1. I'm playing WCW in 2001(starting in Jan, not may), and I have no idea what to do with Dustin Rhodes. I want to do something with him, but I have no concept of him of a character/wrestler outside of Golddust, and his younger, generic southern babyface days. If my memories of WCW at that time are right, he was just kinda there. I don't need a story-arc or angle or anything, just a character, or personality, to give me a direction to go with him.
 2. OK, so, I signed a TV deal with a Mexican TV network. On my next show, it didn't show up in the list of broadcasters, and afterwards, the contract length didn't change. By all accounts it looks like my show isn't being shown on this network. I notice there's a coverage conflict involving this network and another network both covering Puerto Rico. So I go into the editor and remove the Mexican network's coverage in Puerto Rico. My show still isn't being aired on the Mexican network. I removed Puerto Rico from the US Network's coverage ass well, and my show still isn't airing on the Mexican network. I have no idea why my show isn't being shown on this network, and I can't figure out what to check or change to resolve the issue. I'm starting to think it might even be a bug.
 3. Man, I was all excited for my ECW Lives game, then a little less than a year in I realized it was probably going to follow the exact trajectory of my TNA 2004 game. Now I've lost all interest in that save. I think I might do WCW in 2001. Even though I've done it before in one of my longest games, I realized that was back in TEW2007. Hopefully this game can 1)hold my interest and 2) be interesting and different from my other games.

Booking JCP in '87.

Im two months in and things have been going excellently. All the starting storylines ive done with and am now starting with my own. Im going to use the go to feud of Dusty v Flair for the Title, figure I can drag this out for a few months till my November Starrcade, allowing me to build up some other contenders, Simmons I'm liking the look of, maybe even Sting if the tag don't work out so well.

Made a couple of signings most notably the The Warrior and Sting (as already mentioned), who are teaming as the Blade Runners and Curt Hennig.

I've had to change my plans for Curt as I was bringing him in to partner Rick Rude as the team Perfectly Ravishing, but not long after id signed Rude to a written contract he tested for drugs, Ive sent him to rehab and hes back in 3 months, so for now im just keeping Curt busy and when Rick comes back I will still team them (Meaning Manny gets dropped by Rick).

However im now leaning towards a stable of Hennig, Rude, possibly me (Heyman), a Female (I'm thinking Medusa but I've got Kat LaRoux and shes been performing really well for me and shes in house already) and a big menacing guy (thinking sign Sid Vicious), it'd be a kinda early Dangerous alliance and would get Heyman out from behind commentary into the managers role. My biggest dilemma for that is who I then partner Jim Ross with, as I signed him PPA and the two have been working well so ideas welcomed as who I could look at as a colour man

In my 1987 game, I kept Heyman on color commentary until Bobby Heenan's WWF contract came up, then signed him. I'm not somewhere where I can look at the data, but as wide as the talent market is in that mod, there's gotta be someone with competent color commentary skills available to be hired.

Also, hope you have better luck with Rick Rude than I did. Sent him to rehab twice and he still kept showing up to shows In No Condition To Perform.

 5. It's Late 2001 and former top-WCW talents are starting to come off of their previous Time Warner contracts. The first signing? Disco Inferno, who would win the WWF Light Heavyweight title on his first night with the company. The WWF has not shown any interest in Rey Misterio Jr, who's Time Warner contract ran out that same week.
 6.
It's the end of Summer 2001 and the WWF has found a new enemy and declared war... on a tiny Japanese indy.

As for what's going on in my company, I'm starting to get the feeling that giving megapushes to a bunch of freelancers probably wasn't the best idea.

