Hara and Tsurumi were able to take the fight to the masked Mascaras and the painted Kabuki early on in the match, but Mascaras's agility allowed him to escape their more heavy-hitting attempts and reverse his side's fortunes. Eventually, both Mascaras and Kabuki were able to pull ahead as Kabuki soon put Tsurumi down with some poison mist for the win.

In the first of two matches between the individuals making up the month's battle for the AJPW All-Asia Tag Team Championships, Sato and Inoue kept each other in check throughout its duration. Inoue was able to capitalize on a late mistake by Sato and would lock in a modified cloverleaf to ultimately get the victory.

Down 1-0 to their challengers for their tag titles so far, Ishikawa was looking for redemption for his partner as he was relentless in trying to knock Hata down to the mat from bell to bell. Hata's resilience kept him in the match and refused to allow him to stay down for long. Hata's attempts at a neckbreaker on the champion proved to be unsuccessful each time he'd attempt the move as Ishikawa always found a way to evade. Hata was unlucky enough to not be able to escape Ishikawa's first attempt at a Scorpion Deathlock though.

Fuchi started off against Ueda as the bleach blonde-haired wrestler took the early advantage with multiple attempts to get Fuchi off of his feet. Fuchi's technical skills allowed himself to thwart Ueda's attempts and get a quick tag off to Tenryu. Seeing his opponent for the tour's final night enter the ring, Ueda was quick to get a tag off to the young Goto. Tenryu was able to knock Goto around with ease and was able to wear him out both on his feet and on the ground. Goto was able to drag the match more towards his corner, getting Tenryu in range to be taken down by a cheap shot from the apron by Ueda.

Goto was able to capitalize on his partner's distraction and really took the fight to Tenryu. Tenryu's experience, however, made sure he wouldn't stay down for long as he progressively began to fight his way back into the match. After a rebound backdrop, Tenryu got a quick tag off to Fuchi before charging across the ring and taking out Ueda from the apron. Fuchi continued to wear down on Goto inside the ring as Tenryu began to take his frustrations out on Ueda on the outside by throwing him about into various ringside obstacles. With Ueda unable to bail out his partner, Goto quickly found himself submitting to a Joint Torture Hold.

    Kodo Fuyuki vs. Stan Hansen

Hansen's latest streak of beating up on the younger full-time members of the AJPW roster hit an early road block as Fuyuki was able to withstand a good amount of the punishment the Texas was dealing out. Fuyuki took Hansen by surprise for a bit as he was able to even the match and even start taking the fight to Hansen. Fuyuki managed to whip Hansen into a corner and started wearing him down. Fuyuki's overeagerness in attacking Hansen in the corner perhaps led to a halt of momentum for him as he started to choke Hansen in the corner - much to the disapproval of the referee. After a call to break from the corner, Hansen nearly took Fuyuki's head off with a quick Western Lariat attempt out of the corner, but Fuyuki just managed to duck the attempt.

With the match back to a neutral state, Hansen started to wear down Fuyuki with a variety of strikes before taking the young wrestler down with a vicious knee lift to the abdomen. Hansen tried mixing up his arsenal a little bit, but nothing quite seemed to be able to finish off the young Fuyuki. Fuyuki had another resurgence of energy as he nearly worked his way all the way to getting a Fuyuki Special II landed on Hansen, but the big man just managed to power away and rob Fuyuki's momentum - and fortunes - with a quick Western Lariat for the win.

Giant Baba, Jumbo Tsuruta, Mitsuharu Misawa and Chavo Guerrero vs. Bruiser Brody, Harley Race, Terry Funk and Atsushi Onita

Tensions were quick to spill over in this match as an all-out brawl started off the bout with Baba going after Race, Tsuruta after Funk, Misawa after Brody and Guerrero after Onita. Eventually, Guerrero and Onita were to be declared as the two legal men for the match with neither man able to gain a competitive advantage over the other. Each time Onita tried utilizing a dirty trick, Guerrero was sure to evade and usually ended up inflicting even more punishment on his new rival. While the action continued in the ring, the fights on the outside soon began to fade as order seemed to restore and the six men not in as the legal man returned to the apron.

