WWE SmackDown! - Beyond The Bash

"Beyond The Bash" I've decided to do my own diary. Seeing as SmackDown! is my favorite brand, RAW is way to overcrowded and we don't get to see ECW in Australia, I've chosen to take control of the SmackDown! brand. I'll keep it true to the real-life SmackDown! at the beginning, meaning no Henry, Lashley, Khali for now and I'll "officially" begin tomorrow after the Great American Bash is finished, I'll use those results in my game. (Meaning if Booker wins, he'll begin as World Heavyweight Champion in my game.) I also would like to keep it semi-realistic. Yes, I'll bring in some people that would most likely never step foot in a WWE ring again (or just fullstop...) But I don't want the show dominated by people like Hogan, Rock, Austin, Lesnar, Sting, etc. I'm using the roster split version of TCP's update, just in case anyone was wondering. So this first post will have all the "information", meaning the roster, champions, events, etc. This will be updated whenever it's needed. (BTW this took me a fair amount of time... So if there are any errors at all, please point them out as I'm sure there are a couple.) Any suggestions are welcome, too. BREAKING NEWS! -- Teddy Long Released! SDNews.com has learned that the current General Manager of SmackDown!, Theodore "Teddy" Long has been released from his contract. No details on why he was released have surfaced, but we'll inform you as soon as possible on what has happened. It is unknown who will replace Long as GM, but Eric Bischoff is definitely high on the ladder among candidates. Sources tell us that Vince McMahon was, for the most part, pleased with Bischoff's performance as the RAW GM, so chances are he'll be the replacement. Eric Bischoff was last seen WWE television during the December 5th edition of RAW. Khali Injured -- Will Miss Tomorrow's PPV It appears that The Great Khali has suffered an injury, and won't make it to The Great American Bash. This has yet to be confirmed by WWE.com, but it's widely speculated that The Big Show will take Khali's place on the card. As usual, be sure to stop by SDNews.com for the results as they happen live.

Bischoff New SmackDown! GM In a move that may shock some, and may not surprise others, former RAW General Manager Eric Bischoff has been named as Theodore Long's replacement. WWE.com managed to sit down with Bischoff, who had the following to say: "This is fantastic news, Mr. McMahon made the right decision. I was removed from RAW under extremely unfair circumstances, and I hope to make a huge impact as Smackdown's GM as soon as I can. I'm going to show everyone the old Eric Bischoff. The one that had Vince McMahon sweating buckets just hearing about RAW's ratings against Nitro!" When asked about any future plans he has for SmackDown!, he just flashed that infamous grin. "All I can say, is be sure to tune into SmackDown! I guarantee it's going to be the best one you've ever seen!"

Interesting start... I like the name of diary as well for some reason (I think most of the diary names on here, including mine, aren't actually that great). As long as Taker is involved (one of the few WWE guys I genuinely like) I will read avidly. Quote The Raven Nevermore

Thanks, I appreciate that. I thought the title was kinda boring lol but if you like it, that's awesome. As for 'Taker, looking at SD!'s current roster, I'd say he'd HAVE to be involved (even more so than he is currently) for me to keep the SmackDown! ratings up. Not to mention he rocks, and of course he'll be involved ;)