 7. Looking for suggestions for a stable name for Taka Michinoku, Masato Tanaka, and Yoshihiro Tajiri in 2001 ECW. Currently thinking of "The Bird, The Bullet, and The Buzzsaw", but that probably won't fit into the character limit.
 8. I said 4 years because that's how long my WCW game lasted. It's the longest game I've ever played in TEW(or EWR[or even Promotion Wars]), and, I'm hopeful this ECW game will last just as long, if not longer. Also: NJPW in the1987 mod is pretty much playing on Easy Mode when it comes to match quality.
 9.
It's 1990 and Ted DiBiase has just won his first NWA World Heavyweight Championship by making former champion Ricky Steamboat submit to the Million Dollar Dream to win not just the title, but the War Games match between The Million Dollar Mercenaries(DeBiase, Terry Funk, Stan Hansen, and Mark Callous) and Team Dragon(Steamboat, Sting, Lex Luger, and Dusty Rhodes). Elsewhere in WCW, The Steiner Brothers are looking to regain the World Tag Team Titles from Ric Flair and Arn Anderson, Terry Taylor is on a run that may not only define his career, but the United States Title, and the hottest competition may just be in the Cruiserweight division, with the title bouncing back and forth between talented young stars like Dean Malenko, Jushin "Thunder" Liger, Jerry Lynn, and The Ultimate Dragon.

Meanwhile the once dominant World Wrestling Federation has fallen far from their former glory, with WrestleMania VI drawing only a crowd of 24,000, less than half of WCW's Starrcade 3 months prior. Sure they may have the three biggest stars in the world in Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, and Roddy Piper, but as far as an overall wrestling show, they just haven't been able to put together the same quality, or the same ratings, as WCW. Ratings for WWF's premier prime-time showcase RAW plummeted from 11 million on it's debut in 1988 to an average of less than 3 million in 1990, causing NBC to cancel their contract with WWF. Comparatively, WCW's ratings averaged around 5 million around RAW's debut, and have climbed to about 24 million in 1990. It seems Uncle Ted is quite forgiving, as he has given Vince and the WWF a home on TBS. At 2:05am Eastern, Friday Night, right after Monster Vision with Joe Bob Briggs.

So, I'm kinda bored with that game. I tried starting a RoH modern-day game, but just couldn't get into it. That the mod I used was seemingly created with a "Kids these days don't know how to work" philosophy didn't help. Though last week I was listening to an interview with Paul Heyman and started to wonder... What if the Pay-Per-View companies paid him the 2.5 million ECW was allegedly owed in 2001?

What if WCW went out of business but ECW didn't? What if Paul hired a Prototypical genetic specimen from Southern California? What if The Sinister Minister started preaching the gospel of The Fallen Angel? How would the ECW Faithful react to a pimple-faced kid with a homeschool haircut and a seemingly God-given ability to make his opponents tap out? How would they take it if some obnoxious Punk from Chicago started telling them everything that they liked was bad and terrible?

Hopefully, I can get another 4 years out of this game, like I did that WCW game.

 10. Man, I wish I woulda've thought to do this in my JCP/WCW game that also started in 87 and is currently in the second half of 1990.
 11.
Haku is too good for this group, and Lanny Poffo is on a written WWF contract.

With how his stats are built in The Golden Age mod, there's no reason Luger couldn't be huge star in a pop>perf company like WWF. I think I've been fortunate with how much he's grown in my game, both in terms of his ring work and mic skills. It may have to do with a combination of a high destiny roll(maybe? No idea), being early in his career so he's a fast learner(I think. Not 100% this is a thing), and constantly working with the best in the business-Flair, Anderson, DeBiase, Funk, and so on. Even becoming flabby has only hurt his SQ by 4-5 points.

 12. Welp. Greg Gagne has an F- in heeling, and time decline has been taking a bat to his already limited skills, so that ideas out. Decided to go with Zybysko(who apparently has terrible chemistry teaming with Tully Blanchard) and Sid to round out the group. Thinking about bringing back Dark Journey to manage them.
 13.
I like the Greg Gagne idea. the AWA has been dead for a while in this save, so he's probably unemployed, or on a PPA deal with CWA or USWA or something.

Y'know, you disparaged Lex Luger, but in this game, he's actually developed into one of the better overall workers in my company. He's a solid, respectable #3 guy behind Flair and Sting. The only guys with a higher Brawl stat are guys like Terry Funk and Stan Hansen. He's also fat in my game, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

