In a bout that had fantastic heat and good wrestling, Umanosuke Ueda [6] defeated Tiger Jeet Singh [0] in 11:32 by submission.

Ueda was able to get some personal retribution for his loss in the last 'B Block' event with a victory over Singh. Ueda noticeably wasn't as active in trying to get any sort of dirty disadvantage over the returning Singh.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Mitsuharu Misawa [4] defeated Ashura Hara [0] in 14:23 by submission.

Misawa's early momentum was halted by Hara, who delivered a chop block to Misawa then followed up with several successive slams to daze the young Misawa. Hara was able to capitalize with some offense for several minutes, but Misawa was soon able to find a second wind as he started to take over the match. A running forearm downed Hara long enough for Misawa to lock in a modified cloverleaf for the win.

In an exceptional match, Giant Baba [8] defeated Kodo Fuyuki [2] in 16:21 by pinfall with a Big Boot.

Baba kept Fuyuki on his toes through the match and was in thorough control through the match. Fuyuki was able to get in some offense in sporadic bursts, but Baba was able to reverse the momentum with just a snap of the fingers at times.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Genichiro Tenryu [8] defeated Dory Funk Jr. [4] in 25:34 by pinfall with a Powerbomb.

Both Tenryu and Funk kept it close in the first half of the match with both men failing to get a decent enough grasp of control of the match. Funk's technical prowess allowed him to gain control of the match around the 15-minute mark, but, Tenryu's pure grappling skill provided him the opportunity to escape and punish Funk with a various suplexes. Funk was able to drop Tenryu and locked in a Texas Cloverleaf on Tenryu just after the 20-minute mark of the match and nearly submitted Tenryu, but the homegrown star was able to reach a rope for the break. Funk continued his momentum through the rest of the match, but a strong forearm from Tenryu left Funk dazed enough to drop him with a Powerbomb.

In a solid opening match, Chavo Guerrero [2] defeated The Great Kabuki [0] in 11:35 by pinfall with a German Suplex.

Fairly even opening contest with both men getting an equal share of offense throughout it. Guerrero was ultimately able to grab his first two points of the tournament with a German Suplex just after the 10-minute mark.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Atsushi Onita [4] defeated Masanobu Fuchi [6] in 16:59 by pinfall after using a foreign object.

Onita brought Fuchi's momentum crashing to a halt with this upset of a victory in a match that Fuchi thoroughly controlled. Given how successful he was in his previous Champion Carnival match with his dirty tactics, it really was no surprise to see Onita going back to the same strategy for his next match up. Fuchi was close to locking Onita down with a Joint Torture Hold on several occasions, but Onita always found a way to escape from the setup. As the fight spilled out to the floor, Onita had Kyohei Wada distracted long enough to knock the ring bell over Fuchi's head to knock him senseless. After rolling his opponent into the ring, Onita made the cover to get his second victory in two nights.

In an exceptional match, Harley Race [5] drew with Stan Hansen [5] in 30:00 when the time limit expired.

An even match throughout all of its 30 minutes, Race and Hansen each appeared to have an answer to the others' attacks - preventing one man from gaining enough momentum to put the other down. A fall was nearly made just after the 25-minute mark as Hansen was able to drop Race with a piledriver of his own, but the PWF World Heavyweight Champion was just able to get a shoulder up. Hansen stayed on the attack to the end of the match, but just wasn't able to connect with the Lariat for a win. As the timekeeper signaled the conclusion of the match, Hansen was visibly frustrated as he has now gone two consecutive matches without a win.

In an exceptional match, Terry Funk [4] defeated Jumbo Tsuruta [6] in 28:09 by pinfall with a Piledriver.

Another match that stayed even throughout most of it, Tsuruta began to string together enough offense prior to the 20-minute mark that it appeared he was about to put Funk down with a Backdrop Suplex. Funk had other plans, however, as he was able to escape a Backdrop Suplex attempt and summoned all of his strength to whip Tsuruta into the corner. Tsuruta just wasn't the same after that corner whip as he appeared to be favoring his back. With the NWA United National Champion no longer at 100-percent, Funk was able to string together plenty of offense and was able to drop Tsuruta with one Piledriver, but Tsuruta just managed to kick out. The singles champion wasn't fortunate enough to be able to kick out of the second Piledriver, however.

