, as one of the greatest wrestlers on God's green Earth, gets no respect from the fans-- but it doesn't matter. Deserving of respect or not, the respect of slack-jawed, bubble-gutted, dimwitted wrestling fans isn't important to anyone in The Dangerous Alliance. What does matter, however, is the respect of Nick Bockwinkel and the Board of Directors-- something Bockwinkel and his ilk have never bothered to show The Dangerous Alliance.

Something Shane Douglas has failed to show him since his return to WCW, but that will be corrected in short order here tonight on the last episode of World Championship Wrestling. Bobby Eaton will beat Shane Douglas so badly, his mother will cry when she sees what's happened to her blonde baby.

So, what needs to be done is clear; Dangerously is issuing an ultimatum to everyone in World Championship Wrestling. You're either with him or against him, and there are only an elite few who are with him. They say that while the cat's away, the mice will play-- but they are not mice, they are lions, and it's better to be a lion than one of the helpless sheep about to be slaughtered by The Dangerous Alliance.

hxImecw.jpg

Magnum TA is with the commentary team when we return, receiving a standing ovation from the crowd. He says that he's here to watch his protege Shane Douglas stick it to The Dangerous Alliance once and for all.

5Fl63aS.jpgnGbTQuL.jpg

"BEAUTIFUL" BOBBY EATON

w/ PAUL E. DANGEROUSLY

VERSUS

SHANE DOUGLAS

Eaton shows off why Dangerously calls him one of the best in the early going of the match, controlling Douglas and locking him up in plenty of torturous holds to slow down the gifted youngster. Douglas turns the tides for a while, but Dangerously's interference on the outside ensures Douglas doesn't shine for long. When all hope seems lost, Magnum TA rallies the crowd behind Douglas from the announce desk and Douglas makes a fiery comeback culminating in a Belly-to-Belly Suplex for the win.

WINNER: SHANE DOUGLAS

Douglas embraces his mentor at ringside while Dangerously stews in the ring next to Eaton, uncharacteristically quiet as they seethe at Douglas.

qmg8HDf.jpgl93EMWj.jpg

RON SIMMONS

VERSUS

MR. HUGHES

One head of Harley Race's Hydra steps into the ring with Ron Simmons, and a hoss battle much to JR's liking ensues in the ring. While Ricky Steamboat has been positioned as top contender to Big Van Vader's WCW World Heavyweight Championship, Simmons has quietly put together an impressive record as of late as well. That record continues to grow here as he bests Hughes following a Running Powerslam.

WINNER: RON SIMMONS

KEBLekF.jpg

Following the commercial break, Paul E. Dangerously is back out with the entirety of The Dangerous Alliance backing him up this time. He paces in the ring for a moment before deciding to just come out and say it: he's accusing Nick Bockwinkel and the WCW Board of Directors of conspiracy! Conspiracy against The Dangerous Alliance, conspiring to hold back talent under his managerial license, conspiring to keep Sting at the top of the company when he's not even fit to compete! Dangerously is sick of it, and he wants a chance to settle it once and for all.

Dangerously's rant eventually brings out Nick Bockwinkel, red-faced and tie loosened. He says he's heard more than enough-- Dangerously is acting like a child who hasn't figured out that the world doesn't revolve around him. There is no conspiracy, there is simply fact and fiction, and Dangerously has chosen to believe a bunch of fiction. Now, he could fine Dangerously, he could suspend him, he could even go so far as to fire him, which the Board of Directors has made clear they would like to see done. But, no, he's got something else in mind.

smLceZm.jpg

Bockwinkel brings out a returning Sting! It was only one short week ago that The Stinger had said the Board of Directors wouldn't allow him at the arena, but Bockwinkel overrode that this week because Sting is going to be cleared just in time for something big: Wrestle War 1992! And, Sting has a special challenge for The Dangerous Alliance. Nearly foaming at the mouth, Sting takes the mic from Bockwinkel and says just two words.