 14. In my WCW game that started in 1987 and is currently in 1990, I've split up the Four Horsmen. Flair and Arn on one side, Tully and Bobby Eaton on the other. I've decided, that while Arn and Flair are off doing their own thing of being amazing, Tully and Eaton are going to form The New Horsemen. The idea of this is to be an obvious knock-off/pale imitation group, so I don't want anybody that's too good or too popular. I'm not sure who to include as the other two members. My leading options currently are: Larry Zybyzsko- I haven't been able to play much in the past few weeks, and I'm typing this at work so I can't look at my save file but I might have just turned him face. If not, he's a leading candidate and the embodiment of "Good-But-Not-Good-Enough" Kendall Windham - Competent, but a long-time jobber, though it'd make a nice symmetry to former Horseman Barry Windham. Don Muraco - Formerly one of the top heels in the company, his popularity, and his abilities, have been gradually declining over the years. Formerly a big part of Ted DeBiase's Million Dollar Mercenaries, he's been fading into the background since that stable dissolved about a year ago. Manny Ferndandez - A staple of the midcard since the beginning of my game. Teamed with Don Muraco for a time, and served in the Million Dollar Mercenaries along side him. Scotty The Body - A recent graduate of WCW's developmental program, he's overall talented, but hasn't really found any success or popularity. Flapjack Norton - In a similar situation as Scotty The Body. Sid Vicious - Another recent developmental graduate. He's not a good worker, his promos are kind of rambly and incoherent, the fans dead silent during his handful of matches, but just look at 'im! Stan Lane - After the Midnight Express broke up and Bobby Eaton joined the Horsemen, Stan Lane has been a midcard babyface that hasn't had too much success. This might be a good opportunity for a Midnight Express reunion.
 15.
It's the dawn of 1990, my game started in 1987, and I actually feel kinda bad for the WWF. The only new talent they've signed has been midcarders stolen from me when their contracts came up- Shane Douglas, Johnny Ace, Big Bubba Rogers. RAW is main evented most weeks by some combination of Junk Yard Dog, Iron Sheik, Paul Orndorff, and Randy Savage. Bret Hart is in mid-card purgatory. Hulk Hogan and Roddy Piper are the 2 most popular wrestlers in the world, but they're barely ever booked.

Meanwhile, guys like Ted DeBiase and Shawn Michaels stayed in their home regional companies until they died, then I signed them because it was obvious the WWF wouldn't, and names like Mark Callous, Rick Martel, Rick Rude, Owen Hart, and John Tenta are making names for themselves in Japan.

It's no wonder they've fallen to cult and RAW got kicked to the graveyard slot.

Kinda similar thing is happening in Mexico. Guys like Konan, Vampiro, Rey Mysterio Jr, Psicosis, Heavy Metal, and a few others have been unemployed since their debuts.

 16.
Thanks for calling the WCW Wrestling Hotline! For the Ross Report, Press 1. For Jim Cornette's Insults of The Week, Press 2. For Paul E. Dangerously's Pay-Per-View Recap For Cheapskates, Press 3. And for a Special Message from Sting, Press 4.

*Deet*

Welcome to the Ross Report. This is the day alot of you fans have been waiting for. If you read any of the magazines, fanzines, or have recently called in to any of the other wrestling hotlines out there, you've no doubt heard rumors surrounding the recent departures of some of our athletes. Specifically, Johnny Ace, Big Boss Rogers, Shane Douglas, and The Freebirds. Some say we're 'hemorrhaging talent', that there are morale problems in the locker room, or that we can't afford to match the rival offers from up north.

He's the truth behind the situation. Wrestling is a business. When the contracts of Ace, Rogers, and Douglas came up for renewal, Head of Talent Relations Paul Jones made them an offer for what he and the WCW Executive Committee thought they were worth. The competition gave them better offers. Paul Jones went to the higher-ups to match or beat these offers, and the Executive Committee refused. It's not that we couldn't beat New York's offers, it's that, well, as one unnamed member of the Committee said 'They need them more than we do.' Again, their words, not mine. Now, as far as rumors of poor morale, well, Johnny Ace brought pizza for the whole lockeroom on his last night.

As talented as these men are, WCW has what I would say is the most talented top-to-bottom roster in the history of the sport. We'll miss these men, but this just gives more opportunity for some of our younger talent, like Jerry Lynn, Dustin Rhodes, Cactus Jack, not to mention the fresh talent developing in our farm league down in Georgia.

Thanks for listening. Call back next week and I'll tell you about a Stunning young man from Texas that just signed up to our Development Program.

*Doot*

Allright, you recording? I'm only gonna do this once.

Paul E Dangerously was so ugly as a baby, his mother breastfed him through a straw.