Tenryu still had plenty of energy to use as he was able to easily escape from Fuyuki's grasp and in turn hit a sidewalk slam on Fuyuki that changed the balance of the match. From there, the match turned into a contest between Tenryu and Fuyuki to see who could hit the other the hardest as both men exchanged heavy slams along with heavy strikes to see who would buckle first. After a high-angle brainbuster, Tenryu had dazed Fuyuki long enough to drop the youngster with a Powerbomb to stay perfect through three nights of the Champion Carnival.</em></span></p><p><span style="color:#000000;"> </span><span style="color:#000000;"><strong>RATING:</strong></span><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="color:#2E8B57;"><strong> 77</strong></span></span></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p><span style="color:#000000;"> </span></p><p> </div></p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>_____________________________________________</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="46953" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">'A Block' Standings after Night 5 of 15</span></strong><p> </p><p> Jumbo Tsuruta: 6 [3-0-0]</p><p> Masanobu Fuchi: 6 [3-0-0]</p><p> Harley Race: 4 [2-1-0]</p><p> Stan Hansen: 4 [2-1-0]</p><p> Atsushi Onita: 2 [1-2-0]</p><p> Terry Funk: 2 [1-2-0]</p><p> Chavo Guerrero: 0 [0-3-0]</p><p> The Great Kabuki: 0 [0-3-0]</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="46953" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">'B Block' Standings after Night 6 of 15</span></strong><p> </p><p> Genichiro Tenryu: 6 [3-0-0]</p><p> Giant Baba: 6 [3-0-0]</p><p> Dory Funk Jr.: 4 [2-1-0]</p><p> Umanosuke Ueda: 4 [2-1-0]</p><p> Kodo Fuyuki: 2 [1-2-0]</p><p> Mitsuharu Misawa: 2 [1-2-0]</p><p> Ashura Hara: 0 [0-3-0]</p><p> Tiger Jeet Singh: 0 [0-3-0]</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>_____________________________________________</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="46953" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><strong>siah463: 6/8</strong><p><strong> BHK1978: 6/8</strong></p><p> joshbrady91: 5/8</p></div></blockquote>

