PSW: Unfinished Business

Recommended Posts

So, I thought I'd give PSW another crack.

I really enjoyed my first go but it ended way too early for my liking - link here if you're interested

I'm still a middle-aged writer, but I have a full-time job now so life has changed considerably. My son's now coming up to three and as all the parents will know, I'm slowly but surely getting some free time back.

I was 50/50 on starting up a diary again but seeing some greats of the dynasty boards who have inspired my own writing has completely brought the bug back.

In this diary, the product should have a completely different feel from my first which I'll explain as the story progresses. I'm also avoiding all of the popular characters from my last diary (a couple of lower card guys might be similar).

I'm afraid my skills with graphics have only progressed to the point where I can drag pictures and logos onto the screen so if beautiful diaries aren't your thing, then this one probably isn't for you. If narrative and storytelling is your thing, then welcome.

I'll be looking to use pictures made by 3D rendering software (not by me) as this is the look I prefer, this may change as AI progresses but right now a lot of the pictures just don't work for the characters I've envisioned. If you agree with me, great, if you don't, that's great too.

Anyway, as my grandad used to say, this isn't Live Aid, let's get on with some hardcore wrestling.

24-hour call for predictions. In the meantime, here's some pre-show action

PSW_NY Revolution.jpg

DumfreyPinn.jpg.41480158f4377e2a5bab3ab1413ed9ce.jpgKalderTagg.jpg.9b9d1eb01443ac7f828ef7cd31f51f8e.jpgWolfieTagg.jpg.13168b8a7ec9489fdb8238df45ef7fd3.jpgimage.jpeg.853664f676974837348e9344e8674488.jpeg

Dumphrey Pinn: ‘Look boys, this has been shit. I came here to make Pinn Enterprises a global institution, kick some arse, and win some gold on the way.

‘What I did not come here to do, was to lose my belt to a little c*** obsessed with his mobes.

‘Dog, they told me you were the guy mate, but all I've seen is a fur baby.

'And Taggs, you look like Aussies but fight like Kiwis.

‘I’m thinking maybe I need to reach out elsewhere, because you three are really starting to chip away at my…’

ChipMartin.jpg.236cc25a85fb6f4bd663960bd504a9da.jpg

Chip Martin: ‘SAY HIS NAME AND HE APPEARS.’

Utter crickets as the awkward silence extends to at least 10 seconds

‘SEEK HIM FAR OR SEEK HIM NEAR.’

No-one’s sure what to make of the musical serenade, but this doesn’t stop Chip.

‘I BELIEEE…’

Chip’s solo is interrupted by a swift jab to the jaw from the boss.

Dumphrey: ‘Seriously? This is exactly what I’m talking about. This c*** breaks in here and none of you bat an eyelid. Get out there and teach him a lesson.’

Devil Dog: ‘Sir, yes sir.’

Dumphrey: ‘Good dog. Tweedledum and Tweedledee, you go with him.’

KalderTagg.jpg.9b9d1eb01443ac7f828ef7cd31f51f8e.jpgimage.jpeg.853664f676974837348e9344e8674488.jpegWolfieTagg.jpg.13168b8a7ec9489fdb8238df45ef7fd3.jpg vs DustinDeuce_alt77.jpg.10a0e4d92ec9db3adb8076efd45061c7.jpgVendetta.jpg.a66089ec5b1151b56694feb8dd4185ca.jpgChipMartin.jpg.236cc25a85fb6f4bd663960bd504a9da.jpg

·         Dumphrey’s lads may not be on a good run, but they’re big. And they use their size to isolate PSW’s young wrestler of the year, Dustin Deuce in the corner

·         The Taggs do a great job in cutting Deuce off and look to have the match won following a brutal release spinebuster from Wolfie, dropping Deuce into Kalder’s knees

·         With Dog about to apply the rear naked choke this one looks over

·         Until he stops, and sits bolt upright in the middle of the ring

·         The faces are quick to take advantage, with Chip applying the chrome spray to Vendetta: ‘Release the rivaaaaaarrrrr’, double madman clothesline sending him and the Taggs to the outside

·         After waiting to see if there’s any response from Dog, Chip hits the superkick

·         Deuces Are Wild diving footstomp and the faces pick up an unlikely win

Winners – Dustin Deuce, Chip Martin and Vendetta – Grade – 40

The camera follows the celebrating faces to the back, with Dustin spotting a mysterious shape on top of his bag…

How To Make An Origami Lily Flower ...