When Sting was a kid, his parents gave him a radio and a toaster for bath toys.

Lex Luger is so fat, last time we were in New York him and Sting went to the top of the Empire State Building, planes started to attack 'im.

When Paul E Dangerously was born, the doctor took a look at 'im, turned 'im over and said "Look, twins!"

Ric Flair is so old, his insurance company only sends him half a calendar.

Paul E Dangerously's so ugly, when he opens the door on Halloween, kids hand him candy.

Lex Luger is so fat, last time he went to the beach, people tried to roll 'im back into the water.

OK, last one, Paul E Dangerously is so stupid, I told 'im "Next time you call me, if I don't pick up, leave a voicemail." 2 days later I catch 'im yellin' into my mailbox.

*Beep*

So, you're too cheap to buy a Pay-Per-View, but you're too impatient to wait for WCW Magazine? We'll you're in the right place! This is Paul E. Dangerously's Pay-Per-View Recaps For Cheapskates!

Here's what you missed on WCW Vs The World:

17,000 Japanese fans packed into the Fukuoka Kokusai Center for a show featuring not just WCW superstars, but some of the top talent from both major wrestling companies in Japan.

In the opening bout, Jushin Thunder Liger defeated Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, and the defending champion The Ultimate Dragon for the NWA Junior Heavyweight title. It may not seem like it for US Fans, but this match was a big deal for the Japanese wrestling audience. It was the only match with representatives from both New Japan Pro Wrestling, and All Japan Pro Wrestling, with Dean Malenko representing All Japan, Liger and Benoit representing New Japan, and The Ultimate Dragon being the hottest lightweight free-agent in Japan.

Next, Tiger Mask and Toshiaki Kawada of All Japan defeated Scott Hall and Shawn Michaels by disqualification. This up-and-coming duo were simply too much for Hall and Michaels to handle. They weren't prepared for the stiff kicks and devastating chops common to the Japanese style of wrestling, and got themselves disqualified by flagrant interference from their manager Mike Rotundo.

Chigusa Nagayo defended the NWA World Women's Title from Wendi Richter. Wendi may be the most popular female wrestler in the States, but Nagayo is even more popular here in her homeland. The Japanese crowd was happy to see her defend her title.

Then, we had Lex Luger defeat New Japan's Masahiro Chono. Chono-san has been pegged as one of Japan's future superstars. Only in the business for 5 years, he's already won three prestigious tournaments and a variety of singles and tag titles. Even with all this, The Torture Rack was still too much for him.

After that, The Road Warriors defeated Terry Funk and Akira Maeda. US fans may not know it, but both The Road Warriors and Terry Funk have a long history in Japan, All Japan specifically, and the fans in Fukuoka were excited to see them again. This was a wild, bloody match that ended with Terry Funk on the wrong end of a Doomsday Device.

Following that was the even wilder, even bloodier, Stan Hansen and Bruiser Brody vs. The Steiner Brothers for the NWA World Tag Team Titles. Man, Hansen and Brody's entrance was a sight to see, Brody waving an All Japan flag, Hansen swinging a bullrope around, going through the crowd, terrorizing the fans. Our lawyers won't let 'em do that here in the states. Anyhow, a great match that ended with the adopted local heroes winning the championships with a King Kong Knee Drop.

And then we had Curt Hennig take on Yoshiaki Yatsu in a technical showcase. Yoshiaki Yatsu is arguably the best mat technician in Japan, being both a former Olympic Athlete, and holding New Japan's Grand Prix Heavyweight Championship for most of this year. He and The Perfect Athlete put on a mat-based masterclass for the attentive Japanese crowd.

Next up, we had another Olympic Athlete and a champion across 3 companies and 2 countries, Riki Choshu take on the Human Stampede that is Vader. This match was my pick for the hardest-hitting match of the night with both competitors throwing stiff shots and seemingly trying to break the ring with their power bombs and powerslams. The end came when Vader couldn't recover from an extended Sasori-Gatame, that's a Scorpion Deathlock to you, and was counted out.

