Buff Bagwell seals new 1 year deal with WCW

It was confirmed last night that WCW and Shane McMahon have come to terms with a contract renewal for Buff Bagwell. It is rumoured that both Buff Bagwell and WCW were actually hoping for WWF to show some interest in him and make him an offer to join the WWF, as Buff believed he could make more money in WWF and WCW top brass are not altogether sold on him due to concerns about his personality backstage.

WWF did not appear to have been interested in Bagwell and made no offer for him despite his contract being in the last month meaning they could bid if they wanted. Shane McMahon is thought to have been of the opinion that it would be better to renew Bagwell than release him as they are still short on star-power, but Shane was content to let him go to WWF for more or even the same money if an offer had come him.

It is thought that one man who will benefit form this will be Viscera, newly christened "Buff Daddy V" and teaming with Bagwell as "Buff Enuff". It is thought that when Shane first came in it was his idea to sign Viscera and put him with Buff Bagwell as a team, but he had soured on Bagwell since then due to Bagwell's antics backstage.

From what we know Shane had already issued a warning to Bagwell due to a rib on referee Nick Patrick that went "too far" and had referees threatening to go on strike. Bagwell is also said to have been causing problems backstage with Kwee Wee (Allan Funk) who Bagwell doesn't get along with. It is said that he has already turned several other members of the locker-room against Kwee Wee who many backstage suggest has done nothing wrong. Tensions haven't escalated with Kwee Wee backstage to the point that Shane McMahon has had to step in yet and it is thought that Shane McMahon is turning something of a blind eye on the basis that Bagwell is a bigger star than Kwee Wee who it is thought will be released when his current deal expires in a few months anyway.

Nitro Episode 9:

Wednesday 27 June 2001

Live late-night on FX

8,642 crowd in Birmingham, Alabama

----

Show opens up with Linkin Park's 'Runaway'

Runaway - Linkin Park (Hybrid Theory) - YouTube

Tony Schiavone on comms, sombre, says it's Wednesday night folks, we're here for Nitro live in Birmingham, Alabama... as you can see Shane McMahon is in the ring to open the show to tonight with an announcement after Team WCW's loss in the War Games match at The Great American Bash.

Shane McMahon opens up the show looking annoyed and sad. His face is still in a bad way and he has several stitches dotted around his head and neck. Says he takes full responsibility for Team WCW's loss at The Great American Bash. It was his fault. He shouldn't have put himself in the match. He shouldn't have put himself first entrant. He shouldn't have tried that Coast to Coast. Shane says he has a lot to learn about being a promoter and running a wrestling company and on Sunday night he was humbled and embarrassed in front of the world.

Shane says he doesn't like The Extreme Alliance but they won that War Games match... whilst he did not agree to give any of them contracts as part of that match as that's not how he wanted to do business... they did win at The Great American Bash and so he is willing to give each member a chance to win a WCW contract at Bash At The Beach... Shane says he will have more to say on that announcement later in the show on Nitro so stay tuned!

In the mean-time..

WCW Booker T Theme - YouTube

Booker T comes out with the WCW World Heavyweight Champions and says to Shane you just said you got a lot to learn about being a promoter... and now you talkin' 'bout giving those guys the chance to win a WCW contract at Bash At The Beach??

Shane says he is a businessman first and he will do what's best for business no matter how unpopular it is or how much he personally doesn't like the people involved. Shane says you will have to trust me on this champ, you'll find out next week that it won't be a walk in the park for any member of The Extreme Alliance to get their hands on a WCW contract and members of the WCW roster will have a chance to stop them from getting the chance at a contract...

Booker says if Shane needs him to fight any one of those suckas he's more than willing... Shane says thanks for the offer champ... but you won't be fighting any of The Extreme Alliance at Bash at the Beach... I'm not just going to give any of those guys a shot at the World Title... no, at Bash At The Beach... live in California... in the main event you will be defending your WCW World Heavyweight Championship and it is only fair that the man who got his shot disturbed by The Extreme Alliance gets a rematch for that title... at Bash at the Beach it will be Booker T vs...DDP!!

WCW DDP Theme Song Self High Five - YouTube

Booker looks slightly annoyed at DDP's sudden arrival.

DDP says he's glad that for the time being they can put The Extreme Alliance fiasco behind them... he says to Booker that at War Games at the Great American Bash they fought together... but he's glad that at Bash at the Beach they will fight against each other in the rematch that he's owed after The Extreme Alliance's interference at Big Bang!

Booker T says he guesses it's only fair that DDP gets the rematch and Shane has already promised it to him

DDP says best of luck at the PPV champ and holds out his hand to show respect to Booker T. Booker T goes to shake his hand when-

The New World Order (NWO) Theme Song - YouTube

DDP and Booker T look over at Scott Hall pretty shocked he's come out, Shane looks a bit uneasy

Tony on commentary wonders why Scott Hall is trying to interject himself in this conversation!

Booker T asks him what the hell he thinks he's doing out here??

DDP says he's got a lot of respect for Scott but if he thinks he's going to get himself in the title picture, he better wait in line, hell if I beat Booker at Bash at the Beach I'll be sure to give you a shot my brother, but this is my time now...

Scott Hall says to DDP that's where he's wrong... Scott Hall says to Shane that it's time... he's got a real good feeling about Bash at the Beach...

Booker T says Scott might think he's the big time but he's just got here... the NWO doesn't run things around here anymore... it's Shane McMahon's show now... Scott Hall will have to get to the back of the line for a shot at his title...

Shane looking very uneasy now

Scott Hall says Booker is mistaken... he didn't just come back to WCW for the money... Scott says he came back to WCW because Shane McMahon offered him something that the WWF wouldn't... a guaranteed shot at the WCW World Heavyweight Championship!

WHAT! Tony says.

Scott says he could take his shot right here in the main event of Nitro tonight in his first show back... but he thinks it's best to get a few matches under his belt first... but at Bash at the Beach... 5 years from the beginning of the NWO... there's going be a new heavyweight champion of this sport... THE BAD GUY! Scott Hall!

DDP just laughs with a bemused look on his face

Booker T says to Shane "tell meeee he didn't just say that! Tell me you didn't give this jackass a shot at MY championship as part of his contract??"

Shane McMahon reluctantly says he did what he felt was best for business and for WCW and the best thing for WCW was Scott Hall coming back home! Shane says he hadn't anticipated Scott Hall wanting to take his guaranteed shot at the World Heavyweight Championship this soon into his arrival... but Shane says he has no choice but to honour Scott Hall's contract clause... so at Bash at the Beach it will be a Triangle match for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship... at Bash at the Beach it will be:

Booker T vs DDP vs Scott Hall!

Booker T looks furious. DDP can't believe it. Scott Hall just laughing.

JJ Dillon with Eric Bischoff backstage

JJ says well Eric I'm sure WCW fans will be wondering what we've got in store for them on tonight's show.

That's right JJ, Eric says, Team WCW lost at War Games to the Extremely Crap Alliance... but as the WCW General Manager I'm aiming for tonight's show to prove to the world that WCW is still where the big boys play!

In action later tonight we will see the WCW World Heavyweight Champion, Booker T, teaming with his now medically cleared brother, Stevie Ray in a tag team match...

The newly crowned WCW Cruiserweight Champion, Juventud Guerrera will put his title on the line in the first match of the show against Kaz Hayashi...

We will have 'Dr Death' Steve Williams make his much anticipated return to a WCW ring!

There will be a 3 way tag team match to determine the #1 contenders for the WCW World Tag Team Championship belts between 3 of the hottest tag teams in the company right now... Buff Enuff will take on The MexiCruisers and Team Canada with Mike Awesome medically cleared to compete tonight!

And in our main event tonight Rob Van Dam will put the WCW United States Championship on the line against La Parka!

Match 1:

Juventud Guerrera (c) vs Kaz Hayashi (with Jimmy Yang) for the WCW Cruiserweight Championship

WCW Jung Dragons 2nd Theme Song - "Gong/Shakuhachi" (With Tron) - YouTube

WCW Juventud Guerrera 2nd Theme Song - "Summer Nights In Spain" (With 2nd Tron) - YouTube

Super Crazy and Psychosis come out just after Juventud and then after giving him some encouragement leave him to go to the back.

Kaz Hayashi out here with Jimmy Yang his tag team partner, Tony says, it looks like The MexiCruisers will stay in the back for the match tonight... perhaps understandable given we have word that The MexiCruisers will be 1 of the 3 teams competing in the 3 way tag team match later in the night to be number 1 contenders to the WCW World Tag Team Championships....

The match itself is a high-flying one to open the show with lots of high spots. Juventud is in good form following his big win at The Great American Bash and whilst Kaz Hayashi comes out of the match looking quite good he doesn't have enough and Juvi gets the win with the Juvi Driver.

Juventud Guerrera wins via pinfall - (61) - (7.38)

-------

After the match Juvi grabs a mic and starts to cut a promo.

Juvi says the Cruiserweight title is back where it belongs on his waist... he's now a 4 time WCW Cruiserweight champion and he's in the form of his life... there ain't nobody in WCW's past, present or future that's going to prize this belt off of his waist! Juvi says Helms and Kidman can get to the back of the line... he puts out a challenge to any past WCW Cruiserweight Champion to come on out and stake a claim for the right to challenge him!

WCW Chavo Guerrero Last Theme - YouTube

Chavo Guerrero Jr comes out and says Juvi's always been one of the top performers in the ring... he's got all the charisma in the world... but what will always hold him back is his behaviour outside the ring and not knowing when to shut up! Chavo says Juvi might have hold it 4 times... but he's also lost it 3 times too! Chavo says if Juventud wants to a real challenge... then's he's looking at it! He says if Juvi has any guts he will be put the title on the line against him next week on Nitro!

Juvi says it's not that easy! Juvi says he will give Chavo a chance to earn a shot at the title... Juvi says next week he will team up with his brothers the MexiCruisers and if Chavo can find 2 amigos to team with him and they can beat The MexiCruisers... then Juvi will give Chavo a shot at his title!

Freestyle segment with Juventud Guerrera and Chavo Guerrero Jr - (48 rated)

JJ Dillon with Team Canada (Lance Storm & Mike Awesome)

JJ asks Lance Storm and Mike Awesome what kind of condition they are in tonight. Mike Awesome of course missed the War Games match after Terry Funk took him out, whilst Lance Storm was in the match and seemed to look in a bad way during it.

Lance Storm says he's fine to compete tonight and in-fact if he can be serious for one moment tonight is a big night for Team Canada. They will be competing in the Triangle match for a shot at the WCW World Tag Team championships and Lance is convinced they will get the win tonight.

Awesome says he's back with a point to prove tonight. He's sure that cowardly old man Terry Funk isn't here tonight as he's still not recovered from last week... Awesome says he's not finished with Funk yet, but for the mean time they've got the tag titles to win so Funk can wait, but Funk will pay as he cost Awesome his place in the War Games match and ultimately he cost WCW the victory...

Freestyle segment with JJ Dillon & Team Canada (47 rated)

--------

Eric Bischoff and Johnny Ace in Shane's office.

Shawn Stasiak, Mark Jindrak and Stacy Keibler are in there. Shawn Stasiak is arguing to Bischoff about not getting booked in the 3 way tag team match for a shot at the WCW World Tag Team championships. Stasiak says they beat Windham & Rotunda at The Great American Bash so he doesn't see why they shouldn't be in that match. Bischoff says Stasiak and Jindrak should calm down... their both young and upcoming stars on the roster... they will get their moment in the sun.

At this moment Kanyon bursts in followed by DDP. Kanyon is unhappy and wants to know why after he beat Axl Rotten from Team WCW at The Great American Bash he can't get a shot at the WCW United States Championship, but La Parka who's had 1 match in WCW since Shane took over gets a shot at Rob Van Dam in the main event...

Eric Bischoff tells Kanyon to calm down. DDP tries to get him to calm down. Johnny Ace says Kanyon should calm down, he's not even been medically cleared to compete tonight after his match with Rotten.

Bischoff butts in and says Kanyon didn't even win the match outright! Kanyon only won the match via DQ because those extremely crappy wrestlers couldn't behave. Besides, La Parka is an international star who has won titles in Mexico... what has Kanyon ever won?!

Kanyon is seething at this injustice. Shawn Stasiak and Mark Jindrak laugh at him. This gets him hot. DDP gets in the middle of them.

Mark Jindrak says it's a shame Kanyon isn't cleared tonight as he'd be more than happy to put him in his place and show the world why he doesn't deserve a title shot.

DDP says Kanyon might not be medically cleared tonight... but he is! DDP says he'll see Mark Jindrak in the ring later tonight!

DDP and Kanyon leaves. Mark Jindrak looks a bit concerned but Shawn Stasiak hypes him up and says DDP will be weak from the War Games match tonight is the best time to get a statement win over him!

Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat then comes in with Meiko Satomura and asks Eric Bischoff when he plans to decide who will be number 1 contender for the WCW World Women's Championship.

Stacy quickly interjects and says she wasn't pinned at the PPV so she should get the next shot at Akira Hokuto... it certainly shouldn't be Meiko!

Meiko and Stacy look set to have a fight but Stasiak, Jindrak and Steamboat get in the middle.

Bischoff loses his temper and says he won't be organising anything for the women's division! He's said it time and time again if he had it his way they wouldn't even have one. He says Johnny Ace better sort it out and hurry up getting in a General Manager for the Women's division if Shane is so keen on it. Johnny Ace says it's a work in progress.

Tommy Dreamer says he's never been given anything for free in his entire life and he will make sure he takes what is his!

Shane McMahon promo

Shane McMahon in the back with the WCW World Television Championship and the WCW World Hardcore Championship. Shane McMahon says ever since he bought WCW a lot of fans have been saying to him "yo Shane you should bring back the Television title", "hey Shane you should bring back the Hardcore belt" well after much consideration and also after speaking to the good people at FX who have offered WCW a good sponsorship deal I have decided that there will be a new WCW championship belt for everyone on the roster to compete for starting off at the upcoming Bash at the Beach PPV.

So which belt is coming back to WCW? Well, both actually.

You see what I have decided is that we will be combining the WCW World Television Championship's history with the WCW World Hardcore Championships history... and our good friends at FX have agreed a sponsorship deal for this new championship... so at Bash at the Beach we will crown the first ever WCW FXtreme Television Champion with a brand new belt paid for by FX to be revealed next week!

And this announcement also links in to my opportunity to the Extreme Alliance... they keep saying they're "too extreme" for WCW TV, well I never said that and I never agreed with that... I just didn't hire them because I didn't think they were the right fit for WCW... but they came after us and they got the win in the War Games... so I'm not as some people thought giving the 6 members of the Exteme Alliance to fight for a chance to all got their hands on a WCW contract... no... I am giving the 6 members of the Extreme Alliance the chance to win 1 WCW contract!

You see at Bash at the Beach the WCW FXtreme Television Championship will be fought for in a 6-way no-disqualification match with the winner crowned the new champion. However, if the winner of this match happens to be a member of The Extreme Alliance then along with being the new WCW FXtreme Television champion they will also get their hands on a WCW contract...

But I hope that the WCW roster makes sure that none of The Extreme Alliance even qualify for that 6-way match at Bash at the Beach.

Over the next 3 weeks on Nitro there will be 6 qualification matches for the PPV.

These will be:

Kanyon vs Sabu
Fit Finlay vs Tommy Dreamer
Buff Bagwell vs The Sandman
Steve Corino vs Stevie Ray
Balls Mahoney vs Shawn Stasiak
Axl Rotten vs Tajiri

Freestyle segment with Shane McMahon - (100 rated)

Wow! says Tony on commentary. So 6 men will compete for the FXtreme Television Championship at Bash at the Beach! Let's just hope it's 6 WCW stars rather than Extreme Alliance individuals!

But stay tuned folks as next up we have our main event which sees Rob Van Dam defend the WCW United States Championship against international wrestling star La Parka!

------

Main Event / Match 8:

Rob Van Dam (c) (with Bill Alfonso) vs La Parka for the WCW United States Championship

WCW La Parka 1st Theme Song - "Parental Advisory: Explicit Acts" (With Tron) - YouTube

WWE Rob Van Dam 1st Theme "Van Daminator" (HQ) - YouTube

This is a good match to end the show with La Parka and RVD showing off what they can do with some fast paced, high flying action and some big powerful technical wrestling too.

