I just like sports where loyalty, hatred and rivalry play a larger role than in the current day NBA and by expressing this belief I supposedly support slavery, am some kind of dirty commie, am a racist etc etc? It really says more about you guys and your inability to tolerate those with different views from yourselves than it says about my beliefs on anything.

Well I don't know what to say...

I've apologized for the misunderstanding but you seem upset that the misunderstanding even happened even though I've tried to explain why. I'm not the only person who's said that comment could be misconstrued so I don't feel like I was being totally unreasonable there. But again..sorry.

You have the same issues with the music industry and the movie industry. You've said you have issue with the pro sports in your country. You don't like the people that spend money on video games, MLB, the NFL and premier league.

Can you maybe tell us what sport exactly does meet your criteria? Because it just sounds like you're against all major sports. All of them.

Your beliefs are your beliefs but you just seem to be anti-pretty much everything. What would you call that?

Any thread?

Sure other people work very hard for their livings, but the teacher brought up a pretty good point. He probably puts close to the same number of hours in as Albert Pujols, but 50,000 people aren't going to pay 50 bucks to see him talk about elasticity.

While I believe many professions are underpaid, that's not the point here. These athletes are providing a high level of entertainment to a mass of people who highly demand it. The majority of events from the big four in America are sell-outs, or close to it in most cases with a few exceptions. If people stopped showing up, sure these athletes shouldn't get paid what they do. But as franchises continue to bring in huge dollars, and the players are what drive these franchises, it makes sense that they get their cut.

That's it exactly. If you have a problem with athletes getting paid then you basically have a problem with the people who are buying the tickets.

 5.
it was a typo. it was inserted randomly in a sentence when i re-wrote something else. so I deleted it. Again..you're clearly trolling

And it's not the same as..

In fact, I would probably support the NBA more if all of the players were actual slaves and you would occasionally see the coach whipping them during time outs.

Why does that have you upset? Do you honestly not see how that could be misunderstood?

 6.
Now you're just trolling

Again..i misunderstood your intent. But that comment was easy to misunderstand.

I don't understand your POV. I don't hate rich athletes because they're rich. Your entire argument has been that you want athletes to not be mercenaries and not make as much money as possible? Or that possibly they should be more loyal to their home town?

Like i said: I don't think you know that much about the history of sports - specifically the history of sports here - because some of the things you said don't make sense in that context.

I'm sorry that upset you. But every time I (or anyone else) tried to talk about the logic or your argument your response is "blargh regular people do it too" which isn't really a justification because people don't buy tickets to go see regular people work.

So you unless your plan is to create some glorious utopia where all people are all paid exactly the same no matter what they do or their station in life or how much money their job generates, I can't see where you're coming from...

Sorry i don't share your POV

I mean, it's bad enough the whole world is more accommodating to your wants than mine without being insulted on top of that.

There are lots of people with opinions that are in the minority that get completely disregarded and get laughed at or mocked because of it. That's life. Boo freakin hoo.

 8.

While discussing the most logical thing in the world, a multi-billion dollar industry based on abnormally tall people throwing a sphere through a slightly larger hoop. Because those athletes are getting what the owners can afford which means for every player making 5 millions dollars then there's an owner somewhere making 100 times that.

Again..it's like you have a problem with the entire notion of professional sports. Its not like those contracts are getting handed out willy-nilly with no justification.

 9.

You brought up slaves, Pete. Not me. Then you went on to disparage the proud nation of Turkey. Plus I think it's a sad indictment of your nation's preoccupation with race that possible racial overtones of a comment are seen by you as more problematic than the violence and humiliation involved in publicly whipping anyone. Plus, you know, your whole inability to tell when someone is being facetious is pretty sad too, but I expect no better from a racist.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

Bringing up slavery and whipping when in connection to a discussion about a league where the athletes are mostly black has racial overtones. And yes it is more specific to America because of our history but it's there.

Sorry for the misunderstanding your highness but considering your irrational tirade against NBA players and the way you talked about professional athletes for the last few pages, where was i supposed to know where your anger ended and your reasonable arguments began? I guess in Australia it's ok to bring up whipping athletes like slaves and everyone's cool with that.

 10. That's cute...like I said, if you don't get how that "slaves getting whipped" comment could have racial/racist overtones, that's your deal...
 11.

Do you really want an argument on racism on top of being rude? Boo freakin hoo.

You completely missed the point.

Pro athletes have a finite amount of years to make as much money as they can before their bodies betray them. For every one guy who makes that crazy money that irritates you so badly, there are literally thousands who never make it and spend the rest of their lives with their bodies broken by the years they spent trying.

it's a gamble. No one should feel bad for them. But at the same token no one should belie them the rewards when that gamble pays off.