Then we had a big match for the Japanese crowd, with Ted DiBiase facing All Japan's Genichiro Tenryu. For Japanese fans, these two men have a long history. Tenryu made his debut against a young DeBiase in 1976 after being sent to train in Texas. They more recently feuded a few years ago, ending with Tenryu successfully defending the NWA United National Championship against DeBiase. On any other show, this would've been the match of the night, an overall masterpiece of an athletic competition that came to an end with DiBiase using a smartly concealed and expertly applied pair of bass knuckles to get his win back.

In the Semi-Main-Event, Sting defended the NWA World Heavyweight Championship against Hiroshi Hase. Hase has a lot in common with Sting- Both have been in the sport for about the same amount of time, both are naturally likeable, charismatic, and have become exceptionally popular with their respective audiences during their short careers. Though while Sting comes from a body building background, Hiroshi Hase is an Olympic wrestler, 10th best in the world in 1984, and while Sting has spent most of his career in WCW, Hase has travelled the globe, spending time in both major Japanese companies, as well as Canada and Puerto Rico. If I'm honest, and I always am, this match was a little underwhelming. I mean, it was good, but sandwiched between two masterpieces like it was, kind of highlighted their inexperience.

And finally, in the main event, The Nature Boy Ric Flair vs Tatsumi Fujinami. This. THIS was an all-time, for the highlight reels, fans will be going back and re-watching this again and again for decades, absolute pinnacle of the sport. It had mat-wizardry, it had blood, it had near-falls, near-submissions, it had everything you could possibly want in a wrestling match. One of the best matches I've ever seen in my life and if you don't put down $19.95 for the home video release, you can turn off WCW forever and go watch Hulk Hogan flex for 10 minutes and hug his opponent for the other 2 minutes of every match because you're not a real wrestling fan.

That wraps it up for WCW vs The World. Call back in a month or so for all the news from Starrcade 89 that you were too cheap to see live!

*doot*

Hey kids, it's your old pal, The Stinger. It's winter time again, while that may mean great times playing in the snow, always be careful around frozen ponds, lakes, or rivers. They may not be as sturdy as they look. If one of your friends does fall in, don't go on the ice, that'll just make it worse. Find a branch or something to help pull them to safety. Remember kids, be careful around frozen bodies of water, you might just be skating on thin ice.

 17. I am in need of a name for a stable of Terry Funk, Stan Hansen, and Bruiser Brody in 1990 WCW.
 18.

Officially wrapped up year 2 in my WWF 1987 (Now 1989) game and to say WrestleMania V was a success would be an understatement. WrestleMania V was my first ever 100/A* event in my history of TEW. To sound like a complete nerd, I literally jumped out of my seat in excitement over it. But it's pretty awesome. So here's the story so far

At the start of December 1988, WWF went ahead and purchased the failing JCP. Almost right on cue, WCW rose up. Unfortunately for WCW, WCWA and myself locked up a lot of former JCP talent to written deals when they were PPA and then I took the scraps I wanted. Which included Dusty Rhodes, Lex Luger, Ric Flair, Big Boss Man, Heidi Lee Morgan, and Misty Blue Simmes.

Out of curiosity, what does WCW's roster look like in this situation?

 19. Quick update: USWA has been founded on schedule, at the beginning of August, 1989. Still not sure why those other companies haven't been founded.
 20. The promotions, and their potential founders are: POWW-Powerful Women of Wrestling Should have opened:Sept 1987 Potential Founder: David McLane- unemployed since dec 1987, was owner of GLOW during Sept 1987 PPUK-Premier Promotions Should have opened: Dec 1987 No Founder Specified USWA-United States Wrestling Association- Should have opened: Aug-1989 Potential Founders: Jerry Jarett(Employed, PPA Contract) and Fritz Von Erich(Unemployed since Jun 1989) Wild West Wrestling Should have opened: Aug1987 Potential Founder -Ken Mantell(unemployed, Employed as PPA during Aug1987) When going through this data, I realized I was in the last week of July, 1989, so USWA should open at the beginning of the next month?
 21.
I've been playing The Golden Age mod since it came out, and have played through over 3 in-game-years, and I haven't seen any new companies open. There are several companies in the data that should have opened between the start of the game, March 1987, and my current date of August 1989.

I'm wondering what could be causing the companies to not open. It can't be that there's too many active companies, there are only 4 in the US right now- 2 national, 2 regional.