La Parka has a good showing with both men looking to steal the show but in the end Rob Van Dam just has too much for La Parka and he gets the win.

Rob Van Dam wins via pinfall (11.21) - (79 rated)

The show ends with Lance Storm and Mike Awesome coming out to stare down Rob Van Dam who shrugs as if to say "see you next week!"

WCW announce PPV schedule for the 6 months following July's Bash at the Beach show

August 2001: WCW Mayhem live from Baltimore, Maryland

September 2001: WCW Fall Brawl live from Detroit, Michigan

October 2001: WCW Halloween Havoc live from Houston, Texas

November 2001: WCW House of Cards live from Las Vegas, Nevada

December 2001: WCW Starrcade live from Nashville, Tennessee

January 2002: WCW Legacy live from Charlotte, North Carolina

There are two new events added to the WCW schedule.

November 2001 will see the premiere of WCW's new "House of Cards" event. It is not yet clear exactly what this event will be but given it is going to be held in Las Vegas the assumption is it will be some kind of Vegas inspired event. WCW have trademarked the House of Cards name for wrestling events and wrestling matches, so it is speculated that this could be Shane McMahon and WCW's take on the Royal Rumble PPV and it could be some kind of "card" themed Battle Royale which would be a call-back to Shane giving out cards on the first Nitro under his reign. Given that Starrcade is the next PPV if it is their answer to the Royal Rumble PPV then logic would suggest the winner would then headline Starrcade similar to how the winner of the Royal Rumble headlines Wrestlemania.

The other new event is WCW Legacy which will premiere from Charlotte, North Carolina in January 2002. The rumour with the legacy PPV is that it looks to, as the name suggests, honour the legacy of WCW. There are some in the loop who believe this will see the return of the WCW Hall of Fame and the PPV will actually incorporate new inductions to it. It is also believed that WCW Legacy may see the return of the Jim Crockett Cup, which was a tag-team tournament held in honour of Jim Crockett from 1986-1988 by Jim Crockett Promotions. WCW have also trademarked "The Fabulous Moolah Classic" which suggests there may well be some kind of women's tournament finishing at the PPV too.

This is a great high flying match to start the show, with all 4 men getting in a decent amount of their stuff. Shane Helms looks fantastic throughout the match and he channels his aggression of losing the Cruiserweight title to get some frustration out on Moore and Karagias who he blames for losing his belt.

In the end Shane Helms hits a Vertebraker on Karagias which sets up Billy Kidman to hit a Shooting Star Press to get the 3 count on 3 count

JJ asks Shane Helms if he's happy to have finally put an end to the 3 Count return.

Helms says he's real happy, obviously he's still annoyed to have lost his Cruiserweight Championship but he wants to move on to bigger and better things.

JJ says well you and Kidman seemed a hell of a team out there, have you thought about maybe entering the tag team division together?

Torrie Wilson pipes in to say she thinks that's a great idea and could be just what Kidman and Helms need.

Helms agrees with Torrie and says obviously it would be up to Kidman if he wanted to, but he'd be game for it.

Kidman seems keen but says he will have to think about it but will give Helms an answer next week.

Booker T (with Sharmell) and Stevie Ray backstage

Booker T is hyping up his brother for the match tonight saying he will be at ringside to support him. Stevie thanks him, Stevie says he wasn't sure about coming out of retirement for Shane's era of WCW, he got injured already a few weeks back and he thinks his time is numbered but it would be good to win one last title before he goes out so the chance to win the TV title once again would be good.

Booker says he knows his brother has got this and he'll beat that sucka Steve Corino without any shadow of a doubt!

Freestyle segment with Harlem Heat - (93 rated)

---------

Eric Bischoff and Johnny Ace backstage in Shane's office

Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat, Meiko Samotura and Stacy Keibler with Shawn Stasiak are all in there having a go at Bischoff for his lack of interest in the WCW Women's roster and how this is killing the women.

Steamboat makes the point there is not even a women's match booked for tonight.

Bischoff says he doesn't care about women's wrestling so won't be booking matches for it.

Johnny Ace says this was overlooked tonight but next week he has made the match that it will be Meiko Samotura vs Stacy Keibler live on Nitro with the winner facing Akira Hokuto for the WCW Women's Championship at Bash at the Beach.

Johnny Ace also confirms he has put the pen to paper on a new WCW Women's General Manager who will be announced next week on Nitro also so they won't have this problem moving forward.

Bischoff laughs this off and says whatever bum or loser they've hired just to book women's wrestling must be desperate for the money.

Freestyle angle with Eric Bischoff, Johnny Ace, Ricky Steamboat, Meiko Samotura, Stacy Keibler and Shawn Stasiak - (42 rated)

-------

Match 3:

Elix Skipper & Kid Romeo vs The Nu Road Warriors (Road Warrior Animal and Road Warrior Dog) (Non-Title match)

Their strength, experience and power from Animal eventually helps them get the win though.

The Nu Road Warriors win via pinfall - (6.41) - (57 rated)

------

JJ Dillon interview with Rob Van Dam (with Bill Alfonso), Terry Funk and 'The Fallen Angel' Christopher Daniels

JJ congratulates RVD on defending his WCW United States Championship in the main event of Nitro last week and says this week he's in the main event once again as RVD, Terry Funk and Christopher Daniels look to perhaps finally put to bed their ongoing feud with Team Canada. Lance Storm said last week their 3rd man will be a surprise, are you worried Rob?

RVD says he's not that kind of guy to be worried about what life will bring him. He's dealt with a lot of challenges in his time and he will have to deal with whoever Storm and Awesome throw up for them tonight.

Funk adds that he's determined to get the win tonight and settle his score with Mike Awesome especially

Daniels agrees and says he's proud to be teaming tonight with Funk and RVD in the main event of Nitro, it's what dreams are made of.

Freestyle segment with JJ Dillon, RVD, Funk and Daniels - (65 rated)

-------

Shawn Stasiak (with Stacy Keibler) and Mark Jindrak promo

Stasiak and Jinrak cut a promo on DDP and Kanyon calling them a bunch of losers. Jindrak says DDP got lucky beating him last week but DDP wanted to shake his hand because he knew on another day Jindrak would have got the best of him!

Stasiak says he's looking forward to beating Balls Mahoney next week on Nitro and booking his spot at Bash at the Beach where he will win his first ever WCW single's title! He says if Kanyon can get past Sabu next week then he'll still be no match for Stasiak at the PPV because the future of this company is not you... but me!

Stasiak says there's a reason why Kanyon keeps getting overlooked and it's because not only is he no looker... but he's just not that good! Kanyon will keep crying about his lot in life whilst Stasiak will take what's rightfully his by force and that's the difference between us!!

Freestyle segment with Shawn Stasiak and Mark Jindrak - (41 rated)

Match 4:

Dave Taylor (with Fit Finlay and Tajiri) vs 'Dr Death' Steve Williams (with Jimmy Hart)

Finlay's 2006 v2 Titantron Entrance Video feat. "Lambeg v2" Theme [HD] (youtube.com)

AJPW Steve Williams 1st Theme Song - "I Love It Loud" (With 1st Tron) (RIP) (youtube.com)

Dave Taylor puts up a decent fight but despite Finlay's attempts to assist at ringside he is no match for 'Dr Death' who after 5 minutes eventually gets the win after another fairly dominant performance on Nitro.

'Dr Death' Steve Williams wins via pinfall - (5.31) - (40 rated)

-------

After the match 'Dr Death' stands tall but not for long as Finlay and Tajiri quickly get into the ring and start beating him down. Dr Death manages to fight them off but the numbers game catches up with him and Finlay gets him down and all 3 of Fit's Fight Club start beating on him.

Jimmy Hart is screaming through his microphone asking for someone to put a stop to this

Barry Windham 9th WCW Theme 'Road To Glory (Underscore)' (youtube.com)

Barry Windham and Mike Rotunda come flying down the ramp and get in the ring to make the save. They managed to clear the ring of Taylor and Finlay but grab Tajiri.

Steve Williams gets up looking furious and he absolutely obliterates Tajiri with a horrific looking clothesline whilst Finlay and Taylor look on not very happy with how this has developed.

Freestyle segment with Fit's Fight Club, 'Dr Death' Steve Williams, Jimmy Hart & Barry Windham and Mike Rotunda (45 rated)

------

Steve Corino and Don Callis with Roddy Piper

Don Callis says Shane thinks he is being clever trying to turn The Extreme Alliance against each other by offering only 1 contract between 6 but Don Callis says Shane isn't as clever as he thinks he is because he has just guaranteed Steve Corino a spot on the roster and Don Callis a spot by proxy as his officially contracted manager

Steve Corino says it doesn't matter who they put in front of him he will deal with them. He says Stevie Ray should watch out later as Corino will show the world why Stevie Ray should've stayed retired and stuck to the announce desk!

Freestyle segment with Steve Corino, Don Callis and Roddy Piper - (53 rated)

----

DDP and Kanyon promo

DDP and Kanyon in the back retorting at Stasiak & Jindrak's earlier promo

DDP says he beat Jindrak last week and he's got not problem beating him again should their paths ever cross. Kanyon adds he's beaten Jindrak in the past and it looks like he's just bitter that he ain't got what it takes to succeed in this business!

Kanyon adds that Stasiak has got another thing coming if he thinks he's getting in his way of the WCW FXtreme Television Championship... Kanyon's never won a title in WCW and he's making damn sure that comes to an end at Bash at the Beach! Once he gets past Sabu he's got no problem beating some sense into Stasiak or anyone else who gets in his way.

Suddenly the promo is interrupted as Shawn Stasiak and Mark Jindrak burst into shot and take a cheap shot at Kanyon and DDP!

The 4 start brawling in the backstage area and have to be separated by backstage security and staff

Freestyle segment with DDP, Kanyon, Stasiak and Jindrak (84 rated)

'Sinister' James Mitchell promo with WCW World Women's Champion Akira Hokuto

Akira Hokuto cuts a promo in Japanese

Mitchell says that Akira doesn't care whether she has to face Stacy Keibler or Meiko Satomura at Bash at the Beach... Akira is the best women's wrestler in the world today and her goal in life is to prove that no woman on earth can beat her!

Mexicools - theme and Titantron Video (youtube.com)

The MexiCruisers come out for their entrance ahead of their 6 man tag team match with Chavo Guerrero and his mystery partners (if he's managed to find any)

Juventud in the ring cuts a promo saying come out Chavo come and show us how popular you are... if we have to beat you in a 3 on 1 handicap match then we will

WCW Chavo Guerrero Last Theme (youtube.com)

Chavo comes out and says Juvi can chill out as he's found a pair of guys who are motivated to get the win for him tonight by revenge!

WcW - Buff Bagwell (Buff Daddy) Theme (youtube.com)

Buff Bagwell and Buff Daddy V come out

Buff Bagwell on the mic says Super Crazy and Psychosis beat them last week for a shot at the WCW World Tag Team Championships. Buff says this was a fluke win and they don't deserve a shot - they had their shot at the titles on the first episode of Nitro and they blew it... Buff and Buff Daddy V will make sure after tonight they don't even make it to Bash at the Beach for their shot at the tag team titles!

----

Match 5:

The MexiCruisers (Juventud Guerrera, Super Crazy & Psychosis) vs Chavo Guerrero Jr & Buff Enuff (Buff Bagwell and Buff Daddy V) - If Chavo & Buff Enuff win then Chavo gets a shot at Juventud's WCW World Cruiserweight Championship

The MexiCruisers have a great showing in this match with all 3 of them bringing the energy against their opponnents with Chavo struggling to match up. However, once Buff Daddy V gets in the match the MexiCruisers all struggle to deal with him due to the sheer size of the man.

Eventually he tires out and Buff becomes the legal man. Chavo has Juventud distracted on the outside and Buff manages to hit his finish on Super Crazy and gets the win via pinfall as Buff Daddy V prevents Psychosis from breaking the count

Chavo Guerrero Jr & Buff Enuff win via pinfall - (6.30) - (58 rated)

-----

After the match Buff and Buff Daddy V still aren't satisfied after their loss to the MexiCruisers last week. Chavo throws Juventud into the steel steps which takes him out of action. In the ring Buff and Buff Daddy V are beating up Super Crazy and Psychosis relentlessly

Curt Hennig 2nd WCW Theme Alternate Version (youtube.com)

Curt Hennig comes running down to make the save, presumably still unhappy with Buff Bagwell who was talking trash to him last week on Nitro. Curt gets in the ring and is brawling with Buff and Buff Daddy V, he seems to maybe have the better when Chavo comes in and low blows him which then means the 3 of them can get the better of him.

Full Blooded ltalians (FBI) 2nd Titantron (with 2nd Theme) (youtube.com)

Johnny Stamboli, Little Guido and Tony Mamaluke come racing out and now with the numbers game firmly against them Chavo, Buff and Buff Daddy V decide its time to leave.

------

JJ Dillon interview with Scott Hall

JJ asks Scott how he's feeling after his first match back and victory against Blue Meanie last week. Scott says he's pleased to be back in WCW and it was great to get a warm-up match under his belt before Bash at the Beach, but he didn't really think Blue Meanie was any sort of match for him. Scott says tonight he's hoping for more of a challenge but it doesn't seem like anyone is up for facing him as he's just too formidable an opponent.

Blue Meanie and Nova come into shot

Scott not happy, what do you 2 losers want? I beat you up last week he said to Blue Meanie

Blue Meanie says if Scott Hall is the real bad guy... if he's really the man he says he is then tonight they've got one of the biggest tests of his entire career for him

Is that so? asks Scott

Meanie says after the match last week they got a call from one of the most legendary figures in WCW history who said for one night only he'd be willing to come to Nitro to teach Hall a lesson.

Hall laughs and says sure thing, whatever, I'll beat anyone

Freestyle segment with JJ Dillon, Scott Hall & b.w.o - (63 rated)

Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo are in the gym and Billy Kidman is also in the gym alone

Billy asks if one of them can spot him for a bench press. Sean O'Haire says sure Billy and comes to help him.

Billy does a few bench presses and Sean says Billy's sure looking good these days, the hard work is paying off. That was a hell of a match earlier tonight.

Kidman thanks O'Haire, says he's sorry about them losing their titles and he's sure Palumbo and O'Haire will get back on top sooner or later as guys like them are the future of WCW

O'Haire thanks Kidman and says he appreciates that, he's a true friend.

Kidman says, hey Sean, as a friend, what do you think about me and Helms teaming on a regular basis? He is keen for us to start a tag team together, Torrie thinks it's a good idea, but I'm not sure...

O'Haire says well Kidman if you're not so sure I think you already know how you feel about it. Look at Shane Helms, he's just lost his title, whining like a baby about 3 Count being at fault, they didn't lose the match at the PPV, he did. The way I see it, hell I think Helms just wants to get in there with your girl, Billy. I saw the way he was looking at her during the match... no wonder he wants to tag with you!

What! Billy gets really agitated. Sean says think about it Billy, a beautiful woman like Torrie, well sure I bet Shane Helms wants to get closer to her... from what I've heard they didn't call him 'Sugar' Shane for nothing... he's real sweet with the ladies from what I heard!

Kidman seems really annoyed and is questioning everything.

Sean adds, look Kidman, you're a top singles guy, you don't need to team with Helms to make it big here in WCW... but I think he needs you... maybe he doesn't want your girl... but if I had a girl as nice as yours... I'm not sure I'd want to wait and find out... but I don't think I'm telling you anything you don't already know.

Match 6: Bash at the Beach WCW FXtreme Television Championsip match qualifier 1 of 6

Steve Corino (with Don Callis) vs Stevie Ray

Harlem Heat WCW Theme (youtube.com)

Stevie Ray comes out with Booker T who has the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. Booker T joins the announcers at the announce desk for the match. Tony asks Booker about DDP/Scott Hall at Bash at the Beach and if he's in perfect condition for the match, but Booker says tonight is about his brother not him so he wants to focus just on this match and hopes Stevie can get some revenge on The Extreme Alliance for him, Stevie and all the other boys in the back

ECW Classic/Original Theme Song (youtube.com)

Steve Corino, like the other Extreme Alliance members still not an official member of the roster comes out through the crowd to the ECW theme with Don Callis.

