  1. Re: Jake Forgive the mini-rant... but Jake has always been an important figure for me, at least in my short history as a big fan of the 'sport' (82-86ish). I totally understand that if you had never seen Roberts before his entry into the WWF, the snake would probably have been cool. But... One of the running jokes about the absolute nonsense of Sports Entertainment concerns ol' Jake and that snake of his. I'm sure this has been said before, but Jake was saddled with that reptile when McMahon felt his audience was too dumb to understand that Jake was the snake. If anyone in professional wrestling did not need a hokey prop, it was Roberts. He's coming off some incredible runs in Florida (with Kevin Sullivan), Georgia (with Paul Ellering's Legion of Doom stable), World Class (teaming with Chris Adams & Gino Hernandez), and Mid-South (DDT'ing Terry Taylor through a chair, fighting Lord Humongous, etc.). What do you do with one of the most dangerous/evil/cold blooded men in wrestling? You give him a snake and have him give Andre a heart attack with it. See? Snakes are bad... everyone is afraid of them! He must be a snake, 'cause he carries one around!! Har Har... look at Andre! Blah crappo, I say. I stopped being a fan when he did that snake bit with Andre. Even though I was a teenager, I just knew something was horribly, horribly wrong with that picture. Usually, the great wrestlers start off with dopey props and lose them when they realize that it's not needed (see: Piper). Roberts went the reverse direction and it was borderline insulting to me. That's the long answer, heh. The short answer would be - 'sure'! I could put in some type of pre-match taunt involving Damian, ala the Sheik Camel Walk. ___________________________ Dochappy: About that Figure Four around the post... You'll have to refresh my memory - wasn't that move done with the attacker outside the ring, and the victim inside?
  2. David was probably the most well traveled Von Erich - besides Fritz, of course. He did die on a Japan tour (a frequent occurance for some of the World Class roster), but he also was pretty solid in Florida (where he was a villain!) and the Central States/St. Louis promotions. As he was being groomed as a major player in the NWA, he was required to move around. For that reason, I may leave David as he presently is in this 1.3 update: Written with World Class. Kerry, though (we won't even discuss Mike - heh), will probably join Kevin in being Lifetime members of papa Fritz' clubhouse. My reasoning is that World Class could, in theory, become the Global promotion that WWF becomes. If they would, Kerry would be the perfect lead face. David... I'm still on the fence with him. I really liked him, and think I would rather have him with opportunities open, as far as promotions to work. Now - on to the banal question of the day, heh. Have any of you chaps tried the alternate backgrounds? If so, what do you think of them? I wasn't sure if I should bother with them - but I think some of them are rather funny. If nothing, the blatant messages to Mr. Ryland were worth it.
  3. Thanks, guys -- many of these errors are corrected in the v1.3 update for the scenario, which should be released later today. The first post of this thread has the finer details on what will be included. The Nightmares were fixed; Ted is neutered to being Surprise wrestler exclusive (Rarely/On Hiatus); etc. The Von Erich Boys... I can see your point, Rocky. I had set Kevin to being the lone Lifetime member of the World Class club (in next update), but may rethink that to include David, Kerry, and Mike.
  4. Re: Stat Draining Mr. Ryland will be addressing this issue shortly, friends. Expect an answer within a day, or so.
  5. This is very troubling. I'm pretty much dumbfounded and am awaiting word from Mr. Ryland on this. The only thing I can think of is that his Super Junior style would be limiting him, but even that makes no sense. How can the game dictate how athletically superior someone should or should not be? I'm a fan of capping max stats, but not when it actively undermines a wrestler's starting stats.
  6. First off - let me just thank each and every one of you for your interest in this. I know there are hitches and wheezes hidden within (and a Bear that demands Dr. Pepper), but it's a labor of love; love of nostalgia, and love of this game. The interest in the scenario really blows me away, to be honest. All the kind words of kudos are truly appreciated. I do mean that. Re: Loaded Masks, Leaping Piledrivers, and Bears - oh, my! Rick and I were talking about the Loaded Masks the other day; in particular about my assigning the masked rudos to use the move. That's been one of those 'grey areas' that I have been uncomfortable about. I profess a complete and utter ignorance on the intricacies of the lucha scene. While I know that a Piledriver would be a horribly rudo thing to do, I wasn't so sure on how they handled their masks. Would they use it as a weapon, as many American masked villains would do? I wasn't, and still am not too sure about that. It seems to me that a rudo, like any lucha wrestler, would place too much importance on the mask to use it as a weapon. Still... I took the cheap way out, in that I didn't properly research that; giving the generic sets the Loaded Mask for a sure-fire Finisher on all sizes. If anyone has any info on that, I'd greatly appreciate it. Regardless, the Loaded .... (fill in the blank) moves have been slightly lowered to get them more in-line with the Brass Knuckles punch. Give or take. v1.3 will be released soon with some changes that smooth out much of the gameplay. I'd still like to see that Save Game with Ted winning the WWF Title, though, Rocky. That's, like... Monty Python silly (not to mention incredulous)! I'd hate to neuter him even more than he is. As stupid as it is, I think it funny having Ted around. Much funnier than midgets. Or Kevin Nash.