Sullivan signed for WWF and left. Luger has been repeatedly getting pins when tagging with Hogan. Luger celebrated with the fans after a main event win prompting Hogan to complain about Luger showboating and Luger arguing back that Hogan always showboats, eventually having a pull apart brawl.

Now Halloween Havoc features Flair vs Hogan. Tully Blanchard surprisingly appears as Arn Andersen's partner in a match against The NAsty Boys.

So, I've been teasing a Luger turn bigtime but in reality always planned to turn Savage against Hogan but now I'm not sure exactly how I want to do it.

Do the 4 Horseman reform to help Flair win the strap from Hogan? Previously Pillman was teaming with Andersen and somewhat become an unofficial Horseman. Do I have Luger come to the ring to distract Hogan or save him from the Horseman and then have Savage turn? join the Horseman?

How would you do it? Could you see Savage as a Horseman?

You could have him as a Horseman, but not for long. Ignore what happened in the WWF between him and Flair. One of the most common motivations for Savage, as a character, has been resentment for being overshadowed by someone else. Have him turn on Hogan, join the Horsemen, and everything's fine, and they're all buddies. And then slowly, cracks develop. Maybe Savage feels like kind of the outside man in the group because Arn and Flair and Tully go way back. Maybe he start's not liking how Tully looks at Elizabeth. Maybe he starts getting envious of Flair having the title, and since he and Flair are friends, he's not even in contention for a shot. Figure out what will be the final straw that breaks him away, then feud Flair and Savage.

 25.
Jim: Fans, if you missed it on Pay-Per-View, now's your chance to see all the action from the year's biggest tag-team wrestling event.

Paul: That's right JR! Now available from Time Warner Home Video, it's the 1989 World Tag Summit!

Jim: Tonight on World Wide Wrestling, we're gonna be running down the whole tournament, and give you a preview of what you could be seeing if you buy the 1989 World Tag Summit

1989 World Tag Summit Preliminary Round

The Steiner Brothers(Rick & Scott Steiner) vs. The Faces of Fear(Meng and the Barbarian) - The Barbarian holds the record for the most unique partners in the World Tag Summit, first teaming with The Warlord in 1987, then Johnny Ace last year, and now fellow Tongan, Meng.

Paul: The Steiners came into this tournament with a mission. Earlier in the year, they've had close-but-not-good-enough matches against top teams like The Brainbusters and The Road Warriors. They showed up to the Denver Auditorium determined to establish themselves as a marquee team.

Jim: And let's not diminish the Faces of Fear. They've only been teaming for 6 months at this point. I think with a little more experience as a team, they could really be a force to be reckoned with in the tag team division.

The Rockers(Shawn Michaels & Marty Jannetty) vs Public Enemy(Rocco Rock & Johnny Grunge) - Even though he's been a singles competitor since his debut here in WCW, Shawn Michales has actually spent a good part of his career in a tag team, winning regional tag titles here in the NWA, and in the now-defunct AWA. The NWA Junior Heavyweight Champion, Shawn Michaels, wanted to take part in this tournament, so he made a phone call to his old friend.

Paul: Y'know, I like these Public Enemy guys. They're inexperienced, but I think they have potential.

The Rock N Roll Express(Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson) vs Kevin & Kerry Von Erich - It's been a rough few months for the tag-team stalwarts, The Rock N' Roll Express. They've been out of the title picture for some time. Against two of the best and brightest from Texas though, they showed why they're one of the best of all time.

Paul: Fun fact, one of the Von Erich's is missing an appendage! Bet you can't guess who's missing what!

The Road Warriors(Hawk and Animal) vs The Dudes With Attitudes(Terry Taylor and Shane Douglas) - The Road Warriors came into this tournament looking to re-establish themselves at the top team in WCW, having only a couple months ago lost the titles, after a dominant run I might add, to The Brainbusters.

Paul: And I'll give them credit, despite the dumb haircuts, put aside the skateboards, and the goofy sunglasses, these two are slowly but surely maturing into great competitors. But they're not good enough, not yet, to beat the best.

The Twin Towers(Big Boss Rogers and Officer Mike Grey) vs The Nasty Boys(Jerry Saggs and Brian Knobbs) - Not a whole lot I can say about this one, folks. This was a hard-hitting affair from bell-to-bell.

Paul: Kinda ironic, don't you think, that a couple 'a cops used illegal tactics, not that I don't condone it, to win this match?