A scene of complete blackness is shown, with the screen illuminated by someone striking a match

ZombieBoy_alt66.jpg.c41e2eafd338f988cd675b9d29c85c68.jpgWickedLester_alt.jpg.18ada32ac3031763a3697f3b34f866aa.jpgDeathwish_alt5.jpg.09edc26f5514b9aad281fc75374bfbdb.jpg

Lester: ‘Ahh the suffering, the sweet, sweet, suffering. Jebediah, Devil May Care, we have such sights to show you. You will all kneel before me, or you will taste the flames.’

Deathwish lets out a chilling scream as Lester blows out the flame.

‘I said YO’. An audible groan goes through the arena as Reckless Antix make their way to the ring.

Antix: ‘Hector Galindo, you’re a wrongdoer, I’ll spit on your thing, like Hawk Tuah.

‘Big Jesus needs to go on a diet, stomach’s looking like the UK after the riots.’

JesusChavez.jpg.761e886c0af7f3a3108292eef143cb59.jpgHectorGalindo.jpg.9036804293200ea5dfc436a34f7b55e1.jpg vs Antix.jpg.2007befd3ae8b930e1234900feadbb6b.jpgXavierReckless.jpg.6707496fa042fee2f3b89fc142ac43e0.jpg

·         If Antix was hoping his ‘bars’ would unsettle the experienced duo, he was sadly mistaken

·         And enraged Galindo unloaded several closed fists at the rapper, leaving him reeling

·         Reckless managed to regain control of the match for his team, but a missed mic drop brings in big Jesus

·         Galindo goes up on Jesus’ shoulders and comes all the way down with a huge splash for the win

Winners – The Latino Kings – Grade 46

It's great to see you back writing here and congratulations on the successes mentioned in your opening post. A very enjoyable pre-show: I think I said it before but you're the master at integrating pop culture references and it makes me feel a bit better about myself when I get them given I'm not the best at staying on trend, haha.

‘Hello and welcome everyone to a new year at the Home of Hardcore.’

image.jpeg.94556769b1ae9e7eee434a1b628d9683.jpg.46d780ec2f02d0faec57ddb2990dd024.jpgimage.jpeg.3f99d5ff80fca7c3295d73128db79beb.jpeg

‘I’m Mitch Naess with the Iceman Alex Braun. And I apologise in advance for this opening segment.’

The Lux Aeterna fills the sound of the arena as the Steel Circle enter the ring

Youngman: ‘Wolfsbaine, ring, now.’

LoganWolfsbaine.jpg.e5dcb856bf97c6be08a874aae9264f45.jpg

The Champ comes out with his classic determined stomp. The reaction from the crowd is insane, showing how much they’ve embraced Logan Wolfsbaine since the face turn.

With Logan commanding the centre of the ring, Ernest circles his opponent, looking for a weakness, while Idol admires his reflection and Jordan searches for the latest odds on tonight’s matches.

Youngman: ‘One chance. You leave my belt, and you scuttle off to Japan permanently. Say no, then you’re target, and I destroy your life.’

Wolfsbaine: ‘Ha Ha, let me guess, I say no, then I face Jordan this month, Idol next month, then you the month after? Ernest I know all of your tricks.

‘They way you move, the way you think, you taught me everything you know. And I was a good little student, I soaked all that information up, and when the time was right, I struck out on my own. Now look.’

Wolfsbaine raises the belt to an enormous pop.

‘That’s why you’ll never beat me Ern. I’m you, but bigger, younger and better. So if you want to play this game then that’s fine, but when it comes down to it, I’ll take you all out in the name of Glory and for the name of Diaz.’

Just then Idol stops admiring his reflection and delivers a kick to the groin which doubles Wolfsbaine over, then GUN SIGN and The Hit from Youngman.

Youngman: ‘Looks like you’re a target then – for The Assassin of the Squared Circle.’

Jordan: ‘Looks like my odds just improved.’

Logan rolls out of the ring and is restrained by referees, snarling at the trio, while Youngman and Idol wait for the entrance of their opponents.

·         After giving Idol a thorough coaching, Ernest starts the match against Samoan Machine, the shorter of the pair

·         And Ernest shows why he’s one of the best on the indie scene, tying Toma in knots before hurling him into the corner with an exploder

·         Despite a good start, Idol’s constant flexing gives Machine the chance to recover, which sees Umaga enter the ring

·         The Samoans then make mincemeat of the pretty boy, treating him like tennis ball in between stereo headbutts

·         Not liking where the match was going, Ernest makes a dash around the apron, tope suicida to Machine

·         Finally getting Idol to focus… KICK TO THE GROIN…. THE HIT!!!