"WAR GAMES!"

Dangerously cackles as if Sting has just played into a trap, "Ravishing" Rick Rude and "Stunning" Steve Austin flanking him and nodding arrogantly. They accept, and wonder who Sting might find to join his team. The Stinger says not to worry, there are plenty of men wronged by The Dangerous Alliance ready to step into the cage against them and go to war.

The announce team marvel about what happened before the break when we return from commercial, and then put over the fact that we'll be seeing The Dangerous Alliance take on Sting's Squadron at Wrestle War 1992 in War Games!

WCW TELEVISION TITLE MATCH

"STUNNING" STEVE AUSTIN ©

w/ MADUSA MICELI

VERSUS

MARCUS ALEXANDER BAGWELL

After Bagwell & Douglas were victorious last week in tag team action over the WCW Television Champion, both men were granted Television title matches; Bagwell gets his first, his second meeting with Austin. This one plays out much the same as the first, and Austin takes the win.

WINNER, AND STILL CHAMPION: STEVE AUSTIN

Following the match, Austin puts the boots to Bagwell while Dangerously comes out raving about how they gave Bagwell a chance to be one of them, but now he must suffer. More members of the Alliance come out to the ring, but soon enough, Shane Douglas comes charging out to make the save. He enters the ring and cuts down Steve Austin to get to Bagwell and pulls him out of the ring to safety.

2CrAC1w.jpglVFVtMp.jpg

RICKY "THE DRAGON" STEAMBOAT

VERSUS

BAM BAM BIGELOW

w/ HARLEY RACE

Ricky Steamboat goes on the offensive immediately, having already conquered one head of the Hydra, as he chops and kicks at The Beast From The East. The crowd is behind Steamboat all the way, but Bigelow's size and agility are an even match for the babyface from Hawaii-- not to mention his taped ribs from the post-match attack on him the week before. In the end, Bigelow takes a clean win with a Diving Headbutt over the injured Dragon.

WINNER: BAM BAM BIGELOW

Following the match, Big Van Vader and Mr. Hughes are out and the Hydra go about laying out Ricky Steamboat at Harley Race's direction. But, before the damage can be done, Sting comes out, calling for someone to "GO!" and Ron Simmons comes charging out. The damage has already been done, but the Hydra retreats as Simmons and a still-injured Sting check on a recovering Ricky Steamboat as the final episode of World Championship Wrestling goes off the air.

WATCHING WRESTLING WITH WENDELL

MARCH 1992

WRITTEN AND EDITED BY WENDELL WHITE

------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello wrestling fans, welcome back to Watching Wrestling. What a month we had in February all around the wrestling world, huh?

In the World Wrestling Federation, it became apparent that Jake “The Snake” Robert’s heel run atop the company with the WWF World Championship is taking a backseat to the faction warfare that has broken out between Hulk Hogan, “Macho King” Randy Savage, and “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair. Roberts was left to feud with Sid Justice and, apparently, establish him as a top face in the World Wrestling Federation in the process, while being largely absent from in-ring competition on Superstars.

Meanwhile, The Hulkamaniacs (composed of Hogan, Big Bossman, Bret “The Hitman” Hart, and The Legion of Doom) have taken up arms against Ric Flair and his army of heels. So far, The Nature Boy’s group has featured Bobby “The Brain” Heenan as the group’s manager, Mr. Perfect (continuing his “executive consultant” role), Irwin R. Schyster (as Flair’s “financial advisor”), The Mountie (as Flair’s “enforcer,” who was heavily teased as Arn Anderson before his reveal), and The Sheepherders (The Bushwhackers big turn on Hulk Hogan wasn’t quite the moment WWF brass had hoped it would be, but it was shocking in it’s own way).

