IWGP World Heavyweight Championship Match:

Hiroshi Tanahashi (C) vs Shota Umino

Comments: I love Shota but I don't think this is the right place and time for him to win the big one.

NEVER Openweight Championship Match:

Jeff Cobb (C) vs KUSHIDA

Comments: Picking KUSHIDA here -- Death Riders are more relevant right now.

IWGP Women's Championship Match:

Mercedes Mone (C) vs Evie

Comments:

CHAOS (Kazuchika Okada, Shinsuke Nakamura, & Ren Narita) vs Los Ingobernables de Japon (Hiromu Takahashi, Shingo Takagi, & Tetsuya Naito)

Comments: Could go either way, but I think that LIJ probably comes in with the edge.

Bullet Club (Jay White, Prince Devitt, & Juice Robinson) vs Team Filthy

Comments: I think Bullet Club probably has more stars here.

Aussie Open vs Oskar Leube & Oleg Boltin

NJPW Destruction in Taipei- September 10th, 2023
Attendance: 5,000 at Xinzhuang Gymnasium (New Taipei City, Taiwan)
Commentary Team: Shinpei Nogami & Milano Collection A.T.

NJPW's first show in Taiwan since 2016 kicked off with a video recapping NJPW's history with the island. From big shows featuring the great Antonio Inoki to the huge crossover with AJPW back in 2012, Taiwan has seen its fair share of amazing NJPW action. Now, the island gets to witness a huge event tonight featuring a gigantic IWGP World Heavyweight Championship match between the legendary Hiroshi Tanahashi and the upstart DEATH RIDER Shota Umino! We then went straight into our opening contest of the evening...

Aussie Open vs Oskar Leube & Oleg Boltin
Aussie Open are looking for revenge following their loss at Southern Showdown in the IWGP Tag Team Championship match. A match where they weren't even involved in the final decision! They took their anger out on two of NJPW's newest young lions tonight, Oskar Leube & Oleg Boltin. Boltin wowed the Taipei crowd with his size and raw wrestling abilities, but Leube wasn't so lucky. In the end, Leube fell victim to the Coriolis from Aussie Open to give the former IWGP Tag Team Champions the win.

Bullet Club (Jay White, Prince Devitt, & Juice Robinson) vs Team Filthy
Ahead of Jay White's big IWGP United States Championship match with 'Filthy' Tom Lawlor at Destruction in Kobe, both men's respective groups have gathered in Taipei for a six-man tag team match tonight. This match was a good match and the crowd was surprisingly behind Bullet Club. Prince Devitt started things off with Clark Connors, with the two men locking up in a collar-and-elbow tie-up. Connors got the better of the initial exchange after he hit Devitt with a belly to belly suplex. Connors then threw Devitt into the corner and hit him with a knife edge chop before hitting him with a running bulldog. Connors went to the top rope and attempted a diving elbow drop, but Devitt rolled out of the way at the last second. Devitt then ran off the ropes and hit Connors with a slingblade. Devitt then tagged out to Juice Robinson, who started stomping the living daylights out of Connors in the corner. Juice then went to finish things early with Pulp Friction, but Connors reversed it into a spinning back suplex. Connors then made the hot tag to Lawlor, who ran wild on Juice with a bevy of lariats and suplexes. Lawlor then launched Juice across the ring with a Biel throw. That turned out to backfire on Lawlor as Juice landed in his corner and Jay White tagged himself in! White & Lawlor started tearing into each other, with Lawlor looking like he gained control with a stiff forearm smash, but White responded with an enzuigiri! The match came to an end when Lawlor stumbled back into his corner, where Alex Coughlin tagged himself in. Coughlin charged at White and hit him with a flying shoulder tackle, but a follow-up German suplex failed when Jay White elbowed out of it. White then caught Coughlin with a surprise Blade Runner! White made the cover as Devitt & Juice kept Connors & Lawlor at bay and got the three for Bullet Club. Afterwards, Jay White grabbed the IWGP United States Championship, held it high in the air, and told Lawlor that the title would belong to White after their fight in Kobe next week!

CHAOS (Kazuchika Okada, Shinsuke Nakamura, & Ren Narita) vs Los Ingobernables de Japon (Hiromu Takahashi, Tetsuya Naito, & Shingo Takagi)
Shinsuke Nakamura will face Hiromu Takahashi in the main event of Destruction in Kobe in a huge match for Hiromu's G1 Climax Certificate. Elsewhere, Okada is still looking to get revenge on Shingo for Shingo beating him in the G1 Climax semifinals and Naito's just trying to stay focused following several recent distractions from SANADA. Speaking of SANADA, he joined the commentary team before the match, continuing his one-sided mental war with Naito. This match was a good match and the crowd was split between both groups. Tetsuya Naito and Kazuchika Okada started things off with a bit of playing to the crowd. Eventually things really started off with Okada and Naito locking up in a collar-and-elbow tie-up. Neither man got control and the two regrouped on opposite sides of the ring. That allowed SANADA to stand up from the commentary table and yell at Naito, calling him a "perro" and a "bitch!" Naito rolled out of the ring and tried confronting SANADA, but SANADA hid behind play-by-play commentator Shinpei Nogami. Naito rolled back in the ring, but was immediately met with a beautiful-looking dropkick from Okada. Okada then threw Naito into the corner and hit him with a knife edge chop before choking Naito with his boot. Referee Red Shoes broke the choke, but Okada went right back to choking Naito immediately after that. Red Shoes broke it up again and then threatened to disqualify Okada if he did it again! Okada complied and hit Naito with a slap to the chest that reverberated throughout the arena! Okada tagged out to Ren Narita, who hit Naito with a running dropkick. Narita then attempted a belly to belly suplex, but Naito wiggled out of it and hit Narita with a spinebuster. Naito then tagged out to Hiromu, who went to the top rope and hit Narita with a missile dropkick! Hiromu played to the crowd a little bit before hitting Narita with a leaping lariat! Narita tagged out to Nakamura, who then began taunting Hiromu. Just as Hiromu looked to go at Shinsuke, Shingo tagged himself in and hit Nakamura with a big boot. Shingo then ran off the ropes and hit Nakamura with the Pumping Bomber, but Nakamura kicked out at two on the ensuing pinfall attempt. The match came to an end when Shingo tagged back out to Naito, who hit Shinsuke with a running bulldog. Naito then set himself up in the corner, but when Red Shoes was distracted by Nakamura trying to unhook the turnbuckle pad...

SANADA ran to the apron and clocked Naito with some brass knuckles!

Naito crumbled to the floor as SANADA ran to the back before Hiromu & Shingo could get to him. Shinsuke then set himself up in the corner and hit Naito with the Bomaye! Shinsuke then made the cover and got the three.