Genichiro Tenryu and Jumbo Tsuruta vs The Fantastics(Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) - Tenryu and Tsuruta representing our friends in the east, All Japan Pro Wresting. They're also the strongest tag-team in all of Japan, holding the NWA International Tag Team Titles for a little over two years, defending against international stars like the Von Erichs, Ted DeBiase, and Stan Hansen.

Paul: And boy, did they show it against the Fantastics. Y'know, there's some juicy backstage drama behind this match, and if you wanna hear all about it, just call the Wrestling Hotline at 1-900-909-9900. Kids, get your parents permission... Or don't.

Ted DeBiase and Don "The Rock" Muraco vs Rayo de Jalisco and El Dandy - Bit of a history lesson here, Ted DeBiase came in to WCW in late 1987, claiming that with his vast personal fortune he would build an army. He promised at Clash of Champions IV that he'd unveil The Rock on which he'd build his army, and that's when Don Muraco made his WCW debut, helping DeBiase beat The American Dream Dusty Rhodes. They weren't active enough as a team to be eligible for last years tournament, but after a string of, let's call it controversial, victories, they were given a slot in this years World Tag Summit.

Paul: On the other side of the ring, from Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre, are the Mexican National Tag Team Champions. They put up a good fight, but DeBiase was the smarter competitor.

Jim: If by smarter, you mean, punched El Dandy with brass knuckles while Sherri Martel distracted the referee...

Paul: Exactly!

The Brain Busters(Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard) vs Lex Luger and Sting - I know you'll correct me if I'm wrong, Paul, but I believe this is the first time a reigning World Champion has participated in the World Tag Summit. The Brainbusters were the odd-on favorite to win the tournament, having won it last year, and entering into the tournament as World Tag-Team Champions. It was an electrifying contest and would be the main event on any other card. The tide shifted in favor of The Brainbusters when Vader appeared from the back to attack Sting.

Paul: So, we're not gonna talk about the 270lb gorilla in the room?

Jim: Paul, you know Gorilla works up north, and I hear he's actually lost a bit of weight recently.

Paul: No! No! I mean Lex Luger!

Jim: What about him?

Paul: Look at him! The Lex Express has a spare tire!

Jim: That may be, Paul, but he's still on of the top athletes here in WCW. Unlike in some other companies, it takes more than muscles to make it to the top. In any case, we'll be back a little later to go over the semi-final round, but first, we take you back to TBS Studios in Atlanta Georgia where Dustin Rhodes and Kendall Windham are set to take on The Malenko Brothers.

1989 World Tag Summit Quarter Final Round

Jim: Welcome back fans, as we continue to run down the 1989 World Tag League. In between rounds on the first night, the live crowd got an intermission while the fans at home watched pre-taped interviews by the tournament participants. Backstage was a whole other story as Ted DeBiase and his Million Dollar Mercenaries viciously attacked Genichiru Tenryu and Jumbo Tsuruta, trying to either soften them up, or outright eliminate them from the tournament.

Paul: And they did a great job! Tenryu and Tsuruta were ruled medically unable to compete! We found out later that Tenryu was beaten so badly, he wouldn't be able to return to the ring for a month.

Jim: The WCW Executive Committe quickly announced that they had an alternate team on stand-by to take on DeBiase and Muraco. DeBiase was unfazed, stating in a pre-match interview that he had a back-up plan.

The Road Warriors vs The Twin Towers - A hard hitting affair from start to finish, with The Road Warriors once again proving why they're two of the best.

Paul: Don't take anything away from the Twin Towers, though. Did you see that crescent kick from Big Boss Rogers?

The Brainbusters vs The Rockers - A good effort by the young competitors. Like they say, there's no shame in being beaten by the best.

Paul: For a second, I almost believed they had a shot at winning. Then, y'know, the spinebuster happened.

The Steiner Brothers vs The Rock N Roll Express - Some people are calling this match the upset of the tournament, with The Steiners making good on their promise to establish themselves.

Paul: Not me! You may not realize it, JR, and you fans at home definitely don't realize it, but between this, and Sting beating Ric Flair at Clash of Champions VII, we're witnessing the dawn of a new era in pro-wrestling. The biggest tag team of the 80s, beaten by the men who, mark my words on this, will be the tag team of the 90s.