1,2,3!

WINNERS – Ernest Youngman and Jake Idol – Grade 61

So they shook, there ain’t no such things as half-way crooks.

SayeedAli.jpg.2ed1fe73eb430fd19e755eaea639143d.jpg.57a28f672be2cfab012fa85cf03f7eeb.jpg

Sayeed Ali stomps out to the ring. In the last couple of years, The East Side Assassin has seen his career take a backseat to new and up-and-coming wrestlers at PSW. You’d definitely say he’s been lost in the shuffle.

Ali: ‘Word up son. No boos? No cheers? Shyeeeeeeeeet.

‘I fought everyone, I made em bleed, I won the National Title, yet I see some pretty boy honky pussy dictating who gets the next shot.

‘I’m done waitin for my shot, I’ve come equipped for warfare, and I’m gon just take it.’

CowboyBuckWinchester.jpg.4b556e9a1d24a749243af3cd6153c825.jpg.8d0b61d38e85b58034302632418d8965.jpg

Cowboy Buck Winchester: ‘BOY’. The crowd erupts and Buck’s catchphrase while Ali mouths that he’s older than Buck.

‘Remember when I beat you?

‘And I won that National Title twice, so where’s my shot.’

As the two stare each other down – the crowd erupts as PSW’s most beloved face enters the scene.

XaviFerrera.jpg.aa6a34576f1c4931367fb75cc2b65633.jpg

Xavi Ferrera: ‘A cowboy and a gangsta? Damn I forgot my sailor outfit!

‘So seeing as our Village People tribute act ain’t getting off the ground, and we’re all former National champions, maybe we should fight it out for a title shot? Know what I’m saying?’

Ali: ‘Don’t talk big, Xavi. You ain’t about this life. See you boys later.’

Braun: ‘Interesting, three men with completely different styles meet in the ring for a title shot

JebediahMask.jpg.7406ed940f9635c2b2d2515eb7042673.jpg vs WickedLester_alt.jpg.18ada32ac3031763a3697f3b34f866aa.jpg

·         The leader of the Legion of Blood enters the ring with his two followers, making this in effect a handicap match.

·         Lester demands Jebediah kneels, only to get a straight right hand to the face

·         After this, the jackals descend on the big Amish man, tearing at his lovely suit

·         Jeb’s sheer size means he is able to fight off the Legion with is signature punch combo as the crowd chant along – Jeb jab – Jeb jab – Jeb jab – winding it up HAYMAKER floors Zomboy

·         But just as Jeb looks to put Lester down for good FIREBALL TO THE FACE

·         Naess: ‘Oh come on! This freak’s going to kill someone.’

·         With Jebediah rolling on the floor, Zomboy pours petrol over the table while Lester lights the match….

·         Jebs is sent up into a powerbomb position and driven through by Lester into the flames! The ref stops proceedings with the Amish man writhing on the floor

Winner – Wicked Lester – Grade 37

Mitch Naess: ‘Someone check on Jebediah for god’s sake!’

Alex Braun: ‘I’m lost for words, this isn’t about wrestling.

Lester: ‘Bring out our next victims.’

·         After witnessing the previous carnage, Stuntman and Acid II come to the ring armed with kendo sticks

·         With the two sides facing off, the Legion of Blood drops to its knees…

·         Naess: ‘What the hell?’

·         Quick as a flash, Acid II levels his partner in the skull

·         With the crowd stunned to silence, Acid unloads on Stuntman with his Singapore Cane

·         He only stops when Zomboy ascends to the top rope to land his double foot stomp for the victory

Winners – Blood Soldiers – Grade – 39

image.jpeg.aa737bfff8fd3722012feca21b1a77bd.jpeg

Lester: ‘No longer will this man weigh you down, cast him into the flames.’

Naess: ‘No not again, somebody stop them.’

Right on cue, the Latino Kings sprint to the ring, with fists flying in all directions. With the battle going the way of the Kings, Lester calls for his troops to retreat, with the Kings having to hold back Galindo from pursuing them.

@BarryStanton: ‘Not on the card again Buddy?’

@Adr3nal3nrussssssshhhhhh: ‘No, hopefully next time, I’ll keep working hard.’

@BarryStanton: ‘You can work harder than everyone, it won’t matter when you work at PSW.’

@Adr3nal3nrussssssshhhhhh: ‘What do you mean?’