IWGP Women's Championship Match:

Mercedes Mone (C) vs Evie
Mone is making her first defense of the IWGP Women's Championship after winning it at Forbidden Door back in June. She faces some stiff competition in her first hurdle, the hard-hitting New Zealander Evie, who defeated Toni Storm back at Southern Showdown to win this opportunity. This match was a good match and the crowd was solidly behind Mone. These two women started things off with a handshake as a sign of respect before locking up in a collar-and-elbow tie-up. Evie struck first when she hit Mone with an elbow smash before quickly following that up with a jumping high knee. Evie then ran off the ropes and hit Mone with a big boot, sending the IWGP Women's Champion crashing to the outside. Evie then taunted Mone, which threw the champ off her rhythm a bit, clearly weirded out that she wasn't the one dishing out the verbal jabs. Mone eventually got back in the ring, but she was immediately met with a dropkick from Evie that sent her crashing into the corner. Evie then started stomping the living daylights out of the champ, only stopping when referee Daichi Murayama threatened to disqualify her. Evie then went to the opposite corner and attempted a running kick, but Mone rolled out of the way at the last second. As Evie got caught in the ropes following the missed kick, Mone snuck up from behind her and sent her flying across the ring with a release German suplex. Mone then started stomping Evie's left shoulder, obviously setting her up for a Statement Maker later. However, Mone's stomps were stopped by Evie, who caught Mone with a suprise up kick, which sent Mone stumbling backwards. Mone tried to catch her breath by getting down on one knee, but that was stopped by Evie, who ran off the ropes and hit Mone with a Shining Wizard!!! Evie made the cover, but Mone kicked out at two! The match came to an end when Evie scooped up Mone and tried hitting her with the Go To Kick, but Mone wiggled out of it and hit Evie with a backstabber, immediately transitioning it into the Statement Maker!!! Evie clawed desperately for the ropes, but eventually had no choice but to tap out!
WINNER: Mercede Mone

NEVER Openweight Championship Match:

a7oiX7W.jpg VS DDrjhqB.jpg
Jeff Cobb (C) vs KUSHIDA
KUSHIDA won this opportunity by being Shota Umino's partner in the big three-way tag team match at Road to Destruction Night Two. KUSHIDA was a little mad after that match, mostly because Shota Umino stole the pin and the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship Match, but also because he knew he'd have to face the monstrous Jeff Cobb! Cobb has taken down everyone in his path, but KUSHIDA has a history of being a bit of a giant killer, so if there's anyone who can take down Cobb, it might be him. This match was a good match and the crowd was solidly behind KUSHIDA. KUSHIDA started things off by charging at Cobb and unloading a barrage of strikes onto the NEVER Openweight Champion. KUSHIDA kept punching Cobb, but was eventually stopped when Cobb threw him off and sent him flying across the ring. KUSHIDA tried charging at Cobb again, but Cobb caught him this time and hit him with a uranage. Cobb scooped up KUSHIDA and hit him with a powerslam before running off the ropes and hitting KUSHIDA with a big senton. Cobb picked up KUSHIDA and tried ending things early with the Tour of the Islands, but KUSHIDA reversed it into a tornado DDT. KUSHIDA then jumped on Cobb's back, ala Yoda in The Empire Strikes Back, and tried locking in some sort of rear naked choke. Cobb responded by throwing KUSHIDA off of him and blasting the DEATH RIDERS leader with a lariat that sent him flying inside-out. KUSHIDA stumbled into the corner, but was immediately met by a big body avalanche from Cobb. Cobb then picked up KUSHIDA and set him flying out of the ring with a gorilla press! Cobb then rolled out of the ring, grabbed KUSHIDA, and sent him crashing into the ring post. Cobb then threw KUSHIDA back in the ring, went to the top rope, and hit KUSHIDA with a diving body splash! The match came to an end when Cobb tried grabbing KUSHIDA to set him up for the Tour of the Islands. However, KUSHIDA caught him by surprise and locked him in the DEATH LOCK!!! Cobb clawed desperately for the ropes, but KUSHIDA kept cinching the hold in. Just as it looked like Cobb would tap, he was able to gather enough strength to get to his feet and slam KUSHIDA into the turnbuckle pad, but it wasn't enough to break the hold! Cobb had to resort to plan B, as he hit KUSHIDA with a fisherman's suplex, which finally broke the hold. That only seemed to enrage the NEVER Openweight Champion, as Cobb grabbed KUSHIDA by the hair, whipped him off the ropes, and hit him with the Tour of the Islands! Cobb wasn't finished though, as he picked KUSHIDA up and hit him with another Tour of the Islands! Cobb teased going for the pin, but instead picked KUSHIDA back up and hit him with a third Tour of the Islands!!! Cobb then put his foot on a lifeless KUSHIDA and got the three. Cobb walked out with the NEVER Openweight Championship as medics and fellow DEATH RIDERS member Karl Fredericks tended to KUSHIDA.
WINNER: Jeff Cobb

Hiroshi Tanahashi (C) vs Shota Umino
Tanahashi hasn't defended the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship since Forbidden Door, so he was forced to defend it tonight in Taipei by NJPW President Takami Ohbari. Despite ACE Entertainment threatening legal action, the match has gone on as scheduled, with Hiroshi Tanahashi facing a somewhat surprising challenger, DEATH RIDERS member Shota Umino. Shota, a rising star in NJPW, won this opportunity after winning a three-way tag team match with fellow DEATH RIDER KUSHIDA. For Shota's sake, this one should hopefully go better than KUSHIDA's outing against Jeff Cobb earlier. This match was a great match and the crowd was solidly behind Shota. Shota started things off by offering a handshake as a sign of respect to the legendary Tanahashi. Tanahashi responded by slapping Shota across the face! Shota laughed it off for a second before hitting the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion with a stiff forearm smash! Tanahashi stumbled back into the corner, where Shota hit him with a barrage of knife edge chops. Tanahashi tried rolling outside to recover, but Shota grabbed him by his hair and put him back on the apron. That was where Shota grabbed Tanahashi and sent him face-first into the ring post! Tanahashi crashed to the outside as Shota started getting the crowd going. Shota then tried to finish this hot start by hitting Tanahashi with a diving splash to the outside, but Tanahashi rolled out of the way at the last second. Tanahashi picked up Shota and sent him crashing into the ringside barricade before he started choking out the youngster with a camera cable! Tanahashi stopped choking Shota when referee Red Shoes threatened to disqualify the champion. Hiroshi responded by getting in Red Shoes' face and telling him that "daddy" can't protect his son now as Red Shoes backed down. Tanahashi's beef with Red Shoes may have backfired as he turned around right into a missile dropkick from Shota! Shota then tried finishing off Hiroshi with the DEATH RIDER DDT, but Tanahashi reversed it into a belly to belly suplex. Tanahashi then locked Shota in the Texas Cloverleaf, but Shota was able to wiggle out of it relatively quickly. The match came to an end when Tanahashi tried locking Shota back in the Texas Cloverleaf, but Shota caught him with a surprise enzuigiri. Shota then grabbed Tanahashi and hit him with the DEATH RIDER DDT!!! The Taipei crowd erupted as Shota made the cover...

CLAUDIO CSRO PULLED OUT REFEREE RED SHOES JUST AS HE WENT TO COUNT THE THREE!!!

An enraged Red Shoes started yelling at CSRO about why he stopped the count, while CSRO kept trying to keep Red Shoes from getting back in the ring. As Shota looked to investigate what was going on, Tanahashi rolled out of the ring, grabbed the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, and hit Shota with the belt!!! Tanahashi threw the belt outside and went to the top rope as CSRO gave up trying to argue with Red Shoes. Tanahashi then hit Shota with the High Fly Flow! Tanahashi then made the cover...

