The World Heavyweight Championship is on the line on Monday Night Raw! 

Last week on Raw, Matt Riddle asked Raw Managing Director Eric Bischoff for a title opportunity this week against whomever the World Heavyweight Champion would be after Saturday's Money in the Bank. We have learned that Eric Bischoff has approved Riddle's request, and following Seth "Freakin" Rollins' defeat of Brock Lesnar, the main event for this week's Raw is set: Matt Riddle will face Seth "Freakin" Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship. Who will walk out of Raw champion? 

Saturday night at Money in the Bank, The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes continued his story as he became Mr. Money in the Bank. Monday on Raw, Cody will kick off Raw with a message about what's next. Last week on Raw, the WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Shayna Baszler & Ronda Rousey issued an open challenge for this week. Who will step up? The Women's Tag Titles are on the line! Also, do not miss Rhea Ripley in action and "The Man" Becky Lynch addresses failing to win Money in the Bank.

WWE Raw opens with still photos from Saturday night in London, England for Money in the Bank. The photos focus on Rhea Ripley’s successful title defense, KO & Sami defeating Imperium, GUNTHER’s defeat of Drew McIntyre & Matt Riddle’s save from the 3 on 3 brawl, the World Title match and both the Men’s and Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Matches. The last image we see is Cody Rhodes becoming Mr. Money in the Bank. 
 

 

 

JULY WEEK 1, 2023

CFG BANK ARENA

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND

 

 

 

We go into the arena where the American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes steps out onto the stage holding the Money in the Bank briefcase. Cody is triumphant and all smiles as he gets into the ring, wincing a little with his injured arm and grabs a mic.

Cody asks “what does everyone want to talk about” before explaining how happy he is to have won the Money in the Bank match Saturday night in London because this gives him a chance to finish the story once more. Rhodes says that he knows that it’s trite and played out for the whole Money in the Bank briefcase winner to feign cashing in. That’s not his style.

Cody Rhodes knows that tonight there will be a World Heavyweight Championship match between Matt Riddle and Seth “Freakin” Rollins. And Cody wishes both of them luck tonight, but both men can rest assured, the American Nightmare is not coming for them here tonight. That honor belongs to one man….Brock Lesnar.

Cody says that before he begins to focus on becoming a champion, he must first settle the score with The Beast Incarnate. So Brock Lesnar, come out here and let's fight….
 

 

 

Instead of Brock Lesnar, Cody gets The Judgment Day who comes out to the entrance area. Damien Rhea & Dominik flank Finn Balor who has the microphone and says that Saturday Night Cody Rhodes did win the briefcase, but he did so by sneaking up behind Finn and pushing Balor off the ladder.

Finn Balor should be the one holding that case and should be the one with opportunity and Cody Rhodes stole it from him. He just weasled up that ladder and shoved Balor off like a coward.

Cody says that is how the match goes and instead of crying like a little baby, maybe Finn should just accept that he got out maneuvered.  Rhea grabs the mic and says then maybe Cody should prove that he’s a man here tonight and face Finn Balor in a match.

Cody smiles and says that all they need to do is ask. Cody accepts the challenge - Finn Balor vs Cody Rhodes could very well happen here tonight. But the challenge for a fight with Lesnar remains unanswered.

When Raw returns, Vic Joseph & Corey Graves tell us that Eric Bischoff has confirmed the challenge that we just saw. Finn Balor of the Judgment Day will indeed face The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes later on here tonight. 

 

They then take us back to last week where Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler issued an open challenge to defend the Women’s Tag Team Titles here tonight. We are told that Eric Bischoff has a “epic team” for this match, the champs are in the ring so let’s find out who the team is…

 

 

Lita’s music plays as the WWE Hall of Famer comes out and then The Man Becky Lynch’s music plays. The former Women’s Tag Team Champions are reuniting for a shot at their titles right now. 

 

 

BECKY LYNCH AND LITA VS RONDA ROUSEY AND SHAYNA BASZLER

Match #1: WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles - Becky Lynch & Lita vs Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler 

 

* Wild brawl between four tough women to start the match before Lita is blasted from behind by Ronda right in her injured neck

*Lita tries to hot tag Becky, but is denied several times before Becky decks Ronda right in the face while she is on the apron and a brawl breaks out again

*Eventually Becky is tagged in and cleans house and scores some near falls before Lita is tagged back in to finish off the champs. Ronda goes to the floor and grabs a chair and hands it to Shayna and the ref is arguing with the champs to get the weapons out of their hands 

 

* While this is going on Zoey Stark & Piper Niven run down, drag Becky to the floor and attack her. Lita is distracted by the commotion which allows Ronda Rousey (who has dropped the chair) to spin her around and do a jumping knee right to Lita’s face for the 3 count. 

 

RESULT: RONDA ROUSEY & SHAYNA BASZLER WIN BY PINFALL AND RETAIN THE WWE WOMEN’S TAG TEAM TITLES

 

 

After the match, Trish Stratus comes out to the entrance way and smiles as her women did their job tonight. Rousey & Shayna shrug and leave having defended their crowns. When Lita & Becky glare at the entrance, Trish bows and mouths “Thank You Trish”.

 

 

Highlights from last Saturday’s Money in the Bank air, specifically focusing on Carlito in the Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match.  We then go to Byron Saxton with Carlito at the Gorilla Position. He says that on Saturday, Carlito was so close to becoming Mr. Money in the Bank, but he will not wallow in defeat. Instead, this new run remains an opportunity that he cannot pass up. Carlito will be champion in WWE once more, perhaps sooner than we think. And that…would be cool.

Carlito vs Miz, a rematch from several weeks ago,  is next after this time out. 

COMMERCIAL BREAK

 

Raw returns to a hype video showing Jinder Mahal back in India. The modern day Mahjarja walks through the streets of Mumbai, while receiving adulation. Jinder tells us that he will soon return to Raw and when he does, he will be bringing devastating company with him. 

 

CARLITO VS THE MIZ

*Carlito slaps Miz to start the match and is a house of fire to start, but Miz is able to conceal a low blow just as the show goes to commercial

*When the show comes back Miz is in control and spends most of his time cheating whenever Carlito starts a comeback. Eventually, Miz’s feet are caught on the ropes and Carlito’s comeback begins

*Miz goes for the SCF, but Carlito reverses it into the Backstabber and gets the pinfall just like their previous encounter

RESULT: CARLITO PINS THE MIZ

 

 

After the match, Bronson Reed rushes in and attacks Carlito while he is celebrating his victory. The Miz, at first seems surprised, but soon is directing traffic. Miz holds Carlito down while Bronson climbs the ropes and nails the Tsunami Splash! Miz raises Reed’s hand in mock victory. Has a union been formed here tonight?  What does Bronson Reed want with Carlito?


 

The camera catches Cody Rhodes heading down to the ring. The American Nightmare is in action against Finn Balor, live…next.

COMMERCIAL BREAK

 

 

Raw returns with video taken during the break. We see Carlito being taken to the trainers room by WWE Medical while holding his ribs. He goes past The Judgment Day who are headed up the hallway toward Gorilla. They stop when Rhea is approached by….

 

 

Candace LeRae who says that Saturday in London, Rhea Ripley knows that she was barely able to get by Indi Hartwell. And had Indi had some more experience, things would’ve been different. But instead, now Rhea must deal with someone who has more….someone like Candace LeRae. Candace challenges Rhea Ripley for a match for the Women’s World Title.

Rhea and Dom laugh and Rhea responds by pie-facing Candace to the floor before telling her to go tend to her “daughter”, because she’s not able to hang here on Mami Night Raw. The Judgment Day then walks away with Candace looking furious.

 

CODY RHODES VS FINN BALOR

*Epic match between two of the best wrestlers in the world. They trade near falls before Balor works on Cody’s arm

 

*This portion of the match sees Finn use old school submission moves on Cody to hurt his arm and Cody plays the role perfectly, really selling the injured arm

*When Cody stages his comeback, Damian trips Cody and it allows Finn a chance to score some near falls again with Cody kicking out each time. Eventually, Cody is able to drop Priest and then start his comeback and fight into the match

*After more back and forth near falls, the finish sees Balor miss the Coup de Gras because Cody rolled out of the way and Balor is surprised as Cody kips up and nails the Cross-Rhodes. 