Somewhat on the outside in all of this is Randy Savage, returning to his “Macho King” persona as a paranoid heel along with his return to the ring. He now has The Round Table as his henchman– Shawn Michaels, who has been going by the moniker of “The Heartbreak Kid” despite Savage calling him “Macho Prince” constantly, and The Nasty Boys. Savage’s return to the ring storyline was initially that he had to win the Royal Rumble to come out of retirement before the Rumble match itself led to his longtime feud with Hogan reigniting; Hogan eliminated Savage, and Savage attacked Hogan after that, leading to Hogan’s own elimination by eventual winner Ric Flair.

Roberts and Justice have seemingly been relegated to promos and pre-taped segments since Roberts defeated Justice in the tournament final to win the WWF World Heavyweight title. While WWF Superstars has prominently featured the faction warfare in matches on each episode and several main events. Most recently, it seems Tatanka will also be joining The Hulkamaniacs as he has been involved in segments with Ric Flair.

Over in World Championship Wrestling, they’ve moved on from Lex Luger (who is now working dates for Jim Cornette in Smoky Mountain Wrestling while he waits out his non-compete for a chance to join WWF) and it’s like he was never a factor in the booking at all. Sting won the title from Luger, only to drop it to new monster Big Van Vader and be on the chase once again– all while continuing his feud with Paul E. Dangerously and The Dangerous Alliance, and building towards a War Games match at Wrestle War 1992. Things have been a little manic at the top of the WCW scene, however, with Ron Simmons and Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat both looking like likely contenders against Vader as well as likely teammates for Sting in War Games.

All is likely to be revealed soon, even as soon as the first edition of WCW Saturday Night comes up this weekend (hopefully my humble newsletter found you before the weekend). World Championship Wrestling is also rumored to be increasing their pay-per-view output in 1992, and that, combined with their Clash of the Champions shows live on TBS, they will present a “supercard” style show every month in the year. One of these shows is heavily rumored to feature a slightly revamped edition of the Bunkhouse Stampede, while other shows on the schedule include Slamboree, Halloween Havoc, and Starrcade among others.

The infusion of talent into the Light Heavyweight division is complete as Eric Bischoff looks to establish wrestlers like Avatar, Scotty Flamingo, Ultimo Dragon, and Rob Van Dam alongside Brian Pillman, Jushin Thunder Liger, Richard Morton, Thomas Rich, Tom Zenk, and Johnny B. Badd. Power Plant Pro Wrestling also looks rife with talent that could contribute to the division with the likes of Dean Malkeno, Eddy Guerrero, Chris Candido, The Lightning Kid, and many others under contract to WCW’s developmental company. It remains to be seen who the crowd responds to, but the talent is certainly there for the division to expand; they simply cannot rely on Pillman and Liger to carry them forever.

That’s all I’ve got for you this month! See you in April.

-Wendell White.

WCW MAIN EVENT

BROADCAST IN SYNDICATION

WEEKEND OF WEEK ONE - MARCH 1992

FILMED AT DISNEY-MGM STUDIOS

  1. Paul E. Dangerously cut a seething promo backstage with Missy Hyatt in which he promised to rid WCW of Sting once and for all, because The Stinger played right into his trap. War Games is a match made for The Dangerous Alliance, and it's a match designed to end careers. Sting is a foolish man, and, soon, Sting will be a dead man.
  2. In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, The York Foundation defeated The Armstrong Boys in 7:23 when Thomas Rich pinned Brian Armstrong with a Market Crash after Alexandra York interfered.
  3. "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff was out to say that he's had a run of bad luck lately, but that all ends tonight when he beats that punk kid Marcus Alexander Bagwell. He may have missed his chance to join The Dangerous Alliance, but he didn't come to WCW to make friends; he came to win gold.
  4. In a decent match, Paul Orndorff defeated Marcus Alexander Bagwell in 8:26 by pinfall with a Spike Piledriver.
  5. Alexandra York was out in the arena next to give an interview with Eric Bischoff where she claimed to be close to a hostile takeover of the Armstrong family and their wrestling legacy. The victory over Brad & Brian earlier tonight is just an indicator of future market moves by The York Foundation.
  6. In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, Terrence Taylor defeated Van Hammer in 6:03 by pinfall with a Flying Forearm Smash after Alexandra York interfered.
  7. Sting was out in front of the crowd next, saying that he'll announce his team members on the first-ever episode of WCW Saturday Night this weekend at 6:05pm on TBS! He didn't play into any trap, because the scorpion is an apex predator in WCW, and an apex predator is always two moves ahead.
  8. Shane Douglas is at the announce desk with Magnum T.A. by his side, thanking his mentor for his guidance and saying that it's all leading him to WCW Saturday Night where he's going to take the WCW Television Title from "Stunning" Steve Austin.
  9. In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, Shane Douglas defeated Larry Zbyszko in 12:15 by pinfall with a Belly-to-Belly Suplex.