@BarryStanton: ‘Haven’t you seen what PSW stands for? Pittsburgh Steel Wokeness.’

@BarryStanton: ‘They have to make sure all the illegals get on the card, meaning there’s no spot on the card for good honest American wrestlers like yourself’

@Adr3nal3nrussssssshhhhhh: Really? Shit, I didn’t know that.’

@BarryStanton: ‘Yeah, confirmed. You’ll never get on the card. Unless we fight.’

·         After taking selfies with the crowd, the two lock up, with Austin being hurled into the corner

·         Pinn laughs at Smooth, before kicking him in the gut and bodyslamming him

·         The big Aussie dominates the match, throwing Smooth around the ring and showing surprising agility for a big man

·         After a wicked pounce, Smooth only just avoids the Boss-a-Nova by sweeping out Pinn’s leg, leaving him howling in agony

·         From then, it’s all Smooth who transitions from a Leg Lock into the Smooth Hold

·         Pinn drags the pair of them around the ring for nearly a minute before tapping

Winner – Austin Smooth – Grade 55

Mitch Naess: ‘Before we carry on with the action folks, we have some exciting news.’

Alex Braun: ‘From the start of next month, live on Wrestleworld, Steel City Smash will be streamed into your homes.’

image.jpeg.987375787f6246c5c98ce035b199e0d2.jpeg

Naess: ‘More hardcore wrestling beamed into your homes, and trust me folks, this is just the start of it.’

·         Three men enter the ring desperate to prove they belong at the top of the card

·         Weapons, brawling and high flying dominate the day, with a wicked corkscrew plancha from Xavi onto his opponents outside the ring garnering an audible ‘oooooh’ from the crowd

·         Xavi’s speed keeps his opponents constantly off their guard, leaving Sayeed prone after the Ferrerana

·         But just as Xavi goes up top to look for the finish, the Cowboy shoves him off the top rope and into the railings

·         Buck now has Sayeed in his sights, knowing one lariat will see him in the main event

·         LARIAT

TexasHangman.jpg.3f6228e7a778b692de9b7a1a17665ab4.jpg

Naess: ‘Who the hell is this guy? He’s huge!’

·         The unknown cowboy makes his way to the back with Buck just coming to his senses

·         His senses aren’t with him for very long though – GBH DRIVER! 1-2-3

·         Sayeed Ali wins it and gets his chance to prove he belongs in the main event

Winner – Sayeed Ali – Grade 57

·         A snarling Logan is ready to go while Jordan is his cool, calculated self, working out the odds of every planned attack

·         At the start of the match, Jordan seems to have him scouted, flipping out of Germans and avoiding any of his throws

·         But even with all the odds at his disposal, Jordan can’t match Logan’s raw power…. Deadlift german!

·         2!3!4!5!

·         After being dropped on his head several times, Jordan’s on dream street, Belly-to-Belly! 1-2-3 It’s a straightforward win for the champ

Winner – Logan Wolfsbaine – Grade 71!!!!!

The referee’s hand barely hits the mat before Youngman and Idol hit the ring…..

Naess: ‘Logan’s had it scouted – German to Idol!’

With just Logan and Ernest face-to-face in the ring, the show fades to black

Wow what a rating.

The Acid II turn was definitely unexpected, looking forward to seeing what's next for him.

Powell as well, I imagine that gimmick will be interesting.

Enjoyed the pacing/length, all of it, great show man.

Also I'm annoyed I can't now use the Clay Davis 'shyeeeet' as that's a great catchphrase for anyone!

It's great to see you back writing here and congratulations on the successes mentioned in your opening post. A very enjoyable pre-show: I think I said it before but you're the master at integrating pop culture references and it makes me feel a bit better about myself when I get them given I'm not the best at staying on trend, haha.

Thanks a lot for this mate, really appreciate it. I do want this diary to have more of a gritty, hardcore feel and be less smarky than the last one, but expect a lot of current affairs to pop up.

Cheers mate, really enjoyed your first show. On the rating, I think the condition added for this game where a hot crowd reacts to great wrestling in a main event gave it a huge boost.

I'll be doing some posts throughout the diary to show how Johnny Martin's booking will differ from Eric Tyler's. One of these will be next and then the debut of Steel City Showdown (hate this name btw).

Congratulations on the strong start. The fire spots definitely captured that gritty hardcore feel, and it made The Latino Kings feel like a big deal that they were able to stop it. You've given yourself plenty to build on with the Acid II turn and Texas Hangman debut among other things, so it will be fun to see it all play out.