 

 

Immediately Dom and Damien rush into the ring and attack Cody and the ref rings the bell

RESULT: CODY RHODES WINS BY DISQUALIFICATION 

 

 

 

After the match, Cody tries to fight off The Judgment Day who are continuing their attack. Eventually, the numbers game is too much and Rhodes is beat down until…..
 

 

Brock Lesnar is here! The Beast comes down to the ring and glares at The Judgment Day who, smartly, backs away and leaves ringside. Rhea Ripley doesn’t want to go and is being almost pulled back by her crew while Brock locks eyes with her, wondering if Mami will actually attack him.  Eventually, Brock circle’s his prey while WWE officials try to rush down toward the ring.

Brock grabs Cody’s arm and orders everyone back and the officials step away from the ring. Brock grabs a mic and holds Cody's hair back as he tells Cody “tonight is your lucky night…I am not going to finish you just yet.  So you want me one more time? Fine, Cody…let it be at SummerSlam…..but if you want me, you put that briefcase on the line. And you come at your very best, because when I take your ass to Suplex City and hold that contract once again, I want no excuses.”

Brock lets go of Cody and leaves the ring having kept his word to not hurt Cody here tonight. Brock has apparently accepted the challenge of Cody Rhodes, but only if Cody puts his Money in the Bank contract on the line at SummerSlam!

 

 

 

In the back we see a busted mirror in a locker room and the room has been torn apart. In the wreckage, Nikki Cross is sitting Indian Style with a look of contentment, before a crazed look returns. She gets up and leaves the room, heading towards the ring. Nikki Cross is in action, live…Next. 

COMMERCIAL BREAK

 

 

Raw returns and we see that during the break, Eric Bischoff has come down to try to talk to Cody as he is being helped up. Cody is looking murderous while Bischoff is screaming at Rhodes to calm down. Cody just brushes him and the rest of WWE Medical aside while going up the aisle to the back on his own two feet.

 

NIKKI CROSS VS MAXINE DUPRI W/ALPHA ACADEMY

*Poor Maxine, she knows not what she does by trying to compete in this match as Nikki Cross laughs and then attacks wildly 

 

*Maxine tries to fight off Cross, but soon she is thrown into a corner where Nikki just strikes and slaps in brutal succession, completely manic

*When the ref orders Cross out of the Corner, Maxine tries a clothesline, but that just angers Nikki who grabs her by the hair and then plants Maxine into the mat with a brutal DDT

*1…2…3.

RESULT: NIKKI CROSS WINS BY PINFALL

 

 

After the match, Nikki grabs a microphone and in a manic voice, says that she is tired of being overlooked and tired of trying to pretend to be normal. The only way to live in this world is with no rules and only those who are willing to go beyond the line will survive. Candace LeRae wants Rhea Ripley and the Women’s World Title……sounds like fun. Nikki wants to play too………….or Nikki will burn the world down!

 

 

In the back, Matt Riddle is warming up. His shot at the World Heavyweight Title is almost near.

*Standard squash match meant to highlight Viking Raiders as a violent and strong team

*During one of the few times that Los Lotharios has a chance, Angel flirts with Valhalla who is utterly repulsed

*War Raiders just maul their opponents some more before hitting Fallout for the pinfall

The World Heavyweight Champion Seth “Freakin” Rollins is seen putting on a feather boa jacket. When Raw returns, it’s main event time. The Heavyweight Championship of the world will be on the line…..next on Monday Night Raw. 

 

COMMERCIAL BREAK

 

 

MATT RIDDLE VS SETH “FREAKIN” ROLLINS

*This match is a fast paced encounter to start that is truly worthy of a World Title match. Both men do high spots before the champion uses his experience to take over 

*But Riddle has heart and shows lots of it because no matter what strikes Rollins is able to hit Riddle with, the challenger won’t stay down

*Riddle gains the advantage when Rollins goes for a Frog Splash in the ring, but Riddle rolls to the floor and Seth crashes hard into the mat. Riddle then goes back into the ring and drags Rollins out ringside and the two trade blows before a Savate Kick to the side of Rollins’ head drops the champ right onto the announce table 

*Riddle goes up top and leaps off with a front Somersault through Rollins and through the table. Both men are down and the ref urges both men to get up, officials even come out to help out because the ref refuses to throw a title match out

*Riddle is up first and rolls Rollins into the ring, Seth immediately does a Superkick as soon as Riddle comes into the ring and covers…1….2….Riddle kicks out

*Seth goes for a Curbstomp, but he is too hurt to charge and Riddle does a  Back Elbow right into the Temple of the champ and nails the Bro-Derek! Is this the moment for Matt Riddle?!?

*Cover….1……2……Seth Rollins barely kicks out

*Riddle goes to try to do his finisher again, but Seth spins Riddle around and tries to lock in a Boston Crab on the Challenger. But the ref is bumped when Rollins is kicked by Riddle into the ref. Seth clutches at his injured side and stands up….

*Right into a running knee from the challenger. Riddle prepares for a second Bro-Derek when Imperium rushes down to the ring and attacks Riddle from behind. 

 

 

Before long GUNTHER is in the ring and Powerbombs Riddle twice before Imperium leaves the ring. Rollins, unaware, wakes up and puts his arm over Riddle’s chest while the ref comes to and counts 1…2…3.

RESULT: SETH ‘FREAKIN’ ROLLINS WINS BY PINFALL TO RETAIN THE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

 

Seth “Freakin” Rollins retains the championship, but make no mistake Matt Riddle was just screwed by Imperium. Riddle helping out McIntyre, Zayn & Owens on Saturday has backfired in a big way.

Rollins sees the replay on the Titantron and now understands what has happened. He offers an apology to Matt Riddle and his hand. Angry, Riddle almost doesn’t shake it before he ultimately does. The Original Bro then leaves the ring and goes searching for Imperium. 

It may not have been the way that he wanted to win this match, but Seth “Freakin” Rollins remains the Heavyweight Champion of the World!!
 

Seth celebrates by having the crowd serenade him and raises the title high. Rollins turns to go into the center of the ring……SLINGBALADE!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Judgment Day’s Finn Balor has come out of nowhere and delivered a Sling Blade onto Seth Rollins. Balor immediately leaps up to the top rope and flies off and delivers a Coup de Gras!

With Seth Rollins down, Finn Balor grabs the World Heavyweight Championship in his hands and looks at it longingly before throwing it at Rollins side.

Has Finn Balor just declared his intention to be the next World Heavyweight Champion?

Money in the Bank is in the rear-view mirror and the biggest party of the summer looms in five weeks.  

Money in the Bank saw Roman Reigns use his influence to stack the deck against Jimmy Uso and help Solo Sikoa win their match.  This Friday there will be a Bloodline Reunification Ceremony.  Will Jimmy fall in line or will he continue his feud with the Tribal Chief?

Charlotte Flair made a surprise return when she was named as the replacement in the Women's Money in the Bank match and won the briefcase.  That match also saw Bayley cost her friend Iyo Sky a chance to win. What does this mean for the future of Damage CTRL?

“Hello, New York.  It’s been awhile, but as you can see, I am right back where I deserve to be.  I have always said that I don’t wait for opportunity because I am opportunity.  And now I have my choice.  Rhea….Asuka…it really is a difficult decision because I don’t like either of them very much but I also respect the hell out of them for what they do in this ring.

 

So what am I to do?  Now I could stand here and tell you my decision of who and where and when but I’m afraid I’m going to have to keep all of you in the dark with the two champions.  But both of them need to listen to me right now.  I am the fourteen time world champion and when I cash in this pretty little case, I will become a fifteen time champion.  So ladies, sleep well, because the Queen is coming for you.”

*Good Brothers control the beginning and are working like a machine but a B-Fab distraction allows her team to take over.

 

*Adonis and Dolla use well timed and occasional illegal double teams to wear down Gallows and he succumbs to a running avalanche by Dolla followed by a springboard elbow by Adonis.

“Thanks Kayla.  When I came back after so many years I wondered if I would feel this again.  It’s so rare to win any championship in the WWE you can’t take them for granted.  I had to learn that lesson the hard way but I’m going to make the most out of this one.  It’s time we put some pride back in this belt, and if anyone thinks they want to try the old man, let’s go.”

