 The Road to Finals

Alex Kane was the surprise package in Block A. Having qualified with a dominant performance over Katch and Alexander, he continued his fine run of form as he lost only to Shelley and won all his matches, including a big win over the former JCW Champion, Jordan Oliver.

Speaking of Oliver, he was in shambles as except for a draw with Extreme Champion, Joey Janela he had nothing to show in this tournament. Oh! how the stars have fallen. The question now is how long is left till he loses his tag belt as well?

The block was also forgettable for Amazing Red and Joey Janela. While Red managed a solitary victory over Oliver, Janela could only manage a draw with Oliver and a win against Red. It seemed Janela's dominance was confined to hardcore or deathmatches as he struggled without the use of weapons.

The group topper was undoubtedly, Alex Shelley who was the favorite as well. One-third of the WOW Universal Triangle Champions, Alex Shelley brought his A-game and finished the group with a perfect record.

BLOCK A FINAL STANDINGS

Alex Shelley - 8 points

Alex Kane - 6 points

Joey Janela - 3 points

Amazing Red - 1 point

Jordan Oliver - 1 point

Block B brought contrasting fortunes for the remaining two third of the Time Machine. While KUSHIDA and Sabin drew their match with each other, KUSHIDA performed better in his other matches, winning 2 out of his other three matches, Chris Sabin had only a win against Trey Miguel (which was highly anticipated and the best match of the block) to show as he had another draw against Alex Zayne.

The fortunes of Trey Miguel and Alex Zayne wasn't better as they performed worse than expected. With Blake Christian going for a short tour with NOAH, Zayne has been left alone and he found it hard to focus, only managing a draw against Zayne while Trey's solitary win came against Alex Zayne

The highlight of the block was undoubtedly Robbie Eagles. The Sniper of the Skies came, saw and conquered, emerging with a perfect record in the block. His matches against Sabin, KUSHIDA and Miguel were one of the highest rated in the block.

BLOCK B FINAL STANDINGS

Robbie Eagles - 8 points

KUSHIDA - 5 points

Chris Sabin - 4 points

Trey Miguel - 2 points

Alex Zayne - 1 point

So, the J Cup finals were set.

Block A Finals: Alex Shelley vs Alex Kane

Block B Finals: Robbie Eagles vs KUSHIDA

Live from Hammerstein Ballroom, New York

Attendance: 1000 (SOLD OUT!!!)

With the second event of the year to come from Hammerstein Ballroom live and the first ever Nick Gage Invitational to be held in this historic arena, the night promised to be chocbloc with action.

NGI Block A Finals

image.jpegimage.pngimage.jpeg

Matt Cardona vs Daisuke Sekimoto

The opener of the night was surprisingly match of the night as Cardona and Sekimoto gave us a big-time hoss fight which had everything that you would expect. Cardona was still a villain to GCW faithful and he was consistently getting booed and he also soaked in the cries and starts out the aggressor, at least until Sekimoto reversed a wristlock, forcing Cardona to grab the top rope to force the break. Sekimoto throws the first chop in the corner, but Cardona comes straight back out with a headlock takedown, before a simple boot to the head left Sekimoto on the mat. After getting back to his feet, Sekimoto’s caught with an armbar, only for him to use a forearm to get free ahead of a good ol’ fashioned test of strength.

Sekimoto won with a back body drop on the floor below. Cardona immediately clutched his back. That had to hurt. Crowd revelled in his misery as Sekimoto added some sick chops that turned Cardona's chest red. He threw Cardona back into the ring to go for the pin but Matt fought back with a baseball slide dropkick. He then hit a standing butterfly suplex which earned a near fall.

The action went into overdrive as we got another exchange of chops which Sekimoto won and then he hit a dropkick that knocked Cardona out of the ring. At this point of time, Brian Myers came running in to check on his friend and referee was busy trying to get Myers out of the action but nobody saw

Steph De Lander_alt.jpg

Steph de Lander!!!! coming in from the other side and blasting Sekimoto with one of Cardona's multiple title belts and escaping the ring quietly. With the job done, Cardona does not waste any time as he goes up top and hits the Radio Silence for a win and the crowd absolutely hates it.