Ted DeBiase and Don Muraco vs Terry Funk and Stan Hansen - This was definitely the most controversial matches in the tournament. Funk and Hansen have been at odds with DeBiase and Muraco since the beginning of the year. Each time they've met in the ring DeBiase had gotten the upper hand through duplicitous means, so they were eager to get their hands on The Million Dollar Mercenaries.

Paul: On top of all that, Terry Funk and Stan Hansen have a long history with All Japan. They wanted to carry the banner of All Japan for the fallen Tenryu and Tsuruta. Ever always thinking 2 steps ahead, DeBiase financially encouraged referee Teddy Long to be more impartial towards DeBiase and Muraco than usual.

Jim: He bribed the referee is what you're trying to say, Paul, and this wasn't the first time. After a lightning-fast three count, senior referee Tommy Young came down, ejected Teddy Long from the match, and re-started it under his authority. With the playing field even, Funk and Hansen picked up the win.

Paul: Before the match, Tony Schiavone asked Terry Funk what their team name was. According to Tony's notes, the official name for their team is "Get Outta My Face You Rat Livered Snake Faced Egg Sucking Dog". Good luck fitting that on a T-Shirt.

Jim: Well, fans, we gotta go to commercial. When we come back we'll be back at TBS Studios to see Malia Hosaka vs. Tina Ferarri.

1989 World Tag Summit Semi Final Round

The Steiner Brothers vs The Road Warriors - You wanna talk about toughness, you wanna talk about physicality, this is the match to see.

Paul: And another star of the past is a little bit dimmer, thanks to The Steiners

The Brainbusters vs Terry Funk and Stan Hansen - This match is almost a polar opposite of the previous match. A very methodical, very technical match between four veterans.

Paul: Terry Funk pulled out holds he probably hasn't used in a decade!

Jim: Me and Stan Hansen go a ways back, and I don't think I've ever seen him do as much mat wrestling as he did in this contest. In the end, DeBiase and Muraco came to ringside and cost Funk and DeBiase the match. The Brainbusters would go on to the finals, and Funk and Hansen and DiBase and Muraco would face each other one more time next month at Slamboree. We'll be back later to cover the final match, but first, here's Ron Simmons vs Michael Wallstreet.

1989 World Tag Summit Final Round

Jim: Before I forget to mention, we're offering an exclusive, two volume, collectors edition of the 1989 World Tag Summit.

Paul: You won't find it in stores! The first volume has all the tournament bouts from night one, plus a never-before seen 10-woman battle royal!

Jim: Volume Two contains not just the tournament matches from night two, but all the exhibition matches from the live Pay-Per-View event, featuring Johnny Ace, Curt Hennig, The Warrior, and a show-stealing match between Barry Windham and Dusty Rhodes and The Horsemen Ric Flair and Bobby Eaton.

Paul: Call today! 1-800-257-1234! Or send $30, plus $5 shipping and handling to World Tag Summit. PO Box 7500, Atlanta Georgia.

Jim: And we must apologize, but no C.O.D.s will be accepted. Now, let's get to the final match.

The Brainbusters vs The Steiners - I don't think there are two teams more evenly matched in this entire tournament. All four men accomplished technical wrestlers. All four men tougher'n anyone else you'll ever meet. Both teams have a powerhouse in Scott Steiner and Arn Anderson. What this match should have come down to was youth against experience. Sadly, the Horsmen wouldn't let that be as Ric Flair and Beautiful Bobby Eaton came down to ringside to tilt the tables in favor of Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard.

Paul: The match descended into chaos, with Tommy Young losing complete control of the match. Thankfully, he let the match go on, no one wanted to see this tournament end in disqualification. Sadly, Sting took time away from his busy schedule of visiting sick orphans to come down to the ring and help The Steiners. He even managed to pull Lex Luger away from the catering table to help.

Jim: With the odds even, the tide quickly turned against the Four Horsemen. Sting and Luger managed to corral Ric Flair and Bobby Eaton to the back, while The Steiners won this years World Tag Summit with a Steiner Device.

That about wraps it up for this edition of World Wide Wrestling. Thanks for joining us, and we'll see you next Saturday at 6:05, 5:05 Central for WCW Saturday Night!