People pay big money to go watch sports. Or movies. Or listen to music. Why shouldn't the person who draws the fans be paid accordingly. because no one is going to a sporting event to watch the ground crew? or a movie to see the key grip's performance? or music to listen to the editing?

People pay for stars.

As for what kind of fan I am? I like winning. Most people do.

Allen Iverson is playing in frickin Turkey this year...for $4 million..you think those fans are complaining because he's 'not local?' Maybe some. Actors in particular, in comparison to most people on a film set, are paid far more than their talent or amount of work is generally worth. Half of the players had day jobs etc and apart from the US imports I'd say half of the teams were made up of local guys and if you bumped into them on the street they would spare a few minutes to have a chat etc. When I look at the NBA, and indeed many major sports these days (including Australian football which is in many ways going in a similar direction to all other major sports) I see a bunch of overpaid sociopathic douchebags chasing money from town to town. I'm sure those guys have always existed in sports, but in major sports at the moment they have become the rule.

That might be the best business model for players and clubs, pay the most money, bring in the best players they can but I definitely think something is lost by sports going in this direction.

That stuff you just described was major sports in the US...back in the 30s and 40s. I can't speak for Australia, but the rest of the world moved away from that model decades ago.

And to me, the idea that the guys who are producing the ACTUAL PRODUCT

THAT FANS COME TO SEE (often times at large risk to their bodies and at great expense to their personal and physical well-being) have to hold down second jobs and work like your average slob while the team owners make millions and millions of dollars is criminally unfair and tantimount to slavery.

Which is why it changed.

Decades ago.

Like I said..if what you REALLY want to see is local guys, playing for local clubs, with local pride on the line, and not making much else outside the thrill of victory, then go watch high school kids play sports.

Some controversial ending will hapen at Turning Point or Devon will lose the match and Bubba will turn on him claiming "he cost them the chance to retire as tag team champions"

Also it was under my impression they were running a profit. 18.
It's pointless because he started out saying that people are complaining in the moment.

So regardless of what he said, his perspective is that our opinions were based on current issues when most of -if not all - the people complaining in this thread has been watching for year.

And the issues he pointed out: relying on washed up stars? the Knock-outs? The X Division?

All of them have been problems for a long while.

So yeah it's fine if he likes the show. But its pretty presumptuous to talk to a group of people that have for the most part been tagging along with TNA since nearly it's inception and say "oh well all your complaints are about problems they are having now but if you'd paid attention they're fixing things and everything's gonna be great down the road"

Yeah, right. Like we haven't heard that before. <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/rolleyes.png.4b097f4fbbe99ce5bcd5efbc1b773ed6.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

TNA has been "full of promise" for years and just keep making the same mistakes. 20. Ummmmm...because that's where the actual team is located and where the fanbase is...? I find it hard to believe that the pro sports teams in Australia run that differently from the way pro sports teams run on the rest of the planet. Honestly, you sound slightly ignorant (and naive) on the subject and it's hard to take your opinion all that seriously.

The owners aren't loyal why should the players be loyal?

Yup

Not sure that has ever been a big factor in the NBA though to be honest.

I dare you to find me an example of a big time modern sport where that IS the case. Or even if it was the case EVER.

I swear I have no idea what's up on the boards...it's like crotchety old man week.

If you want local guys playing for their local team and showing local pride go watch high school.

I could post a dozen of these. Bosh refused to go to Cleveland:

http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/67883/20100706/report_cavs_lebron_working_on_recruiting_bosh/

The same rumours were out there about Boozer and Amare. No one was going to Cleveland if they had a choice. So what was he supposed to do? Stay there and lose year after year after year while Orlando and Miami and Boston got better? How many years did he "owe it" to Cleveland before he was allowed to make a decision about his own future?

 24.

Correct me if I'm wrong though but as much hate as we all (myself very much included) have given them haven't they had ratings increases since moving back to Thursdays and haven't they had some of their highest numbers yet since the Immortal storyline played out?

Or did those ratings tank already and are they back to their magical 1.0 area?

They're @ around a 1.1. Which is slightly above what they were at before the move to Monday. So it's good they got back to that number.

But no significant Immortal boost.

 25.
The writing isn't bad. The pace of the storylines is a little quick, but at least it's not "a-march-through-the-Himalayas slow" like the E's storylines.

For me...it's JJ. I can't stand Jeff Jarrett. I was never into TNA more than when he was gone or when he was stuck in peripheral stories when he returned.

But flipping back to TNA and seeing that hack in segment after segment, being pushed in the central stable of TNA, when the one consistent thing TNA has proved over the years is that no one outside the core fanbase gives a crap about Jeff Jarrett...it's just mind-numbing.

It would be like if the Carolina Panthers still had Jake Delhomme at QB. Yeah he did some good things early on, and maybe at some point you still needed him, and the fans still recognize him, but the guy is a dumpster fire with a history of failures and at some point you just need to move on.