WCW SATURDAY NIGHT ON TBS

PREVIEW - WEEK ONE - MARCH 1992

It’s the first-ever edition of WCW Saturday Night, and we’re starting things off with a bang! Ron Simmons becomes the latest superstar to try and conquer Harley Race’s Hydra by taking on the second head; the “Beast From The East” Bam Bam Bigelow!

WCW Television Champion “Stunning” Steve Austin defends his championship against Magnum TA’s protege, the young and on-a-roll Shane Douglas. Steve Austin is entering the ninth month of his championship reign, and to hear anyone in The Dangerous Alliance tell it, there’s no end in sight. Can Douglas overcome the champion and, indeed, the entire Dangerous Alliance to become the new champion? Find out on WCW Saturday Night!

Sting will be on hand to introduce his team for War Games, and in a “War Games Exhibition,” likely teammates Barry Windham and “The Natural” Dustin Rhodes take on WCW World Tag Team Champions, The Enforcers of The Dangerous Alliance.

After reclaiming their prized leather jackets, The Fabulous Freebirds have demanded a match with The Diamond Exchange to exact a bit of revenge. Nick Bockwinkel and the Board of Directors have seen fit to grant the match, and it will kick us off this weekend on Saturday Night! Bockwinkel will also be on-hand to approve of the team for War Games, as well as address WCW manager Alexandra York for getting involved in her charge’s matches this weekend on Main Event.

All of this, and Light Heavyweight division action on the first episode of WCW Saturday Night! 6:05 Eastern, only on TBS!

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING SATURDAY NIGHT ON TBS

WEEK ONE - MARCH 1992

FROM THE LUBBOCK MUNICIPAL COLISEUM

v4pxe0J.jpgRO3hoYI.jpgwPqC9Xg.jpg

ANNOUNCE TEAM: JIM ROSS, TONY SCHIAVONE, AND DUSTY RHODES

The announce team welcome us to WCW Saturday Night, now taking place from an arena with a new-look set rather than making every arena out to look like the studio; the set is very business-casual, and the announcers are all wearing business suits to sell how special the occasion is for World Championship Wrestling.

Dusty Rhodes says that WCW is all about action, and tonight isn't gonna be any different. "To the ring, daddy!"

vbT5X9H.jpgyXAFHW3.jpg

THE FABULOUS FREEBIRDS

(MICHAEL P.S. HAYES AND JIMMY "JAM" GARVIN)

VERSUS

THE DIAMOND EXCHANGE

(VINNIE VEGAS AND THE DIAMOND STUDD)

w/ DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE

The Freebirds seem reinvigorated here, working well as a team and cutting the ring off to keep the big man, Vinnie Vegas, out of the ring. The strategy works well, allowing Hayes to pick up the victory for his team as he pins Diamond Studd, bringing on a celebration from Hayes and Garvin as The Diamond Exchange regroup on the outside.