This match gets a decent amount of time with Booker on commentary super into it trying to big up Stevie Ray to get the win. Stevie Ray has a good showing in the match, but Steve Corino's youth and agility seems to help him out, he's also technically better than Stevie Ray and seems to have a counter for a lot of Stevie Ray's stuff.

Stevie Ray looks like he might have an opening to hit a SlapJack, but Corino manages to counter, hits a Flatliner and then gets the pin!

Steve Corino wins via pinfall - (9.36) - (59 rated)

-----

After the match Steve Corino celebrates, he heads up to the top of the ramp with Don Callis where the WCW FXtreme Television Championship is and he takes a good look at it.

Booker T is furious on commentary. He gets up and tells Corino/Callis to get out of here and out of his way as he goes down to the ring to check on his brother after the loss.

-------

Sabu Promo

Sabu cuts a promo on Kanyon

He says Kanyon may well have built a reputation as being unhinged, a bit of a maniac and a man on a mission to get his hands on WCW gold... but you don't know who you're dealing with... I'm the HOMICIDAL...SUICIDAL...GENONICIDAL.. DEATH DEFYING MANIAC!!

Next week I show the world what they've been missing out on and book my spot at Bash at the Beach!

The New World Order (NWO) Theme Song (youtube.com)

Scott Hall comes out and says that clearly it wasn't enough for the b.w.o that he beat up that fat blue carnie hack last week and now this week he's gonna have to beat up some other clown that they're friends with.

WWE - bWo Theme (youtube.com)

Blue Meanie and Nova come out and say Scott Hall has bitten off more than he can chew this time. He made a lot of enemies over the years and one of those enemies who always hated the NWO and loved WCW has decided to shock the world and come to Nitro tonight to show Scott Hall WHO IS NEXT!!!!!!!!

WCW Goldberg 1st Theme Song - "Invasion" (With Tron) (youtube.com)

What?!?! Tony says on commentary

It can't be, says Arn Anderson

Scott Hall in the ring isn't maintaining his usual cool and calm demeanor. Whilst he's not completely shocked there are seeds of doubt on his face as to whether this is what it looks like

Blue Meanie says "Tonight... Scott Hall goes 1 on 1... with BLUEBERG!!!!!!!!!"

Duane Gill comes out onto the entrance way as Nova sets off a blue smoke cannister into his direction and he immediately starts coughing and choking

"Oh my... that's not Goldberg!" says Tony Schiavone.

Scott Hall is in the ring as if to say "you've got to be kidding me"

-------

Match 7:

'Blueberg' Duane Gill (with Blue Meanie & Nova) vs Scott Hall

The match starts off with Blueberg posing and doing his to intimidate Scott Hall who doesn't take him seriously at all.

This is a decisive win for Scott Hall who makes mince meat of Blueberg after toying with him for a few minutes. Scott Hall hits a Diamond Cutter, then a Scissor Kick on Duane Gill, before finally finishing him off with the Razor's Edge.

Scott Hall wins via pinfall - (3.23) - (61 rated)

After the match Scott Hall picks up Duane Gill and throws him over the ropes where Blue Meanie and Nova catch him. Scott Hall shouts into the camera, DDP, Booker, you ain't ready for the bad guy!

-------

Joey Styles with The Chair Swingin' Freaks (Axl Rotten & Balls Mahoney)

Joey Styles says next week the world will find out how big Shawn Stasiak's balls are! They talk about him as a rising talent, a hot young prospect in WCW... in all of wrestling... well next week we find out if he is a man!

Balls Mahoney says he has more extreme in his little toe than Stasiak has in his whole body. Next week on Nitro he's going to make him suffer!!!

-------

Main Event / Match 8:

Rob Van Dam (with Bill Alfonso), Terry Funk & 'The Fallen Angel' Christopher Daniels vs Team Canada (Lance Storm, Mike Awesome & Carl Oullet)

This match gets a decent amount of time with Lance Storm and Rob Van Dam particularly impressing across the course of the match. Terry Funk goes all out to try and fight Mike Awesome and ends up taking a nasty bump on the outside.

Oullet brings some power to the match and along with Awesome they make quite a hard-hitting team which Daniels especially struggles to deal with. Rob Van Dam brings the energy, high-flying and strikes but towards the end of the match Mike Awesome manages to nail him off the apron directly into Bill Alfonso which takes him out for a little while.

With Funk still not doing well, Daniels is completely isolated and gets caught with Storm who gets him into the Sharpshooter and makes him tap.

Team Canada wins via submission - (9.48) - (74 rated)

The show ends with Team Canada standing tall as Rob Van Dam, Funk and Daniels look a bit defeated by the result. Bill Alfonso hands RVD his US Title and Lance Storm seems to eye it up.

Scott Hall comes to the ring with what looks like a big bunch of neatly folded paper and then grabs a mic saying Hey yo, cut my music, cut my music.

Looks like 'The Bad Guy' has something to say Arn says.

Scott Hall says he's sure that everyone here in South Carolina was looking forward to seeing Scott Hall open Nitro tonight wrestling some no-name bum in a squash match... but whilst he understands why Shane McMahon and Eric Bischoff and the powers that be at FX want to get their moneys worth on the 6 figure monthly contract they gave him... and whilst he hates to be the bearer of bad news to the good people in Columbia tonight... he's afraid that the very contract they gave to him has a clause which specifically states he has creative control not to wrestle 3 consecutive TV shows in a row... and well Scott adds... I've already wrestled 2 Nitro's in a row so looks like you're s*** out of luck South Carolina!

The crowd boos

Tony mentions on commentary Scott Hall barely had to get out of second gear in his matches against The Blue Meanie and Blueberg in recent weeks.

Scott Hall tells the crowd they shouldn't hate the player, they should hate the game and...

WCW Booker T Theme (youtube.com)

Booker T comes out with the WCW World Heavyweight Championship around his waist.

Booker T says he knew it was a mistake for WCW to bring back Scott Hall. He says he doesn't like the fact that Scott Hall gets paid more than guys like him and DDP who have stayed loyal to WCW and would do anything for the fans... Booker says Scott Hall shouldn't even be getting a shot at Booker T's WCW World Heavyweight Championship at Bash at the Beach... and now he can't even be bothered to wrestle when he's booked in a match??

Scott Hall says he didn't see Booker wrestling in a match last week. He just saw Booker T on commentary watching his brother embarrass himself yet again when he should have stayed retired... Scott says Harlem Heat is on its last legs... Booker T's title reign is on it's last legs.

Booker starts to angrily reply but Scott cuts him off.

Scott Hall says Booker T and DDP can get Big Boy money when they draws Big Boy ticket sales, PPV buys and TV ratings. If you guys are such big stars then why-

WCW DDP Theme Song Self High Five (youtube.com)

DDP comes out with a mic and says Scott, you're my friend, I respect you a lot big guy... but if you're gonna come out here and start running your mouth about me in front of millions of people... then I ain't gonna sit back there and take it brother!

Scott Hall goes to reply but DDP is annoyed and cuts him off

No you listen to me Scott! You think you're such a tough guy?? You think you're such a "big boy"??? How about tonight you put your money where your mouth is... you think you're so much better than me, than Booker, than Stevie Ray?? Okay, well how about in the main event of Nitro... here in South Carolina... screw your 3 match creative control clause... if you're a real man 'Bad Guy'... how about we make it DDP, Booker T and Stevie Ray... versus Scott Hall and your new buddies in the The BWO!!!

Scott Hall looks furious at this suggestion.

Booker T says "not such a 'Bad Guy' now are ya?!? The trouble with you Scott is you ain't no Bad Guy! You're just a coward!

This really hacks off Scott Hall who then gets on the mic and says "Whatever... if that's the match you want... if you want me to embarrass you all in front of the world... then so be it!"

Oh boy! Tony Schiavone says!

I think Scott Hall may have bitten off more than he can chew here... the main event of Nitro tonight then... will be DDP & Harlem Heat taking on Scott Hall and The BWO!

JJ Dillon interview with Shawn Stasiak (with Stacy Keibler and Mark Jindrak)

JJ Dillon asks Shawn Stasiak if he is prepared for his match with Balls Mahoney of The Extreme Alliance tonight, with Stevie Ray losing to Steve Corino last week that's already one member of The Extreme Alliance in the match for the WCW FXtreme Television Championship at the expense of a WCW guy... the fans will be hoping for-

Shawn Stasiak says he doesn't give a damn what the WCW fans are hoping for! All Shawn Stasiak cares about is himself... and Stacy of course. Mark Jindrak grunts. Oh yeah and my main man Mark too of course!

Now look, Shawn says, Mark's got a black-eye from last week where DDP and Kanyon decided to get involved in our business. It looks like DDP might be a bit preoccupied worrying about the main event tonight... so what I would say to Kanyon tonight is-

Kanyon comes into shot

YOU CAN SAY WHAT YOU WANT TO MY FACE LIKE A REAL MAN BOY!!!

Kanyon gets right up in Shawn's face pushing Jindrak out of the way.

Stasiak looks scared but plays it tough.

Stasiak says look... look Chris... look I think this is all just one big misunderstanding

"A misunderstanding?!" Kanyon asks incredulously

Yeah, yeah, chill for a second Chris buddy. Shawn says if Kanyon was watching Nitro last night inbetween trying to batter up poor Mark Jindrak and me... you would have seen Steve Corino book himself a place at Bash at the Beach to get a shot at the WCW FXtreme Television title

Kanyon says he doesn't care who else is in that match at Bash at the Beach... that title is his!

Stasiak says sure, sure... but Chris... look we had a bit of a disagreement last week... but I think what I'm trying to say is buddy, tonight, we gotta let bygones be bygones... sure we could have a fight right here... we could knock 50 shades of crap out of each other... but don't you think that's what The Extreme Alliance... what Balls Mahoney and Sabu want us to do??

JJ Dillon says he's got a point

Kanyon says he didn't ask JJ anything

Stasiak says come on Chris, be reasonable, what I'm saying is, just for tonight... let's have ourselves a truce... you won't fight me before our match... I won't fight you before your match... whatever built up tension or anger there is between us... obviously mostly on your side but-

Kanyon gets hot again

Stasiak says chill chill... what I'm saying is let's get past our qualifying matches tonight first... then look at Bash at the Beach... hell even next week... then we can settle whatever problem it is we've got with each other... what do you say Chris ol' buddy ol' pal?

Stasiak puts out his hand to shake with Kanyon

Kanyon looks at it not trusting Stasiak at all.

JJ Dillon says for what it's worth if you want my opinion I don't trust this guy Stasiak, but Kanyon, I think for the greater good... for WCW... I think a one night truce between you guys is best for business!

Kanyon very reluctantly agrees and shakes Stasiak's hand!

Mike Awesome says Funk is an over the hill coffin dodger and Christopher Daniels should go back to the indies where he belongs.

Carl Oullett then starts beating down Kwee Wee who is still in the ring. Mike Sanders and Lash LeRoux attempt to help him out but Oullett and Awesome take them out too.

JJ Dillon interview with Shane McMahon

JJ asks Shane about the announcement later tonight for the new WCW Women's General Manager

Shane says firstly he's disappointed that he had to hire another member of staff to book the women's division. He doesn't agree with Eric Bischoff's take on this... but he's got Bischoff signed to a contract so at least for the mean time he will remain as General Manager of Men's wrestling in WCW

Shane says he wanted Johnny Ace to hire someone who was passionate about Women's wrestling and not just women's wrestling but respect for women. Shane says he doesn't want women's wrestling in this company to be focused on gimmicky bra and panties and mud fight matches (some boos in the crowd but some cheers too)

Shane says the person they've hired is someone who cares about women in the business, who promotes women empowering themselves and their beauty, but is also not afraid to stand up to the establishment and call out unsafe work conditions when people cross the line!

Shane says the bombshell announcement will be made later tonight!

Finlay comes out and heads to the announce desk as Taylor waits for Tajiri

Tajiri's 2001 v1 Titantron Entrance Video feat. "Imperial City" Theme [HD] (youtube.com)

Tajiri comes out not looking all that good but Dave Taylor eggs him on

On the commentary desk Tony mentions to Finlay he's heard that after Tajiri took a vicious clotheslines from 'Dr Death' Steve Williams last week he heard rumours backstage that Tajiri isn't even medically cleared to compete tonight.

Finlay laughs and says look Tony I don't expect you or Scott to understand, Arn will, but we're fighting men Tony. If I'm at home with a bad neck, not medically cleared, but an intruder comes into my property and tries to rob me, threatens my family, do I have to be medically cleared to get my ass out of bed and fight this guy out my property? The bottom line, is medically cleared or not, when fighting men have to step up they will step up... sure Tajiri could've taken the cowards way out and forfeited the match... but is that what the fans want? An Extreme Alliance guy to get a bye to Bash at the Beach?

Arn says Finlay is spot on

Tony says he guesses so but Tajiri really doesn't look too good

The match starts and it's clear from the start that whilst Tajiri will give it a good go he's not in a good way and his usual agile self. Dave Taylor eggs him on at ringside but it doesn't take long for Axl Rotten to get the upper hand. He even hits a clothesline himself which really takes a lot out of Tajiri.

Rotten eventually hits a Brainbuster to get the win, with Balls celebrating wildly at ringside.

After the match a dejected looking Fit Finlay comes off commentary but asks someone on production to give him a mic. He stands at the top of the entrance way and walks down to where Tajiri and Dave Taylor are.

Finlay calls out 'Dr Death' Steve Williams and Barry Windham & Mike Rotunda. He says 'Dr Death' damaged Tajiri which has given The Extreme Alliance another guy through to the match at Bash at the Beach... Finlay says Steve Williams was briefly in ECW once upon a time so could it be that he's actually helping them out for old times sake?

AJPW Steve Williams 1st Theme Song - "I Love It Loud" (With 1st Tron) (RIP) (youtube.com)

Steve Williams comes out with Jimmy Hart and Barry Windham and Mike Rotunda

Jimmy Hart says 'Dr Death' was in ECW for 5 minutes... he only had a handful of matches there but one of those was beating Axl Rotten which your boy Tajiri just failed to do! 'Dr Death' fears no man, he will fight anyone who is in his way... if that's Fit Finlay, Tajiri or anyone else then so be it!

Finlay says 'Dr Death' fears no man huh? Well I've got the name of someone who he does fear!

Jimmy Hart says who?! Steve Williams very animated asking like who? You??

Finlay then says "BART GUNN!!"

This gets 'Dr Death' really hot! The crowd laugh at the reference to the infamous Brawl For All match in WWF

Barry Windham grabs a mic and says if you and Dave Taylor are such tough guys... how about later tonight you boys go one and one with me and Mike with 'Dr Death' in our corner!

Finlay says he never backs down from a fight and they're on!

Sean O'Haire says they've given it thought and they want him on board.

Palumbo acts shocked asking O'Haire like we have?? We do want him on board?? What are you talking about??

Chuck Palumbo says what the hell man?! Don't I get a say in this??

We come back from commercial break to see Buff Bagwell in the ring with Buff Daddy V and Chavo Guerrero Jr

Buff Bagwell says first of all we'd like to send our regards to the MexiCruisers who couldn't be here tonight in South Carolina... seems we gave them such a bad beat-down last week that they were given the night off on medical grounds

Chavo is laughing at this especially and says "Hey Juvi?! Get well soon Buddy!!"

Buff says but on a serious note... we keep having people who ain't got no business with us sticking their noses in our business... Curt Hennig... I'll deal with you at a later date buddy... but FBI! You bunch of jabronis have to stop sticking your nose in our affairs! The way I see it... Little Guido and Tony Mamaluke... you're just bitter that we beat you at The Great American Bash... and Johnny Stamboli! I see you've dropped 'The Bull' from your name now, no surprise cause you well know that the idea you had the fighting ability of a bull was bull*hit!!

Chavo falls on the floor laughing at this

Buff says the way I see it... there's 3 of us out here... there's 3 of you... right here... right now... let's settle this beef once and for all bull-boy!