Funk was next to receive a tag as he began to wear down Guerrero. The nimble luchador was able to withstand a bit of the damage inflicted by the newly-crowned NWA International Tag Team champion, but was able to slip away and get a tag off to Tsuruta. Both Tsuruta and Funk put on a wrestling clinic in the center of the ring, with neither man able to gain an advantage over the other despite both quickly switching up their strategies to try and down their opponent. Despite wanting to try getting one over on Tsuruta, a frustrated Funk tagged out to Brody. Both NWA singles champions circled each other for awhile before locking up with Brody gaining the advantage with a side headlock. Tsuruta was able to power out from the hold and took Brody down with a running forearm that stunned the wildman. Tsuruta was ready to inflict more damage on the downed Brody, but was distracted by Misawa on the apron begging for a tag. Tsuruta ultimately relented and tagged in the youngest partner of his side.

Misawa wasn't going to wait for Brody to get up as he went straight to attacking the downed brute. Knowing how dangerous Brody's kicks can be, Misawa purposefully targeted his legs with various holds and locks, but Brody's brute strength allowed him to power his way to his feet and arm drag Misawa to the mat. Brody kicked away at the downed Misawa in response to his attack before tagging out to Race. The PWF World Heavyweight champion continued where Brody left off and made sure Misawa wasn't going to get a chance to recover. Misawa's young fighting spirit, however, led to him no-selling several of Race's punches before getting in the face of the veteran and fighting back with a flurry of forearms. Dazed, Race was quickly dropped with a running dropkick as Misawa then made the move to tag out to Baba.

Baba stepped into the ring and threw the PWF World Heavyweight champion around, taking him down with various strikes. Several kicks to the knee from Race though weakened Baba as Race started to take the fight back to his title challenger. Race's momentum came to a crashing halt as an overhead chop from Baba brought the PWF champion to a knee, but a quick double leg trip allowed him enough time to tag out to the fresh man - Onita. Onita seized his opportunity and continued work on Baba, wearing the veteran down for his side. Experience proved to be the tipping factor yet again as Baba soon broke out of Onita's attempts to keep him grounded and dazed Onita with a strong punch. Baba tagged out to Tsuruta, who then quickly worked to finish the match. After softening Onita up for a brief period of time, Tsuruta finally got behind his opponent and dropped him with a Backdrop Suplex for the win.

Despite having the strength of Tenryu on their side, Inoue and Hata chose to keep themselves in the match as much as they could to prove to Sato and Ishikawa they were worthy of their AJPW All-Asia Tag Team title shot. Goto proved to be quite the worthy adversary as well whenever he got his time in as the legal man and he'd prove to be a bit of a distraction for the two title challengers at times. Goto, unfortunately, would be the one to eat the pin for his team as Hata nearly put Sato away with a piledriver, however, a quick escape by the tag champ and a quick successive tag to Goto led to the youngster getting lit up by Hata and then driven into the mat with a piledriver.

You could tell Fuchi did his homework following his tag loss to Hansen the previous week as he was able to implement effective counter after effective counter against the lumbering Texan. When Hansen did get his hands on Fuchi, however, no amount of studying could prepare Fuchi for the punishment Hansen could inflict. Fuchi was able to keep his wits about him though and was able to duck several attempts at a Western Lariat, pulling down the top rope on one such attempt to let Hansen fall to the outside.

Hansen recovered for some time on the outside and Fuchi - perhaps wisely- chose not to pursue his opponent. Once Hansen returned to the ring, Fuchi laid into him with a barrage of stomps and elbow drops before trying to lock in a Joint Torture Hold. Hansen was able to power out of each of Fuchi's attempts and went back on the attack after a vicious backbreaker. From there, it was only a matter of time before Fuchi was softened up to be put down with a vicious lariat.

Misawa chose to start off his match and was fired up to face Brody - egging the NWA International Heavyweight champion on at times. Onita's pleas to start the match against Misawa went unheard as Brody shoved his tag partner out of the way and made his way to the center of the ring. At the ringing of the bell, Misawa came at Brody with a tremendous vigor - dropping the company's top champion to the ground at various points. Brody himself seemed taken aback by Misawa's early charge as he then soon unloaded on Misawa with a flurry of strikes before relinquishing control of the match to Onita following a running knee lift.