 

 

TEAGAN NOX VS ASUKA ©

 

*Nox knows her way around the ring but once Asuka stalks her into a corner, the champion unleashes her fury on her opponent.

 

*Asuka shows a vicious streak with unrelenting strikes and kicks, leaving Nox barely able to defend herself.

 

*Asuka nails a series of snap suplexes before putting Nox in the Asuka Lock for a quick submission.

 

RESULT:  ASUKA RETAINS THE WWE WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP BY SUBMISSION

 

 

 

Following Asuka’s dominant win, she looks to the aisle and bows.  The camera pans over as the crowd takes notice of the man walking down the aisle with a devilish smile.

 

 

WWE Hall of Famer Jake the Snake Roberts enters the ring and stands next to the WWE Women’s Champion after collecting a mic.

 

“Well they always say never say never in the WWE, right?  Some of you may be wondering why I’m here.  The answer is the woman standing beside me.  Oh she knows every hold and she knows how to become a champion, that much is self evident.  But you see, she lost herself along the path.  She changed, she softened.  She wanted to dance for you, to entertain you, and that got her exactly nowhere.  Yet I knew deep down inside this buzzsaw was a kernel of darkness waiting to be unleashed again.

 

Now there’s no more dancing, there’s no more happy children, there is only vengeance.  You see I taught her that as great as this title is, it pales in comparison to hurting people.  It is insignificant in comparison to the fear in someone’s eyes.  And that brings us to Charlotte Flair.  The golden girl with the Money in the Bank contract.  Charlotte, I remember you as a tiny little girl and you have truly become one of the best who have ever stepped in this ring.  It’s no secret that you want this title, that you need this title.  You’ll do anything to get it and therein lies the problem.  Asuka will do anything to keep it.  She may blind you with mist.  She may set you on fire.  She may rake your pretty face with barbed wire.

 

Charlotte, as a favor to your father I am going to grant you this warning.  Cash in on someone else because if you come for the Empress of Darkness, trust me..you won’t like what you find.”

We see the Brawling Brutes backstage and they’re trashing everything in sight, all of them looking angry.  Wade Barrett chimes in, saying someone is going to pay tonight and he’s glad it isn’t him.

 

 

 

We see the door to the Bloodline’s private lounge and it opens slowly.  Paul Heyman peeks out, and looks around with a very evil grin.  Michael Cole hypes the Bloodline reunification tonight and he worries about what the Wiseman has in store for the Usos tonight.

 

 

THE LWO VS PRETTY DEADLY

 

*A fast paced match which highlights both teams strengths.

 

*Pretty Deadly focuses on working Escobar over until Wilde gets the hot tag and switches the momentum.

 

*Things are going great until……

 

 

The Brawling Brutes hit the ring and hit the first people in their path being Escobar and Wilde.  The referee calls for the bell.

 

RESULT:  THE LWO WINS BY DISQUALIFICATION

 

 

The Brutes aren’t done but Pretty Deadly limits their targets by running, allowing them to solely focus on Wilde and Escobar.  Sheamus delivers a Brogue Kick, almost kicking Escobar’s head off his shoulders, while Butch and Holland pummel Wilde until he’s face down.  Cole declares that everyone should be put on notice that these three don’t look like they’re finished.

 

 

 

Kayla Braxton is standing by in Gorilla with LA Knight.

 

“LA Knight, in a moment you’ll be in the ring with Cedric Alexander who is hoping to gain a contract here on Smackdown.  What’re your thoughts?”

 

“Thoughts?  Well Kayla lemme talk to you.  My thoughts are I should be standing here Mr. Money in the Bank.  Yeah! I should be the first in line for a title shot.  Yeah!  But it has to start somewhere, right?  So Cedric Alexander, sorry to tell you this pal, but you aren’t getting a contract tonight, you’re getting an ass whipping.  YEAH!”

 

 

LA KNIGHT VS CEDRIC ALEXANDER

 

*Alexander starts fast, jumping Knight before the bell.

 

*Knight flips the momentum and has the crowd behind him as he makes his comeback, ending the match with BFT.

 

RESULT:  LA KNIGHT WINS BY PINFALL

 

 

 

Cole and Barrett tell us that Bianca Belair has been discharged from her local medical center and is home resting but there is no word on how severe her lingering injuries are.  Her attacker, Lacey Evans, is scheduled to be in action next week.

 

 

CAMERON GRIMES VS AUSTIN THEORY

 

*Theory has a huge chip on his shoulder following his championship loss to Edge and takes it out on Grimes in the first half of the match.

 

*Grimes feeds off the crowd and stages a comeback scoring two different roll ups, nearly flash pinning Theory.

 

*Grimes goes to the top but Theory catches him with a punch to the gut, then puts Grimes on his shoulders and hits A-Town Down for the win.

 

RESULT:  AUSTIN THEORY WINS BY PINFALL

 

 

 

“Ladies and gentlemen, the time has come for the Bloodline Reunification Ceremony.  Wade, this is a travesty.  Roman Reigns bullied Jey Uso during that match….

 

 

 

 

….Come on Cole, the Tribal Chief merely ensured there would be a clear winner and tonight he collects the spoils.”

 

Cole shakes his head.  “The ceremony is next!

 

 

 

 

“Ladies and Gentlemen….my name, is Paul Heyman.  And tonight you will be witness to a very special ceremony.  Tonight we reunite the Bloodline, under the guidance and leadership of our benevolent Tribal Chief.  The Reignsing, defending, Undisputed WWE Universal Champion….Roman…Reigns!”

 

Heyman hands the mic to the champion.

“New York City……acknowledge me!”  After the crowd reacts he looks to the aisle.

“Jimmy, Jey, I know you’re here.  Come on out here and let’s make this family whole.”

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Usos come down to the ring, and Jimmy is clearly angry.

 

Roman looks them both over.  “Jimmy, Jey, are you ready to be received back into this bloodline with full love and understanding that I, your Tribal Chief, lead this family and that you serve this family until you are dismissed?”

 

Jey looks unsure and Jimmy is shaking his head.

 

“I thought so.  If you don’t want to listen to me, maybe you’ll listen….to him.”

 

 

WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi comes down to the ring and stands in front of Jimmy and Jey.

 

“My sons, you know I am beyond proud of all you’ve done in this ring.  There is a time to fight and there is a time to accept.  Roman is our Tribal Chief.  The elders put that lei around his neck.  And I know you are disappointed about what happened at Money in the Bank, but now this is about honor to the family.  This is not about Joshua and Jonathan.  This is not about Joseph.  This is about Rodney and Matt and Eddie.  Those who came before and those who come after.”

 

Jey crosses over and gives his father a hug and stands beside him.  Jimmy is still looking resolved and not budging.

 

Roman nods softly.  “I knew you would feel this way, so I have someone else to help you see the light.”

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The crowd gets to their feet at the return of Naomi and Jimmy looks stunned.  This was clearly a surprise to him.  She enters the ring and goes to her husband.  Taking his hand she stands directly in front of him, calling his attention off Roman.

 

“I know this is hard for you, I know it, but this is what the family, our family needs.  Together we are stronger than anything or anyone but we gotta be unified.”

 

Jimmy is torn, but his wife won’t let him look away.

 

“I’m here for you.  It’s gonna be okay.”

 

Jimmy slowly nods as Jey and the rest of the family look on.  He steps around her and approaches Roman.  Jimmy hesitates, his pride holding him up, before he drops to a knee as the crowd begins to boo.

 

Roman looks down at his cousin,before squatting down in front of him, and places a hand on his shoulder.  Jimmy looks up, clearly emotional as Roman pulls him into a hug.  The family relaxes, except Solo of course, as Roman and Jimmy stand. 

 

Cole tells us the Bloodline is reunited and that is terrible news for everyone in the WWE.

Last week on Raw the World Heavyweight Championship was on the line in an epic encounter between Matt Riddle and Seth "Freakin" Rollins. In the end, following interference from Imperium, Seth Rollins won the night and the match. But it was a sneak attack by The Judgment Day's Finn Balor that was the lasting image of last week's broadcast. Why did Balor attack the champion? Finn Balor will be on hand this week to address this issue. 

