He sold his company in 2001 for an enormous fee, instantly making him one of the richest men in Mexico. In 2003 he invested in OLLIE, saving them from a desperate financial situation. A hands-off owner, he was content to let Phoenix I run the company for the next fifteen years. With OLLIE consistently losing money and his other businesses struggling too, Soler chose to sell the company to Phoenix I for a nominal fee in the summer of 2018. What we know now: Joaquin Soler is back to form. After his last investments in some of the finest mexican startups paid off, Soler appeared in the Forbes Mexico's Top 100 Richest Billionaires 2019 list after years of absence. His passion for wrestling hasn't changed and he has a new project in mind. This time Soler isn't interested in any mexican company, he looks to the West Coast, where he wants to expand his activities. He thinks there's room for a new company in California. A combination of Lucha style, high-flying action, good stories, a strong women's division and many fans with hispanic origins could work well in his opinion. However, he doesn't want to make the same mistakes this time and he believes the best choice is to start with a small roster. Alfonso Garcia: Ok guys, we have a big match to start! Pantera Roja, you may already know him as Red Panther in Japan or Phenomenal E in other promotions, versus Masked Cougar, one of the most recognized wrestlers in the West Coast. Grace Harper: That cougar is no competition for our panther! PANTERA ROJA vs MASKED COUGAR In a match that mostly served to work the crowd Pantera Roja applied the Feline Instinct to defeat Cougar. Mac Smith: That pantera is wild, I'm not sure about some things he did though. Alfonso Garcia: Our second match is a Triple Threat match and is ready to start! MUSTANG BLANCO JR vs EL HIJO DEL NEUTRON vs EL ORGULLOSO In a car crash match full of dangerous spots, El Hijo Del Neutron used the Neutron Gun to pin El Orgulloso. El Hijo Del Neutron def. El Orgulloso and Mustang Blanco Jr via pinfall (Rating: 46, Time: 12') Mac Smith: Wow, I haven't seen anything like that Neutron Gun before. Grace Harper: I think he just got lucky this time. AMERICAN FLASH vs CHESS MANIAC Chess Maniac showed his wrestling psychology to finally defeat a fan favorite in a very competitive match with the Checkmate. Chess Maniac def. American Flash via submission (Rating: 54, Time: 18') Mac Smith: I feel bad for Flash, the crowd feels the same, that Checkmate came out of nowhere! Grace Harper: West Coast, ChessMania has begun! Alfonso Garcia: ChessMania? Isn't too soon for that, Grace? Next we have the second semifinal of the LAP Women's Parejas Tournament! LAP Women's Parejas Tournament SF PEREZ & TORRES (PINKY PEREZ & MARIANA TORRES) vs LILLY & ROSE (KATE LILLY & DEBBIE ROSE) This two tag teams stole the show. We have two true great parejas here. Grace Harper: Yes, well no. In fact, you can't compare Lilly & Rose to any other parejas in LAP, they are my favorites to win the title. The winner of this match earns a spot in the first LAP Lucha title match! Mac Smith: Both are 35 years old, both of them have a great title history... but Frankie Perez has been around for the last fifteen years, winning everywhere, while we haven't seen anything from Remmy Skye since 2014. Grace Harper: Remmy Skye is a drug abuser. Alfonso Garcia: Grace! Mac Smith: He had problems with drugs in the past, but if he is back to wrestling I think we should give him the benefit of the doubt. Main Event: Winner advances to first LAP Lucha title match (Ladder Match) FRANKIE PEREZ vs REMMY SKYE This was a Ladder Match full of aerial moves. After a dangerous spot where both wrestlers landed badly, Remmy Skye stood up sooner to climb the ladder and advance to the first LAP Lucha title match. Remmy Skye def. Frankie Perez by retrieving a pass to the title match (Rating: 56, Time: 12') Alfonso Garcia: What a comeback! What a story! Remmy Skye is back and is back to the top as he advances to the first LAP Lucha title match! Mac Smith: I must admit that I'm fighting tears right now, this got very emotional in the end. EL HIJO DEL NEUTRON vs AIR ATTACK WEASEL In a match full of flashy aerial spots, El Hijo Del Neutron applied the Neutron Gun on Weasel. El Hijo Del Neutron def. Air Attack Weasel via pinfall (Rating: 45, Time: 12') Mac Smith: I can't think of anyone who can kick out of the Neutron Gun. El Hijo Del Neutron is one of the strongest candidates to win the LAP Lucha title in my opinion. Grace Harper: I'm just a bit disappointed about Weasel, I thought he'd be that man, Mac. Alfonso Garcia: Finally, our Main Event match. The last Quarterfinal match, Kill Switch Frankie Perez vs Pantera Roja. Mac Smith: Pantera Roja was awesome defeating Masked Cougar in his first match. On the other hand, I wouldn't like to face Kill