A backdrop suplex from Hansen nearly succeeded in keeping Fuchi down for the count, but the smaller wrestler just managed to get a shoulder up in time. An attempt at a follow-up Lariat from Hansen resulted in Fuchi locking the brute into a crossface that was soon transitioned to a Joint Torture Hold. Hansen was able to hold out for awhile in the hold, but it was clear that he was making no progress in being able to escape from the hold. With that, Kyohei Wada called for the bell, handing Hansen his first loss of the tournament. A bewildered Hansen immediately rose to his feet and started chasing Wada around. Baba's lanky frame allowed him to slip away and grab a hold of Funk though and make him pay with some overhead chops and a headlock of his own. Funk soon realized he was going to have to retool his strategy if he were going to stand a fighting chance against the giant. Funk then opted for a direct attack right to the knees of Baba as he would continually slip behind the giant and chop block him down to the ground. An early attempt at a Texas Cloverleaf shortly before the 15-minute mark was thwarted as Baba managed to kick Funk away and straight through the ropes to the outside.</em></span></p><p><span style="color:#000000;"><em> Heading out to the outside to retrieve Funk, Baba was caught by surprise with several forearms on the outside before being shoved ribs-first into the ring apron. Funk immediately pounced on the returning Baba with stomps as he then tried to choke him out with a sleeper hold. Baba nearly faded to the hold, but found a second wind as he powered his way to his feet and took Funk down with a fireman's carry slam. This time, it was Baba's turn to inflict punishment as he booted Funk in the head as he was getting to his feet. A second attempt by Funk to get to his feet was met with a Running Big Boot by Baba as the giant then made the pin for the victory.</em></span></p><p><span style="color:#000000;"> </span><span style="color:#000000;"><strong>RATING:</strong></span><span style="color:#000000;"><span style="color:#008000;"><strong> 75</strong></span></span></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p><span style="color:#000000;"> </span></p><p> </div></p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>___________________________________________</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="46953" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">'A Block' Standings after Night 3 of 15</span></strong><p> </p><p> Jumbo Tsuruta: 4 [2-0-0]</p><p> Masanobu Fuchi: 4 [2-0-0]</p><p> Stan Hansen: 4 [2-0-0]</p><p> Harley Race: 2 [1-1-0]</p><p> Terry Funk: 2 [1-1-0]</p><p> Atsushi Onita: 0 [0-2-0]</p><p> Chavo Guerrero: 0 [0-2-0]</p><p> The Great Kabuki: 0 [0-2-0]</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="46953" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">'B Block' Standings after Night 4 of 15</span></strong><p> </p><p> Genichiro Tenryu: 4 [2-0-0]</p><p> Giant Baba: 4 [2-0-0]</p><p> Umanosuke Ueda: 4 [2-0-0]</p><p> Dory Funk Jr.: 2 [1-1-0]</p><p> Kodo Fuyuki: 2 [1-1-0]</p><p> Ashura Hara: 0 [0-2-0]</p><p> Mitsuharu Misawa: 0 [0-2-0]</p><p> Tiger Jeet Singh: 0 [0-2-0]</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>___________________________________________</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="joshbrady91" data-cite="joshbrady91" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="46953" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Two really good shows <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="alpha2117" data-cite="alpha2117" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="46953" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Love this old school fed it's just terrific stuff</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Thank you both!</p>

In an exceptional match, Genichiro Tenryu [2] defeated Ashura Hara [0] in 13:29 by pinfall with a Powerbomb.

In his return to in-ring action, Tenryu was in control through the duration of the match, but Hara's pure resilience kept him in the contest past the 10-minute mark. That resilience would only take him so far though as he was on the receiving end of a Powerbomb after the 13-minute mark.

In an exceptional match, Umanosuke Ueda [2] defeated Mitsuharu Misawa [0] in 15:16 by submission after a roll-up following a low blow.

Misawa tried to right his momentum from his loss to Hansen at Excite Series by staying on offense through his opening Champion Carnival match - a feat he managed to accomplish. Misawa continued to stay on the attack through the match but just couldn't find enough to put Ueda down. Ueda was able to get in some offense of his own at times but was never able to make enough to fully grab control of the match. With Kyohei Wada distracted late, Ueda was able to nail Misawa with a quick shot below the belt and then rolled him up for the unpopular victory.

In a solid match, Dory Funk Jr. [2] defeated Kodo Fuyuki [0] in 23:54 by submission with a Texas Cloverleaf.

Funk tried to make the match a technical one from the get go with various standing holds to slow the younger Fuyuki down. Fuyuki's powerhouse of a frame allowed him to escape though and in turn impress his elder with some submission-based holds of his own. Fuyuki soon realized his strength was going to be in turning the match into a brawl as he started to hammer into Funk with a barrage of overhead forearms and various standing clotheslines. Funk would keep finding ways to escape once on the ground though as he'd just manage to be nimble enough to escape his opponent. Nearly getting a three-count with a running powerslam, Fuyuki tried to finish the match with a Fuyuki Special II, but was never able to get it locked in on the tag team champion. Funk was soon able to counter though as he swept the legs of Fuyuki and locked in a Texas Cloverleaf of his own. Fuyuki was close to escaping on multiple occasions, but he finally had to verbally submit to the submission.

In a great match with excellent wrestling and great heat, Terry Funk [2] defeated Harley Race [0] in 25:43 by pinfall with a Piledriver.