Last week, Mr. Money in the Bank Cody Rhodes challenged Brock Lesnar to one more fight at SummerSlam. Lesnar responded by coming to the ring after a Judgment Day attack on Rhodes' to accept the match, but only if the Money in the Bank contract was on the line. Will the American Nightmare accept? Also, after screwing over Becky Lynch and Lita in their attempt to become WWE Women's Tag Team Champions, Trish Stratus' says that she will call Lita to the ring this week. What will be the next chapter in this issue between two Hall of Famer's? Also scheduled in action will be Matt Riddle against Imperium's Giovanni Vinci. Following Imperium cost him  the Heavyweight Championship of the World, can Riddle keep his cool?

Welcome to Monday Night Raw! There are no recaps as we go live to the backstage area where The Judgment Day is walking to Gorilla while their music begins to play. Rhea Ripley leads the way with Dom Dom by her side, Damien Priest in the middle and Finn Balor on the rear.

Balor is expected to kick off things and expla……Balor suddenly collapses to the ground and the camera pans back to see

 

The World Heavyweight Champion Seth “Freakin Rollins” with a chair. He wallops Balor two more times before The Judgment Day even realizes that Finn is hurt. When Damien and Dom charge, Seth nails both of them with the chair. That is when the World Women’s Champion, Rhea Ripley, steps in front of Finn and Seth looks like he is going to nail Mami, before thinking better of it as officials rush in to break things up.
 

Raw Managing Director runs in and looks at the camera and tells the director to go to a commercial. We’ll be right back.
 

COMMERCIAL BREAK

 

Raw returns and we see Eric Bischoff storm into the locker room of Seth Rollins who is sitting there with no remorse on his face. The Managing Director berates the World Champion for attacking someone as the show begins. Bischoff says that he understands that Rollins is pissed, but Seth Rollins will not be allowed to start fights in the damned hallway!

Rollins says that if Balor wants a fight, Rollins will fight him. Tonight. Eric says not after what Rollins just did. And he will take into consideration, when these two can battle, but it won’t be tonight. 

But since Seth Rollins is so hell bent on fighting someone tonight, fine…he can fight Damien Priest. Rollins says to put the title on the line and Bischoff reluctantly agrees.

Tonight in our featured match: Damien Priest of The Judgment Day gets a World Title match against a very pissed off Seth “Freakin” Rollins.

 

 

 

We go to Vic Joseph and Corey Graves who welcome us to an already chaotic Monday Night Raw. And now the format is thrown up in the air because Seth “Freakin” Rollins attacked Finn Balor. They tell us that a stand-by match is being put together and then put over that later tonight, The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes will be on hand to respond to Brock Lesnar’s challenge.  And in just under an hour, at the 9pm hour, Trish Stratus will be here to confront her former “bestie”, WWE Hall of Famer Lita. But the stand-by match is ready, let's go to the ring. 

 

CANDICE LERAE VS SONYA DEVILLE

 

*Pretty even match that is largely about proving that Candice can compete at a high level

*Sonya uses some heel moves, but and gets a few near falls and shots in, but this ultimately is about highlighting LeRae

*The finish sees Candice eventually use the La Quebrada (Springboard Moonsault) for the pinfall 

 

RESULT: CANDICE LERAE BY PINFALL  

 

 

Following her victory, Candice is celebrating when Nikki Cross comes onto the Titantron. Nikki says that Candice doesn’t get to use her pretty, pretty looks to demand Women’s Title matches. Nikki wants to join that party and she challenges LeRae to a fight next week with the #1 contender’s spot on the line.

Candice says she is not afraid of a fight and she will beat Nikki Cross’ ass next week on Raw.


 

In the back we see The Miz and Bronson Reed walking down the hallway. When Raw returns, Reed is in action live…next.

 Raw returns and we are told that it is official….next week on Raw Candice LeRae will face Nikki Cross for the #1 Contender’s spot for the Women’s World Title, but Eric Bischoff is making this match No Disqualification. 

 

BRONSON REED w/THE MIZ VS RICOCHET

 

*Competitive match, more competitive than what we’ve seen from Reed’s encounters

*Reed is put in jeopardy at one point by the fast paced offense from Ricochet before grabbing Ricochet in mid air and turning it into a Belly to Belly

*From there it is all Reed and soon, he nails The Tsunami and Miz is already getting up into the ring as the ref counts three

 

RESULT:  BRONSON REED WINS BY PINFALL

 

 

 

After the match, The Miz says that his burgeoning Hollywood opportunities means that he needs to protect his body more than ever before. So Miz started thinking about what is next, for the most Must See man in WWE. And then it hit him…Miz’s legacy is secured. The Miz is a first ballot Hall of Fame WWE Superstar. He’s main evented Wrestlemania, won multiple championships, is a world renowned star. He’s done it all. So how to make an iconic career that more must see?

Take someone else to the top. And that is why The Miz was with Bronson Reed and it’s why he will be with Reed from here on out. Oh, you’ll still see The Miz in action from time to time, don’t worry….but it will be only when the money is right. For now, Bronson Reed will be unleashed on the stars of Monday Night Raw and that starts with that washed up punk, Carlito.

Bronson Reed is coming for Carlito and he will make this “comeback” short lived. And when that happens, it will not only be cool….Carlito’s destruction will be….

Drew McIntyre is in the back with Byron Saxton. He says that last week, Matt Riddle was screwed over by Imperium, but Drew McIntyre still has a score to settle with them as well.

Riddle has a valid issue with GUNTHER and he does have a match with Giovanni Vinci later tonight, but that doesn’t mean that McIntyre will get in the back of the line. Drew announces that he has asked Raw Managing Director Eric Bischoff for an Intercontinental Title rematch at SummerSlam. And when he gets that match, GUNTHER won’t get lucky again. Honky Tonk Man’s record will stay intact, because GUNTHER won’t make it out of Detroit with that title. Drew then goes through the curtain, Drew McIntyre is in action…next on Raw.

Raw returns and we see a pissed off Cody Rhodes arriving to the arena. Later tonight, The American Nightmare will address Brock Lesnar’s SummerSlam challenge.

We go back to Trish Stratus turning on Becky Lynch in the spring, their encounter in Saudi Arabia, the formation of Trish’s crew who screwed Becky Lynch at Money in the Bank and screwed Lynch and Lita last week. The video then cuts to Trish walking down the aisle flanked by Zoey Stark and Piper Niven. When Raw comes back, Trish Stratus promises to confront Lita…live next.

Raw returns to a graphic promising Carlito returns to Raw next week.

 

 

We see a video of “during the break” as Drew McIntyre comes through Gorilla having been victorious. He is met by Matt Riddle who tells him in no uncertain terms that Drew McIntyre had his shot with GUNTHER in London. And he didn’t get the job done. It’s time for Drew to step aside, it’s Riddle’s time and he will prove that tonight. McIntyre doesn’t like that and a shoving match takes place but is quickly broken up.

 

 

Trish Stratus is in the ring and she goes over the long history with Lita. She brings up their rivalry and the historic nature of being the first Women’s Championship match to main event this show. They went through ups and downs while paving the road that these women today walk down and take for granted. And along that road, a friendship was formed. A best friendship.

And then Trish did something that she knows hurt Lita. And to be honest, it hurt Trish too. Trish did not want to attack her friend, she really didn’t. But it was a necessary evil to stop a greater threat to the Women’s division in Becky Lynch. Trish understands that Lita was mad and ok, she messed with Trish’s plans at Money in the Bank, but it’s time to put that behind them. Trish then calls Lita out to the ring.
 

Lita looks like she does not believe a word from Trish as she comes down to the ring and Lita wants to get into Trish’s face, but Piper stands in the way and Lita is forced to back up. Trish says that Becky Lynch is not here tonight which means Lita has no protection if Trish unleashes her WMD on Lita, so everyone calm down.

Trish goes hard on the personal side of their friendship, even going so far as to call Lita “Amy”. Trish brings up how close they have been outside the ring, brings up that Lita is the Godmother of Trish’s son and daughter. She says that when Vince McMahon called to put Lita in the Hall of Fame, Trish cried at the thought of her friend going in. And then to be the one to induct her? It was everything to Trish. Trish shows a backstage photo of that night of both women in tears hugging.