Winner: Matt Cardona

Grade: 68

Steph de Lander joins Cardona and Myers as they celebrate Matt's win. Major Empire has just expanded and SDL is here in GCW. Can the Indy God go all the way??

NGI Block B Finals

image.jpegimage.pngBig Damo.jpgimage.pngJeff Hardy_alt5.jpg

Lio Rush vs Big Damo vs Jeff Hardy

Block B finals saw an interesting clash of styles. While Lio and Jeff were known to be extreme aerial athletes, Damo was simply a powerhouse and he got in the early advantage with his power slams and big suplexes but Rush and Jeff came into an understanding and started working together and that's when the tides turned as they managed to get Damo out of the ring with both taking turns to hit suicide dives as Damo bore the brunt.  Lio Rush then tried to get the crowd behind him and offer Jeff Hardy a spot in the Black Legion but it failed miserably as after Jeff teased joining, he slapped the taste out of Lio's mouth.

Then onwards it was dangerous spots after dangerous spots as Hardy and Rush tried to outdo each other. Damo came back and hit the Belfast Blitz to both the opponents. He lifted Rush up for the Coiste Bodhar (Lifting inverted DDT) but Rush got out of it before he kicked Damo's face and it seemed as though he lost a teeth. Hardy followed up with a Swanton Bomb but then Hardy and Rush dueled on who would pin and this gave Damo breathing space as he hit the Ulster Plantation on Rush. Jeff scored a springboard plancha and then hit the Swanton Bomb on Rush to score a pin to the delight of the crowd.

Winner: Jeff Hardy

Grade: 59

GCW World Tag Team Championship

Sunny Dhinsa_alt.jpgGzim Selmani.jpgimage.pngimage.jpegEddie Kingston.jpg

Legion of Pain (c) vs Strong Style Thugz

The issues of Homicide with Black Legion never seems to end and with Eddie Kingston joining his best friend, it was the return of Strong Style Thugz and in several moments of the match, it seemed like a title change would come when Kingston hit the BLKOUT Lariat or when Homicide would hit the Gringo Killa but the champs would always find a way to break up the pin or roll out of the ring. Kingston and Homicide would get frustrated and that would be their downfall as the champs capitalized on miscommunication between them and started hitting their big moves. A Super Collider on the turnbuckles took Kingston out of the ring as he felt awkwardly on the floor and was pretty much knocked out.

That left Homicide to fend off against LOP as they followed up with The Last Chapter to win.

Winner: Legion of Pain (defence #2)

Grade: 48

WOW Universal Triangle Championship

image.jpegChris Sabin.jpgKUSHIDA_alt2.jpgimage.pngimage.jpegimage.jpegimage.jpeg

Time Machine (c) vs Gringo Loco/Los Mazisos

It was Los Mazisos and Gringo Loco (who had come down to GCW from JCW brand) who answered the open challenge of the Time Machine as Alex Shelley looked to get some warm-up before his J Cup finals.

But this was literally a mismatch as Mazisos and Loco never seemed like they would pose a serious threat as they were never on the same page. Missed tags, trying to play to the crowd when not needed and numerous such moments exemplified the match conditions. An easy win for Time Machine as Shelley got the winning pin with a Shellshock over Loco.

Winner: Time Machine (defence #3)

Grade: 57

Tag Team Triple Threat Match

Allie Kat.jpgEffy.jpgimage.pngimage.jpegShane Mercer.jpgimage.pngimage.jpegimage.jpeg

BUSSY vs IronBeast vs Rejects

A triple threat between the teams who have all lost momentum in recent times and this was a chance to kick things up. BUSSY won this one when Effy hit the Fire Thunder Piledriver on Bentley. The former 2 times tag champions look to get back on track with this win.

Winner: BUSSY

Grade: 56

GCW Ultraviolent Championship

AJ Gray.jpgimage.pngimage.jpeg

AJ Gray (c) vs Jimmy Lloyd

People still remembered this two almost tearing the house down 3 years ago in Jimmy Lloyd's D-Generation F and expected the same again as this was the first time that Gray and Lloyd were clashing in a title match.