Match 3:

Buff Enuff (Buff Bagwell & Buff Daddy V) and Chavo Guerrero vs The F.B.I (Little Guido, Tony Mamaluke and Johnny Stamboli)

This is a fairly open match with all 6 guys getting in some offence. Once Buff Daddy V becomes the legal man it becomes difficult for Guido or Mamaluke to do much, but Stamboli gets in the ring and his size helps him get some shots in.

It seems like Buff Enuff manage to get the momentum back though after Chavo behind the refs back gets a low blow in on Stamboli.

Buff Daddy V is still the legal man and looks like he might get his finish off on Stamboli when all of a sudden Curt Hennig comes out to the ring. Buff Bagwell goes over to him and the referee gets out of the ring to intervene to ensure that Hennig plays no part in the match.

Chavo noticing the ref is distracted grabs a chair and tries to throw it into Viscera but Stamboli intercepts the chair as he's quicker than him and he absolutely nails Buff Daddy V with the chair several times until he goes down. Guido and Mamaluke take out Chavo, whilst Buff and Curt Hennig are arguing at the entrance way... the ref seems satisfied that Hennig won't interfere and he goes back to the ring to find Stamboli pinning a knocked out Buff Daddy V.

The ref rushes in and counts the 1...2....3 before Buff Bagwell can notice what's happened

The FBI win via pinfall - (6.21) - (56 rated)

I'm a former WCW United States Champion and a former WCW World Tag Team Champion... which is a damn sight more than most boys in the back have to say for their legacy!

But my legacy isn't over in WCW... it's just getting started... I'll be back on Nitro in a few weeks and I won't be alone.

Erik Watts comes into shot.

Erik Watts says he's back in WCW! He says like David he knows people always said he only got a spot in WCW because of his Daddy was Bill Watts... but Erik says both he and David have got where they are on hard work and hard work alone!

These two ladies of course have been at it in recent months. Meiko scored an upset win against Stacy back in May, then Stacy got a win over Meiko in a mixed tag match with Stasiak and Van Dam. Stacy ensured that Meiko didn't qualify for the Triangle match at The Great American Bash as she distracted Meiko in her match with Malia Hosaka.

This is an open match with Sable on commentary hyping up both of the women as being both attractive but also very talented in the ring... Sable says she hears Stacy is working very hard at the Power Plant to get better and better in the ring.

Meiko's experience is clear in this encounter and she ends up running rings around Stacy who doesn't get an advantage from Stasiak with Ricky Steamboat there on the outside

Eric Bischoff backstage in his office furious watching the television

'Sinister' James Mitchell comes in to speak to him with Akira Hokuto.

Bischoff asks if Mitchell can believe what they're seeing... Sable?! Really?! To promote women's wrestling?! What is this company coming to he asks?

Mitchell says it doesn't matter who is the Women's General Manager... Akira Hokuto is the future of women's wrestling and will hang onto her title whoever she faces

Bischoff says if Mitchell has come to talk to him about women's wrestling then he should get lost because-

Mitchell says he's not here for that. Mitchell says he's here to talk to him about tag team wrestling... specifically Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo... Mitchell says he knows that Bischoff has been a big fan of these guys before but in recent weeks they've not really featured on the card.

Bischoff says it's nothing personal, they've had busy cards, when they lost the titles they had to know they would be featured less, it's just business.

Mitchell says he agrees but he says why not give them a chance to prove themselves next week?

As they say this AJ Styles enters Bischoff's office

Bischoff asks what he wants??

AJ says he thought he put in a good showing against Curt Hennig last week given he's a rookie and he'd like a chance to prove himself as the future of the Cruiserweight division...

Mitchell says I don't know about that son, but I've got two big boys looking for a match next week... how about you find your self a partner and we have ourselves a tag team match next week on Nitro?

Shawn says Stacy is his manager, why would she not be out for his match this is a big match for him?? WCW Shawn Stasiak 4th Theme Song - "Stasiak Theme" (With Tron) (youtube.com)

ECW Classic/Original Theme Song (youtube.com)

Stasiak in the ring looking a bit distracted but Balls Mahoney and Axl Rotten come through the crowd once again.

The announcers point out Stasiak's truce with Kanyon earlier in the show promising that neither man would interfere in each other's matches or fight backstage tonight. Arn says that Kanyon is a loose cannon, I wouldn't trust that S.O.B one bit!

This is a fast paced hard hitting match with both guys getting in an even amount of offence. At one point Jindrak and Rotten seem to clash a bit at ringside but the ref stops it threatening to kick both of them out of the match.

As the match goes on after about 5 minutes Stacy Keibler, wearing formal wear instead of ring attire comes out to the ring to help support Stasiak.

Stacy's sudden arrival seems to distract Stasiak a bit, he seems happy that she's made the effort to come out to support him but this distraction causes the momentum to shift to Balls Mahoney who eventually hits a Ball Buster and gets what seems like a bit of a surprise win!

Roddy says let's cut to the chase, you guys were thrown together as a team and now you are champions, some would say you were handed those belts unfairly after Hawk called it a day, hey Animal?

Animal says he was the rightful champion and they only became champions as The Nu Road Warriors after they won against O'Haire and Palumbo at The Great American Bash

BG James cuts in and gets on the defensive saying they won the titles fair and square... some people wanna say I was given these titles on a silver platter... but that ain't the truth of the matter! I won these titles now I'm a 6 time tag team champion... hell that's more than my brother Animal here!

Animal looks annoyed at Dog bragging about winning more titles.

Piper asks them how they're feeling about their match with The MexiCruisers at Bash at the Beach... hell they ain't even here tonight cause they're too banged up you boys must be happy about that?

Animal starts to say they don't like to see anyone injured when it wasn't their fault when BG James buts in and says oh hell yeah any little advantage we can get that's what it's all about! If they're not 100 percent at the PPV then that's all the better!

This is a hard hitting tag team match that more resembles a brawl than a wrestling match. Finlay and Taylor keen to let off some steam but the experienced team of Windham & Rotunda all too happy to dish it back.

The match ends when Tajiri green mists 'Dr Death' at ringside after a disagreement. This causes Williams to go mental, he chases after Tajiri who runs into the ring to get away from 'Dr Death'. JJ Dillon says Kidman you said to give Shane some time to decide if you want to enter the tag team division... well live in front of all the fans what do you say?

Billy Kidman gets on the mic and says... I say...no...

Shane and Torrie both look surprised by this.

Shane says but why, Billy I thought-

Kidman says it's nothing personal, I've done the tag team stuff before, sure I'm not on the best singles run of my career but that doesn't mean I should just give up... it's a no and that's final... come on Torrie let's go

Billy and a reluctant and surprised Torrie leave the set

Shane Helms looks a bit disappointed

Match 7:

Kanyon vs Sabu - WCW FXtreme Television Championship qualifying match for Bash at the Beach

Kanyon (youtube.com)

ECW Classic/Original Theme Song (youtube.com)

The announcers hype up that Kanyon looks focused and in the zone for this one. It's not been a great set of results for WCW talent against The Extreme Alliance so far, but whilst Sabu is a highly rated figure in wrestling... Kanyon has been in the form of his life lately and will be looking to get a chance to win his first ever WCW gold at Bash at the Beach

This is a really intense match with Kanyon on fire but Sabu matching him for large parts of it. This match gets a lot of time and the commentators even mention at the 10 minute mark that all matches on Nitro, save for the main event, have a time limit of 15 minutes and this match could well go the distance

But not too long after that Sabu makes a mistake and Kanyon manages to capitalise on it. He hits the Flatliner and then goes to go for the pin when-

WCW Shawn Stasiak 4th Theme Song - "Stasiak Theme" (With Tron) (youtube.com)

Wait a minute says Tony.

What's Stasiak doing out here??

Stasiak and Kanyon had an agreement not to get in each other's way tonight, Kanyon stuck to that agreement during Stasiak's match, Stasiak lost anyway but that wasn't anything to do with Kanyon!

Stasiak stands at the entrance way and Kanyon is super hot! He's facing him down from the ring asking WTF he thinks he's doing.

But wait!

Sabu grabs Kanyon's trunks for the roll-up!

1-2-3!

SABU STEALS IT!

Sabu wins via pinfall - (11.20) - (57 rated)

Sabu celebrates and gets out of the ring and through the crowd before Kanyon can grab him.

Kanyon looks shell-shocked!

Stasiak at the top of the entrance way is laughing his ass off.

Kanyon blows up and gets of the ring and runs after Stasiak.

Buff Bagwell vs The Sandman (next week live on Nitro!)
Fit Finlay vs Tommy Dreamer (next week live on Nitro!)

The announcers mention that it's all down to Buff Bagwell and Fit Finlay next week as WCW have really not done well against The Extreme Alliance so far... and what kind of condition will Finlay be in after the clothesline he took from 'Dr Death' tonight???

--

Rob Van Dam backstage with Terry Funk and 'The Fallen Angel' Christopher Daniels having just watched the match with Bill Alfonso

Bill says what a win for Sabu and the Extreme Alliance!

Rob Van Dam says it's a shame for WCW but a great opportunity for those guys and Sabu

Daniels says to RVD he thinks Van Dam should team with Funk next week against Team Canada, Funk is a legend and his experience will see them through

Funk says it should be Daniels. Daniels is the future of the company he can have the energy and the difference to get the job done

RVD says he thinks they're both great performers at different stages in their career, hell they can rock paper scissors or play cards for it as far as he cares...

Bill Alfonso pipes in that RVD should be worried about defending the United States Championship... Storm is a great wrestler and they could get in some damage against him before the PPV match next week on Nitro. Whoever teams with him needs to be on their game! Alfonso starts enthusiastically blowing his whistle!

Funk and Daniels say they're not scared and Daniels says he will team with RVD next week! RVD high fives him and Funk gives him encouragement.

We come back from commercial break for the main event

Main Event / Match 8:

DDP & Harlem Heat (Booker T & Stevie Ray) vs Scott Hall and b.w.o (Blue Meanie and Nova) (with Blueberg)

WCW DDP Theme Song Self High Five (youtube.com)

Harlem Heat WCW Theme (youtube.com)

WWE - bWo Theme (youtube.com)

The New World Order (NWO) Theme Song (youtube.com)

Booker T, Stevie Ray and DDP are all up for this match after Scott Hall's disrespect earlier in the show, but he refuses to start the match and makes Blue Meanie start it.

Blue Meanie gets taken apart by a combination of all 3 of the other team, he ends up managing to tag in Nova who puts in a hell of a shift looking good against Booker and Stevie Ray but DDP gets in and hits a Diamond Cutter on him and he looks out for the count. DDP very nearly gets a 3 count on him... Scott Hall doesn't bother trying to get into the match, Blue Meanie just makes the save at the last second.

DDP gets up, drags Nova to the corner and demands Scott Hall tags himself in so they can fight.

Scott Hall refuses to tag himself in and actually jumps off the apron to the floor. DDP gesticulates with him when Nova rolls him up for a quick pin!

Nova only gets a 1 count though.

DDP gets back to wrestling Nova and eventually tags in Booker T who dominates him.

Scott Hall gets back on the apron and manages to tag in Scott Hall against Scott's will.

The crowd gets excited as Scott Hall is now required to get in and fight Booker T, but Scott Hall just jumps down from the apron and walks off.

The referee ends up counting him out after he refuses to take part in the match.

DDP & Harlem Heat win via countout (10.15) - (66 rated)

Scott Hall looks nonplussed at the entrance way as DDP and Harlem Heat look on furious.

-----

Suddenly we see Kanyon, Mark Jindrak and Shawn Stasiak at the entrance way all brawling. DDP rushes out to help his friend Kanyon against Jindrak and Stasiak.

For the Love of Money (youtube.com)

Shane McMahon comes out and tells everyone to stop

Shane McMahon says this stuff with Kanyon/DDP and Stasiak/Jindrak has gone on too long and between the pair of them they've given The Extreme Alliance two extra shots at the FXtreme Television Championship at Bash at the Beach! Next week it will be DDP/Kanyon vs Stasiak/Jindrak

And then Shane says to Scott Hall what he's done in the main event tonight might have washed in the old WCW, but not under a McMahon damn it! He says Scott Hall will lose his appearance fee for Nitro tonight! Scott Hall looks angry. Shane says he might have had a contract stipulation that he got a shot at the WCW World Heavyweight Championship but it didn't stipulate when!

Shane says next week in the main event it will be Harlem Heat vs Scott Hall and whichever member of the b.w.o he fancies teaming with and to motivate him if he refuses to take part in that match like tonight then he will be OUT of the main event at Bash at the Beach!

  • 2 weeks later...

image.png.3004d14d2c38d8a3f7f46ef92bfc2ce2.png

WCW and FX have confirmed that the episode of Nitro after Bash at the Beach, Wednesday 25th July 2001, will be the 1st of around 4 "quarterly breaks" throughout the year, with this one being the summer break.

Nitro itself will still air with highlights of the first 3 months of the Shane McMahon era of WCW. It is thought these quarterly breaks are in equal part to give Shane McMahon a solid 4 weeks of time "off" to recharge and also for the talent to have scheduled time off and break from competition.

There are many within the industry who feel this is a mistake in the age of content being King, but this is obviously a change in how WWF under Vince McMahon does things and it is felt it could make fans more likely to tune in to the next episode as it is to get them to stop watching. The main advantage is that along with working less house shows than WWF (WCW currently only work house-shows on Mondays, or Tuesdays on the week after a PPV) having 4 scheduled weeks off each calendar year could be another selling point when trying to convince both in and outside of ring talent to sign for WCW over WWF.

Nitro Episode 12:

Wednesday 18 July 2001

Live late-night on FX

7,837 crowd from Albuquerque, New Mexico

Announcers: Tony Schiavone, Scott Hudson & Arn Anderson

-------

Show opens up with Linkin Park's 'Runaway'

Runaway - Linkin Park (Hybrid Theory) (youtube.com)

Tony Schiavone on comms, says it's Wednesday night folks and you know what that means! We're here for Nitro live in New Mexico!

We're starting off hot tonight as we have the WCW United States Champion, Rob Van Dam, in tag team action alongside the young 'Fallen Angel' Christopher Daniels as they take on Team Canada!

-----

Match 1:

Rob Van Dam (with Bill Alfonso) & 'The Fallen Angel' Christopher Daniels (with Terry Funk) vs Team Canada (Lance Storm & Mike Awesome) (with Carl Ouellet)

WWE Rob Van Dam 1st Theme "Van Daminator" (HQ) (youtube.com)

Lance Storm WCW Titantron - "Team Canada" (youtube.com)

The announcers hype up that RVD and Lance Storm will go 1 on 1 for RVD's WCW United States Championship this Sunday at Bash at the Beach live from California

This match gets a decent amount of time with all 4 guys getting some time to shine.

Terry Funk and the animated Bill Alfonso clash at ringside with Carl Ouellet the new addition to Team Canada.

The match ends when RVD who is the legal man gets distracted by Bill Alfonso who gets taken out by Carl Ouellet who is annoyed by his constant whistling and shouting at ringside. RVD runs and jumps from the ring to the outside clearing out Carl Ouellet. However after taking out Daniels and Funk, Mike Awesome manages to hit an Awesome Bomb on Rob Van Dam through the timekeeper's table at ringside. Awesome then pulls RVD up and  gets him into the ring.

RVD eventually stumbles to his feet, Awesome neutralises Daniels and then Lance Storm hits a massive Super-Kick on RVD before getting the 1-2-3!!

Team Canada wins via pinfall - (9.52) - (75 rated)

Oh my! says Tony. A huge win for Team Canada and what momentum Lance Storm has going into Bash at the Beach with a pinfall victory over Rob Van Dam his opponent for the WCW United States Championship. That's the first time anyone has pinned or submitted Rob Van Dam himself since he joined WCW.

------

Bill Alfonso manages to get into the ring and is looking very worried as RVD doesn't look in a good way.

Meanwhile, Terry Funk has grabbed a mic. Funk says Awesome thinks he's smart trying to take out Rob Van Dam before the PPV for his buddy, or "boss" who knows what your relationship is... well me and Daniels here aren't gonna let you pull any funny business at Bash at the Beach!