Lita starts tearing up as Trish goes through moment after moment of what they’ve been through together. The good, the bad, the history. She finally looks at Lita and says “I love you, Amy.” which brings Lita to tears. Trish says she understands why Lita did what she did, but now is the time to repair the damage. Trish offers for Lita and her to be friends again.

Lita is overcome but says that she loves Trish Stratus as well….the Trish that she knows. But lately, that’s not who has been on tv every week. Lita says that Trish is blinded by her hate of Becky Lynch and she doesn’t know if she can support this Trish Stratus. Lita says that she would love to be besties again…but Trish has to let this go.

Trish looks at Lita and says “this will end when Becky Lynch is gone from this place”. And then tells Lita that she will give her the same chance that Trish gave Becky….one week. One week to think about who they used to be and can be again. One week to remember who Lita’s REAL friends are. Next week, Lita better make the right decision or Trish will have to do something to her that even Trish Stratus will regret.

Trish and her crew leave a shocked Lita in the ring. Lita has a decision to make in one week’s time…either choose a 20 year + friendship or become the enemy of Trish Stratus. 

 

 

In the back, Matt Riddle is warming up. When Raw returns, Riddle faces Giovann Vinci…next.

 

COMMERCIAL BREAK

MATT RIDDLE VS GIOVANNI VINCI

 

*This is a fast paced match early and Vinci surprisingly looks better than he has recently

*Riddle controls early until Ludwig Kaiser comes down and trips Riddle and then Vinci takes over and we go through a commercial break on a near fall

*Vinci goes throws Riddle to the ground and starts laying in stiff shots before Riddle is able to kick Vinci in the shin and begin a comeback

*Before long, Riddle nails a jumping High Knee and then goes for the Bro-Derek but as soon as he hits it, Kaiser rushes into the ring and attacks followed by GUNTHER

 

RESULT: MATT RIDDLE WINS BY DISQUALIFICATION
 

 

 

After the match, GUNTHER makes his way down while Imperium begins attacking Riddle. GUNTHER starts chopping away at Riddle until



Drew McIntyre runs out to the ring and he has his sword with him. McIntyre tries to swing at Kaiser’s head but he ducks and Imperium quickly leaves the ring area with the damage done. Drew tries to help Riddle up and when he does, Riddle shoves McIntyre right on his ass in the ring before leaving the ring.

Riddle goes up the aisle yelling at Drew “Bro, I don’t need your help” while Drew is incensed.

 

 

We get a promo video of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler. When Raw returns, they will defend their titles against the upstart group of Katana Chance and Kayden Carter…next on Raw. 

 

COMMERCIAL BREAK

 

In the back, The Judgment Day is seen hyping up Damian Priest. But Finn Balor looks less than enthused. Balor tells Priest that he knows what his job is tonight. Damian responds by glaring while Dom and Rhea look uncomfortable. Still to come, the World Heavyweight Title is up after this next match.

 

KATANA CHANCE AND KAYDEN CARTER VS RONDA ROUSEY AND SHAYNA BASZLER ©

 

*This match goes for a bit and shows that Chance and Carter can compete and have a future on Raw

*At one point, Shayna is hit by a Doomsday Device and a near fall scares the crap out of Ronda

*Once Rousey is tagged in, it’s all over. She cleans house and before long, Ronda locks in the armbar on Katana Chance for a submission victory

 

RESULT: RONDA ROUSEY & SHAYNA BASZLER RETAIN BY SUBMISSION

 

 

After the match, Rousey and Shayna say that since clearly Raw’s women offer no real competition, they won’t be around here for awhile. Maybe its time to check out NXT or SmackDown and that’s Raw’s loss. 

 

 

 

We see Seth “Freakin” Rollins warming up. The main event is next: Damian Priest vs Seth Rollins for the Heavyweight Championship of the World. Don’t go anywhere.

DAMIAN PRIEST VS SETH “FREAKIN” ROLLINS ©

 

*The match begins with Damian Priest sending every member of The Judgment Day to the back as he wants to do this on his own

*Rollins and Priest have a terrific back and forth match where both men trade near falls and stiff shots early 

*After Damian kicks out of a Pedigree, he floors the champ with a big boot and then starts laying into Rollins with heavy offense in what is really the best Priest has looked in a long time

*Everytime Rollins begins a comeback, Priest is there to block it. Once both men collide mid air with Cross Body Blocks, this opens the door for Finn Balor to come down

 

*Rollins and Priest again trade near falls before Priest is set up for a Curb-Stomp but explodes with a Lariat as Seth charges. Some more near falls and a commercial break follows, but soon it looks like Priest could score the upset

*Finish sees Finn Balor run down and get onto the apron and grab Seth while Damian charges. Seth moves and Damian crashes into Finn. Seth and Damian trade blows before Damian nails the Reckoning on Seth and covers. But Finn is up on the apron trying to get in and the ref is distracted

 

*When Damian sees this, he gets angry and asks Finn what is going on and Balor responds by shoving his friend who turns around right into a SUPERKICK. Seth nails the Curbstomp next and covers….1….2….3.

RESULT:  SETH “FREAKIN” ROLLINS RETAINS THE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP BY PINFALL

 

 

 

After the match, Seth Rollins goes up the aisle in celebration while Finn is in the ring and forced to watch. Balor and Seth clearly are not done with each other. Damian Priest gets up and grabs Finn and asks him what the hell was that?

Finn plays innocent but Priest is pissed. Eventually Dom and Rhea have to get between the two. Are The Judgment Day coming apart? And will Finn Balor and Seth “Freakin” Rollins collide soon? 

 

 

 

Cody Rhodes is seen walking down the hallway. Raw closes with The American Nightmare’s answer to Brock Lesnar…live…next. 

 

FINAL COMMERCIAL BREAK

 

 

Raw returns with another promo for Jinder Mahal. Like last week, we see him in India finding his roots. Jinder promises to bring pain and destruction back to Raw with him, very soon. 

 

The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes comes out with the Money in the Bank briefcase to a chorus of cheers as he closes Monday Night Raw. Cody steps into the ring and grabs a mic and addresses the audience:

“So what does everybody wanna talk about? Look, I’m not gonna keep anyone in suspense for long, that’s not my style. So Brock Lesnar wants to accept my challenge for SummerSlam, but only if I put this briefcase and the contract inside, on the line?

Before I give my answer, I want to tell a very quick story. It was less than two months ago, on the Raw after Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia. Eric Bischoff’s first night as Managing Director. I asked Eric Bischoff for a fight with Brock and yeah, I had a broken arm but so what? And Eric said no. I was dejected, I walked away seemingly a broken man….but then I got home and I slept and I woke up the next day and it hit me.

Brock Lesnar likes to call himself “The Beast Incarnate”, how very marketable. If there’s one this that this company does better than anyone, it is marketing it’s wrestlers as larger than life. So The Beast sounds marketable, its just not all that accurate. Brock Lesnar isn’t a beast..he’s just a bitch. A stupid, pathetic excuse for a man who is afraid of anyone that doesn’t fear him.

I do not fear Brock Lesnar!

And so I formed a plan. And part of that plan was getting cleared, no I was not 100% but I was good enough, to return at Money in the Bank. And all of it to capture this contract. Not only to “finish the story”, but to lure Brock in. I knew that Brock Lesnar would never agree to fight me one last time without a carrot to lure him in.

Brock, I knew that the second I won this contract, you wouldn’t be able to run from me anymore. So….yes, Brock. You’ve got your deal at SummerSlam!

(As soon as Cody says that a cage starts to lower)

But it’s the “Biggest Party of the Summer” isn’t it? It’s “The Final Encounter”, more marketing. What a selling point. So let's up the ante…a match of this magnitude needs to have it all. It needs high stakes, it needs blood and it needs violence.

If Brock Lesnar wants this contract and to end my career he damned well better be willing to walk into hell to do it. 

 I CHALLENGE BROCK LESNAR TO HELL IN A CELL

(The cage lowers completely while the crowd chants Holy S*it)

Brock Lesnar, at SummerSlam you get it all. You get me, you get this contract, you get my damned career. All you have to do is survive inside this demonic structure to do it.

And Brock, you better be prepared to kill me….. because at SummerSlam, that’s exactly what I am willing to do to you.”