Once again, Hiroshi Tanahashi has cheated to retain the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. We know ACE Entertainment is this big multi-media conglomerate, but are they really that powerful to protect Hiroshi Tanahashi from the repercussions from cheating this much?!? NJPW officials have to do something about this!

Not content with just beating Shota Umino, Hiroshi Tanahashi & Claudio CSRO started beating the living daylights out of Shota after the match! This was such a classic ACE Entertainment move, they knew Shota didn't have anybody backstage to help him with KUSHIDA on his way to the hospital and Karl Fredericks en route with him, so they might as well try to extinguish the flame of one of NJPW's brightest young stars! The two men beat the living hell out of Shota, with CSRO hitting Shota with a few uppercuts and Tanahashi hitting Shota with a slingblade. Tanahashi then went to the top rope and tried hitting Shota with another High Fly Flow, but that was interrupted by some somewhat familiar music...

IT'S KONOSUKE TAKESHITA!

Takeshita, who we last saw in the G1 Climax, ran down to the ring like a house on fire as the Taipei crowd exploded in cheers. Tanahashi & CSRO quickly fled the ring as the commentary team started talking about the NJPW roster having a new weapon in their war against ACE Entertainment. Takeshita helped Shota to his feet and the two men shared a handshake. Takeshita went to the opposite side of the ring and asked for a microphone, but suddenly...

The crowd gasped in shock and then started booing the living daylights out of Takeshita. Tanahashi & CSRO began smiling and clapping on the outside as a wide smile engulfed Takeshita's face. The crowd started throwing trash in the ring as Takeshita picked up Shota and hit him with Absolute Thunder! Tanahashi & CSRO got back in the ring and embraced Takeshita with a hug. The three men stood tall as more trash flooded the ring and Destruction in Taipei came to a close.

BREAKING NEWS:

PAC SUFFERS BROKEN ANKLE, OUT FOR REST OF THE YEAR

IWGP JUNIOR HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE TO BE VACATED

"During his match against Robbie Eagles at Southern Showdown earlier this month, PAC suffered a broken ankle/tendon damage that necessitated surgery to fix it. NJPW doctors have placed his recovery time at about 4-5 months and as a result, PAC has been forced to vacate the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship (despite several legal threats from ACE Entertainment)."

cxNMoVa.jpg

"As a result of PAC's injury, a one-night, 16-man tournament has been announced for next month to determine the new IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion! It also marks the return of the Super J Cup after nearly four years on the backburner. We look forward to crowning a new champion soon!"

s5Cbs2w.jpg

Shota Umino: "Tonight was awful to put it lightly. I thought I knew Konosuke Takeshita well to be honest with you. We hit it off pretty well during the G1 Climax, hell we've even been out to the clubs together a few times since then! But if that turncoat wants to sell his soul to the devil to get some money, who am I to stop him. If he wants to join that scumbag Claudio CSRO and that arrogant asshole Hiroshi Tanahashi, then hey, you've made your bed and now you're going to have to lay in-"

*Suddenly, Shota's phone started going off"

"Sorry guys, it's the hospital where KUSHIDA's at."

*Shota listened intently to the person on the other end of the call*

"Okay, thank you for the update."

*CLICK*

"Well, KUSHIDA's going to be okay. Not wrestling-wise, but he should be released from the hospital by tomorrow. That damn Jeff Cobb thinks he can just walk around here like he owns the place and injure everyone. Well, someone's got to show him that won't fly..."

Hiroshi Tanahashi: "Another title match, another successful title defense for ACE Entertainment! Maybe that'll teach that little punk Shota Umino to stick his neck in adult business. If my ass-kicking didn't teach him that, maybe our little post-match gift from ACE Entertainment's newest acquisition certainly did!"

Konosuke Takeshita: "I would first like to start by saying thank you to Mr. Tanahashi and the rest of ACE Entertainment for inviting me to join their ranks. It's always been a dream of mine to work with the best wrestler to ever lace up a pair of boots and when Mr. Tanahashi offered me that opportunity, I'd be a fool to decline it. Shota, it's nothing personal kid, it's simply business."

Hiroshi Tanahashi: "I couldn't have said it better myself Konosuke, now if you need us, we've got an important meeting tomorrow at ACE Entertainment HQ for future business strategies. Oh and remember, GO ACE!"

NJPW Destruction in Kobe- September 17th, 2023
Attendance: 8,000 at World Memorial Hall (Kobe, Japan)
Commentary Team: Shinpei Nogami & Milano Collection A.T.

Destruction in Kobe kicked off with a video hyping up our biggest contests for tonight. From the huge Roppongi 3K reunion match to the IWGP United States Championship match between Tom Lawlor and Jay White and the battle between Hiromu Takahashi and Shinsuke Nakamura for the G1 Climax Certificate, this year's Destruction in Kobe is sure to be one for the ages! After a brief introduction from our commentary team, we went straight into our opening contest...

CHAOS (Kazuchika Okada & Ren Narita) vs Shoza Mori & Hoshiko Hasegawa
Kazuchika Okada has been a bit of a crank recently, getting a bit pissy with Shinsuke Nakamura after Nakamura challenged Hiromu to the G1 Climax Certificate match tonight and he didn't look too pleased teaming up with Nakamura's protege tonight. Okada took that anger out on the young lions tonight, beating the living hell out of them for just under eight minutes. He barely let Narita get any offense in, pretty much immediately tagging back in when Narita tagged himself in. In the end, Okada finished off Hasegawa with the Rainmaker to get the win for CHAOS.
WINNERS: CHAOS

United Empire (Will Ospreay & Aussie Open) vs Bullet Club (Prince Devitt, Karl Anderson, & Doc Gallows)
United Empire have been looking to get their momentum back on track since the G1 Climax. From Will Ospreay barely missing out on making it to the G1 Climax semifinals and Aussie Open failing to win the IWGP Tag Team Championships from The Samoan SWAT Team at Southern Showdown, they're looking for something to spark some momentum. Maybe a win tonight against the Bullet Club originals will do so! This match was a good match and the crowd was solidly behind United Empire. The respective big men of each group (Mark Davis & Doc Gallows) started things off tonight, with Gallows taking Davis down with a big boot. Gallows then threw Davis off the ropes and hit him with a big back body drop that shook the ring. Gallows scooped up Davis and tried hitting him with a powerslam, but Davis wiggled out of it and hit the Bullet Club big man with a German suplex! Davis then tagged out to Kyle Fletcher and the two men hit Gallows with a double lifting DDT. Fletcher then hit Gallows with an enzuigiri and caught him with a running high knee when Gallows tried rebounding off the ropes. Fletcher then tried hitting Gallows with a spinning heel kick, but Gallows caught him and hit him with a powerbomb! Gallows then tagged out to Devitt, who began stomping the living daylights out of Fletcher in the corner. Devitt picked up Fletcher and hit him with a dragon suplex before running off the ropes and hitting him with a slingblade. Devitt then went to the top rope and hit Fletcher with a diving double foot stomp, which only got a two count on the ensuing pinfall attempt. Devitt then tried finishing off Fletcher with Bloody Sunday, but Fletcher reversed it into a release German suplex! Fletcher then tagged out to Ospreay, but an exciting matchup with Prince Devitt was stopped before it even started when Karl Anderson tagged himself in. The match came to an end when Ospreay ducked a lariat from Anderson, jumped off the middle rope, and hit Anderson with the OsCutter! Ospreay then scooped up Anderson and attempted the StormBreaker, but Anderson wiggled out of it by raking Ospreay's eyes. Anderson then tried hitting Ospreay with the Gun Stun, but Ospreay caught it and hit Anderson with the StormBreaker!!! Ospreay then made the cover and got the three!
WINNERS: United Empire