Awesome shrugs as if to say are you going to stop me?!

Terry Funk then puts out the challenge to Mike Awesome and Carl Ouellet at Bash at the Beach... Funk says if Awesome and Ouellet are man enough... let it be... Mike Awesome and Carl Ouellet vs Terry Funk and Christopher Daniels in a TABLES ELIMINATION MATCH!!!

Oh brother! says Tony. You can't fault Terry Funk for his bravery says Arn Anderson. Is it bravery or stupid asks Scott Hudson?!

Awesome and Ouellet gesture to accept!

Tony adds on commentary, well I'm getting word from Shane McMahon that he's happy with that too... it's official... at Bash at the Beach it will be Awesome & Ouellet vs Funk and Daniels in a Tables Elimination match!

Shane McMahon, Fit Finlay, Eric Bischoff and Johnny Ace in Shane McMahon's office

We come in mid-conversation. Finlay looks hot and agitated.

"Shane, son, when have I ever let ya down? I don't care what some quack doctor says... I'm fine to compete tonight and I'll beat Tommy Dreamer no questions asked"

Eric Bischoff butts in and tells Finlay this is more important than his pride. 4 WCW stars have lost to Extreme Alliance members already. We need some WCW guys in that match at Bash at the Beach to make sure none of them get a contract or WCW championship belt!

Johnny Ace suggests that 'Dr Death' Steve Williams is on a hell of a run... they could swap Finlay out for him...

Finlay goes bezerk and says no way! You trusted me Shane, you still trust me right, son?

Shane agrees he does, but this is an important problem and he says he didn't exactly think every WCW guy would lose... our problem is we're fighting among ourselves when they're the real enemy, Shane adds. I shouldn't reward 'Dr Death' with a spot in the match for taking out Finlay last week. Shane says if Fit thinks he's okay to fight then he'll let him fight... but he could always talk to Nick Patrick and-

Fit Finlay gets even more annoyed!

You think I don't get enough heat from the boys in the back already, son? I'm a road agent and one of the boys? And now you're talking about some kind of screw job, huh? No, I'd never live it down, I don't care if Dreamer is one of the boys or not, I'll beat him my way, you'll see.

Harlem Heat Segment (with Sharmell)

Booker T and Stevie Ray, with Sharmell, in the back talking over the match tonight. Stevie Ray says Scott Hall is everything wrong with WCW... he's part of the reason why it went down the toilet to start with I can't stand that he's in the title picture... but tonight... I'mma help you put him out of that title picture... by the time we're finished with him tonight Book, he ain't gonna be a factor at Bash at the Beach this Sunday!

Booker T says he don't care if he shows up tonight or at the PPV or not, there ain't nobody on this WCW roster, hell in this business, who is gonna take the WCW World Heavyweight Championship off my waist! Now can you dig that sucka?!?!?

Match 2:

Chavo Guerrero Jr vs Psychosis (with Super Crazy)

Road Warriors Theme Song (youtube.com)

The WCW World Tag Team Champions, Road Warrior Animal and Dog come out to be on commentary for this match scouting one of their opponents for the PPV match at the weekend.

Mexicools - theme and Titantron Video (youtube.com)

Psychosis comes out with Super Crazy and Juvi alongside him.

Quick Psychosis pre recorded promo before the match where he says he is going to teach Chavo a lesson after him and Buff Enuff took liberties with the MexiCruisers 2 weeks ago on Nitro. Psychosis says he's going to beat him up real and and hopes that puts him in bad shape for Bash at the Beach for Juvi's match with him!

WCW Chavo Guerrero Last Theme (youtube.com)

Chavo comes out and smiles at Juvi at the outside. Juvi cussing him out.

The match itself is a high-flying match with both guys looking quite good. For the first 4-5 minutes it's a fairly even contest without anything too dodgy, but then Chavo gets out the ring and starts arguing with Super Crazy. Juventud rushes over from the other side of the ring to try and get involved, the ref immediately starts shouting at Juvi to not get involved in the match, he's not looking at Super Crazy or Chavo when Chavo throws the steel steps aside from the ring post and pretends like Super Crazy has thrown him into them.

The ref has a look after hearing the noise, seeing Chavo pretend to be in agony and he decides to eject Super Crazy from the match. Super Crazy is not happy, Juvi is not happy, the ref tells them both to get out of there. They reluctantly leave. Psychosis starts arguing with the ref too when Chavo miraculously recovers, slides into the ring and catches Psychosis by surprise with a few strikes before hitting the Gory Bomb for the win.

Chavo Guerrero wins via pinfall - (6.51) - (63 rated)

After the match we see Super Crazy and Juventud at the entrance way looking on not happy at all with what has happened. Juvi gestures as if to say I'll see you on Sunday at the PPV! Chavo gestures with his waist as if to say your title is mine!

The Road Warriors come off commentary and stare down the MexiCruisers holding up their belts as if to say "are you ready for us??"

DDP and Kanyon promo

Kanyon rants about how last week Shawn Stasiak screwed him out of his big moment in the sun as at Bash at the Beach he would've won his first ever WCW championship belt, but Stasiak out of pure jealously decided to screw him over! He stuck to his word with Stasiak that he wouldn't get involved in Stasiak's match, but Stasiak lost all by himself because of his girl!

Kanyon says last week you stole from me the opportunity to make a name for myself on the big stage... well tonight I'll make a name for myself by the mess I leave you in the middle of the ring!

DDP says he's also looking to make a statement to the boys at the back ahead of Bash at the Beach. He's got a big title match with Booker T and Scott Hall.. it's his chance to be a 4 time champion and it's not one he intends to let slip up!

Real Talk with Roddy interview backstage with Shane Helms

Piper is asking Shane Helms what his plans for the future are now. He's lost the WCW World Cruiserweight Championship and fallen down the pecking order there, obviously he's put 3 Count behind him after the match a few weeks ago where he beat them teaming with Billy Kidman. Unfortunately for Shane it seems that Kidman wasn't interested in going into the tag team division. What's next for Shane Helms?

Shane says it's been a rough few weeks for him. Losing the WCW World Cruiserweight Championship at The Great American Bash was a big blow for him, he's pleased to put the silly 3 Count stuff behind him, but it was a real blow that Kidman didn't want to team with him.

Roddy says, hey, I've heard it was to do with his girl. Something like he thought you were trying to team with him to get closer to Torrie? Is that the truth of it, kid?

Shane says he doesn't know where those rumours came from. He said that must be Billy's own insecurities but he doesn't hold anything against the guy, Torrie is a beautiful woman and hell, if she was my fiancée you can bet your ass I'd be paranoid too having her in the locker-room with all the boys around all the time.

Roddy says so just to clarify you weren't tryin to hit on Torrie, no? You didn't want a little tag team action with Billy and her at all?

Shane says of course not no... no I wasn't looking for anything like that with Torrie at all-

Suddenly from off camera Kidman comes charging in and starts beating up on Helms. He throws Helms into a set wall where the interview was taking place.

"KEEP MY FIANCEE'S NAME OUT OF YOUR MOUTH!!"

Torrie Wilson comes running into set pleading with Kidman to stop this and he's being crazy.

Roddy Piper says, well Billy boy, looks to me like you're a bit jealous of Shane Helms here... I reckon you've got yourself a bit of an inferiority complex going on.

Billy looks massively taken aback.

Shane Helms still recovering on the floor.

Kidman says... I can beat this punk b**** any night of the week! You put as in a 1-on-1 match and I will win every time!

Piper laughs mockingly and says is that so?

Piper says to Shane Helms on the ground who still looks in a bad way, how about it kid... at Bash at the Beach... you get yourselves a chance to prove this guy wrong.

Helms mumbles to say he agrees.

Kidman says alright, fine then.

Tony on commentary says well we've heard from Shane McMahon that's official now... at Bash at the Beach it will be Billy Kidman vs Shane Helms!

Match 3:

Fit Finlay (with Dave Taylor & Tajiri) vs Tommy Dreamer - WCW FXtreme Television Championship qualifying match for Bash at the Beach

Finlay's 2006 v2 Titantron Entrance Video feat. "Lambeg v2" Theme [HD] (youtube.com)

ECW Classic/Original Theme Song (youtube.com)

Dave Taylor comes out with Finlay and sits at the announce desk to be on commentary for the match whilst Tajiri who also comes out with Finlay stands at ringside.

The announcers mention how Finlay doesn't look 100 percent after taking a massive clothesline from 'Dr Death' Steve Williams last week but he insisted on coming out to compete in this match. Tony mentions how he thinks 'Dr Death' may well have been a better pick in this match from a WCW perspective at The Great American Bash, but Arn Anderson says he's sure either way Tommy Dreamer won't go into this match expecting an easy match with Fit.

Tommy Dreamer comes out through the crowd and stares down Tajiri before entering the ring with Finlay.

This match is more of a brawl than a wrestling match with both guys hitting and striking each other hard throughout. Dave Taylor defends Finlay, but Arn Anderson points out that whilst he admires Finlay's fighting spirit there is a fine line between brave and stupid and he thinks Finlay's strategy of getting into a slogging match when he was clearly carrying a neck injury is pretty stupid.

Tajiri tries to interfere at one point but Dreamer manages to nail him before he can get to him. Finlay tries to get a sly roll-up and despite it looking like the ref is counting quicker than usual, Dreamer manages to kick out and then hits a Dreamer Driver. It looks like the ref counts slower than normal but Dreamer still gets the 1-2-3.

Tommy Dreamer wins via pinfall - (6.10) - (55 rated)

Tommy Dreamer celebrates after the win, with Tajiri and Dave Taylor coming to help Finlay out of the ring.

Buff Bagwell vs The Sandman (later tonight on Nitro!)

The announcers mention that it's now somehow 5-1 to the Extreme Alliance and WCW just has Buff Bagwell left who they're relying on to even get a participant in the match for the championship and to prevent an Extreme Alliance member from getting a WCW contract.

-------

JJ Dillon interview with Buff Bagwell (with Buffy Daddy V)

JJ Dillon says well Buff after that match it seems all of WCW's hopes are left with you tonight and potentially at Bash at the Beach, what do you think-

Buff Bagwell says well first of all JJ I don't like your tone. Potentially at Bash at the Beach? Potentially? You're looking at the Buffest man in the business today... Buff Bagwell vs The Sandman from Extremely Crappy Wrestling?! There ain't no potentially about it! To the WCW locker-room and fans I guarantee victory not only tonight but at Bash at the Beach too!

JJ Dillon says many fans will be questioning your confidence after your loss to The FBI in tag team competition last week on Nitro, do you have-

Buff Bagwell says there are a few people in the back who will get their comeuppance sooner rather than later. Johnny Stamboli thinks he can smash Buff Daddy V with a chair several times and live to tell the tale?? Viscera looks menacingly at the camera.

And Curt Hennig... Curt the way I see it... this was all your fault. You want to start something with me? You want to start something with Buff Daddy V??

You don't know who you're messing with Curt! And I spoke to Shane McMahon earlier tonight... you know what he said Curt? If you or the FBI or anyone else decide to interfere with my match tonight with Sandman then you'll all be FIRED!!!!

'Sinister' James Mitchell says Akira Hokuto is more than happy to treat the young Meiko a less at Bash at the Beach

Meiko gets annoyed at this and on the mic she says "At Bash at the Beach... I WILL BEAT YOU...BITCH!!!"

James Mitchell and Ricky Steamboat have to get in the middle of them to prevent them from fighting before the contract is signed.

Eric Bischoff theme

Eric Bischoff comes out. Sable is furious. Bischoff says this is the go home show to Bash at the Beach... they've got more matches planned tonight... Sable needs to hurry things up!

Match 4:

Air Raid (AJ Styles & Air Paris) vs Sean O'Haire & Chuck Palumbo (with 'Sinister' James Mitchell)

AJ Styles Theme (Old Theme) (youtube.com)

The announcers mention last week the challenge was put to AJ Styles to find a partner to team up with against Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo and it seems he's found one in Air Paris. Paris and Styles have teamed a bit before in WCW and NWA Wildside so we have a return to competition on national television for Air Raid tonight and a match in which they are huge underdogs against the former WCW World Tag Team Champions in Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo.

Chuck Palumbo & Sean O'Haire 2001 - "Freestyle Hombre" WWE WCW Entrance Theme (youtube.com)

O'Haire and Palumbo come out for the first time with Mitchell. O'Haire looks up for the match, Palumbo does too but he looks wary of Mitchell.

The match starts off well for them with O'Haire dominating Paris. Once AJ Styles comes into the match his aerial ability and speed causes O'Haire some problems but he tags in Palumbo. Palumbo's power and tenacity means he makes light work of AJ Styles, however just as he's dominating Mitchell shouts something to him at ringside. Palumbo is asking what he's on about, he's doing fine, when out of nowhere Styles hits a drop-kick on O'Haire and then after a quick strike on Palumbo he gets a roll-up on Palumbo and out of nowhere scores a shock 1-2-3!!!

Air Raid win via pinfall - (3.43) - (49 rated)

The announcers hype up this huge upset victory with AJ Styles and Air Raid celebrating.

O'Haire and Mitchell are furious at ringside. Chuck Palumbo looks more shocked than anything else.

O'Haire looks to take his frustration out on Air Raid but they've got out of there before gets the chance.

Shawn Stasiak (with Stacy Keibler) and Mark Jindrak promo

Stasiak and Jindrak cut a promo on DDP and Kanyon ahead of their match later tonight

Stasiak said he doesn't understand why Kanyon is so wound up about him interfering in his match with Sabu last week. Sure, he agreed with Kanyon not to interfere in their matches last week... and if he'd made it to Bash at the Beach for the match for the WCW FXtreme Television Championship then he wouldn't have got involved... but Stasiak says he didn't make it, so the way he saw it if he can't have it then neither can Kanyon!

Jindrak says Kanyon shouldn't be winning a WCW championship singles title before Stasiak and Stasiak agrees.

Stasiak says he lost his match due to a bit of miscommunication with Stacy, but they've sorted that out. Stacy pipes in that it wasn't her fault. This seems to wind Stasiak up a bit but he channels that anger to DDP and Kanyon.

Stasiak says people call him a hypocrite for getting involved in the match after saying that he wouldn't, but Kanyon and DDP are a bunch of hypocrites too. Oh yeah, in the last few months, DDP & Kanyon have been the best of friends.  You see, the way I remember it, for the last year or so before Shane McMahon bought WCW you weren't friends at all, in-fact you were pretending to be DDP. You copied his gimmick, copied his finisher... so it all seems real convenient you're suddenly best buds when Nitro comes back on air.

You see DDP... the way I see it... Kanyon knows by himself he is nothing. By himself Shane McMahon, Eric Bischoff, ain't nobody in the back in a position of authority who is going to back for Kanyon as the future of this company... but by latching onto DDP suddenly Kanyon propels himself into main events and top level feuds... well DDP... I think you should watch out for Kanyon... if you can't see that he's using you then that's a you problem... but tonight I'll show you that either way it's Shawn Stasiak and Mark Jindrak that are the future of this company and not DDP and Kanyon!

Finlay has a mic and he says he thinks 'Dr Death' and Windham & Rotunda will probably say no as they look like a bunch of no good cowards... but Finlay says since the traitor 'Dr Death' has ensured neither he or Tajiri will fight for the WCW FXtreme Television Championship at Bash at the Beach... Finlay would still like a fight... and the way he sees it... there's 3 of us and there's 3 of you... what do you say?!

'Dr Death' gets a mic of his own and angrily proclaims that at Bash at the Beach he'll make Finlay hate to fight!!

JJ Dillon interview with Scott Hall

JJ Dillon interviews Scott Hall ahead of the main event, he asks him how he felt to lose his appearance fee for Nitro last week for his actions in the main event?

Scott Hall says Hey yo JJ I'm already guaranteed so much money that the appearance fee is just chicken feed anyway... I'm not bothered, it happens.

JJ looks annoyed but then says well surely you're concerned as Shane has said if you don't take part in the main event tonight you're out of the match for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship at Bash at the Beach?