Switch, specially after a loss. Main Event: LAP Lucha Title Shot Tournament QF FRANKIE PEREZ vs PANTERA ROJA After some false finishes that made this match the most competitive of the night, Frankie Perez hit the P-Clutch to defeat Pantera Roja. Kill Switch Frankie Perez has been one of the best wrestlers in the West Coast for years and he still hasn't been pinned or submitted in LAP, remember that his only loss was in the Ladder Match at Apertura. On the other hand, Chess Maniac has won all of his matches by submission, that is absolutely impressive. How you stay away from the Checkmate? I have no idea. Mac Smith: Wow, these are two great contenders for the first LAP Lucha title match. Very different stories here. Chess Maniac, who has won a Tournament to advance to this title match, who has defeated all his opponents in LAP by submission. He knows how to slowly take wrestlers apart and his Checkmate submission is probably the most feared move in LAP. Then there's Remmy Skye, the great high flyer who had problems with drugs and the one who cameback to wrestling after years of absence to earn this opportunity in a Ladder Match at our first event Apertura. His charisma, his daredevil style and his willingness to risk injury makes him a fan favorite. Main Event: If Chess Maniac and Frankie Perez win, LAP Lucha champion Remmy Skye will defend his title in a Triple Threat Match CHESS MANIAC & FRANKIE PEREZ vs REMMY SKYE & JONNIE PEREZ The match starts with Remmy Skye and Chess Maniac and it turns out a car crash from the beginning. The LAP Lucha champion Remmy Skye is taking the advantage when Frankie Perez tags in. Kill Switch and Remmy Skye are even and finally Jonnie Perez tags in. Frankie and his brother Jonnie look at each other for a long time and the crowd is excited waiting for the brothers to fight each other, but then Jonnie Perez scapes to the ringside. Remmy asks Jonnie what is he doing, but Jonnie just waits there until the count out. It was clearly an intentional count out. The crowd boos this finish and chants "bullsh*t". Soler pointed out the importance of the broadcasting deal with the new internet subscription service WrestleWorld. LAP Camino A Amenaza Day 1 made history when it became the first event ever to be aired on WrestleWorld. Soler insisted that LAP led the change and since then other californian companies like CZCW or GSW have made similar deals with WrestleWorld, as well as many other small or tiny companies like MAW, RIPW, NYCW, QAW, ACPW, PSW or FCW. Soler also talked about his willingness to spend on big names in the future. Soler said LAP will spend when necessary to improve the roster, but he doesn't want to make the same mistakes they made at OLLIE years ago. Until LAP doesn't increase its size we won't see a revolution, but we may see new faces joining the permanent roster progressively. At the same time, LAP is ready to accept wrestlers with different styles if they add something interesting to the mix, but a strong core of wrestlers with a solid Lucha background will always be fundamental to maintain the essence of this project. But we have to continue with the show and in our last match, our Main Event tonight, the LAP Lucha title match: the champion Remmy Skye vs Kill Switch Frankie Perez. Mac Smith: This is a rematch from our first event ever, Apertura. In that match Remmy Skye defeated Frankie Perez in a Ladder Match to advance to the first LAP Lucha Title Match. Frankie Perez has wanted revenge ever since then. Grace Harper: That was completely different, it was a Ladder Match. Remmy Skye can be considered as a specialist in that kind of match. Skye never pinned or submitted Frankie Perez. The same happened in the Triple Threat Title Match at Amenaza, when Remmy Skye pinned Chess Maniac. I don't think that Remmy Skye can defeat Kill Switch one on one. Alfonso Garcia: Ladies and gentleman, our Main Event is ready to begin! Main Event: LAP LUCHA CHAMPIONSHIP REMMY SKYE (c) vs FRANKIE PEREZ Remmy Skye and Frankie Perez caught fire from the beginning of the match. Skye went for dangerous aerial spots that included a moonsault and tope con hilo. Frankie Perez used all of his skills on Skye, from kicks to takedowns. Kill Switch tried to submit Skye but the champion avoids submission with a rope break. After landing on the challenger with a legdrop, the champion pinned him, but he kicks out at 1. Frankie Perez had the advantage after a good combination and hit Skye with his P-Clutch finisher and 1, 2... No! The champion kicks out at 2. Frankie Perez is shocked and Skye tries to roll his back for a new pinfall attempt and 1, 2... No! Frankie Perez kicks out at 2. Skye climbed to the top turnbuckle for his finisher, the Skye Diver and 1, 2, 3! The champion retains. Remmy Skye def. Frankie Perez via pinfall (Rating: 64, Time: 12') Mac Smith: That