Roppongi 3K vs AKUMA & AKUJIN
SHO & YOH dominated the NJPW junior heavyweight tag team division from 2017-2021, winning the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships on five separate occasions. That all changed in August 2021 when SHO turned on YOH and joined Bullet Club. Since then, the two men have tried to destroy each other over who's the top dog in the junior heavyweight division. However, they've been drawn back together tonight to take on common enemies, the demonic AKUMA & AKUJIN. These two demons have tormented both men for months, with them recently claiming that their "master" would make his presence known tonight after they kill SHO & YOH once and for all! This match was a good match and the crowd was solidly behind Roppongi 3K. SHO started the match off by arguing with YOH, which allowed the demons to double-team them. AKUMA and AKUJIN hit SHO with a backbreaker-leg drop combo before AKUMA hit SHO with a standing moonsault. AKUMA then started cranking SHO's neck before hitting him with a running kick to the chest. AKUMA then tagged out to AKUJIN, who hit SHO with a running knee drop. AKUJIN then began clawing at SHO's eyes, but that was quickly stopped by referee Red Shoes. AKUJIN then tried going after SHO again, but SHO caught him with a forearm smash and a jumping DDT to regain control. SHO then threw AKUJIN into the corner and hit him with a knife edge chop. A follow-up chop was stopped by YOH, who tagged himself in much to SHO's chagrin. YOH then began stomping the living hell out of AKUJIN, only stopping when Red Shoes threatened to disqualify him. YOH then started tearing at AKUJIN's mask, trying to reveal who's been tormenting him for so long. That was stopped when AKUJIN kicked him below the belt and hit YOH with a running bulldog. AKUJIN then tagged out to AKUMA, who hit YOH with a spinning wheel kick. AKUMA then went to the apron and hit YOH with a springboard 450 splash, which drew loud gasps from the Kobe crowd. The match came to an end when AKUMA went to the top rope to attempt the Gates of Hell, but YOH rolled out of the way at the last second! YOH then went to tag out to SHO, but at the last second, SHO was pulled off of the apron by...

Another masked man!

SHO tried swinging at the masked man, but the man spit blue mist in SHO's face! SHO writhed in pain as the masked man raised his arm, which caused AKUMA to rise up at the same time! YOH turned around right into a superkick from AKUMA! AKUMA then went to the top rope and hit YOH with the Gates of Hell!!! AKUMA then made the cover and got the three.

Afterwards, as AKUMA & AKUJIN stood tall in the ring, the mysterious masked man grabbed a microphone and rolled in the ring. First, he instructed the demons to grab SHO & YOH, which they did. The two demons forced SHO & YOH to watch as the masked man began to talk. He said that he was the master that AKUMA & AKUJIN had been talking about, the man who has been pulling the strings to torment SHO & YOH for months! The man said that he was finally ready to reveal himself after his demons destroyed SHO & YOH tonight. The man then turned around and unmasked, unveiling...

MASTER WATO?!?!?!?

The crowd gasped in shock as Wato got in SHO & YOH's faces, screaming about how he was tired of being overlooked! Wato said he was stuck in a tag team with some old guy obsessed with asses while SHO & YOH got all the attention and that was bullsh*t! So, Wato had to resort to some "demonic" actions to get what he truly deserves, a spot at the top of NJPW! Wato then said that the old Master Wato was dead and that WATO would soon rise and burn down the rest of the NJPW junior heavyweight division. WATO then hit SHO & YOH with bicycle kicks, knocking them out of the ring. WATO finished off by saying that he, AKUMA, & AKUJIN were The Scourge and they would reshape NJPW in their own demonic image!

Eita & El Lindaman (C) vs Bandido & Mascara Dorada
After that stunning development, we now go to our first title match of the evening. Eita & El Lindaman won the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships from United Empire's Francesco Akira & Mike Bailey at the G1 Climax Final last month, but now they face their first challengers in the high-flying Bandido & Mascara Dorada. Dorada & Bandido won this shot by defeating Akira & Bailey and Ryu Lee & Dralistico in an exciting three-way tag match during the first night of the Road to Destruction Tour. This match was a good match and the crowd was solidly behind Bandido & Dorada. El Lindaman and Mascara Dorada kicked things off with a collar-and-elbow tie-up, in which Lindaman hit Dorada with a stiff forearm smash and a belly-to-belly suplex combo. Lindaman then threw Dorada off the ropes and hit him with a lariat that nearly sent Dorada flying inside-out. Lindaman scooped up Dorada and hit him with a military press slam, but only got a two count on the ensuing pinfall attempt. Lindaman then tried locking Dorada in some sort of crossface, but Dorada elbowed his way out and hit Lindaman with an arm drag. Dorada then grabbed Lindaman by the hand and did a rope-walk into a hurricanrana! Dorada then tagged out to Bandido and the two men hit Lindaman with a double springboard dropkick! Bandido made the cover, but Lindaman kicked out at two. Bandido scooped up Lindaman and attempted a dragon suplex, but Lindaman landed on his feet and hit Bandido with an enzuigiri. Lindaman then tagged out to Eita, who clipped Bandido's leg with a running strike. Eita picked up Bandido and hit him with a back suplex before hitting him with a standing moonsault. Eita then continued to work over Bandido's leg by locking him in a figure-four leg lock. That didn't get a tap out, but it did do some damage to Bandido's leg. Eita then tried locking Bandido in the Numero Uno, but Bandido wiggled out of it and launched Eita with a release German suplex. The match came to an end when Bandido tagged out to Dorada, who hit Eita with a top-rope blockbuster! Dorada then scooped Eita up and attempted the Dorada Screwdriver, but Eita was able to tear at Dorada's mask to wiggle out. Eita then tagged out to Lindaman and the two hit Dorada with the Cruz del Oro! Lindaman made the cover as Eita kept a hobbled Bandido at bay and got the three.
WINNERS: Eita & El Lindaman

IWGP United States Championship Match:

9zVFs0I.jpg VS eLb37f8.jpg
'Filthy' Tom Lawlor (C) vs Jay White
These two have been feuding since the G1 Climax press conference when White mocked Lawlor's over-the-top entrance to the event. That really irked Lawlor, who brought the fire to their G1 Climax matchup. Jay White won that contest, but only after a near-20 minute war. With that win, he earned himself a shot at the IWGP United States Championship! Now, White looks to win the IWGP United States Championship almost exactly one year after he did so last year! This match was a good match and the crowd was surprisingly behind Jay White. Both men started things off by exchanging a barrage of back-and-forth quick strikes, with neither man gaining control. The two men started dueling with strikes again, with neither man getting an advantage again! The third time was the charm though as this strike duel ended with Tom Lawlor on top after a huge forearm smash that sent White crashing off the ropes. Lawlor then caught a rebounding White with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Lawlor then started working over White's arm, stomping the living hell out of it and locking in some sort of armbar. White was able to wiggle out of it relatively quickly and hit Lawlor with a lariat to the back of the head. It was now White's turn to lay a beatdown on Lawlor as he started stomping the living daylights out of Lawlor's sternum. White then scooped up Lawlor and hit him with the Kiwi Krusher! White made the cover, but Lawlor kicked out at two. White then tried finishing things off early with the Blade Runner, but Lawlor was able to reverse it and lock in the Crossface Chickenwing! White was able to escape that by pushing Lawlor into referee Marty Asami. White then took advantage of the knocked down ref by kicking Lawlor below the belt! Lawlor keeled over in pain as White grabbed him and hit him with the Blade Runner!!! White made the cover, but there was no one to count the three! White broke the pin and went to wake up Asami by shaking him. It eventually worked, but White turned around right into an overhead belly-to-belly suplex from Lawlor. The match came to an end when Lawlor tried locking White in the Rear Naked Choke. Lawlor got the hold in and eventually got to the mat by locking White in the body scissors! White started elbowing his way out and was eventually able to get a mount on Lawlor. White started unloading haymakers on Lawlor, but Lawlor was able to dodge one and catch White in a small package for the three!!! White stood in the corner shocked as Lawlor grabbed the IWGP United States Championship and celebrated like he just won the World Cup and became President at the same time!
WINNER: 'Filthy' Tom Lawlor

After the match ended, Jay White slowly sulked his way up the ramp as Tom Lawlor continued his over-the-top celebration. A cheap shot from Jay White!

White clocked Ospreay in the back of the head with a forearm smash! White then started beating the living hell out of Ospreay, yelling in his face "DO YOU THINK YOU'RE BETTER THAN ME!?!?" White then called Ospreay a "DODGY KNACKER!" before hitting him with a Blade Runner at the top of the ramp! White posed over Ospreay as Team Filthy silently sneaked out of the ring.

G1 Climax Certificate Match:

HIxRU6J.jpg VS 5MBE9LJ.jpg
Hiromu Takahashi (C) vs Shinsuke Nakamura
Hiromu won the 2023 G1 Climax in a hellacious contest with Shingo Takagi last month. Now he has to go through the traditional gauntlet of challengers gunning to win a shot at the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom! His first challenger is the legendary Shinsuke Nakamura, who challenged Hiromu after he pinned LIJ leader Tetsuya Naito on night one of the Road to Destruction Tour. Now Nakamura looks to win another shot at the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship after losing to Hiroshi Tanahashi at Hyper Battle! This match was an amazing match and the crowd was split between both men. Hiromu and Shinsuke started things off with a handshake before they locked up in a collar-and-elbow tie-up. Nakamura got control there by shoving off Hiromu, which led to a staredown between both men. As both men circled the ring, Nakamura stopped and told Hiromu to "COME ON!!!" which led Hiromu to rush at him with a shotgun dropkick. Nakamura simply dodged the dropkick, leading to Hiromu falling flat on his back. Nakamura then got in Hiromu's face and wagged his finger, which led to Hiromu kicking Nakamura square in the face! Hiromu then hit Nakamura with a running high knee before hitting him with an exploder suplex. Nakamura rolled to the outside, but there's no rest for the wicked as Hiromu ran off the ropes and hit Nakamura with a huge suicide dive! As the crowd exploded in cheers, Hiromu threw Shinsuke back in the ring. Hiromu then went to the top rope and tried to hit Nakamura with a Phoenix Splash, but Nakamura got his knees up at the last second. As Hiromu writhed in pain, Nakamura scooped him up and hit him with a German suplex. Nakamura then started unloading a barrage of kicks into Hiromu's chest, eventually finishing things off with a roundhouse kick to Hiromu's head! Nakamura made the cover, but Hiromu kicked out at two. Nakamura then ran to the corner to attempt the Bomaye, but Hiromu rolled out of the way at the last second. Nakamura was able to catch himself before he hit his knee on the ropes, but he turned right around into an enzuigiri from Hiromu! Shinsuke went down to one knee, which allowed Hiromu to run off the ropes and hit Nakamura with a Shining Wizard! The match came to an end when Hiromu tried hitting Nakamura with the Time Bomb, but Nakamura was able to wiggle out of it and lock Hiromu in the Triangle Choke!!! Nakamura kept cinching in the hold as Hiromu fell to both knees. He kept fading and it looked like Nakamura had gotten the win...

BUT HIROMU WAS ABLE TO MUSTER ENOUGH STRENGTH TO GET BACK UP!

NJPW Destruction in Kobe Post-Show Press Conference

09wW4nH.jpgFflZ3LP.jpgEODbfPX.jpg

WATO: "For too long, everyone in New Japan Pro-Wrestling has been resting on their laurels. But NO MORE! The era of your SHO's, your YOH's, the Bandido's, the PAC's is OVER! We will burn that era to the ground and reshape the NJPW junior heavyweight division in our own image. And hey, no better place to start than by winning the Super J Cup and winning what should have been mine a long time ago, the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship! The way to the grandmaster is DEAD! But, the way to the 'King of the Underworld' has only just begun!"

rYZUX4Y.jpg

ByRBaOh.jpg QvgtRbr.jpg

SHO: "AHHHHHHH, WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!?!?"

YOH: "I'll tell you what that was, that was a cheap shot from someone who I expected more from. WATO, Master Wato, Kawato-san, whatever you're calling yourself nowadays, I trusted you man. You were supposed to be the bright light of the future of NJPW, but now, you're just-"

SHO: "A PIECE OF TRASH, LIKE I ALWAYS THOUGHT YOU WERE. NOW WHILE MY PARTNER HERE DIDN'T SHARE MY SENTIMENTS BEFORE TONIGHT, HE'S RIGHT NOW. WATO, AKUMA, AKUJIN, WHATEVER OTHER DEMONS ARE OUT THERE, YOU. WILL. BE. DESTROYED!"

rYZUX4Y.jpg

9zVFs0I.jpg

'Filthy' Tom Lawlor (in English): "WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! JAY WHITE, I TOLD YOU THAT YOU COULDN'T HANDLE THE BEST OF TEAM FILTHY AND I WAS RIGHT DAMN IT! And hey, now that it looks like my other potential challenger is tied up with the LOSER THAT I BEAT TONIGHT!, I think I'm going to head back to the good 'ol US of A to give some of those jabronis a shot at this IWGP United States Championship. Since clearly, nobody here can hold a candle to ol' 'Filthy Tom!' Now, if you need me and my boys, Sone, drinks are on me baby!"

rYZUX4Y.jpg

eLb37f8.jpg

Jay White (in English): "That f*cking Will Ospreay, that f*cking Tom Lawlor, this f*cking company in general! I am sick and tired of the disrespect shown to not just me, but the entirety of Bullet Club! Ol' Billy Knacker and the rest of his United Jackasses just think they can walk in here and run this place. Well, not on my watch. Billy, consider tonight's beatdown a lesson, stay out of Bullet Club's way or face the consequences!"

rYZUX4Y.jpg

HIxRU6J.jpg

Hiromu Takahashi: "Nakamura-san! That was one hell of a battle, but the time bomb keeps ticking tonight in Kobe! Now, I know this is kind of a rarity for me, but I'm deadset on one man and one man only. Hiroshi Tanahashi! You may have cheated (as you always do) to defeat Shota at Destruction in Taipei and you may have a new running buddy in that turncoat Konosuke Takeshita, but there's always going to be one constant in your life from now until Wrestle Kingdom. It's going to be a time bomb in your ear, just ticking down until January 4th when it explodes and ends both your reign as IWGP World Heavyweight Champion and ACE Entertainment!"