Scott Hall says he's not concerned... does he want to win the title, sure? But Shane has spent weeks advertising a triple threat featuring him for the title at the PPV... given how much the PPV buys seemed to drop off last time it would be pretty dumb to take the biggest star in the roster out of the main event for the next one.

JJ asks who he will team with from the b.w.o tonight?

Scott Hall says look I won't lie to you JJ I don't think it really matters, whether it's that fat midget gem, vanilla midget or midget Goldberg... but that Nora

JJ Dillon corrects him saying Nova

Thanks JJ, yeah that Nova, says Scott, he ain't so bad for one of those outlaw mudshow wrestlers so he's my pick yo... see you in the main event... and yo Shawn Stasiak, Mark Jindrak, I'm sure you won't need any extra motivation... but if you can do The Bad Guy a favour and give DDP a nasty injury in the match tonight... I'll make it financially very worth your while...

Match 6:

Buff Bagwell (with Buff Daddy V) vs The Sandman - WCW FXtreme Television Championship qualifying match for Bash at the Beach

WCW Buff Bagwell 4th Theme Song - "Buff Daddy" (With Tron) (youtube.com)

ECW Classic/Original Theme Song (youtube.com)

The announcers mention how Buff Bagwell said earlier tonight if Curt Hennig or The FBI get involved in this match they face being sacked as Shane McMahon is seemingly desperate to get at least 1 WCW representative in that match for the WCW FXtreme Television Championship at Bash at the Beach. So far 5 out of 6 of the Extreme Alliance have gotten victories... can The Sandman make it 6 for 6?

The Sandman certainly looks up for it in the ring. Buff looks a bit intimidated by him but also confident in himself.

Sandman tries to turn the match into a brawl and Buff Bagwell is on the defensive for large chunks of the match. Buff Daddy V gets a bit involved at one point and whilst Sandman manages to clatter him off the apron, it helps Bagwell get into the match a bit more albeit The Sandman is still largely on the offense and he lines Buff up for a Russian Legsweep finish, but Buff just about manages to counter and he puts Sandman into a Chokehold sleeper.

Within 2 seconds of Sandman being in the hold the referee calls for the bell.

Buff Bagwell wins via submission - (4.51) - (52 rated)

------

Alright! says Arn. Finally a win for WCW!

But wait a minute, says Tony, did Sandman tap out there?

In the ring The Sandman is arguing with the referee about what happened. He says he clearly didn't tap out or get choked out. Sandman slides out of the ring, dodges Buff Daddy V, grabs his Singapore Cane and threatens Buff Daddy V before grabbing a mic.

The Sandman on the mic calls out Shane McMahon and says it's another McMahon screwjob! Shane clearly never intended to let a member of the Extreme Alliance get a contract or win the WCW FXtreme Television Championship and so he's fixed it so that he didn't get to the PPV... well he says clearly the guys at the PPV will get screwed over too...

For the Love of Money (youtube.com)

Shane McMahon comes out and tells Sandman all of that alcohol and drugs must be catching up with him... the referee through he submitted and the referee's decision is final... if he had been looking to screw over the Extreme Alliance he could've got the referees in all of the over matches to do the same but he clearly didn't do that so Sandman is obviously paranoid

Sandman is furious. Shane says Sandman can leave with his head held high or he can have security drag him out kicking and screaming.

Sandman tells Shane that this is not over...

Steve Corino defeated Stevie Ray
Axl Rotten defeated Tajiri
Balls Mahoney defeated Shawn Stasiak
Sabu defeated Kanyon
Tommy Dreamer defeated Fit Finlay
Buff Bagwell defeated The Sandman

The announcers hype up the 6 man match for the vacant title at the PPV this Sunday. Buff Bagwell the sole WCW represenatative will have some task on his hands to prevent a member of the Extreme Alliance from getting a WCW contract and championship belt...

DDP & Kanyon vs Shawn Stasiak (with Stacy Keibler) & Mark Jindrak

WCW DDP Theme Song Self High Five (youtube.com)

WCW Chris Kanyon 2nd Theme (youtube.com)

DDP and Kanyon get jumped by Shawn Stasiak and Mark Jindrak before they even complete their way to the ring. The 4 begin brawling as the announcers wonder if Stasiak and Jindrak have been influenced by the extra motivation of Scott Hall suggesting that he'll give them a bonus from his own pocket if they can do some serious damage to DDP tonight.

The 4 brawl for a good few minutes before they even get in the ring when the referee starts the match.

It soon descends into chaos once again though with DDP even getting a Diamond Cutter on Mark Jindrak on the entrance ramp which really seems to take Jindrak out.

The referee eventually has no choice but to call it a draw via a double count-out

The match ends a draw via double count-out - (4.32) - (58 rated)

Kanyon looks frustrated as he's not really dished out as much punishment onto Stasiak as he would've liked. Kanyon grabs a mic as Shawn Stasiak looks to make a getaway with the injured looking Mark Jindrak.

Kanyon puts the challenge to Shawn Stasiak... he says at Bash at the Beach... he doesn't want a wrestling match... he wants a fight... so at Bash at the Beach... how about it... Kanyon vs Shawn Stasiak... in a California Street Fight!!!

Stasiak looks initially a bit worried but then accepts!

Buff Bagwell opens next to Buff Daddy V

Buff looks annoyed at seeing Hennig. He tells him to go away. Hennig says whilst he congratulates Buff on the obviously above board victory against Sandman tonight... it's not Buff Bagwell who he's here to speak to. Bagwell acts surprised, why else would you be here??

Hennig says he wishes Bagwell all the best at the PPV... and since he can't face Buff himself... Hennig puts out a challenge to Buff Daddy V! Hennig says at Bash at the Beach he's got a point to prove and who better to prove it against than the biggest man on the roster?!

Buff Daddy V immediately steps forward and says he accepts and at Bash at the Beach he will crush Curt Hennig! Buff Bagwell laughs and says Hennig must be stupider than he looks.

Tony Schiavone, Scott Hudson and Arn Anderson at the announce desk.

Schiavone reminds viewers that as part of WCW's ongoing deal with FX that Nitro will not be "live" next Monday as it is the WCW roster's summer break. So for that 1 week the show will be a special highlights replay of Bash at the Beach at the usual time instead.

Tony adds that at Bash at the Beach the WCW owner Shane McMahon has a special announcement about the future of WCW on FX that he's sure will have fans very excited.

Main Event / Match 8:

Harlem Heat (Booker T & Stevie Ray) with Sharmell vs Scott Hall & Nova (with Blue Meanie)

WCW DDP Theme Song Self High Five (youtube.com)

DDP comes out for commentary for the match scouting ahead of the Triangle match for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship at Bash at the Beach

Harlem Heat WCW Theme (youtube.com)

The New World Order (NWO) Theme Song (youtube.com)

Booker T and Stevie Ray come out to the ring first with Sharmell. Booker T with the Big Gold Belt sizes up DDP at commentary before heading to the ring with his brother.

Scott Hall comes out next with an excited looking Nova and Blue Meanie. Scott Hall looks fairly unimpressed to be out there with them. DDP on commentary slams Scott Hall for offering Shawn Stasiak and Mark Jindrak money to hurt him, he thought they were friends, even if they are rivals in the ring the depths Hall has gone to is a disgrace. Tony mentions he wonders if Nova and Blue Meanie ever thought in ECW when they were parodying the NWO if one day they'd actually be coming out with him to the NWO entrance music for a main event match on Nitro.

This match gets just under 10 minutes and it's a great affair with all 4 guys involved to some extent. Nova looks a bit out of his depth in the ring with these guys but he does his best and has some good high-flying moves at various points. Scott Hall tactically tags himself out whenever it looks like Booker T might get involved but eventually Nova has to make a hot tag to Scott Hall who can't avoid getting in the ring due to the threat of being taken out of the match at Bash at the Beach.

Hall takes out Stevie Ray who is the legal man and then delivers a thunderous right hook to Booker T on the apron who crashes into Blue Meanie on the outside taking them both out. Scott Hall then manages to get Stevie Ray in the Razor's Edge. He then gets the 1-2-3.

Scott Hall & Nova win via pinfall - (9.51) - (77 rated)

-----

After the match Booker T grabs a mic and says Scott Hall might have got lucky tonight but at Bash at the Beach he WILL retain the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.

Nova starts to celebrate with Scott Hall in the ring but Scott Hall punches him and then throws him out the ring at Booker's direction.

Hall shouts that at Bash at the Beach he'll put Booker down like this jobber!

DDP has a mic of his own at the top of the ramp and says both of you would be wise not to forget me... DDP! At Bash at the Beach I'm gonna put that Big Gold Belt back where it belongs... on MY WAIST!!!

The show ends with the 3 of them staring off.

WCW Bash at the Beach 2001

Sunday 22 July 2001

Live on PPV

38,000 crowd in Los Angeles, California

Announcers: Tony Schiavone, Scott Hudson & Arn Anderson

---

Show opens up with blink-182's 'Every Time I Look For You'

Every Time I Look For You (youtube.com)

Tony, Scott and Arn welcome fans to Bash at the Beach LIVE FROM LOS ANGELES!!!

Tony mentions the main event that will see champion Booker T put his title on the line in a triangle match with DDP and 'The Bad Guy' Scott Hall.

We see Booker T with the WCW World Heavyweight Championship arriving at the arena with Sharmell earlier in the day. DDP stretching backstage ahead of the match with Kanyon.

And we have LIVE footage of Scott Hall arriving at the arena here tonight.

We see a black Bentley with tinted out windows pull up. Scott Hall gets out of the card and says to the driver "Hey yo, Jimmy, park her up... but I want you ready for the main event for my big entrance."

We don't see the driver, who flicks out a cigarette out the window and then drives off.

Match 1:

Team Canada (Mike Awesome & Carl Oullet) vs Terry Funk and 'The Fallen Angel' Christopher Daniels - Tables Elimination Match

Well folks, Tony says, this match has been the culmination of several months of various members of Team Canada, most notably Lance Storm himself challenging for Rob Van Dam's WCW United States Championship later tonight, and Mike Awesome, who have had all sorts of problems with Funk, Daniels and Van Dam.

Storm beat Funk at Big Bang, but Terry Funk wasn't done with Team Canada by a long shot as he helped put Mike Awesome out of the War Games match at The Great American Bash forcing Shane McMahon to compete instead which many say contributed to Team WCW's loss to The Extreme Alliance.

Christopher Daniels, the rookie at least in national television wrestling, has been involved in this too sticking up for Funk who he quite rightfully sees as a legend of the business... Daniels the victim of a brutal assault by Team Canada missed more than 5 weeks of action as a result of Mike Awesome's brutality and he'll certainly be looking to get some payback tonight.

The rules of this match are it is essentially a tornado tag team match with no disqualifications and if your opponent puts you through a table you are eliminated from the match. It is an elimination match so the winners will be the team who still have at least 1 member still in the match by the end. It could be that one team eliminates both members of the other team or we could have a sole survivor situation.

Lance Storm WCW Titantron - "Team Canada" (youtube.com)

Awesome and Oullet make their way to the ring both carrying a table each

Terry Funk - Theme (youtube.com)

Funk comes out with Daniels and they both have tables of their own.

The 4 clash in the ring to start the match without any tables yet being assembled.

The match is more of a brawl than anything else which favours the bigger guys in Mike Awesome and Carl Oullet

Eventually we get to a point where several tables have been put up in the ring and on the outside.

The first elimination we get is when Terry Funk tries to spear Mike Awesome through a prone table against a turnbuckle, but Awesome manages to dodge it meaning Funk spears himself through the table and effectively eliminates himself from the match.

This puts Daniels into a very difficult position as it's now effectively a handicap match.

However he gets an opening when he drop-kicks Awesome off the apron. Awesome manages to avoid landing through a table but is briefly out of action. Daniels gets the better of Oullet with an Inzaguri that has Oullet prone on a table... Daniels then goes up to the top and hits a Best Moonsault Ever to eliminate Oullet!

This gets the crowd excited as the chance of an upset could be on the cards now that Christopher Daniels is just 1 on 1 with Awesome.

Awesome gets back into the match and his strength and size advantage helps him out, but that doesn't stop Daniels from trying to use his superior speed and agility to try and upset the big man on the big stage.

Daniels manages to go on a hot run and he manages to set it up so after an Inzaguri on Awesome he may be able to eliminate him the same way he did to Oullet! Daniels goes up for yet another moonsault... but wait! Awesome was playing possum, he gets up straight away and with Daniels back turned he manages to set him up for the Awesome Bomb!

Mike Awesome hits a huge Awesome Bomb on Daniels through the table and it's Team Canada who have the win!

Team Canada wins with Mike Awesome as the sole survivor - (6.44) - (53 rated)

JJ Dillon live with Lance Storm in the back

JJ says Lance we've just seen your buddies in Team Canada, Mike Awesome and Carl Ouellet, victorious against Terry Funk and Christopher Daniels, is this the start of a great night for Team Canada in L.A?

Lance says, if I could be serious for a minute JJ... Awesome and Oullet getting the win tonight was never in doubt... Mike Awesome and Carl Oullet are in the prime of their careers... Terry Funk should have retired, probably has retired like 10 times over by now. Christopher Daniels has got some wins on the independent scene and look I respect him for that... no seriously JJ... I might not like the kid but here's a guy who's wrestled in the independents of the United States, he's gone to Puerto Rico, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom... I'd take a guy like that over one of these body-builders who turn on the TV and one day decide to be a wrestler without paying their dues and learning their craft... but look, Daniels doesn't have experience at the top level... I think tonight was his first PPV match ever? So look was he and a past-it old man ever going to come out on top against Mike and Carl? Of course not, JJ...

But you asked if this is the start of a great night for Team Canada in L.A, I assume you refer to my match later tonight with Rob Van Dam for the WCW United States Championship?

Well yes course says JJ

Storm says tonight he will go down as the greatest 4 time WCW United States Championship in the history of this company

JJ Dillon says well you know Lex Luger is a 4 time WCW United States Championship, you think you're better than him?

Much better! says Storm instantly

What about Canadian hero Bret Hart? He's a 4 time United States champion too, you think you're better than him?

Storm dodges the question but then says he maintains he will become champion for a 4th time and he will once again save the people of the world from the USA's arrogance by making it the WCW Canadian Championship once more...

Match 2:

Billy Kidman (with Torrie Wilson) vs Shane Helms

Tony says on commentary how this match seemed to come around. Kidman and Helms, both involved in a Triangle match for the WCW Cruiserweight Championship at The Great American Bash, Helms lost the title but teamed up with Kidman to see off his old buddies in 3 Count. Helms liked the idea of them becoming a team, Torrie Wilson, Kidman's manager and fiancee, seemed to like the idea too, but perhaps a bit too much for Kidman's liking who not only rejected Helms' offer but attacked him in a jealous rage whilst he was being interviewed by our broadcast colleague Roddy Piper last week on Nitro.

WCW Billy Kidman 4th Theme (1998-2000) (youtube.com)

WCW: "Sugar" Shane Helms [Theme Song] - "Vertebreaker" (youtube.com)

This match as a lot of high-spots with the two putting on a good cruiserweight type match. Kidman wrestles a bit more aggressively than usual due to his anger at Helms. Helms is keen to get some revenge but still seems baffled by Kidman's anger at him.

Towards the end of the match Helms does a dive through the ropes onto Kidman on the outside and in the aftermath Kidman is sent flying into Torrie Wilson who goes down.

Helms is very apologetic, Kidman is furious. Helms is trying to see if Torrie is okay but Kidman smashes his head into the steel ring post. Kidman then throws an injured looking Helms into the ring before hitting an intense looking Shooting Star Press from the top rope to get the win.

Billy Kidman wins via pinfall - (9.43) - (63 rated)

Booker T promo

Booker T with Sharmell and the WCW World Heavyweight Championship cuts a promo about how tonight he proves to the world why he is the future of this company and this business.

Booker says he's still not sure if he can trust DDP but the fact of the matter is tonight they have a common enemy in Scott Hall and he's happy to let bygones be bygones...

Scott Hall... you think you're better than me? Than my brother? Well let me tell you somethin' sucka! I'm a 4 TIME! 4 TIME! 4 TIME! 4 TIME!