What an announcement! The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes has accepted the challenge of Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam to put the Money in the Bank Contract on the line in the Final Encounter, but he just upped the ante. Brock Lesnar and Cody Rhodes could very well collide, but they will have to walk straight into the depths of hell to do it.

Will we see Brock Lesnar vs Cody Rhodes inside Hell in a Cell at SummerSlam? Brock Lesnar, it’s your move.

A month away from Summerslam the Smackdown is heating up!

On a special edition of the Grayson Waller Effect, the Aussie loudmouth will welcome the Undisputed Tag Team Champions Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.  Knowing KO's temper everyone is wondering how long it will take Waller to push his buttons.

Last week also saw the return of WWE Hall of Famer Jake the Snake Roberts who has now aligned himself with WWE Women's Champion Asuka.  He gave a warning to Charlotte Flair but we'll see what the Queen thinks this week.

Cole is cut off by the Almighty Bobby Lashley who comes down to the ring looking very dapper in a suit.

 

“Raleigh, the Almighty is in the house!  And I’m here for a reason. You see, I’ve spent months feeling like something is missing.  I buy nice clothes, I bought a new car, I got a big house but something has been eating at me and I know what it is.

 

In four weeks, the biggest party of the Summer is happening in Detroit and the more I think about it, the more I know there is only one man who I want to stand across this ring from.

 

Roman Reigns, you may not be here because you’re sitting on a beach or having a spa day but I’m calling…you….out and I’m going to get what I’ve been missing.  The WWE Universal Championship!”

 

He flips the mic and hits his pose as his music plays again.

 

 

BAYLEY VS ZELINA VEGA

 

*This is an open contest which allows both women to get in offense but Bayley always seem to regain the momentum thanks to dirty tricks.

 

*Zelina goes for broke by going to the top but Bayley hits the ropes and crotches her on the top turnbuckle.  Zelina crumples to the mat and Bayley pounces, quickly hitting the Rose Plant for the win.

 

RESULT:  BAYLEY WINS BY PINFALL

 

 

 

Bayley barely has time to get her hand raised before she sees Iyo Sky running down the aisle and making a beeline for her.  Bayley ditches from the ring and heads into the crowd with Iyo hot on her heels.

 

 

 

Backstage, Kayla Braxton sees WWE Official Adam Pearce and runs to catch up to him.

 

“Mr. Pearce, we saw Bobby Lashley’s challenge to face Roman Reigns at Summerslam. Is it official?”

 

“Kayla, I’d love to make it official right here and now but, I have to run it up the chain first.  As soon as I know, you’ll know.”

 

 

RIDGE HOLLAND VS SANTOS ESCOBAR

 

*Holland’s power comes into play early and often but Escobar is resilient.

 

*When Holland accidentally rams himself shoulder-first into the post between the turnbuckles, Escobar goes on the attack with a flurry of offense to keep his opponent on his heels.

 

*Holland mounts a comeback but is stunned with a spinning heel kick followed by a school boy rollup for the win.

 

RESULT:  SANTOS ESCOBAR WINS BY PINFALL

 

 

 

Sheamus and Butch hit the ring and put a quick beating on Escobar but the crowd pops when Mysterio and Wilde hit the ring for the save and after a few moments the LWO gets the upper hand and sends the Brutes into retreat.

 

 

MUSTAPHA ALI VS AJ STYLES

 

*An even match that makes Ali look impressive.  Even Barrett wonders if he’ll be the newest Smackdown hire.

 

*AJ sells his ass off and eventually makes a comeback following several close calls.

 

*When AJ hits the Phenomenal Forearm it’s all over.

 

RESULT:  AJ STYLES WINS BY PINFALL

 

 

AJ is celebrating his win when Karrion Kross and Scarlett appear on the Tron.

 

“AJ, you know you disappoint me.  I had given you credit, if for nothing else, being smart.  But your actions at Money in the Bank proved me wrong.  You cost me that match and for that, I’m going to make you suffer like you’ve never suffered before.”

 

Scarlett steps in front of Kross.  “Your future is clear.”

 

She holds up a Hanged Man tarot card as Kross laughs maniacally.

 

 

When we return from the commercial, Grayson Waller is in the ring for the Grayson Waller Effect and he announces his guests, the Undisputed WWE World Tag Team Champions, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.

 

 

KO and Zayn come down to the ring and both clearly don’t trust Waller.

 

“Gentlemen, welcome to the Grayson Waller Effect and I am happy to be able to finally give you two the rub, as we say, to make those titles mean anything.”

 

Owens wants to blow a gasket but Zayn calms him down.

 

“Grayson, I don’t think Kevin and I need any kind of rub, I mean we won these titles at WrestleMania….”

Zayn nods.  “That’s right, the main event of WrestleMania and frankly, if I’m being honest, I think we’ve done a pretty good job of making them mean something since then.”

 

Waller takes it in stride.  “Well, agree to disagree.  But since I have you hear, I have to ask, who’s your next challengers?”

 

Owens is quickly growing tired of this.  “Why?  You know someone who wants punched in the face?  Cause I’ll totally do it right now.”

 

“No no, I’m not here to fight you.  I just wanted to ask the question on everyone’s mind.”

 

Owens stands. “I think what’s on everyone’s mind is when is KO gonna kick Grayson’s ass?!

 

Waller and Zayn stand, with the former backing away and Zayn trying to calm down his partner, blinding them both from seeing who’s coming from behind.

 

 

Pretty Deadly slides in from behind, pick up the tag titles, and attack the champs with cheap shots to the back of the head.  Waller of course does nothing to warn his guests or get involved.  After a few moments, Owens and Zayn are down and Pretty Deadly hold the titles up as the crowd boos.

 

 

 

A replay is shown of the Grayson Waller Effect from a few minutes ago that saw Pretty Deadly attack Owens and Zayn.  The video begins to waver before….

 

 

 

LACEY EVANS VS TAMINA

 

*Nobody meaner than Tamina and she lives up to the reputation, not backing down one bit.  Lacey has to regroup on the outside and only gains the advantage following an eye rake.

 

*Lacey grinds Tamina down with a series of stiff, if underhanded, strikes like kidney shots and rabbit punches. 

 

*Tamina misses a big boot, which allows Lacey to kick her knee out from behind and slap on the Cobra Clutch.  Tamina passes out in her grip.

 

RESULT:  LACEY EVANS WINS BY STOPPAGE

 

 

 

 

 

 

Backstage, Kevin Owens is angrily pacing as Sami Zayn attempts to calm him.

 

“Kevin, please slow down you’re going to have a heart attack if you keep this up.”

 

“The only ones getting attacked are those two leotard wearing punks!  They want to fight, let’s fight.  Right now, inside the ring, out in the street, on the roof.  You think Pearce will give us a roof fight?”

 

Zayns rubs his face.  “I doubt it, but how about we just take a breath and then kick their ass at Summerslam?”

 

Owens nods.  “Okay, I like that.  But I still want to punch someone in their stupid face.”

 

They both turn and look to the side and the camera follows.

 

 

Truth looks to his left, then his right.  

 

“What’s that Little Jimmy?  I’m coming.”  

 

He runs off as Owens and Zayn exchange confused looks.

 

 

ASHANTE ADONIS VS EDGE ©

 

*The younger challenger gives Edge a run for his money and the veteran quickly finds he needs to ground Adonis and slow things down.  

 

*It’s a back and forth match and Adonis goes for the kill when he climbs to the second rope but when he jumps off, Edge hits an impromptu spear and scores the win.

 

RESULT:  EDGE RETAINS THE UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP BY PINFALL

 

 

 

Top Dolla quickly (for him) gets into the ring and blasts Edge from behind.  Hit Row are putting the boots to the United States Champion when the crowd pops.

 

 

The Street Profits hit the ring and quickly send Hit Row to the outside.  While Ford checks on Edge, Dawkins is still ready to fight but Hit Row decides retreat is the better part of valor.

 

 

 

Adam Pearce is pacing backstage when Paul Heyman enters the scene.

 

“Mr. Pearce, I have been authorized by the Tribal Chief, the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, the Head of the Table, Roman Reigns to inform you that next week, the world will get an answer concerning the challenge posed by Bobby Lashley for Summerslam.”

 

Heyman walks off as Pearce shakes his head.