They started technically, where Gray trapped Lloyd in an armbar and worked their way back up. Gray took down Lloyd with a shoulder tackle, then Lloyd took Gray down with a springboard arm drag and kip-up dropkick. He continued with a hurricanrana and rope strike but couldn’t follow up as Gray grabbed him out of the air with a spinebuster. He started hammering down Lloyd with clubbing blows and chops, then hurled him into the turnbuckle. Lloyd slugged his way free, then ran into a rolling leg lariat from Gray. Lloyd answered back with a pump kick and rolled out the ring to grab some plunder from fans.

Gray winded him with a shot to the guts and slammed him into the mat. He grabbed a chair from a fan and placed it on Lloyd and climbed to the top but Lloyd threw it in his face and slammed him off the top. He followed up with a handspring cutter . Gray stunned Lloyd with an enzuigiri but Lloyd answered back with a kick into a neckbreaker, twisting brainbuster and step-up moonsault. Gray fought out of a piledriver attempt and dropped Lloyd with a Saito. He smashed Lloyd with a diving headbutt for two and got hammered into a tiger driver.

Lloyd tried to muscle up Gray for the Assault Driver but Gray reversed into a duo of lariats and hit the Blue-Eyes White Dragon for the win.

Winner: AJ Gray (defence #2)

Grade: 36

Ultraviolent Championship #1 Contender's Match

image.jpegimage.pngAlex Colon.jpgimage.pngBad Dude Tito.jpgimage.pngimage.jpeg

Atticus Cogar vs Alex Colon vs Bad Dude Tito vs Nick Gage

The feud between Cogar and Gage added an extra dimension to this match and we got a wild brawl between the four. Gage was dominant, carrying the match on his own but it was ultimately Cogar who got the last laugh as despite Gage hitting the Chokebreaker on Colon, he could not pin him as Cogar just deposited Gage outside the ring and then went for the pin himself, ensuring a win and a title shot in the process.

Winner: Atticus Cogar

Grade: 59

NGI Finals

image.jpegimage.pngJeff Hardy_alt5.jpg

Matt Cardona vs Jeff Hardy

The entire Major Empire was backing Cardona on this one with Myers and Steph de Lander coming out in Cardona's corner. This was a first-time-ever match and we got a great match out of it, although Hardy having to wrestle two matches in the same night took some toll in his body and he slowed the pace of the match quite a bit.

Once again it would seem like SDL would help Cardona to win as Matt tricked the ref into looking into his shoulder as SDL sneaked in to hit Jeff with the title belt but Jeff was ready, he ducked the shot, grabbed SDL by her hair and planted the Twist of Hate to send her out of the ring. Myers tried the same but he was sent packing with a dropkick which sent him through the table that was kept outside. He then grabbed Matt and hit the Twist of Hate before hitting the Swanton Bomb to win!!!

Winner: Jeff Hardy (Nick Gage Invitational winner!!!)

Grade: 47

JCW Tag Team Championship: East West Express (c) vs Subculture

Subculture is now firmly rooted in the JCW brand and their welcome gift, a shot at the tag team championships. Like Janela, Oliver needs redemption after a bad J Cup journey and he is sure to take this title defense serious.

Jersey J Cup Block A Finals

Robbie Eagles.jpgimage.pngimage.jpeg

Robbie Eagles vs KUSHIDA

Kushida stalled on the floor before they locked up. Some methodical reversals early on with neither man getting an advantage. Back in the ring, Kushida tied up the left arm and twisted on the wrist. He remained in control as they returned to the ring.and nailed a flip dive off the top turnbuckle onto Eagles on the floor.

Eagles hit a springboard dropkick on the knee and he re-applied the Ron Miller Special leglock, and KUSHIDA writhed in pain, but he eventually reached the ropes. They got up and traded forearms, then kicks. They hit simultaneous spin kicks to the head. Eagles hit a mid-ring Sliced Bread and set up for a Turbo Backpack, but KUSHIDA escaped, and hit a sunset flip powerbomb to the floor

Eagles tied up the left leg and hit a jump-up huricanrana. before attempting the Ron Miller Special again, and this time he was successful.