‘What the hell was that?!?!?!’

AlexBraun_alt5.jpg.fc5e4b2be1e50563554d76c04b5e4eea.jpg

Alex Braun retained the Ice Man moniker even after retirement for his level-head and calm analysis, so this outburst was clearly out of character.

JohnnyMartin_alt5.jpg.8a1529f76fa4f761df39ce74e221ad14.jpg

Johnny Martin: ‘Looked to me like the best show we’ve run in ages, without going through any of our best-match-ups.’

Braun: ‘You know damn well what I mean Martin. We were moving away from hardcore, protecting these kids so they’re not as banged up as we are, extending their careers. You spend one month on the book and we’ve got flaming tables.’

Martin: ‘Eric’s gone now Alex. Remember why we did PSW. Retribution, and to take hardcore to the top of the industry. We can make compromises, look at the two title matches. No weapons and great wrestling, and the crowd ate it up. But we can’t compromise on our identity.’

Braun: ‘I’m not happy about this, but we have other things to discuss.’

Naess: ‘Yes if you’re quite finished gentlemen, let’s address the main event.’

MitchNaess_alt5.jpg.5e1cdd792339873a6768e9cfe4dec9b3.jpg

Martin: ‘Callum and Ash are gone. We haven’t done a good enough job of replacing them, that’s on all of us.’

Naess: ‘What happened to guys getting over on their own? Where are those guys?’

Braun: ‘We’ll come onto that but there’s more bad news, TCW.’

Martin: ‘Yeah they’re hiring. I don’t know how Ernest hasn’t moved on yet, but he’s perfect in every way for them, so we should brace ourselves.’

Braun: ‘And with Logan being based in Japan now, we could be into our last year with Wolfsbaine. TCW could even pick him up.’

Naess: ‘Well thanks guys, so basically we’re f*****.’

Martin: ‘We will be if we don’t plan to push new guys to the top of the roster.’

Braun: ‘Agreed, unlike earlier. Who are you thinking of? Please don’t say Chip.’

Martin: ‘Come on Alex, this stupid gimmick he’s running now was my idea to have him pay his dues. Moving on, traditionally the National champion is the next guy to move up.’

hZEDsQh.jpg.951628d92c464a017b8d3ecfaf73c7c5.jpg.84b1e007bf4d9a9d2d3246fcc68bc94c.jpg

Braun: ‘He’s good enough now. Look how he’s carried that old wreck Pinn to some of the best matches of his career.’

Martin: ‘Not exactly hardcore but that’s not the main problem. Like Logan, he’s now working in Japan and wrestling regularly for BCG, so if he keeps doing well that will be him gone too.’

Naess: ‘Are you two actually going to give me some good news anytime soon?’

Martin: ‘Yes.’

XaviFerrera.jpg.aa6a34576f1c4931367fb75cc2b65633.jpg

Braun: ‘We both agree, this guy’s paid his dues and he’s ready now to carry the company on his back.’

Naess: ‘Fantastic, who else?’

SayeedAli.jpg.2ed1fe73eb430fd19e755eaea639143d.jpg.57a28f672be2cfab012fa85cf03f7eeb.jpg

Martin: ‘Sayeed can easily wrestle in the main event, we’re hoping this feud with Logan can make him.’

Braun: ‘Due to his age, this needs to be his last chance. He’s had chances before and the crowd just hasn’t bought it.’

Naess: ‘Well let’s hope this time it sticks.’

CowboyBuckWinchester.jpg.4b556e9a1d24a749243af3cd6153c825.jpg.8d0b61d38e85b58034302632418d8965.jpg

Braun: ‘Nah.’

Martin: ‘What do you mean nah? He’s the most recognisable guy on our roster, can go on the mic and in the ring, he’d be a proper hardcore champion.’

Braun: ‘He drinks and smokes heavily. He doesn’t take care of himself. He can’t hold his own in the ring. He’s a DAVE 1995 main eventer, we’ve moved on now.’

Naess: ‘Right so that’s one definite, one if we move quickly, one maybe and one no. So we need to look outside and I’ve had some ideas gentleman.’

Braun: ‘Go on…

AntonioDelVeccio.jpg.479c88e581fea71063d0d43d37b6d485.jpg

Braun: ‘Good in-ring, doesn’t excel at anything but he’s solid.’

Martin: ‘Gimmick is way too close to Dumphrey’s, so we’d need the big man to step out of the picture.’

