  1. Here's a conundrum I am facing that I'm sure other people have a solution for.

Chris Caulfield is the inaugural World Champion in my touring promotion after the first tour (4 touring events, 1 normal event). The other 2 division (Tag and Women's) have baked in storylines where as a fan it would seem unlikely that the champs would lose at the next big event, but with the right build, maybe.

My second tour is centered around finding the #1 contender to his title, so the bulk of my Major Stars and Stars are tied up in that. The finals of the tournament are at the big event, so the winner fighting him that night is out of the question.

    Some options:

    • Bull Wrecker - he's feuding with Jesse Christian looking to bury the "Southern" legends in my company. (I expressly brought them in to build the undercard as I syphon away their overness). It's a little soon for a title match, but Jesse Christian could cost him the match to set up Match #2
    • Java or Tribal Warrior - they are feuding with the McWades, so if I make this happen it would probably be mid-tour to set up the McWades' first defense.
    • Jack Griffith - I could see Bull Wrecker attacking him prior to the match, thinking that he should have gotten that shot
    • Ozzie Goldstein - he's pretty low on the card, but I'm sure the match would be worthy of main eventing. Even with much lesser competition, Caulfield has had pretty good ratings (for my fed).
    • Bring in Federique Garcia or someone from PSW - I have a bloated roster, knowing that a good portion will probably retire or be in time decline soon, so it will sort itself out. I just don't want to bring in someone short term just to release them.

Down the line I do want to set up an alliance with both FCW and PSW, but that won't be for several months still.

I like it. Hope there is a production improvement and they get a better stage too.

Pretty sure I've mentioned it here before, but I remember watching some of the Pandemic era clips and I could just not get into it - the way it sounded just took me right out of it. Even NXT (in a comparable sized arena - or what seems to be comparable size) sounds a lot...cleaner? better? Not sure how to describe it.

  3. Looking to book my first 10-man round robin tournament. It's my second tour, so the champ is newly crowned. In my mind I already have who the winner of the tournament will be, as it will get him a title shot. But the question I have is - should I populate the tournament with only Stars and Major Stars, or would you book 2 guys that are lower down the card to see how they perform against top competition? There is the off chance that someone gets hot and makes me change my plans.

I do have some tournaments (maybe not round robin) scheduled later on which will be more like a proving ground for the workers that are Recognisable/Unimportant to try to work them up.

  4. Seems like they don't have a clear vision or strategy. And I've heard all the reasons for/against the 6-sided ring, but it set them apart. I do prefer "Impact Wrestling" over "TNA Wrestling" though. TNA was fine at the start, it fit with the times, but they always had to clarify that it was "TOTAL NONSTOP ACTION" #miketenayvoice. I don't know, but if you have to clarify what your initials stand for because it may not be palatable to advertisers or broadcast partners, maybe you picked the wrong ones. To each their own.

Since Texas was the foremost rancher state back in the mid-to-late nineteenth century, this trio could be the Longhorn Hunters. Pete is the grizzled, stoic veteran who knows when to strike weakened opposition, Hangman is the reticent powerhouse Pete sends in whenever he needs someone destroyed, and Wes is the deranged backwoods survivalist whose insatiable appetite for new prey always threatens Pete's leadership.

Alternatively, I had a stable in my short-lived US deathmatch company called "The Drunk Syndicate". So you could just use that instead.

I really like that breakdown - gives me some extra details to work into their characters. Especially Wes and Pete. Not sure how quickly Pete will get poached (it depends on when USPW loses someone usually) but it gives me something to work towards if I can get Wes over enough fast enough to take over.

Incase you're looking for more options you could go the Yellowstone route and look for names of Texas ranches.

    - The Kings Ranch

    - Four Sixes (6666)

    - East Fork Trinity (its a river down in Texas and you have three guys)

    - Lone Star Gang

    - The Longhorns (Kind of already mentioned above.)

    - The Stockman (If they are faces and Outlaws when they turn)

Not sure why it never occurred to me to go that route. There's a lot of great names there.