Winner: Robbie Eagles

Grade: 64

Jersey J Cup Block B Finals

image.jpegimage.pngimage.jpeg

Alex Shelley vs Alex Kane

Alex Kane is having the run of his life in the J Cup and he again had a fantastic match. Kane hit a range of suplexes but he couldn't keep Shelley down for long. Alex also brought in his repertoire of technical wrestling and hit a Sliced Bread but that only fetched a 2 count.

The Mark of Kane was hit but it still Shelley grabbed the ropes to foil the attempt and after a big back and forth, Shelley managed to hit the Shell Shock for the win.

Winner: Alex Shelley

Grade: 62

Tag Team Match

image.jpegimage.jpegimage.pngimage.jpegimage.jpeg

Velocities vs Bang Bros

Velocities were back after their heart-winning performance during the Battle Bowl tournament and they had a car crash of a match with spotfest galore but in the end, Velocities earned a victory with Paris hitting the Shooting Star Press on Matthews.

Winner: Velocities

Grade: 45

After the match, Velocities expressed their interest in fighting for the JCW Tag titles one more time but the champs just shot them down from the backstage.

GCW Extreme Championship

image.jpegimage.pngimage.jpeg

Joey Janela (c) vs Satu Jinn

Janela had been an absolute beast during his Extreme Championship run, defending this for almost a year and bringing up the prestige of the belt. This time he ran into the freight train known as Satu Jinn who held a considerable size advantage over Janela. After getting manhandled for the majority of the match, Janela looked for a slender chance of survival and they got it when he grabbed a pizza cutter and cut open his forehead to finally put the Jinn down.

Winner: Joey Janela (defence #16)

Grade: 58

Tag Team Triple Threat Match

LA Park Jr.jpgHijo de LA PARK_alt.jpgimage.pngTerrell Dudley.jpgTerrence Dudley.jpgimage.pngimage.jpegimage.jpeg

Los Parks vs Hughes Brothers vs The Kirks

Another important win for the Parks as they managed to get a win on their own in the absence of the injured head of the family, LA Park. Hughes Brothers shine bright here and their stocks are definitely on the rise in JCW.

Winner: Los Parks

Grade: 36

JCW Tag Team Championship

image.jpegimage.jpegimage.pngMorgan Webster.jpgMark Andrews_alt6.jpg

East West Express (c) vs Subculture

Oliver put Flash in a hammerlock. Flash escaped with an arm drag. Both traded hammerlocks before tagging in their partners. A couple of wristlock trades later, Subculture had the upper hand and swarmed Wayne with tosses. Andrews put Wayne in an armbar and front chancery but Wayne somehow managed to get out before we got another round of dropkicks and tag team move duels.

Oliver hit Flash with a Poison Rana while Andrews kicked Wayne. Flash hit Oliver with a suicide dive but then Oliver pulled off one of the moves of the year, a rope-thrown Clout Cutter as he just threw Flash off the ropes and then on rebound hit the Clout Cutter earning a win.

Winner: East-West Express (defence #5)

Grade: 37

Jersey J Cup Finals

Robbie Eagles.jpgimage.pngimage.jpeg

Robbie Eagles vs Alex Shelley

The match of the night!!!! Both were coming off intensive matches in their previous round and we expected them to slow down at the start but they hit the match at top speed and we got one of the most intense chop-offs and Shelley got caught in the Ron Miller Special twice but both times he manage to avoid the submission.

Eagles hit a basement dropkick on Shelley’s knee and a series of Yes Kicks before hiting a Shining Wizard on both opponents for a nearfall. Shelley hit a rolling summersault off the apron on the floor but Robbie hit the Turbo Backpack stunner for another nearfall. Shelley hit the WA4 on Robbie before he locked in the Border City Stretch and with Robbie in the middle of the ring, he had no choice but to tap out.

Winner: Alex Shelley (Jersey J-Cup winner!!!)