Onita tried during his time as the legal man to isolate Misawa from his corner, but, Misawa eventually slipped away from Onita's grasp and tagged out to Guerrero. The luchador sought to get even with Onita following the AJPW Dojo graduate's cheap victory over him last week, and that was clear to see as Guerrero pulled out all the stops to continuously down Onita. Onita was able to eventually take advantage of Guerrero's over-eagerness on his attack and delivered a drop toe hold into the turnbuckle to leave Guerrero dazed.

Brody was the recipient of the tag as he continued the attack on Guerrero. An attempt at a set up of a Running Big Boot was interrupted by Misawa, who was thrown to the outside by Brody - a move that left the NWA International Heavyweight champion set up for a surprise roll up that nearly resulted in an upset win by Guerrero. This set the champion off into a rage that included several clubbing overhead blows on Guerrero. As Onita kept Misawa at bay on the outside, there was nothing to stop Brody this time from delivering a Running Big Boot for the win.

After the brief ceremony prior to the ringing of the bell, both Dory and Terry rushed the champions and really put the boots to both men, downing both. Eventually, Dory and Tsuruta established themselves as the legal men with Dory trying to wear down Tsuruta in a corner with various holds and knife edge chops. The NWA United National champion refused to let himself stay down for long as he threw Dory into the corner himself and returned the favor. The match soon returned to the center of the ring with both men tagging in their respective opponents. Baba was still recovering somewhat from the opening assault as Terry went primarily on offense against the giant - specifically targeting his legs.

Baba delivered several strong clubbing forearms to daze Terry momentarily as he then delivered a standing clothesline. Dory distracted both Baba and the referee for a bit of time as Terry recovered quickly enough to deliver a quick chop block as he continued his attack on Baba's legs. Several excruciating moments passed as Baba was able to eventually fight Terry off and tagged out to Tsuruta. Both champion and challenger for the NWA United National Championship circled each other for a few moments before locking up with Tsuruta gaining the advantage by virtue of being the fresher man. After taking Terry to the ground on multiple occasions, Tsuruta signaled that he was ready to bring this match to an early close as he roared to the crowd, signaling that a Backdrop Suplex was near. Instead, Terry chose to roll out of the ring and stall Tsuruta's momentum.

Tsuruta followed to the outside as a back-and-forth fight of forearms and punches as Terry then pulled out a quick bodyslam onto the hard mat on the outside before rolling into the ring. Tsuruta was slow to get up as he rolled into the ring as the count reached 18. Terry quickly picked up where he left off as he threw more strikes at Tsuruta's head before tagging to his brother to continue the attack. Dory mixed up his arsenal with strikes, holds and slams until a miscalculated attempt at a snapmare takedown led to a hard back elbow from Tsuruta - allowing him to escape and get a tag out to Baba.

Baba dropped Dory with lefts and rights as he quickly delivered a strong knife edge chop before trying to work on a submission finish on the ground. Dory's technical abilities proved to be too much as the American was able to fight out of Baba's attempts and get back to his feet. The champion softened Dory up once more with another strong chop and attempted to whip Dory into the ropes, but Dory just managed to reverse as he then sent Baba right into the referee, knocking him out!

As Baba tried to attempt to revive Kyohei Wada, Dory put the boots to the back of his head as Terry was seen dropping off the apron to go looking for various objects around ringside. Tsuruta met Terry on the outside to stop him from introducing any new 'toys' into the match as Terry quickly threw him ribs-first into the ringside guard rail. Terry continued his search for something to his interest as Dory tried to choke the life out of Baba with a grounded sleeper hold. Terry called out to his brother that he found something he might like as he slid a chair into the ring. With Wada still down, Dory took time to collect himself as he brandished his weapon. Turning around, he went to swing at Baba but was met with a Big Boot from the giant that knocked the chair into his head!

Baba started to work on Dory's legs for a little bit and it proved to be quite effective as - once Dory powered out of a hold - he appeared to be favoring his ankle just a little bit. A quick tag out to Terry turned the match's momentum back to the challengers once again as the younger Funk brother started to continue his assault on Baba's legs. Several avoided chops by Baba led to further attacks by Terry until Baba finally elected to re-tag Tsuruta into the match. Tsuruta, still feeling the effects of his ribs hitting the steel guardrail on the outside, fell to the ground with each of Terry's hits to the abdomen. However, a running knee lift as a counter dropped Terry to the ground as Tsuruta started to fight his way back into the match.