Being held at the UCF Arena, a sold-out crowd of 5,000. Michael Cole: "Welcome everyone to Friday Night SmackDown! Tonight, in a Great American Bash rematch, Gregory Helms takes on Matt Hardy. And in the main event, we'll see former World Heavyweight Champion Rey Mysterio take on Mr. Kennedy." John "Bradshaw" Layfield: "Ah, music to my ears. Former World Heavyweight Champion. Speaking of which, let us welcome SmackDown!'s one and only King; King Booker." -------------------- King Booker and his "court" make their way to the ring, complete with the dramatic entrance and constant "all hail King Booker!" by William Regal on the mic. King Booker: "What did I say? I told you I'd be walking out of The Great American Bash as the World Heavyweight Champion, and I did so. Bow down before your King! But I refuse to be a pathetic Champion like my opponent last night, I am going to defend this thing as often as I can. I will show the world just what a King can do, now bring out my personally hand-picked opponent!" Booker grins as Funaki's music hits. Finlay laughs while William Regal walks over to King Booker and rubs his shoulders. Sharmell sarcastically acts scared, as does Booker, but the most scared of all looks to be Funaki. Michael Cole: "Oh this is real funny!" John "Bradshaw" Layfield: "Shut up Cole! Booker has guts, something you wouldn't know anything about! He could have taken the night off if he wanted, but he decided to stick around and please his fans." King Booker places his hand on Finlay's shoulder. King Booker: "I appreciate your concern, but I think I've got this one guys." Finlay, still laughing, hops out of the ring and walks right past Funaki and up the aisle to the backstage area. Regal pleads with Booker to let him stay, but King Booker just shakes his head. Sharmell and Regal reluctantly follow Finlay up the aisle. -------------------- Rating: B -------------------- Singles Match World Heavyweight Championship King Booker (c) vs. Funaki Booker makes short work of Funaki, dominating him since he stepped into the ring. King Booker finishes him off with a Scissors Kick in 2:42. Booker makes his first title defence. -------------------- Rating: B- -------------------- [A plaque on a door that reads "SmackDown! General Manager" appears on screen. Obviously backstage, the camera heads into the room after the door is opened by none other than Eric Bischoff.] Eric Bischoff: "Welcome." Bischoff flashes that million dollar grin. Eric Bischoff: "In case your rock doesn't have the internet, I have been named as Theodore Long's replacement. I, Eric Bischoff, is the new GM of SmackDown! And first thing is first, I am about to "cut the fat". You see, many times Mark Henry has been given a chance, many times. And, like everything else he does in life, he fails. So I officially announce the release of the World's Strongest Man -- Mark Henry. Don't worry, he should be getting a call soon enough informing him of my decision." Eric Bischoff chuckles. Eric Bischoff: "Henry is gone. Lashley and Khali are injured. Benoit is on the shelf. I think it's time to shake things up here on SmackDown!, so I've hired a couple of people to help fill out the SmackDown! roster. I'm sure they'll make an impact in their own way. Enjoy the rest of the show." -------------------- Rating: B -------------------- Singles Match Sylvan vs. Scotty 2 Hotty Sylvan makes his in-ring return, taking on Scotty 2 Hotty. Pretty evenly matched at the beginning, Scotty even surprising many people with his offence. After being in control for a few minutes, Sylvan shoves Scotty into the turnbuckle and rolls him up, using his feet on the ropes to earn him the victory at the 8:47 mark. -------------------- Rating: D -------------------- We're backstage again in Bischoff's locker room. This time he is joined by an intense-looking Batista. He seems to be demanding something of Bischoff. Batista: "I never lost that belt, and I deserve a rematch! I destroyed Kennedy last night, what more proof do you need?" Eric Bischoff: "Look, Batista, I saw the match. It's just... You didn't actually win the match." Batista grabs Bischoff and shoves him back a few steps. Batista: "I was being generous. And I'm not generous very often, if you catch my drift." Eric Bischoff carefully removes Batista's hands from his jacket. Eric Bischoff: "Okay, I understand. I'll give you a shot at King Booker on one condition; you beat William Regal tonight." Batista: "That's it? Done." A confident Batista leaves the room as we head back to ringside. Michael Cole: "Batista vs. King Booker at SummerSlam for the World Heavyweight Championship? I like the sounds of that!" John "Bradshaw" Layfield: "You heard Bischoff, he's gotta get past Regal first." -------------------- Rating: B -------------------- Singles Match Non-title Matt Hardy vs. Gregory Helms A determined Hardy controls the match for the first 7 minutes, until Helms knocks the referee out of the ring and heads for his Cruiserweight Championship. Hardy snatches it out of Helms' hands and tosses it to the outside. Helms and Hardy are evenly matched until around the 13 minute mark where Helms has enough and starts walking up the aisle. Matt Hardy defeats Gregory Helms in 13:51 by count out. -------------------- Rating: C+ -------------------- Lashley is backstage, not dressed to compete. Bobby Lashley: "As you all know, I was removed from last night's card due to an injury. Elevated enzymes of the liver. Now, I feel fine... But my doctor won't clear me to wrestle. Any injury is bad enough, but just as I was about to regain my United States Championship is the worst timing possible. I don't know how long I'll be out, but I guarantee when I'm back that title is coming home to Bobby Lashley!" -------------------- Rating: B- -------------------- Singles Match Batista vs. William Regal King Booker and Queen Sharmell joined Cole and JBL on commentary. Batista manhandles Regal until the Little Bastard distracts him and Finlay nails him with the shillelagh, but Batista kicks out at two! After another failed attempt to cost Batista the match by Finlay, Regal is nailed with the Batista Bomb and Batista wins in 11:55 by pinfall. -------------------- Rating: A -------------------- Chavo Guerrero is backstage taunting Rey Mysterio over his loss at last night's PPV. Chavo Guerrero: "You want to know why I did it, Rey? Why I cost you the match? What happened has happened, and there's no use crying over spilt milk. Or, in your case, spilt blood." Guerrero laughs. "But seriously, I'll tell you when I want to tell you. Until then, savor the time you have in the ring, because soon enough you'll be forced into an early retirement. Good luck tonight, Rey, I'll be watching." Chavo waves to the camera and walks off. Michael Cole: "What a jerk. I can't believe what he did to his so-called "best friend". Is that how you treat best friends?" John "Bradshaw" Layfield: "Hey, look how I treated my best friend. Now I'm a former WWE Champion while Faarooq is at home sitting on his ass eating potato chips, drinking beer, listening to me on SmackDown! and wishing he had my life." -------------------- Rating: C+ -------------------- Main Event Singles Match Rey Mysterio vs. Mr. Kennedy "Kennedy does the usual "Misterrrrrrrrr Kennedy" deal while Rey unloads on him just after he's finished. Even match until the 8 minute mark, where Kennedy distracts the referee before giving Mysterio a low blow. Kennedy attempts the Kenton Bomb but Mysterio rolls out of the way, giving him the advantage. Rey ends the match in 16:48 by pinfall after the 619 and a Frog Splash. -------------------- Rating: B+ -------------------- Rey Mysterio is in the ring celebrating as Chavo Guerrero appears from the crowd with a chair in his hand, drilling the unsuspecting Mysterio in the back of the head. Kennedy has recovered by now, dragging a semi-conscious Mysterio to his feet, only for Chavo to drop him again with another vicious chair shot. Michael Cole: "What's he doing now?! This is enough, someone stop Chavo!" Chavo Guerrero completes his assault with a Gory Bomb onto the chair, causing Rey to start bleeding from the nose. Guerrero gets up and stares at the fallen Mysterio, laughing as the crowd boo heavily and the show goes off air. I like how you're developing the stories! Bischoff is the perfect heel GM in my opinion - nice choice. Then again, I was an ECW fan so I'm probably biased :D . Booker's Court is potentially the most annoying angle in history (but annoying in a healthy heelish way) and I think you tapped into that pretty well. The whole Funaki idea was a very nice touch. Batista's making a strong return, as I expected, and that can only be a good thing for the main event scene. I think you've nailed JBL's pain-in-the-arse colour commentary and that makes the show feel more authentice (nice one ;) ). Finally, the Chavo/Rey stuff is interesting and I'd like to see where it goes. The only change I would make would be to include pictures and/or a colour scheme just to make things more interesting to look at but content-wise it's great. I'll definitely be reading. Good work dude. Quote The Raven Nevermore