Grade: 69

GCW_alt2.jpgJCW.jpg

After the rousing success of  NGI and Jersey J-Cup, GCW is riding on that success to bring forward its next big event, The Fight Club where all championships will be defended. To determine the challengers, GCW and JCW held small events throughout USA.

Big Damo complained that he was not pinned and he took it up with the management and started berating Jeff Hardy, bringing up his past drug usage to rile up the crowd and Hardy. All hell broke loose when they engaged in a brawl but Cogar and Gage came to Hardy and Damo's aid and Foley booked a match between Cogar/Hardy and Gage/Damo but it ended in an inconclusive brawl and Cogar retained his Ultraviolent title shot against AJ Gray while Foley signed off on Damo vs Hardy and if Damo won, he would take Hardy's place against Johnny Gamechanger for the GCW World title at The World on GCW.

Major Players returned to winning ways as they racked up three successive wins against Rejects, Los Mazisos and Mega Bastards. They put forth their challenge for the GCW World Tag Team titles and it was accepted.

Velocities returned to GCW ring and this time they were here for long as they mentioned they had signed a long-term contract with GCW. They celebrated it with back-to-back wins against MK Ultra and Kirks. They challenged East West Express for the JCW Tag Team titles and although it was shot off by the champs, management signed off on the match infuriating Oliver and Wayne.

There was a major overhaul within the American Top Team as after the stellar performances of Alex Kane in the J-Cup, he was offered a permanent place in JCW which left a gap in ATT. But it was soon filled when Calvin Tankman joined his tag team partner from MLW, EJ Nduka, and in turn American Top Team. They celebrated this reunion by challenging Time Machine for the WOW Universal Triangle title and Alex Kane was rewarded with a JCW title shot against Myron Reed.

After a below-average couple of months, Vikingo and Bailey decided that they should form an alliance that would keep motivating each other. They also tried to include Jonathan Gresham but he was packing his bags and he said he was happy to leave this hellhole which has created a black spot on his career and the faster he is out of here, the faster he can return his career to glory days (He had signed an exclusive written agreement with Impact)

Legion of Pain (c) vs Major Players w/ Steph de Lander

Major Players were on an upward momentum in the last few weeks with Cardona managing to go all the way to NGI final and Myers and Cardona picking up a good couple of tag wins, of course being helped by their lackey Steph de Lander.

But it did not work against the dominating champions i.e the Legion of Pain. Even though Cardona is of a similar size to Dhinsa and Selmani, they lacked the champion's edge. Finally, Selmani ended this with the Last Chapter on Myers.

Winner: Legion of Pain (defence #3)

Grade: 50

GCW Ultraviolent Title

AJ Gray.jpgimage.pngimage.jpeg

AJ Gray (c) vs Atticus Cogar

A walk and brawl on the outside of the ring, the match seemed slow and sluggish. But it soon picked up as weapons came into play and excitement got in with crowd egging on both men.

Cogar used a longhorn skull to dig into Gray’s skull, smashed it apart and then further used it to dig into the skull. Gray Oklahoma Slammed Cogar through a barbed wire web and got completely tangled. Both threw everything at each other.

The finish was Gray going for his Burning Lariat but Cogar managed to duck and then threw a chair on the face of Gray which caught him unawares. He then smashed the chair three more times before digging neon green skewers on Gray's forehead and then hit the Headlock Driver to become the new champion.

Winner: Atticus Cogar (new champion!!!)

Grade: 54

After grabbing his belt, Atticus Cogar proceeded to basically rip Nick Gage to shreds verbally as he mentioned how he will shut Gage down forever and ensure that he spend the rest of his career on a hospital bed. 2024 will be the year of Atticus Cogar!!!!

WOW Universal Triangle Championship

Time Machine (c) vs American Top Team

These two teams faced before in the semi-finals of the WOW Universal Triangle Championship tournament at Series of Survivals but Subculture were also present in that match. So, we witnessed a pretty competitive match where ATT dominated for long parts of the match due to their physical advantage but Time Machine finally triumphed due to their experience as they manage to tire out the behemoths before Shelley hit the Shellshock on Nduka for the win.