Strike after strike, bodyslam after bodyslam, Tsuruta swung the momentum towards the champions' side as he called once more for a Backdrop Suplex. Terry was able to escape and shove Tsuruta into the ropes one more time where, with Wada's vision obscured, Dory Jr. held a steel chair out as Tsuruta's back crashed into the steel! Tsuruta stumbled away from the ropes and into Terry's grasp as the younger Funk brother delivered a piledriver that sealed both himself and his brother their fourth title reign with the NWA International Tag Team Championships.

WINNERS: The Funk Brothers by pinfall in 33:17

The Funk Brothers become the 32nd NWA International Tag Team Champions. (4th reign)

A tag out to Tsuruta evened the odds out as he began to take the fight to his challenger for the NWA United National Title. Fuyuki kept Funk within his grasp and the match in control for a few minutes before Funk managed to slip away, deliver a backbreaker and then tag out to Race. Race kept Fuyuki down with various elbows to the back of the head. The Korakuen Hall wasn't all too pleased with these two unknowns kicking off their new year of wrestling entertainment. A quick showcase between two young talents still within their rookie year, Sasazaki put Kawada away following an enzuigiri kick to give the night's opening contest a mercy killing.

Tsurumi's attempts to overpower All Japan's 'super rookie' were successful in the early stages of the match, but the young Misawa's athleticism soon broke him away from his older opponent and into a competitive advantage. A strong charging forearm from Misawa put Tsurumi down for the count just shy of 10 minutes of competition.

This match got off to a heavy-handed start with both teams laying into each other with heavy-handed strikes. Ueda and Hara clearly got under Kabuki's skin as the painted-faced warrior clearly stepped over the line in terms of the rules multiple times. From there, the strategy for Ueda and Hara boiled down to frustrating the other team. Kabuki and Okuma were quick to even the match and refused to let the two bruisers grab complete control of the match.

As the match crossed the 10-minute mark, Ueda's experience came into play as he took advantage of an opening of a rare mistake by fellow veteran Okuma and blasted him with a foreign object over the head out of the ref's sight for the win.

The 1,800 strong in attendance were, as usual, delighted with the quick pace the two luchadors from CMLL presented as Guerrero & Mascaras started off running circles around their two opponents. As time wore on in the match, the opposite corner started to show why they were the #1 contenders to the AJPW All-Asia Tag Team Championships. Hata in particular wore down his two opponents with Inoue providing more-than-adequate backup.

Once the match began to slow again, that's when the two native-born wrestlers completely took over. Once all momentum was on their side, it was only a matter of time before Hata put Mascaras away with a piledriver.

Strength proved to be better in numbers in the early goings of the match as those who already had pre-existing tag team partners, took full advantage of that. Baba, Tsuruta and Tenryu, however, were clearly the early targets as they were the complete focus of Brody, Hansen, Race and the Funk Brothers' attention. Resilient the three men were though as they were able to withstand their five opponents' attacks and remain within the ring. Elsewhere, Guerrero found himself a man with very few friends as he was on the receiving end of a group attack from newly-allied (for now, at least) Sato, Ishikawa, Onita and Fuchi. A heave-ho from Onita threw the CMLL superstar from the ring, making him the first elimination of the match.

    **Chavo Guerrero has been eliminated**

As Baba, Tsuruta and Tenryu all re-grouped, the Americans in the match started turning their attention towards the members of the match not as high on the card as them. As this happened, Kabuki, still frustrated with the result of his match earlier in the night, took his anger out on his then opponents Ueda and Hara. Okuma was quick to come to his teammate's aid as both men collectively were able to throw Hara from the ring, however, Ueda survived to fight on. The pack of Sato, Ishikawa, Onita and Fuchi waited to pounce on the recovering Kabuki and Okuma and were able to successfully throw the larger Okuma from the ring, with Onita getting credit for his second elimination of the match. As this was going on, Goto found himself a man without many (or any) allies and found himself thrown from the ring with ease by Brody as the match crawled past the 10-minute mark.