  7. I'm waiting for verification on Ted winning the WWF Title, as I'm stunned that it's even possible. He's never even been booked by the AI in all of my testing; signed, but never booked - heh. With that out of the way, the funniest experience with Ted I've had was in a first blood match against Ricky Morton. I finally paid him back for all those years of being a teeny bopper. Ted is the First Blood King, dontchaknow.
  8. It would make great sense... if you weren't on dial up - or computer illiterate. I was trying to be considerate.
  9. LOL! That is awesome... Ted the Wrestling Bear beats Howdy Doody; classic. I was just waiting for something like that... OK... as posted on the first post in this thread, the 1.3 Update has Ted going into Hibernation (Inactive/Surprise Wrestler: Rarely). Poor guy.
  10. I have thinned out the movesets using that Leaping Piledriver; especially to the more generic sets (those used by the majority of workers), so we should start seeing a much wider diversity to finisher selection.
  11. Perhaps... but everyone and their dog did use a Piledriver as a Finisher back then - heh. I'll tone it down a tad - but Piledrivers and Sleepers were the Big American Finishers for the majority of wrestlers from about the 50s to the mid 80s. I checked a ton of match results from the time period, and I can not tell you how many matches were won with those two moves.
  12. Oh, man... you beat up The Dean?? Say it ain't so, Midnightnick; say it ain't so!
  13. Thanks, Moon; great pictures, as always. Re: Outside weapons... Many of the weapon shots are outside exclusive for the simple fact that the move progression of grabbing such weapons was too clunky from inside the ring. One could role play it so that they Leave the Ring, grab the weapon, then Enter the Ring - to simulate the process, but I couldn't count on everyone doing that. Allowing the attacker to magically have this weapon in his hand inside the ring didn't make too much sense to me (much like this sentence's structure - heh). By making it outside, I at least could imagine the attacker reaching for the weapon he had brought (or stashed, as in the case of the Freebird Hair Cream) to ringside and nailing the victim in one move. Some weapon shots are inside the ring, though - so I wasn't entirely consistent on that; the Moondog double Bone clothesline, for example.
  14. Thanks for the kudos, MVP; it means a lot. I hope you like the scenario. Just to let you chaps know, I'll be detailing version update change logs on the first post of this thread. I figure it might be nice to see what is coming, if you are one of those interested in such things.
  15. I wish I had saved Mr. Ryland's reply to this problem, as I wouldn't have to paraphrase - but... stat peaking is entirely random from worker to worker; where one guy might peak at 20 mic (or Speed, or whatever), another might peak at 100. It's very unfortunate, but there is nothing that can be done about it at present. I believe that Mr. Ryland will be addressing this in the 1.5 patch - but again, I'm going on 'recall mode' here. Don't quote me. I can see why there is a randomization to the equation; if not, everyone would become superstars. Still, I would like to predetermine the 'future stars' as a scenario maker. This is where an editable hidden potential stat would come in incredibly well for game world makers. Until the issue is addressed, I strongly suggest trying another game w/Lyger. I swear we won't tell anyone; your diary can live!
  16. Heh. I've been using this internet tag for years. In all that time, you are the third person to get the reference. As I am trying to capture Fritz' promotion at its height, I will set World Class' T.V. taping/show as you recommended for the next update. Again, thanks for the info!
  17. Thank you very much for the information on World Class, Tree; it is much appreciated. Living in El Paso for a few months in early '86, I could have sworn the show was on Sunday mornings at around 11AM. I really wish I had been around to catch the 2 hour shows. Speaking of Hernandez... he was always a favorite of mine. When I did move down to Texas, I was very excited to finally get to see the guy on a regular basis after watching him years earlier when he was in Detroit and Southwest. I ended up catching one show - a reshowing of the card earlier in the week where he blinded Chris Adams. That, of course, was the weekend before his death. Figures.