Braun: ‘We also looked at bringing him in when he finished in Canada. He’d want to be the best paid wrestler on the roster, is he good enough for that? The MAW guys said he can be a bit of an a**hole as well.’

Naess: ‘Fine – this guy?’

image.jpeg.5a9e0aae5da13f1d60c184bbf928dfa9.jpeg

Braun: ‘No.’

Martin: ‘Nah.’

Naess: ‘This guy’s an old contact.’

DougPeak.jpg.9d3faaba8393e3719bd7f61d5600af30.jpg

Martin: ‘If he’s motivated then he’d be an ideal short-term solution.’

Braun: ‘hmmmm, I mean I don’t hate it. He’s not as banged up as you’d think. As long as he’d be willing to put people over, we’ve been bitten in the ass with that before.’

Naess: ‘Last one.’

TennesseeWilliam_alt55.jpg.7aa6c744124a63cb0b70b1918fc3e456.jpg

Braun: ‘Over my dead body.’

Martin: ‘Yes.’

Naess: ‘Okay, positives and negatives?’

Braun: ‘Hokey ass gimmick and he’d be known as the guy from the retirement home, we’d be booking one of their stars.’

Martin: ‘I agree with the hokey ass gimmick, that’s why his heat would be nuclear. Imagine if he came out playing songs, the fans would try and kill him. And because he’s done most of his work at the retirement home, his in peak physical condition, and could show a newfound aggression he hasn’t shown before.’

Braun: ‘Still no, you two sign this guy it may be a dealbreaker for me. I think we’re done here.’

And with that, Braun exits the scene, leaving Naess and Martin to weigh up potentially one of the biggest and most controversial signings in the company’s history.

Naess: 'Well there's that guy Dumphrey talks about who walked out on RAW...'

Nice way of giving a peek behind the curtain at the booking team's thoughts on potential main eventers in and outside of the company. It will be interesting to see how the transition plays out on screen. You also neatly captured the conflict I often find with 2020s DIW where your fanbase and identity is built on hardcore but your main eventers offer something different. Again, it will be fun to see how that develops. And I liked the tease at the end of another potential recruit from Oceania.

Preshow

‘Well look who it is.’

Teddy Powell wanders in on Antix and Reckless warming up for their match.

Powell: ‘You two are okay with this?’

Antix: ‘Teddy, what’ch you talking about now?’

Powell: ‘It’s what are you. I’m talking about you two getting matches because you’re an ethnic minority act, while a good honest, talented young white man like myself has to sit on the sidelines.’

Antix: ‘What the hell did you just say?’

Reckless has to hold Antix back from launching himself at Powell.

Reckless: ‘You want to step off the sidelines tonight old man? You’ve got your match.

Next we go over to our brand new interviewer Haley Buck, who’s trying to get a word from the mystery cowboy.

The Mystery cowboy walks off, leaving Buck extremely confused.

  • BIG BOOT……. CHOKESLAM! This one’s over early

Next we see the ever popular Dustin Deuce, trying his luck with a couple of the female backstage workers.

DustinDeuce_alt77.jpg.10a0e4d92ec9db3adb8076efd45061c7.jpg

Deuce: ‘… Yeah so they can’t even breathe through their mouths, and they sleep standing up. I’m great at doing stuff as well.’

‘Now hold on just a minute there playa.’

CatlBatch_alt1.jpg.45d53221750fe00082a90b73cf775dd6.jpgimage.jpeg.5f7a97ebeef4df856539f7159d3508b2.jpg.cc26da1f3a9a6fd0f5648aa2a7b3a964.jpg

Carl Batch and Cerberus move into shot, with Deuce not particularly pleased to see the latter.

Batch: ‘You see my client here has made it his personal mission to rid PSW of the weak. And guess what kid? You’re his first choice, let’s go big man.’

The pair move away, leaving a terrified Dustin Deuce to face the music.

  • Cerberus begins the match by launching a chair at the Dustin’s head, drawing blood – the ladies will be devastated
  • From there, Cerberus administers a prison style beatdown, slamming Deuce’s head into everything that is and isn’t nailed down
  • But PSW’s young wrestler of the year finds a window of opportunity after countering a bearhug into a tornado DDT
  • However, his move to the top rope is a mistake, with Cerberus swatting him out of the air with a trashcan lid.
  • For a final exclamation point, Cerb wraps his trademark chain around his fist and clocks Deuce in the face
  • We don’t even need a count here, as the referee stops it and immediately calls for medical attention
  • Winner - Cerberus - Grade 39

Mitch Naess: ‘Hello and welcome everyone to a night of history.’