**Ashura Hara, Motoshi Okuma, Tarzan Goto have been eliminated**

Noted 'super rookies' Misawa and Fuyuki aren't together formally as a tag team, but there was a certain chemistry to the two working together within the context of the battle royal. Both took advantage of the AJPW All-Asia Tag Team champions being distracted somewhat with their attention directed towards Kabuki and dumped Ishikawa rather unceremoniously from the ring. Their celebration (if you could call it that) was short-lived, however, as Brody came rampaging along and viciously dumped the young Fuyuki from the ring. Brody's tag team partner, Hansen, came charging in for an elimination just after Fuyuki's as he dumped Fuchi over the rope with a rough Lariat.

**Kodo Fuyuki, Masanobu Fuchi, Takashi Ishikawa have been eliminated**

A big boot from Brody to Dory Jr. suddenly ended the partnershp the Funks and Brody & Hansen had as both teams started going at each other. Elsewhere, Kabuki and Ueda continued their duel as Kabuki nearly was able to get his night's opponent nearly over the top rope on several occasions, but wasn't quite able to complete the feat. Race became more of a presence just past the 15-minute mark as he quickly dumped Sato over the top rope. On the other side of the ring, Baba finally recorded his first elimination of the match with a big boot to Onita sending the youngster over the top rope.

**Akio Sato, Atsushi Onita have been eliminated**

Misawa, a victory already earlier in the night, decided to try taking it to Race to perhaps send a statement of sorts, but the PWF World Heavyweight Champion was able to shrug off his attempts. The distraction for Race nearly allowed him to get dumped over the top rope by Tsuruta, but Race was able to just hang on. Misawa, on the other hand, was ambushed from his blind side by Brody, who threw him over the top rope. Kabuki and Ueda's fight finally came to a close as Ueda bested Kabuki for the second time of the night by throwing him over the top rope. Tenryu broke off from his fight to try and catch Ueda by surprise, yet in a move that stunned the Korakuen crowd, Ueda reversed Tenryu's attempt and instead dumped Tenryu out! Ueda himself seemed surprised by his move and lost focus temporarily, only to have a charging Brody dump him out.

**Mitsuharu Misawa, The Great Kabuki, Umanosuke Ueda, Genichiro Tenryu have been eliminated**

Seven men remained, it was now go time as the match timer ticked past 30:00. A brief Wild West-esque standoff ensued with each man staring each other down. Brody was the first to charge as he targeted his NWA International Heavyweight title challenger and tried to quickly throw him over the top rope, but brother Terry was there to stop the attempt. Race was able to get Baba off of his feet and immediately turned his attention towards Tsuruta. Both men threw a barrage of strikes at each other with Tsuruta starting to get an advantage over the PWF World Heavyweight champion. In a surprise to Tsuruta, Terry Funk came charging over and clobbered the NWA United National champion over the top rope - eliminating his opponent for the final night of New Year Giant Series. Race continued his attacks on the downed Baba as Terry returned to even the odds against Brody and Hansen. Hansen, occupied with trying to throw Dory Jr. over the top rope, was caught off guard by Terry, who instead threw the Texas-born wrestler over the top rope. Brody turned his attention towards Terry and tried throwing him out alongside of his brother, but the numbers game played against him. A recovered Baba proved to be an unlikely ally though as a charging kick sent Brody's challenger for the NWA International Heavyweight title crashing to the mat outside.

**Jumbo Tsuruta, Stan Hansen, Dory Funk Jr. have been eliminated**

Only Baba, Brody, Race and the younger Funk brother remained. Baba realized the numbers were not in his favor as the three Americans slowly closed in on him. In a stunning move, Funk quickly grabbed Brody by the hair and the back of his trunks and sneakily threw the NWA International Heavyweight champion out of the ring! Brody was livid on the outside and tried to re-enter the ring to enact revenge on Funk, but was stopped short by officials. With three men now remaining, it became clear that there were no more allies. While Funk and Race tried to gang up on Baba, the two Americans also turned their attention towards each other and tried to eliminate the other. With Baba getting some time to recuperate, he took advantage of both men fighting alongside the ropes to dump out the PWF World champion - leaving both himself and Funk as the final two competitors.