match was awesome. This is an incredible defence for Remmy Skye. This match is an early candidate for Match Of The Year in LAP. Grace Harper: I can't believe Frankie Perez didn't win this match, he was so close! I'm not sure about that count after the P-Clutch, to me it was a 3 count. Eight great wrestlers competing for the cup. Grace Harper: There're some big names here. We already know most of them, but others will be in LAP for the first time. It's very cool to have this event in Los Angeles. Alfonso Garcia: This is the bracket, what do you think? Mac Smith: I like Pantera Roja vs Sunburst, that's a good match. In the other three matches there's someone new in each of them. It's very promising. Alfonso Garcia: Well, Pantera Roja vs Sunburst is the first match of the night! PANTERA ROJA vs SUNBURST In a match where they were did a very good job to work the crowd, Pantera Roja hit Sunburst with the Feline Instinct. Pantera Roja def. Mac Smith: Dragon Americano is a 31 year old high flyer from California. We already know how good is the Neutron Gun, one of the most powerful finishers in LAP. DRAGON AMERICANO vs EL HIJO DEL NEUTRON In a car crash match, El Hijo Del Neutron hit Dragon Americano with the Neutron Gun. El Hijo Del Neutron def. Dragon Americano via pinfall (Rating: 50, Time 12') A Alfonso Garcia: Devastating Neutron Gun to end the match by El Hijo Del Neutron! Mac Smith: I don't think Dragon Americano was prepared for it. Alfonso Garcia: Eléctrico vs El Orgulloso. Eléctrico makes his first appearance in this one too. Mac Smith: Yes, Eléctrico is arguably one of the best mexican wrestlers of his generation and he has one of the best attire in Lucha history. At 45 years old he has nothing left to prove and to have him here for all of us is something to enjoy. ELÉCTRICO vs EL ORGULLOSO Eléctrico and El Orgulloso tried to steal the show but Eléctrico was a little bit slow. Eléctrico hit El Orgulloso with the Electric Shock. Eléctrico def. Mac Smith: Hysteria is a 38 year old mexican luchador. Mustang Blanco Jr comes off a win at Venganza with Segunda Generación alongside El Hijo Del Neutron. HYSTERIA vs MUSTANG BLANCO JR In a car crash match, Hysteria submitted Mustang Blanco Jr with an Armlock. Hysteria def. Mustang Blanco Jr via submission (Rating: 42, Time: 12') Grace Harper: Hysteria has become my favorite to win this cup after this match. Alfonso Garcia: Let's take a look at the bracket after the first round: Mac Smith: The Semifinals are red hot right now. Alfonso Garcia: Eléctrico vs Hysteria in our next match! Mac Smith: They have rested less than the other semifinalists, but at the same they will have more time to rest before the Final. I can't say who's going to advance to the Final, they are too close in my opinion. Grace Harper: Hysteria. ELÉCTRICO vs HYSTERIA In a match that was slower than it was supposed to be, Eléctrico hit Hysteria with the Electric Shock. Eléctrico def. The panther is my man now. PANTERA ROJA vs EL HIJO DEL NEUTRON In a long match with good story telling, Pantera Roja survived a Neutron Gun and then hit El Hijo Del Neutron with the Tumbleweed Legdrop. Pantera Roja def. El Hijo Del Neutron via pinfall (Rating: 56, Time: 21') Alfonso Garcia: Pantera Roja survived the Neutron Gun! Mac Smith: That probably makes him the favorite to win the Final. Grace Harper: Undoubtedly. Alfonso Garcia: We are about to discover who's going to win the first Supercopa De La Lucha! Main Event: SUPERCOPA DE LA LUCHA FINAL PANTERA ROJA vs ELÉCTRICO Pantera Roja went on the offense for the first minutes, but Eléctrico slowed him down using his psychology to confuse Pantera Roja with some veteran moves. Pantera Roja once again had the advantage and went for the Tumbleweed Legdrop, but Eléctrico somehow kicks out at 2. After almost losing the cup, Eléctrico tries to comeback while blocking Pantera Roja's reaction with some holds and finally executes the Electric Shock to defeat Pantera Roja. Eléctrico def. Pantera Roja via pinfall (Rating: 58, Time: 10') Alfonso Garcia: Eléctrico did it! Eléctrico won the Supercopa De La Lucha! Mac Smith: He's still awesome. What a name to write on top of the list of Supercopa De La Lucha winners. This cup is going to build some reputation after this first edition. Alfonso Garcia: I completely agree. Sunburst was in the opening match which end up being the Match Of The Night and lost to a finalist that's been booked strong so far, not bad in my opinion. I have different plans for Mustang, I thought this cup wasn't important for him in that direction. Lucha America Productions owner Joaquin Soler said that "Electrico has been a dream for a long time. During my time in the Mexican wrestling industry he always worker for my competitors. I had no doubts when EILL didn't extend his contract, this was the opportunity I was waiting for.