Alex Braun: ‘That’s right Mitch, the first ever Steel City Smash, live on Wrestleworld

Naess: ‘Live and streamlined, with more action than ever, so let’s head to the ring old friend, where fan favourite Austin Smooth has something to say.’

hZEDsQh.jpg.951628d92c464a017b8d3ecfaf73c7c5.jpg.84b1e007bf4d9a9d2d3246fcc68bc94c.jpg

Smooth takes a moment to bask in the adulation of the crowd

Smooth: ‘You know, wherever I go, this will always be my home.’

Smooth: ‘I may not be a Pittsburgh native and we may not have got off to the best of starts. But you guys looked past the little dork with the phone in his hand.

‘You saw the blood I spilled, the sweat, the tears, the part of my life I gave to this company.

‘And you gave it back to me. You taught me to leave the boy behind and you guys turned me into a man.

‘From being a dorky kid, to the man standing in front of you today, there’s always been one man I admired above all the rest, Ernest Youngman, could you come to the ring please.’

ErnestYoungman.jpg.61f79f769da661e91a873cfb0e762177.jpg

The Assassin of the Squared Circle does his usual act of circling his prey while waiting for Smooth to talk.

Smooth: ‘No Rich and Famous today? Perfect! I have a proposition for you, Smooth v Youngman, for the first time ever, in the first ever main event of Steel City Smash.’

Braun: ‘Woah.’

Naess: ‘The fans seem to like that idea.’

Youngman: ‘I left Rich & Famous in the back by choice, that’s how little I think of you. But I will consider your proposal….

‘Pros; winning the first ever main event of Steel City Smash, winners bonus and main event bonus

‘Cons; wrestling a nobody, wrestling someone far below my stature, no title, no interest. I’ll pass.’

As Ernest makes his way to the back, Smooth tries to make him change his mind.

Smooth: ‘Let’s face it Ern, you’ve not got much else to do.

‘You know Logan’s got you beat. You didn’t get the call to Japan like us two. And despite telling everyone how much better you were than Nelson and Ash, they got picked up for Canada and you’re still here.

‘So it’s either this match, or you can have a talk with Teddy Powell about wasted potential….’

Audible gasps around the arena as Ernest stops in his tracks.

Youngman: ‘I’ll see you later Smooth.’

  • Teddy Powell has seen it all in the ring, unfortunately for him, that’s left its mark
  • His moniker ‘Constant Motion’ may as well be ironic these days, with Reckless easily picking off a slow target
  • The only things keeping Powell going are his inner rage and dirty tactics, both on display here
  • With Reckless sizing him up, Powell spits in his face, infuriating Reckless and causing the action to spill outside
  • With Powell resting on the guardrail, a man in a hoody hands him something… a brick! Which he smashes over Reckless’ head
  • Powell then rolls him into the ring and…. MOTION CENSOR! 1-2-3
  • Winner – Teddy Powell – Grade 44
  • Powell’s only stopped from doing more damage by a charging Antix, forcing Powell to flee up the ramp

Buck: ‘That boy…. Well you’ll find out at Highway To Hell when I call him out.’

  • Mayhem. That’s the only adjective sufficient to describe this match filled with highspots, weapons and carnage
  • We saw Wicked Lester shoot a fireball at Xavi which he only managed to duck out of at the last second
  • Big Jesus showed off all his strength by hitting a double suplex on both of the Bone Soldiers
  • Zomboy showed even less regard for his own wellbeing than usual, hitting a springboard coffin drop to the outside
  • And Xavi Ferrera wasn’t one to be outdone, hitting consecutive tope suicidas from both sides of the ring
  • While Acid II was a clear advantage to the Legion, he found himself ganged up on and wiped out by a shooting star press from Galindo through a table on the outside
  • Inside the ring, a street cutter to Deathwish, followed by a Frog Splash from Xavi seals the win
  • Winners – The Latino Kings and Xavi Ferrera – Grade 47

Mitch Naess appears in the ring for the next segment.

MitchNaess_alt5.jpg.5e1cdd792339873a6768e9cfe4dec9b3.jpg

Naess: ‘Ladies and gentlemen, aren’t we having a great night of wrestling so far?

‘Before we get underway with the main event, we have a special contract signing for the main event for Highway to Hell.’

‘So please, first, allow me to welcome the challenger, Sayeed Ali.’

