  1. Dang. Probably will still watch it live but I REALLY hope they make Penn/Diaz 5 rounds now. Having that as a 3rd main event and Munoz/Leben 5 a week later would just be crap.

Worst thing is, if Diaz wins he has a huge case for the title shot again. No idea who he'd fight next.

  2. I think it's hard to put Frankie ahead of Aldo right now. They've both (mostly) been edging out decisions in the UFC thanks to their superior striking but the major difference has been Aldo hasn't been getting himself pummeled silly for a round in each of his fights.

For me, my top six would be GSP, Silva, Bones, Aldo, and Edgar in that order. Edgar certainly is a step closer to overtaking Aldo after tonight, but it'll take more than one TKO in over four years to make me put him ahead of Aldo, even if Aldo seems more and more content to just cruise to decisions with his skills.

Oh crap, I forgot about Cruz. I think I'd put Cruz fifth and Edgar sixth. Cruz has been handling his opponents easier than Edgar in a very similar fashion. I wouldn't put either ahead of Aldo, though, because I don't think Aldo's really even been tested yet, while both Cruz and Edgar have had guys get real close to their level lately.

Aldo unconvincingly beat Hominick and Florian by decision, Edgar just KO'd the only man who ever beat him, after beating BJ Penn twice. Size has to count in P4P debates as well, and he's a small dude.

With that said I find it strange that White's campaigning for Frankie to drop down already, surely let him run with this and see how far he goes, he's just beaten possibly the strongest dude in the class...if and when he does get beaten then it's time to drop. With that said, one day I'd love to see him fighting Dominick Cruz.

  3. missed the pettis fight, was it good?

Not great, but had some entertaining grappling. Good to see Pettis bringing in the takedowns in round two. Was worried it was going to be given to Stephens even though he didn't deserve it at all, luckily two judges saw sense.

Maia/Santiago should be good. Really warmed to Maia thanks to the Munoz fight.

  4. It's not that I don't like Jones. I do. It's just that it's the second time another match has been made when a fight with Rashad will have been feasible within like a month of it. Yes it's fair enough he's fighting Machida on short notice but I think the Evans fight is enough of a bigger deal to warrant such a wait.
  5. Jones could probably have waited a month or something. A coupla days ago Dana was all "we want to give Jones some time to rest." It's cool he's fighting 4 times in a calender year but this has happened twice now and I'm just not buying it. The wait would be better than a guy who's last three fights were two losses and a win over Randy Couture.
  6. Where's a better place for MMA betting.

I use Skybet and basically its pick a winner, they dont offer any further bets normally.

Normally they do for a few fights but not until right before the card. Nowhere I've seen is that great, but William Hill is the one which currently has the odds I mentioned up already.

  7. Yeah Le/Wand interests me more than the probable back-of-the-head-beatdown that Belfort would have delivered.

Just watched the 135 countdown show. Can't help but love Jones, and I really really want to see him vs. Rashad in a battle of casual sheer arrogance. Can see him wearing down and breaking Rampage unless he gets clocked early. With that said, looking at the odds...Rampage by KO at over 5/1 seems huge. Jones submission 6/1 and Jones on points at over 3/1 are also pretty tempting.

  8. GSP by Decision.

    Diaz by Decision.

With both of their opponents hoping to cath them with a KO, otherwise they don't outclass the former in any aspects.

Skill wise BJ is better in every aspect.

If I am to read this correctly, which I might not be, are you suggesting that GSP doesn't "outclass" Condit?

I read it the other way around.

I predict Penn, stoppage by cuts late in the second.

  9. Normally, I would agree but I think BJ might be extra motivated enough that he'll shore up his usual deficiencies and try and plug any holes that Diaz could exploit. I think we'll get Condit/Penn in the end, after Condit upsets GSP and Penn beats Diaz.

Ah so you're backing Condit as well? My definite gut feeling when it was announced was that he'll be able to do it.

  10. That all makes sense. I've definitely enjoyed it, I prefer the card now anyway.

If he wins, then yeah, I guess they give him the shot. The alternative is giving it to Fitch, or having Fitch fight Diaz and giving Ellenberger/Sheilds the nod. I doubt that very much though.

Or maybe have Fitch fight Ellenberger/Shields while Diaz fights GSP. Think if Shields wins him vs. Fitch is fairly inevitably because then they can pretty much eliminate the loser from contention forever. And I'd actually be quite interested by it.

  11. @brash, what do you make of twitter theory that this is all some kind of conspiracy and the whole press conference was bull****? Seems like some people will complain about anything, we have a card with Penn/Diaz and GSP/Condit (two better fights) and people are complaining.

Someone however did point out that he's still in a position that requires promotion. Which has led me to believe GSP may have had a very heavy hand in this.

Best part of this is if Diaz wins, they're gonna have to give him the shot again, aren't they? And it's gonna be even bigger. By that point GSP/Silva will be a distant memory.
