Rumours that it could be Marquart!
-
BJ thinks he's fighting on the card still and got given an offer he can't refuse. Intriiiigue.
-
It's his work obligations. If you were told by your boss to go to a meeting and you failed to make it, then he would fire you. However Dana gave Diaz two chances, not one & he still isn't fired.
He doesn't consider this part of his job though. It's just an unwanted byproduct. Fighters on the roster have done so much worse and not been fired. Plus, you know of these risks when signing Diaz. So firing him over this would be ridiculous. Second thoughts over giving him such a huge fight? Fair enough. Even if he showed up, they'd be absolutely ****ting themselves at the thought of him beating GSP. But let the man fight. Him vs. BJ is perfect given the circumstances, would be an amazing fight between two guys who just want to get in there and do exactly that, and there's no severe consequences whoever wins because they don't want either man fighting GSP.
-
nick diaz? he won't be back in the UFC or Strikeforce after this.
Hasn't been ruled out completely. Dana said if it weren't a main event it wouldn't be such a big deal. So I wouldn't rule out other fights.
-
Eh I see GSP picking up an easy win here. Don't see how you think Condit has a better shot at winning. I see GSP winning either way but having a harder time with Diaz.
Because Condit hits harder, hits with more parts of his body and has better TDD.
Just sent Dana a tweet begging for BJ vs. Diaz. Just imagine it.
-
Condit has a better shot at winning. I actually think he can pull it off. Diaz was already in GSP's head and seems like GSP flipped over him missing things, now he's against someone more dangerous on shorter notice, who he knows through the training and so on.
Plus it's in Vegas against an american who isn't Diaz, surely more of the crowd on Condit's side.
-
Oh ****. Man that's disappointing. But at the same time Condit/GSP will be awesome. But damnit Nick.
-
Haven't seen it in a while but I remember thinking it was legit.
What I loved most about that fight was Greg Jackson's "THIS IS ABOUT WAR!" speech to Condit before the final round.

Rory MacDonald vs. Brian Ebersole for UFC 140, that is a good match-up.
Talk about a downwards move.
That seems like the last sort of fight Ebersole wanted and he's basically just being fed to Rory. Makes sense they want to slow Rory down a bit but still, I expect him to be higher up the ladder than this.
Should be a good fight though, if one sided.

Lesnar got Cain down to begin with...I imagine he'll get Reem down, it's a matter of whether he gets back up.
Also Guida vs. Bendo on Fox. So they've got their backup plan sorted if the HW title fight ends in one round, just a shame if it doesn't a lot of people won't get to see this.
-
Ohhhh shiiiit. That is massive. Not sure how I feel about having to stay up till 6 the night before new year's, but hey. One of few fights where right now I genuinely don't care who wins. A Reem KO would be awesome, but Lesnar is Lesnar.
-
Indeed xD
-
lol @ Shogun's manager asking for him to fight Ortiz, must be worried what's going to happen if he fights anyone elite who actually wants to be there.
-
This bigger slot and bigger audience should help people care about more fighters, I would think.
-
I don't think people are going to be that simple minded. You show them a spectacular heavyweight fight, then if they tune in again and see two awesome welterweights, they're not just gonna turn off.
I should think/hope UFC will make their differing divisions and highlight the champ of every weight class briefly in the Fox show anyway.
-
I hope not. I don't care how popular they are, the UFC should not be main eventing a PPV with two gatekeepers both coming off of losses.
Anyway, I'm a big fan of Cain/JDS on Fox. Smart not only for ratings obviously but also to ensure that Fox puts all their marketing muscle behind it. At first I was a little disappointed it's going to be the only live fight, but dedicating the hour will allow them to treat the fight as an event. They can do a nice build-up, the fight will deliver, and they can wind it down with some post-fight stuff. It'll leave people feeling like they really saw something important.
And if it works, I can see them doing it more in the future, like the way people would just watch a big boxing match.

Also, Dana just killed the rumour of Brock retiring. He's definitely coming back, and is up working on a farm in Canada all winter getting his fitness right.
*rocky soundtrack*
He has to fight Mir next IMO.
Meaning - how about Reem vs. Carwin?
Silva for 139 looks about right. Too early for Sonnen if he wins?
-
That is huge. Almost guaranteed to be a good fight. Will be weird with not having the PPV style buildup but still.
Will the Fox events be on ESPN in the UK?
-
Ziggler is the man. Not sure he'll ever be a very top tier guy, numerous obstacles including the ridiculous name, but as a solid eternal heel with several title reigns, I can see it. Just awesome to watch in the ring and not so clueless on the mic that he ruins it.
-
I don't know how to say it any clearer There will be two live fights. Everything else is a prelim. Prelims will air on facebook.
And presumably there won't be any fights anywhere near the level of Nog/Schaub, and there'll be less fights overall. So it'll be regular-sized prelims just a smaller main card. Think that may have been what he was getting at.
-
Tito/Franklin wouldn't be terrible I guess. It's a fight I've been expecting either way, and it makes as much sense in this slot as anything.
With regards to Belfort/Wanderlei...I really, really doubt that's the first Fox fight. Because all due respect everything Franklin is in terms of the image they want to project, Wanderlei is not. Plus, it'll end with another horrifying KO of Wand inside a couple of minutes. I don't want to see that fight full stop, Belfort is coming off a brutal win and Wand a brutal loss, but if it does happen it will not be on this card.
As far as a potential Reem/Mir fight be it on this card or others, would it effectively be a contenders bout? Or are they hoping to do Lesnar/Mir III either way? As far as Lesnar's return I suppose they could very easily book him vs. Carwin 2 for the New Year...
-
Ah, so is that to be a five rounder then? Sounds promising. Shame it isn't the first ever one, that'd have added to the hype.
-
Is Reem well known enough to warrant the Fox slot? Very easy man to hype though. And if he's against Brock...well. Maybe the Brock rumour is a red herring because of this xD
Is the Fox main event after the 5 round MEs start?
My money's still on Henderson/Guida. Guaranteed good fight if there ever was one.

I wish Herb had let the fight go on while he was celebrating. Miller with a German suplex off the cage!