SayeedAli.jpg.2ed1fe73eb430fd19e755eaea639143d.jpg.57a28f672be2cfab012fa85cf03f7eeb.jpg

Ali shuffles his way to the ring. There are at least a few audible boos this time.

‘And finally, the champion, who will be making his seventh defence of his PSW title, Logan Wolfsbaine!’

LoganWolfsbaine.jpg.e5dcb856bf97c6be08a874aae9264f45.jpg

The arena erupts at the sight of one of/if not the best independent wrestler in the game today.

Before Naess can go any further, Logan snatches the contract and signs it.

Wolfsbaine: ‘In the name of Glory, and for the name of Diaz.’

Naess: ‘Now Mr Ali, if you please.’

Ali: ‘In the name of Glory, and for the name of Diaz? Shyyiiiiiiiiiit.

‘You come out here with your Skepta theme song, but what do you actually know about this life.

‘I call myself a gangster because I’ve lived this life for 36 years. The streets is tough, but what the hell would you know about that?

‘Ten years ago, you were the high school wrestling captain. When I was that age, I was jacking people in the street just to survive another day. When you been where I have, lived the life I have, you fear nothing. Especially not a some private school pussy. Gimme dat.’

Instead of accepting Naess’ pen, Ali pulls out a flick knife and guides it along his finger. He signs his name in blood.

Ali: ‘See you soon champ. And this ain’t gon be no high school wrestling contest, this gon be a fight.’

  • Still carrying his disdain, Ernest locks up with Austin before sweeping to the back and taking his legs down to the mat.
  • He then pats him on the head before circling back to the middle of the ring
  • Undeterred, Smooth goes for another lock-up, with Ernest this time going for a headlock takedown and a nuggie.
  • Braun: ‘Ernest is usually all business, Smooth must really have got to him earlier.’
  • Smooth looks to be going for another lock-up, only to smash Ernest in the face with a forearm, snap maring him then landing a sickening kick to his spine.
  • Naess: ‘This kid really is a Pittsburgh native.’
  • The match then proceeds in this way, with Smooth showing a newfound aggression, and Ernest wearing him down with holds.
  • With match near its close, Ernest locks Austin in an excruciating Octopus Hold, but Austin reverses into his Fireman’s carry cutter!
  • 1
  • 2
  • Ernest transitions!
  • 1
  • 2
  • Austin rolls back and locks in the Smooth Hold!
  • Ernest writhes on the canvas in pain, desperately looking for a weigh out
  • The Assassin eventually manages to  moves onto his knees, then flip Smooth over into a pinning combination, crossing his legs for extra effect
  • `1
  • 2
  •
  • 3!
  • Winner – Ernest Youngman – Grade 81 (holy mother of God)

The show goes to credits with Ernest tapping his head at a dejected Austin Smooth who remains sitting in the ring.

Wow again with the ratings. I've actually also had that main event and whilst it was my highest scoring match (until the week after), it was no where near 85!

It deserved it as well, I really liked the smooth promo to set it up. I always like it in diaries when there's reference to the past (how Smooth has grown in PSW). It's too easy to just always write it like a new promotion.

The Sayeed/Logan match has been heated up too with that promo.

As christmas_ape and AboardTheArk said, 81 is incredible this early on. I like the decision to build intrigue and not immediately reveal the colossal cowboy or whoever helped Teddy Powell's illegitimate concerns reach their inevitable end point of whacking someone over the head with a brick. Meanwhile. I've got Haley Buck typecast in my head as some kind of cowboy whisperer as she's running a saloon in Wrestling Machine's Wild West dynasty and her first involvement here was interviewing two cowboys.

You nailed the main event story, especially leaning into their past and the Japan contrast, really establishing Smooth as a threat. Like christmas_ape, I love any opportunity to reference company history, so this was great. Similar to Smooth, Sayeed Ali is already screaming main event player after following his triple threat win with that promo. And like ATA, I was hyped to see the FCW crew win on the undercard.

Thanks very much guys. I love a bit of CVerse, there's enough backstory there to give you some readymade feuds, but still enough scope to craft the world in your own image.

On the main event, I planned on running the match much further down the line, but TCW's growth spooked me so I pulled the trigger. I can happily say TCW hasn't bitten on any of our roster, but it will surely be a matter of time. The main event grades mean I can build up guys a bit further down the card to hopefully take the place of anyone who gets poached.

The card for Highway to Hell should be up tomorrow (fingers crossed), with the winner getting to pick our next main eventer from the earlier post.