Winner: Time Machine (defence #4)

Grade: 53

Shelley then hyped up his upcoming match against Myron Reed. He mentioned he is the J Cup winner, he is the WOW Universal Triangle champion and the reigning IMPACT World Tag Team Champion. Myron Reed can't even lick his boots when it comes to accomplishments and he is looking forward to add the JCW Championship to his belt collection.

JCW Tag Team Title

East West Express (c) vs Subculture

Paris worked over Oliver's left arm and then tagged in Jude who hit a standing moonsault. They traded chops which Oliver won out and then put Jude in a hammerlock but Oliver escaped with an arm drag. Oliver hit the Blue Thunder Bomb for a nearfall and then both traded hammerlocks before tagging in their partners. Paris swarmed Wayne with tosses before putting in an armbar but Wayne somehow managed to get out before we got another round of dropkicks and tag team move duels.

Oliver hit Paris with a Poison Rana which took him out of the ring. Oliver followed him outside along with Wayne but Jude hit suicide dive which brought everybody down. Finally it was Wayne who hit the winning punch as he hit the Clout Cutter on Jude.

Winner: East-West Express (defence #6)

Grade: 43

JCW Championship

image.jpegimage.pngAlex Kane.jpg

Myron Reed (c) vs Alex Kane

It was a grappling vs aerial offense but Kane surprised early on as he hit a dive through the ropes before hitting a trio of german suplexes. He started hitting Reed with combination of sulexes and strikes and then went for a splash on apron but Reed rolled out and it started his comeback.

Reed hits an enziguri and then lights up Kane's chest with chops before trying to hit a clothesline but Kane did not move an inch. A second attempt at the same also didn't yield any result before Reed frustratingly hits a superkick which knocks back Kane. He tries to go for his SkyWalker but Kane catches him and plants him with a powerslam.

He then goes up top again for a splash but this time Reed catches him a cutter out of nowhere. Reed goes for a second SkyWalker attempt and this time he is successful.

Winner: Myron Reed (defence #2)

Grade: 47

Joey Janela (c) vs Mike Bailey

Bailey went for the handshake before the match but Janela flipped him off. Bailey seemed really sad and shaken by this. He then hit a brainbuster moments later, so he clearly got over it. The match spilled to the floor early. After awhile, Bailey missed a kick on Janela and ended up hitting the ring post. This allowed Janela to take control of the match.

After a sustained period of offense for Janela, Bailey began to make a comeback. He hit a series of kicks and strikes to regain the offensive advantage. Janela fought back and got a two count after a Death Valley driver. Bailey then got his knees up on a flying elbow drop attempt and eventually regained control with a triangle moonsault to the floor. They then ended up brawling by the merchandise stand. Bailey then gave Janela a standing moonsault double knees through the merch table which collapsed immediately. Bailey kicked out from a package piledriver and went nuts with a flurry of kicks. Janela would get a two count off a super kick moments later. He then hit a super brainbuster and a Moonsualt Foot Stomp to finally end this.

Winner: Joey Janela (defence #18)

Grade: 53

Big Damo vs Jeff Hardy

This was not a match, it was a wild brawl with Damo and Hardy fighting all over the arena. Hardy hit a swanton bomb from the merchandise stand while Damo slammed Hardy multiple times through tables. The match broke down and referee lost control. The ending came when GCW World Champion Johnny Gamechanger rushed in from the back and slammed both Hardy and Damo with his title belt thus sending the match to disqualification.

Winner: No Result due to interference

Johnny was happy and appreciating his handiwork. He even claimed that he is better than both of them and so he has ensured that a prestigious title like GCW World Championship doesn't have to be defended against druggies and big loafs and so he is taking time off next month.

Just then Mick Foley came down the ring in his signature flannel coat which popped the roof of the building. He confronts Johnny and say nobody gets to have their own way here and especially the world champion who people pay to see him wrestle. So, at World on GCW, it will be Big Damo vs Jeff Hardy vs Johnny Gamechanger for the GCW World Title.

Now, have a nice day!!!!