NJPW New Japan Road Night One- October 1st, 2023
Attendance: 2,000 at Korakuen Hall (Tokyo, Japan)
Commentary Team: Shinpei Nogami & Milano Collection A.T.

-Eita & El Lindaman defeated young lions Hoshiko Hasegawa & Yoshi Tamazaki in a dull match to kick things off tonight in Tokyo. Fresh off of a successful defense of the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships at Destruction in Kobe, Eita & El Lindaman absolutely destroyed two of NJPW's newest young lions tonight. Eita eventually got the win after making Tamazaki tap out to the Numero Uno. Afterwards, Eita announced that he would be representing their tag team in the Super J Cup and that he would bring the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship to new heights! (55/C-)

-Sabre-gun's El Desperado, DOUKI, & Yoshinobu Kanemaru defeated CHAOS's YOH, Robbie Eagles, & Tiger Mask IV in a decent match. Speaking of the Super J Cup, both Despy and YOH will be partaking in it, so this one was a bit of a preview tonight in Tokyo. This one was pretty back-and-forth, but it was Sabre-gun's mental edge that pushed them over the top tonight (YOH was still distracted by the demons). In the end, Despy finished off Tiger Mask with the Pinche Loco after just under 14 minutes to get the win. (68/C+)

-Bullet Club's Jay White, Prince Devitt, & Juice Robinson defeated KENTA, David Finlay, & Tama Tonga in a good match. Jay White was looking determined tonight, fresh off of his merciless beatdown of Will Ospreay at Destruction in Kobe. That was bad news for KENTA & co., who had all done something in the past to piss off Jay White. As a result, White took his anger out on them, nearly drawing a disqualification at some points because of it! In the end though, White was able to suppress his rage long enough to finish off Finlay with the Blade Runner. Afterwards, White mocked Will Ospreay by doing his hand sign and challenging him to a match at King of Pro-Wrestling! (75/B-)

-Aussie Open defeated TMDK's Mikey Nicholls & Shane Haste in a good match. This one had to feel cathartic for Kyle Fletcher & Mark Davis. They were supposed to get a normal IWGP Tag Team Championship match against The Samoan SWAT Team at Southern Showdown, but a fluke win by TMDK at the G1 Climax Final stopped that and probably led to Jimmy & Jey Fatu retaining the titles. Well, they made sure it wasn't going to happen again as Aussie Open was able to defeat TMDK tonight in Tokyo. In the end, Fletcher & Davis hit Nicholls with the Coriolis to get the win. Afterwards, they laid down the challenge, they wanted The Samoan SWAT Team at King of Pro-Wrestling! (82/B)

ACE Entertainment (Hiroshi Tanahashi & Konosuke Takeshita) vs Los Ingobernables de Japon (Tetsuya Naito & Shingo Takagi)
-ACE Entertainment's Konosuke Takeshita & Hiroshi Tanahashi defeated Los Ingobernables de Japon's Tetsuya Naito & Shingo Takagi in a great match to close the show. With Hiromu Takahashi on commentary, Konosuke Takeshita looked to prove why Hiroshi Tanahashi personally chose him to join ACE Entertainment. He certainly did so tonight in Tokyo, as he kept up with two former IWGP World (and/or Heavyweight) Champions in Tetsuya Naito & Shingo Takagi. Hell, he even got the win for ACE when he hit Shingo Takagi with Absolute Thunder! Afterwards, in an attempt to make Tanahashi proud, he grabbed a microphone and challenged Hiromu Takahashi to a match for the G1 Climax Certificate at King of Pro-Wrestling! Tanahashi looked a bit taken aback, but Hiromu accepted the challenge! Takeshita finished tonight by saying that he was going to beat Hiromu for the honor of ACE Entertainment, GO ACE!

-Sabre-gun's Zack Sabre Jr. & Taichi defeated young lions Oskar Leube & Shoza Mori in a decent match to kick things off tonight in Sendai. The Sabre-gun tensions reached new heights tonight when Zack Sabre Jr. cut off Taichi's music as he was singing it to play his own music! Theme music drama aside, the Sabre-gun duo made easy work of the young lions, with Taichi finishing off Shoza Mori with the Taichi-style Last Ride in just under 10 minutes. Afterwards, Taichi shot Sabre a scathing glare. (68/C+)

-Team Filthy defeated CHAOS's Hirooki Goto, YOSHI-HASHI, & Toru Yano in a decent match. This one was a good bit of comedy before we got into our more intense matches of the evening. Lawlor was still riding the high of beating Jay White at Destruction in Kobe, so he was more loose than usual. That allowed him to really tear apart CHAOS tonight in Sendai, with him finishing off YOSHI-HASHI by making him tap to the Rear Naked Choke in just under 14 minutes. (69/C+)

-The Scourge (WATO, AKUMA, & AKUJIN) defeated Bandido, Mascara Dorada, & Strong Machine J in a great match. In The Scourge's first match together, they certainly made an impression on the NJPW audience. They made a creepy entrance, with smoke filling the Sendai Sun Plaza and the sounds of Slayer's South of Heaven blasting through the loudspeakers. Once they got to the ring, they had full control over their opponents. The demons and WATO completely controlled this one, with WATO getting the win after hitting Strong Machine J with his new finisher, Eternal Damnation (Kneeling Cradle Reverse Piledriver)! (83/B+)

-Bullet Club's Prince Devitt & Jay White defeated KENTA & David Finlay in a good match. Jay White was still feeling good after taking out/challenging Will Ospreay and he was facing two people who have wronged him in the past tonight, so that was extra motivation for him. That's not to say that Finlay & KENTA didn't get much offense because they nearly got the win on a few occasions. In the end though, Finlay fell victim to the Blade Runner to give Bullet Club the win. (80/B)

-After the match, Jay White and Prince Devitt made their way up the ramp until Will Ospreay ran out from the back and started beating the living hell out of White! Devitt got out of harms way as Ospreay beat the daylights out of the Bullet Club leader! Ospreay eventually grabbed a microphone and told White if that he wanted a fight, then he'd get a fight at King of Pro-Wrestling! (81/B)

Los Ingobernables de Japon (Hiromu Takahashi & Shingo Takagi) vs ACE Entertainment (Konosuke Takeshita & Claudio CSRO)
Los Ingobernables de Japon's Hiromu Takahashi & Shingo Takagi defeated ACE Entertainment's Konosuke Takeshita & Claudio CSRO in an amazing match to close the show. With Hiroshi Tanahashi looking on from ringside, ACE & LIJ put on a war to close things out tonight in Sendai. All four men beat the living hell out of each other, with every man having something to prove. Takeshita nearly got the win after hitting Hiromu with Absolute Thunder, but Shingo broke up the pin at the last second. In the end though, Hiromu was able to hit CSRO with the Time Bomb to get the win for LIJ. Afterwards, Tanahashi berated Takeshita & CSRO as Takeshita apologized profusely and promised to make up for it at King of Pro-Wrestling.