4 time, Sharmell adds in

WCW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION continues Booker as he puts a 4 sign up on his hand

Scott Hall... last time I checked you're a no time champion! You think tonight is gonna be your lucky night?? Well you messed with the wrong guy dog!! I've been hit by a car, put through a table by some maniac and much worse in the last few months... am I 100 percent? Of course not... but I don't need to be 100 percent to keep my title tonight! I want to lead this company into the future and maybe I'll become the longest reigning champion in WCW history... tonight my reign will not end!!

Match 3:

'Dr Death' Steve Williams (with Jimmy Hart), Barry Windham & Mike Rotunda vs Fit's Fight Club (Fit Finlay, Dave Taylor and Tajiri)

The announcers hype up this match as a challenge laid down by Fit's Fight Club as in their view "the traitor" Dr Death Steve Williams cost Finlay and Tajiri a chance to win the WCW FXtreme Television Championship later tonight. Tony argues for Steve William stating he's only ever acted in self-defence.

All 6 men get a decent amount of time in this 6 man match. Tajiri and Steve Williams come out of it looking the best, with Steve Williams on the hot-tag towards the end of the match making sure his side get the win in his first PPV match in WCW in the Shane McMahon era.

Real Talk with Roddy segment with Scott Hall

Roddy Piper has Scott Hall for an interview

Piper asks Hall if he's nervous for tonight

Hall says why would I be nervous Roddy?

Piper says Scott Hall has never won the big one... this might be his last chance... he only got this title shot as part of his contract... if he loses tonight that could be it. Piper says Scott, do you know how many people always say, oh boy, Roddy Piper, hell of a wrestler, probably the best wrestler to never win a world championship. Oh boy, Roddy Piper, hell of a talker, hell of a performer, never quite could win the big one though. When I die Scott, my legacy, they'll say Piper, hall of fame talent, but he never won the big one. Take it from me Scott, if you don't win here tonight... that could be your legacy

Scott gets hot. Hall says his legacy in this business is undeniable... Scott Hall joining WCW and the NWO is one of the defining moments of professional wrestling in the hottest era of professional wresting ever... I've won all kinds of belts... I've made all kinds of money... you know how many guys on this roster have won the world title before? Yet who's the top earner in this company... me!

Piper in turn gets hot and says money can't buy you history Scott, remember that...

Scott pauses but then laughs it off and says Roddy, money can buy you all sorts of thing... I got myself a Bentley and hell I got my own driver too... you know, I'm probably paying my driver more than some of these job guys on the roster are making! There's no pressure on The Bad Guy tonight... do I want to go home with the Big Gold Belt? Sure I do, Hot Rod, but the difference between you and me is I ain't gonna be out here retired working interview segments because I didn't make enough money to live comfortably when I can't go in the ring anymore... I want that title because it means it will make me even richer... Scott Hall throws a tooth pick to the camera and then walks off.

Piper looks fuming.

Match 4:

Buff Daddy V vs Curt Hennig

The announcers mention how this match came about from Buff Bagwell mocking Curt Hennig's credentials as a top star in the company. This eventually led to Curt Hennig costing Buff Bagwell and Buff Daddy V a tag team match against rivals of their own, The F.B.I... Curt Hennig would've liked to have a match with Bagwell himself tonight but Bagwell represents WCW in the WCW FXtreme Television Championship match hoping to win the belt and stop any of The Extreme Alliance getting a WCW contract.

Hennig may well come after Bagwell especially if he wins that title tonight, but Hennig will have the biggest man on the roster, Buff Bagwell's right hand man, Buff Daddy V to deal with first...

Tony mentions how Buff Bagwell is conspicuous in his absence from ring-side... Arn Anderson says we need to wrap Buff Bagwell in cotton wall tonight if he's going to win against the Extremely Crappy Alliance I say good on him!

WCW Buff Bagwell 4th Theme Song - "Buff Daddy" (With Tron) (youtube.com)

Curt Hennig 2nd WCW Theme Alternate Version (youtube.com)

Curt Hennig is a hell of a worker but he struggles to get a decent match out of Buff Daddy V in this one. It's aimed at calming the crowd just a little ahead of more intense matches to come, but Curt Hennig still puts on a decent performance himself as tries to get the win over the big man.

It's probably the least perfect looking Perfect Plex you'll ever see, but Curt Hennig pops the crowd at the end of the match when he manages to land a Perfect Plex to get the win.

DDP in the back with Kanyon

DDP cuts a promo saying how tonight is a big night for DDP and Kanyon. Kanyon gets to kick 50 shades of crap out of Shawn Stasiak on the streets of Los Angeles and DDP wins the Big Gold Belt!

Kanyon in street clothes shakes hands with DDP and wishes him luck. Kanyon addresses the camera and says tonight the world learns not to mess with Chris Kanyon!

Match 5:

Kanyon vs Shawn Stasiak (with Mark Jindrak)

Well folks, Tony says, this match came about from an ongoing rivalry between these two men but primarily through Shawn Stasiak's jealously and deception. He made a pact with Kanyon not to get involved in each other's qualifying matches for the WCW FXtreme Television Championship match tonight, Kanyon stuck to his end of the bargain but Shawn Stasiak lost anyway! A bitter Stasiak then interfered in Kanyon's match which cost him the chance to win his first ever title gold in WCW.

It's safe to say Kanyon will be seeking some revenge tonight and I think this one could well be a fight!

WCW Chris Kanyon 2nd Theme (youtube.com)

WCW Shawn Stasiak 4th Theme Song - "Stasiak Theme" (With Tron) (youtube.com)

The announcers point out how both men have come out in street clothes and how Shawn Stasiak appears to have quite wisely left Stacy Keibler in the back as this could get messy.

Kanyon looks annoyed as Shawn Stasiak has brought out Mark Jindrak, but before the match begins DDP comes rushing out and in Mark Jindrak's face telling him he can't be out here. Jindrak doesn't back down and DDP and Jindrak start brawling with DDP eventually getting the upper hand and the fight leads them out the back past the entrance ramp.

The announcers mention how Scott Hall and Booker T will probably be watching on quite pleased that DDP is taking a few punches before the main event.

The match itself between Kanyon and Stasiak quickly descends into a fight. They soon get out of the ring and are fighting on the outside. Stasiak brings a chair into the mix and gets a shot onto Kanyon, but Kanyon manages to get back at him by dodging another shot and then parrying it away.

Kanyon then bundles Stasiak over the announce desk and they take the fight into the crowd. They brawl through the arena as they eventually make it into the concession stand where fans watch on in the hallway as the referee follows with Stasiak eventually putting Kanyon through a pop-corn stand leading to popcorn flying all over the place.

This seems to fire up Kanyon a bit more and he eventually gets back in control of the match as they end up fighting outside of the arena and into the streets outside the venue. They keep fighting some more until they get to what appears to be a bunch of guys selling knock off WCW merch.

Some of the t-shirts appears to be a "WHO BETTER THAN KANYON?!" and Kanyon gets annoyed at the vendor for selling fake merch and profiting off his name. The vendor is apologetic, as Kanyon is arguing with him Stasiak comes from behind looking to spear Kanyon but Kanyon manages to dodge out the way and Stasiak ends up spearing the vendor instead.

Stasiak gets to his feet and Kanyon hits a flatliner on Stasiak on top of the fake WCW merch that's on the ground. The referee then counts the 1-2-3!

Kanyon wins via pinfall - (10.31) - (62 rated)

Eric Bischoff, Johnny Ace and Sable are backstage in Shane's office with Johnny in the middle.

Bischoff and Sable are arguing

Bischoff says Sable is just here to self-promote herself as he says it's narcissistic for her to go out to the crowd to announce the women's match. Sable says she is the only one in this company promoting women's wrestling and providing a voice for the women on the roster... she says Eric is over-reaching... Shane hired her to make WCW the best company for women's wrestling and that's what she's going to do... they've got two of the best Japanese women's wrestlers about to fight it out for the WCW World Women's Championship and if he doesn't like it he can stick it!

Bischoff laughs at her and says it won't be long until Shane sacks off both women's wrestling and Sable!

Sable says you wouldn't talk to me like this if I was a man or if my husband was here!

Bischoff says well what you gonna do Sable?? You're only the General Manager for Women... you can't hire your husband or any other man to come and get in my face. So you're just going to have to take any criticism that comes your way! You can hire a woman, but what woman on earth could stand up to me?!

Johnny Ace steps in and says Eric should calm down.

Sable says whatever and heads off to go out to the crowd.

Bischoff accuses Johnny Ace of being a white knight and that he shouldn't get in his way even as Head of Talent Relations

Johnny Ace gets annoyed at this but Bischoff flips him off and walks off.

Born To Be Wild - YouTube

Sable comes out to announce the match and she sits on commentary with the announcers during the match to hype up the match and both competitors

Akira Hokuto (c) (with 'Sinister' James Mitchell) vs Meiko Satomura for the WCW World Women's Championship

Meiko Satomura - "My Own Destiny" (NXT UK THEME) (youtube.com)

Akira Hokuto 4th - Pacific Zone (WCW Official Theme) (youtube.com)

As Meiko Satomura comes out Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat comes with her to the entrance ramp and gives her a quick good luck before heading off to the back and leaving her to fight it out for herself as he's her mentor rather than out and out manager.

This match gets a decent amount of time with both women showing off what they can do in the ring. Meiko is the underdog given how much more experience Hokuto has but she gives it everything. At one point Meiko is on top of the match and Akira comes out the ring to take a quick breaker, Mitchell speaks to her and seems to give her some advice and when Akira gets back in the ring she adopts a more heelish approach and is more aggressive.

Akira eventually gets the upper hand and gets the win with the Northern Lights Suplex into the pin.

JJ Dillon interview with Rob Van Dam (with Bill Alfonso)

JJ says first of all Rob I'm sure you'll be sad to see your friend Meiko Satomura just miss out on winning the WCW World Women's Championship there?

Rob praises Meiko and says she's got a lot of heart for such a young competitor and he's sure one day she will be a WCW World Women's Champion

Bill Alfonso looks a bit annoyed and blows his whistle. He says Rob we need you to focus on your opponent tonight!

RVD tells him to relax

JJ Dillon says Lance Storm got a pinfall victory over you on Nitro, does that give him the momentum going into this match?

RVD says he doesn't really believe in momentum... Storm got the victory on Nitro, sure, maybe that gives him a bit of confidence going into this match against me... but that doesn't impact my game plan... I've been meditating today and I'm in a good place tonight and I'm ready to kick Storm's ass!

JJ says Lance Storm suggested earlier tonight if he beats you he will rebrand the championship the WCW Canadian Championship again, what do you say to that?

Rob laughs and says it seems a bit presumptuous for Lance to be dreaming about what he's going to do with a title he hasn't even won yet... let me say to all the fans here in LA and across America and the whole world watching tonight... Lance Storm isn't walking out of here with the WCW United States Championship tonight... do you know who is?

Rob then does the pose and says ROB...VAN...DAM!!!

Match 7:

Juventud Guerrera (c) vs Chavo Guerrero Jr for the WCW World Cruiserweight Championship

Well folks, Tony says, this match all coming about after Chavo put out the challenge to Juventud. Juventud stipulating if Chavo and 2 others could beat him and his buddies the MexiCruisers he would give him a shot... it was Chavo teaming up with Buff Enuff, Bagwell and Buff Daddy V which helped Chavo secure this shot. Since then The MexiCruisers and Chavo Guerrero Jr have been at odds with each other... Chavo of course known for lying, cheating and stealing... can he manage to pull off a win tonight? It would be his 3rd time as WCW World Cruiserweight Champion if he can manage it...

WCW Chavo Guerrero Last Theme (youtube.com)

WCW Juventud Guerrera 2nd Theme Song - "Summer Nights In Spain" (With 2nd Tron) (youtube.com)

Super Crazy and Psychosis wish Juvi luck on the entrance ramp but let him get on with the match given they have to prepare for their own shot at the WCW World Tag Team Championships later tonight.

This match gets about 10 minutes and is a little bit more technical than high-flying compared to the Kidman/Helms clash earlier in the night.

Juvi is slightly more aggressive clearly still annoyed at how the ongoing feud with Chavo has gone in the last few weeks. Chavo is calculating and uses Juvi's aggression against him to work his way into the match.

Juvi eventually starts adopting a more high-flying approach and this overwhelms Chavo for a bit. Chavo eventually gets back in the match and after a flurry of offence he gets Juvi in a roll-up and tries to cheat using the ropes to his advantage as he goes to the pin, but the referee catches him!

Chavo is pleading with the referee his innocence when Juvi goes for a roll-up of his own. Juvi takes a trick out of Chavo's book as he uses the rope himself, the referee can't see it due to the change in position in the ring and Juvi gets the win!

Match 8:

The Nu Road Warriors (Road Warrior Animal and Road Warrior Dog) (c) vs The MexiCruisers (Super Crazy & Psychosis) for the WCW World Tag Team Championships

The announcers hype up that this match came about when The MexiCruisers won a qualifying match to get a shot at the tag team titles. Their buddy Juventud Guerrera just retained his WCW World Cruisweight Championship, can Crazy and Psychosis add even more gold to the MexiCruisers Arsenal?

Mexicools - theme and Titantron Video (youtube.com)

Road Warriors Theme Song (youtube.com)

As the Nu Road Warriors come out we see Animal on a bike and Dog on a moped. Before the match begins BG James cuts a quick promo on The MexiCruisers

The match itself is quite open as whilst The Nu Road Warriors have the size advantage in this clash they're still not quite on the same page. Whilst Super Crazy and Psychosis have not been teaming together too long themselves they seem to have more natural chemistry than BG James and Animal.

There are a few mistakes due to the poor chemistry which The MexiCruisers capitalise on and there's several moments where it looks like Super Crazy or Psychosis could get what would be an upset win.

BG James is the star in the match though as he eventually gets the hot tag and goes on a bit of a rampage on both Crazy and Psychosis before they hit the Doomsday Device to get the victory and retain the titles for the 2nd PPV in a row with Road Warrior Dog getting the pin on Super Crazy

The Nu Road Warriors retain via pinfall. (9.51) - (63 rated)

We see the brand new WCW FXtreme Television Championship placed at the top of the entrance way.

image.png.92a0e0e578e1bcfba4d7ba405675b643.png

There is a short video package where we see the combined history of the WCW World Hardcore Championship and the WCW World Television Championship which have been merged into this one belt.

We also see all 6 men in this match cut a short promo on how they're going to win this match.

We come back from the promo package to see Shane McMahon addressing the audience in a promo from backstage looking directly at the screen.

Shane McMahon says ahead of this match to determine the first ever WCW FXtreme Television Champion I have a huge announcement to make that relates to WCW's relationship with FX. 3 months ago the good people at FX took a chance on not just WCW, but me, you see if I bought WCW and could not get a TV deal then, well, it wouldn't be much good to anyone. But FX, as well as our current international partners Centennial Communications in Puerto Rico and Citytv and A-Channel in Canada... they gave us the platform to launch WCW back to the world!

We started off with a return to tv with 2 hours of Nitro and hoping to run Big Bang! with the further hope that if that was a success we could run a PPV every month and really get WCW back as a major play in professional wrestling... and I'm glad to say with FX's help we have done just that.

So when FX came to me with the idea of sponsoring a championship belt in WCW I was proud to give back to FX and make them part of not just our show but the history and legacy of WCW by having their own name etched in the history books of our championship title belts history.

But as I'm about to announce that wasn't the only request FX came to me with...

You see FX were so happy with our agreement and how well Nitro has been doing they asked me if we could give them more WCW programming.

And I said at first I don't want to make Nitro a 3 hour show again... 2 hours is plenty... 2 hours is perfect... and that's when FX said no, no Shane we mean another show... we would like WCW to have a 1 hour show live on Friday nights!