Funk and the PWF World Heavyweight Champion each had an effective counter for the other's attempts at offense through the match with neither man able to gain an advantage in the early portions of the match. A missing charging elbow into the corner by Funk proved to be the opening Harley Race needed however as Race then focused on keeping Funk grounded. Funk was able to escape after awhile and started to take the fight back to Race with a standing striking contest. Race cut off Funk's attack and brought him back to the ground again where he once again tried to wear one half of the NWA International Tag Team Champions down. A rope break brought the match back to even again where a shock DDT from Funk nearly brought him the victory just after the 20-minute mark. In the closing minute of the match, both Funk and Race went back and forth trying to drop the other on their head with a Piledriver, but it was Funk to prevail in that contest as he opened his Champion Carnival with a victory over the PWF World Heavyweight Champion.

Misawa took plenty of notes following this time limit draw with Hansen in the final tag match before the Excite Series's concluding night - pushing Hansen to his limit throughout the match. Hansen clearly wasn't taking this challenge lightly, as his usual aloof attitude towards the youngsters he faced was completely absent through the match. Each hold or strikes Hansen attempted to throw, Misawa had an effective counter for. The match appeared destined to go towards another time limit draw, but Hansen just managed to down Misawa with a surprise Western Lariat after Misawa attempted to send a message and land a second Running Elbow in a row. Misawa could have simply gone for the pin after landing the first one, but perhaps his appetite for sending a message transcended common sense at the time. In a great match, Giant Baba defeated Atsushi Onita in 23:55 by pinfall with a Big Boot.

Onita actually stayed on his best behavior in the beginning of the match as he tried to keep his efforts clean against Baba. Specifically targeting the legs, Onita kept attacking the side and back of Baba's knee to soon enough bring him to the ground. Baba was able to adjust his strategy at this and made sure to drop Onita with quick heavy-handed strikes at each opportunity he had when both men were standing. Onita glanced over at a steel chair set up at ringside as those in attendance who noticed this began to boo him. Onita refrained from using the foreign object as instead he returned to the ring to try and beat Baba with his agility instead. The size disparity proved to be advantageous for Onita for awhile with him being able to out-maneuver Baba, but ultimately a Big Boot would be his downfall shortly before the 25-minute mark.

    **POST-MATCH**

After getting his arm raised by Kyohei Wada following his victory, Baba waited for Onita to get to his feet. Once the AJPW Dojo graduate did recover and was standing on his own power, Baba extended a hand forward to offer the young man a handshake. Onita merely stared at Baba for a little bit, but instead chose to drop down and roll under the bottom rope before heading straight to the back.

In an exceptional match, Harley Race defeated Chavo Guerrero in 26:54 by pinfall with a Piledriver.

Guerrero held his own throughout Race, something that didn't appear to take Race by surprise whatsoever. The champion entered the match fully recognizing Guerrero's capabilities and thus he didn't allow himself to stay down for long once Guerrero began to get on a roll. The challenger appeared to have to done his homework on Race as well as he was able to keep up the pace with the ring veteran. Guerrero nearly ended the match just past the 15-minute mark as he managed to get himself and Race standing on the ring apron where he attempted to hit a German Suplex on the apron, but Race just managed to escape the maneuver. Race in turn tried to hit a Piledriver on the apron, but Guerrero managed to kick himself out of the hold as instead he arm dragged Race to the outside mat. Guerrero tried his best to capitalize through the remainder of the match, but Race's resilience simply wouldn't allow him to be beat. Finally getting his Piledriver to connect just shy of the 27-minute mark, Race pinned Guerrero to cement his status as the PWF World Heavyweight Champion entering the Champion Carnival.

**Harley Race makes defence number 25 of his PWF World Heavyweight title.**

Onita: Ever since I graduated from the All Japan Pro Wrestling dojo, I feel I have been overlooked... and I'm tired of it! I know I have the ability to reach the top of the ladder in this sport, I just need that one chance... that one opportunity. At the conclusion of the Excite Series tour, I'm going to take that opportunity. For the final night at Excite Series, I wish to challenge none other than Giant Baba!! Baba, I await your response.