WINNERS: THE FABULOUS FREEBIRDS

The celebration doesn't last long before DDP and his cronies hit the ring and go on the attack, putting the boots to the Freebirds as boos reign down from the crowd. The Diamond Exchange take a moment to showboat over their fallen enemies before clearing out of the ring, Tony Schiavone calling them despicable on commentary before pitching to a commercial break.

GqhJBoG.jpgdhQoVhr.jpg

TOM ZENK

VERSUS

AVATAR

The announcers spend most of the match putting over the WCW Light Heavyweight division and the diversity of the competitors. Avatar is an American martial artist who has studied extensively in Japan, even adopting a mystical Asian presentation while Tom Zenk is good ole American wrassler. Avatar continues to look impressive in the ring while making his opponents look even better, which is something Zenk himself is used to doing most of the time. Zenk picks up the win here, and tells the camera post-match that he's coming for the title.

WINNER: TOM ZENK

yhWJWjc.jpg

Following the match, we go to the new interview are for the first time where Eric Bischoff is standing by with WCW Light Heavyweight Champion Flyin' Brian Pillman. Pillman says there's no division on Earth like the WCW Light Heavyweight division, and guys like Tom Zenk are chomping at the bit to get at the WCW Light Heavyweight title. Pillman says he respects Zenk quite a bit, but before he can think of anything else, there's unfinished business with Jushin Thunder Liger.

Pillman says they've now fought all over the world, and their win-loss record is split including last week's time limit draw. The fans want it, Pillman wants it, Liger has to want it-- so let's do it, one more time, this time with no time limits! There must be a winner so they can move on, so the division can move on, and the champion can know that he is the undisputed best.

"How about that?" Bischoff crows as the fans cheer; he pitches to a commercial, saying they'll be right back with more Light Heavyweight action!

kjxs8kH.jpgPDOlx3l.jpg

We come back from commercial to a somewhat unusual scene: the backstage area. There is no one with a microphone in sight, but Cactus Jack can be heard muttering to himself as he pulls a cameraman along to a clearing in the backstage area where Abdullah the Butcher is waiting with crazy eyes and a fork in his hand.

"I gotcha!" Cactus screeches as he charges at Abdullah, and the two begin brawling.

"Welcome back to Saturday Night, ladies and gentlemen," JR says as the two sadistic big men wail on each other. "We thought this was over between these two, but, apparently, Cactus Jack thought otherwise!"

"It's never over, JR," Dusty Rhodes informs him. "When you hate someone as much as these two men hate one another, it's never over."

Cactus and Abdullah trade blows, neither gaining ground on the other while they move through the backstage area caught in a riotous brawl. As has become tradition during Cactus and Abdullah's brawls, Missy Hyatt makes an appearance to scream as the pair knock down her dressing room door as she is putting on make-up. She races out of the room as Abdullah finally gains an upperhand, hitting Jack in the forehead a few times with the fork and then charging away.

"That's one of the damnedest things I've ever seen," JR muses as we come back to the arena proper.

dHrbSsU.jpgMtCnudb.jpg

JOHNNY B. BADD

VERSUS

SCOTTY FLAMINGO

This match is a tale of two Light Heavyweight division showboats, one face and the other heel. In the end, Flamingo manages to one-up Badd by pulling the tights to get the pinfall win.

WINNER: SCOTTY FLAMINGO

akNd4Et.jpg

After another commercial break, Commissioner Nick Bockwinkel is out to address a few things. The first is that he is here to sign off on the teams for War Games, and the fans are going to be quite happy when they hear who Sting has picked to go against The Dangerous Alliance.

Secondly, while he's been cracking down on Paul E. Dangerously sticking his nose into his client's matches, two other managers seem to have not received the memo about how things are changing in WCW. As we saw earlier tonight, Diamond Dallas Page got involved after the match by joining in an assault on WCW talent. Therefore, next week, The Diamond Exchange with Diamond Dallas Page, will step into the ring for a six-man tag match with The Fabulous Freebirds and a partner of their choosing.