All that remained were two #1 contenders in the ring with both knowing that a win would send a tremendous statement towards their respective singles opponents for the month. Both were able to see off the other's attempts at forcing an elimination and made sure to keep the match towards the center of the ring. It wasn't until Baba delivered several tough overhand chops onto Funk's head that Funk finally was in a dazed enough state to be thrown over the top rope. By eliminating both his opponent for the PWF World Heavyweight Championship and one of his challengers for the NWA International Tag Team Championships, it looks as if Baba's set to have himself a great January.

    WINNER: Giant Baba in 38:22

    RATING: 81

Thank you for the predictions, everybody! Kind of took me by surprise there at getting four given it's a dynasty dating back to near 40 years ago.

I know absolutely nothing about Japanese wrestling but All-Japan has always intrigued me. Mainly because here in America all any fans talk about is New Japan. I have always wondered what happened to All-Japan and why they do not have a market outside of Japan.

Anyway, I am looking forward to seeing what you do here and now for my piss poor attempts at making picks for a promotion I know very little about...try not to laugh.

Truthfully, I was on the fence for awhile if I was going to do either New Japan or All Japan. I was certain this dynasty was going to take place in 1983, but there was a lot of waffling in choosing which company to run.

Hey, it's a time period with not too much stuff out there, I believe. But, once it gets fully up and running it should be a bit easier for the predictions... maybe.

I will always follow an AJPW diary, as a matter of fact I made this account just so I could do predictions for the AJPW 2001 diary, my first post is in there.

I think what ultimately led to me making the choice to run as AJPW was reflecting back and re-reading that diary. Man, it was (and still is!) phenomenal.

I'm interested in this diary, 1983 is a great year in wrestling.

It sure was (says I, man born in 1992)! I feel the time period can lead to a lot of really interesting faces making appearances. We've already got a young Misawa and Kawada due to make their way up the ranks with Baba, Tsuruta and Tenryu already strong faces in the company... not to mention having Harley, the Funks, Hansen and Bruiser Brody. It's going to be a fun run.

Let me take you back... back to the age of giants... back to the age where legends were more than just fabled stories of old and were living, breathing, thriving entities. This was the age of war. As a slumbering titan in the west was about to stir from its slumber and wreak havoc, two titans of the east were already in the middle of slugging it against each other for ultimate supremacy of a country... and perhaps potentially the world. The Lion vs. The King.

Eleven years removed from the formation of both companies, New Japan Pro Wrestling and All Japan Pro Wrestling have continued their feud of philosophies into the new decade of the 80s. Antonio Inoki's NJPW's more shoot-style promotion at the start of our story has the edge business-wise with his recent shows packing in more people than Giant Baba's more western-influenced AJPW. While Inoki's roster is chock full of talent (and with quite the roster full of westerners), Baba's more homegrown roster may arguably be the more talented of the two.

With a solid foundation in place to make their charge up to New Japan's level and potentially surpass them, All Japan pushed forward into 1983 with some momentum on their side and with the prize of becoming the number one promotion in Japan certainly within their grasp.

This is the story of The King's Road to Glory.

  11. <p>Ended up splitting SWF into two different brands shortly after The Supreme Challenge 2017. Currently in October Wk2 2017</p><p> </p><p>

    <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Supreme Brand</span></strong></p><p>

<strong>North American:</strong> Paul Huntingdon (beat champion Ross Henry and Des Davis at Oct. PPV)</p><p>

    <strong>World Tag Team:</strong> The Awesomeness</p><p>

<strong>Vixxen:</strong> Alicia Strong (first champion for Women's Division, champ since August)</p><p> </p><p>

Going to debut a new main-event belt for the brand at Christmas Clash. Probably going to stick it on Eric Eisen. </p><p> </p><p>

    <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Elite Brand</span></strong></p><p>

<strong>World Heavyweight:</strong> Marat Khoklov (beat Jack Bruce at The Supreme Challenge 37)</p><p>

    <strong>Television:</strong> Casey Valentine</p><p>

<strong>Shooting Star:</strong> James Prudence (had him drop weight to fit in division, figured he'd make a decently over heel to go up against Jimmy Hernandez)</p>