Yeah, I would like to add some colors somewhere. I will try and work on that. As for pictures, that would be nice but I gotta give a break to the dial-up users. Heaps of pictures would take a long time to load for them so I just want to make it a little simple and easy for everyone.

Ooooh supernatural... I like it. Good stuff with the Chavo heelishness. Using Eddies death as a basis for an angle is always controversial but as a heel you want to be controversial! I hope Taker's back full time - that would make things even more interesting. And that ending's got me wondering who was responsible. Kane, maybe, but then he's on Raw. We'll see I guess. Good work. Haha, believe me, if I had access to Kane he'd be destroying everyone on SmackDown! (he's my favorite of all-time after Bret Hart) But anyway, thanks for the kind words, and I'll keep Taker around full-time for sure. (I need to, with the lack wrestlers currently on the roster)

With the recent plague of injuries to SmackDown!, it couldn't have come at a better time, although many people are questioning the choices. Many people would say that both Luger and Hall blew their chances at the "big time" thanks to their unprofessional behavior. So many people are skeptical of the two coming in, or even of these rumors being true. More as it unfolds. Updated on Batista/Booker Feud It's well known by now that these two are anything but friends, even being involved in a backstage fight at the SummerSlam commercial shoot. But sources close to both men say they feel comfortable in their feud, and neither man has caused any trouble or complaints over this current storyline. It will be interesting to see if they can keep their differences aside when it comes time to step into the ring.
Rey's mask on the line? Nice idea... I remember a friend telling me something similar happened with Juvi in WCW (never watched WCW myself though). Another good show, waiting for Taker to make a return :D. Quote The Raven Nevermore
juvi and rey both lost masks in wcw. I am fairly sure jericho won one of the masks (juvi's I blieve) and I roughly remember a tag match in which it was miss elizabeth's hair vs. a mask (I want to say Luger and Nash vs. Ray and I think Konan) only reason rey has a mask now is because WWE wanted another mask to sell besides Kane (back when Kane had one)