But, lastly, the chief offender: Alexandra York and The York Foundation. As seen on Main Event this weekend, Miss York is still playing a role in the outcome of her clients' matches and that cannot be allowed. From here on out, there will be a $1,000 fine levied against The York Foundation any time Alexandra York is directly involved in the outcome.

hCKEprs.jpg

This brings out York herself, along with the rest of her Foundation members; she says that The York Foundation makes more than enough money daily to cover a meager fine like that. They will continue to play by their own rules, and she will continue to use her computer to strategize matches for her clients. Terrence Taylor tries to intimidate Bockwinkel, but the commish is having none of it; he warns them not to play with fire because, eventually, they'll get burned. As for tonight, Brad Armstrong will be stepping into the ring with Thomas Rich and if Alexandra York, or anyone else for that matter, wants to interfere, they'll be fired!

York raves that Bockwinkel can't do this, but he assures her that he can before leaving the arena to the cheers of the fans.

lcCx2MI.jpgvaENLtp.jpg

BRAD ARMSTRONG

VERSUS

THOMAS RICH

With the threat of termination looming overhead, Alexandra York is left impotent on the outside of the ring. That doesn't stop Rich from trying to cheat, but his underhanded tactics are seemingly impotent as well against Brad Armstrong. The underrated Armstrong puts on a good performance and, without interference from York, pulls off a victory.

WINNER: BRAD ARMSTRONG

Following the break, Eric Bischoff is in the ring to introduce us to Sting!

dbMi75k.jpg

Sting is, of course, here to announce his team for War Games. Without any further adieu, he introduces "The Natural" Dustin Rhodes and Barry Windham.

hAS8j0I.jpgMoqvVil.jpg

The pair come out and shake hands with Sting, Windham saying that his revenge on The Enforcers, Arn Anderson and Larry Zbyszko, has been a long time coming. They smashed his hand in a car door, and he's prepared to smash their limbs one-by-one inside of that cage. Sting thanks them both for joining Sting's Squadron before introducing the fourth member of his team... he may be young, but he has his own score to settle with The Dangerous Aliance... Marcus Alexander Bagwell!

EmEhbwv.jpg

Bagwell says that it all started when "Stunning" Steve Austin and Paul E. Dangerously underestimated him and picked him as an easy target. Come War Games, the target is going to be on their backs, not his. Sting shakes his hand and welcomes him to the team before introducing the fifth and final member of Sting's Squadron-- some might question the pick, but this man has just as much of an issue with The Dangerous Alliance as the rest of them. He might be a little hurt right now, and he'll be coming for the men that did that after War Games. But, for now, Ricky Steamboat is heading into Wrestle War with one thing on his mind: conquering The Dangerous Alliance!

2CrAC1w.jpg

Steamboat is out with taped up ribs, and he says that Harley Race and his Hydra will pay soon enough. But, first it's time to vanquish Paul E. Dangerously and his Dangerous Alliance... it's time for payback. All five men in Sting's Squadron stand tall in the ring and pose for the crowd as Eric Bischoff reminds us it will be these men against "Ravishing" Rick Rude, "Stunning" Steve Austin, "Beautiful" Bobby Eaton, "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson, and "The Living Legend" Larry Zbyszko in War Games at Wrestle War!

But, first, an exhibition: The Enforcers versus Windham & Rhodes, right here, following the break!

NON-TITLE EXHIBITION MATCH

THE ENFORCERS ©

(ARN ANDERSON AND LARRY ZYBYSZKO)

VERSUS

BARRY WINDHAM & "THE NATURAL" DUSTIN RHODES

A competitive exhibition to be sure, these two teams show why they've been feuding for so long while still keeping the audience's attention. Though it is without the titles on the line, the babyfaces manage to pick up the victory here; the first victory for Sting's Squadron on the road to War Games.