Last week on Raw, The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes closed the show accepting the challenge of Brock Lesnar for SummerSlam, but Rhodes' upped the ante. In an emotional speech, Cody said that he would put the Money in the Bank Contract on the line against The Beast Incarnate at SummerSlam, if Lesnar would agree to fight inside the confines of Hell in a Cell. Raw's Managing Director Eric Bischoff has confirmed that Lesnar will be on hand to answer Rhodes' challenge. Will "the Final Encounter" indeed be signed as a one-way ticket to Hell? Find out Raw. 

Last week on Raw, Eric Bischoff said that he would decide the future of Seth "Freakin" Rollins and Finn Balor at a later date. We have been told that Monday is that date. Will the Managing Director give Balor a World Heavyweight Championship match? Speaking of The Judgment Day, it was Balor who seemingly inadvertently cost Damien Priest a shot at the title last week on Raw. Is The Judgment Day beginning to collapse? WWE Raw opens with a recap of last week where we saw the World Heavyweight Champion Seth “Freakin” Rollins demand a match with Finn Balor only to end up having to defend against Damian Priest. The recap shows Finn Balor “accidentally” cost Priest the match.
 

We then go to a video shown “earlier today” where The Judgment Day is arriving in the building. Damian Priest is walking ahead of everyone while Balor tries to talk to him. Dom and Rhea look anxious and it is clear that tensions are high with The Judgment Day. Welcome to Monday Night Raw. 

 

JULY WEEK 3, 2023

STATE FARM ARENA

ATLANTA, GEORGIA

 

 

 

Welcome to Monday Night Raw! The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes has come down to the ring and soaks in the crowd as he is home in Atlanta. In the front row is Cody’s family and they all are smiling while Cody is in the ring.

Cody says that he is home in HOTlanta and man, it feels good to be home. We are less than two weeks away from SummerSlam and last week, Cody Rhodes got everybody talking when he said he would put the Money in the Bank briefcase on the line against Lesnar but only if the match is inside Hell in a Cell.

Well, Lesnar will be here tonight and later on, he is going to give Cody an answer. And you can bet your ass that Brock Lesnar will give that answer to Cody Rhodes’ face, because The American Nightmare will come to this ring and face Lesnar like a man. But for now….how about someone from the back come down to the ring and lets have a match because this is Atlanta, and Cody Rhodes is home and he wants to kick some ass!

 

Baron Corbin, a free agent, comes from the backstage area and says that he accepts. Cody says lets go and to get a ref down to the ring.

Stick around, we’re going to try to get this impromptu match signed during this time out. 

 

COMMERCIAL BREAK

 

BARON CORBIN VS CODY RHODES

*Cody starts as a house of fire and scores some near falls before Corbin does a cheap blow and takes over

*Cody does the old school Dusty Rhodes style babyface sell to give Baron some heat and the two have a few false comebacks before Cody eventually begins his comeback

*When Baron goes for End of Days, Cody reverses it into a DDT and then the Bionic Elbow, Disaster Kick and eventually the Cross-Rhodes for the pinfall

 

RESULT: CODY RHODES PINS BARON CORBIN 

 

 

After the match, Cody celebrates and then goes to the floor where he hugs his mom and kisses his wife. While Cody is celebrating, Raw Managing Director Eric Bischoff comes out to the stage and he is flanked by security.

 

Eric tells Cody that he heard what Rhodes said a few minutes ago about confronting Lesnar here tonight and that is just not going to happen. Eric says that if he were to allow Cody to come back out here and confront Brock Lesnar, there is a good chance that one or both of them will end up hurt. And Eric cannot allow that to happen.

So, Cody had his big moment tonight in front of his hometown, his family and his friends. But now is the time to leave. And these men are going to escort Cody out of the building before Lesnar arrives.

The security comes down and surrounds Cody who is angry but Eric says he is trying to do what is best for Cody. Eventually his family go to leave with him, but Cody tells them to enjoy the show and waves to the fans before allowing himself to be led from the arena. 

 

 

In the back, we see Trish Stratus, Zoey Stark & Piper Niven on their way to the ring. Trish will demand Lita respond to her ultimatum…next on Raw.
 

 

 

Raw returns and we see video “during the break” where security does indeed escort Cody Rhodes from the building and to an awaiting car that drives off into the night. 

 

 

Trish Stratus comes out with her crew and she says that it is time for Lita to make up her mind. Will Lita honor a 24 year long relationship? Or will she throw it all away for someone who cannot even lace her boots? Lita, come on down….



Lita comes out with no music as she walks down to the ring. When Trish tries to go over their history one more time, Lita holds her hand up and silences Trish.

Lita says that she knows what Trish said last week and the truth is that Lita does love Trish like a sister. But if they are to get past this, Trish needs to be the friend that Lita has relied on for decades now. She needs to start competing with honor again and not be the angry person that she’s been these last few months.

Trish promises that she will and puts out her arms for a hug….

Becky Lynch comes out and asks Lita if she’s really this gullible? It was Trish Stratus that looked at her “bestie” and attacked her in a parking lot a few months ago. And then came out here and proudly professed it. Trish Stratus is a vile, conniving snake and Lita is going to trust her? Lita is a damned fool.

Trish tries to say that Becky doesn’t understand their friendship, but Lita interrupts Trish and tells Becky that she gets why Becky is pissed. She understands why Becky is distrustful, and Lita may be making a mistake. But this is her mistake to make. Lita knows who Trish Stratus is inside her heart, she knows what she can be and she will be the one to support her friend and fight for her to be the best version of herself.

Lita then goes and hugs Trish much to the disgust of everyone in the arena. Lita then tells Trish that she got her a present, a gift to remind Trish of who she is……

Earlier tonight, Lita went to Eric Bischoff and asked for a favor. A favor that was granted. Tonight, Trish Stratus will be added to the Women’s World Title #1 contender’s match between Nikki Cross & Candice LeRae. It will now be a triple threat match…the condition? Lita had to choose Trish over Becky…now Trish must choose Lita over Piper Niven & Zoey Stark. What’s it going to be?

Trish is unsure at first and looks around the arena for the fans approval and it is clear that they want her to embrace who she used to be. Trish eventually looks at Lita and hugs her friend once again, sealing the deal. Trish and Lita leave the ring, arm-in-arm and it’s official…tonight Nikki Cross vs Candice LeRae vs Trish Stratus. The winner faces Rhea Ripley at SummerSlam for the Women’s World Championship!

COMMERCIAL BREAK

 

 

Raw returns to footage taken during the break where Zoey Stark and Piper Niven attack Becky Lynch from behind. Becky is able to dispatch of Piper and soon Zoey and Becky brawl up the aisle into Gorilla. Backstage, they are separated and Bischoff runs in and says that if Becky Lynch and Zoey Stark want to fight so damned much…they can do it at SummerSlam!

 

MATT RIDDLE VS GIOVANNI VINCI

*In a rematch from last week, this match is mostly about highlighting Matt Riddle, though Vinci gets some high spots and near falls

*But soon, Riddle is nailing the Bro-Derek for the pinfall

 

RESULT: MATT RIDDLE WINS BY PINFALL

 

 

After the match and as Riddle is celebrating, the other members of Imperium attack Riddle who is able to fight them off for a bit before the numbers game catches up.
 

When it looks like Riddle will be taken out, Drew McIntyre again rushes to the ring to help Riddle. Together they clean house and Imperium backs away. Riddle turns around right into a CLAYMORE KICK.

Drew looks down at Riddle, grabs a mic and says “that’s your receipt for last week”. Drew McIntyre then looks up at GUNTHER and challenges him for a rematch for the Intercontinental Title at SummerSlam. Will Eric Bischoff make this match official?

 

In the back, we see Carlito walking down to the ring. The man that is always cool will be in action, next.

Raw returns and Matt Riddle storms into the office of Eric Bischoff who looks like he is having the worst night ever. Riddle is angrier than we’ve ever seen and he says that McIntyre gets to attack Riddle and then demand a match at SummerSlam? That’s bullshit!

Eric tells him to calm down and says that he has not made up his mind about the challenge. But since Riddle and McIntyre can’t stop fighting, then next week…they’re gonna fight. Next week it will be Matt Riddle against Drew McIntyre. 