Fuyuki and Fuchi's youth allowed them to run rings around Singh and Ueda in the early stages of the match, however, a shady punch to the throat from Ueda evened up the odds as his side soon began to take over the match. The young Fuyuki was unfortunately the one to take the loss for his side as Singh finished him off with a Cobra Twist a few minutes before the 15-minute mark.

Fritz's son took it to Funk Jr. with a flurry of offense through the opening minutes that caught the veteran off guard. Funk's attempts to grab a hold on the agile youngster only proved to be successful half the time as Von Erich continued to out-maneuver Funk. Ultimately, Funk's experience began to pay off as he kept Von Erich trapped on the ground for a time before finally getting the victory with a Texas Cloverleaf.

In an exceptional match, Harley Race and Stan Hansen defeated Jumbo Tsuruta and Mitsuharu Misawa in 24:33 when Stan Hansen defeated Mitsuharu Misawa by pinfall with a Western Lariat.

The match became one of pride as both remaining singles champions in AJPW - Tsuruta and Race - tried to remain as the legal man for as long as possible with both trying to prove their superiority over the other. Neither man could ever get a true advantage over the other, so they each tagged out to their respective partner. Misawa, still motivated to even the odds against the now absent Bruiser Brody, fought with a tremendous ferocity against Brody's longtime friend Hansen; but, a late mistake allowed him to get caught by a Western Lariat for the loss.

Ueda's assault continues for several moments before he's shooed away by ringside personnel. I initially took the stance of not interfering with that stuff as it could make for good storyline potential (ie, Brody jumping to NJPW... although he was due to have his contract expire midway through this tour anyway), but there's several freelancers presently employed that I (potentially) have big plans for.</p>

BREAKING: Bruiser Brody Walks Out on All Japan Pro Wrestling

    KkFoIvi.jpg?1

    92x9Qv8.jpg?1

In what was nothing short of a shocking development just weeks after the conclusion of the New Year Giant Series tour, NWA International Heavyweight champion Bruiser Brody announced that he had signed a touring contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling, effectively ending his tenure with All Japan Pro Wrestling. Brody was reportedly intent on bringing the NWA International Heavyweight Championship with him to New Japan, however, All Japan and NWA officials were hellbent on making sure that was not so. Brody reluctantly relinquished the title belt in late-February, with the title currently being held vacant. Brody's move threw a wrench in All Japan's booking plans for their next tour that stretches from March to July with reports from close to those in the booking committee that their plans to unify the NWA International Heavyweight and NWA United National Championships will have to wait until the end of the tour.

As for what will happen with the NWA International Heavyweight Championship for now, All Japan and NWA officials are keeping their mouths shut.

As for Brody? Well, needless to say, All Japan officials certainly aren't looking to have him back anytime soon. One official went off the record in telling us "If it were up to me, you would never see Bruiser Brody work in All Japan Pro Wrestling ever again." It has been suggested that All Japan is a bit more wary about bringing in freelance wrestlers now, with only three touring contracts being offered for their upcoming spring/summer run.

    Puroresu News

    All Japan Pro Wrestling

    • AJPW has signed Magic Dragon, Kazuo Yamazaki, Shiro Koshinaka and George Takano to two-year pay-per-appearance contracts. Accepting touring contracts for the spring/summer tour were Tiger Jeet Singh, David von Erich and Kevin von Erich.
    • The touring contract of Mil Mascaras expired shortly after New Year Giant Series. As broken earlier, Bruiser Brody also left All Japan for New Japan Pro Wrestling shortly after the completion of the New Year Giant Series tour.