AEW Dynamite did really poorly in the ratings again this week. 609,000 probably is the worst rating they've done in recent memory. And the company did everything (except book MJF in action) to get people tuned in.

NXT beat them by over %50 this week.

While I'm critical of AEW, I've always been cheering for them to succeed. I'm worried about their viability at this point.

The live attendance numbers and ratings the last couple months have been pretty poor even if the in-ring action has been solid.

They can always hang their hat on the demo. But in all honesty, AEW is going nowhere. It wasn't a great look, but it was a stacked NXT. Everything Tony did to try to counter it though seemed like overkill if we are playing the result.

LU did a lot of the hardcore gimmick matches, which might be a bit over your national TV audience's head. The American media appetite for gritty violence did not start until a bit later in the 1990s. So for your first few seasons I would go more fun comic book vibes, like the animated Batman TV series that everyone loves. Then you get darker with each passing season. Also, people at this time were ready for the lucha style: remember what an unexpected success AAA When Worlds Collide was in 1994.

Who would make a good Cueto? That's actually really tough. Dario had a very specific sort of menace to him that's hard to replicate, and he wasn't even in the acting business at this time according to IMDb. I'm tempted to say just make a user character named "Dario Cueto" and give him the stats and attribs you think are appropriate. Terry Gordy could be a stellar Matanza if you can get him past his issues. Otherwise you could get Gary Albright.

Would Dr. Death (under a mask) be suitable?

One thing I loved about LU were the movie style vignettes and backstage segments. It had a very unique feel. I don't honestly see anything wrong with using a Paul Heyman or a Bischoff. Heyman would have the better stats from the jump, but I could see Bischoff wanting to do something different. Could even treat it as a "real" alternative to the top companies, as opposed to trying to directly compete from the start.

  9. Booking team! I have a question for way down the line in my save, but something I could start planning. Running a touring promotion with a weight split. Right now, it's Middleweight and up heavy, so my Cruiserweight division (Lightweight and below) is a little lacking. That may even out when my older stars retire.

However, I had a thought of down the line merging the "Heavyweight" and "Cruiserweight" Titles into just the World Title and getting rid of the weight restrictions. If I do that, I would like a second belt that would be specific to something, but not by weight. Maybe something like the US Title and it has to be defended against workers from other regions, or Intercontinental titles that have to be defended against workers from other game areas...Open to suggestions!

  10. I run test games - OK, what really happens is I hire the same folks and then I realize I don't have a cohesive story to tell so I keep restarting. My first few shows are usually the same matches, and I let the computer decide the winners the first time around. Always happens the same way. So when I decide to start a game for real, I don't choose the winner because it's going to be the same outcome as always. Yeah, except it wasn't. Now that I do have a particular story in mind the game decides to throw me a curveball. By my own doing, of course. I could have booked the winners I needed, but didn't see the need.

    No DQ (Halloween Havoc 1992)

And if you're going to build a long term program with them, they could lead teams in a War Games match.

You know, it's impressive that Roderick Strong has enjoyed a two decade plus career in pro wrestling despite being dull as dishwater.

Well, for a long time he was in promotions that leaned heavily workrate. I think he would have fit in the Dean Malenko role in a more entertainment focused setting if he just leaned into the less expressive side. I've enjoyed his work, but it has its limitations.

It was announced Mike Tenay and Don West are getting inducted into the Impact Hall of Fame and ya know, that's just awesome. Don West wasn't a good commentator, but he was a hell of a pitch man. He talked my brother, who is insanely stingy with his money, into spending almost $300 at a TNA house show. I spent closer to $400.

I know Tenay is enjoying his retirement, but I really miss him on commentary. He was always passionate and knowledgeable.

This is a story I'd love to hear. What's interesting is that I never *noticed* Don West wasn't a great commentator BECAUSE he was so passionate. It wasn't a Mike Adamle situation where he wasn't good and he wasn't passionate. Same with Adnan Virk. That probably falls on the company for hiring them, but still.