WINNERS: BARRY WINDHAM & DUSTIN RHODES

Following the break, Madusa Miceli is out for an extravagant introduction of the WCW Television Champion, "Stunning" Steve Austin. Austin comes out to cut a pre-match promo, eventually drawing out Shane Douglas by saying that he'll, "leave him more crippled than his mentor."

Douglas calls that remark over-the-line before he and Austin go back-and-forth on the mic for a few minutes. Austin eventually goads Douglas into punching him after another jab at Magnum T.A. and the pair brawl until Nick Bockwinkel and a horde of referees separate them.

Bockwinkel announces that this match now has no time limit, there must be a winner! Austin and Miceli are enraged by this revelation, but Bockwinkel tells them to live with it.

SHANE DOUGLAS

These two have been fast rivals, and they work an enthralling brawl for the crowd that comes to a satisfying ending when Douglas hits the Belly-to-Belly Suplex and picks up the win to finally wrest the WCW Television title away from Austin.

WINNER, AND NEW WCW TV CHAMPION: SHANE DOUGLAS

Harley Race is out to cut another promo about his Hydra, saying that "everyone who has tried to slay the Hydra has failed to cut off more than one head." He promises that Ron Simmons won't get past The Beast From The East but, even if he does, the meanest, nastiest, most barbaric head of them all still waits: the WCW World Heavyweight Champion, Big Van Vader.

RON SIMMONS

Despite Harley's earlier promo, Simmons does indeed prove to be the first man to best Bam Bam Bigelow on their way to a showdown with Big Van Vader. A Running Powerslam picks up the victory for the powerhouse from Florida State University, and earns him the WCW World title match at Wrestle War.

WINNER: RON SIMMONS

The announcers thank us for joining them here on TBS for WCW Saturday Night, and Jim Ross signs off for everyone until next weekend!

WCW SATURDAY NIGHT ON TBS

PREVIEW - WEEK TWO - MARCH 1992

Get ready for another action-packed edition of WCW Saturday Night on TBS! This week, in our main event, “Ravishing” Rick Rude defends his WCW United States Championship against Marcus Alexander Bagwell from Sting’s Squadron!

Fresh off being named the number one contender to the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, Ron Simmons will lead The WCW Patriots into battle against Harley Race’s Hydra. Can Simmons keep his momentum up heading into WCW Wrestle War 1992 and his World title match against Big Van Vader? Find out this Saturday!

We all thought it was over between Cactus Jack and Abdullah the Butcher, but Cactus showed us all this past weekend that it is far from over between the two barbaric rivals. They’ll meet in singles action once again, but can the ring contain them this time?

The Samoan SWAT Team are still in possession of stolen gold as they hold the WCW United States Tag Team titles, which rightfully belong to The Steiner Brothers. We’ll see Scott Steiner step into the ring with Samu this week, and Rick take on Fatu next week before heading into the title match at Wrestle War in two weeks!

You heard it from Nick Bockwinkel last week, The Diamond Exchange along with their manager Diamond Dallas Page will step into the ring for six-man tag team action this week with The Fabulous Freebirds and a partner of their choosing. This weekend on Main Event, Michael P.S. Hayes promised they were “bringing the big man” to the ring with them to get the job done. Who did Hayes mean, and which team will come out on top? Tune in to TBS to find out!

Also from Commissioner Bockwinkel, the jig is up for The York Foundation’s cheating ways as they relentlessly try to “acquire” the Armstrong family legacy. Things have been back-and-forth as far as in-ring outcomes go between the family and the Foundation, but Scott Armstrong is back fresh off a tour of Japan to even the odds for his family. Brad, Brian, and Scott step into the ring with The York Foundation this weekend on TBS!

All of this, plus Tom Zenk takes on Scotty Flamingo in the WCW Light Heavyweight division and we learn more about the Wrestle War 1992 card, only on TBS!