 

 

 

We get a match graphic that says still to come, Finn Balor & Damian Priest vs The Alpha Academy

 

CARLITO VS HUMBERTO

*This match is a glorified squash as Carlito is showing a pissed-off side of him after what has been happening with Bronson Reed

*Humberto tries to score offense, but Carlito is really toying with him and soon ends things with a Backstabber for the pinfall

 

RESULT:  CARLITO WINS BY PINFALL

 

 

After the match, Carlito grabs a mic and says that since The Miz and Bronson Reed aren’t here tonight and since they are targeting him for some pathetic reason, that’s cool. Let’s fight at SummerSlam. Carlito is challenging Bronson Reed at the biggest party of the Summer.

 

 

In the back, Brock Lesnar arrives in the building. When Raw returns, Brock Lesnar will address Cody Rhodes’ SummmerSlam challenge…live…next.

Raw returns and we are told that the office of Eric Bischoff has confirmed that at SummerSlam, Finn Balor will challenge Seth “Freakin” Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship. Still to come, Balor & Damian Priest will put their anger aside as they team together to face Alpha Academy. 

 

The Beast Incarnate comes out and he laughs as he says he got exactly what he wanted. Brock says that everybody has wondered why Brock Lesnar has targeted Cody Rhodes. Why would Brock set him up the night after Wrestlemania? Why, why why?

Because Cody Rhodes is a quitter. Cody had the opportunity of a lifetime when he backdoored his way into the big time all because of who his old man was and who his brother was. And because he didn’t get to be the main event, because he wasn’t given the big role around here, he bitched and moaned. But he didn’t storm into the back and tell Vince McMahon to kiss his ass, he didn’t be a MAN and DEMAND more opportunities around here. No, instead he quit.

He quit and he went out into the small, minor leagues and let himself be a big fish in a small pond. He told you all that it was so that he could start some revolution, Cody Rhodes didn’t start a damned thing. This place is still the big time, it’s still the big leagues, it’s still what everybody knows and so Cody made Vince McMahon fly to his house…right here in Atlanta actually…and beg Cody to come back.
Begged. Cody. Rhodes? And in that moment, Brock says he knew that Cody had to be put down when the time was right. And the time became right when Cody Rhodes thought that he could hang with the likes of the Roman Reigns’ of this world…and the likes of the Beast Brock Lesnar. And who put that idea in his head? Why it was the same person that told him to quit in the first place…..

Brock leaves the ring and goes right to 

 

Brandi Rhodes, the wife of Cody Rhodes and the mother of his daughter. Brock says that person was Brandi Rhodes. Cody Rhodes is weak because he is whipped by his old lady. 

It was Brandi that talked Cody into quitting. And it was Brandi that talked Cody into thinking that he could hang with the sharks here on Raw. And now it is Brandi that will be his undoing.

Brock gets into Brandi’s face and asks her what will it be like in just a few short weeks when her husband can’t walk out of Hell? How will he be a father to Liberty when he’s a vegetable? Because that is what will happen…Brock Lesnar accepts Cody Rhodes’ challenge and he’s going to maim Cody inside Hell in a Cell at SummerSlam. And when Brock makes Cody a vegetable, it will be Brandi who will have to look at Cody’s mother and tell her it was all her fault.

Brock looks at Cody’s mother as he says this and Cody’s mom responds by slapping Brock. Brock laughs and then looks enraged and goes to grab her, but Brandi stands in front of her mother in law. Brock responds by grabbing Brandi by the back of her hair and dragging Brandi over the barricade.

Brock lifts Brandi up and rolls her into the ring before getting into the ring and bouncing around stalking Cody’s wife. Brandi looks in absolute fear as Brock finally decides to strike and lifts Brandi up into an F5……



Suddenly, Cody Rhodes is seen sprinting down from the crowd just in the knick of time!!

Brock sees this and waits for Cody to get into the ring and then launches Brandi right into Rhodes’ arms before bailing. Cody seethes with fury as Lesnar backs up the aisle, laughing the entire time. While Cody consoles Brandi, Brock says “I’ll see you at SummerSlam, bitch.”

COMMERCIAL BREAK

 

 

Raw returns and we see what happened “during the break” where Cody Rhodes escorts his family out of the building while Eric Bischoff runs after him apologizing for Lesnar.  Cody says that Brock Lesnar is a dead man before getting into the car once again, but with his family it tow.

Brock Lesnar threatened Cody Rhodes’ mother and wife and accepted the challenge to walk into Hell to face Rhodes at SummerSlam. But has Lesnar made the biggest mistake of his career this time? Find out at SummerSlam.

 

FINN BALOR AND DAMIAN PRIEST VS ALPHA ACADEMY

 

*This a pretty strong back and forth tag team encounter

*Judgment Day work together fairly well, but there clearly appears to be tension and Damian stays in the ring longer than Finn wants

*Eventually Alpha Academy are able to stage a comeback and we get a competitive match through a commercial break

*The finish sees Finn disperse of Otis while Damian hits the Reckoning on Chad. Finn tags himself in and goes to the top and nails Coup De Gras for the pinfall

 

RESULT: THE JUDGMENT DAY WIN BY PINFALL

 

After the match, The Judgment Day all start attacking Alpha Academy who are trying to fight for their life. Even Maxine Dupri is slammed by Mami and this continues until….
 

The World Heavyweight Champion comes down with a chair. He gets into the ring just as Dom charges and Seth nails him in the gut with the chair. When Balor fronts up with Rollins, Damian is off to the side and soon Balor is Superkicked by Rollins.

Rollins turns around *CRACK*!!!

Damian Priest nails Seth Rollins with the title belt and then nails Reckoning!!! Balor gets up and looks at Priest who grabs the belt…..and then smiles and hands it to Finn. The two hug and all four members of The Judgment Day put their hands in the air, apparently united after all. 

 

Priest and Finn leave the ring smiling and high fiving while Seth recovers and gives chase. Rhea Ripley & Dom stay in the ring because when Raw comes back, our main event will be next. 

Who will challenge Rhea Ripley at SummerSlam? Will it be Nikki Cross? Will it be Candice LeRae? Or will it be the WWE Hall of Famer, Trish Stratus?

Raw returns with a graphic saying that just signed for next week will be Damian Priest & Finn Balor vs World Heavyweight Champion Seth “Freakin” Rollins and a partner of his choice. And Matt Riddle will face Drew McIntyre next week on Raw.

 

 

We see that Mami, the Women’s World Champion, Rhea Ripley is sitting on the lap of Dominik Mysterio at ringside as the main event gets under way.

 

 

#1 CONTENDER’S MATCH

TRISH STRATUS VS NIKKI CROSS VS CANDACE LARAE

 

*Out the gate, Trish acts like the babyface of old as her and Candice dispatch of Nikki before squaring up and trading near falls

*Nikki gets back into the ring and nails Trish from behind who falls to the floor and then its about showing Nikki Cross as a badass. She grabs Candice by the hair and actually has LeRae’s hair in her mouth before Trish sneaks in and rolls up Nikki for a near fall

*Next, a brawl happens between all three women and Candice takes over and scores some near falls on both women, even doing the old Trish Stratus Bulldog on Trish herself. Lita cheers on her friend who kicks out at the last second

*After more near falls, Nikki is able to dump Candice to the floor and then DDT Candice right on the ring steps, knocking her out

*The rest of the match is Nikki and Trish trying to hit finishers before Trish is able to duck a charging Nikki and then nail the Chick Kick for the 1…2….3.

 

RESULT: TRISH STRATUS WINS BY PINFALL AND IS THE NEW #1 CONTENDER FOR THE WOMEN’S WORLD TITLE AT SUMMERSLAM

 

 

 

After the match, Lita gets in the ring and hugs Trish Stratus. Gone are the old mannerisms of the heel Trish as Stratus seems to remember who she really is.
 

Rhea Ripley arrogantly claps and gets in the ring with her title. Lita stands at the side of her friend ready to defend Trish in case this is a set up, but no fighting happens.

Trish and Rhea go nose to nose and then Rhea Ripley raises the Women’s World Championship up in the air.

The WWE Hall of Famer has a chance at destiny one last time. Trish Stratus will challenge Rhea Ripley in an epic match for the Women’s World Championship?

What a night and what a match for SummerSlam!!!
