If you had to set up a ranking system, starting from scratch, how would you set it up? After that, how would you determine what win is worth more (how would you differentiate between 2 or more fighters with identical records)?
-
Maybe, but doesn't it lead to someone possibly saying: I'll watch RAW on Monday (or something else) because I know I can catch Impact on Thursday? It's kind of like giving something for free and then being surprised when people don't want to pay for it.

Don't see the point of the encore presentation, but I'm sure they know what they're doing.
-
I'm excited about one of them, and it isn't Kendrick.
-
No reason for it to happen really. She's not cheating on him. Nor was she the first time.
-
But enough to influence the ratings?
-
Lazor, yes, I guess in that case my definition of showcase was to put them at the forefront of the company. I don't follow it enough now, but I could see them doing what you say, of putting one really good X matchup a night.

Could it be he means from the "WCW/ECW" alliance? Because of that list, about 4 achieved nothing of mention in their time in WCW.
-
Very much like the Rumble in that respect.
-
But how special was it when it wasn't drawing viewers when it was being showcased? This is different than it being good/bad. It's an indy promotion on TV. They have to cater to what the mainstream want to see if they want to be mainstream. ECW was edgy and innovative, but it was never mainstream.

The Nats are doing the right thing to win right now, they could very well win 80 games this year.
Which will still be 5th in the NL East.

Poor Donovan...what did he do in a past life to deserve all this?
-
Because Heyman was so successful with money (also part of running a promotion).
-
Ok, I'm stealing this for my non-WWE dynasty.
-
I'd mark out for a Bob Backlund-like Cross face chicken wing. Would it be more effective if he just let go and walked out after the bell rang (declaring him the winner)? Or if he held it just long enough to not get disqualified?
-
I'm reading that to mean that some people don't want WWE (ratings remain close to same), but some people are turning away from TNA (ratings down). Maybe the novelty of Hogan wore off.
-
I meant most "fans" probably considered the luchadores more entertaining that what the Main Event scene of WCW was offering at the time, but the "ratings" didn't support that. I have my doubts as to how accurate the ratings system is, but whatever.

I remember looking at some site a while ago, where they had a record of these things. They didn't have Benoit as a draw (or non-draw). But in that month they had up there (February 98), Bryan Adams had the highest average quarter hour on Nitro. Bagwell was up there. And WWE had a strong showing by Tom Brandi (what the hell was he doing in February 98?).
Back on the Benoit thing (and I wish I could see these numbers), those who jumped weren't drawing fans in (according to the quarter hour numbers). Most would say they were much more entertaining than Hogan, Savage, and Nash. Would never know judging by the numbers.
-
Why the insistence on quarter hour ratings? Back in 98 at one point certain "average" wrestlers were outperforming (by that metric) a lot of the big names. In fact, Mike Graham even had a quote on Benoit leaving that went along the lines of "Good. He didn't draw a dime." -- based on individual quarter hour ratings for the wrestlers.

He doesn't need to win NXT. I see him challenging The Miz after NXT for the title on Smackdown. They'll reserve the "Winner of NXT Season 1" for someone who actually needs the push (maybe that Otunga kid).
-
May very well be true...but I refuse to pay for television. I'm certainly not the demo they're after.
-
Not sure how many networks "stagger" the commercials. A lot of times when flipping at my parent's house, there's absolutely NOTHING on. Same goes with radio stations.
-
I remember there was a HS pitcher in my hometown years ago that fit that description of being a switch pitcher. That was awesome.
-
Doesn't it also come down to the fact that people cheer winners (at least in WWE), so if a heel keeps on winning he'll end up getting cheered (i.e. the bad ass Brock Lesnar).