    New Japan Pro Wrestling

    • Several new faces are set to make their debuts for New Japan with American stars Ric Flair, Ted Dibiase, Bruiser Brody and the upstart Randy Savage inking touring contracts with Inoki's company.
    • A large amount of talent were shown the door from New Japan, however, as Adrian Adonis, Hulk Hogan, Masanobu Kurisu, Black Cat, El Canek, Kazuo Yamazaki, George Takano, Haruka Eigen, Fumihiro Niikura, Abullah Tamba, Gran Hamada, Shin Arakawa, Hidenobu Kanda and Jesse Ventura being released from their contracts. Ryuma Go completed his touring contract with New Japan at the end of January.
    • NJPW activated three new championships with the IWGP Heavyweight, IWGP Junior Heavyweight and IWGP Tag Team Championships now being defended with the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship remaining active as well.
    • Yoshiaki Fujiwara was the first IWGP Heavyweight champion for three weeks before Riki Choshu took the title in late-January. Choshu is the current champion.
    • Tatsumi Fujinami and Antonio Inoki are the current IWGP Tag Team champions, ending Animal Hamaguchi and Rusher Kimura's one-week reign with the titles in mid-January.
    • Dynamite Kid has held the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship since the start of the new year. Tiger Mask continues to hold the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship.

Interesting decision to start uniting titles.

On a sidenote, I've been playing around with title hierarchies, and the way I currently set it up for AJPW prior to unification is that the UN title is the most important one, followed by All-Asia and then International. With the idea being that Japan is No.1, Asians are okay I guess, so No.2 and then International is third because it's too foreign for the isolationist ways of King's Road. :p

My logic behind it is I feel that having two major singles heavyweight titles is a bit easier for me to book and plan for the future. Also, I'd like to make full use of the roster I've got now with the latest signings and not rely as much on touring wrestlers for the future; with three belts, I feel that I'd run out of fresh title challengers pretty quick. Just my feeling on the matter.

Just looking up AJPW results from the time period and just going off the in-game prestige stats, it appears the NWA International Heavyweight Championship was treated as the bigger championship - although the PWF World Heavyweight Championship would headline shows with both belts on the line as well. For NYGS I thought having Brody headline would put on the better match as with Baba I had some concerns with his stamina. Turns out I didn't really need to be concerned at all.

Have just caught up with this and am really enjoying it; you have an intriguing roster!

Thank you! Think it'll get even more interesting the further we advance into the game. Champion Carnival and Real World Tag League should be fun.

    • The card order for the tour's final night is announced. With all three of All Japan Pro Wrestling's main event-level singles championships scheduled to be defended at the show, a bit of confusion was spread about by the press as to what championship would headline the show. PWF officials put all speculation to rest as they announced Bruiser Brody's NWA International Heavyweight Championship defense against Dory Funk Jr. would headline with Harley Race's PWF World Heavyweight Championship defense against Giant Baba going on second-to-last. Jumbo Tsuruta's NWA United National Championship defense against Terry Funk will go on third-to-last.
    • PWF officials announce that the Excite Series Tour will be the next tour lined up for All Japan Pro Wrestling following a one month break. The annual Champion Carnival tournament will follow from late-March to April.
    • Bruiser Brody doesn't have much of substance. Mostly just yelling about finally putting an end to Dory Funk Jr. Dory Funk Jr. says that New Year Giant Series 1983 will be known as the end of this year-long plus feud with Bruiser Brody for the NWA International Heavyweight Championship. After trading the belt back and forth with Brody since August '81, Tokyo's Budokan Hall will be where this rivalry finally ends.
    • Harley Race says that he beat Baba before to take the PWF World Heavyweight Championship and he will do it again with ease. He points out Baba's starting to break down and he doesn't have what it takes to run with the wolves anymore. Giant Baba vehemently disagreed with Race's take of his condition. Baba says he has plenty of more years left in the tank and that he is still plenty capable of being world champion.
    • Genichiro Tenryu says he has something to prove against Umanosuke Ueda, showing that the honorable ways of fighting clean still are the right way to go in wrestling. Umanosuke Ueda merely smirks and feigns ignorance to Tenryu's protests and the press's queries.
    • Masanobu Fuchi announces that a request to PWF officials for a rematch against Stan Hansen was granted earlier in the week and that he seeks to avenge an earlier singles loss against Hansen. Fuchi is assertive that he has what it takes to defeat Hansen. Hansen wasn't available at the conference for response.