NJPW New Japan Road Night Three- October 8th, 2023
Attendance: 2,500 at Sendai Sun Plaza (Sendai, Japan)
Commentary Team: Shinpei Nogami & Milano Collection A.T.

-Team Filthy's Alex Coughlin & Clark Connors defeated young lions Oleg Boltin & Yasahiro Yoshinobu in a dull match to kick things off tonight in Sendai. Two of the biggest young lions teamed up tonight, but their size wasn't enough to outmatch the technical prowess of Team Filthy. In the end, Connors was able to finish off Yoshinobu with the Trophy Kill to get the win for Team Filthy. (54/C-)

-The Scourge's AKUMA & AKUJIN defeated Bandido & Mascara Dorada in a good match. With WATO watching from high atop a balcony here in the Sendai Sun Plaza, his demonic followers took care of Bandido & Dorada with relative ease tonight. Bandido did do his best, but it seemed as if Dorada couldn't keep up with the demons. In the end, AKUMA hit Dorada with the red mist and hit him with the Gates of Hell to get the win. (80/B)

-After the match, AKUMA & AKUJIN continued their beatdown on Bandido (as Dorada was being attended to following his misting) until SHO & YOH ran down to the ring for the save! SHO, YOH, & Bandido fought back the demons until WATO interrupted through the loudspeakers. WATO officially challenged the trio to a six-man tag team match at King of Pro-Wrestling, which was quickly accepted by them. (70/C+)

-Sabre-gun's Zack Sabre Jr., Taichi, & El Desperado defeated CHAOS's Hirooki Goto, YOSHI-HASHI, & Robbie Eagles in a good match. Sabre-gun's newly-found winning ways continued tonight in Sendai with a solid win over the CHAOS B-team. Sabre looked great as always, Taichi is finally looking like he's getting his mojo back, and Despy picked up some solid momentum going into his Super J Cup run. In the end, Despy finished off Eagles with the Pinche Loco after just under 16 minutes of action. (77/B)

-United Empire's Will Ospreay & Aussie Open defeated Bullet Club's Prince Devitt, Karl Anderson, & Doc Gallows in a great match. This was supposed to be a preview of Ospreay's match with Jay White at King of Pro-Wrestling, but Jay White wanted nothing to do with Ospreay after the beatdown he received last night, so Prince Devitt took his spot. Devitt did pretty good, but the same couldn't be said of his "good brothers" as Karl Anderson fell victim to the StormBreaker from Ospreay to give the win to United Empire. (85/B+)

ACE Entertainment (Hiroshi Tanahashi, Konosuke Takeshita, & Claudio CSRO) vs Los Ingobernables de Japon (Hiromu Takahashi, Shingo Takagi, & Tetsuya Naito)

ACE Entertainment's Hiroshi Tanahashi, Konosuke Takeshita, & Claudio CSRO defeated Los Ingobernables de Japon's Hiromu Takahashi, Shingo Takagi, & Tetsuya Naito in a great match to close the show. Takeshita was desperate to make up for his loss to LIJ last night (even though he wasn't the one pinned) and to gain some momentum going into his match with Hiromu at King of Pro-Wrestling, so he was on a whole other level tonight in Sendai. He took Hiromu to task, kept up with Shingo, and even outclassed Naito! In the end, Takeshita was able to finish off Naito with Absolute Thunder to secure the win for ACE. The final night of the New Japan Road Tour came to a close as Takeshita and the rest of ACE Entertainment stood tall with LIJ sulking in the background.

NJPW Super J Cup 2023- October 21st, 2023
Attendance: 2,000 at Korakuen Hall (Tokyo, Japan)
Commentary Team: Shinpei Nogami, Milano Collection A.T., & Jushin Thunder Liger

-Super J Cup Round of 16: YOH defeated Sammy Guevara in a decent match to kick the Super J Cup off tonight in Tokyo. YOH's been looking to get back on track following his run-in with The Scourge, but he first had to get through a tough test against AEW's own Sammy Guevara in the first round of the Super J Cup. Guevara was able to take control for most of this one with some well-timed cheap shots, but once he ran out of ways to cheat, YOH was able to regain control and make him tap out to the Stargazer to get the win. (66/C+)

-Super J Cup Round of 16: WATO defeated Ricky Knight Jr. in a dull match. Knight's been nursing a shoulder injury that he suffered at the latest RevPro show after a brutal match with former NJPW young lion Yota Tsuji. WATO took full advantage of that tonight, working over Knight's shoulder for a majority of this 10-minute contest. In the end though, WATO was able to finish off Knight with Eternal Damnation to advance to the quarterfinals. (62/C)

-Super J Cup Round of 16: Charlie Betts defeated Akira Tozawa in a decent match. With Tozawa making his first appearance on the Japanese pro-wrestling scene since left for America back in 2016 and Betts generating a lot of online hype, this one had a hot crowd. The action in the ring didn't disappoint either, with both men wowing the crowd with some hard-hitting wrestling. It was very back-and-forth, but in the end, someone had to win and that someone was Charlie Betts. Betts finished off Tozawa with his finisher, the Olympic Slam, to get the win. (69/C+)

-Super J Cup Round of 16: Francesco Akira defeated Eita in a decent match. This one had to feel good for Akira, who (alongside Mike Bailey) lost the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships to Eita & El Lindaman back in August. He finally got a modicum of revenge on Eita tonight in the Super J Cup, despite Eita's best efforts to cheat his way to victory. After just over 10 minutes, Akira went to the top rope and hit Eita with the Fireball to get the win. (70/C+)

-Super J Cup Round of 16: Ryu Lee defeated Rey Fenix in a decent match. This one might have only gone for just over 10 minutes, but it was pure insanity for the entire runtime. Both men wowed the crowd with their lucha libre abilities and it seemed like neither man was going to give an inch going into the final stretch. That was until Lee was able to reverse a top-rope Spanish Fly from Fenix by clawing at his mask and hitting Fenix with a superplex! Lee then scooped up Fenix and hit him with the Desnucadora to get the win. (70/C+)

-Super J Cup Round of 16: Taiji Ishimori defeated Mike Bailey in a decent match. Mike Bailey wasn't able to have the same success that his United Empire teammate had earlier tonight, but he still put up a good fight against the premier junior heavyweight of Bullet Club, Taiji Ishimori. Ishimori's been looking to snap out of a recent cold streak as of late and a good performance tonight against Bailey will go a long way in doing so. In the end, Ishimori was able to finish off Bailey with the Bloody Cross to advance to the quarterfinals. (70/C+)