We discussed the possibility of bringing back Thunder or WCW Power Hour... but FX were quite insistent that they wanted something a little different. They wanted something a bit edgier... a bit rougher around the edges to differentiate between Nitro and for the Friday night audience and so working together virtually with who I think I can now say is my good friend and consultant producer at FX for our new show J.C Bonsignore... after WCW returns from it's summer break... Friday 3rd August 2001 will see the debut on FX for WCW Friday Night Panic!

image.png.ac9bef680507c327cc00930ac7b3eb02.png

Our fans in Puerto Rico and Canada can rest assured you will also be able to tune in. And to our good fans in Japan, Mexico, Europe, The United Kingdom, Australia and Oceania... I am still working hard to secure TV deals in your areas... please make sure you make as much noise as you can and keep buying the VHS tapes for the PPVs we are putting out to show the big bosses of the TV companies where you're from that you want WCW back on your TV sets!

And now I will hand over for the 6-man match that will crown the first ever WCW FXtreme Television Champion...

Wow! says Tony on commentary. What an announcement! You heard it, WCW Friday Night Panic! to debut live on FX on Friday 03 August 2001, that's real good news for WCW, Arn and Scott agree

Match 9:

6-man No Disqualification match for the vacant WCW FXtreme Television Championship - Axl Rotten vs Balls Mahoney vs Buff Bagwell vs Sabu vs Steve Corino vs Tommy Dreamer

WCW Buff Bagwell 4th Theme Song - "Buff Daddy" (With Tron) (youtube.com)

Buff Bagwell comes out with his Buff Daddy hat on.

Well, Tony says, we're in a bit of an odd position where if you're Team WCW, which of course we are... you have to route for Buff Bagwell here? Arn agrees he says Buff might not be the most popular guy in the back and might rub some people up the wrong way but he's our only hope of avoiding a member of The Extreme Alliance getting their hands not just on a WCW contract but a WCW championship too! That WCW World Television Championship, that's got real history you know you look at the past champions you got Ric Flair, Ricky Steamboat, Roddy Piper, Dusty Rhodes, Tully Blanchard, Nikita Koloff, Sting, Bobby Eaton, The Steiner Brothers, Larry Zbyszko... it's a who's who in WCW, NWA and Jim Crocket Promotions history!

Tony adds that the list also includes one Arn Anderson to which Arn laughs and says he forgot the best one!

ECW Classic/Original Theme Song (youtube.com)

As Buff waits in the ring looking a bit apprehensive we see The Extreme Alliance make their way in through the crowd... they come out together Tony says but they can't all win the belt tonight... The Chair Swingin' Freaks have chairs, Tommy Dreamer has a baseball bat, Sabu is carrying a bag of something and a 2x4 block of wood whilst Steve Corino comes out without a weapon... I think he's got a weapon with him all right jokes Arn as the viewers see Don Callis coming out alongside his client Steve Corino.

They eventually all get in the ring and the announcers groan as Don Callis makes his way to the commentary booth at the entrance way.

Good evening fellas! he says as he joins the commentary desk for the match.

Arn asks him what he's doing and Don Callis says he got permission to be on commentary for this match thank you very much Mr Anderson.

Tony isn't happy and asks Don Callis where his little pipsqueak pal Joey Styles is... you know we haven't seen Joey Styles for several weeks, wasn't he managing the Chair Swingin' Freaks? Where is he now? What do you have planned Callis?

Don says that honestly he was going to ask them the same question. For a few weeks none of them have been able to get hold of Joey Styles... Balls Mahoney thought he heard he'd got a job opportunity somewhere else... beats me, says Don, oh well, I was always the better announcer and manager anyway!

Don Callis adds that if anything dodgy is planned we're sure it's from Shane and WCW! We saw what happened to Sandman on Nitro, that referee was paid off to screw him out so WCW could get a guy in this match! We're sure the referee will be trying to help out Buff Bagwell anyway that is possible.

Tony is uncomfortable saying he's sure it was just an honest mistake from the referee as in all 5 other matches an Extreme Alliance member won. The Sandman was tipped as a favourite to win this thing but he's not even in the match, where is he tonight Don, is he another person you guys have hiding up your sleeves?

Don says what am I these guy's mothers? I don't know where Sandman is. We haven't spoken to him since he lost on Nitro. That's the thing with guys like Sandman though... in the end he only cares about The Sandman... once he found out he couldn't get a contract or the title himself he sacked us all off.

As far as The Extreme Alliance is concerned... The Sandman is no longer part of it...

The match itself starts with all 6 man in the ring. From what we understand folks, Tony says, this match can only end via pinfall or submission which must take place inside of the ring.

The 6 men all look at each other staring each other down.

Then every single member of the Extreme Alliance start laughing and then look at Buff Bagwell.

Oh boy, says Tony...

Suddenly every member of the Extreme Alliance begins viciously assaulting Buff Bagwell. The Chair Swingin' Freaks nail him with some chairs, Tommy Dreamer nails him with his bat. Steve Corino hits an Old School Expulsion on him. Buff Bagwell is bleeding from his head.

Sabu then starts ragging on him with the 2x4 as The Chair Swingin' Freaks start hitting him with their chairs and Dreamer nails him with the bat.

Axl Rotten then gets out the ring and sets up a table. Balls Mahoney throws Bagwell out of the ring. Axl sets him up on the table. The other men then clear the path for Sabu in the ring who runs from one rope to the other then hurls himself over the top rope and smashes through Bagwell on the table on the outside.

I think somebody better call his momma! says Don Callis as it's clear from the outside that Buff Bagwell is most likely playing no further part in this match after the beating he has taken.

Sabu is still on the outside recovering with Axl, Balls and Dreamer looking at the destruction. Suddenly from out of nowhere Steve Corino rolls up Axl Rotten!

1-2-3-NO! Tommy Dreamer broke it up at 2.5!

Corino looks gutted that he didn't steal one and suddenly the guys in the ring realise it's every man for himself.

The Chair Swingin' Freaks have an advantage in the sense they have a greater bond than the others and they work together against Dreamer and then Corino before Sabu eventually gets back in the ring and joins the fight.

The chair, bat and 2x4 continue to be used in the match until eventually Sabu gets out some thumbtacks and plants them all over the ring.

Tony, Arn and Scott look on in horror as Don Callis just laughs.

The finish comes about after Tommy Dreamer goes on a rampage nailing everyone in the ring to the point it's just him left in the ring. Against all odds, as he's laughing manically in the ring asking who wants to come and fight him it's actually Buff Bagwell, covered in blood who for all intense and purposes crawls into the ring but looks to the referee as if to suggest that the referee could help him out. The referee looks a bit uncomfortable before Steve Corino sneaks into the ring and hits a massive low blow on Dreamer, who drops the bat. Corino throws Dreamer out of the ring who lands on Sabu, Rotten and Mahoney taking them down with him.

Corino then puts Bagwell in a Crossface Chicken-Wing and Bagwell immediately starts tapping. The referee doesn't immediately call it but Corino starts shouting at him and the ref has no choice but to call for the bell.

Steve Corino wins the title via submission - (10.45) - (61 rated)

Don Callis immediately jumps up celebrating and heads down to the ring to celebrate with Corino who is presented with the WCW FXtreme Television Championship.

On commentary the announcers are quite deflated as they confirm to viewers this means Steve Corino will now become an official member of the WCW roster.

'The Queen of the Underworld' Dawn-Macaria is seen in a backstage pre-recorded promo with the masked men that have been appearing in vignettes with her for a while.

Dawn-Macaria says the Hounds of Hades have waited in hiding long enough... they will be released on WCW television very soon...

Dawn-Macaria removes the masks of the two men and it appears to be Johnny Swinger and Simon Diamond.

Dawn-Macaria says she in the name of the Undead King I proclaim you... Djinni Parisi and Saemon Daemon

Saemon Daemon says we might look like Greek Gods but we're not just two guys that look like bodybuilders shoved together in the Power Plant... we're out of this world!

Match 10:

Rob Van Dam (c) (with Bill Alfonso) vs Lance Storm for the WCW United States Championship.

The announcers hype up this match and how it's come about with the ongoing feud with Team Canada, Terry Funk and Christopher Daniels which RVD was sucked into in helping his friend Terry Funk. Lance Storm got a big pinfall victory against Rob Van Dam on Nitro so he has some momentum going into this match.

Lance Storm WCW Titantron - "Team Canada" (youtube.com)

WWE Rob Van Dam 1st Theme "Van Daminator" (HQ) (youtube.com)

The announcers mention the lack of Mike Awesome or Carl Oullet at ringside who were both in a Tables match which opened the show.

Both these guys can really go and they put on a great match which lasts just under 15 minutes. There's a lot of technical and mat wrestling with RVD also throwing in his athletic ability and high-flying high-risk moves.

Towards the end of the match Lance Storm has Van Dam in the Sharpshooter and it looks like Van Dam might tap but he just about manages to get to the ropes with Alfonso whistling on in support.

Storm gets out the ring and smacks Alfonso in the mouth, he crashes to the floor. Storm says he can shove his whistle up his ass just as RVD comes flying over the rope and smashes into Storm and the side of the arena in front of the crowd.

Van Dam gets Storm back in the ring who tries to hit a German suplex on him but Van Dam lands on his feet and then hits a massive spin-kick to Storm before hitting a Rolling Thunder and then going to the top rope for the Five Star Frog Splash.

Van Dam hits a devastating Frog Splash and then gets the win.

Main Event Video Package

This package hypes the crowd for the main event of Booker T vs DDP and Scott Hall for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. It documents how since Shane took over the original PPV main event was Booker T vs DDP. It looked like Booker T was going to get the win over DDP with a Scissor-Kick before The Extreme Alliance got involved and the match ended in a DQ.

The package then looks at Scott Hall's arrival in WCW and how that prevented this match from being a straight up 1-on-1 rematch between DDP and Booker.

Main Event / Match 11:

Booker T (c) (with Sharmell) vs Diamond Dallas Page vs Scott Hall for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship

WCW DDP Theme Song Self High Five (youtube.com)

DDP comes out to a cool entrance as a group of what looks like yoga instructors have a dance routine to his self-high five song. DDP comes out to a big pop from the crowd.

ECW: Ready Or Not (Scott Hall) [Feat Fugees] - Single + Download Link (youtube.com)

The Bentley we saw driving Scott Hall brings him to the entrance way and parks up. Scott Hall gets out and the announcers mention how Scott Hall has come out to a new entrance theme... it's interesting he chose to not use the NWO theme at a PPV where the NWO had such a big crowning moment at it's inception

WCW Booker T Theme (youtube.com)

Booker T comes out to a lot more pyro than normal to mark the big occasion of the PPV at Bash at the Beach.

The 38,000 capacity crowd are on their feet as the match begins.

This match gets near on 20 minutes as throughout the match all 3 guys have moments where they're up and down. Both DDP and Booker T start off with some form of alliance against Scott Hall who has angered both of them in recent weeks with his taunting. Scott Hall ends up out of the occasion at one point after they both hit big moves on him and Booker and DDP then face off themselves.

It seems like Booker T has the edge on DDP when DDP goes for a Diamond Cutter out of nowhere, but Booker counters it letting DDP fall to the ground, he gets back up instantly but Booker gets him in the ribs and DDP is set up for the Scissor Kick!

After several months it looks like Booker T will finally hit the move his back has left him unable to perform to get the win. Booker goes for the ropes... but then we hear the beeping of a car. Booker manages to nail the Scissor Kick onto DDP but the crowd/announcers are distracted.

The Bentley that drove Scott Hall in earlier comes out to the front of the entrance way again and then reverses up right in front of the entrance way itself.

What's going on?? asks Tony.

Booker T goes for the pin but the referee is distracted by what's happening too.

Booker gets up asking WTF is going on.

The driver of the Bentley gets out of the car wielding a Singapore Cane and wearing sunglasses which he quickly disposes of.

WAIT A MINUTE!! screams Tony. "THAT'S THE SANDMAN... WHAT IN THE HELL IS HE DOING HERE?? He's Scott Hall's driver??"

The Sandman rushes down to the ring, gets in the ring after scaring Sharmell away and stares down a baffled Booker T.

We see Scott Hall climb up onto the apron with a smile on his face.

The Sandman absolutely clatters Booker T several times with the kendo stick whilst Scott Hall discards DDP from the ring to the outside.

The camera feed shows a split screen with a camera of the guerilla position where Stevie Ray, Kanyon and Shane McMahon among others are trying to get through the entrance way to get involved but they can't move the Bentley out of the way!

The camera pans back to solely the ring where The Sandman hits one last shot on Booker T before flipping the bird to the hard camera. "YOU WANNA F*** WITH ME SHANE??? WELL HOW'D YOU LIKE THIS YOU LITTLE BITCH?!"

No! says Tony. Not this way!

Scott Hall puts Booker up for the Razor's Edge and he nails him with it.

The referee looks hesitant to count but The Sandman threatens him with the kendo stick and tells him to count.

The referee slow counts as we see another shot of the guys trying to get through the entrance way past the car

1....2.....3!!!!

My god... sighs Tony.

Scott Hall wins the WCW World Heavyweight Championship via pinfall - (18.11) - (78 rated)

The show ends with DDP looking defeated on the outside. Sharmell is devastated. Booker T still looks out of it and like he hasn't come to terms with what has happened.

The fans are booing like crazy, some of the fans who may have been NWO fans seem to be cheering Scott Hall winning but they're very much in the minority.

Scott Hall stands tall taking it all in as he stands as world champion for the first time in his career with The Sandman looking on and laughing.

The last line we hear is Tony Schiavone saying "Well it looked like the WCW World Heavyweight Champion Booker T had this match won... but then, out of nowhere.. Enter Sandman!

Earlier in the show Don Callis confirmed to us that The Sandman was OUT of The Extreme Alliance... well it seems that he certainly is IN alliance with 'The Bad Guy' Scott Hall who on the 5 year anniversary of the NWO's formation at Bash at the Beach has won... or at the very least stole a World Championship for the first time in his career... I pray the Lord my soul to keep!

Ongoing 2001 PPV predictions league table

Scoring system:

1 point per correct match prediction

Top 3 highest scoring at each PPV get bonus points of (3 points for 1st, 2 points for 2nd and 1 point for 3rd)

image.png.52d761bb24d393d076467d49a16b6c29.png

DGenerationMC still has a decent lead, but with 5 PPVs to go until the end of the 2001 calendar year there is still time for DHK1989, grock9640 or potentially anyone else to still get top spot if they have good showings and pick up some bonus points.

DHK1989 scores the highest for Bash at the Beach with 10 correct matches and the 3 bonus points.

The Bad Guy wins The Big One

In a result that seemed to shock fans both in attendance in California and watching live on PPV across the world, Scott Hall won a Triangle match with Booker T and Diamond Dallas Page last night to win his first ever world title in wrestling.

It is thought that the opportunity to win a world title may certainly have influenced his decision to sign with WCW instead of WWF when both parties were interested in him a few months ago when he still just had a non-exclusive deal with NJPW so could be approached for exclusive contract offers.

Scott Hall won the title in large part due to interference from The Sandman, who having seemingly been screwed out of the chance to win a WCW contract at Bash at the Beach on the last episode of Nitro has now decided to enter into the employment of Scott Hall as his driver.

We are sure this will be addressed on the next episode of Nitro which is set to be a big one as more information about WCW's new show WCW Friday Night Panic! is also set to be revealed.

WCW Friday Night Panic! set to debut on Friday 03 August 2001

At Bash at the Beach this Sunday, WCW owner, Shane McMahon confirmed that a new 1 hour show is coming to Friday nights on FX. Panic! is said to be treated as an "A" show where main roster stars will still regularly take part, but the focus will be more wrestling-oriented and the 1 hour show is said to be more aimed at the 18-34 market. It is not sure exactly how this will be delivered or how drastically different to Nitro it will end up feeling, but we are told Shane McMahon is expected to confirm on the next Nitro that Nitro and Panic! will have different sets and announce teams to differentiate between the two.

Panic! will be a separate event attached to WCW house shows, so fans purchasing tickets for WCW Panic! will get the 1 hour of Panic! as well as a reported 1hr 30 minute house-show before Panic! This should help create revenue for WCW with 2 "big" events each week instead of 1 event and 1 house show.

It is rumoured that the new WCW FXtreme Television Championship could play a big part in Panic! in the short and long-term future of the show, which would mean potentially a decent amount of national TV time for newly crowned champion Steve Corino who won the belt in the 6 man match at Bash at the Beach.