  18. Ok... the Run Time Error was tied into the Card.fis file - so I must have been trying to force too many small events on the promotions. Note: I have included the picture pack that ShootTheMoon has provided into the New Worker zip file. The Read Me reflects his generous contributions, as does the new worker.fis file (all new pictures assigned to workers). On top of that, ShootTheMoon has also provided a generic CWA promotion logo, which I have added to the Logos.zip (located in the TEW scenario files). v1.2 * PPW given a weekly house show; the PX Center Extravaganza (Friday/Poor Visibility) * various Moves tweaks * various Worker tweaks * various Move sets tweaks * Promotion(s) Added: Universal Pro Wrestling (Japan/Small/Seasonal) * Workers Added: Prof. Tanaka, Dan Severn, Ken Shamrock, Masahiro Chono, Kodo Fuyuki, Kintaro Oki, * Movesets Added: Ken Shamrock, Dan Severn, Chono, Toshiaki Kawada * Moves Added: Teioh Lock, Yakuza Kick, Abdominal Stretch Face Lock, Step Kick * Title(s) Added: British Commonwealth Mid-Heavyweight Title (CSW) Sorry about the last problem. Enjoy!
  19. v1.2 is shelved until I get this Run Time Error '63' fixed. Thanks for your patience. v1.1 is back online.
  20. This is a fantastic help, Moon; just fantastic. With the next update you'll receive full credit for these great pics. Thanks a lot!
  21. * High Chief Maivia has been fixed (thanks, Xellence) * The British Commonwealth Mid-Heavyweight Title will be added in the next update. (The Cobra rocked, heh) Again, thanks! * I included both spellings on Liger/Lyger as a play on the fact that everyone seems to spell it differently. Heh. I've always been meaning to go back in and tweak his moveset (which would entail making a few new moves, I believe), but I haven't gotten around to it quite yet. The Running Lyger Bomb was supposed to be for both men... I'm not sure how I let that slip. Anyway - this will be corrected for next update. * Rick and I are including the Universal Pro-Wrestling as the third Japanese promotion (Small). As Maeda was big in this promotion, and had tired to turn it into a MMA fed (basically), we decided to add in a couple of notable shoot-type fighters; Dan Severn and Ken Shamrock. Shamrock is too young at this point, but it fits the general scheme of things.
  22. Fantastic list, ShootTheMoon. It would be nice if we can get those chaps covered. While we are mentioning things without pictures... Polynesian Pro and Memphis (CWA) are the last promotions without logos. If anyone happens to run across logos for these two, I'd greatly appreciate if they point me in the right direction. Magister369... that's my error, on that one. I had forgotten to change the database info version. I'll start naming each downloadable zip with their version number from now on, to further help with any confusion. Xellence... I had not even considered that, about the Japanese promotions. NJPW originally started off a level below Baba's AJPW (as a Regional), but the closer to release we got, the more I thought the two should start off the same. What I failed to realize, though, was that Cult was too high for the rookies. And it is. Rats! I'll talk to Rick about it, but putting Polynesian Pro in Japan is a great idea. While it's not entirely accurate, we already have the World Wrestling Council as a Mexican promotion - so geographic tinkering is not out of the question. Plus, the U.S. will still have local/small promotions - so the loss of PPW as an American promotion wouldn't be that big of a deal.
  23. I can go through and compile a list of all workers without pictures, if you want. I haven't a list off-hand, though; we've just been finding guys as we go along. Whatever pictures you might be interested in contributing, let one of us know. It would be a great help.
  24. The TEW to WreSpi data converter did seem to make some questionable calls on weight classes. Being the American that I am (heh), I have been trained to think of someone like Nick Bockwinkel (about 240 pounds) as being a 'Heavyweight'. I believe that the WreSpi scale is more along the lines of boxing, though, where a 240 pounder would be a Middleweight. I think. Rick and I attempted to get as many of them reverted to their more ideal weight classes, but some of them fell through the cracks. I do agree with you on Callous. I had thought I changed him to Large Heavyweight, but forgot about it along the way. I have done so for the next update. Sharpe? I always picture Mike Sharpe as being that hovering midcard heel in Mid-South. While he was taller than most people, he was a lot skinnier than he would later be as WWF enhancement. He was built much like Ted Dibiase, now that I think of it. It's a tough issue, to be sure. If Mark Callous, Sid Vicious, and Hulk Hogan would be Large Heavyweights - Nikita Koloff, Barry Darsow, and Steve 'Dr. Death' Williams are Heavyweights - and Nick Bockwinkel, Roddy Piper, and Ric Flair are Middleweights, where do you put Ted Dibiase? Dibiase is taller than Flair, but 'smaller' than Dr. Death... Middleweight, or Heavyweight? Some calls that we made are probably questionable. We'll go back through them and try to make better judgements on those 'in betweeners' for the next update.
  25. Just the DOTT v1.1 download, Doc. All that is really needed is the files themselves. 'Suprise Wrestler' - Just some silly 'worker' hidden amongst the others. Starts with a 'T', heh.