-Super J Cup Round of 16: Bandido defeated Johnny Gargano in a decent match. In the Japanese debut of the American indy wrestling legend Johnny Gargano, he went to war with Bandido. These two tore each other apart for nearly 10 minutes, with neither man giving an inch. The match came to an end when Gargano tried locking Bandido in the Garga-No Escape (Over-the-Shoulder Crossface Chickenwing), but Bandido wiggled out of it and hit Gargano with a superkick! Bandido then hit Gargano with the 21-Plex to get the win. (70/C+)

-Super J Cup Round of 16: SHO defeated El Desperado in a decent match. In the final match of the Round of 16, Despy and SHO beat the living hell out of each other. SHO was looking to prove that he still had it following his encounter with The Scourge, while Despy was looking to prove to Zack Sabre Jr. that Sabre-gun was still going strong. In the end, SHO was able to win out after hitting Despy with the Shock Arrow. (70/C+)

-Super J Cup Quarterfinals: WATO defeated Charlie Betts in a good match. After his brutal encounter with Akira Tozawa earlier, Betts had his shoulder taped up going into this match with WATO. WATO took advantage of this by working over Betts's shoulder for a majority of this 11-minute contest. Unlike Ricky Knight Jr. earlier, Betts was able to fight back and almost made WATO tap out to an Ankle Lock! However, WATO was able to get out of it by rolling out and sending Betts headfirst into the turnbuckle pad! As Betts recovered, he walked right into Eternal Damnation from WATO, which scored the leader of The Scourge the victory. (74/B-)

-Super J Cup Quarterfinals: Francesco Akira defeated YOH in a good match. This one was a true back-and-forth affair, with neither man wanting to give an inch in their quests to become IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion. For everything YOH did, it seemed like Akira had an answer and vice versa. In the end, YOH tried finishing off Akira with the Direct Drive, but stopped when he saw AKUMA & AKUJIN standing in the entrance way! Just as YOH tried going after them, Akira ran up from behind and rolled him for a small package to get the three! Akira celebrated his win as YOH stood in the ring, shell-shocked. (76/B-)

-Super J Cup Quarterfinals: Bandido defeated Ryu Lee in a good match. This battle of friends-turned-enemies has been a long time coming. After their encounter at Wrestling Dontaku where Dralistico cost Bandido, Bandido was looking to finally get some revenge on Ryu Lee. And he certainly got that revenge tonight in Tokyo, as he and Ryu Lee beat the hell out of each other for nearly 11 minutes. In the end, Lee nearly finished off Bandido with the Desnucadora, but Bandido was able to reverse it into a backdrop suplex! Bandido then hit Lee with the 21-Plex and covered him to get the win! (80/B)

-Super J Cup Quarterfinals: SHO defeated Taiji Ishimori in a good match. This battle of Bullet Club's top junior heavyweights was a surprisingly hard-hitting one. Ishimori and SHO battered each other for just over 11 minutes, with neither man giving an inch. Ishimori looked like he won after he hit SHO with the Bloody Cross, but SHO managed to get his foot on the bottom rope at the last second! As Ishimori scooped up SHO to hit him with another Bloody Cross, SHO reversed it and hit Ishimori with the Shock Arrow!!! SHO then made the cover and got the three! Afterwards, SHO offered Ishimori a "Too Sweet," but Ishimori shook his head and walked off. (78/B)

-Super J Cup Semifinals: WATO defeated Bandido in a good match. After his brutal wars with Ryu Lee & Johnny Gargano earlier, Bandido was clearly hobbled going into this one with WATO, who was relatively rested following fights with the injured Ricky Knight Jr. & Charlie Betts. That allowed WATO to take advantage and control most of this 12-minute contest. However, Bandido regained control near the end with a well-timed superkick! Bandido then tried hitting WATO with the 21-Plex, but WATO caught him and hit him with a high-angle German suplex! WATO then scooped up Bandido and hit him with Eternal Damnation to get the win. (80/B)

-Super J Cup Semifinals: SHO defeated Francesco Akira in a good match. SHO was still bruised-up from his match with Taiji Ishimori not even 20 minutes ago, while Akira was a bit more rested following his match with YOH (which ended about an hour ago). That allowed Akira to control most of this 12-minute affair, though SHO had his moments to shine. Things came to a close when Akira went to the top rope to attempt the Fireball, but SHO rolled out of the way at the last second! SHO then scooped up Akira and hit him with the Shock Arrow! SHO then made the cover and got the three! Afterwards, SHO grabbed a microphone and said he didn't care that he's just been through a war with Francesco Akira, he wanted WATO right now in the main event! The crowd popped as Slayer's South of Heaven started playing and WATO made his way down to the ring for the main event... (76/B-)

Super J Cup 2023 Final/IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship Match:

7fO2tMf.jpg VS mpghvLx.jpg
WATO vs SHO
WATO got here by defeating Ricky Knight Jr., Charlie Betts, and Bandido. He's relatively well-rested, mostly thanks to Knight and Betts being banged up going into their contests. Meanwhile, SHO has had to face a grueling gauntlet to get here, having bested El Desperado, Taiji Ishimori, & Francesco Akira in three different wars. Hell, he just finished his match with Akira not even two minutes ago! This match was a great match and the crowd was solidly behind SHO. SHO's exhaustion was evident at the start of this contest, with WATO easily taking advantage by hitting SHO with a Yakuza Kick to kick things off! WATO tried going for the cover, but SHO kicked out at two. WATO picked up SHO and tried hitting him with Eternal Damnation, but SHO reversed it into a tilt-a-whirl headscissors, which sent WATO crashing out of the ring! As WATO recovered on the outside, SHO went to the top rope and hit WATO with a diving splash! SHO then threw WATO into the ringside barricade before throwing him back in the ring. SHO then went to the top rope and hit WATO with a diving elbow drop, which only got a two count on an ensuing pinfall attempt. SHO picked up WATO and tried finishing him off with the Shock Arrow, but WATO wiggled out of it and hit SHO with a German suplex. WATO then threw SHO into the corner and hit him with a rapid-fire barrage of knife edge chops, culminating with a high knee strike! SHO stumbled out of the corner, but walked right into a uranage from WATO. Instead of going for a pin, WATO grabbed SHO by the hair, screaming in face "THIS IS WHAT YOU WANTED! YOU WANTED THIS!" before hitting him with a lifting DDT. WATO then tried hitting SHO with Eternal Damnation, but SHO once again wiggled out of it and hit WATO with a swinging neckbreaker! The match came to an end when SHO picked up WATO and tried hitting him with the Shock Arrow, but suddenly, he dropped WATO! SHO then stumbled a bit before collapsing to the mat in exhaustion! WATO, confused at first, took advantage by picking up SHO and hitting him with Eternal Damnation! WATO then made the cover...

3!

WATO is your new IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion!

WATO has outlasted fifteen of the world's best junior heavyweights to win the 2023 Super J Cup and the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship! That's not to take anything away from SHO though, who might have won this one if the exhaustion from competing in four grueling matches in one night caught up to him at the worst possible time. Speaking of SHO, the young lions and medics tended to him as WATO, AKUMA, and AKUJIN celebrated stoically in the ring. The 2023 Super J Cup came to a close as Korakuen Hall became bathed in a red light and WATO held the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship high in the air.
WINNER: WATO
